by Anonymousreply 4December 22, 2018 7:24 PM

We love you OP! ♥️

by Anonymousreply 5December 22, 2018 7:27 PM

If somebody has the free time during this Christmas season, I would like to see the list of how a Senate vote for impeachment could go.

by Anonymousreply 6December 22, 2018 7:28 PM

R6, Senators are mostly owned by the donor class. A few may owe the Russians something, but most are owned by the donors. When the donor class has had enough of Trump, the Senate will do what it is told to do. That’s why I think that predicting votes after a hypothetical impeachment trial is difficult. No Senator’s past polical views will really matter; it will matter what the donors think.

by Anonymousreply 7December 22, 2018 7:47 PM

I'm not sure Joe Manchin would be an automatic vote to convict. I mean, if the evidence was overwhelming, yes. But I think he's the one threading the smallest needle of the red state Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 8December 22, 2018 7:55 PM

From Robert Reich, this morning:

by Anonymousreply 9December 22, 2018 8:04 PM

The graphic at top is good but it's missing a direct link between trump and putin. We know trump talks to putin often, getting his marching orders and such.

by Anonymousreply 10December 22, 2018 8:26 PM

That stuff from Reich was posted in the previous thread and the consensus was that we should take it with a grain of salt given his activities as a major Berniebro during the 2015 primaries.

by Anonymousreply 11December 22, 2018 8:28 PM

Don't lump everyone in with your concerned "consensus."

by Anonymousreply 12December 22, 2018 8:33 PM

But it was already posted, nevertheless, r12

by Anonymousreply 13December 22, 2018 8:37 PM

I hope it's true that there is a tape of Paul Ryan talking about Russian money laundering. That would make my Christmas!!! Lock that fucker up.

I thin you are correct, r16. It turns out that was from 2017. There was a DL thread on it last year as well.

by Anonymousreply 17December 22, 2018 8:51 PM

I know Ryan stepped down because of Russia and McConnell will be indicted too.

by Anonymousreply 18December 22, 2018 8:52 PM

I like it, R9. Thanks for that, R12. Post it again just to piss off the Bernie Bro control freak troll. It would be a double blessing that way.

by Anonymousreply 19December 22, 2018 8:56 PM

And what did Jill Stein do? We never hear from her or about her. For some fucking reason she went to Russia, why?

by Anonymousreply 20December 22, 2018 8:56 PM

Do not trust Manchin as far as you can throw him, he is pure Republican.

by Anonymousreply 21December 22, 2018 8:59 PM

Pres Bone Spurs is going mental it looks like. He is fucking up everything in huge ways it seems.

r21 Manchin has been key votes WITH Dems. He is not pure repug. He is a very moderate Dem. He represents the reddest state (at least in the 2016 election) and has done very well to side with Dems on very key votes. I don't trust him but he is better than any alternative there.

by Anonymousreply 22December 22, 2018 9:02 PM

I hope you are right, r16. How do you know Ryan stepped down because of Russia? He sure disappeared after he got the tax bill through. I hope he and McTurtle finish their lives behind bars.

This morning I phoned my friend, the former Republican member of Congress.

ME: So, what are you hearing?

HE: Trump is in deep sh*t.

ME: Tell me more.

HE: When it looked like he was backing down on the wall, Rush and the crazies on Fox went ballistic. So he has to do the shutdown to keep the base happy. They’re his insurance policy. They stand between him and impeachment.

ME: Impeachment? No chance. Senate Republicans would never go along.

HE (laughing): Don’t be so sure. Corporate and Wall Street are up in arms. Trade war was bad enough. Now, you’ve got Mattis resigning in protest. Trump pulling out of Syria, giving Putin a huge win. This dumbass shutdown. The stock market in free-fall. The economy heading for recession.

ME: But the base loves him.

HE: Yeah, but the base doesn’t pay the bills.

ME: You mean …

HE: Follow the money, friend.

ME: The GOP’s backers have had enough?

HE: They wanted Pence all along.

ME: So …

HE: So they’ll wait until Mueller’s report, which will skewer Trump. Pelosi will wait, too. Then after the Mueller bombshell, she’ll get 20, 30, maybe even 40 Republicans to join in an impeachment resolution.

ME: And then?

HE: Senate Republicans hope that’ll be enough -- that Trump will pull a Nixon.

