So we're being held hostage by the Leftovers? This is insane.

I knew a bunch of these cases were the religious loony types, like Pence and Mother, and that whacko over at HUD....I didn't know our State Dept. was also overrun...
Wash, rinse, repeat....we had this shit in every century of our existence as a country. I'm figuring we're pretty doomed with these types all too willing to see themselves as 'above it all' or 'the chosen ones'

Pompeo will be attending the inauguration of the newly elected homophobic fascist President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro.
Who not incidentally was elected through the assistance of Steve Bannon and Cambridge Analytica.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 28, 2018 12:45 AM |
I see someone has been paying attention. Bolsonaro just named a scumbag who is considered the main suspect in the brutal murder of an activist, 78 year old nun, as a minister for land management in his cabinet, and has pretty much declared death upon all the Amazonian indigenous people.
The Mandaraku (SP?) are particularly vulnerable and will fight to defend their homeland. They already destroyed what was considered their 'heaven' so they have nothing left to lose.

This site is a good source for international information. More journalists, particularly those reporting on environmental issues, have been murdered in the last 2 years than in the previous 10.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 28, 2018 12:56 AM |
That site also covers the impact of this administration's environmental policies. We're running out of time to fix things and this is the response. People are afraid and elect these 'strong men' to 'fix' the issues only to realize, too late, that they've been had by the local used car salesman intent on running a fire sale for his family and friends.
If only the knife had been longer.....
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 28, 2018 1:01 AM |
Bannon, imo, is complicit in murders and will have more blood on his hands soon. I wonder why no one has taken this pig out yet?

Sarah Sanders is again attacking CNN.
Apparently the whole Trump administration hates CNN. This is odd since nearly every CNN panel has a paid, "talking head" who is a Republican operative or call a politician there to defend and/or expplain Trump.
They don't attack MSNBC specifically often; maybe because NBC has the background of audios and videos from Trump's Apprentice days.

Bolsonaro is a motherfucker. The WA Post said he "makes Trump look like Mr. Rogers", and they certainly got that take right.
Anybody who isn't a straight white dude has to fear Bolsonaro - indigenous people, blacks, gays, the Amazon, you name it.
Street graffiti sprouted up all over Brazil in the month before the runoff election saying "VOTE BOLSONARO - DEATH TO BLACKS AND GAYS". It's gonna get really fucking ugly. Like military dictatorship II ugly.

If White House personnel, the Senate and House, and all their staff, we're among those not collecting their paychecks, the furlough would end quickly, even though there are many millionaires among them.
Trump intended to create the standoff.

Just some ideas...is it possible it was Cohen's phone but not him and that someone else was using a phone Cohen had bought to keep his identity secret (like Don Jr)?
it doesn't seem reasonable that Mueller would let something like that go if Cohen was lying about going there

Mueller hasnt revealed any of the Russia specific charges against Americans yet. We will see this rogues gallery again (Flynn, Cohen, Papadopolous, etc...). Note: NONE of the charging documents and plea deals mention any of the Russia related charges being bartered away.

It's been suggested that someone got the IMEI from his phone and used it to make a clone of his phone which was then used in/around Prague. How feasible that is, I can't say.

They attack cnn because it’s the lowbrow teevee news that isn’t rightwing propaganda so it stands out as the enemy more than other news media.
Better educated people who read the times or post are probably democrats anyway. It’s CNN that’s most likely to sway nudnik independents.

I read that many people believe what they see and hear on television. I haven't watched television since 2006, maybe that's why I can't believe what lots of people in the US believe. I can't handle the VOICES and inFLECTion they HAVE. "What does this mean?" "Well, obviously it means [talking points 2, 3, and 5 out of the ten hawked in a newly published book or disinformation manifesto]." "No that's bull-bleep." People talk over each other. "Gentlemen, we have to go to commercial." That's what passes for current affairs programming now, right?

