The incident happened on Sunday in front of ASU. Israel has begun its military operation into Rafah after rejecting Hamas’ cease-fire claim as a deception.

“The IDF is currently conducting targeted strikes against Hamas terror targets in eastern Rafah in southern Gaza,” the Israel Defense Forces said Monday night local time.

The world’s eyes are now on the southern city in the Gaza Strip, where more than 1 million Palestinians have taken refuge while fleeing war elsewhere in the territory.

President Biden has repeatedly warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to go ahead with the Rafah offensive unless the IDF could secure the safety of the civilians, with the president repeating himself during a call earlier Monday.

“The president was consistent again this morning that we don’t support ground operations in Rafah,” White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters prior to the advancement.

As the IDF entered Rafah, Hamas said it fired rockets at the Israeli city of Sderot, Nir Am and other areas near the Gazan border.

The IDF confirmed that the missiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system, with one home damaged by falling shrapnel from the attack.

The announcement came shortly after Israel’s war cabinet unanimously voted to proceed with the attack on Hamas’ final stronghold in an effort to apply military pressure on the terror group, “with the goal of making progress on freeing the hostages and the other war aims,” Netanyahu’s office said.

The prime minister also slammed Hamas’ latest truce officer as “far from Israel’s obligatory demands.”

Following Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh’s announcement that the terror group had accepted a cease-fire deal, Israeli officials told multiple outlets that the deal presented to the terror group was a “softened” version of what was really on the table and is not being taken seriously by Jerusalem.

One official told Reuters that the announcement was a clear ruse by the terror group to create backlash against Israel for refusing a deal, and officials told public broadcaster KAN TV that the announcement of a cease-fire agreement was a “Hamas deception.”

Despite criticizing Hamas’ move, Netanyahu’s office said Israel is still sending a negotiation team to Cairo “to exhaust the possibility of achieving an agreement on terms that are acceptable to Israel.”

Israel has repeatedly rejected any cease-fire deal that calls for an end to the war, with Netanyahu saying that the conflict will only end once Hamas has been eradicated and Gaza proves to no longer be a threat to the Jewish State.

Thousands of Palestinians are fleeing parts of Rafah after Israel issued warnings it was planning to start military action.

IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the more than 100,ooo Palestinians who were told to flee eastern Rafah on Monday were instructed to stay in humanitarian zones for the rest of the night, while others were told to run to Al-Mawasi or Khan Younis.

“There they will receive a full humanitarian response, where water, food, medical equipment and shelter will be provided,” Hagari said in a statement.

Netanyahu has agreed to keep the Kerem Shalom crossing open to allow humanitarian aid to go through after closing the passage over the weekend following Hamas’ attack.

The Boy Scouts of America is changing its name for the first time in its 114-year history and will become Scouting America. It's a significant shift as the organization emerges from bankruptcy following a flood of sexual abuse claims and seeks to focus on inclusion.

The organization steeped in tradition has made seismic changes after decades of turmoil, from finally allowing gay youth to welcoming girls throughout its ranks. With an eye on increasing flagging membership numbers, the Irving, Texas-based organization announced the name change Tuesday at its annual meeting in Florida.

"In the next 100 years we want any youth in America to feel very, very welcome to come into our programs," Roger Krone, who took over last fall as president and chief executive officer, said in an interview before the announcement.

The organization began allowing gay youth in 2013 and ended a blanket ban on gay adult leaders in 2015. In 2017, it made the historic announcement that girls would be accepted as Cub Scouts as of 2018 and into the flagship Boy Scout program – renamed Scouts BSA – in 2019.

There were nearly 1,000 young women in the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts in 2021, including Selby Chipman. The all-girls troop she was a founding member of in her hometown of Oak Ridge, North Carolina, has grown from five girls to nearly 50, and she thinks the name change will encourage even more girls to realize they can join.

"Girls were like: 'You can join Boy Scouts of America?'" said Chipman, now a 20-year-old college student and assistant scoutmaster of her troop.

Within days of the announcement that girls would be allowed, Bob Brady went to work. A father of two girls and a proud Eagle Scout himself, the New Jersey attorney eagerly formed an all-girls troop. At their first weekend gathering with other troops, the boys were happy to have the girls involved but some adult leaders seemed concerned, he recalled. Their worries seemed to melt away as soon as the girls led a traditional cheer around the campfire.

"You could see a change in the attitude of some of the doubters who weren't sure and they realized, wait, these kids are exactly the same, they just happen to have ponytails," said Brady. His daughters are among the 13 girls in his troop and 6,000 girls nationwide who have achieved the vaunted Eagle Scout rank.

The need to be underwhelmed rises in direct proportion to public anxiety. Discuss.

The Channel 4 doc, titled 'Spacey Unmasked,' will feature interviews with several men about their experiences with the actor.

Max and ID have acquired U.S. rights to a Channel 4 documentary about Kevin Spacey.

The two-part doc, titled Spacey Unmasked, is billed as a “forensic look” at Spacey’s career and the allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct against him. Spacey was acquitted in July 2023 of nine charges in a U.K. criminal case against him.

The documentary will also include interviews with “multiple men unconnected to that case about their experiences with Kevin Spacey, almost all of whom have never spoken before,” along with other previously unseen archival footage and interviews with the actor.

