“Oh my god, ‘Troy.’ Wow. I think I just blanked that movie out of my brain by the way,” Bloom said. “So many people love that movie, but for me playing that character was just like [slits throat]. Am I allowed to say all of these things? I didn’t want to do the movie. I didn’t want to play this character.”
“The movie was great. It was Brad [Pitt]. It was Eric [Bana] and Peter O’Toole,” Bloom said. “But how am I going to play this character? It was completely against everything I felt in my being. At one point it says Paris crawls along the floor having been beaten by somebody and holds his brother’s leg. I was like, ‘I’m not going to be able to do this.’ One of my agents at the time said, ‘But that’s the moment that will make it!’ And I completely fell for that line. I think that’s why I blanked that from my mind.”

Admittedly, I’m not sure where it would have been, but given that Israel isn’t that big, I’m sure something could have been worked out. And they wouldn’t have batshit crazy religious nuts firing rockets at them constantly. Hell, giving them the former East Prussia would have given more space than they have in Israel now.

Harry Melling, who is best known for playing Dudley Dursley in the Wizarding World, is set to become a '24/7 submissive' to Alexander Skarsgård in the upcoming movie Pillion.
Melling starts as Colin in the upcoming movie, who is described as 'a weedy wallflower letting life pass him by',
But his life is well and truly turned upside down when he meets Ray (Skarsgård), the handsome leader of a motorcycle gang, and leaves his suburban life to enter an unknown world of queer, kinky bikers.
On top of that, they are apparently 'taking all sorts of virginities along the way', too.
But as Colin becomes deeply involved in Ray's world of 'rules and mysteries', he begins to question 'whether the life of a 24/7 submissive is for him'. "Has he found his calling, or simply swapped one form of suffocation for another?" the press release says.

I’m not terribly surprised. He had done that stupid Purple Hearts movie and he started getting tons of followers, and he kept posting updates of how his followers were going up. He thinks very highly of himself. Here’s the thing, and wish someone had told him this before he did this:
(Channeling inner Shirley Maclaine)
He is not special enough to be a straight actor. He is not a Star. He does not have the talent or charisma to make this worthwhile. He shows up to the Met Gala wearing a black tux. He is self serious and interviews poorly. His body veers toward doughiess, his features are pronouncedly feminine.
He is the Diversity Hire. That was his ticket into Hollywood. He could not do this, after doing so many queer roles, which he was only getting because it was more or less assumed he would eventually come out publicly. He is not anybody you would cast in any straight role unless the actor needs to register nonthreatening softness. He could not play Jonathan Bailey’s role in Bridgerton.
Jonathan Bailey is going up and up and up. Not because he is a gay actor. But because he is a Star. Andrew Scott is going up because he is exceptionally talented. Nicholas Galitzine is neither of those. He started rising at a very curious time in Hollywood in which the burden on gay actors of gay actordom is beginning to go away, but at the same time actors are expected to be gay if they take a lot of gay roles. It would have behooved him to cling to this like driftwood, because now, when it comes down to it, if I am in casting and I have to choose between him and a straight actor for a straight role, I am going to choose the one that does not pout his lips like Queen Nefertiti.
After Gus Kenworthy came out, his ex cruelly taunted him (bad breakup) and wrote online:
“…you were not fooling anyone. Any man who knows the entire soundtrack to the Broadway musical “wicked” is not bringing in the ladies, unless it’s for a themed dinner party.”
Nicholas Galitzine was already typecast as “man who knows the song score to Wicked.” This was highly self-defeating, unnecessary, makes the people who cast him in queer roles look like idiots, and establishes him as a professional nincompoop. He will never get the straight roles that he really wants, and now the gay roles will be offered to someone else. He should have just said nothing.
God I hate actors.

Chris Cuomo’s stance on Ivermectin as a theraputic drug for COVID-19 has done a complete 180, as the news anchor who once said on CNN that anyone promoting it should be “shamed” now says he’s “taking a regular dose” to deal with his own struggles with long-term effects of an infection.
Cuomo shared in January that he’s suffering from “long COVID,” or the long-term lingering effects of a previous infection. This week on the PBD Podcast, a current-events show hosted by Patrick Bet-David, the NewsNation personality said he’s using the antiviral to help with an ongoing inflammatory response and “brain fog.”
“I’ll tell you something else that’s gonna get you a lot of hits,” Cuomo said. “I am taking … a regular dose of Ivermectin. Ivermectin was a boogeyman during COVID. That was wrong. We were given bad information about Ivermectin. The real question is, why?”
When COVID-19 was peaking in 2020 and 2021, Ivermectin emerged as a fringe remedy, and was instantly denounced as a “horse dewormer” – including a segment that mocked podcaster Joe Rogan for announcing that he had success taking the antiviral drug. Though it was first used in the 1970s as an antiparasitic primarily for animals, Ivermectin’s use in humans had become widespread in later decades, as a malaria prophylaxis and treatment in particular, and is considered very safe.
“Everyone’s going to say ‘Joe Rogan was right,'” Cuomo continued. “No, Joe Rogan was saying – yeah, he was right – that’s not what matters. What matters is, the entire medical community knew that Ivermectin couldn’t hurt you. They knew it … I know they knew it. How do I know? Because now I’m doing nothing but talking to these clinicians, who at the time were overwhelmed by COVID, and they weren’t saying anything!”

I was fired from a new job in less than a week after I started. It taught me not every opportunity is a good opportunity.
Calli Nguyen, 24, was fired from her job as a director of digital marketing after less than a week.
Nguyen highlights the importance of mental health and employee respect in the workplace.
She emphasizes Gen Z's unwillingness to settle for toxic work environments.
This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Calli Nguyen, a 24-year-old social media marketer from Baton Rouge, LA, about getting fired after less than one week of work. It's been edited for length and clarity.
Before I started as the director of digital marketing for a medical spa, I gave my boss the benefit of the doubt because I just wanted a job. What could go wrong?
Turns out, everything.
While I've worked many jobs, this director role was my first paid full-time position in digital marketing. I rationalized that maybe I was going through a learning curve; or that I just had the jitters. But on the third day of work, when I left my desk for a quick mental health break, I was fired on the spot. To be fair, I saw the red flags but ignored them.
I read the negative Glassdoor and Google reviews left by former clients and employees. One review said that five employees quit within two weeks. The review underscored that employers should not mistreat their employees regardless of their age. Also, before I even started the job, I agreed to change my role from client care coordinator to director of digital marketing without changing my hourly pay of $16. Yet, immediately after I was fired, I felt like a failure.
I now feel that getting fired after less than a week of employment was a blessing in disguise. The experience taught me that not every opportunity is a good opportunity. But more importantly, protecting my mental health and having employers see the value in me is more important than earning money.
My boss refused to take my advice
I didn't think it was a big deal that my former boss wanted me to switch gears to social media marketing after I applied on Indeed for an office coordinator role. Afterall, I did list my social media marketing skills on my résumé.
After I accepted the new role over the phone with her general manager, I looked forward to honing in on my creative skills while helping a small, independent business grow and gain more customers. But how can I help someone who refuses to listen to my advice?
My boss wanted her social media marketing to look a certain way: showcasing stock photos of attractive women with outdated fonts.
I showed her the analytics on the low-performing social media posts and that I knew how to update her online presence to gain more customers, but she refused to absorb anything I had to say. So I followed her creative lead — until I became overwhelmed by her demands.
I was shocked to find out that my boss wanted more from me than what I produced
On my third day, I started a project to build posts for the company's social media accounts and research her competitors' special offers. I presented everything she asked for. While she seemed happy with my social posts and the offers that I found, she needed more from me.
Without warning, she asked which products the other medical spas used. I spiraled into a tailspin.

I don’t see a thread on this. Just watched it last night and I feel as if the actor (and writer) is too old looking to suspend disbelief. He looks the same age as the stalker and the abuser. But I thought it was an interesting perspective on loneliness causing people to be complicit in their own suffering. What thinks the DL? Richard Gadd looks too scrawny and bug eyed haunted for my taste.

I remember her recording of "Some Enchanted Evening" and her success during the 1970s cabaret scene, but not much more. I know she had legions of avid fans, especially among gay men. So I decided to give a listen to see what I was missing.
My gosh, she's mostly terrible! Where did she learn to sing like that? Her sound is an odd combination of twee and fraught.

"To the Columbia Community:
Over the past six months, many have spoken in our name. Some are well-meaning alumni or non-affiliates who show up to wave the Israeli flag outside Columbia’s gates. Some are politicians looking to use our experiences to foment America’s culture war. Most notably, some are our Jewish peers who tokenize themselves by claiming to represent “real Jewish values,” and attempt to delegitimize our lived experiences of antisemitism. We are here, writing to you as Jewish students at Columbia University, who are connected to our community and deeply engaged with our culture and history. We would like to speak in our name.
Many of us sit next to you in class. We are your lab partners, your study buddies, your peers, and your friends. We partake in the same student government, clubs, Greek life, volunteer organizations, and sports teams as you.
Most of us did not choose to be political activists. We do not bang on drums and chant catchy slogans. We are average students, just trying to make it through finals much like the rest of you. Those who demonize us under the cloak of anti-Zionism forced us into our activism and forced us to publicly defend our Jewish identities.
We proudly believe in the Jewish People’s right to self-determination in our historic homeland as a fundamental tenet of our Jewish identity. Contrary to what many have tried to sell you – no, Judaism cannot be separated from Israel. Zionism is, simply put, the manifestation of that belief.
Our religious texts are replete with references to Israel, Zion, and Jerusalem. The land of Israel is filled with archaeological remnants of a Jewish presence spanning centuries. Yet, despite generations of living in exile and diaspora across the globe, the Jewish People never ceased dreaming of returning to our homeland — Judea, the very place from which we derive our name, “Jews.” Indeed just a couple of days ago, we all closed our Passover seders with the proclamation, “Next Year in Jerusalem!”
Many of us are not religiously observant, yet Zionism remains a pillar of our Jewish identities. We have been kicked out of Russia, Libya, Ethiopia, Yemen, Afghanistan, Poland, Egypt, Algeria, Germany, Iran, and the list goes on. We connect to Israel not only as our ancestral homeland but as the only place in the modern world where Jews can safely take ownership of their own destiny. Our experiences at Columbia in the last six months are a poignant reminder of just that.
We were raised on stories from our grandparents of concentration camps, gas chambers, and ethnic cleansing. The essence of Hitler’s antisemitism was the very fact that we were “not European” enough, that as Jews we were threats to the “superior” Aryan race. This ideology ultimately left six million of our own in ashes.
The evil irony of today’s antisemitism is a twisted reversal of our Holocaust legacy; protestors on campus have dehumanized us, imposing upon us the characterization of the “white colonizer.” We have been told that we are “the oppressors of all brown people” and that “the Holocaust wasn’t special.” Students at Columbia have chanted “we don’t want no Zionists here,” alongside “death to the Zionist State” and to “go back to Poland,” where our relatives lie in mass graves.