Truth be told: I have no frikken idea WHY it is taking Meuller so looooonnnngg to bring some charged against Trump. A good number of citizens view him as as a national threat!! Each day that asshole is left alone now, he's gonna endanger more innocent people and sabotage every agency and everything positive that the US stands for. Why is this going on forever. There comes a time when the damage done is irreparable.

by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 28, 2018 5:46 AM |
Meuller can bring obstruction of justice charges today! It seems with each passing day, Trump is saying or committing an act of obstruction (treason, really!). That's how I know that our system doesn't work anymore. And then from this alone I can extrapolate that the Dem response will be nothing short of a slap on the wrist for Trump and his grifter family. Don't let yourself be disappointed only then.
If the shoe were on the other foot, the Repugs would claim obstruction within 6 months of a Dem Pres. and halt mattters right there. Trump and his fake administration IS a threat to our national security!
How much should we bet and/or say we'll be sadly pissed off when justice is not wrought.

A Russian bank gave Marine Le Pen’s party a loan. Then weird things began happening. By Paul Sonne December 27 at 9:47 AM
PARIS — When French politician Marine Le Pen needed cash for her far-right party, an obscure Russian bank agreed to help.
Four years later, the bank has gone bust. The owner is facing a warrant for his arrest. Former Russian military officers are demanding money. And the party’s treasurer is sending off some $165,000 every few months to a woman in Moscow, unsure of where the payments ultimately will go.
The money failed to deliver Le Pen the French presidency in last year’s election, denying the Kremlin a powerful ally in the heart of Europe. Instead, the 9.4 million-euro loan, then worth $12.2 million, dragged her party into the shadowy underworld of Russian cross-border finance, putting it in league with people accused of having ties to Russian organized crime, money laundering and military operations.

Are geo tag locations stored for a longer period of time? If they are this would pretty much make murder investigations quite easy to confirm suspects' whereabouts.

McClatchy reporter Greg Gordon on MSNBC last night: Intercepts described to McClatchy by Eastern European intelligence sources said that a "senior Russian official" is on tape saying something to the effect of "Michael Cohen is in Prague." Gordon admitted that he has never seen solid evidence, though, relying entirely on the six sources in his article. "It's a competitive business," Gordon said, hinting that they were worried that they were going to be scooped.
I'm skeptical -- but then again, McClatchy, in its previous guise as Knight-Ridder, was the only paper to get it right about the run-up to the Iraq War.

R58 I’m no expert, but I do think geotags can be really useful in investigations. It was used to helped convict Adnan Masud Syed of Serial podcast fame. But it can be imprecise—again, I’m no expert... would love to hear from some people who know how it works.
My opinion is that Cohen was definitely in the Prague area but maybe not in the city limits exactly. That’s why he can claim he wasn’t. The only way he wasn’t there is if someone had his phone and/or SIM card.

During the 2016 primaries and election, Trump, Sanders, and Stein revealed, to varying levels, connections and accommodations to Putin and his interests. Rand Paul sounded suspicious in this regard and or.
Several other Republicans running early had PACs that received Putin-connected oligarch contributions. This included Scott walker, even John Kasich, and quite extensively at $800,000+ known, Miss Lindsey.
Mitch McConnell, and a several others not running for President, but were powerful/influential per the election, also received oligarch contributions. Mitch's PAC was at a very disturbing level.
None of this should be ignored by investigators.

I understand that Mueller wants to take everyone down at once because it is going to cause chaos but will cause much more if it is dragged out. Of course each time someone is indicted it gives the others more time to try and cover their tracks. I think this is just so damned involved because it has been going on for years, that it is taking them this long to get it all together. Didn't someone say that Mueller said he thinks he will have wrapped it up by the end of Feb.?
there are so many predictions out there and some just completely contradict the others so we are just sitting in a waiting game. It's hard but I think in a few months our waiting will be over but we will be sitting here shell shocked and God only knows how long that will last. I have read some predictions that it will take a few decades to undo what Trump has done BUT this had to eventually happen, so all we can do is hope that there is less damage done now than if this had happened 10 or 20 years from now. We are making a new America.

Stein IS for sure a Russian asset, and I am one of the people guilty of giving money to support her recount efforts. At that time, I was only in the beginning stages of understanding how Russia plays a complex long game. I felt truly humiliated when I realized I had been completely played by this cunt. I want Stein to go down just as much as all the rest of the traitors.
I know now that Americans can only be charged with treason if we have declared war against a country. Let’s pretemd on January 4th Congress declares war with Russia — THEN would the activities of Trump and Co qualify as treason too? Like retro-active? I’m not worried, there’s so many other charges to bring on them, I just love the symbolism of a treason charge.

