What is, (or was), your favorite Data Lounge thread?
Let's bring some exposure and traffic to some of these threads! Name those threads which have you coming back to DL over, and over, again! You can post more than once, and hopefully you can link to the thread that you cite and like! That thread may gain some new fans!!! I know that I am curious, and interested, to learn about what others are looking at, and posting on.
So! What is your favorite DL thread???

I love the "Men Showing Affection" threads. I believe there about 3-4 of them now. I like to daydream every now and then and click through the images of men showing genuine affection. The threads are pretty clean of porn, (which I like), and just shows men with each other, their families, etc. I go back to these threads just to smile, sometimes cry a bit, and at other times to wonder why I can't have this type of relationship.

I couldn't find it if I tried, but I liked that thread about the gay man who had a sister that didn't invite his partner, I think, to her wedding and what should he do. What was funny about it was that the bride's name was used and DL found a bride's registry with that same name! Gosh! They caused havoc on that girl's registry. It was SOOO wrong, but that shit was SOOO funny!!!

There was an amazing one a couple of years ago. I wish I could find it but any search terms I can think yo use are too generic - so I'd be really grateful if anyone else can remember it...
Anyway, it was a bit like R36's - about the tales, many heartbreaking, of people's coming out stories. It was one of the few times where the DL kept it real. No one was flippant, the stories were profound and incredible and ran over multiple generations making it a great potted history of being gay over the last fifty plus years. At times funny. At times terrifying. But invariably showing how we can triumph over adversity.
I know at the time it was said it should have been turned into a book, the stories were that varied, powerful and important.

R50, R52 I'm pretty sure the Boston Philly couple were gay men - there was another man involved too, the ex bf of the half of the couple who wanted out. The complaining half of the couple hated sucking the other one's dick as I recall - not lezzies. It was very dramatic. The one who wanted to leave was sneaking off to see his ex, who was an alcoholic. At one point the alkie went crazy and the cope found him in the crawl space under his home. Some pets were killed too, as I recall.

The BEST response that I saw on one of those gossip threads was some actor who reads DL religiously, (according to him), who got a kick out of, and laughed about, all the men that he was supposedly sleeping with. According to him, all he did was work and come home to his dog. There were no clues whatsoever regarding who he is
Also, there were two threads about the porn star Rogan Richards. He actually came on here to post and even linked the thread to his site. I found his comment;
"hey guys. love the bitchy comments - reposted them up on my media platforms always makes me smile. when u put yourself out there like i do you gotta take the punches with the pats. to clear up a few things though, both my folks are Anglo-Indian and I'm more German and British than Indian. As of my last sexual screening I am clean as a whistle, across the board, like a nun. Steriods does age you and give you a turtle belly, both which i embrace, in my journey to becoming a muscle beast. I realise this look isn't for everyone but luckily for you guys there's many other porn actors and physique models you can move onto. Can't do much about my voice, unless i get a mask and walk around like Bane. Love me or hate me, at least you're talking about me... XXX RR

My all-time favourite is "My sister-in-law 'phobed me" and "My sister-in-law 'phobed me Vol.2", but the latter one was drowned out by fraubots, and the first one can't be found with a search after the Great Redesign of 2015. At least I couldn't find the first thread anymore :(
But the taste of how it all began is at URL, #post-13674989
The greatness of the story centered around our gay home-cooking chef who was slighted by his sister-in-law. He then made a tray of very tasty chocolate brownies, but inconspicuously changed swapped one of them to one that contained ex-lax. Then he also left some chocolate laced with ex-lax for her evil sister-in-law (SIL) to eat without permission, which caused her to become totally unhinged.
Then we learned that SIL was cheating on her husband in the office (IIRC), and was eventually got fired, because she missed work, because the bottom fell out from under her for eating ex-lax-chocolate; and our hero along with his husbro began to prepare the bf's brother (SIL's husband) for divorce. And the whole épopée was garnered throughout with superb recipes and cooking methods rivalling "Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management".
Second thread that became an echo of its former self: www.datalounge.com/thread/13614666-my-sister-in-law-phobed-me-2
The Great Redesign of 2015 meant that I couldn't see the links list in my old browser, which wouldn't support the redesign.

He was a guy who worked as a cater waiter at Hollywood parties and would share his gossip, R117. It was of the "X drinks too much and Y was flirting with twinks" variety.
He was run off after someone accused him of being a sockpuppet. He was posting little hints during his threads to get people to guess his BIs and someone took that as "sockpuppeting." After all the BIs were guessed in that thread he never came back.