56 years ago on May 9, 1968, Marion Lorne MacDougal (no relation to Karen which we know of) kicked the bucket at the age of 84. Lorne died of a heart attack, and was found in her Manhattan apartment. She had played "Aunt Clara" on 27 episodes of the first four seasons of 'Bewitched', and production of the fifth season was about to begin a matter of weeks. The producers decided not to replace her, as they did Alice Pearce (Mrs Kravitz) when she died in 1966. Instead, they introduced a new character similar to Aunt Clara, named 'Esmarelda ' (Sam's 'yoo-hoo maid'), played by Alice Ghostley. Audiences didn't take a liking to her.

After “Ticket to Paradise” and “Shotgun Wedding” showed us the different ways in which calamity ensues when planning weddings abroad, Netflix releases “Mother of the Bride,” which combines the essential elements of both those recent romantic comedies into one passable package. The far-off setting emphasizes the lavish and luxe, though the narrative is cheaply woven and fairly threadbare. While “Mean Girls” director Mark Waters’ latest fails to add anything unique to the conversation, it does scrounge up a modest amount of heart when it comes to its saccharine sweet message of never giving up on happily ever after.
Mere seconds after her extravagant proposal, Emma (Miranda Cosgrove) begins fretting to her fiancé RJ (Sean Teale) about how to frame their engagement to her judgmental widowed mom Dr. Lana Winslow (Brooke Shields), who doesn’t even know her only child has a steady beau. Cue zany, plucky score. Mom’s been busy saving the world, locking down grants and researching genetic diseases in San Francisco, but plans to make up for lost time once Emma returns home from graduating university in London. Lana is in for a few surprises. Not only does her daughter have a future husband, she also has a new career as a professional social media influencer. And Emma’s first gig as a brand ambassador for a luxury resort in Thailand is her own destination wedding.

Amazon shipped me the wrong size sneakers twice. I complained the first time and they shipped "the correct" size within 2 days. And it's the wrong size again. Just spent 1 hour on live chat. They kept saying - "return the shoes and you can order the correct size".
I replied, multiple times, "I ordered the correct size to begin with. Amazon keeps shipping the incorrect size for my order."
Finally he asked for pics so took the the damn pics.
I asked multiple times - does the shoe even exist in the half size that I ordered, which is what you advertise?
No answer to that question ever.
Then they offered me 20% discount if I keep the shoe. I replied, "I want the shoe in the size. I ordered. Does it exist?" No answer.
Finally they refunded purchase price. I said I was confused - should I ship both pairs back? No, he said, keep both.
Why do I want 2 pairs of wrongly sized shoes?
And more interesting - do these products actually have much real value? Is the price almost all selling operations and profit?
Do you have a weird experience to share?
PS - I would buy them at Brick and Mortar but wide shoes are rare and hard to find in Europe, except in Germany.

He was dishononorably discharged after being court-martialed by the Marines for identity theft and larceny. So the military doesn’t like him. The Russians probably don’t like him either.
He should probably stop squealing to CNN.

Prince Harry was without his Royal family during his Invictus Games event in London this week -- but he wasn't a man without a country ... 'cause the British public showed up.
The Duke of Sussex attended his big shindig at St. Paul's Cathedral Thursday to help ring in the 10-year anniversary of his famous charity -- and while he didn't have his dad, brother, or any other working Royal in attendance to help him celebrate ... he still powered through.
Harry showed up with a smile on before and after the commemoration ... and he even did a public walkabout to shake hands and exchange pleasantries with Britons on the ground.
Indeed ... there were quite a few people who arrived to give Harry his flowers -- and he even received lots of happy cheers from the crowd, as well as messages of congratulations. When he went around to wave hello and talk to folks, he looked pretty damn happy himself.
While it might not seem like much on its face ... it's actually telling, especially since King Charles -- who said he wouldn't be able to meet with Harry during his time in London -- was hosting his own bash around the same time Thursday ... where he was shaking hands too.
Worth noting ... there weren't any senior Royals in attendance for Harry's thing, but they definitely showed up for Charles. People of note who did go to Harry's event, however ... his extended family on his mother's side -- who put on a united front as they hit the church.
Again ... Harry put out a statement saying he understood his father was swamped and unable to get together -- and as polite as he's being publicly ... ya gotta imagine this hurts a bit.

The woman who plunged to her death from the stands of the Ohio State University commencement ceremony over the weekend was identified as a graduate’s parent — and her death was likely a suicide, officials announced Tuesday.
The Franklin County Coroner’s Office said Larissa Brady, 53, of Georgia was pronounced dead after falling 136 feet from the Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Sunday.
She was identified by her fingerprints.
Police are still investigating the tragedy, but believe it was “not accidental.”
Foul play, however, is not suspected, university spokesperson Ben Johnson confirmed to The Post.
“Ohio State is grieving the death of Larissa Brady, a family member of one of our graduates. Our hearts go out to her family and friends during this exceptionally difficult time,” Johnson said.
Brady’s daughter was among those graduating, the Columbus Dispatch reported, citing the commencement program.

I found this clip from the end of the 1986 Emmy Awards. Betty had won the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy literally just minutes before, which by all accounts, pissed off Bea to no end. There is no evidence of hostility in this clip. Either Bea is acting for the cameras, or she's still in denial and the anger hadn't had time to settle yet.
Also, why does Bea get to sing the whole first part of the song by herself, and the other three just get a line or two? Poor Rue just gets a few words.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul is facing backlash for saying that black children in the Bronx don't know the word "computer". "Right now, we have young black kids growing up in the Bronx who don't even know what the word 'computer' is," she said. "They don't know these things." The Democrat made the comments while speaking to a technology panel in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.
Ms Hochul later said that she misspoke and regrets it. She was at the Milken Institute Global Conference on Monday to discuss New York's artificial intelligence initiative. During a fireside chat, Ms Hochul spoke of a new AI consortium involving universities and state schools.
She said funds raised by the state would help build a supercomputer that will be accessible to researchers.
The governor then said that black children in the Bronx don't know what the word "computer" is.

What a fun movie. One of Mary Woronov's best roles as the sadistic principal Miss Evelyn Togar (she experiments on mice playing Ramones records until they explode). PJ is terrific as Riff Randall, the Ramones' biggest fan. Vincent Van Patten at his teenage handsomest. Paul Bartel plays a stuffy queeny classical music teacher who gets into the Ramones after he smokes weed (portly Paul in a tight Ramones T-shirt doing the twist is hilarious). And the Ramones concert footage is great.
But Mary steals the show with lines like "Do your parents KNOW you're Ramones?"

The Biebers have a baby on the way.
Justin Bieber, 30, and his model-turned-beauty mogul wife, Hailey Bieber, 27, confirmed that they are expecting their first child together with a video and series of images shared on Instagram today. The first piece of content in a carousel shared to Hailey’s 51.2 million followers showed the couple embracing and kissing during a vow renewal ceremony today in Kilauea, Hawaii, at which they are both wearing Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello and matching Tiffany & Co. Forever bands.
The model and Rhode founder is wearing a white lace dress and head covering in the video clip, which was followed by a series of images showing off her baby bump. In one shot, the pop superstar cradles his wife’s stomach, and in another he is photographing her on a hill as she displays her pregnancy. In lieu of a caption, Hailey just tagged her husband’s IG handle.

In the text photo, Voigt shared, "In life, I strongly value the importance of making decisions that feel best for you and your mental health. Ben Affleck is “upset” with his wife, Jennifer Lopez, for influencing him to get injectable fillers after his appearance at Tom Brady’s live Netflix roast ignited plastic surgery rumors.
“Ben's comedy roast of Tom Brady seems to have backfired,” a source exclusively In Touch on Tuesday, May 7. “He was coming for the public’s negative social media comments towards Tom but ended up igniting a firestorm about his own appearance. He’s furious because he’s getting slammed for fillers and Botox that Jen pushed him to get.”
Ben, 51, took the stage to roast the retired NFL player during the live broadcast on Sunday, May 5. While his roast was received by fans with mixed reviews, viewers were quick to go online and speculate if the Batman actor had undergone plastic surgery after debuting a crease-free face.
“Ben’s upset with Jen because if it wasn't for her he would never get work done, but she’s convinced him that everybody in Hollywood does a little facial maintenance, including his good friends, like Matt Damon,” the source says.