To me the most insidious thing about this whole affair is the tendency to contrast Trump with earlier Republican presidents and the party as it was before his takeover—it leads to a stark differentiation and ultimately a whitewashing. Bullshit; Trump is the logical outcome of a party that long has cultivated conformity, power-worship, fundamentalism, even paranoia. Trump's opportunistic improvisations on the facts aren't fundamentally different from Reagan's. His cynical exploitation of foreign powers abroad and racism at home started at least with Nixon. Bush Sr's equivocations over China's brutality in Tiananmen are an apt precursor to Trump's over murdered journalists etc. John Dean was already calling out the Republican party for their embrace of authoritarianism in the mid-Bush Jr years. I could go on and on.
Trump can't be disconnected from the Republican party as it's metastasized since the 60s. The whole party has to change radically or be uprooted.

We were in a war with Russian, we just didn't know we had been attacked yet because it was a cyber war. Formal declarations of war don't happen anymore. And, if we want to get technical, we've had about four straight presidents now talking about the War on Terrorism. That's modern warfare. It's not two armies clashing on a battlefield. We are at war. We are always at war.

The descent into corrupt party has been going on for decades with the republicans. Trump is just the culmination of it and somehow the point of no return. They just don't have the demographics anymore to win elections. To survive they had to go this way and Russia was showing them how to do it.

Putin and Trump took advantage from an already established network system of greed and corruption that holds the Republican Party in its tight grip. Trump sent spies to infiltrate the representatives and the email hacking supplied further pressure to do Putin's biddings.

yes that's true but until more baby boomers start dying out, the repubs stand a chance to win. Despite there being more registered Democrats in Florida, that state usually goes repub. I know they cheat and suppress voters but still, the Democrats should not be losing that state.
Georgia and North Carolina seem to be on the brink of going blue but aren't quite there yet.
Beto unlocked a big blue contingency in Texas but not enough to take over that state yet. Democrats need to keep focusing on Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Texas. If we can get those 4, we'll win everything.

I think some idiots think that when Giuliani prepares the Deplorables for the truth (that Trump is indeed guilty of what he's being accused of - so it's not a bogus witch hunt after all) that the rest of the nation buys it as well and just shrugs their shoulders and moves on. But what will be the real result is that people are going to be so put off by Trump and the Republican Party that they will not vote for them. They will either sit the election in 2020 out or vote in protest for a Democratic candidate.

r99 Partisan Dems do not insulate themselves as the right does. That is bothsiderism. repugs insulate themselves to the extent facts are fake and they make shit up. Liberals seek out news even if we don't like it. I've seen it in real time here. We accept things if they don't go our way. If any Dem lives in a bubble it is just a bubble against RW propaganda.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | December 28, 2018 7:40 PM |
Republicans are more likely to be an united front when it comes to their conservative agenda than Democrats are. That dynamic changed slighty with Tea Partiers (which later turned into Deplorables) pushing the party further to the right as it already was. During that transition process the Republican Party was indeed divided and not unified. On the Democratic side it's the so called Berniebros who do the dividing, but to me it's looks more like Divide and Conquering instead of trying to push a new Liberal agenda for the Democratic Party to accept as new status quo.

R107, "treason" is defined narrowly in the Constitution--it means levying war against the US, or giving aid or comfort to an "enemy" -- a country with which the US is at war. That was the meaning of the term at the time the Constitution was written, and early Supreme Court cases clarified this.

Pence was the perfect choice. There was already talk of financial malfeasance back in his home state - and if those clever Russians had hacked his personal laptop and phone - bet they were able to harvest all sorts of interesting stuff - and all from such a godly man! Who knew?
Have you really watched him in action when Trump is around? He looks like a man in pain. I see in it the face and body language of a man who knows he’s sold out his country and every value he has - so that he can live well and know he won’t be exposed. It can’t be comfortable though. Wonder how he sleeps at night...

US Presidential election rigging and stacking the Supreme Court is the road to destruction for Repubs. We were really asleep under Dubya. We are paying dearly for it now. I was shocked with the SC decisions in favor for Citizens United and the revamp of bankruptcy laws that exclude forgiving student loans. Those two decisions will wreck our country for some time going forward.
Foreign funding of political elections was brought up against CU, but newly seated John Roberts, Scalia and Kennedy betrayed our country with by passing this legislation So this is what it feels like to have a foreign country (Russia) in control of our country.
The next shoe to drop will be the destruction of our economy (and the Dollar) when students are unable to pay off ther loans. Mark my words!

