It would be delicious if the next round of indictments were Republican members of Congress and not Jr, Erick and Vankie Pankie.

by Anonymousreply 10January 3, 2019 5:17 AM

LOOK at me.

LOOK AT ME!

LOOK! AT! ME!!!!

I will not be denied. Either you look at me or I will destroy the Democratic Party!

by Anonymousreply 11January 3, 2019 5:19 AM

If this business about 22 corrupt Senators is correct, itโ€™ll require widespread demonstrations by the public to make sure they donโ€™t sweep the whole thing under the rug. Because there will be a lot of pressure to do just that.

And I am telling you this now, so I donโ€™t have to tell you later.

by Anonymousreply 12January 3, 2019 5:20 AM

I wasn't sure if that was AOC or Sanders.

by Anonymousreply 13January 3, 2019 5:21 AM

Why can't you give me the respect that I'm entitled to.

Why can't you treat me like I would be treated by any progressive on the street?

Because I am NOT. ONE OF YOUR FAANS!

I think it's way more than just 22. How many of those fuckers took NRA money knowing it was from the Russians?

Goddam useless bag of shit rob Portman gobbles up every cent if that blood money he can get his grubby hands on but he wasn't on that list.

by Anonymousreply 22January 3, 2019 6:55 AM

Just knowing that Mueller can fuck with that two vote majority in the Senate will make me happy if this is anywhere close to being true.

Just know that bribery, extortion and blackmail is a big part of how Putin operates and is how he gets what he wants.

How many European politicians were in the Hapsburg group?

by Anonymousreply 26January 3, 2019 10:06 AM

So - the most surprising thing to me about the Cheeto over Christmas - is that he does appear to have stayed put in DC and not decamped to Florida. I know someone was saying there wasnโ€™t a marine stationed outside his door or whatever as if to prove heโ€™d gone - but surely if he had gone - we would have heard. And they flew his whore back from Florida - so it seems unlikely he managed to get there...?

So hereโ€™s the thing:

Will he refund the people who paid to have โ€˜presidential timeโ€™ with him there over the New Year? Or will they get invites to come again and a chance to see him later? Or did they just pay their money and took their chances - and now just have to suck up that itโ€™ll just be treated as a donation to the trump organisation now? Do you think any of them actually mind if this is the case? Or do they all have so much money that itโ€™s not even an issue - and theyโ€™ll probably somehow use it as a deduction next tax time?

Any thoughts?

by Anonymousreply 27January 3, 2019 10:24 AM

[quote] Will he refund the people who paid

tRump issuing a refund??? Ha!! Like that would ever happen. He's a "take the money and run" kinda crook.

by Anonymousreply 28January 3, 2019 10:57 AM

Someone needs to sit that Congresswoman down and tell her she has two choices: She can shut her fucking mouth and learn how to be an effective member of Congress and really do something for her district, accomplish something, or, she can keep being an attention whore, daily demonstrating to people how unsuitable she truly is in this job, and, like her mentor, Bernie Sanders, accomplish nothing. Does she think she won't be primaried if she gets too outrageous?Because the Democratic leadership is giving her some room to grandstand, but she is in for a very rude awakening.

R27, he sent Melania and there were other family members around. There are no refunds at Trump events.

by Anonymousreply 29January 3, 2019 11:00 AM

Nancy Pelosi said there is a possibility that special counsel Robert Mueller could indict President Donald Trump while he's still in office. Pelosi voiced the opinion in an NBC "Today" show interview broadcast on Thursday, hours before she is due to be confirmed as the speaker of the House of Representatives, a position she held from 2007-2011.

She said that Department of Justice guidelines, which say that a sitting president should not be indicted, are not "conclusive."

When asked about the guidelines by "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie, Pelosi said: " I do not think that that is conclusive. No I do not."

Republicans win because they have discipline in the ranks. Republicans would not tolerate an upstart like AOC for a second and would hand her her ass in a basket if she tried any of the bullshit AOC is trying to pull now. Why do Democrats put up with this crap?

Pelosi is deeply stupid, flip side of the Trump coin. Your country is doomed. Consequently, so is ours ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

by Anonymousreply 40January 3, 2019 1:58 PM

R40, youโ€™re no more Canadian than I am from Kazakhstan.

by Anonymousreply 41January 3, 2019 2:00 PM

R25 I am no troll. The stupid poster I was going back and forth with (you perhaps?) couldnโ€™t understand what I was saying. You donโ€™t own these threads bitch, most of us have been here since the beginning.

by Anonymousreply 42January 3, 2019 2:01 PM

How is Pelosi stupid? Have you seen her speak? Her IQ is clearly very high. Examine her sentence structure. It's clearly indicative of high IQ.

[quote] Let me say this: What the President is representing in terms of his cards over there are not factual. We have to have to an evidence-based conversation about what does work, what money has been spent, and how effective it is. ... This is about the security of our country. We take an oath to protect and defend, and we donโ€™t want to have that mischaracterized by anyone. ... So let us have a conversation where we donโ€™t have to contradict, in public, the statistics that you put forth but instead can have a conversation about what would really work and what the American people deserve from us at this uncertain time in their lives, where they have apprehension.

by Anonymousreply 44January 3, 2019 2:06 PM

R35 I thought the swearing in was at noon EST.

by Anonymousreply 45January 3, 2019 2:07 PM

Um r44, if r25 is the OP, and I donโ€™t care enough to check, then thatโ€™s great because my response at r5 shows what I really think of OP.

R46, I was told to fuck off, so I think calling someone stupid is no biggie. All we were arguing about is if Mueller leaks and my point was we both agree he DOES NOT. Again, Iโ€™ve been here the whole time, so maybe it would be a better use if your energy to save it for real trolls and not someone there was a stupid bitch fight with. Or keep attacking people here who contribute to these threads? I donโ€™t give a fuck honey, do what you want to as will I.

Carry on.

by Anonymousreply 49January 3, 2019 2:14 PM

Anyone else find it odd that Seth Abramson hasn't said a word since 12/31?

by Anonymousreply 50January 3, 2019 2:14 PM

by Anonymousreply 51January 3, 2019 2:14 PM

Nope, R49.

[quote] Or keep attacking people here who contribute to these threads? I donโ€™t give a fuck honey, do what you want to as will I.

Which is what you did. And you apparently do care as you responded each time.