MIAMI (AP) — Former President Donald Trump's youngest son, Barron Trump, has been chosen to serve as a Florida delegate to the Republican National Convention, the state party chairman said Wednesday.
Republican Party of Florida chairman Evan Power said the 18-year-old high school senior will serve as one of 41 at-large delegates from Florida to the national gathering, where the GOP is set to officially nominate his father as its presidential candidate for the November general election. NBC News first reported the choice of Barron Trump as a delegate.
Barron Trump has been largely kept out of the public eye, but he turned 18 on March and is graduating from high school next week.

Apple crushed by iPad advertising backlash
Daniel Thomas
An advert by Apple for its new iPad tablet showing musical instruments, artistic tools and games being crushed by a giant hydraulic press has been attacked for cultural insensitivity in an online backlash.
The one-minute video was launched by Apple chief executive Tim Cook to support its new range of iPads, the first time that the US tech giant has overhauled the range for two years as it seeks to reverse faltering sales.
The campaign — soundtracked by Sonny and Cher’s 1971 hit All I Ever Need Is You — is designed to show how much Apple has been able to squeeze into the thinner tablet. The ad was produced in-house by Apple’s creative team, according to trade press reports.
The campaign has been hit by a wave of outrage, with responses on social media reacting to Cook’s X post accusing Apple of crushing “beautiful creative tools” and the “symbols of human creativity and cultural achievements”.
Advertising industry executives argued the ad represented a misstep for the Silicon Valley giant, which under late co-founder Steve Jobs was lauded for its ability to capture consumer attention through past campaigns.
Christopher Slevin, creative director for marketing agency Inkling Culture, compared the iPad ad unfavourably to a famous Apple campaign directed by Ridley Scott called “1984” for the original Macintosh computer, which positioned Apple as liberating a dystopian, monochrome world.
“Apple’s new iPad spot is essentially them turning into the thing they said they were out to destroy in the 1984 ad,” said Slevin.
Actor Hugh Grant accused Apple of “the destruction of the human experience courtesy of Silicon Valley” on X.
However, Richard Exon, founder of marketing agency Joint, said: “A more important question is: does the ad do its job? It’s memorable, distinctive and I now know the new iPad has even more in it yet is thinner than ever.”
Consumer insights platform Zappi conducted consumer research on the ad that suggested that the idea of the hydraulic press crushing art was divisive.
It said that the ad underperformed benchmarks in typically sought-after emotions such as happiness and laughter and overperformed in traditionally negative emotions like shock and confusion, with older people more likely to have a negative response than younger consumers.
Nataly Kelly, chief marketing officer at Zappi, said: “Is the Apple iPad ad a work of genius or the sign of the dystopian times? It really depends on how old you are. The shock value is the power of this advert, which is controversial by design, so the fact that people are talking about it at all is a win.”

She was born into a very loud Italian Catholic family in New York. After Julliard she trained under John Houseman, who helped her get her big break on Broadway, where she was nominated for a Tony the next year.
Then, in 1979, she received international acclaim and a Tony as Eva Peron in Andrew Lloyd Weber's Evita. She had finally "made it." She became the premier American stage actress appearing in The Cradle Will Rock, Les Misérables, Anything Goes, and Company to name a few. She also had a stable film and television career, Witness, Driving Miss Daisy, Life Goes On, Law & Order, 30 Rock, and American Horror Story.
Outspoken and brutally honest, she has not been shy about telling rude audience members to leave the theatre. Let's discuss the great American stage actress Patti Lu Pone.

(Bloomberg) -- Sony Group Corp. plans to sell the historic Paramount Pictures lot in Los Angeles, featured in films such as Sunset Boulevard, if it succeeds in buying the studio’s parent company, according to people familiar with management’s thinking.
The consumer electronics giant already owns a large film and TV-production facility in nearby Culver City. Tokyo-based Sony is most interested in Paramount Global for its intellectual property, which includes movies like The Godfather and Top Gun: Maverick, said the people, who asked to not be identified because the discussions are private. It plans to keep Paramount Pictures as a label within Sony. Sony is partnering with Apollo Global Management Inc. on a proposed $26 billion purchase of Paramount Global, which also owns networks like CBS, MTV and Nickelodeon. The two submitted a nonbinding letter of interest last week and are negotiating access to Paramount’s books for a closer examination before making a definitive offer. The New York Times reported on Wednesday that Sony’s plans include selling Paramount’s TV stations and streaming service. Sony and Apollo declined to comment.
The pair are competing against a rival proposal from independent film and TV producer David Ellison. He’s offered to buy out the Redstone family, which owns a majority of Paramount’s voting stock, and merge his company, Skydance Media, into Paramount. A monthlong period of exclusive talks between Paramount board’s and Skydance expired last week. Ellison and his partners, which include investor RedBird Capital Partners, are mulling what to do next, according to a person familiar with their thinking. Their last offer included a $3 billion investment in Paramount to fund a cash payout to shareholders and bolster the balance sheet. They could also just walk away.
Real estate investors have chased Hollywood studio space in recent years amid a boom in film and TV production. The market has cooled considerably, however, as entertainment giants reduce spending amid ongoing losses in their streaming TV businesses. In 2021, Hackman Capital and Square Mile Capital Management acquired Kaufman Astoria Studios, the original New York home of Paramount Pictures, and the 55-acre CBS Studio Center in Los Angeles. The latter fetched $1.85 billion. At 65 acres, the Paramount space is bigger and also in a more central location. Paramount Pictures is the only major film studio headquartered in the Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Having its lot turned into just another production space would be a “disaster” for the community, said Brian Curran, president of Hollywood Heritage, which operates a museum in the original building used by some of Paramount’s founders.

Public housing is far, far more common.
Most of the classic TV dramas on PBS are from ITV, not the BBC.

I have a Farberware one that came out in 2020 but have been wanting to get a new one. This one doesn’t have any settings like preheat or anything. It’s basic (and cost $120 in 2020). The newer ones all have settings etc.
I don’t know which to get though. I saw a Toshiba that has amazing reviews and is beautiful looking. There was also a Phillips one that has good reviews. I was thinking about Ninja but meh.
There is the Drew Barrymore line at Walmart and they’re gorgeous but I feel they will break down fast. They’re cheap. But pretty. I love the new Paris Hilton one too.
I posted a pic of the Drew Barrymore Rose colored one. It’s sooooo nice. But $69 for a 6QT makes me think something is off. I remember the 3Qt was $20 for Black Friday.

The Virginia school district had previously renamed schools named after Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee. But after a monthslong campaign by a group of citizens, the school board voted to rescind the name changes and restore the Confederate names. The second name change is estimated to cost more than $300k for signage and uniforms, and the school district insists that private donations will foot that bill.
The right-wing group that led a pressure campaign to revisit the issue keeps using words like "heritage" and "majority," which in this case are transparent dog-whistles for "white people." This group is also suspiciously well-funded and organized for a "grassroots neighborhood organization." Who knew there was such a push to re-rename two schools after Johnny Reb?
Meanwhile, the district is reportedly suffering from a backlog of maintenance issues, supply shortages, and low teacher pay. No word yet on when the school board might vote to address those issues.

than any other actor. I could think of seven:
Cathy Lucas as Mavis Henscher in The Other Side of the Wind written a and directed by Orson Welles.
A spoof of Bogdanovich's then-girlfriend, actress Cybill Shepherd (who was present for at least some of the filming, and whose brother, Bill Shepherd, was part of the production crew filming in Arizona). A young actress, Henscher has difficulty balancing her acting career with the correspondence course her home state makes her take while working.
Cheryl Ladd as Pamela Verlaine in Permanent Midnight
"Sandra finds him a new job with a different series, No Such Luck, whose star Pamela Verlaine–herself a recovering addict–sternly but sympathetically insists that he kick his habit first. "
Sharon Stone as Blake Chandler in Irreconcilable Differences. (written and directed by Cybill's ex Peter Bogdanovich)-
When Albert sees a young woman named Blake Chandler working at a hot dog stand, he takes her home and casts her in his next film, which becomes a moderate success. When Lucy sees signs that Albert is interested in Blake for more than just acting, she divorces him, further troubling Casey. Albert ensures that Lucy gets custody of Casey, while he lives in a Hollywood mansion with Blake.
A turning point occurs when Lucy, angered both at Albert's procrastination in paying child support and at the sight of a sloppy, overweight woman in a supermarket buying the same comfort food as she is, hurries home and channels her anger into writing a tell-all novel. Meanwhile, Albert's producers are warning him not to attempt his musical remake of Gone with the Wind, which he is calling Atlanta, but Albert ignores their advice, and his budget for the picture skyrockets, mainly because of his own perfectionist attitude and Blake's mediocre singing voice, along with her diva-like behavior on set. Atlanta becomes an embarrassing box-office bomb, costing Albert any assignments in Hollywood and causing Blake to desert him.
Catherine O'Hara as Carol Ward on Six Feet Under. Carol was a neurotic actress that Lisa Kimmel (Lili Taylor) worked for. One of the writers had worked for Cybill Shephard as a nanny. Also creator Alan Ball has worked on her sitcom.
Annette Benning as Carolyn Bernham in American Beauty. Interview with Alan Ball- "...hating his job, you know, having to run Cybill. There's a lot of Cybill in Carolyn. There's a lot of me in Ricky, there's a lot of my dad in the Colonel, and there's a lot of my mom in the Colonel's wife...."
And of course, Cybill Shepherd as Cybill Sheridan on Cybill– Cybill is a middle aged actress who has had a varied, though mediocre career (which, even in her salad days, seems to have consisted primarily of television commercials, soap operas, and B-movies). She now finds that, due to her age, roles are becoming harder to find and that the quality of roles she is offered is diminishing. Her fortunes seem to vary over the course of the series. Sometimes, she has consistent work and appears to be relatively wealthy, other times, she scrambles to find and keep jobs, and seems to be struggling financially; this inconsistency the most successful actors tend to have their professional ups and downs, both financially and creatively.
What say you guys. She's really not that interesting of a person, but str8 dudes love having a piece like her on their arm.

