‘The Fall Guy’ box office predictions

It’s the male ‘Barbie’ must see movie event of summer 2024 with box office king Ryan Gosling and America’s sweetheart, Emily Blunt.

Opening weekend: $65 million US box office: $700 million Worldwide: $1 billion

by Anonymousreply 70May 3, 2024 4:19 AM

[quote]America’s sweetheart, Emily Blunt.

Can you be "America's sweetheart" if you're not, you know, American?

by Anonymousreply 1April 20, 2024 1:34 AM

It looks incredibly formulaic, but the formula does sound like it will provide a hit: rom-com + action-adventure, with the heroine being intelligent and accomplished and the hero being laid-back and cool.

by Anonymousreply 2April 20, 2024 1:37 AM

Emily Blunt is the UK’s reigning cunt.

I think $1 billion is doubtful.

Prior to La La Land, Ryan Gosling had never carried a film to gross over $100 million domestically.

Given that the Fall Guy is more of an industry-inside pic, it will probably do similar to other “industry pics” with big stars

The first is of course La La Land

It did $151mm dom and $433 worldwide

The other is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

It did $142mm dom and $377 worldwide

Those are INCREDIBLY similar numbers

Therefore, it is highly likely the Fall Guy will make around $150 million in NA and around $400 million worldwide. This genre has a ceiling.

I’m aging fast and I need to show some skin.

by Anonymousreply 6April 20, 2024 1:50 AM

Unfortunately, Emily Blunt is very unlikeable and cold.

by Anonymousreply 7April 20, 2024 1:51 AM

What’s with the messy hairpiece?

by Anonymousreply 8April 20, 2024 1:52 AM

F-L-O-P

Gosling and Blunt have ZERO chemistry. Don’t believe the Barbenheimer hype. Neither one is an opening weekend box office star.

by Anonymousreply 9April 20, 2024 1:52 AM

R9 = Justin Timberlake, taking his Wegovy shot.

by Anonymousreply 10April 20, 2024 1:54 AM

Emily Blunt is a fantastic actress but she’s like Debra Kerr or Jill Clayburgh. There just isn’t that oomph that a real leading lady like Emma Stone or Margot Robbie has.

Emily Blunt consistently works and is cast in many high profile roles for one reason

SHE DOES NOT OVERPOWER THE LEADING MAN. SHE MAKES HIS ACTING BETTER.

by Anonymousreply 11April 20, 2024 1:56 AM

What the FUCK has Emily Blunt been a “fantastic actress” in??!?

by Anonymousreply 12April 20, 2024 1:59 AM

Carey Mulligan is another one frequently cast opposite big make stars.

by Anonymousreply 13April 20, 2024 2:00 AM

Emily is 41 … tick tock:

by Anonymousreply 14April 20, 2024 2:01 AM

R12 The Devil Wears Prada, A Quiet Place and Oppenheimer.

by Anonymousreply 15April 20, 2024 2:03 AM

R15, no to all! She sucks!

Amusing in ‘Prada’ in a minor role.

by Anonymousreply 16April 20, 2024 2:04 AM

She was not a memorable part of “Oppenheimer”. Sorry, no.

by Anonymousreply 17April 20, 2024 2:05 AM

I could see Emily telling Tom Cruise, “you’re the star I’m just here to make you look your best.”

by Anonymousreply 18April 20, 2024 2:07 AM

She’s on repeat mode, r18! What has she been a star in!?

She’s the girlfriend to “The Fall Guy”, despite looking like his mother.

by Anonymousreply 19April 20, 2024 2:10 AM

Despise cold fish Blunt but Ryan is my favorite so I will see this and am hoping it does well.

by Anonymousreply 20April 20, 2024 2:28 AM

Ryan Goaling.

by Anonymousreply 21April 20, 2024 2:29 AM

This film is trying to be “Bullet Train” and “ When Harry Met Sally”?!?!

Hard pass. Wait till it’s on Max.

by Anonymousreply 22April 20, 2024 2:34 AM

R1, yes it’s possible. And Emily Cunt ain’t it.

by Anonymousreply 23April 20, 2024 12:59 PM

It looks like it will be lucky to match ‘Bullet Train’ at the box office?