Susie Lee was the poster who brought fun and acerbic old Hollywood gossip here. She always used her authenticated name to post but slowly and gradually revealed she was the daughter of character actor Kurt Kasznar.
Now, you might not think that would make her privy to much interesting dish but Kasznar was actually a ubiquitous presence in Hollywood (contract player at MGM) and Broadway (original Max in The Sound of Music) for over three decades and seemed to know everybody.
Like the other rare enlightened sources here, she was frightened away by unappreciative, disbelieving idiots.

2. Denny and his suitcase in the Big Apple.
3. Once around the garden.
All made me howl with laughter. RIP dl archive.

LOVE THE Darfur Orphan posts.
A few years back I had about 45 minutes to kill in a doctor's waiting room and found the thread about movie titles and plots for future Jennifer Anniston movies. Reading it was a mistake because I started laughing which was so not appreciated by other "waitees" which, of course, added to the amusement. You know, like when you get the (inappropriate) giggles at a funeral.

[quote] As far as posts, the one that still makes me laugh out loud was someone describing Patti Lupone as singing, "I wanna wedding with a HONK HONK and HONK HONK with a HONK HONK..."
That really is how she sings that song.

God help me, and everyone, FLAME away, but my first introduction to DL (courtesy of something I read in Michael Musto's column in the Voice), was in 2005, and I became entranced, absorbed, OBSESSED, by the MFA/DomElijah threads. What a ...mess? fascinating mess??
Also, the "let me tell you about Deb Messing..." thread(s) - priceless!

The "worst date" thread that had the comment, "Hairy Drag Boy is smoking crack in my living room! Lucky me! Lucky, lucky me!"
Oh, and this is off-topic but I loved this tweet from retired General Chuck Yeager, when asked on Twitter, "Who wins in a dogfight, you or Eddie Rickenbacker?"

The (in)famous "Sows at the Trough" thread, with the classic first post:
[quote]Well, it is has happened again at our office: a sales rep came in with a shopping bag of bagels and cream cheese, and four or five of the heifer clerks that work here heaved their fat asses out of their chairs and huffed into that break room like it was the last food on earth! Never mind that they have no interaction with any of the vendors anyway and are in no position to discuss any type of business. But they sure can shove cream cheese into their fat pie holes!
[quote]Me? I sat sedately at my desk, sipping my black coffee, waiting for the rep to approach me. It is too embarassing to be in there with those rutting pigs.

I recall one where older guys like me basically discussed their favorite made-for-television movies of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. It was fascinating! Lots of important Patty Duke information to discuss.
The fairly recent Mamie Eisenhower threads were excellent!

The thread that linked to a high school annual from the 40's or 50's. Everyone began to make up stories about all the people in the photos.
Several of them had the same last name, so they must have been cousins or siblings....the annuals may have covered a couple of generations.
It was hilarious. THEN someone who KNEW the people found the thread and started telling the REAL stories of the people....
Still my favorite.

Why do some guys set the toilet paper roll on the back of the toilet?
Reply 2 is solid gold
[quote] Jeez you are one dumb broad, OP. Men sit facing the back of the toilet when we shit. We don't sit facing forward some like dumb chick. That way we can rest our book or magazine on top of the toilet tank while we sit there for an hour or so reading and taking a mega dump. That's why we put the toilet paper roll within easy reach on back of the toilet tank next to our beer. Lezzies probably do the same thing.

Great memories.
I liked it when everyone would get upset about G/R/UMPY and his issues. UMPY (as he was last known) would reveal way too much information about his life.
Any threads about meeting celebrities, seeing celebrities naked, or having sex with celebrities. These threads always brought "the stars" back down to earth for me.
I do have to say that the site seemed more clever in the old format, if only because the wit & wisdom was always right there in the left column. There was one thread about favorite episodes from I Love Lucy, and someone posted a plot synopsis about Lucy and Ethel's wacky scheme to hide Ethel's most recent abortion. I laughed out loud every single time I read that -- and it was in the W&W column for quite a while. It's harder to find the clever now.

I LOVED "Once Around the Garden" even though I suspected it never happened. I also loved and was suspicious of "I'm Not Running a B&B here." Was that fiction or did that guy really only have one towel and a limited number of turkey meatballs?

The "My Sister-in-Law 'Phobed me" threads, Part I and Part II. Most unfortunately, both were deleted because of excessive spamming.
Writer of this, if you've got all of that saved anywhere, pleeze-pleeze have it published, because the protagonist's gastronomic travails are culinary gold.
You see, after a while, the entire synopsis of how the gay homecook delivered the just desserts to his homophobic sister-in-law, begins to fade :/
I think I only have the first page or thereabouts saved, and that's about it :'(