Spacey, a two-time Oscar winner, faced nine criminal charges from four different men in his U.K. trial, ranging from unwanted touching to, according to testimony from one man, performing oral sex on the man while he was asleep. The charges stemmed from alleged acts that occurred from 2001 to 2013; Spacey was artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre from 2004-15.

Spacey Unmasked is set to air on Channel 4 in the U.K. on May 6 and 7. Premiere dates for the U.S. and other territories haven’t been announced yet. All3Media International is handling international sales of the documentary and struck a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery for rights to the United States (where it will stream on Max and air on ID’s cable channel) and several other countries.

He recorded hours of her when they were in a "relationship" together. She found out later on that he was married with 2 daughters. He love bombed her and gaslit her into believing they were going to live together in California and get married and have children. He told her he loved her and was coming to be with her and 1 hour later she was served with stalking papers. The court saw his texts to her and said that the stalking complaints were not valid but by making the papers so public he put her at risk from her ex husband who she escaped from getting beaten by. This man needs to pay the price -- the same price he's been putting on other predators in Hollywood. Now that I know this, I know that this man knows no celebrities, is probably not a lawyer, isn't practicing law, is married with kids but victimizes other women. He got into a huge fight with his wife which somehow he left a voicemail of the other woman. His former cohost for true crime was apparently treated the same way.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul is facing backlash for saying that black children in the Bronx don't know the word "computer". "Right now, we have young black kids growing up in the Bronx who don't even know what the word 'computer' is," she said. "They don't know these things." The Democrat made the comments while speaking to a technology panel in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.

Ms Hochul later said that she misspoke and regrets it. She was at the Milken Institute Global Conference on Monday to discuss New York's artificial intelligence initiative. During a fireside chat, Ms Hochul spoke of a new AI consortium involving universities and state schools.

She said funds raised by the state would help build a supercomputer that will be accessible to researchers.

The governor then said that black children in the Bronx don't know what the word "computer" is.

Noem describes calling Cricket, then using an electronic collar to attempt to bring her under control. Nothing worked. Then, on the way home after the hunt, as Noem stopped to talk to a local family, Cricket escaped Noem’s truck and attacked the family’s chickens, “grabb[ing] one chicken at a time, crunching it to death with one bite, then dropping it to attack another”

When Noem finally grabbed Cricket, she says, the dog “whipped around to bite me”. Then, as the chickens’ owner wept, Noem repeatedly apologised, wrote the shocked family a check “for the price they asked, and helped them dispose of the carcasses littering the scene of the crime”.

Through it all, Noem says, Cricket was “the picture of pure joy”.

“I hated that dog,” Noem writes, adding that Cricket had proved herself “untrainable”, “dangerous to anyone she came in contact with” and “less than worthless … as a hunting dog”.

“At that moment,” Noem says, “I realised I had to put her down.”

Noem, who also represented her state in Congress for eight years, got her gun, then led Cricket to a gravel pit.

“It was not a pleasant job,” she writes, “but it had to be done. And after it was over, I realised another unpleasant job needed to be done.”

Incredibly, Noem’s tale of slaughter is not finished.

Her family, she writes, also owned a male goat that was “nasty and mean”, because it had not been castrated. Furthermore, the goat smelled “disgusting, musky, rancid” and “loved to chase” Noem’s children, knocking them down and ruining their clothes

Noem decided to kill the unnamed goat the same way she had just killed Cricket the dog. But though she “dragged him to a gravel pit”, the goat jumped as she shot and therefore survived the wound. Noem says she went back to her truck, retrieved another shell, then “hurried back to the gravel pit and put him down”.

At that point, Noem writes, she realised a construction crew had watched her kill both animals. The startled workers swiftly got back to work, she writes, only for a school bus to arrive and drop off Noem’s children.

“Kennedy looked around confused,” Noem writes of her daughter, who asked: “Hey, where’s Cricket?”

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – A San Francisco woman was convicted Friday of stealing more than $60,000 worth of merchandise from a Target store by pretending to pay for the items at self-checkout machines, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said.

Aziza Graves, 43, now faces up to three years in prison.

The district attorney’s office said Graves had been accused of stealing from a single Target location at the city’s Stonestown Galleria “dozens” of times between Oct 3, 2020, and Nov. 16, 2021. John Leguizamo says he still remembers how hard it was to work with Patrick Swayze.

The Palace of Versailles, famously opulent and vast, is often celebrated for its architectural grandeur and the lavish ceremonies that took place within its walls. But at its core, it was essentially a giant overcrowded hotel of horrors for the entire French nobility, who were given their own room and key that symbolised both privilege and entrapment. So how would Hotel Versailles fare in the ratings? Not very well at all. Think more “roach motel”. As midnight ticks around and the fireworks burst in the skies of my hometown, it’s time for the first reading thread of the New Year, where DataLounge friends share what they are reading, good or bad. Short stories etc are welcome.

As per the previous thread, I am still listening to Moby Dick, but not during chemotherapy, there are too many interruptions and I am enjoying the story far too much for stopping and starting. So it’s on my commute.

I wanted a big, easy to read saga to read over the holidays so I am rereading Gone With The Wind for the first time since childhood. Scarlett has less of Vivien Leigh’s devious intelligence, and Melanie isn’t a beatific and sickly sweet as per Olivia de Havilland but guileless, plucky and almost immature. Reading now, they are very much sheltered teenagers.

I read the CWA Gold Dagger winner every year so The Kingdoms of Savannah by George Dawes Green is on my list.