ME: So you think he’ll resign?

HE (laughing): No chance. He’s fu*king out of his mind. He’ll rile up his base into a fever. Rallies around the country. Tweet storms. Hannity. Oh, it’s gonna be ugly. He’ll convince himself he’ll survive.

ME: And then?

HE: That’s when Senate Republicans pull the trigger.

ME: Really? Two-thirds of the Senate?

HE: Do the math. 47 Dems will be on board, so you need 19 Republicans. I can name almost that many who are already there. Won’t be hard to find the votes.

ME: But it will take months. And the country will be put through a wringer.

HE: I know. That’s the worst part.

ME: I mean, we could have civil war.

HE: Hell, no. That’s what he wants, but no chance. His approvals will be in the cellar. America will be glad to get rid of him.

ME: I hope you're right.

HE: He’s a dangerous menace. He’ll be gone. And then he'll be indicted, and Pence will pardon him. But the state investigations may put him in the clinker. Good riddance.

by Anonymousreply 26December 22, 2018 9:20 PM

The tape of Paul Ryan discussing Russian money is old news....it does exist....google is your friend.

by Anonymousreply 27December 22, 2018 9:21 PM

So he blew things up spectacularly this week. Almost unbelievably except we all knew this was coming. Any repug who didn't deserves what they get. Anyone who voted for him deserves what they get. This was always going to happen and this will not be the worst.

He blew up our foreign policy, a very flawed one, but he is causing chaos and tragedy. Will the military finally turn on him and repugs? They stand by and give a few pearl clutches and sound bites but don't do a whole lot to stop this.

And once again a repug destroys our economy and likely the world economy. Will we ever learn you cannot trust conservatives?

by Anonymousreply 28December 22, 2018 9:26 PM

Conservatives play dirty and always have. They've always been this way. The reason Dems controlled Congress for over 40 years is because there were many southern conservative Dems in the party who made sure to keep power in any way they could. There is something mentally off with conservatives. I'm not talking about those who have a few conservative view points but those who are conservative through and through.

by Anonymousreply 29December 22, 2018 9:30 PM

We already knew this but still.

A thread was started on this R30 and the Russian trolls are out like crazy!. They're triggered when Stein, the Russian asset, is brought up.

by Anonymousreply 31December 22, 2018 10:19 PM

You're right!!!!!! Troll City in that thread!

I'm going to use Troll-Dar and find out which of them are in THIS thread.

by Anonymousreply 32December 22, 2018 10:36 PM

Yeah please don't direct them over here!

by Anonymousreply 33December 22, 2018 10:43 PM

They would never last here in this thread. Many have tried and they get filleted. They generally don't fuck with this thread. Russians aren't smart enough to be in this thread. They can only spout tired platitudes and talking points. They just repeat the same shit over and over.

by Anonymousreply 34December 22, 2018 10:46 PM

Wanna see someone triggered and need a safe space- go around saying "Happy Holidays" because you won't get 3 people in before you get the tart "It's Merry Christmas thank you very much" response. I'm going to respond, "Merry Mueller Christmas, indeed!"

by Anonymousreply 35December 22, 2018 10:48 PM

That "water carrier" guy in the last thread got shut down GOOD!

Not another peep out of him! (Until the cookie clearing, of course).

by Anonymousreply 36December 22, 2018 10:49 PM

R31 seriously?

by Anonymousreply 37December 22, 2018 10:50 PM

The thing to remember is that Trump doesn't come up with this stuff on his own. We know he is getting "instructive suggestions and advice" from Putin, but he is also getting a lot of advice from Miller and Bannon, Hannity and Bill Shine. Now this Syria shit was pure Putin. I even see Jared's hand in it. He made Turkey and Putin happy. Iran is happy. And his threats to fire the Fed Chair are pure Trump. He doesn't want to be blamed for the chaos he created so he's looking for a scapegoat.

by Anonymousreply 38December 22, 2018 10:56 PM

There aren't enough people left in that administration to scapegoat for all the crimes and misdemeanors heading his way come January 3rd.

I hope the Reich scenario guy is correct because it seems very plausible to me. It will be painful, but worth it in the end.

by Anonymousreply 39December 22, 2018 11:00 PM

Meanwhile, Russia is building up it's air force in the Ukraine. Things are about to escalate there and in Syria.