R100, N S, Sherlock. The Steele Dossier is 100% true, and only our prissy MSM have kept the doubt alive.
Believe that Trump was surveilled and videotaped whenever and wherever he went in Moscow.
But while he might be embarrassed and even shamed by this prostitute video, what Trump is actually deathly afraid of is his not being able to re-pay his huge financial debt to Putin and Russian oligarch bankers. Eric Trump is on record as saying that most of their financing comes/came from Russia.
Manafort is signaling that prison is far preferable to ratting on Putin.

Lindsey must not realize a "no deal" impacts both sides and Trump owns the consequences of the shutdown.
Lindsey and his staff are getting their government checks without interruption. He has collected an extraordinary amount of multiple government checks regularly for years.
Lindsey says nothing about the crumbing intrastructure in South Carolina with horrible roads and bridges needing repair. But he's fine with oil exploration/drilling off the state's coastline. An extraordinarily expensive wall, of questionable need, is what Lindsey is now grandstanding about. He must have his orders.
This looks like a camera-hogging, kompromatized Trump sycophant that is getting more bizzare each week. Is there a capacity to self-reflect? The MSM needs to stop presenting him as a balanced, pensive expert who strictly abheres to some undefined moral compass. The absurdity is profound.

From today's E-V.com. As our illustrious Op has stated previously: It's starting to look alike like TREASON.
Russians pressured Manafort while he lead Trump Campaign
Just about every day, even during the holiday season, the connections between the Trump campaign and the Russians get clearer and/or more numerous. So it was on Saturday, when Time magazine reported that the Russians were twisting Paul Manafort's arm about his debts to them, even while he was serving as chair of Donald Trump's presidential campaign.
The key figure in the story is former Russian intelligence officer Victor Boyarkin, who works for Oleg Deripaska, an oligarch with close ties to Vladimir Putin. Boyarkin's shady activities are well enough known to the U.S. government that he is already on the list of Russian individuals being sanctioned by the United States (as is Deripaska). And the debts at issue are between $19 and $45 million that Deripaska claims he deposited in the Cayman Islands and that Manafort absconded with. If that is true, then it means Manafort is not only incredibly dishonest, but also incredibly stupid, since these are not the type of people you double-cross (especially when eight-figure sums are on the line). Certainly the Russians think it is true, because Boyarkin was putting the screws to Manafort throughout the campaign in 2016. And, in an apparent effort to buy some time, Manafort briefed Konstantin Kilimnik, an associate of both Deripaska and Boyarkin, on the campaign less than two weeks before Trump formally accepted the GOP nomination.
Ultimately, the picture that is coming into focus is this: Just about every key player in the Trump campaign had a compelling reason to play ball with the Russians. Manafort because he was trying to keep himself from ending up on the wrong end of a cup of polonium tea. Michael Flynn because he had clients (i.e., the Turkish government) with a vested interest in making nice with the Russian government. Roger Stone and Jerome Corsi because they are hard-core GOP operatives who wanted dirt on Hillary Clinton. And Donald Trump and family because of business opportunities in Moscow and/or kompromat and/or a desire for dirt on Clinton. Not everybody had the same motivations, but each had goals that could be achieved by cooperation between Team Trump and Team Putin. In that circumstance, collusion/conspiracy of some sort is not only possible, it's likely. Especially when we are dealing with a group of people whose moral compasses are questionable.
Needless to say, special counsel Robert Mueller already knows all of this. He's tried to talk to Boyarkin about the matter (and was apparently turned down). It's probable that Mueller also knows the truth about the millions that Manafort allegedly took, and whether or not the former Trump campaign chair has gotten himself into a financial hole from which he cannot escape. This could also help explain why Manafort lied to Mueller, risking a lengthy prison sentence, since anywhere other than prison may be none-too-safe for him (of course, even in prison, the Russians may be able to get to him). We shall see if we gain any more insight into the matter before Manafort is sentenced in February. (Z)