You called someone stupid that disagreed with you - not the person that told you to fuck off. And again, the disagreement wasn't that anyone in Mueller's camp leaks it was anyone who has any dealings with what Mueller submits leaks.

So if you're going to call someone stupid than you should probably make sure you're referencing the right thing/person.

by Anonymousreply 57January 3, 2019 2:20 PM

R52, the argument was that it was possible the leak came out of the AGโ€™s office. And you couldnโ€™t accept that that is a possibility. Thatโ€™s it!!! So youโ€™ve started a huge thing over the fact that you donโ€™t think thatโ€™s possible. Holy shit, are you doing cocaine?????

I care enough to respond, thatโ€™s how these โ€œboardsโ€ work. Iโ€™m saying I donโ€™t give a fuck if you want to go back and forth with me all god damn day, THAT is what I donโ€™t give a fuck about, get it now? All thatโ€™s going to happen is you and I will shit all over the thread. I donโ€™t want to do that. But if you keep challenging me in an effort to have the last word, you might actually (gasp!) get a response from me. So go ahead again.....I know you need to quote me and dissect.

by Anonymousreply 58January 3, 2019 2:23 PM

"When you're negotiating with someone, you have to knowโ€” you stipulate to some fact. It's hard to do that with the president, because he resists science, evidence, data, truthโ€ฆ It's hard to pin the president down on the facts."

by Anonymousreply 59January 3, 2019 2:24 PM

R58, no you're on crack because you keep thinking that you're talking to ONE person. I am not the one that even responded to ANY of the posts talking about February so I'm not someone that "couldn't accept the possibility..." And further, the people who WERE responding didn't say they "couldn't accept the possibility," they stated they didn't agree.

by Anonymousreply 60January 3, 2019 2:25 PM

And if you are OP, this is even more a shame because obviously we are on the same side lolololol! I live on these threads, Iโ€™m here to share and mostly read! Not fight. Fuck I havenโ€™t even had my coffee yet. Here is my olive branch โ€” I have no vested interest in a month or a leak or anything of that sort, so if my posting made you feel trolled, I sincerely apology. That was NOT my intention.

by Anonymousreply 67January 3, 2019 2:31 PM

I am currently imagining that the fighting posters on this thread are (R) House members with nothing else to do today.

by Anonymousreply 68January 3, 2019 2:32 PM

Romney is being a speculator again, putting in a stake early in the game, and seeing how things turn out for Trump. If Trump's approval plummets and the GOP starts to disapprove of him, Romney can show he was among the first to make a clear stand.

Rudy Giuliani, tweeting last night:

According to CNN witches favor Democrats and they are offended that the Meuller investigation is described as a Witch Hunt. There is no reason for the witches to be offended because Witch Hunt derives from, for example, the Salem Witch Hunts where people were executed unjustly.

The Trump administration is considering a far-reaching rollback of civil rights law that would dilute federal rules against discrimination in education, housing and other aspects of American life, people familiar with the discussions said.

A recent internal Justice Department memo directed senior civil rights officials to examine how decades-old โ€œdisparate impactโ€ regulations might be changed or removed in their areas of expertise, and what the impact might be, according to people familiar with the matter. Similar action is being considered at the Education Department and is underway at the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Civil rights advocates said diminishing this tool could have sweeping consequences.

by Anonymousreply 87January 3, 2019 3:12 PM

R87, the tactics of a true sociopath.

Since Speaker Pelosi knows the language to use with a sociopath, it looks like she's done her psychological research. I take heart in all her new hires. It looks like they are planning to meet him on multiple fronts.

Usually victims get so exhausted and confused that they shut down. As we've seen in these very threads, being able to take a break to refresh--while others step in to carry on--is a luxury most victims don't have. It is important that anyone going up against someone like Trump knows what they're dealing with. Hillary had his number, but would not go for the jugular.

Speaker Pelosi will.

[quote] Republicans would not tolerate an upstart like AOC for a second and would hand her her ass in a basket if she tried any of the bullshit AOC is trying to pull now. Why do Democrats put up with this crap?

Yes, let's be envious of the Republican party where everyone knows their leader is a traitor and a huge detriment to their future, but no one says anything because their rulers wouldn't be happy.

[quote] Someone needs to sit that Congresswoman down and tell her she has two choices: She can shut her fucking mouth and learn how to be an effective member of Congress and really do something for her district, accomplish something, or, she can keep being an attention whore, daily demonstrating to people how unsuitable she truly is in this job, and, like her mentor, Bernie Sanders, accomplish nothing. Does she think she won't be primaried if she gets too outrageous?Because the Democratic leadership is giving her some room to grandstand, but she is in for a very rude awakening.

Ocasio-Cortez is my congress person. I hate to break this to you but Ocasio-Cortez doesn't owe Nancy Pelosi or you anything. When people in our district voted for her it was not because they hoped she'd quietly tow the party line and maybe in twenty years she'd get to play a bigger role. She's doing exactly what she was sent to Washington to do. And as for this mythical Democrat leadership stepping in to primary her? How is that going to work? The national DNC as well as the vaulted party machine couldn't even save Joe Crowley after twenty years of fealty.

by Anonymousreply 89January 3, 2019 3:50 PM

And right now, r89, she is one of 237 Democratic Congresspeople.

In order to not be a flash in the pan, she needs to keep the focus on her.

We will see how that goes, won't we?

by Anonymousreply 90January 3, 2019 4:00 PM

Yes, R88, hopefully Nancy will accomplish a lot as long as someone like Ocasio-Cortez doesn't stab her in the back first.

R89, how would you like it if some dumb ass recent college grad with no real world experience came to your job and started telling you how to do your work. This is what AOC is trying to do. Nancy has more knowledge of politics and the ins and outs of DC and how to get things done in one of her finger nails than AOC has in her entire body. I love when AOC trades barbs with Republicans, but she needs to can it with the internecine warfare.

"She's doing exactly what she was sent to Washington to do"

And that job is to split the Democratic party into two separate factions, and if she doesn't get her way she'll take all her marbles and her supporters and go home? Sounds like a sound plan to me!

by Anonymousreply 98January 3, 2019 4:48 PM

Hey, asshole at R93: if you think for one minute that AOC is going to make a difference in your life or the lives of any of her other constituents just because she got elected to congress, you really are stupider than a box of rocks. Any progressive action she attempts to take will be thwarted by Trump and the Republican led Senate, so she's just tilting at windmills at this point if she thinks any of her progressive platform is going anywhere.