The Alan Parsons Project had some gems.

Apparently, this was shunted from Max to Netflix earlier this year. It's technically a spinoff of Doom Patrol, although the leads were recast. The comic it's based on is a Sandman spinoff, and Neil Gaiman has said one of the Endless (I assume Kirby Howell-Baptiste's Death, although he was vague) will show up.

Jayden Revri who plays Rowland (who was played by DL Icon Sebastian Croft on Doom Patrol) gives some baby gay vibes, and DL Icon Lukas Gage has a recurring role.

But that film was probably relatively inexpensive and the only special effect needed was Meg Ryan’s megawatt smile!

By Suzanne Blake Reporter, Consumer & Social Trends FOLLOW 75 Companies are struggling to operate as Gen Z enters the workforce at higher rates, and a growing majority of employers say the younger generation is toxic for their business.

That's the latest from a new Freedom Economy Index report conducted by PublicSquare and RedBalloon this month. In the survey, 68 percent of small business owners said Gen Zers were the "least reliable" of all their employees. And 71 percent said these younger workers were the most likely to have a workplace mental health issue.

One of the surveyed employers spoke of Gen Z's "absolute delusion, complete lack of common sense, and zero critical reasoning or basic analytical skills."

The criticism for Gen Z workers was in full force, as less than 4 percent said Gen Z was the generation that most aligns with their workplace culture, and 62 percent said Gen Z was the most likely to create division and toxicity in the workplace.

Another employer noted the generation's tendency for "expecting promotions for simply showing up every day."

The toxicity could even lead to company lawsuits, as 57 percent said Gen Z run the most risk of creating a workplace lawsuit.

Dan Space, an HR consultant who runs DanFromHR.com, said since the study reflects the feelings of small business owners, it could be skewed. These types of businesses often do not pay well or offer a high-quality company culture, he said, and Gen Z tends to look for those in any type of role or career they take on, he said.

I have a relative who is usually very stoic and easy going. Rarely shows emotion, happy or sad, but is neutral most of the time.

However, he once told me about a ghostly encounter he had in his early twenties. He was riding his bike along an isolated stretch of countryside. It was a bright, sunny day and there was nobody else around, and no cars. As he continued down the road, he noticed a person in front of a billboard, hunched over like they were doing something in the grass. When this person saw my relative approaching, he stopped whatever he was doing in the grass, hide behind the billboard for a moment, then came back out and stuck his thumb out like he was trying to catch a drive.

My relative found this weird because he was on a bike, not a car, so it's not like he could offer the guy a drive. As my relative rode closer, he noticed how strange-looking the man near the billboard was. He said his neck was way too long, his face was small and the lower face was smooth with no mouth or jaw. The eyes were huge, and he was wearing a cap or beret. No nose, just nostril holes. He was really tall and had very long arms. My relative said the moment he saw this guy, he was overwhelmed with a surge of primal fear, like he was looking at an uncanny valley creation.

He rode away as fast as he could, and looked over his shoulder to see the guy staring at him in the distance, now with his arms behind his back. My relative got genuinely teary-eyed telling me this story, and looked very uneasy. I'm usually a skeptic, but whatever he saw must have been real to him.

Years ago, Dallas and Boy Steele (Dallas's then and current boyfriend) were persuaded to move from Texas to California by Sugar Daddy. Also, living up to his name, Dale Savage cruelly savaged Dallas, who had complained about not being invited to appear at Hustlaball.

I'm still waiting for the musical version of these events, all of which are made completely public in Dallas's Facebook posts-cum-serial autobiography.

You might think that some of your shower habits are random. But new data from The Harris Poll reveals that some shower preferences and routines might be indicative of your age.

The older you are, the shorter your shower time likely is, according to findings from the 2,073 Americans surveyed from Feb. 27-29. Gen Z (defined as ages 18 to 27) spends the longest amount of time in the shower, at an average of 21.2 minutes, nearly twice as long as the 12.3 minutes spent on average by baby boomers (60 to 78). For 17% of boomers, their showers are five minutes or less.

Other generational differences exist when it comes to how often a person showers — with Gen X (44 to 59) being the mostly likely to take a daily shower at 69% — and what time of day someone is most likely to wash up, with the youngest pollers being the least likely to have showered by 9 a.m.

“Nearly all Americans shower, but the survey reveals differences about how that is done across segments of the population," Joanna Allenza, director of Harris On-Demand at the Harris Poll tells Yahoo Life of the data. “We were surprised to discover differences in the behaviors and preferences between men and women — like men being more likely to shower in the morning, while women are more likely to shower in the evening — as well as across the generations, such as preferred shower duration decreasing with age, just to name a few.”

Lately I've been reading some great horror books published by a smaller press called Valancourt Books, which has a lot of undiscovered clasics. My favorites so far have been The Elementals by Matthew McDowell, Burnt Offerings (which is perhaps better known because of the famous movie) by Robert Marasco, and some very creepy novellas and stories by Robert Westall (collected in Antique Dust, The Stones of Muncaster, and Spectral Shadows). I also have read some great and very unsettling short stories by the mid-century British writer Robert Aickman re-issued from Faber & Faber. Anything along these lines to recommend? I prefer unsettling, creepy stories to gory ones.

Years behind schedule and more than a billion dollars over budget, Boeing's Starliner capsule is finally poised for its first piloted launch Monday, a critical test flight carrying two veteran astronauts to the International Space Station and in so doing, demonstrate an alternative to SpaceX's already operational Crew Dragon.