We're selecting wall designs.

by Anonymousreply 40December 22, 2018 11:02 PM

*its* not *it's*

by Anonymousreply 41December 22, 2018 11:04 PM

So it really was Make Russia Great Again

Pres Bone Spurs is looking for his next move from Daddy Vladdy. I bet Putin farted in his face at their summit.

by Anonymousreply 42December 22, 2018 11:06 PM

Read somewhere that one of the reasons Mattis resigned was that Donald was making noises about using the military funds and personnel to build his magic wall, which you have to admit is thinking outside the box.

by Anonymousreply 43December 22, 2018 11:16 PM

R38 R39 R40 R41 and R42

by Anonymousreply 44December 22, 2018 11:17 PM

r44 You must've blocked them (including me) for things unrelated to politics. Probably over Lady Fug I'm assuming.

by Anonymousreply 45December 22, 2018 11:20 PM

R42, the new conduit is Rand Paul and the Mar a Lago hotline.

Where's climate change hurricane madness when you need it? I did hear they got some nasty tornadoes down there.

Another wish for the xmas list.....

by Anonymousreply 46December 22, 2018 11:21 PM

Really, r44, why do you bother blocking people only to later annoy everyone else trying to find out what those blocked people are writing? Snowflakes like YOU deserve to be blocked

by Anonymousreply 47December 22, 2018 11:23 PM

I have only blocked BernieBros and Putin fans, R47.

by Anonymousreply 48December 22, 2018 11:24 PM

r47 Clearly they are very triggered to block that many people, including me. If you look at my posting history, it can't be over politics.

r48 Bullshit. I am neither of those and my posting history proves it.

by Anonymousreply 49December 22, 2018 11:25 PM

r48 is really wanting to know what the blocked people have said. He's weighing whether to post their reply #'s again or just move on with life.

by Anonymousreply 50December 22, 2018 11:27 PM

I don't believe in blocking, either, but the slathering, mouth breathing haters deserve oblivion. I do find it funny that I seldom miss their comments.

The Putin fan accuser and Bernie bro troll is one of those types and claims to be the OP of several of these threads. It's a stubborn thing that just doesn't get that not everyone thinks the same way and loves to question how you voted, as if that was something you could prove here.

by Anonymousreply 51December 22, 2018 11:27 PM

What r47 said. Quit junking up the board, just unblock them, read what they said then block them again if you want to.

by Anonymousreply 52December 22, 2018 11:28 PM

R49, I'm the same way. My posting history here is easy to find and verify. The troll who likes to accuse others? Not so much.....

by Anonymousreply 53December 22, 2018 11:31 PM

Love the word “and” between the last two entries in the blocked set. Such a properly ordered and worded series. So OCD, as if the whole thing would not work and fall apart if it didn’t have that “and” joining the last two entries.

by Anonymousreply 54December 22, 2018 11:33 PM

R53 me too.

by Anonymousreply 55December 22, 2018 11:35 PM

Those of you who find yourselves in r44’s block list should pile on the comments and freak the fuck out of him.

by Anonymousreply 56December 22, 2018 11:36 PM

It's already been done if he's blocked me. I'm pretty benign. Triggered darling. How funny that the very people who accuse others are the ones being triggered the most.

I could care less what the troll wants to read or not. He's boring.

by Anonymousreply 57December 22, 2018 11:38 PM

Never say I wasn't accommodating, R56.

by Anonymousreply 58December 22, 2018 11:39 PM

R43 - “Donald was making noises about using the military funds and personnel to build his magic wall, which you have to admit is thinking outside the box”.

Just like Trump thinking “outside the box”. while stealing funds from his now shutdown foundation. Can’t wait for the SDNY to skewer him with righteous justice..... Fucking scam artist.

by Anonymousreply 59December 22, 2018 11:40 PM

The report from multiple frustrated eyewitnesses was that Trump's withdrawal from Syria was at the instigation—indeed, the insinuating, lulling, serpentine persuasion—of Erdoğan, who now has free rein to oppress his Kurds and, if he can, those on the other side of the Turkish border. Iran and Iraq are also very satisfied with Trump's "decision." I suppose Putin is also satisfied, but word was that it wasn't primarily his influence behind things this time.

by Anonymousreply 60December 22, 2018 11:41 PM

^^Putin Defender Troll is what it looks like.

by Anonymousreply 61December 22, 2018 11:44 PM

R51 = dissembling Bernie supporter trying to seed chaos

This thread really has been taken over by Putin-loving chaos trolls. You might as well be honest about it, assholes.