AOC's main job, and every other Democrat/Progressive is to present a united front to the Republicans, and work to get Trump out of office before he does any more damage, then effectively neuter the Republican party so it dies a slow, painful death. Sniping at Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats is a sure fire recipe for disaster, but by all means, if you're satisfied with the status quo, carry on.

Oh, and R71, go fuck yourself.

by Anonymousreply 102January 3, 2019 5:02 PM

R100 here. Not going to keep this going, but please keep in mind that one of the major reasons we have Trump right now is the Democratic party ordained a candidate that did not excite a lot of their voters and was an anathema to GOP voters . And every time we said "hey what about our views" we were told to shut up and vote. A lot of us did. I certainly did. Please consider that when you keep advocating that AOC shuts up and toes the party line.

Any "news" relating to AOC or any of the progressives trying to "undermine" Pelosi or the Dem party needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt. Yesterday there was a push on the Part 71 thread to spread the word that the progressive caucus was going to kill Pelosi's paygo rules. Once again, it's all overblown. The dispute is one over strategy, not substance, and it's not that big a dispute anyway since the progressive caucus isn't trying to whip votes against Pelosi and has already accepted her word that she won't let the rule impeded progressive legislation. The real problem is a LAW that is beyond mere House rules. The people voting against Pelosi's rule package are repping the wishes of their deep-blue districts and they're not actually undermining anything. WHICH PELOSI HAS ALWAYS BEEN DOWN FOR. Pelosi is known for telling fellow Dems to turn on her if needed to win.

Remember: major media has a preexisting narrative about Dems that it pushes regardless of reality. Dems are always losing, weak, in crisis or infighting. You NEVER get this kind of obsessive CRISIS! coverage when some tea party idiots from deep red districts sandbag popular bipartisan deals. McConnell does it all the time and gets begrudging praise for his brilliant "leadership."

The whole AOC is an idiot/child/etc. narrative is wingnut trolling. She's green (in terms of experience as well as her politics) but she's not stupid. She has media savvy and good instincts. That will carry her as she learns what she needs to know.

GOP men who can't do math (Ryan), who think the internet is a series of tubes (Stevens), and who don't understand female anatomy (pretty much all of them) are heralded as "policy wonks," head committees on science and technology, and are taken seriously about their feelings on abortion and rape. by Anonymousreply 149January 3, 2019 8:28 PM

Reminder: Pelosi was AOC before AOC.

"A showdown over the House majority leader's post today has Democrats bitterly divided only a week after their party took control of Congress and has prompted numerous complaints that Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and her allies are using strong-arm tactics and threats to try to elect Rep. John P. Murtha (Pa.) to the job.

Murtha, 74, a former Marine who was among the first on Capitol Hill to call for a U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq, may have hurt his own chances Tuesday night when he derided the Democrats' ethics and lobbying package before saying he will push for its passage anyway out of deference to Pelosi. His statement, at a gathering of conservative "Blue Dog" Democrats, was cited by backers of his rival, Rep. Steny H. Hoyer (Md.), as further proof that Murtha's controversial ethics record disqualifies him to lead the party in a new political era."

Gardner is the first Senate Republican to call for ending the partial shutdown even without a deal on President Trumpโ€™s demand for $5 billion to fund a border wall.

I read all of this one and was deeply unimpressed and sorry for the time I wasted. But my question was sincere. If people think previous Mueller threads were actually worthwhile, and not just a lot of silly bickering and people creaming themselves over the supposed cleverness of the thread titles, I may take the trouble to go back and browse some of them.

by Anonymousreply 171January 3, 2019 9:41 PM

So... you're unimpressed with a less-than-a-day-old Part SEVENTY TWO of a thread series about the Mueller investigation that started on a day with little to no publicized Mueller activity. And have to ask whether it might be worth browsing any of the other ones.

You don't seem too sharp, R171. Either those prior SEVENTY ONE threads must have something of substance for this topic to keep going so long, or... the people contributing to them are just keeping "silly bickering and people creaming themselves" alive. So why would you ask those very same people if the other threads were worth your time?

What motivates Chief Justice Roberts to reach down, only a couple of days before Christmas, into the mass of cases which await a decision on certiorari, to pluck the one where an unnnamed bank (Deutsche Bank is the best guess) is asking to be exempt from a Office of Special Counsel subpoena?

Four rulings from both US District courts and US Court of Appeals denied the requests of this bank.

Well? Hmmm?

These threads remind me of crazy Laofalang from the old ATKOL boards, off meds and going off the liberal deep end. Hysterical.

by Anonymousreply 190January 3, 2019 11:39 PM

I feel safe again. We made to January third and we have both Pelosi and Mueller.

by Anonymousreply 191January 3, 2019 11:43 PM

R175: If Pelosi knew that their were enough votes in the senate for impeachment, she would bring the vote tomorrow. She's waiting for more ammunition from oversight and from Mueller, If there's enough overwhelming evidence, some of the repubs in the senate may think about jumping off the titanic.

I mostly agree but think Nancy will wait for the Mueller report because, if she acted before then, a lot of people will call it a coup. There has to be a revelation to the public of the high crimes committed by Trump, with he kind of evidence that most people will find convincing. Once she has more of the Public behind her, she will act.

by Anonymousreply 192January 3, 2019 11:43 PM

I agree, she needs to wait for Mueller's report. I just hope trump stays alive long enough to be held accountable.

by Anonymousreply 193January 3, 2019 11:45 PM

The only person who seems hysterical is you r189. Do you think we can't see you for what you are? Of course you are hysterical, you see your criminal heroes are going to be indicted and it upsets you. Most of us recognize the truth.

The thing is, Republicans have shown themselves for what they really are. Only the worst humans will support them now.

Trump will live a long life...he is filth and filth just goes on and on. He should go to prison but who will send him there.

by Anonymousreply 200January 4, 2019 12:05 AM

Thank You, r198.

by Anonymousreply 201January 4, 2019 12:05 AM

From the article at R198:

So, from the D.C. Circuit's decision we learned that a foreign government was actively involved in blocking Muellerโ€™s investigation. That fact is intriguing enough. In the ordinary course, that should have been the end of it. The state-owned Corporation filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, which receives roughly 7,000 petitions a year but acts in fewer than 200 of them. There was unanimity below โ€” all four judges (the District Court judge and the three Circuit Court judges) had agreed that the Corporation and Country Aโ€™s legal claims of sovereign immunity and of contrary foreign law were without merit. There was little reason for judicial watchers to expect anything beyond a quiet return to the grand jury and further proceedings there. We headed off for the holidays.