While SpaceX has launched 50 astronauts, cosmonauts and civilians into orbit in 13 piloted Crew Dragon flights since May 2020, Boeing has been bedeviled by multiple technical problems that required extensive re-work -- and an additional unpiloted test flight -- to resolve.

But mission managers say all the known issues have been corrected, multiple other upgrades and improvements have been implemented and the spacecraft has been thoroughly tested to verify it is finally ready to safely carry astronauts to and from the space station.

No one is more eager for launch than the Starliner's crew, both active-duty NASA astronauts.

"I have full confidence in the management that makes the decisions that filter down to the operations team, full confidence on the NASA side and the Boeing side," said mission commander Barry "Butch" Wilmore. "There have been some issues in the past. That's the past. That is not now."

Co-pilot Sunita Williams agreed, adding "I feel like we've had a lot of lessons learned, and they've been incorporated. ... We wouldn't say we're ready if we weren't ready."

“The GOP will never rebuild until we move on from the Trump era, leaving conservative (but not angry) Republicans like me no choice but to pull the lever for Biden,” Duncan wrote. “The alternative is another term of Trump, a man who has disqualified himself through his conduct and his character. The headlines are ablaze with his hush-money trial over allegations of improper record-keeping for payments to conceal an affair with an adult-film star.”

Duncan criticized fellow members of his party, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, calling it “disappointing to watch an increasing number of Republicans fall in line behind former president Donald Trump.” “This mentality is dead wrong,” he added.

Social Security has now passed Medicare as the most pressing insolvency risk among the twin pillars of America's social safety net, according to new government reports. But both programs are still on pace to run dry next decade.

The 2024 Social Security and Medicare Trustees Reports, however, did offer a glimmer of good news for Social Security and a jolt of good news for Medicare.

Social Security's key reserve is projected to run low first, in just nine years' time. By 2033 — the same annual deadline as last year's estimate — the program may only be able to pay out 79% of benefits to seniors unless lawmakers act.

A short reprieve until 2035 might be possible if a second Social Security fund is factored in but that would require a change in the law. Last year's report saw that hypothetical combined fund running low slightly earlier, in 2034.

The news for Medicare, meanwhile, was strikingly positive. A stronger-than-expected economy and moderating healthcare costs could keep that program solvent until 2036.

That's a jump of five years from estimates of where the program stood last year. Just two years ago there was a fear of that program running low as early as 2028.

As Maya MacGuineas, the president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, summarized it: "We’re less than a decade away from a massive solvency crisis that would slash benefits for over 67 million seniors and severely limit their access to health care soon after."

Contrary to popular myth, Mama Cass Elliot did not die from choking on a ham sandwich, her daughter is keen for people to know.

On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the death of the songstress with the Mamas and the Papas, Elliot’s daughter Owen Elliot-Kugell has told the BBC, “There was a ham sandwich, but she didn’t eat it and she didn’t choke on it. So enough with the jokes.”

Mama Cass died aged 32 in the London flat of fellow singer Harry Nilsson in 1974, after she had finished a two-week run of performances at the London Palladium. The autopsy confirmed her case of death as a heart attack.

At the time, and in many cultural references since, it was reported that she had choked to death on a ham sandwich, which was found by her bedside.

Her daughter, who has written a book My Mama, Cass about the pair’s relationship, told the BBC that for her book she had pieced together the last hours of her mother’s life, including her final concert and several parties:

“By the time she got back to her flat, it was evening the following day. She was hungry, and her dancer made her a sandwich from the only thing that was in the flat, ham, and left it on her bedside table. She never even took a bite.”

Elliot-Kugell discovered that the myth came from the singer’s circle wanting to protect her from speculation about death from a drug overdose. She told the BBC the story had been concocted between Elliot’s manager Allan Carr and a journalist friend, explaining: “Carr really wanted to protect her. And there was a sandwich that was found there.”

Elliot-Kugell believes the myth played into the perception of her mother as an overweight songbird, something that caused Elliot distress, even though her daughter considers her a trailblazer:

“She paved the way for these other young ladies nowadays who are of a heavier stature to break through in the music business and be accepted for who they are. I really do believe that she helped lay the groundwork for a lot of people.”

Elliot moved from her native Baltimore to New York in the 1960s, where she joined the emerging folk scene. In California, she found fame as one of the leading voices with the Mamas and the Papas, singing on some of their biggest hits including California Dreamin’, Monday Monday and Dream a Little Dream. She made her solo debut in 1968 and continued to perform until her untimely death.

Jeff Daniels plays a business tycoon who gets taken down on the eve of his 60th birthday. Yes, you heard me. 60. Jeff Daniels is, in real life, 69, and in this series is lit to look 75. And he basically starts out at Foghorn Leghorn level and has nowhere to go from there.

Do not waste your time.

I watched it the first time in the theater and last night at home streaming. It is an amazing movie and I got so much more of the subtle details and foreboding references this time. The intimate, conversational scenes are so beautiful - the actors are terrific and I paid attention more to Andrew Scott and his unspoken expressions and conveyances - he deserved all awards. The movie has such a mood to it, it’s heavy and dark and sad but somehow quite beautiful as well. I was emotionally spent afterwards. Definitely one of my favorite films.