The author of the opinion piece at r235 is Nelson W. Cunningham, who, it says down at the bottom
[quote]has served as a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York under Rudolph Giuliani, general counsel of the Senate Judiciary Committee under then-chair Joseph R. Biden, and general counsel of the White House Office of Administration under Bill Clinton. He is now president of McLarty Associates, an international strategic advisory firm based in Washington.
Make of that what you will.
With Bill Clinton's former chief of staff, Mack McLarty, he co-founded McLarty Associates, a "strategic advisory" firm whose that "lies at the nexus of business and policy," according to its website. "We understand the complexities of international markets and help our clients navigate the strategic and operational challenges they face around the globe."
Linked below is an opinion piece he placed in Politico a couple months ago suggesting the super-secret proceedings were Trump himself getting a subpoena and fighting Mueller. Now we know his theory was wrong.
What are we to make of this holiday-weekend op-ed placed in a political news site by the head of a firm, seemingly eager to opine on this case, that doesn't have to disclose its clients?
We may know someday.

R245, I remember being dismayed when Trump pulled out of the missile treaty, but so much has happened since that I never connected the dots between that and the new Russian missile tests. That's some frightening stuff, especially since our military has probably developed nothing of the sort--after all, we had a treaty to rely on.
That connection needs to make the news big time. It may be the single most damaging thing Trump has done since he was 'elected' and I have no doubt he did it for Putin.

R299 Chris Cuomo is getting his ass handed to him for giving propagandists a platform on his show. His excuse is that he's trying to reveal the tactics of the Trump cultists--and scolding his viewers for "just not liking what they have to say."
I wrote and told him that that was a dangerous assumption, and that I'd have more faith in his attempts if he had the skill to nail lies in real time--but he hasn't demonstrated that skill. I asked why not cut mics when they go off the rails, or interview, fact-check, edit and THEN broadcast.
Once those people find 2 seconds of live air time then they start their laundry list of propaganda points. They don't answer questions or provide education. It's all deflect and pivot to the propaganda. No one learns anything; its just noise and shout-outs to Trump's small base.
The who, what, where, when, why and how needs to be controlled by the interviewers--not guests looking for free airtime to push propaganda. Let them buy their own air time.
MSNBC has just started winning the ratings against Fox for a reason--they're providing information and context--not simply airing shouting matches, propaganda and chaos. CNN should be ashamed.

I agree- tape these shows AHEAD of time and fact check these assholes. All the lies and propaganda would STOP in its tracks. They can air the unedited version later so they aren't accused of playing favorites but these propagandists wouldn't have a platform or, god forbid, they would hae to actually tell the fucking truth if they were held accountable. No more LIVE panels or interviews unless their lies are going to be fact checked in real time.

Quoting myself here, with an additional thought: The country has New Gingrich to blame for this. When he hit the political scene the GOP began training every single member of the party to "talk like Newt"--to be bombastic, confrontational and to push the propaganda points regardless of the topic at hand.
They also gave every member a list of around 100 words that could be used to paint your "opponent" with negative connotations. Members were expected to work these words in to every single conversation, everywhere, all the time. Vile people.

Rick Santorum has a long record of anti-gay views, extreme even for much of the Republican party when he was running and serving in the Senate. I think the blonde crappy lawyer, and white-haired guy with a pompadour you refer to are the hateful Kayleigh McEnany, and Jeffrey Lord respectively.

Nicolle has been Independent for years now, she was disillusioned after Palin. Many/most of her guests are former Conservative thinkers too, *many* of them have evolved. No, I’m not defending them either, I’m only saying that I think a lot of them have woken up to the corruption and realize that the future of our country depends upon civil rights for ALL. R368 - I don’t think any of us doubt that junior will be indicted. Just think Avenatti was a little optimistic in his reading of the timeline. Still a way to go I suspect...
Think Avematti will end up a very curious footnote to all this mess when the histories are written. He kind of came from nowhere and had a white hot few minutes where he seemed to be everywhere, fighting the good fight and building a brand - even going to Iowa and looking into running for office himself...which seems to have been a huge overreach.
Found him kinda hot and was nice to see a counterpoint to the Cheeto at a time when it all seemed pretty hopeless and he and his corrupt regime was getting away with it all - but wonder how getting involved with in this mileau will affect Avenatti’s career and life in the long run. He seems to be copping a lot of smearing lately and had been de-fanged- but he can’t honestly believe that when challenging the masters of smear that he was going to escape unscathed himself - surely?
And as for presidential ambitions - hot tho he maybe - I certainly saw enough of the sideshow barker/famewhore going on there too - so that he’s the last person on earth I’d wanna see in that position. One is more than enough in any lifetime.