And then came Robertsโ€™ surprise Sunday decision. He is the โ€œcircuit justiceโ€ for the D.C. Circuit, meaning he is the justice assigned to receive emergency and other petitions arising from that circuit. Under Supreme Court rules, the circuit justice may act without consulting his or her colleagues to dispose of routine rulings. So, we should not read too much into the fact that it is the chief justice in particular who acted here.

But we can read a good deal into his decision to intervene at all. Although every judge below agreed there was ultimately no merit to the Corporationโ€™s legal claims, Roberts evidently harbors some doubt. Something in the Corporationโ€™s papers caught his attention. So rather than consigning this appeal to the discard pile with thousands of others, he has blocked the lower courtsโ€™ decisions until he can receive the governmentโ€™s briefs defending those decisions. Those papers must be filed no later than New Yearโ€™s Eve. Once he receives the full briefing, he can reject the Corporationโ€™s appeal or he can advance the matter to the full court for consideration.

Until then, we can only wonder at the remarkable circumstance that the chief justice of the United States has personally intervened, at the request of a foreign government through its corporate entity, in Muellerโ€™s investigation. Only two days before, court observers noted that in a high-profile asylum decision, Roberts had sided with his four liberal colleagues against the Trump administration. Many observers took that as evidence that Roberts was carefully seeking to preserve the courtโ€™s institutional neutrality, integrity and balance.

What are we to make of his pre-Christmas intervention on behalf of Country A and the Corporation, and against Muellerโ€™s office? We may know soon. Muellerโ€™s office filed its submission early, on Friday evening. Weโ€™ll keep our eyes glued to the docket.

by Anonymousreply 216January 4, 2019 2:06 AM

I heard that on Mueller, she wrote, r216.

Interesting theory but I doubt fat Donnie thinks that strategically.

by Anonymousreply 217January 4, 2019 2:11 AM

Regarding Justice Roberts intervention in the secret case....Some of you, reporters included, are way over thinking this.

1. Roberts did not out of the blue decide to intervene in the case. He is the Justice that oversees the DC Circuit.

2. The mystery corporation lost the last round at the Circuit and THEY APPEALED TO THE SC. It is standard procedure.

3. Roberts will either let the Circuit decision stand, or he will refer the matter for the full court.

I think that you may have it a bit confused. The shutdown will not stop the criminal cases from going forward. Mueller's office is exempt (as are almost all federal criminal prosecutors). The shutdown has, however, stopped any of the Trump civil lawsuits from going forward (like the Emoluments Clause case) because the Justice Department's civil attorneys are furloughed and not exempt from the shutdown.

The emoluments case despite being a civil case is actually really important imho because;

1) There is settled law that the President can be the subject of civil prosecution.

2) Itโ€™s very specifically an activity a sitting President is not allowed to as per the constitution. As such a finding against could lay the groundwork for impeachment charges in a way that would be appealing to people who take the view that the President is generally above the law.

I'm R229, thought the Autocorrect was funny and said so. Period. Currently I don't have anyone blocked, and made that post from my cell phone while reading in bed. It was late, it struck me as funny, and I posted with good intention and in good faith.

I also witnessed the AOC trolls talking to themselves yesterday, and appreciate your efforts to keep these boards clean. I also try and do my part. In fact yesterday when we were swirling a bit I posted at R181 to try and get somewhat back on topic.

So no harm, no foul--but you are mistaken if you think I'm engaging in the troll tactics you have loosely attached to me and my post.

by Anonymousreply 264January 4, 2019 2:59 PM

It is my fervent hope that when Donald leaves us he will be oined at the hip to Vladimir Putin in the 9th circle of Hell. I keep thinking about the fact that the two of them obviously talk regularly and I have to laugh. Can you imagine Vlad, now one of the wealthiest men in the world, with all that power, and he is consigned to working his main asset, Donald, by playing psychotherapist to him on the regular. Constant exposure to Donald's thoughts and ruminations might drive Putin insane. He may even get suicided. LOL!

by Anonymousreply 265January 4, 2019 3:01 PM

Yeah, I forgot to mention that when you check some of the past posts of these trolls, look at the pattern. We talked long ago that one of the new troll tactics was to make themselves look like, "regulars." They post slightly on topic, a few comments here and there that look like they're participating in the conversation -- but if you actually read their posts, they have nothing to do with any actual topic being discussed. Generic posts that quickly devolve into talking about breasts and trolling.

How do you impeach a president who has won perhaps the greatest election of all time, done nothing wrong (no Collusion with Russia, it was the Dems that Colluded), had the most successful first two years of any president, and is the most popular Republican in party history 93%?

Former RNC chairman Michael Steele in response:

Itโ€™s what a master manipulator does. If the impeachment trigger gets pulled weโ€™ll question its legitimacy. After all, impeachment is another partisan act weaponized by Democrats to undermine his โ€œsuccessโ€. In short: heโ€™s reminding us what to think about the idea of impeaching him

R342 that's a less covered topic. Trump is ADDICTED to fame and attention. He's so insecure and needy that he doesn't feel important if he's not being talked about. Yes he's a puppet of Putin etc but another major factor in him running for President was the fantasy that he'd be the center of attention 24/7. Now he's got what he wanted. He loves attention and the dumb networks keep giving it to him. We don't need to see him babbling nonsense and insulting people while displaying arrogant ignorance on every topic. He is a sick man who should have gotten psychiatric help decades ago

by Anonymousreply 352January 4, 2019 7:05 PM

[quote][R342] that's a less covered topic. Trump is ADDICTED to fame and attention.

I'd hardly call it a "less-covered" topic, but yeah, Trump is a huge attention whore. Right now, I'm sure it's driving him crazy that Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic freshmen in Congress are getting so much attention, so of course he has to put his fat, orange ass on TV.