Two of the main organizers behind protests at Columbia University and on other campuses are Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow. Both are supported by the Tides Foundation, which is seeded by Democratic megadonor George Soros as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and it in turn supports numerous small nonprofits that work for social change. (Gates did not return a request for comment, and Soros declined to comment.)

Another notable Democratic donor whose philanthropy has helped fund the protest movement is David Rockefeller Jr., who sits on the board of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. In 2022, the fund gave $300,000 to the Tides Foundation; according to nonprofit tax forms, Tides has given nearly $500,000 over the past five years to Jewish Voice for Peace, which explicitly describes itself as anti-Zionist.

Several other groups involved in pro-Palestinian protests are backed by a foundation funded by Susan and Nick Pritzker, heir to the Hyatt Hotel empire — and supporters of Biden and numerous Democratic campaigns, including $6,600 to the Biden Victory Fund a few months ago and more than $300,000 during the 2020 campaign.

Not much info exists of Patrick online. He had a short career in acting before he left and went on to work in fields that would make him a millionaire. He was recently in Forbes. "Real Time" host Bill Maher took aim at President Biden's latest student loan handout proposal, insisting his own tax dollars, by extension, will be funding the "Jew hating" on college campuses.

Maher continued, "Colleges constantly raise tuition, then the kids take out more loans, then the government comes by and pays those loans. Okay, so my tax dollars are supporting this Jew hating? I don't think so."

Fox News contributor Kellyanne Conway said the student loan handout was unfair, telling Maher "You can't have plumbers and pipefitters playing for the student loans of doctors and lawyers."

"I'm all for the government trying to help people who need it, but he did that as a political play and everybody knows it. He's bleeding young people support." Conway added.

"And it hasn't worked," Bloomberg Businessweek correspondent Joshua Green chimed in. "If you look at issues that young people care about, Gaza is like 15th out of 16th. Kent Franklin McWhirter on September 26, 1942 in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in the San Gabriel Valley town of Baldwin Park, California. A child of hard-working parents, Kent learned responsibility at an early age. He was handling his first horse, Toby, at the age of eight. At ten he began working at his father’s Richfield gas station that was located near what is now the intersection of the 10 and 605 freeways. In 1954 Kent got a job at Brackett Field Airport in La Verne, California with the help of a family friend. Unable to be legally paid at twelve years old, he instead was given flying lessons in exchange for his work. For the next five years Kent worked weekends and summers at the airport.

Kent starred on the football team at Baldwin Park High School. After graduation, he attended Citrus Junior College and then accepted a football scholarship to the University of Utah in 1962. It was during this time that perhaps the two most important events in Kent’s young life occurred.

In February of 1961, a friend asked Kent if he would like to participate in a touch football game. This was no ordinary game, as Kent would be playing on a team captained by Ricky Nelson, and none other than Elvis Presley would lead the opposing squad. As a result of this game, Kent began a friendship with Ricky Nelson that quickly led to his first acting job on the immensely popular series The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. At first a background player, Kent soon became a regular on the show, and would appear on 44 episodes. Kent began to take acting much more seriously, and finally made the decision to pursue a career as an actor. During this time he worked on a mulitude of films and television shows doing bits, background and stunts.

The next big moment in Kent’s life took place on July 14, 1962. This was the day that he married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia Lee Doty.

While working on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Kent was asked to screen test at Universal Studios for a long term contract. While waiting for the studio to sign him, he continued working on other shows including several of Elvis Presley’s films, Viva Las Vegas, Girl Happy, Kissin’ Cousins, and Roustabout.

Finally, in November of 1965, Universal put Kent under contract and immediately sent him to work. He appeared in shows such as McHale’s Navy and The Virginian. Kent also tallied several appearances on Jack Webb’s Dragnet. It was his appearances on Dragnet that led Bob Cinader and Jack Webb, the producers, to cast Kent as one the stars in their brand new series: Adam-12. This would be his huge break and make him a star. With partner Martin Milner, Kent helped propel Adam-12 to the top of the ratings and into television history.

A worldwide phenomenon, Adam-12 aired from 1968-1975, a span of 174 episodes

Appearing on a top rated television show offered Kent many tremendous opportunities. Among his favorites was being a guest at the Indianapolis 500 and being trackside for the race itself. A lifelong racing fan, this was a special moment for Kent and led to his continued involvement in the sport. He has competed as a driver in automobile races such as the annual Toyota Pro Celebrity Challenge in Long Beach, California, and Watkins Glen, New York. He has also competed in several professional racing series in the Sports Car Club of America and IMSA, in such events as the 12 Hours of Sebring.

After Adam-12, Kent starred with Barry Van Dyke in the ABC series Galactica 1980, and in the 1989 NBC series UNSUB. He has recently appeared in recurring roles in the NBC series Seaquest DSV, and the USA Networks Renegade, Silk Stalkings, and Pacific Blue, as well asthe SCI-FI Channels Farscape and the hit CBS series Jag.

Gareth Monello Carmody was born on February 4, 1936 in Boston, Massachusetts. His father was of Irish descent and his mother was of Italian descent. After HS he began studying art at UCLA, but dissatisfied with the course, he went to earn a degree in Theatre Arts in 1958. While at UCLA he did not wanna take out student loans and end up in debt, so he began doing Physique modeling to be able to pay off college.

He is a renowned landscape and portrait painter, and was the youngest artist to win a major prize at the LA Art Exhibition. Before the age of 16 he was awarded full scholarships to the three most prestigious art schools in the USA. He also plays violin, guitar and piano at professional levels. He is particularly accomplished at playing the violin, having even played at the Hollywood Bowl.

