Lauren Boebert's "Socialist" son wants Colorado taxpayers to foot his legal defense bills
Tyler on assistance.
We are working to hire an attorney, but it's just been kind of hard with the prices," Tyler told the Garfield County Court on April 11, per Denver media outlet Westword.
"Worst case scenario, if we can't get something figured out with the lawyer, then we're going to apply for a public defender [bold]or whatever works best for me," he continued[/bold].
"I always think it's a good idea to maybe do both, because if you qualify, you have options. We can set this off for a little bit of time for you to make that decision," 9th Judicial District Judge John F. Neiley told Tyler.
Representatives for Rep. Boebert declined Westword's request for comment when asked if she would support Tyler in paying his legal bills.

Doesn't Lauren have to serve another term to get a pension?

I wonder how many times the Boebert name has appeared in court dockets across the years.
Tyler is due back in court on May 9 for an "appearance of counsel" in his felony theft case, according to Garfield County records. His father, Jayson Boebert, will also be appearing in Garfield County court on April 15 for a disposition hearing related to charges filed against him for an altercation with Lauren at the Miner's Claim Restaurant in Silt.
Jayson is currently facing disorderly conduct charges, third-degree trespass and obstruction of a peace officer. He did not respond to requests for comment Thursday related to his son's court hearing.
I guess Jayson's no comment means he's not paying either.

Is it possible that you don’t know that a right to an attorney is a Constitutional right? It’s not in any way a handout.

R2: You're confusing the healthcare retirement benefit and general retirement. Members of Congress qualify for one of four flavors of a pension after 5 years of service, but it's part of Social Security so it's based on overall length of employment and salary, so sadly Bobo and Toilet Green will both qualify for Congressional pensions but both will only be a small part of whatever they get from Social Security. However, the real grift is the healthcare benefit that members receive [italic]for life[/italic] after 6 years of service. It's (a small part of) why it is imperative that Bobo and Toilet don't win re-election. I don't want my tax dollars going to those two charlatans until their deaths, and you know that Congress' healthcare plan is rich with benefits and perks of which we lowly taxpayers could only dream.
an attorney is a Constitutional right? It’s not in any way a handout
That's not how the government (or for that matter, reality) looks at it. It is a Constitutional right to have representation, but that the government provides a public defender is, in fact, a handout.
We can set this off for a little bit of time for you to make that decision," 9th Judicial District Judge John F. Neiley told Tyler.
Yet another example of our two-tiered system of justice. Little Tyler here gets dispensation for not getting his shit together in time for his trial, but were he not white and/or not connected, the judge would not have allowed him any extra time. Rather, the judge would have admonished him for not getting his representation lined up before the proceedings began, and assigned a public defender right then and there in this proceeding, granting him a short delay in order for the defense to get up to speed; not at all comparable to the grant of time for Tyler to think about whether he should seek private counsel or shove that responsibility off on taxpayers, and in either case, will grant him additional time once Tyler decides (or finds out whether his parents will pay for private counsel).

No, it’s not. Nor is the government picking up the cost of providing a trial by jury or the cost of due process.
No, it’s not. Nor is the government picking up the cost of providing a trial by jury or the cost of due process.
In your understanding, r34, who or what entity pays for these things? Wages to prosecutors, the judge, court clerks, the janitors who keep the courthouse clean, utilities, maintenance, and building upkeep. The public defender's office has similar expenses. And jurors are paid some small amount.
You seem to indicate at r34 that these things come free of cost. Does the sky fairy sprinkle magic dust or manufacture money to cover expenses?

Pop's hearing was continued until May. I wonder how many families in the Rifle and Silt area can claim that 50% of its members have mugshots and extensive legal entanglements like the Boeberts. And the three youngest still haven't come of age for the criming genes to express themselves.