Think about that for awhile.

by Anonymousreply 354January 4, 2019 7:17 PM

Many celebs suffer from this need for attention because they know they're not that intelligent or talented and have lied about their accomplishments. Starting in the 80s is when it became more "acceptable" to be famous for negative reasons which is coincidentally when Trump started being known nationally. Trump and others like him of course prefer positive attention but they'll take negative too as long as it means they're being talked about. People who are happy with themselves and their lives do not act this way.

Mueller grand jury gets 6 month extension

Washington (CNN)Special counsel Robert Mueller's federal grand jury has been extended by six months.

The grand jury, based in Washington, DC, was seated for an 18-month term that began in July 2017 and was set to expire in the coming days. Under federal rules, the court is able to extend a grand jury's term for another six months if it is "in the public interest." Chief Judge Beryl Howell of the DC District Court, who oversees the Mueller grand jury, granted the extension. She does not sit in on its sessions. This story is breaking and will be updated.

George Conway and Kellyanne know the dirt on DJT. Kellyanne is tied to the Mercers. Trump used Junior and Eric to troll George Conway, but they are nitwits not in George's league. George and Kellyanne can say whatever they want, when they want, as long as Kellyanne doesn't attack Trump before the cameras and does her spin and deflection routines. And note, Kellyanne, as a senior advisor, gets lofty, regular paychecks from the government with good benefits. Plus, she is building her exposure for Republican clientele for her polling and consulting business when she leaves her government job. Her speaking fees will shoot up along with a new book deal.

Are extensions automatically six months or did he specifically ask for six?

So Congressional investigations are going to get their day in the sun. Will be interesting. Will subpoenas get the job done and who will fight them?

by Anonymousreply 380January 4, 2019 9:42 PM

I think the bigger question is how to force them to submit to subpoenas when they refuse โ€” and they will. Iโ€™ve heard this mentioned in these threads, but canโ€™t remember. Letโ€™s say, the XXX Committee subpoenas Trumpโ€™s tax records. He refuses. Then what happens?

by Anonymousreply 381January 4, 2019 10:41 PM

A subpoena is issued by the the Court. If refused, the judge has a couple options, but basically Individual -1 can be compelled to comply, either by fines or jail time. He won't be getting out of handing over his taxes. The Orange Idiot has it on public record that he would show his taxes. Now he doesn't want to. The Judge will ask him why he won't. His answer may indict himself as well!

Trump is really stupid to do all his tweeting and giving his dumb opinions. If you want to do well in court you really don't want written or taped record of anything shady. It's all his own doing and he can't stop himself and he has the worst personal attorney giving bad advice.

by Anonymousreply 382January 4, 2019 11:01 PM

I do find it even more interesting when there are claims that anyone saying they don't like AOC is a misogynist and the same people then bash and make up lies about HRC... but that's not misogynistic?

by Anonymousreply 394January 5, 2019 12:47 AM

The news media must challenge him. There are not two sides to this. There is no threat to our southern border. This needs to be emphasized. It is not a matter of opinion. It is a fact. There are no terrorists flooding our country at this time. The only terrorists are in the fucking White House. Trump and his enablers. IMO he's manufactured this crisis and has been heading down this road for many months. He wants to declare an emergency. That's where this is going. He has been saying this and attempting it for months and months. Jennifer Rubin wrote a column in the Post that made so much sense. She said if only four or five Senators Republicans, told McConnell they would approve nothing, and give him no support until he brought the Budget reauthorization to the floor for a vote, they could force him to do his job. They'd also have enough votes to override a Presidential veto. Trump has demonstrated he is perfectly happy violating the Constitution. He isn't inventing this by himself. He is being guided in this. Advised. He has a natural inclination towards authoritarianism, but he wouldn't have the sense to figure out how to get there. We are in a crisis right now and Pelosi isn't going to get us out by herself. She is a strong leader and she has massive support, but the fucking Republicans in the Senate hold the key right now and they absolutely must step up.

by Anonymousreply 419January 5, 2019 12:18 PM

So, the grand jury has been extended for 6 months. That's too late to help any Republicans who want to primary Trump. I think they would need to announce by June at the latest. How does that change the Republican establishment's game plan?

by Anonymousreply 420January 5, 2019 12:23 PM

Well if they let that motherfucker declare an emergency we'll be the ones squirming. He needs to be stopped right now. The crisis they keep claiming is around the corner, has arrived. The whole "If he does X then blah blah blah..." is over. It's here. It's right now.

by Anonymousreply 421January 5, 2019 12:23 PM

[quote]I know this is just a regrouping of the blue army and we are gearing up for the real battle but I feel more hopeful now than I have in the last 3 years.

I don't think I'm hopeful, but I am relieved. Things aren't going to get better, but at least they should stop getting worse.

I also think we're much more likely to get an impeachment this time. There was no way they were going to try GWB because they wouldn't get a conviction, but there seem to be enough GOP Senators whose corporate overlords are sick of Trump to get to 67 this time.

by Anonymousreply 422January 5, 2019 1:26 PM

Six months is routinely how much a grand jury is extended. It means nothing in terms of where the case is, other than there is at least a short-term need for it to continue its work (e.g., possible additional indictments).

by Anonymousreply 423January 5, 2019 1:41 PM

Jeffrey Toobin was on yesterday with Wolf, and they discussed the whole "emergency" thing and he said legally it gets very crazy, that the courts may not be able to do anything to stop him on legal grounds, and honestly, the court would probably rule cautiously on any matter where national security is invoked. I found that very scary. They can't keep waiting until the next worse thing happens. They need to act now. I understand the unions are suing him because workers are being forced to work without pay. I don't know if that goes anywhere, but the fucking government needs to open.

by Anonymousreply 426January 5, 2019 2:49 PM

[quote]legally it gets very crazy,

It certainly does. I haven't seen anyone discuss yet the fact that the budget funds appropriated to government agencies each year can't be used for some other purpose. I guarantee the Defense Department received no authorizations to build walls. The defense appropriations bill passed in September for the fiscal year we're in right now is a fucking LAW, signed by the Fake President, with specific language about how it the defense budget is to be spent.

Once plane flights are grounded and IRS refunds canceled they'll reopen.

by Anonymousreply 429January 5, 2019 3:02 PM

I never thought I'd say this, but bless the TSA. If their refusal to work is creating more urgency and necessity for the government to reopen, not to mention the IRS factor, then we'll really have something which trumps (sorry for the pun) a phony national emergency.