Whilst at U.C.L.A. Gary appeared in some university stage productions, including 'Volpone' in which he played Leone. During the production, Gary met his wife to be, Marion McKnight, who was crowned 'Miss America' in 1957. They married in 1958. He also made a few low budget films while in college.

After graduating, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Army, and had an opportunity to try his hand at radio broadcasting when he was assigned a job as radio announcer. Whilst stationed at Fort Ord in California, Gary was invited to attend a screen test at Warner Brothers. Straight after he was discharged from the Army, Gary attended the screen test for a series 'The Alaskans'. He didn't get the part but was signed to a contract with Warners, under which he guested in popular shows such as '77 Sunset Strip' and 'Hawaiian Eye'. After he left WB he started to land more work, doing numerous guest spots on tv shows and some films. His big break would come in 1963 when he landed a lead role on the series “Burke’s Law”. The series ran from 1963 to 1965. After this he would do many more guest spots on tv shows until 1968, when he landed the lead role in “Land of the Giants”. He starred in that for two seasons. After this series he made a few more tv guest spots, tv movies (including one with Bette Davis) and films. In 1973 and age 37 he did an interview and photoshoot with Playgirl (where he was nude in a few photos but always covered up his junk). He wanted those images taken while he felt he was still in his prime so he could look back on.

He barely worked in the 80s, with very few credits during that decade. In the late 80s he developed one of the premier vineyards in California with his wife, in what was a 320 acre cattle ranch near Paso Robles. They owned it until 2019, when they sold it for many millions.

He is still married to his wife and they live a quiet life in California. He is 88 now. They had two children together.

One thing I love about the internet is how we can now find old footage or episodes or movies (or just clips) of things from years ago. I love how I can find the very first episode of this game show that ever aired. And this was the Pilot. This wasn’t even the official episode 1. By episode 1 you saw some changes made from the original Pilot, including the color of the set.

The pilot was pitched to all 3 major networks. CBS wasn’t willing to pay the amount wanted to buy the show. NBC already had too many game shows so they passed. ABC had been looking for a game show they felt could compete with the other two networks so they bought it immediately, and it was a huge hit. The rest is history.

I was uncertain if I wanted to speak about Glenn Bishop due to some circumstances, but he was a part of Beefcake history so I will.

Glenn Bishop was born and raised in Grand Haven, Michigan along the shores of Lake Michigan in the year 1937. He began working out and lifting weights at age 13 and was a star athlete in school.

Bob Mizer started the magazine Physique Pictorial which led a strange Chicago gym owner named Irv Johnson to start a rival physique magazine titled Tomorrow’s Man. Irv Johnson then set out on getting some new beautiful young men for his magazine, and discovered 15 year old Glenn Bishop, and immediately recruited him and offered him $$$ to be a physique model for him. Bishop obliged and would be featured in an early issue of Tomorrow’s Man in a speedo as the table of contents without his name posted. The next issue would add his name along with his photo and he was given a spread where he was nude but letters were carefully placed covering his “private parts”, as well as a photo of him covering himself with a towel etc. Bishop quickly became a favorite amongst gay men and Tomorrows Man took off.

At 16 he would soon have full nude photos taken and a “book” of just him was being sold through mail. The ads were in the physique magazine but you had to order the Glenn nude book specially. Irv Johnson did not try hiding his age, either, even writing about Glenn being 16 and in High School and would keep fans up to date with HS accomplishments Glenn had etc. Glenn in a speedo was the magazines table of contents for a while until June 1953, when at 16 the photo was changed to his naked rear end and Glenn would officially be introduced fully to readers, in an article titled “Want to meet Glenn Bishop?” Bishop would be featured in the magazine in one way or another from 1952 to 1954, mostly for Johnson to sell the nude books he created of Bishop. After 1954 Bishop would start modeling for tons of other physique magazines with every “physique photographer” of the time. Meanwhile, Bishop graduated from HS early (1953) and went to the University of Michigan (where he graduated in 1957). After college he went to chiropractor school, where he would graduate in 1960.

Glenn quickly became the most in demand model in the physique industry, with every photographer who took physique photos wanting to work with him. He became the highest paid physique model of the 1950s. Bishop took tons of photos for these magazines up until 1957. In 1958 Glenn “went solo” and had ads printed in Vim magazine where fans could send payment directly to him to buy his own catalogue, filled with photos of himself. At the same time, the physique magazines were still posting images of him taken as long as 5 years prior. His images were being recycled and reused over and over again in the different Beefcake magazines throughout the late 50s into the late 1960 despite him not having taken a new photo for them since 1957! When he graduated from chiropractor school in 1960 a magazine even published he was now a Doctor along with an old photo of him taken around 1955 (the photo posted below was taken around 1957 but published again in 1962).

Let’s just say he was young and beautiful and 100% exploited, however, he at least banked off of it himself as well and paid his way through college and chiropractor school.

His story is a fascinating one but messed up when you look at it now.