New acting Defense secretary on first day: I look forward to carrying out Trump's vision at Pentagon
*****
Trump named then-Deputy Defense Secretary Shanahan - a former Boeing executive with little government experience - as the acting Pentagon chief for the start of 2019.
Mattis wrote in his farewell memo on Monday that the Pentagon's civilian and military leadership remains "in the best possible hands."

R388 you're right up to a point. But I think the GOP leadership was giving him some ideas of who might be good choices for some key posts. I have this theory, that they GOP leadership i Congress were going to use him as their figurehead while they passed their heinous agenda. You're right, all seriously flwed people with whom I have fundamental disagreement. But I believe Mc Masters and Mattis were the best of the lot. I think they were put there to keep a check on Trump. Dan Coates too. Kelly was the pisser. He is a fucked up piece of shit. Ideologically not far apart from Trump. Mattis was not on the same page as Kelly or Trump. I think he was exhausted from fighting Trump and probably knew he was going to be fired so he quit and shit on the floor before he left. I like Mattis. I like him because he resigned and spoke out, whch none of them were willing to do. Mattis disagreed with Trump and said, "Fuck you."
by Anonymous | reply 391 | January 1, 2019 4:50 PM |
R386, I believe Mattis was talking about the guys in the field, the generals, etc. not the bureaucrats and whores like Shanahan. He is seriously so clueless and unprepared, he may just leave well enough alone....of course there's always Miz Lindsey to lend a hand here and a hand there.

Russian mob has been using Central American governments and fuel companies to launder money since at least 2010.
This is why Obama extended Mueller term in 2011
Remember Puerto Rico and how Zinke company of two people won enormous no-bid contracts for construction? That company was founded in 2015 by a Russian.
THIS is why Ecuador houses Assange at embassy.

by Anonymous | reply 442 | January 2, 2019 12:11 AM |
My impression is he is retired military, and he has gobs of contacts who are still active. I also agree that he *can’t* therefore reveal his sources and doesn’t want to constantly fight about it. He’s just sharing what he knows, take it or leave it.
I am giving some creedence to what his feed says strictly because I read sooooooo many other sources and what he is saying “fits” with the countless other sources that have shaped my opinions. I can’t vouch for him at all, but the fact that he continually says Bernie should be arrested and that he will NOT be shocked of it is revealed that AOC is a Russian chaos agent — I’m on the same page, I was already there before I read that feed.
What I found to be *highly* interesting is his assertion that in the military (I’m sure mid to upper brass is what he’s referring to), they are crystal clear that their oath is to protect us from enemies “both foreign and DOMESTIC” and that there is no longer a question within the military that Trump is a Domestic Enemy. He cites particularly when Trump spoke to the IC right after the Inauguration (remember that shit show) in front of the wall with names of the fallen, and then the Coast Guard shortly after, as the moment the IC felt affirmed that they had witnessed a coup. Again, I can’t verify any of this either, but based on the hundreds of hours of my reading, it just fits.
Time will tell.

Does the mystery of the missing Da vinci. Does "Salvator Mundi" hold the key to the Trump-Russia investigation?
. . .
[quote]But a far more significant meeting took place at Trump Tower three weeks later which has received far less coverage, and yet it may be the most important evidence of collusion Robert Mueller has uncovered. “The August event may well become “the single most important event of Trump-Russia.” Seth Abrahamson, author of “Proof of Collusion” told me this week. Erik Prince arranged the meeting. Prince is a mercenary who is notorious for his work with Blackwater. He is still a gun for hire working for the Chinese and Emiratis yet somehow, Prince still played a pivotal, yet unofficial role for the Trump Transition and coordinating this meeting was as significant as they come.
[quote]Prince planned to meet his guests at a nearby hotel to avoid the glare of the media assembled in Trump Tower’s gilded lobby.
[quote]You’re wondering who the guests were? George Nader, a Lebanese-American businessman who was acting as an emissary for both the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman (MbS) and the de facto leader of the UAE, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed (MbZ). Nader was accompanied by Joel Zamel, the Australian-born Israeli founder of Psy-Group, and an expert in social media manipulation.
[quote]As the three men made small talk, President Obama was on TV pleading with the Republican Party to reject Trump as their candidate, and calling him “unfit to serve.” Prince smiled and checked his watch. He knew Obama’s criticism would only strengthen Trump’s chances. “We have the green light to go up,” Prince told Nader and Zamel.
[quote]The three men made their way out of the hotel for the short walk to Trump Tower through rush-hour traffic, passed the media in the lobby and up to the 26th floor in one of those golden elevators. Donald Trump, Jr. was already in the conference room with Stephen Miller, when the three men walked in.
[quote]Nader began his pitch. The Saudi and Emirati princes “were eager to help your father win election as president,” Nader said. He said Zamel’s Psy Group was particularly successful at social media manipulation and the two crown princes would bankroll a multi-million dollar plan drawn up by Zamel, to help elect his father president.