And yes, I did start this series of threads. I fucking hate Putin, Sanders (both variations), Stein and Trump for what they did to this country. I support Clinton and Mueller. And if you have any issue with any of that, then you are fucking Trump-supporting trash yourself.

by Anonymousreply 62December 22, 2018 11:47 PM

Trump never met an authoritative dictator he didn't listen to above HIS OWN DOD advisors....it's maddening how insanely obvious this bullshit is.

Mueller must really have the goods on him for him to act so overtly. I hope the report is overwhelming to the point where the Congress and Senate have no choice but to impeach him. If we can see this shit, surely they can?

by Anonymousreply 63December 22, 2018 11:50 PM

Doubtful

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 64December 22, 2018 11:51 PM

What makes the Reich scenario so believable is that the guy acknowledges how the fool would never resign and will put the country through hell. What I don't get is how they 'wanted Pence' all along....that part is a bit of a reach because Pence wasn't running, he was 'chosen' for the role from virtual obscurity and what many pundits perceived as future political oblivion as one of the most unpopular governors in Indiana's history. Manafort chose him, so just who is 'they' anyway?

The whole web of lies doesn't just involve the Dump family and the NRA bitch.....there's a long history of dealings with this crowd and the so-called xtian right is in it up to their turkey wattle necks.

Melania is on her way from Lago to the WH, since Tyrannosaurus Trump has dug his claws firmly into his shutdown debacle.

I can only imagine the mood between these two. Do you think she still fucks him?

by Anonymousreply 68December 23, 2018 12:53 AM

She just can't resist his sweaty scent:

Can't believe I've been fingered as a "Putin Defender Troll" for pointing out the variety of authoritarian despots whose tune Trump dances to. I think some people are getting a little ad hominem and hypersensitive to arguments that aren't there. For the record, yes, I've assumed since before the election that Trump is in Putin's pocket. The Steele Report has yet to be discredited; it keeps getting borne out. But Trump is also a sucker for Erdoğan, Mohammed bin Salman, et al. All of these dictators, not just Putin, know exactly which buttons to push with him.

by Anonymousreply 76December 23, 2018 1:28 AM

It’s also possible that the trolls have learned how to scream “troll”.

by Anonymousreply 77December 23, 2018 1:43 AM

by Anonymousreply 78December 23, 2018 1:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 79December 23, 2018 1:49 AM
Is this shutdown a dry run for Trump’s inevitable “Hitler in the bunker” moment?

I’m very suspicious about him staying in the WH. Like he’s going to try to play “as long as I’m in the WH, I’m still president”.

by Anonymousreply 80December 23, 2018 1:50 AM

I like to think about how crazed Drumpf is knowing the walls are closing in... but then I remember that his stupidity and arrogance probably don't allow for him to actually realize they are.

by Anonymousreply 81December 23, 2018 1:51 AM

trump is every obnoxious stupid ass I've seen in my life rolled into one. He's a horrendous embarrassment who hasn't a clue how stupid he looks. Bolstered by other idiots and cheaters, he thrives.

One thing I can't stand about some humans is their lack of appreciation for grace, dignity, and compassionate brilliance. They revel in the muck and bring others down.

by Anonymousreply 82December 23, 2018 2:26 AM

I'm guessing Donny Two Scoops thinks that if he leaves the WH they won't let him back in.

YES r83, I suspect he has a fear of that as well. He’s so thick, he’s probably not even conscious of it, but he is indeed afraid of being locked out of the WH. Wouldn’t it be funny if they played mind games with him? “Sir, we’ve booked you a stay outside the WH as we’re repairing some drywall and we don’t want you inhaling that old plaster. For how long? Not.....too long, sir.”

by Anonymousreply 84December 23, 2018 3:58 AM

He'll probably have young Barron holed up in the WH, using him as "daddy's human shield".