Let us know how calling the White House goes. It is closed. Its budget is one of the ones that has not been passed.

I say EVERY DAY the House should send the Senate the same fucking bill the Senate approved 100-0 two weeks ago . . . with one difference.

Each day, there should be $1 million less appropriated in the General Services bill for the White House operations.

The daily bill going to the Senate will put the pressure on the remaining half-dozen Republican Senators in their home states that need to jump ship. Then send it to Individual-1, let him veto, and then Congress will override the veto because by then 70% of voters will have had sufficient of this circus.

by Anonymousreply 433January 5, 2019 3:34 PM

I like your style r433

by Anonymousreply 434January 5, 2019 3:39 PM

Thanks, R427 it has been mentioned on MSNBC, but it hasn't been highlighted nearly enough. There is also something else to consider. Since the moneys have been appropriated and the spending bills signed into law, it is illegal to block these funds and prevent programs already approved by Congress from being implemented. There have been other instances when a POTUS has refused to spend money allocated for something he disagreed with and he has been taken to court by 3rd parties with an interest. I guess we need one of our government experts to discuss this intelligently, but we have to be more aggressive with this turd. We have to stop him now. And honestly all his bullshit in the rose garden runs completely counter to the facts. The main thing is that we have to have a sense of urgency about this. And I think pressuring some of the GOP Senators to withhold their votes from McConnell until he puts this to a vote is the way to go. We need to find out which Senators are waivering and pressure them....even Susan Collins.... I know. But I think at this point we need to stop running to the WH to negotiate. He is loving that spectacle and it makes us look like supplicants. I think we need to isolate him and shift attention to McConnell and the Senate. THose fuckers passed a bill just before Christmas with 90 votes. Bi-partisan. Pelosi got the House to vote...again...bi-partisan... on the same fucking legislation yesterday and the Senate rejects it? Bullshit. Fuck Trump. Let's go after McConnell by robbing him of his power to deliver votes.

He can't just "declare a national emergency."

[quote]An Act to terminate certain authorities with respect to national emergencies still in effect, and to provide for orderly implementation and termination of future national emergencies.

The National Emergencies Act (Pub.L. 94โ€“412, 90 Stat. 1255, enacted September 14, 1976, codified at 50 U.S.C. ยง 1601-1651) is a United States federal law passed to stop open-ended states of national emergency and formalize the power of Congress to provide certain checks and balances on the emergency powers of the President.

The Act of Congress imposes certain procedural formalities on the President when invoking such powers. The perceived need for the law arose from the scope and number of laws granting special powers to the executive in times of national emergency.

The H.R. 3884 legislation was passed by the 94th United States Congress and signed by the 38th President of the United States Gerald R. Ford on September 14, 1976.

A federal judge has ruled that the $350 million misconduct lawsuit, filed by Trump ally Jerome Corsi against Robert Mueller, will move forward.

On Thursday, Judge Richard Leon ordered Corsi's case against Mueller to be randomly assigned to another judge. Corsi, a longtime associate of former Trump campaign advisor Roger Stone, is suing Mueller, the Justice Department, and others, for $350m over prosecutorial misconduct, leaking confidential information to press, and unconstitutional surveillance.

[quote] R415: [R412] here. OOops, my bad. Well, then maybe they should not allow congress to go home until they hammer out some kind of deal. Lock them in

I think it went about this:

1. Trump says he would sign a particular bill on the topic.

2. The House passes the bill.

3. The Senate passes the bill by voice vote, meaning is was so o erwhelming that a recorded vote was not necessary.

4. Trump is ridiculed by Limbaugh and Colter

5. Trump renegs on signing the bill, and demands funding for his wall.

So, Congress did pass a bill, OP. It was Trump who changed his mind and took โ€œthe mantleโ€. As Nancy said, you canโ€™t negotiate with someone with whom you canโ€™t even agree on the most basic, fundamental things. Likewise, Trump is a โ€œdeal makerโ€ who canโ€™t take โ€œyesโ€ for an answer. If an agreement is too quickly made, or his opponent is too happy with it, he concludes that he gave away too much, and therefore wants to renegotiate.

I havenโ€™t read the Art of the Deal, so I donโ€™t know if he addressed this, but one negating tactic it to agree to something, and then after the other side expends energy getting stake holders to support the agreement; you then make new demands. You keep at this until the other side gets exhausted and agrees to the newer demands just to get it over with.

Hitler used this negotiating ploy when negotiating over Czechoslovakia. He also prohibited any smoking while negotiating. The Czech leader was a smoker, and after a long session without a cigarette, he made concessions to surrender Czech lands.

I think the next two years are really going to swing on what the media decides to do. They will shape the narrative. Right now, their ratings are coming from the excitement of the new Dems taking over the House and Trump being fucking evil. As 2020 approaches, we'll see if there's a subtle shift toward:

"Looks like the Dems aren't being very effective."

"The Dems are being obstructionist."

"Trump seems to have mellowed a bit."

"Where's Mueller's report, anyway?"

"We've been attacked, so must stand behind the president."

They've done it before and I'm not sure the American electorate is any smarter now than they were with Shrub.

by Anonymousreply 470January 6, 2019 12:30 AM

Since Pelosi is a brilliant strategist when it comes to working the multiple factions in the party, I wouldn't put it past her to have the plan be to let the younger, progressive members mouth off and say the things the people want to hear while the older, experienced legislators gently chastise them publicly but support them 100% behind the scenes. It's the best of both worlds. The attacks get out there but the Dems still get to be the party of serious grown-ups doing the nation's business.

Pelosi's answer about that Congresswoman saying "We are going to impeach that motherfucker!" was basically, "Oh, those kids today! Now, let's get back to fixing this mess." It was perfect and played great in the media on both sides. Brilliant.

I wonder what would happen if Schumer and Pelosi simply announced that Mr. Trump doesn't really understand how to negotiate, the need to re open our government is urgent, so we are not going to continue to waste time with Mr. Trump. We will instead focus our attention on working with the members of the United States Senate to do our job and try to get this resolved. Isolate that motherfucker. Stop going to the White House to try to reason with him. The rules do not apply to Trump. So isolate him and deal him out of the plan. There are some members of the GOP Senate who are ready to peel off and vote. Work on that. Pressure them and force the media to focus on McConnell. Don't let McConnell escape responsibility. Sideline Trump. Show him things will get done without him.