The Channel 4 doc, titled 'Spacey Unmasked,' will feature interviews with several men about their experiences with the actor.
Max and ID have acquired U.S. rights to a Channel 4 documentary about Kevin Spacey.
The two-part doc, titled Spacey Unmasked, is billed as a “forensic look” at Spacey’s career and the allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct against him. Spacey was acquitted in July 2023 of nine charges in a U.K. criminal case against him.
The documentary will also include interviews with “multiple men unconnected to that case about their experiences with Kevin Spacey, almost all of whom have never spoken before,” along with other previously unseen archival footage and interviews with the actor.
Spacey, a two-time Oscar winner, faced nine criminal charges from four different men in his U.K. trial, ranging from unwanted touching to, according to testimony from one man, performing oral sex on the man while he was asleep. The charges stemmed from alleged acts that occurred from 2001 to 2013; Spacey was artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre from 2004-15.
Spacey Unmasked is set to air on Channel 4 in the U.K. on May 6 and 7. Premiere dates for the U.S. and other territories haven’t been announced yet. All3Media International is handling international sales of the documentary and struck a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery for rights to the United States (where it will stream on Max and air on ID’s cable channel) and several other countries.
Katherine Haywood directed and produced Spacey Unmasked. Dorothy Byrne and Mike Lerner are executive producers. Roast Beef Productions (Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer) produces in association with All3 Media International.

Danny Masterson’s wife, Bijou Phillips, has filed for divorce from the former “That ’70s Show” cast member just weeks after he was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women.
TMZ is reporting that Phillips filed divorce documents in a Los Angeles-area courtroom on Monday.
Her lawyer, Lauzon Paluch, told the website that Phillips “has decided to file for divorce from her husband during this unfortunate time” and said “her priority remains with her daughter.”

Meghan Markle’s podcast has been “pushed back” until next year, according to reports.
Reportedly, Richard Eden, the editor for Mail Online, said that Archetypes would be published next year 'at the earliest' in collaboration with Lemonada Media. Eden wrote for the Daily Mail, "A source [who is based in California] tells me there is not expected to be any work broadcast this year.
The relaunch of Meghan's Archetypes podcast got pushed back to 2025." Additionally, Eden said that Lemonada did not want Meghan's upcoming (cooking and gardening) Netflix series, which is currently shooting, to 'overshadow' the podcast's debut.

"Real Time" host Bill Maher took aim at President Biden's latest student loan handout proposal, insisting his own tax dollars, by extension, will be funding the "Jew hating" on college campuses.
During Friday night's panel discussion, while discussing the anti-Israel unrest occurring at top universities in recent weeks, Maher said he gets "so incensed" at how many of the students participating receive federal aid.
"When I read about the college loans… 'Biden administration's student debt cancelation will cost a combined $870 billion to $1.4 trillion. That's a lot of debt forgiveness," Maher said.
Maher continued, "Colleges constantly raise tuition, then the kids take out more loans, then the government comes by and pays those loans. Okay, so my tax dollars are supporting this Jew hating? I don't think so."
Fox News contributor Kellyanne Conway said the student loan handout was unfair, telling Maher "You can't have plumbers and pipefitters playing for the student loans of doctors and lawyers."
"I'm all for the government trying to help people who need it, but he did that as a political play and everybody knows it. He's bleeding young people support." Conway added.
"And it hasn't worked," Bloomberg Businessweek correspondent Joshua Green chimed in. "If you look at issues that young people care about, Gaza is like 15th out of 16th. And the only thing that comes in lower than Gaza is student loan forgiveness. So it hasn't worked as a motivator for the youth vote, you know, half of which are out there chanting ‘Genocide Joe.’ So it's backfired not just in terms of public policy, but in terms of the politics, too."
"Yeah, I mean, Trump is winning the youth vote by I think 11 points, that's pretty astounding to me," Maher said, referring to a recent CNN poll. "What do you make of that?"
"What I make of that a lot of it is if you turn on your TV today, you see young people protesting, angry, fighting with cops," Green said. "What you don't see is Donald Trump in a criminal trial.
"Biden was elected to push aside the chaos and the havoc of the Trump years. I think everybody can agree on that… You turn on your TV and see what's going on these campuses, it hasn't happened. And that's one big reason why he's losing the vote, one big reason why he's losing the youth vote."
"Yes, chaos and crisis in the Trump administration in a tweet, in a comment here and there, now it's chaos and crisis everywhere we look!" Conway exclaimed. "At the border, on our college campuses, by the way, in our halls of Congress, Congress, 31 Democrats voted against the resolution last October 18 to condemn Hezbollah and Hamas."
She continued, "And the resolution clearly said, Bill, that they were concerned about institutions of higher education allowing sympathies for Hezbollah and Hamas, which our own government, Biden's government, Trump's government have declared terrorist groups and they specifically said in there it was going to hurt, make uncomfortable, if not worse, Jewish students with all this antisemitism. That was October 18! 31 Democrats including the most well known young ones, the Squad that doesn't do squat, for example, all voted against that resolution."
"I couldn't agree more," Maher responded.

Before NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation in New York City next week, Bravo has announced that it’s renewing a slew of its shows: 15 in total. Among the renewals is its nightly talk show “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” putting to rest any speculation that the network is looking to cut ties with Cohen after his being named in a lawsuit against the company by former “Real Housewives of New York City” cast member Leah McSweeney. Brandi Glanville, formerly of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” had also made legal threats against Cohen.
Cohen, the face of the Bravo, and an executive producer of the “Real Housewives” franchise, will remain so. A spokesperson for Bravo told Variety: “The outside investigation into the recent allegations made by Brandi Glanville and Leah McSweeney against Andy Cohen has now been completed, and the claims were found to be unsubstantiated.”
Among Bravo’s other renewals is the hit freshman show “The Valley,” a spinoff of “Vanderpump Rules,” which premiered in March. And “Summer House,” currently airing Season 8 — revolving around the broken engagement of longtime castmates Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke, which the audience knows is coming — has also been renewed, especially since it’s “having its most-watched season in the show’s eight-year history,” according to the press release.
Also renewed — though many of these are foregone conclusions, since they’re either currently in production, are about to be, or recently completed filming — are: “Married to Medicine,” “Top Chef,” “Southern Charm,” “Southern Hospitality,” “Below Deck,” “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” “The Real Housewives of Miami,” “The Real Housewives of New York City,” “The Real Housewives of Potomac” and “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.”

A legally blind TikToker has shared that he and his guide dog were kicked out of a Seattle restaurant when a staff member didn’t believe he was blind.
“I walked in with my guide dog, Mr. Maple, and immediately somebody rushed up to me and said, ‘No pets allowed, only service dogs,'” said Paul, who chronicles his adventures with his partner on the popular TikTok account MatthewandPaul, which has more than 2.1 million followers.
In his TikTok, posted yesterday, Paul said he explained, “‘It's OK, he's a service dog.’ He looked at me, he looked at Maple, he said, ‘Emotional support dog?’ ‘No, like a guide dog for the blind.’”
“I literally had this harness attached to him,” Paul continued, referring to the words “Guide Dogs for the Blind” on Mr. Maple’s harness.
“I showed this to him, I said ‘I'm blind.’”
“He said, ‘You don't look blind,’ and I said, ‘A lot of people in the blind community still have some functional vision.’”
As Paul has previously explained in another TikTok, he has Retinitis pigmentosa, which the National Eye Institute says causes the “cells in the retina break down slowly over time, causing vision loss.”
He can see a small tunnel of vision, surrounded by “moving light, popping random colors, almost like fireworks.”
Paul shared that he tried to explain this at the restaurant.
“He said, ‘You're looking right at me.’ I said, ‘Yes, but it's like I have a pinhole of vision — that's all I can see.’
"He said, ‘Listen, this isn't my first rodeo’ — he literally said that — he said, ‘This isn't my first rodeo.’”
“What is going on out there that would lead this man to believe that I was lying?”
Paul continued, ‘’He said, ‘Do you see any other dogs in this restaurant?’ I said, ‘Honestly, no. I'm blind. There could be.’”
When Paul offered to come back with his dog’s paperwork, he says he was told, “If you step foot back in this restaurant with that dog I will call the police.”
“I'm speechless,” he concluded his video, which at press time had 5.1 million views.

Amid the weight loss treatment’s skyrocketing popularity, surgeons believe that Hollywood is experiencing a spike in the side effect known as “Ozempic Face.”
Several doctors claimed to the Daily Mail that celebs from John Goodman to Sharon Osborne are among those hit hardest by the alleged condition.
For the uninitiated, some side effects of taking Ozempic include sunken eyes, gaunt cheeks and saggy skin, often making the user appear older and more deflated.

Beauty, elegance, and not being Audrey Hepburn made her an international star.
Her screen career was short but legendary: High Noon, The Country Girl, Dial M for Murder, Rear Window, To Catch a Thief, The Swan, and High Society. Then, at the height of her career she became a literal princess when she married Rainer III, Prince of Monaco.
As Princess of Monaco, she focused on bringing ballet, opera, fashion, and horticulture to the People of Monaco. She was also the first female board member of 20th Century Fox, an author on both poetry and horticulture, and she sought to historically restore Newport, Rhode Island.
However, tragedy struck in 1982 when she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage while driving and drove off a mountain at the age of 52.