Word is that Dump had to pay Melania a cool $25 million cash or she'd divorce his ass if he ever cheated on her. It probably motivated him moreso to pay Stormy Daniels off. I recall Dump was more worried about Mel's divorce on or near the 2016 election, then simply for infidelity. Because he could give ashit about that alone.

by Anonymousreply 90December 23, 2018 7:58 AM

Trump supporters remain stupid. I know we keep hearing that Trump is losing support, but the one I encountered today did not prove that point. I was in a store just before 6 PM and the tv happened to be set on CNN. I saw the following Jeanne Moos segment (see below). It showed a compilation of Trump saying he knows more about everything than everyone else accompanied by Moos' usual mocking tone. While we would shake our head, be disgusted and laugh at how stupid/arrogant/bullshitterish Trump is, the deplorable who was standing next to me was shaking her head at the sarcasm from Moos. After the segment was over she was muttering out loud how CNN is a bullshit network and said nothing about the compilation of Trump saying he knows everything the best. I swear it's as if everything Trump says is legit in their minds and not to be questioned. I didn't bother engaging her

I swear he could say the earth is flat and they'd have no problem with it.

If Melania divorced DJT, his finances, activities, and properties would be discussed in depositions. He cannot have that. $25 million was probably a bargain.

Is Melanie the most hated first lady ever? She had some sympathy until her 'most bullied' complaint and the jacket. She's just another whore

by Anonymousreply 98December 23, 2018 12:35 PM

I think even I had some sympathy for her especially after the viral memes of her face dropping at the Inauguration and the one of her slapping Dump’s hand away a couple of times.

Then I completely lost it after the reveal of who that jacket was really for and the “most bullied” comment. She is a complicit whore who I believe could be at risk because of that whole funneling $25M to her friend from the Trump Inaugural Fund. I’m glad that she is just as fucking miserable as the rest of the family is.

by Anonymousreply 99December 23, 2018 12:39 PM

I love how Melania acts like she’s going to get out of this completely unscathed. Like, sorry, but no, bitch. I saw a local theater production of a Trump spoof here in D.C. recently where they had Melania played by a drag queen.

by Anonymousreply 100December 23, 2018 12:58 PM

I wish someone would commit to primarying Trump already. Kasich said that he couldn't beat Trump in a primary so who will take Trump on?

by Anonymousreply 101December 23, 2018 1:05 PM

R101, the way things are structured that won't happen. The announcement the other day of the Trump campaign and the RNC merging before the 2020 elections effectively stops anyone from challenging Trump internally. The Trump strategy group, and there is one, wants to stop internal challenges and have him re nominated "by acclamation." However, they may have outsmarted themselves. Because what they are insuring is that the base will not expand, for the party, and they will be left with the MAGAs . Trump is not going to stop being Trump. He won't attract broader support. So those people will either stay away, or support the Dems, or ....form a third party. Bottom line is we have to put forth the same effort, and go all out the way we did in the 2018...on steroids

by Anonymousreply 102December 23, 2018 1:14 PM

R102 here. Want to add that the Trump strategy is to give the impression of party unity and party support rallying around a President under attack.

by Anonymousreply 103December 23, 2018 1:16 PM

Isn't it around 85% of Republicans remain supportive of Trump? There's lttle hope of a primary challenger that will be very effective.

What is possible is a third party/independent candidate that is center-right, and can attract Republicans and independents too disgusted with Trump to vote for him.

The Democrats need to show caution and not go far left.

He's a Russian agent, FFS!

by Anonymousreply 106December 23, 2018 1:35 PM

Corker apparently told Jake Tapper that the next three months were important to whether Trump will run or not. Since Trump has clearly decided to run... he never stopped running... it sounds to me like Corker is saying that the next three months will determine if the party backs him or not. Mueller's report is supposed to come out some time in February, so that may give Republicans cover for when they start pressuring Trump not to run. Trump will fight them, so they're going to need a third party who has the guts to stand up to Trump and rebuff the die-hard Trump fans. The media loves a fight, so the third party will get lots of press... the question is who has the stomach for that kind of pressure cooker.