It's pretty tepid criticism -- one might call it Flakeian -- but Trump struck back:
Here we go with Mitt Romney, but so fast! Question will be, is he a Flake? I hope not. Would much prefer that Mitt focus on Border Security and so many other things where he can be helpful. I won big, and he didn’t. He should be happy for all Republicans. Be a TEAM player & WIN!

I get pissed off at the mainstream media, especially CNN, when they decide their lead is that Romney wrote an op-ed that he himself will counter with his actions in support of this monster. Now they will spend the entire day exhausting this bullshit and ignoring important shit. IMO the story in the Washington Post about the way our national parks are being fucked up by the shut down is much more important. In fact it is merely one example. Why aren't they covering the real impact of the shut down. It crosses every single department of the federal government. Yes, employees who are working without pay, but also the fact that government agencies are not able to do what we need them to do. This is a huge story and the media has reduced it to a fucking contest with Trump vs. Pelosi. It is such bullshit. We need to start bombarding twitter with demands for coverage. The fact is, all of these budget items were approved by congress and are legal. To withhold funding because you're having a tantrum is illegal IMO. The union for federal workers is suing because of the working without pay thing, but there ought to be a lot of other groups suing because they are being denied legally approved resources. To quote Robert De Niro: Fuck Trump....and fuck Romney who will be this session's Flake.
by Anonymous | reply 477 | January 2, 2019 3:22 PM |
Romney's op ed is milquetoast and he's trying to see if there's room for him as a candidate in 2020. He still wants to be president. Trump didn't attack him very strongly, either.

Pelosi, Hoyer, Clyburn, Crowley, etc. are seasoned and smart politicians. Yes, they are old guard Democrats, but they know how to work the system. He even washed money through Wilbur Ross' Bank of Cyprus.
It is possible he bought he DaVinci from HIMSELF and gave a commission to the Saudi Bank and Prince. Half a trillion dollars washed through an auction house.
He is the guy who bought Trump's moldy mansion for twice what Trump paid only to tear it down. $100M vacant lot. And he traded and got some Trump Tower condos included in the bargain.

"The reason [gas] is way down and the reason it's way down is because I called up....some of the OPEC people. I say, 'DON'T DO IT.' You know, if you look back a few monts gasoline was at $83 a barrel. That was gonna be bad. It was going to $100. And some people saying $125, Rick. And I made calls. I said, 'YOU BETTER BETTER LET THATOILTHATGASOLINE FLOW.' And they did. And now it's down to $44. And I put out a...a...social media statement yesterday. I said. Do you think it's luck that [gas prices dropping] happened? You think it's luck? It's not luck. It's not luck. I called up certain people and I said, 'LET THAT DAMN OIL. AND GASOLINE. YOU LET IT FLOW. THE OIL.' It was going up to $125. If that would have happened then you would have had a recessiondepression like we've had in the past. When that happened."

About the names of the rumored 22 Senators about to be indicted for taking money from Russia - - -
You might want to start the list with those who, when confronted with Cohen’s admission last month that he and Trump had conspired to engage in criminal campaign finance activity, said:

Regarding the 22 Senators.....I wouldnt be surprised if it were true....REMEMBER...the Butina charging documents stated there are secret societies within the GOP that are aligned with Russia....and since then we've learned about all the money going to the GOP (McConnell, Graham, Gowdy, etc).
by Anonymous | reply 501 | January 2, 2019 8:11 PM |
Lindsey Graham on Fox Radio warned Romney about criticizing Trump. Romney is a peer to Graham in the Senate. Graham is not Romney's supervisor or handler. Romney knows Utah way been than Graham. Utah didn't elect Graham.
Graham has been scolding fellow Senators who complain about Trump or disagree with his agenda. Graham is not the Queen (in terms of ruling) of the Senate. The audacity he assumes is profound.
Something is being held over Graham for him to act so arrogantly with an immensely inflated self-perception of importance.