William Remington Moses was born on November 17, 1959 in Los Angeles, California. He is the son of Marian McCargo, an actress and tennis star, and Richard Cantrell Moses, an advertising executive. His parents divorced when he was just a toddler. His mother would go on to get remarried to Republican Congressman Alphonzo E. Bell Jr. in 1970. He would make 17 Perry Mason TV movies from 1989 to 1993 playing an attorney who worked with the title character. After the death of Raymond Burr he would continue to play his character in 4 more tv movies, in 1994 and 1995. In 1992 he would have a recurring role on Melrose Place for 11 episodes. In 1997 he starred in the series Fame L.A., which got canceled fast. He also continued doing guest roles throughout the 90s and 00s in numerous shows, like Touched by an Angel, JAG, LA Doctors, Ally McBeal, Crossing Jordan, Seventh Heaven, NCIS, Cold Case, Tru Calling, CSI: Miami, Bones, Ghost Whisperer, Without a Trace, Castle, Big Love and numerous others.

He had numerous other roles in some small films and tv movies, and from 2005-2008 he starred in nine of the Jane Doe series of TV films as Jack Davis. In November 2022 he joined the cast of General Hospital as Jeff Webber.

While starring on “Falcon Crest” he would also do numerous guest appearances on other shows, such as Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, Hotel, and Battle of the Network Stars, with the latter being where he met Tracy Nelson (daughter of Ricky Nelson and Kristin Harmon) and would begin dating. They married in 1987 and divorced in 1997. They had two daughters together. In 2000 he remarried.

Antony Hamilton Smith was born on May 4, 1952 in Liverpool, England and was orphaned at just two weeks old. He was quickly adopted by a highly decorated Australian Squadron commander who fought in World War II and his wife, an English nurse. When he was three years old his father retired and they moved to South Australia (where his adoptive father was from), where he would grow up.

At age 10 he began attending a high end independent school where he began studying dance and ballet and was a star athlete, playing Australian rules football, cricket, basketball and other sports.

At the age of 15, he won a scholarship at the Australian Ballet School. After leaving school, he began a career as a professional dancer with The Australian Ballet Company where he toured Europe and the Soviet Union for two years.

In 1973, at 21, he was on tour in Europe with the Australian ballet when he was discovered by a Russian photojournalist and photographer, who approached him. After this Antony decided to quit dancing and pursue modeling and use it as a way to travel the world and it gave him more freedom and independence than dance did. He quickly got signed to a modeling agency in London, where he would book jobs frequently and became a very busy model, modeling in Asia, Europe, America and Africa. He quickly became a favorite model of photographers Bruce Weber and Richard Avedon, and booked designer campaigns with Gianni Versace, and was a frequent model used in Vogue and GQ.

While modeling he began taking acting lessons, and in 1984 he booked his first acting gig, as the lead in a tv movie called “Samson and Delilah”, but his breakout would come months later when he was offered the lead role for the series “Cover Up”, as the replacement for his real life friend Jon-Erik Hexum after he died. Hamilton had bad feelings about taking the role but ended up accepting it. The producers were skeptical of casting Hamilton, as he was gay and they knew if that came out it would be the death of the show and his career, so they made sure to cover that up and let him know he can never come out. He understood this already when he decided to become an actor. The shows ratings kept declining after Jon-Erik died and it was canceled.

Antony was in talks to be the new James Bond but was ultimately dropped from the running by producers because he was gay, with the role going to Timothy Dalton instead. After this he did numerous small roles and guest spots on tv, before landing a lead role on the “Mission:Impossible” reboot in 1988. It lasted two seasons and was canceled.

On March 29, 1995 he died of AIDS related pneumonia in Los Angeles at the age of 42.

Shiv, I mean Shari, has been unable to save Waystar, I mean National Amusements. It will be probably be sold to Skydance, who will do… something with it. No one knows. In all likelihood, the TV business (CBS, one iconic and now useless MTV Networks) will be spun off to be sold for scrap. Paramount Plus will shut down. Paramount Pictures, which was burnt to the ground by Brad Grey, does not have significant IP to make it a lucrative acquisition. It could be whittled down to barebones (Netflix would like a nice lot) and simply exist as a dealer of content to other companies.

OR… Can anyone remember a time when six large companies dominated a single industry, and then something really BAD happened which made them lose a lot of money, and everybody panicked, so then the six companies all paired off and became three really large companies that are still around today?

Buzzy healthcare company Hims & Hers lost nearly $210 million in stock value in a single day after the company’s CEO said he and other executives were “eager” to hire anti-Israel student protesters who’ve faced disciplinary actions from their universities.

The online sexual health and pharmaceutical company plummet 8% on Friday from its opening price of $12.24 to $11.26 — just two days after Palestinian-American CEO Andrew Dudum said companies would be happy to have the protesters and encouraged them to apply to Hims and Hers.

The victim’s parents allegedly found texts between the pair, and the boy’s father then stormed into River Crest Elementary School with printouts of the conversations. The deranged text chain included messages from Bergmann allegedly discussing multiple encounters inside the classroom during lunch or after school.

She is also accused of telling the child how much she enjoyed him touching her and “making out,” the charging documents state. Inside her bag, police also found a folder with the victim’s name on it containing many handwritten notes talking about how much they kissed one another, the charges allege.

In one of the letters, Bergmann allegedly wrote, “One of my cousins is in the 5th grade and I can’t imagine a man talking to her how we talk. I know we have a special relationship and I do love you more than anyone in the world but I have to be the adult here and stop.”

Carla Gugino has been tapped to play Hollywood screen legend Vivien Leigh in the forthcoming biopic “The Florist.”

Corey Feldman still remembers Barbara Walters for dismissing his deepest secret.