The Republican establishment must have started looking around... but at who? Kasich is out. I think the establishment might be willing to back Jeb again, but I can't see Jeb having the stomach to run again.

by Anonymousreply 107December 23, 2018 2:16 PM

by Anonymousreply 115December 23, 2018 5:47 PM

The Qs think that Putin and Trump are part of the "Three Kings" Nativity crap:
I feel an Epiphany coming on... So the Twelve Days of Christmas between Christmas Day and the Feast of Epiphany maps to the predicted 10 days of darkness starting martial law (5 by 5), running from day after Boxing Day (27th) and concluding with Jan 5th - when government will be cleared out of deep state operatives and the 63k sealed cases arrests are made? The Feast of the Epiphany is when the 3 Wise Men or MAGI brought Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to the baby Jesus. It is also when John the Baptist baptised Jesus, making him Jesus Christ ("The Anointed One").
Does this imply disclosure of knowledge, true history and events, on Jan 6th after deep state has been arrested and locked up? Three Kings equate to POTUS, Putin and Xi?
Are we going to get increased light and daily presents from Q:

Christians who celebrate the Twelve Days may give gifts on each of them, with each of the Twelve Days representing a wish for a corresponding month of the new year. They may feast on traditional foods and otherwise celebrate the entire time through the morning of the Solemnity of Epiphany. Contemporary traditions include lighting a candle for each day, singing the verse of the corresponding day from the famous The Twelve Days of Christmas, and lighting a yule log on Christmas Eve and letting it burn some more on each of the twelve nights. For some, the Twelfth Night remains the night of the most festive parties and exchanges of gifts. Some households exchange gifts on the first (25 December) and last (5 January) days of the Twelve Days.
Does Yule log relate to the Yulo King Ranch post I made a few hours ago?
The song's earliest version appears to be 1774 and various versions have different gifts, such as: 12 Bells Ringing, 11 Badgers Baiting, 11 Bulls a-beating, 10 Ships a sailing, 10 Cocks a-crowing, 10 Asses racing, 7 Hares running, 5 Hares running, 1 Juniper tree.
Could there be some illuminati source behind creation of this song?t

by Anonymousreply 155December 23, 2018 10:36 PM

It's kind of fascinating watching Republicans slowly, subtly, turn the ocean liner around. My father is a Fox-watching Trump voter who believes that Mueller is the devil - but today he said he was worried that Trump was wrong on Syria. Because Fox told him that Trump was wrong. And he laughed a little over Chris Christie's joke about Trump being like your stubborn 72-year-old uncle. He can relate because he had stubborn elderly relatives who did stupid things.

These are tiny, and on the surface inconsequential, moves. But if Fox news tells voters next year that it's time to vote for a new, younger, Republican President... the Fox viewers will be primed and ready.

by Anonymousreply 156December 23, 2018 10:38 PM

That damp / squeezing thing is from a parody report on Democratic Underground. I don't know why that guy is reporting it as "sources say" unless it's very tongue in cheek (he is a Gawker writer, after all).

by Anonymousreply 157December 23, 2018 10:39 PM

That’s waaaaaaaaaaaay overdue, Corker. Occasionally he straps his balls on, but all these Republicans are fucking sissies. I guess most politicians are, but the Rethugs being so sissified is more irksome because they talk as though they’re so tough. It’s one of 10,000 points of irony — the Dems don’t sound as tough because they don’t have to dummy-up their message for a Neanderthal base, but they are in fact, much tougher. It takes courage to stand up for those who are bullied and picked on. We all know this from personal experience. Think about times when someone was treating you like you are “less than” and someone stood up for you. That’s exactly what the Dems are doing with immigrants and DACA. They need to pound the media to drive that message, that any asshole turns their backs on the poor. REAL Americans have the balls to stand up for others.

I think the Dems have always been tougher, but have a) failed to challenge both the Rethug and media message that they’re wimps, and b) they’ve really failed to market their message (without or without the media’s cooperation). I think they understand that now and I’m hopeful. Also, if you doubt the strength of the Dems, just remember Ms. Nancy in the Oval Office only ten days ago. She didn’t denigrate or disrespect, but still managed to be a cunt. She understands that trash talking him to his face will lose points, so she saved her most crass remarks for outside. Love her, we couldn’t ask for a better leader right now.

SCOTUS has issued a temp pause on an order holding an unnamed, foreign government-owned company in contempt over that mystery court case related to Mueller investigation. The one where they locked down an entire floor of the federal courtroom last week and practically cleared the building.

The company asked SCOTUS to intervene after a fed appeals court ruled they had to comply with the subpoena, which required it to turn over "information" about its commercial activity in a criminal investigation.