R480 McConnell refuses to bring a budget propsosal to the Senate floor unless Trump endorses it.

Both chambers could agree on something now. Approve it. If Trump vetos it, they should try to override it.

by Anonymousreply 482January 6, 2019 12:45 PM

No, I think he signed something else to either extend or augment the contractors who are "housing" the kids who are asylum seekers. There are something like 14,000 kids living in tents in Texas and contractors run those. In fact there are a lot of sub contractors working with the DHS. There has been no oversight of any of the contractors in any of the departments and that is what the House committees are going to get busy on. There is no way they won't find corruption. I think the Evangelicals and a lot of his MAGAs are getting contracts.

by Anonymousreply 483January 6, 2019 12:45 PM

Pelosi is already there R480.

Sheโ€™s planning to pass bills opening each of the agencies (which the Senate previously voted to do) one-by-one, starting with Treasury and IRS.

If the Republican Senate now refuses to pass unless they get Dotardโ€™s wall, let them tell constituents they are withholding IRS refunds from the public in order to satisfy Trumpโ€™s whim.

by Anonymousreply 484January 6, 2019 12:46 PM

[quote]It is obvious that Trump stands to gain monetarily for the wall.

by Anonymousreply 485January 6, 2019 12:55 PM

What if all these bills fail, 484. If McConnell is implacable, refuses to work with her, and simply ignores her attempts, Pelosi will be the one the media focuses on to say, " it's not working. Pelosi can't get it done." It's perverse and wrong, but that may be part of Trump's strategy. Make her look ineffective. That's why, IMO the Democrats in Congress need to outsmart the Republicans and shift the focus to McConnell. Because the Conservative media, McConnell, Trump etc are going to try to put this on her. We know that's ridiculous, but Trump's base will eat it up. I'm angry and I want the Democrats to kick his ass and MCConnell's ass. So I hope they go after McConnell. He's been almost invisible the past few days. News media hardly mentions him. He said, "Hey, I have no role in this" and then did a quick fade. I know. I'm sure Pelosi and Schumer have a strategy, but I worry.

by Anonymousreply 486January 6, 2019 1:00 PM

by Anonymousreply 487January 6, 2019 1:00 PM

After that the ball will be in McConnellโ€™s court

by Anonymousreply 488January 6, 2019 1:20 PM

Exactly, R488. The House will do their job. She will be effective in the House for sure. But the Media is setting expectations so high that when that shit gets fucked by McConnell, both McConnell and Trump will peddle the bullshit that it was not a good bill, Pelosi can't get it right, etc. and right now the Media is just hoping for some red meat trying to hype real or imaginary "divisions" among Democratic House members. Nancy is brilliant. She is ready for it. But WE need to do whatever we can to keep the focus on McConnell. He absolutely cannot get away with blocking things from coming to a vote.

by Anonymousreply 489January 6, 2019 1:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 490January 6, 2019 1:33 PM

[quote] McConnell and Trump will peddle the bullshit that it was not a good bill, Pelosi can't get it right, etc.

She is passing the exact same bills that the Rethuglican controlled House and Senate passed last year -- minus the money for the stupid, fucking wall. She is just doing it one-by-one to get the government open again. It is difficult to see her losing the media / public relations battle in this case. This is a smart approach, and the Repukes in the Senate will cave. Most of them believe the wall is an absurd waste of money. And, even if they don't they can read the polls -- this is a very unpopular idea.

by Anonymousreply 491January 6, 2019 2:07 PM

am I stupid? why didn't Trump get his wall when he had full control of the branches ??

by Anonymousreply 492January 6, 2019 2:25 PM

r492 The Senate filibuster still applies all votes except court confirmations. When the minority party decides to filibuster, it takes 60 Senators to pass a bill. Last year, McConnell needed nine or ten Democratic Senators to vote to override the filibuster and include Trump's wall funding in the budget. No way that was going to happen.

by Anonymousreply 493January 6, 2019 2:50 PM

Both branches do not want it, R492, and the Senate dares not choose the 'nuclear' option knowing it will be used against them when the tables eventually turn. Down deep they know it's a Trump boondoggle. Unneeded, unnecessary and stupid and unpopular in some marginal states like Arizona and Texas where private property rights are sacred. Ranchers have cross-borderlands they graze. It's anti-environmental, cruel to migrating animals and would require the destruction of many sensitive and unique ecosystems.

It's not a simple build. They'll have to use eminent domain and adhere to state water regulations. I wouldn't trust this asshole with a crayon, let alone something this complicated.

No wall. Increase, modify and expand border facilities and patrols. Create little areas where you funnel them through and catch illegals. You want to come in? Use the gate we've already provided and do the appropriate paperwork to seek asylum. What we've now done is create those who are trying to do this as a 'criminal' class and the enemy. We've created fear around teenagers, children, women and yes, big bad hombres fleeing the horrible conditions of their country; conditions that in some cases we helped create.

We want an end to the carnage this man has created. Get rid of him, now.

by Anonymousreply 494January 6, 2019 3:36 PM

This entire uproar currently happening is all about trump and his complete and incompetent idiocy. There is no need for a wall, his insistence upon building one is based on blind ignorance. He's created an untenable situation by piling up poor refugees at the border, removing children from their families, and creating a humanitarian crisis.

He closed the border for nothing except he likes to be the center of attention even when it's a crisis of his own making. It doesn't matter what it's about, he glories in being the center of attention all day and every day, no matter who gets hurt or how much money it costs. He is a very sick individual and a traitor to this country. He is wasting our time and resources. He belongs in jail. I am sick to death of his ugly face, along with McConnell's and other Senate Republicans who are putting self before the welfare of this country. What a disgraceful time we're living through. Enough!