Blunt is not a marquee, butts in the seat box office draw and her chemistry with Gosling looks “off” in the trailer.

by Anonymousreply 24April 26, 2024 12:05 AM

I wish Hollywood would stop trying to push Blunt on us. It's great they love her. How nice for you guys! No one else does.

by Anonymousreply 25April 26, 2024 12:09 AM

At ages 40+, they both look rather old for this type of mindless popcorn movie. Hetero couples in their forties, if they happen to *still* be single and dating, don’t sing Taylor Swift songs to mend away their blues.

I’d recast with Glen Powell and Jodie Comer.

by Anonymousreply 26April 26, 2024 12:22 AM

Lmao I don’t know anyone who wants to watch this

by Anonymousreply 27April 26, 2024 12:25 AM

Is this based on the Lee Majors television series?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 28April 26, 2024 12:42 AM

It’s based on the TV series, but largely reinvented with the love story between Gosling and Blunt now more of a focus.

by Anonymousreply 29April 26, 2024 12:45 AM

But will they cover the original theme song?

by Anonymousreply 30April 26, 2024 1:15 AM

Apparently it’s not tracking well. It’s only expected to make $25 million this weekend.

Looks like a flop.

by Anonymousreply 31May 1, 2024 12:13 PM

[quote] I could see Emily telling Tom Cruise, “you’re the star I’m just here to make you look your best.”

It requires a Herculean level of effort, dear.

by Anonymousreply 32May 1, 2024 12:16 PM

[quote]It’s the male ‘Barbie’ must see movie event of summer 2024

No one is talking about it. Barbie was an event of the summer, but it had threads and threads on DL discussing it a year before it premiered. Even in a godforsaken place like DL with only a couple of dozen posters, you can easily gauge what will become big and what won't.

by Anonymousreply 33May 1, 2024 12:21 PM

I don't understand the reference. Other than Ryan Gosling appearing in both summertime releases, what does "Fall Guy" have to do "Barbie"?

by Anonymousreply 34May 1, 2024 12:25 PM

It doesn’t look like a movie anyone is rushing to see this bloated budget disaster in theaters.

It’s also gross how they’re using “we love Taylor Swift” references to jack up audiences for this.

by Anonymousreply 35May 1, 2024 12:29 PM

Oh he goes there! The gays are not into Emily Blunt and her fillers!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 36May 1, 2024 12:31 PM

They BOTH look like cartoon characters with their fillers. Hard pass on this movie and both of them.

by Anonymousreply 37May 1, 2024 12:33 PM

No one at work and none of my friends are talking about this movie

Unless it’s universally praised by the critics, I doubt that I’ll even watching it when it’s streams for free, despite liking Emily and Ryan. The entire premise is meh.

by Anonymousreply 38May 1, 2024 12:47 PM

I think it will have good WOM among men. But if it doesn’t open to $50 million then it goes to PVOD in 17 days.

by Anonymousreply 39May 1, 2024 12:52 PM

But they sing a Taylor Swift song to each other. Will that bring out the Swifties?

Ryan went to the LA premiere in his Beavis and Butthead SNL skit character. Desperate for attention.

by Anonymousreply 40May 1, 2024 12:56 PM

r40 Eugh. I realise there's always a huge marketing push behind every big movie, but there's a subtle way of doing it that doesn't annoy people. If we notice the try-hard marketing, you've already lost half the battle.

by Anonymousreply 41May 1, 2024 1:11 PM

R41, agree! It’s annoying and I’m surprised Gosling is game for this kind of cheap gimmick to be viral before this turd gets unleashed on us.

by Anonymousreply 42May 1, 2024 4:34 PM

Ryan is 43 but acts 13!

by Anonymousreply 43May 1, 2024 4:49 PM

R42 the studio and Ryan’s team must have looked at pre sale numbers and are terrified

by Anonymousreply 44May 1, 2024 4:52 PM

According to Screenrant:

Fall Guy cost $125 million to film.

It needs about $250 million (worldwide) to break even and about $310 million to be considered a win (really profitable) before it hits streaming.