I woke up this morning and thought about how completely insane it is that we have two extremely old men running for President of the United States, and that really bothers me.
One will be 80 in two years, and the other is going to be 82 in November.
That's insane!!!
Why are Americans allowing this to happen?
In 1992 we elected 46 year old Bill Clinton. In 2000 we elected 54 year old George Bush. In 2008 we elected 47 year old Barack Obama to be President. Now we're electing geriatrics!
I'm very concerned about their age, and no my name isn't Susan Collins.
80 year olds should not be running for President, much less BE a President. Their mental faculties are severely declined, as is their judgment.
We are so screwed.

The Trudeau regime has introduced an Orwellian new law called the Online Harms Bill C-63, which will give police the power to retroactively search the Internet for ‘hate speech’ violations and arrest offenders, even if the offence occurred before the law existed.
This new bill is aimed at safeguarding the masses from so-called “hate speech.”
Revolver.news reports: The real shocker in this bill is the alarming retroactive aspect. Essentially, whatever you’ve said in the past can now be weaponized against you by today’s draconian standards. Historian Dr. Muriel Blaive has weighed in on this draconian law, labeling it outright “mad.” She points out how it literally spits in the face of all Western legal traditions, especially the one about only being punished if you infringed on a law that was valid at the time of committing a crime.

She released her debut record, "Night Time, My Time" in 2013, which was a revamp from some of the label-appointed singles she'd done as a teenager. It was a great pop record with a dark edge to it; solid production and a lot of '80s influence. She had promise. As far as music goes, it's pretty much been crickets since. She has famously claimed that Capitol sabotaged her second record and wouldn't let her out of her contract, resulting in a "Free Sky Ferreira" fan campaign that recalled the Fiona Apple "Extraordinary Machine" debacle of 2005. Capitol officially dropped her a few months back, and she's recently been touring again. Frankly, I saw some photos of her last year that screamed "methadone" (or even "meth") and I've sort of come to to conclusion that, label control aside, she is probably a drug addict and has been her own worst enemy through all of this.

Minka, 43, was seen wearing an oversized green jacket over a black top paired with jeans while Dan, 36, sported a white T-shirt with navy plaid pants as they arrived at the game.
During the game, Minka snapped some photos of she and Dan kissing.

They lost around $240 million on Argylle. They would have lost less money if they simply sat on the film and never released it.
Apple does not release movies theatrically themselves, they use one of the big studios, who foots the P&A and then recoups it from first dollar grosses and also takes a distribution fee. Almost no money made in theaters made it back to Apple. Even the PVOD rights were signed away to Universal, who also managed to only take the hook for half of the P&A costs. And even Universal lost money on it.

“ ELIZABETH TAYLOR: THE LOST TAPES offers an unprecedented exploration into the life of Elizabeth Taylor, Hollywood’s quintessential star. With extraordinary access to Taylor’s personal archives and seventy hours of newly-unearthed intimate audio, these candid conversations peel back the layers of one of cinema’s most enduring icons, revealing a woman at odds with her public image, yearning for respect and agency. Foregoing traditional talking heads, the film allows Elizabeth’s own voice to narrate her story and challenges audiences to reconsider Taylor’s legacy, presenting her not just as a film icon but as a trailblazer who leveraged her stardom for humanitarian efforts, effecting real change in the world.”
They got their hands on her personal archive and found tons of unseen videos, photos and interviews, and they are using her own voice to narrate her own story through clips etc.
It will be available to the public on HBO and MAX starting August 3!

I'm really loving it.
Jared the Bosun is hilarious and weird. He seems stoned most of the time.
Fraser is being an absolute cunt this season. What crawled up his tight ass? And why does he keep calling himself "Mother?"
At first I didn't like Cat, but after hearing her story, I feel bad for her. I'm almost forced to like her.
Barbie is a feisty Latina firecracker.
Not sure what's the trip with Xandi, but she's just odd.
Sunny is cute. She and Ben would make a nice couple, if Ben didn't keep throwing her under the bus.
Kyle is cute too. His Irish accent makes him better looking than he actually is, though.
Speaking of Kyle and Ben, I am LOVING the shots in their cabin, where they keep exposing their bare asses to each other (and us)! On the show, Ben comes across as a total womanizer, but I swear, something about him is very gay. I especially loved the scene where he was rubbing lotion all over Kyle's back - all the way down to his exposed ass!
And the French Chef. He's tres gay, even though he is trying to pretend that he's straight.
I loved his hilarious story about how he got married at 26. Then his uncle offered his wife a job on a yacht as a Stewardess, and she never contacted him again. So he said now it's just him and his cat. Rofl!! Honey, your wife knows you're gay!
This season is very entertaining.

Couple things that stick out to me
#1. Why?
#2. Is this a prelude to a new combined streaming-only company
#3. This could potentially be the solution for what would happen to WBD if WBD was going to divest itself of Warner Bros. studio, which Comcast wants. Comcast would only be able to buy some of WB due to antitrust issues. They only want WB for IP for the theme parks.
#4. So let’s say Disney spins off its streaming. The new company is then merged with the remains of WBD. Let’s call this, Cabyl Corp. Cabyl Corp has an app, Cabyl+, with an enormous amount of content. It includes HBO, Disney, CNN, and a couple of reality SILOs. At what price point do they sell this app? $30? $50? I churn constantly based on new shows. Am I going to pay $50 now if Cabyl+ has a hot new show? I’m just going to skip it altogether. Unless…
5. You cannot churn it. You have to pay for a yearly subscription upfront. $260 with ads or $320 ad-free. Cable has been reborn and the only way you can get Disney or HBO direct to consumer content is through an annual subscription.

The song has been out for over 20 years and is still a hit.
Mr Brightside has also surpassed Wham!'s festive staple Last Christmas to become the UK’s third best selling single ever despite hitting its peak at #10 on the UK charts 20 years ago.
It already holds the record for the UK's longest-running chart hit, after spending 408 weeks - or seven whole years - in the UK top 100. Its closest competitor, Lewis Capaldi's Someone You Loved, is far behind, with 234 weeks in the countdown at the time of writing.
Mr Brightside is streamed 1.8 million times a week on average in the UK. Last year proved its most successful on streaming services, with a cool 80 million plays. Not bad for a song that only reached number 10 in the UK on its second release in 2004 - and didn't chart at all the first time around.

Apologies if this has been posted. I searched for both Dahmer and Noem.
“Cricket was a wirehair pointer, about 14 months old,” the South Dakota governor writes in a new book, adding that the dog, a female, had an “aggressive personality” and needed to be trained to be used for hunting pheasant.
She includes her story about the ill-fated Cricket, she says, to illustrate her willingness, in politics as well as in South Dakota life, to do anything “difficult, messy and ugly” if it simply needs to be done.
By taking Cricket on a pheasant hunt with older dogs, Noem says, she hoped to calm the young dog down and begin to teach her how to behave. Unfortunately, Cricket ruined the hunt, going “out of her mind with excitement, chasing all those birds and having the time of her life”.
Noem describes calling Cricket, then using an electronic collar to attempt to bring her under control. Nothing worked. Then, on the way home after the hunt, as Noem stopped to talk to a local family, Cricket escaped Noem’s truck and attacked the family’s chickens, “grabb[ing] one chicken at a time, crunching it to death with one bite, then dropping it to attack another”
When Noem finally grabbed Cricket, she says, the dog “whipped around to bite me”. Then, as the chickens’ owner wept, Noem repeatedly apologised, wrote the shocked family a check “for the price they asked, and helped them dispose of the carcasses littering the scene of the crime”.
Through it all, Noem says, Cricket was “the picture of pure joy”.
“I hated that dog,” Noem writes, adding that Cricket had proved herself “untrainable”, “dangerous to anyone she came in contact with” and “less than worthless … as a hunting dog”.
“At that moment,” Noem says, “I realised I had to put her down.”
Noem, who also represented her state in Congress for eight years, got her gun, then led Cricket to a gravel pit.
“It was not a pleasant job,” she writes, “but it had to be done. And after it was over, I realised another unpleasant job needed to be done.”
Incredibly, Noem’s tale of slaughter is not finished.
Her family, she writes, also owned a male goat that was “nasty and mean”, because it had not been castrated. Furthermore, the goat smelled “disgusting, musky, rancid” and “loved to chase” Noem’s children, knocking them down and ruining their clothes
Noem decided to kill the unnamed goat the same way she had just killed Cricket the dog. But though she “dragged him to a gravel pit”, the goat jumped as she shot and therefore survived the wound. Noem says she went back to her truck, retrieved another shell, then “hurried back to the gravel pit and put him down”.
At that point, Noem writes, she realised a construction crew had watched her kill both animals. The startled workers swiftly got back to work, she writes, only for a school bus to arrive and drop off Noem’s children.
“Kennedy looked around confused,” Noem writes of her daughter, who asked: “Hey, where’s Cricket?”

Britney Spears is in "serious danger" on both the mental and financial front and is doing way worse than she was under the conservatorship ... sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ.
As for her mental health, our sources say Britney is "completely dysfunctional." Since the conservatorship ended, she has no supervision and, according to sources, has radical mood swings that we're told are "shocking."
We're told the few people who remain in Britney's life say she was doing much better when she was under a conservatorship. As one source said, "She had lots of freedom in the conservatorship and the restrictions were there to protect her. She's not protected anymore."
Our Britney sources are angry at what's happened since the conservatorship ended, saying she's gotten absolutely "no justice" ... and that involves her finances.
We're told Britney has been spending a fortune and is in real danger of going broke. Our sources say she's been going to French Polynesia, staying at The Brando, and spending close to a million dollars each trip between private jets, hotels, staff, etc. She goes every month or 2. We're told she also goes to Hawaii almost monthly by herself, taking a private jet, staying in the Presidential Suite at the Four Seasons, and dropping $350k a trip.
"She cannot afford this. She had $60 million when the conservatorship ended, and she's now where the conservatorship started -- in danger of going broke" ... one source said.
As we reported she's paid north of $4 million to her attorney, Mathew Rosengart.