Just remember, after the ax falls, the numbers and scope will be so astounding that NO ONE will be asking any longer why it took Mueller “so long.” Our military and IC are not so easily bought as elected officials and they understand our very future is on the line. Justice is coming, this whole thing feels surreal but it really is happening. We’ve been infiltrated by an enemy and now have Domestic Enemies in many places of our federal government — and that’s coming to an end.

by Anonymous | reply 509 | January 2, 2019 8:39 PM |
You know, the problem as I see it is that yes, it's easy to believe, based on what we already know, that as many as 22 members of Congress have been compromised. But with the fucked up rulings on campaign financing, Citizens United, etc. it opened the flood gates for dark money and no accountability. There a re laws in place against accepting foreign money, but I suspect that some have al ready resigned and others will resign and get a slap on the wrist compared to what they deserve. I sincerely hope a few of them, like Nunes, Gowdy, McConnell and Ryan get their asses handed to them, but I don't think we will see 22 members of Congress indicted. They will be charged with misdemeanor crimes, and fined and we will run their asses out of town. it will be up to us. We will have to go after them with the hep of the media so they will be pariahs for the rest of their lives and live in disgrace. I'd love to see McConnell get his assets seized. Nunes too.

I get what you're saying and it wouldn't surprise me if that such a high number of politicians were caught up in this mess, but I don't think it's a realistic scenario that they are going to indict a quarter of the US Senate. Consider the resources that would take. Also, if 22 Senators are bad actors with this shit, how many Congress people are as well? And do you think these pols acted alone or is there staff also implicated? Not to mention that would leave vast swaths of the country unrepresented and the country a mess. I hate to say this but I fear they've created a situation of too big to fail.

I have to believe McConnell is going down along with his sycophants....he was told by Oboma, the FBI, and other IC agencies....and basically told them all to get bent.

My guess is that the Republican establishment has two plans. Plan #1: If Trump is forced out and Pence becomes president, Romney will step in as VP. Then if Pence is forced out, Romney is ready to go as President. Plan #2: The establishment is planning to primary Trump. I don't think that Romney is their chosen candidate, but he's helping to lay the groundwork. I think we'll see more and more criticism of Trump, culminating with the release of Mueller's report, and then McConnell will step in as the voice of "reason", explaining that Trump is too involved with legal battles and the party should find another candidate.

R531 the main elements of your theory are very plausible. IMO, Trump has a limited window to cut a deal and resign for a pardon from a President Pence. The longer he waits the more likely he and his family will actually get convicted of all kinds of state and federal shit and that's fine with me. Problem I have is that the GOP Congress has been so invested in him, propping him up even in the face of incredible incompetence, that they will never be able to escape the stench unless they turn on hi m completely. It will be interesting to see how McConnell and Graham handle it.

It isn't about a wall. It's about showing us how powerful he is. He is delighted at being the center of attention. Shutting down our government is weakening us. it is evil.It is harming people. When the fuck are members of Congress going to see through this charade and stop trying to negotiate with a maniac? Of course since you have extremists in Congress who also hate government, maybe they don't give a fuck. First you cut taxes to starve government then you shut it down. Privatize everything. R573 I posted that, and of course you’re right. But I’ve read on sources I trust that there are certain preliminary steps that have to be taken between the AG’s office and the SC’s office prior to the report release. And that through that process, on the AG side, it’s leaked that February is the window. Who the fuck knows.....but it also stuck in my head as I read from more than one source.

by Anonymous | reply 579 | January 3, 2019 3:59 AM |

R580, we can go back and forth. IF the leak is legit, it wasn’t from his team, and it indeed makes sense that there would be preliminary preparations between the two offices, so it isn’t an impossibility that someone within the AG leaked (to give people hope?) which is why my brain has entertained the thought. It doesn’t really matter because it’s going to happen when it happens, and it can’t come soon enough.