It’s too bad they didn’t pair Ryan with a more appealing American actress.

by Anonymousreply 46May 1, 2024 5:09 PM

At they paired him a white actress r48, rather than sex bonbs Viola Davis or Michelle Rodriguez

by Anonymousreply 47May 1, 2024 5:23 PM

R44: Terrified because it will confirm that Barbie was just because of a massive and effective campaign and that he himself has no real drawing power.

by Anonymousreply 48May 1, 2024 5:33 PM

That’s pretty much all bland Emily has to offer us, r47.

by Anonymousreply 49May 1, 2024 5:34 PM

I agree about cold and bland Emily but I'm not a huge fan of Ryan anymore. Barbie clearly got to his head.

by Anonymousreply 50May 2, 2024 3:57 AM

Don't worry, Ryan. It is possible to survive a big-budge action movie disastrous flop.

by Anonymousreply 51May 2, 2024 11:53 AM

Emily Blunt is specifically chosen for roles so she doesn’t overpower the leading man.

The correct person to cast for this to make it more appealing would to men would be, for better or worse, Sydney Sweeney.

by Anonymousreply 52May 2, 2024 11:58 AM

Emily Blunt is this generation’s Sarah Miles.

by Anonymousreply 53May 2, 2024 12:01 PM

R53 - I think you meant Sylvia Miles...

by Anonymousreply 54May 2, 2024 12:16 PM

The failure of Fall Guy, if it does fail, will only confirm one thing

YOU CANNOT RESURRECT MORIBUND INTELLECTUALLY PROPERTY BECAUSE AN A-LISTER HAS FOND MEMORIES OF IT AS A CHILD

This is what killed Johnny Depp. The Lone Ranger and Dark Shadows got greenlit because he liked them as a child.

Barbie became a blockbuster because the people who played with Barbie are now in their 30s and 40s and have fond memories of it as a child.

The Fall Guy was also from the Eighties but the only people who remember it are in their 80s, too. I had never heard of it until this was greenlit and I’m a millennial who had followed show business since the late 90s. I used to read TV Guides at night when I had insomnia. I had NEVER heard of this show. It’s not even referenced in other shows from the 80s like The Golden Girls. It has no cultural currency.

So if it does fail, now looking increasingly likely, Gosling is allowed a big flop because he made so much money for Barbie.

But you know what this means don’t you? What did Johnny Depp do after those flops?

RYAN GOSLING TO STAR IN PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 6 AS JACK SPARROW’S SON, ZACK SPARROW

But what does this mean?

by Anonymousreply 55May 2, 2024 12:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 63May 3, 2024 1:12 AM

The box office predictions range from $30 to $50 million because no one can figure out the level of interest.

by Anonymousreply 64May 3, 2024 1:21 AM

R59, that’s a “subdued” opening international weekend per Variety. Especially for this big budget nonsense with two old people attempting to act and sound like Gen Z.

by Anonymousreply 65May 3, 2024 2:49 AM

Who cares how much money a movie makes? Isn't it more important that the movie is GOOD?

by Anonymousreply 66May 3, 2024 3:06 AM

I can kind of buy the argument that Gosling is a bigger star today due to ‘Barbie’. Everyone talked about his performance and he owned the Oscars this year with his performance. Clearly, many are amused by his hijinks on SNL as well. One could say he’s more bankable due to Barbenheimer even though he wasn’t the lead.

But Emily Blunt? She got a pure coattail Oscar nomination for being a female in ‘Oppenheimer’ in a less competitive category. The success of that film cannot be attributed to Kitty Oppenheimer! Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. are hotter after ‘Oppenheimer’. Emily is lucky to be in yet another wife/girlfriend role here. I’m dumbfounded by these (mainly hetero white male) critics who always claim she has any star quality onscreen or acting talent. She’s such a bore.

by Anonymousreply 67May 3, 2024 3:07 AM

[quote] No one at work and none of my friends are talking about this movie

There’s $30 they’ll never see.

Seriously, you sound like a fucking 15-year-old girl.

Why would anyone be so invested in hoping something fails that has nothing to do with you unless you’re seriously disordered?

Grow the fuck up.

by Anonymousreply 68May 3, 2024 3:11 AM

R66, it’s a business honey boo boo. When you spend $125 million dollars on a movie and pay handsome figures to Gosling and Blunt to bring butts to seats, profitability matters.

by Anonymousreply 69May 3, 2024 3:21 AM

Your outrage is delicious r68
