My theory is no one takes care of their elderly anymore in this country so they roam free instead of being wrangled by their saner younger relatives.

R21. You may be joking, but I think you’re right—too many people in some stage of senile dementia (which leads to disinhibition) without anyone to look after their and everyone else’s safety. I spend 22 hours a day with my husband who is in midstage Alzheimer’s. I’ve been lucky so far—he’s still happy and reasonably compliant with my guidance, but even with that I am exhausted. The alternative, an assisted facility, is both not (yet) necessary and incredibly expensive. I can manage. But I weren’t here, his family would put him in a facility—and even in the best ones, people either away.

R22 nah I’m not joking. It used to be you took care of your elders out of a sense of love or loyalty and an aversion to them humiliating the family by their public antics. No one cares anymore or their elders were too self absorbed to inspire love and loyalty in their younger relatives. Not sure what it is.