I like how Pelosi asked Trump to pray about it. Surely she knows that he doesnโ€™t pry.

by Anonymousreply 515January 6, 2019 11:50 PM

Has the news started to use the word, "lied," when referencing anything Bone Spurs said? Once they start doing that that's when we'll know the tide has turned.

by Anonymousreply 516January 7, 2019 12:12 AM

Please Dana Bash, don't be interviewing Rudy Giuliani, Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul, and Kellyanne Conway. You need to confront and challenge these people, not act star-struck.

by Anonymousreply 517January 7, 2019 12:26 AM

R516, MSNBC does so more freely now, but not always.

by Anonymousreply 518January 7, 2019 12:29 AM

Is there any indication at all that dear Ivanka could be tied to anything that would get her indicted or was she somehow smart enough to keep herself removed from most of it?

by Anonymousreply 519January 7, 2019 12:37 AM

Something I heard recently on my local news which I thought was interesting:

They were talking about Mitt Romney's OP ED piece and how he was "tough" on Bone Spurs and how he was "unfit" for the position. They went on to say essentially, "but take that with a grain of salt as Romney has had issues in the past of going back and forth from criticizing to praising Bone Spurs depending on the time of day."

by Anonymousreply 520January 7, 2019 12:40 AM

R519, there is a recently-opened criminal probe into how money was cycled in and out of the dodgy Trump Inauguration Committee; Ivanka has been implicated in that.

by Anonymousreply 521January 7, 2019 12:43 AM

Thanks, R521, I forgot about that.

by Anonymousreply 522January 7, 2019 12:45 AM

Has been two years since inauguration...and nothing will ever be done. I have had it...the prick in the White House is tearing our country apart and all we do is talk, talk, talk. Our end is near and Mueller is dotting his I s.

by Anonymousreply 523January 7, 2019 12:59 AM

Is he Russian? The grammar and spelling errors say yes. There must be multiple trolls. Some of the posts make sense. Some of them are just word salad.

by Anonymousreply 525January 7, 2019 1:55 AM

Exactly, R525. R523 is the perfect example of what I've been pointing out... how the trolls slowly try to pepper the threads as though their active participants but none of it really ever makes sense. It slowly starts posting "doubt" posts and yes.. the wording and grammar are pieced together poorly.

[quote]Has the news started to use the word, "lied," when referencing anything Bone Spurs said? Once they start doing that that's when we'll know the tide has turned.

One of the anchor guys on CNN mornings has taken was referring to "Donald Trump and his Co-President," Sean Hannity last week.

I'm sure he's been warned to stop.

I keep looking to the media to see when any shifts in their presentation of him and his crime family. I think that's the biggest indicator of when the Rethugs will finally turn on him.

Does anyone know what it looked like with Nixon? When did the media finally turn on him?

I initially (a few months ago) couldnโ€™t decide if I liked Jeffries because I just couldnโ€™t get a good read on him. But after hearing his fly โ€œweโ€™re down with NDPโ€ speech the other day, I finally get him and adore his ass. He seems tough as hell, would love to learn more about him.

by Anonymousreply 543January 7, 2019 3:36 AM

Who do I have to pray to in order for Paul Ryan to get an indictment. I don't want him in the clear.

by Anonymousreply 544January 7, 2019 3:36 AM

Add the Senatrice and Melty Face McConnell to that list.

Who else?

by Anonymousreply 545January 7, 2019 3:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 551January 7, 2019 3:40 AM

Chaffetz!!!! He needs a good nick-name.

by Anonymousreply 552January 7, 2019 3:41 AM

Yes, that weasel Nunes is still on the Intelligence Committee. I don't think there's any way for Democrats to kick him off is there?

by Anonymousreply 553January 7, 2019 3:42 AM

I go back and forth on who I want them to take down next. Pence would be great.

Do we know any more about him lawyering up?

I feel like he would be the first person to throw Bone Spurs under the bus to save himself and get a Mueller Special, ie, recommendation for no jail time for cooperating fully.

by Anonymousreply 554January 7, 2019 3:44 AM

R554 absolutely Pence would do that. I can't think of anyone stupid enough that wouldn't throw Dotard under the bus at this point --- well aside from Jr.

by Anonymousreply 555January 7, 2019 3:45 AM

I don't know about anyone else but I've long thought that if anyone was ratting Drumpf out it would be Pence and Kushner. Something tells me if ANYONE was already working to save their own asses it'd be those two.

by Anonymousreply 556January 7, 2019 3:46 AM

r554....Pence was THE VERY FIRST to lawyer up.....that should tell you something.

by Anonymousreply 557January 7, 2019 3:47 AM

I like to think that Kushner is compelled to sell everyone out because jail time is too terrifying for him --- for no other reason than he can't dream of spending that much time away from his Dermatologist.

by Anonymousreply 558January 7, 2019 3:49 AM

Yes, R557 I think that is a point often overlooked by everyone.

And didn't he Lawyer up for seemingly no reason?

by Anonymousreply 559January 7, 2019 3:49 AM

Let's please also add Hannity to the list of people we want to see go down. He wasn't working with Cohen on Real Estate.

by Anonymousreply 560January 7, 2019 3:50 AM

r559.....He lawyered up as soon as Mueller was appointed.

by Anonymousreply 563January 7, 2019 3:54 AM

Interesting. So he got a Lawyer to respond to requests from the Special Counsel. Is there any way that that can seem like something one would normally do? Is it overreaching to assume he did so because he's afraid of what he'll get implicated in?

by Anonymousreply 564January 7, 2019 3:55 AM

I literally want to watch these fuckers get picked off, one at a time. You know, like at a carnival shooting gallery. Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

by Anonymousreply 565January 7, 2019 3:56 AM

Also noticed that R523 hasn't bothered to come back.

by Anonymousreply 566January 7, 2019 3:56 AM

In what order, R565?

by Anonymousreply 567January 7, 2019 3:56 AM

The one thing that I look forward to is that I know once there is going to be a moment when they indict one person and whoever that person is is going to start a chain reaction and they're all going to fall like dominos. I have no doubt about that. Once that happens it'll all happen so quickly that we'll be starting new threads everyday.

by Anonymousreply 568January 7, 2019 3:58 AM

by Anonymousreply 575January 7, 2019 4:17 AM

This was 10 years ago, but Hakeem Jeffries (new chair of the House Democratic Caucus) used to come to some of my work events in his district when he was a state Assemblyman.

He's a really smart guy, and I think cares more about people and making things better, more than most politicians. He's more street fighter than you might think, which I hope bodes well for this new role in our new environment. I'm really pleased he's where he is now.

Tish James was at those events too when she was on the city council, and they got along well. Who knew then that they would both end up playing a role in taking back the country from perennial joke Donald Trump as President!

He's much better looking in person; his eyes are beautiful and pretty intensely green. I thought he had a gym body under those suits.