The “Goonies” star visited “The View” to promote his memoir “Coreyography” in 2013, in which he candidly detailed the child sexual abuse he says he endured from numerous Hollywood insiders, only for Walters to tell him: “You’re damaging an entire industry.”

“It was like a knife in the heart,” Feldman told Entertainment Weekly in an interview Thursday. “It was shocking to me that somebody who I admired so much and I looked up to so much could be so deaf and just so completely wrong and off base.”

The former actor not only claimed in the 202 documentary “My Truth: The Rape of 2 Coreys” that Charlie Sheen raped his friend Corey Haim — a claim Sheen denies — but told The Guardian in 2020 “the biggest problem in Hollywood is pedophilia.”

He didn’t mince words about it on “The View” in 2013.

“I’m saying that there are people ... that did this to both me and Corey, that are still working, they’re still out there, and they’re some of the richest, most powerful people in this business,” he told Walters. “And they do not want me saying what I’m saying right now.”

When he doubled down on the claim, Walters accused him of “damaging” the industry.

PALM BEACH, Fla. — Top officials for former President Donald Trump’s campaign believe they can flip Democratic strongholds Minnesota and Virginia into his column in November, they told donors behind closed doors at a Republican National Committee retreat Saturday.

Brandishing internal surveys, pollster Tony Fabrizio and senior advisers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita delivered a set of presentations that focused on finances, messaging and the political map, according to two people who were present at the Four Seasons resort here. Fabrizio’s numbers, posted on a slide shared with NBC News, showed Trump ahead of President Joe Biden by small margins in the key swing states from 2020 — including Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona and Georgia.

The Trump camp’s discussion of expanding the electoral map deeper into the Democratic territory of Minnesota and Virginia comes as Biden’s re-election team says it is eyeing North Carolina — which Republicans have won in three consecutive presidential races — and Florida, where the GOP has prevailed in the last two presidential elections. Biden took the 2020 contest by a margin of 74 electoral votes, with victories in the pivotal states of Wisconsin, Arizona and Georgia coming from a cumulative advantage of about 44,000 votes.

Anyone else remember this bizarre NYC vampire love triangle story? It was so strange but in a good way, and definitely a movie that could only truly work in the 80s. It would never work in modern day.

It was set in NY but most of it was filmed in London. Tony Scott (brother of Ridley) wanted to film the entire film in NYC but the budget was not big enough to afford that, so he filmed the majority in London and only certain outside scenes in NY over the course of a week. They wouldn’t up his budget for numerous reasons, one being it was his very first feature directorial. Ridley Scott was originally hired to Direct but left when he learned David Bowie was involved, leading his brother to get the job.

The divide is clear when describing the state of family finances in 2024. Household balance sheets, in aggregate, are arguably in the best shape ever. At the same time, borrowers are getting squeezed as high interest rates make servicing new debt more challenging. This sets up a difficult balancing act for the Federal Reserve as it contemplates policy changes.

A blog post published last week by the St. Louis Fed provides some important context. The authors looked at the median household wealth of people based on the decade in which they were born and compared it with where history suggests they should be. For example, how are older millennials born in the 1980s doing compared with past generations when they were the same age.

In the early 20th century, iodine deficiency was ravaging much of the northern United States. The region was widely known as the “goiter belt,” for the goiters - heavily swollen thyroid glands - that bulged from many residents’ necks.

The issue was more than cosmetic: Iodine deficiency during pregnancy and lactation often led to children with severely diminished IQ and other permanent neurological impairments.

And Michigan was at the epicenter of the crisis.

The soil there didn’t have much iodine. Nor did the freshwater Great Lakes. And so the inhabitants didn’t have much iodine, either.

The prevalence of iodine deficiency in the state became strikingly apparent after the outbreak of World War I. Simon Levin, the medical examiner for the draft board in Michigan’s Houghton County, observed that more than 30 percent of registrants had a demonstrably enlarged thyroid, which could disqualify them from military service. In fact, it was the leading cause of medical disqualification in northern Michigan.

These developments came to the attention of David M. Cowie, the first professor of pediatrics at the University of Michigan. Having studied in Germany, he was familiar with the Swiss practice of adding iodine to table salt.

So the Michigan State Medical Society launched an initiative to educate locals on the need for iodine. Cowie, along with colleagues from the University of Michigan and state health department workers, began delivering iodine lectures across the state. Many thousands of receptive listeners came, at a time when the American public was beginning to show an interest in vitamins, minerals and other aspects of nutrition.

On March 15, 1924, the Michigan State Medical Society voted to recommend the use of salt containing .01 percent sodium iodide. This amount of iodine did not change the salt’s color and had virtually no effect on its taste.

The first commercially available iodized salt in the United States appeared in Michigan grocery stores on May 1, 1924. Other states took notice; the potential benefits were obvious. By the fall of 1924, iodized salt was being distributed across the nation.

Customers still had a choice to buy iodized or noniodized salt, but increasingly they were going for the iodine. Within a decade, iodized salt accounted for 90 to 95 percent of Michigan’s salt sales. And the results were undeniable: A 1935 survey found that incidence of enlarged thyroids had decreased in the state by as much as 90 percent.

Not long after Michigan’s success at kick-starting salt iodization in the United States, iodine-fortified salt became a daily part of the American diet. This slight but crucial modification eventually saw goiters become rare to the point of near extinction, erasing the “goiter belt” forever.