Kate and Oliver Hudson's estranged father, Bill Hudson, is happy to be reconciling with his children. The 74-year-old ex-husband of Goldie Hawn opened up to Us Weekly about "healing" the "rift" in their family shortly after Kate revealed on CBS Sunday Morning that her paternal relationship was "warming up."
Bill, who was married to Hawn from 1976 to 1982, has been slammed over the years for abandoning the Almost Famous star, 45, and her brother, 47. (Bill is also dad to Emily, 42, and Zachary, 38, with his late ex-wife, Cindy Williams, and 18-year-old Lalania with ex Caroline Graham.) Now, Bill said he and his older kids are "letting things take their course," noting, "All families have rifts. It's nice that our rift is healing."
After "years of ups and downs," with Kate and Oliver, Bill said there is "no pressure" to repair their relationship quickly. "We're just letting it be what it will be. Because no one is pushing it, there's no turmoil or issues," he said, adding, "A lot went down, and we aren't revisiting it. No one wants to rehash the past. You can't move forward if all you're doing is analyzing the past. We're in the present."
Kate recently shared the latest update on her connection with her father on CBS Sunday Morning, saying that she doesn't "really have" a relationship with him currently but that it's "warming up." She added, "There's warming up with this all happening. But it'll be whatever it will be, you know? I have no expectation of that with my father. I just want him to be happy."
In January, Oliver and Kate revealed they've started mending fences with their half-siblings as well, with the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actress saying on their Sibling Revelry podcast, "I had this moment last year where I was like, 'I don't know why I don't talk to my other siblings.'" She added of reaching out to one of her sisters, "I got on the phone with [her], and we just started bawling our eyes out. It was great. She even said it. We start now. We start now."

[quote] “My husband fell in Britney Spears’ p—y,” she told the Daily Mail Monday, accusing her ex of cheating on her with the pop superstar. “He was married, and now he denies his children. He neglects his children for her.”
[quote] Nicole Mancilla described Soliz, with whom she shares five children, as “the EBT Nick Cannon,” referring to electronic food stamps and the “Wild ‘N Out” host’s consistently growing brood.
[quote] Mancilla, 36, said Soliz stays at Spears’ multimillion-dollar Thousand Oaks, Calif., mansion but lists a bungalow a few blocks away as his legal residence.
[quote] “He’s on probation, so if he officially lives at her house, they have access to searching her house,” she explained, “so that’s why he still has an address here.”

I've been trying to figure out what the title of this movie was for years. I've tried Reddit's Tip of My Tongue forum and they weren't much help either. I figured since it was probably a 90s chick flick, that someone on DL might actually know what it was.

Israel has begun its military operation into Rafah after rejecting Hamas’ cease-fire claim as a deception.
“The IDF is currently conducting targeted strikes against Hamas terror targets in eastern Rafah in southern Gaza,” the Israel Defense Forces said Monday night local time.
The world’s eyes are now on the southern city in the Gaza Strip, where more than 1 million Palestinians have taken refuge while fleeing war elsewhere in the territory.
President Biden has repeatedly warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to go ahead with the Rafah offensive unless the IDF could secure the safety of the civilians, with the president repeating himself during a call earlier Monday.
“The president was consistent again this morning that we don’t support ground operations in Rafah,” White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters prior to the advancement.
As the IDF entered Rafah, Hamas said it fired rockets at the Israeli city of Sderot, Nir Am and other areas near the Gazan border.
The IDF confirmed that the missiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system, with one home damaged by falling shrapnel from the attack.
The announcement came shortly after Israel’s war cabinet unanimously voted to proceed with the attack on Hamas’ final stronghold in an effort to apply military pressure on the terror group, “with the goal of making progress on freeing the hostages and the other war aims,” Netanyahu’s office said.
The prime minister also slammed Hamas’ latest truce officer as “far from Israel’s obligatory demands.”
Following Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh’s announcement that the terror group had accepted a cease-fire deal, Israeli officials told multiple outlets that the deal presented to the terror group was a “softened” version of what was really on the table and is not being taken seriously by Jerusalem.
One official told Reuters that the announcement was a clear ruse by the terror group to create backlash against Israel for refusing a deal, and officials told public broadcaster KAN TV that the announcement of a cease-fire agreement was a “Hamas deception.”
Despite criticizing Hamas’ move, Netanyahu’s office said Israel is still sending a negotiation team to Cairo “to exhaust the possibility of achieving an agreement on terms that are acceptable to Israel.”
Israel has repeatedly rejected any cease-fire deal that calls for an end to the war, with Netanyahu saying that the conflict will only end once Hamas has been eradicated and Gaza proves to no longer be a threat to the Jewish State.
Thousands of Palestinians are fleeing parts of Rafah after Israel issued warnings it was planning to start military action.
IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the more than 100,ooo Palestinians who were told to flee eastern Rafah on Monday were instructed to stay in humanitarian zones for the rest of the night, while others were told to run to Al-Mawasi or Khan Younis.
“There they will receive a full humanitarian response, where water, food, medical equipment and shelter will be provided,” Hagari said in a statement.
Netanyahu has agreed to keep the Kerem Shalom crossing open to allow humanitarian aid to go through after closing the passage over the weekend following Hamas’ attack.

Gadd has taken to Instagram to encourage internet sleuths to stop rogue investigations: "Please don’t speculate on who any of the real-life people could be. That’s not the point of our show."
Baby Reindeer opens with a disclosure typical amid today’s boom in crime content: “This is a true story.”
It’s a fitting declaration as the new Netflix limited series, which shot to No. 1 on the streamer’s TV rankings over the weekend to become the latest viral hit, is based on the life and experiences of its creator, writer, executive producer and star, Richard Gadd. The multihyphenate adapted it from his award-winning Edinburgh Festival Fringe one-man play.
Baby Reindeer casts Gadd as Donny Dunn, a struggling comedian who encounters a lonely woman one day while at his bartending gig. The chance meeting, during which he offers her a complimentary cup of tea when she turns up in tears, spirals over many months as it’s revealed that Martha, who is played by Jessica Gunning, is a dangerous serial stalker.
The characters develop a warped relationship that impacts those closest to Donny, including his co-workers, a trans girlfriend named Teri (played by Nava Mau), his parents, ex-girlfriend and her mother, among others. That just scratches the surface of what’s revealed over the course of seven episodes, and to reveal any more would spoil the experience for those who have yet to see it.
“It’s all emotionally 100 percent true if that makes sense,” Gadd recently told Variety. “It’s all borrowed from instances that happened to me and real people that I met. But of course, you can’t do the exact truth, for both legal and artistic reasons. I mean, there’s certain protections, you can’t just copy somebody else’s life and name and put it onto television. And obviously, we were very aware that some characters in it are vulnerable people, so you don’t want to make their lives more difficult. So you have to change things to protect yourself and protect other people.”
While Gadd was clear in a mission to protect the real-life people on which he based the Baby Reindeer characters, rabid fans have had other ideas. In recent days, internet sleuths, media outlets and TikTok creators have launched investigations attempting to discover the true identity of Martha and Teri, as well as a successful TV writer who becomes a mentor to Donny only to take advantage of him in dark and disturbing ways. Gadd has taken notice of the posts and the headlines. “People I love, have worked with, and admire (including Sean Foley) are unfairly getting caught up in speculation,” Gadd posted in an Instagram Story on Monday. “Please don’t speculate on who any of the real life people could be. That’s not the point of our show.”
The man Gadd mentioned in his post, Foley, a veteran writer, actor and director, has responded on X (formerly Twitter), by stating, “Police have been informed and are investigating all defamatory abusive and threatening posts against me.”

Shiv, I mean Shari, has been unable to save Waystar, I mean National Amusements. It will be probably be sold to Skydance, who will do… something with it. No one knows. In all likelihood, the TV business (CBS, one iconic and now useless MTV Networks) will be spun off to be sold for scrap. Paramount Plus will shut down. Paramount Pictures, which was burnt to the ground by Brad Grey, does not have significant IP to make it a lucrative acquisition. It could be whittled down to barebones (Netflix would like a nice lot) and simply exist as a dealer of content to other companies.
OR… Can anyone remember a time when six large companies dominated a single industry, and then something really BAD happened which made them lose a lot of money, and everybody panicked, so then the six companies all paired off and became three really large companies that are still around today?

Spotify did not release a specific figure when it announced at the time that “Midnights” had broken the record, but observers adding the numbers through publicly available Spotify data at the time estimated the figure to be in the 700,000s.

Hynes White's exit from the Netflix series comes after he was accused of sexual assault last year.
Percy Hynes White won't be returning to Nevermore Academy.
The actor who played Xavier Thorpe, a telekinetic student and one of Wednesday Addams's love interests, is among three original cast members who won't be part of the upcoming season 2 of Wednesday, which just began production in Ireland.
Jamie McShane (Sheriff Donovan Galpin, father of Tyler Galpin) and Naomi J. Ogawa (fellow student Yoko Tanaka) have also departed ahead of season 2. (Ogawa cited uncertain scheduling and a lack of progression in Yoko's journey as the reason for her exit.)
Hynes White's departure comes in the wake of sexual assault allegations made against him by a Twitter user last year, who alleged the actor assaulted her at a party and engaged in sexual activity with a minor. Hynes White denied the allegations and decried the "campaign of misinformation" against him.
"I can't accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted, or criminally negligent of people's safety," he wrote on social media. "These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims. It's very distressing to know that this misinformation has upset people."

I'll try to describe this. He has this sort of glowy mostly solid white backdrop. I can see the outline of his head and the outline of his mouth and ears. I can tell where his eyes are but they are sort of just black holes. I can tell he has a beard. Beyond this I can't make out any details. I thought it was a lighting problem at first but it wasn't like any lighting problem I have ever seen before. He couldn't fix it when I asked. I just let it go.

Jack Schlossberg, the only grandson of John F Kennedy, has released a series of videos in which he puts on a heavy Boston accent in the comic persona of a voter called Jimmy.
“A lot of people talking about Robert F Kennedy Jr,” he says from the front seat of his car.
“You know, I’m a fan of his father and you know, his uncle - rest in peace. I remember the day where I was the day he was killed. I mean, it was a tragic day. The entire country wept.”
“Jimmy” then goes on to criticise the campaign.
“But listen, that guy, he’s a p----, the new guy, the young guy, he’s a freaking p----,” he says.
“He’s lying to you, alright? ‘Independent’, ‘third party’, yeah freakin’ right. He’s got Trump’s donors. He’s got Trump’s advisers, him and Trump go away freaking back. Don’t be fooled by that. Don’t throw away your vote.”
The 31-year-old lawyer continues: “Vote for Biden. It’ll feel good. It’s gonna be fun! We’re gonna keep growing. This economy is gonna keep freakin’ booming. We’re gonna boom, everybody’s gonna get freaking loaded.”

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – A San Francisco woman was convicted Friday of stealing more than $60,000 worth of merchandise from a Target store by pretending to pay for the items at self-checkout machines, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said.
Aziza Graves, 43, now faces up to three years in prison.
The district attorney’s office said Graves had been accused of stealing from a single Target location at the city’s Stonestown Galleria “dozens” of times between Oct 3, 2020, and Nov. 16, 2021. Her scam allegedly involved bringing items to the self-checkout, scanning them, and then inserting “a single coin or bill” into the machine before leaving, the DA’s office said.
The total value of the stolen goods amounted to over $60,000, authorities said.
Officers with the San Francisco Police Department said they watched Graves leave Target twice after carrying out her scheme. She was later seen selling the stolen goods at the city’s UN Plaza.

[quote] “Christian nationalism” is not the liberal version of the slur “woke.” It’s more like the term “fascist.” Not only does it describe something very real, but something that remains a very present threat, one that is overrunning Oklahoma politics, and potentially the rest of the country.
[quote] ...We define it as an ideology that idealizes and advocates a fusion of American civic life with a particular kind of “Christianity.” I use “Christianity” in quotes there because the Christianity involved isn’t theological; it’s ethno-cultural. It’s “Christianity” as code, shorthand for “people like us,” and that usually means “Anglo European ethnicity, born in the USA, politically conservative.” Christian nationalism is an ideology that envisions that group as America’s founders and rightful leaders. It seeks to institutionalize their privilege politically.

The Boy Scouts of America is changing its name for the first time in its 114-year history and will become Scouting America. It's a significant shift as the organization emerges from bankruptcy following a flood of sexual abuse claims and seeks to focus on inclusion.
The organization steeped in tradition has made seismic changes after decades of turmoil, from finally allowing gay youth to welcoming girls throughout its ranks. With an eye on increasing flagging membership numbers, the Irving, Texas-based organization announced the name change Tuesday at its annual meeting in Florida.
"In the next 100 years we want any youth in America to feel very, very welcome to come into our programs," Roger Krone, who took over last fall as president and chief executive officer, said in an interview before the announcement.
The organization began allowing gay youth in 2013 and ended a blanket ban on gay adult leaders in 2015. In 2017, it made the historic announcement that girls would be accepted as Cub Scouts as of 2018 and into the flagship Boy Scout program – renamed Scouts BSA – in 2019.
There were nearly 1,000 young women in the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts in 2021, including Selby Chipman. The all-girls troop she was a founding member of in her hometown of Oak Ridge, North Carolina, has grown from five girls to nearly 50, and she thinks the name change will encourage even more girls to realize they can join.
"Girls were like: 'You can join Boy Scouts of America?'" said Chipman, now a 20-year-old college student and assistant scoutmaster of her troop.
Within days of the announcement that girls would be allowed, Bob Brady went to work. A father of two girls and a proud Eagle Scout himself, the New Jersey attorney eagerly formed an all-girls troop. At their first weekend gathering with other troops, the boys were happy to have the girls involved but some adult leaders seemed concerned, he recalled. Their worries seemed to melt away as soon as the girls led a traditional cheer around the campfire.
"You could see a change in the attitude of some of the doubters who weren't sure and they realized, wait, these kids are exactly the same, they just happen to have ponytails," said Brady. His daughters are among the 13 girls in his troop and 6,000 girls nationwide who have achieved the vaunted Eagle Scout rank.

I'm starting a thread for all my brethren who were cut from the herd by Henry Geldzahler. If this is not you, please move on and let us reminisce in peace.
If this is you, please share your stories.
I usually take a pilgrimage to Assouline to have my photo taken beneath this one of Henry Geldzahler and Andy Warhol, two guys who meant so much to my early life in NYC. They opened lots of doors for me into the inner rarefied rooms of the city until they nudged me from the nest to make room for other youngsters they cut from the herd to add to their folds. Henry would have cringed at that mixed metaphor; Andy might have noticed but would not have allowed himself to cringe and mar the mask of himself. They knew when I was ready to make my own way once I'd learned more fully and cleverly the charms of palaver and poise and a kind of performative southernness, some would even say it was - it is - a perversion of southernness because of my politics. But labeling it so just signals their own perverse contextualization of southernness to exclude my hero Fannie Lou Hamer to make way for hoop skirts and "how y'all?"s and honeyed accents that hide the sting of history. Henry and Andy helped me find a sense of home within my southern self when for so long what was within myself back home was what sent me into exile. Henry and Andy - exiled themselves to lives in NY - taught me that to have stayed back where we were raised would have been sentencing ourselves instead to an exile from ourselves. "Sometimes," Henry once said to me. "We are born in Elba. It's getting off that island to this one that saves our lives." He paused and put a Grether's Pastille into his mouth and stared at his half a cigar. He straightened his porcelain bowtie. I heard, as usual, the clink of the ring against it, a ring his jeweler cousin Johnny gave him, a hollowed out gold one inside of which were two small diamonds that could be emptied into one's hand from a tiny secret compartment. Henry emptied them into his soft small palm, they glistened in its pinkness. "Do you know what the name of the ship on which Napoleon was sent to his exile on Elba?" he asked. "The Undaunted. The HMS Undaunted."

Similar experience in Massachusetts and Vermont and Maine. It’s different from other parts of the IS, isn’t it? Why?

In my case it's "A streetcar named desire". And I asked for the summary of the sequel, obviously not an entire play/screenplay. Anyway here goes:
"Several years have passed since the events of "A Streetcar Named Desire." In "Desire's End," we find Blanche DuBois living in a quiet seaside town, attempting to rebuild her life after the traumatic events that unfolded in New Orleans. Despite her best efforts to leave her past behind, Blanche struggles with inner demons and haunted memories of her past.
Blanche has found solace in a new community, where she has become a beloved figure known for her kindness and wit. She works as a librarian, immersing herself in books and literature as a means of escape from her troubled past. However, her tranquility is disrupted when an unexpected visitor arrives in town – Stanley Kowalski.
Stanley, now older and seemingly more introspective, has sought out Blanche in search of closure and redemption for his role in her downfall years earlier. Their reunion is fraught with tension and unresolved emotions as they confront the ghosts of their shared past. Through intense conversations and confrontations, they grapple with guilt, forgiveness, and the complexities of human nature.
As the story unfolds, Blanche and Stanley find themselves drawn to each other once again, despite the scars of their past. Their interactions spark a journey of self-discovery and healing, as they confront their demons and come to terms with the choices they've made.
"Desire's End" explores themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the enduring power of human connection. It offers a poignant and thought-provoking continuation of Tennessee Williams' classic masterpiece, shedding new light on the characters of Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski as they navigate the complexities of love, loss, and redemption in the aftermath of "A Streetcar Named Desire.""
Lol I just thought it was a fun activity. It just came up with all that in a nano second. It's not the sequel I'd write but it's fun to pretend. So if you have a favorite film or play or show or whatever, it's a fun activity. You could even ask for a prequel or something.

Arguable the greatest actor of the 20th Century.
Born into an affluent family in 1904, Gielgud worked non stop from 1919 until his death in 2000.
Known for being a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
His performances of Hamlet, Lear, and Iago are ranked as the best ever performed. He was a legend at the Old Vic, West End, Oxford, Westminster, Globe, Lyric, Queen's, and the Royal Opera House.
He was an accomplished theatrical director, particularly in the classics.
He was never a fan of cinema and only chose great films to appear in- the silent film Who Is the Man?, The Good Companions, Alfred Hitchcock's Secret Agent, Julius Caesar, Richard III, Around the World in 80 Days, Becket, Chimes at Midnight, Sebastian, Oh! What a Lovely War, Lost Horizon, Murder on the Orient Express, Les Miserable, Murder by Decree, Why Didn't They Ask Evans?, The Elephant Man, Brideshead Revisited, Arthur, Chariots of Fire, Gandhi, Wagner, The Shooting Party, First Knight, The Portrait of a Lady, Hamlet, Shine, and Elizabeth.
There is simply no bad Gielgud performance.

The number of vacant houses in Japan has surged to a record high of nine million – more than enough for each person in New York City – as the east Asian country continues to struggle with its ever-declining population.
Abandoned houses are known in Japan as “akiya” – a term that usually refers to derelict residential homes tucked away in rural areas.
But more akiya are being seen in major cities, such as Tokyo and Kyoto, and that’s a problem for a government that’s already grappling with an aging population and an alarming fall in the number of children born each year.
“This is a symptom of Japan’s population decline,” said Jeffrey Hall, a lecturer at Kanda University of International Studies in Chiba. “It’s not really a problem of building too many houses” but “a problem of not having enough people,” he said.
According to figures compiled by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, 14% of all residential properties in Japan are vacant.
The numbers include second homes and those left empty for other reasons, including properties temporarily vacated while their owners work overseas.
They aren’t all left to ruin, like traditional akiya, whose growing number present a range of other problems for the government and communities, experts told CNN.
They include stifling attempts to rejuvenate decaying towns, becoming potential hazards due to the lack of maintenance, and raising the risks for rescuers in times of disaster in a country prone to earthquakes and tsunamis.
Akiya are often passed down through generations. But with Japan’s plummeting fertility rate, many are left with no heir to pass to, or are inherited by younger generations who have moved to the cities and see little value in returning to rural areas, experts told CNN.

Enty Lawyer the blind item king from Crazy Days and Nights has been outed and he isn't even practicing law if he is even an actual attorney. He is a fifty something year old podcaster and blogger who is in Indio, CA, He doesn't even live in LA. He is allegedlgy a very sick person and has done horrific things to women. His whole thing where he exposes predators is rich as he is also one. I have been in communication with a woman he has done terrible things to! He recorded hours of her when they were in a "relationship" together. She found out later on that he was married with 2 daughters. He love bombed her and gaslit her into believing they were going to live together in California and get married and have children. He told her he loved her and was coming to be with her and 1 hour later she was served with stalking papers. The court saw his texts to her and said that the stalking complaints were not valid but by making the papers so public he put her at risk from her ex husband who she escaped from getting beaten by. This man needs to pay the price -- the same price he's been putting on other predators in Hollywood. Now that I know this, I know that this man knows no celebrities, is probably not a lawyer, isn't practicing law, is married with kids but victimizes other women. He got into a huge fight with his wife which somehow he left a voicemail of the other woman. His former cohost for true crime was apparently treated the same way.

Seagal, who is apparently continuing to morph into the world's fattest dojo master, was in Moscow to accept the award and offer yet more praise for Putin.
The Order of Friendship is given to foreigners and Russians (Seagal is a Russian citizen) who make a unique contribution to humanitarian efforts, world peace, and major business ventures. Seagal has spent the past year trolling Western media with remarks about how dangerous Ukraine is to Europe, and how Putin is doing the world a favor by turning the whole country into a moonscape.
This medal, just like adult-onset diabetes, is Seagal's reward for his willful choices.

In school, there were few children who were not toilet trained. I could never be in that situation. My mother told me later that at one year-old my brother and I were toilet trained. We had a white tin pot shaped like a hat with two handles, and another that we kept under our bed in case we needed it at night or early in the morning. I remember one morning I decided to amuse my brother after having filled the pot. My brother laughed so hard that my mother came in from the kitchen and was speechless at the incredible site. My head was completely covered with shit. The mother laughed too, telling us that according to superstition this would bring good luck in the future.

It's extremely utilizarian to combine a handheld shower head with a regular show, so that sort of makes me think cheap. On the other hand, having a regular shower head and a side handheld shower seems a bit redundant.
Oh great DL tastemakers, what are your thoughts (in the link, ignore the specific finish and focus on the functional setup)

John Leguizamo says he still remembers how hard it was to work with Patrick Swayze.
The duo co-starred alongside Wesley Snipes in “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! July Newmar” (1995), a comedy about three drag queens on a road trip. When asked if the late great Swayze was the “angel” he’s remembered as, however, Leguizamo kept it real.
“It was difficult working with him,” he recalled Thursday on Sirius XM’s “Radio Andy.”
“[He was,] I don’t know, just neurotic, maybe a tiny bit insecure,” Leguizamo added, when host Andy Cohen asked for details. “And then Wesley and I, we vibed because, you know, we’re people of color and we got each other.”
Leguizamo was already an established comedian when he was cast in the part, which he said Thursday he “rewrote” because “that role was nothing.” While that creativity landed him his first Golden Globe nomination, Leguizamo said it made Swayze “mad and upset” on set.
“I’m also an improviser, and [Swayze] didn’t like that,” Leguizamo said. “He couldn’t keep up with it. He’d be like, ‘Are you gonna say a line like that?’ I’d go, ‘You know me. I’m gonna do me. I’m gonna just keep making up lines,’” Leguizamo recalled. “He goes, ‘Well, can you just say the line the way it is?’ I go, ‘I can’t,’ and the director didn’t want me to.”
Swayze revealed in his 2009 memoir, “The Time of My Life,” that this bickering began as early as rehearsals for the film. He recalled Leguizamo’s “hyperactive” horseplay driving him so “crazy” that he screamed at his energetic co-star to “shut the fuck up for once.”

Reality star Bethenny Frankel and her fiancé, Paul Bernon, have reportedly split.
The former "Real Housewives of New York" star and the film producer called off their engagement about two months ago and after nearly six years together, Us Weekly reported Monday.
Representatives for Frankel and Bernon did not immediately respond Tuesday to The Times' requests for comment.
“It just wasn’t going to work,” a mutual friend of the former couple told Us Weekly. “They are so different — he’s an under-the-radar kind of guy."
The "ReWives" podcast host reportedly kept her 10-carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring — valued at approximately $1 million — confusing her droves of social media followers when she continued to wear it in recent weeks.
She and Bernon began dating in October 2018 after meeting on a dating app and began living together.
“I was pretty lucky when I walked in and saw him,” Frankel told People in April 2021. “He had a twinkle. He came as advertised — better than advertised. He overshot the mark.”
The two briefly split in October 2020 but reunited in January 2021. About two months later, they announced their engagement after she finalized her long-running divorce from Jason Hoppy, with whom she shares 13-year-old daughter Bryn.

The Palace of Versailles, famously opulent and vast, is often celebrated for its architectural grandeur and the lavish ceremonies that took place within its walls. But at its core, it was essentially a giant overcrowded hotel of horrors for the entire French nobility, who were given their own room and key that symbolised both privilege and entrapment. Beneath the gilded surface, Versailles was not merely a royal residence but a sophisticated mechanism of political control, designed to keep the French nobility on a tight leash and under close surveillance. One might even compare it to the Bates motel. Cloaked in the guise of “luxury” hospitality, it was however, a masterclass in political strategy.
So how would Hotel Versailles fare in the ratings? Not very well at all. Think more “roach motel”. The palace was very crowded, and residents were typically allocated small rooms, not based on payment but on loyalty and status. Garret (attic) rooms were all that was left for the aspiring courtier, which were basically ultra-cramped, unsanitary, and sparsely furnished (if at all).
But it wasn’t just the aspiring nobility that drew the short straws. Versailles famously didn’t have toilets. Only the most high-ranking favourites of the Sun King had private closets in their rooms, but the first flush toilet wasn’t actually installed until the next king, Louis XV came to the throne. Even Marie Antoinette was said to have been once hit by a chamber pot being emptied out of a window. There were very limited public latrines available on the estate, and they would have made the toilet cubicles at music festivals look like the Four Seasons. They often overflowed from overuse and sewage seeped into the apartments of Versailles. Courtiers and servants alike took to relieving themselves in the palace, crouched down in the corridor or curled up in a window recess. One German Princess Elizabeth Charlotte staying at Versailles remarked, “the people stationed in the galleries in front of our room piss in all the corners. It is impossible to leave one’s apartments without seeing somebody pissing.”

Marlon Wayans shares how he was able to turn his grief into the premise for his fourth special.
Wayans, 51, shared in an interview with The New York Times that his upcoming special, Good Grief, “rescued [him] from depression by learning to laugh in [his] worst circumstances.”
Throughout the interview, Wayans notes that he’s lost nearly 60 loved ones, including his parents, Howell Stouten, who died at 86 in early April 2023, and Elvira Alethia, who died at 81 in July 2020.
"I lost 58 people that I loved in a matter of three years. It felt, like, biblical," the comedian shared. "I think as a comedian, I’m getting to the good stuff.”
"When you talk about real-life pain, like parents passing, and you can get through that set and you can still be irreverent, edgy, crazy, silly, thought-provoking, and vulnerable, I think that’s growth."
“I miss my parents dearly, but I’m a different human with my parents gone than I was when they were here. Now I’m a man. I don’t have parents anymore, so I live differently. I understand the quality of life,” Wayans said, adding, “I pray more, because when I pray I feel like I’m speaking to my parents and that they’re listening. I let them know what’s going on.”
He revealed that the death of his mother “broke” and "shattered [him] into a million pieces," adding, "That was my girl."
"I never got married, because I never wanted my mother to be jealous of a woman. I never wanted my mother to feel second to any woman.”

As midnight ticks around and the fireworks burst in the skies of my hometown, it’s time for the first reading thread of the New Year, where DataLounge friends share what they are reading, good or bad. Short stories etc are welcome.
As per the previous thread, I am still listening to Moby Dick, but not during chemotherapy, there are too many interruptions and I am enjoying the story far too much for stopping and starting. So it’s on my commute.
I wanted a big, easy to read saga to read over the holidays so I am rereading Gone With The Wind for the first time since childhood. Scarlett has less of Vivien Leigh’s devious intelligence, and Melanie isn’t a beatific and sickly sweet as per Olivia de Havilland but guileless, plucky and almost immature. Reading now, they are very much sheltered teenagers.
I read the CWA Gold Dagger winner every year so The Kingdoms of Savannah by George Dawes Green is on my list.