Hmmmmmm.....a PAUSE on a contempt order? That sounds really fishy. And it was fucking granted? I don’t trust any of them. Roberts has somewhat earned back a smidge of my begrudging respect but I’m also paranoid. I need to know what company this is and why Roberts would pause a contempt order? I cannot *fathom* why a company would demand this level of secrecy unless they are huge.....Deutsche Bank? I feel like it’s got to be a business that is customer based (not biz to biz). And what comes to my mind is either banking, or possibly even social media?

by Anonymousreply 180December 24, 2018 2:29 AM

by Anonymousreply 185December 24, 2018 2:45 AM

He only paused it for one week so the entire Court could review it....the decision is due by Dec 31. This is nothing out of the ordinary. Usually such decisions are handled by a single Justice who is assigned to a specific district...he can allow or decline the petition, OR he can refer it to the entire bench of Justices.....and I;m sure because of the nature of the case, Roberts felt he should have the entire Court review it.

by Anonymousreply 186December 24, 2018 2:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 190December 24, 2018 3:12 AM

Gods bless you R186!!! At first my stomach got all queasy, but now I feel better. Roberts will be circumspect and as fair as possible, but he seems like he is not going to give that fucker a free pass. I think Roberts is fully prepared to deal with a trial if it comes to that. Right now Any rational human being ought to be extremely alarmed at what is going on. The abrupt decision to pull out the troops, and his generally irrational behavior has got to be something the SCOTUS will take a long hard look at.

The Treasury Secretary held a conference call with major bankers today informing them "don't worry, liquidity isn't a problem at all!"

So the question going around Twitter regarding that statement: evil? or stupid?

I hope once this is over, hopefully, democrats with make a list of all the damage, all the unnecessary cost, all the foreign relations disarray Trump has forced onto Americans and the world basically.

I don't want them to go back to business as usual until they have spoken out about this on every parlamentary debate, news channel, TV station, town hall meeting.

The GOP needs to be destroyed. Since Reagan they are nothing but a toxic bunch of greedy, self serving and ruthless hypocrites.

r177, I believe you.

That has just the right touch of eccentricity to have the ring of credibility.

by Anonymousreply 199December 24, 2018 12:02 PM

If the Republicans pull a stunt like Trump resigning and Pence pardoning him, we must rebel unless and until Trump pays reparations for all the damage he's done. I want him picked clean. If he gets to go free, then he has to be poor for the rest of his life. As much as I'd like to see him drawn and quartered, hanged, burned at the stake, or some combination thereof, being poor would probably be the worst punishment of all for DJT.

R206, Roberts cannot independently shut down any line of inquiry, including the subpoena of the mystery corporation. That would take a ruling from the whole Court. The halt is temporary to see if the Court wants to intervene in the matter of the subpoena.
If you talk about the terrible stock market, he will counter with "lowest unemployment" bs.

Trump IS a troll. He will never admit he is wrong, that it is everybody else's fault but most certainly not his. And he will remain a hate monger to his last dying breath to distract from the fact that he's a troll.

Why do people still think they can get through to him? He does whatever Putin tells him and then comes up with some BS to "justify" his actions. You know, like any regular (mostly) Republican senator or representative who takes orders from his donors and then tells the public some bullshit story why this new law or regulation is good for everybody (not just for the rich donors).

by Anonymousreply 239December 24, 2018 5:59 PM

r218....fuck off with your delusional bullshit...its been explained many times that it is normal procedure to pause his ruling pending review by the entire Court.....if it was as you say, he would have stopped it dead in its tracks when he received the petition. Is your life that pathetic that you have to imagine a doomsday scenario in everything without bothering to learn the facts ? FFS.

by Anonymousreply 240December 24, 2018 6:01 PM

R240, he's not delusional to refute the 'centrist' claims. That's knee jerk optimism at work there and you can't blame the poster if they're calling it out. They are correct. Roberts is no Kennedy.

You could have just stated that instead of calling someone 'pathetic'....we get a lot of people here who have no idea what's going on and want to get to the marrow quickly....this thread does that. We also get a lot of folks from other countries who have no idea how our judiciary works. Finally, not everyone has the ability to scroll through these threads quickly.

I love these threads for the variety of articles posted and the intelligent discussion. Thanks to all the OPs for putting this up (even you, Bernie hating troll).

by Anonymousreply 241December 24, 2018 6:10 PM

R240, Roberts can't stop it in its tracks by his own decree. He has to have the court look at it and then he can get the GOP majority to stop the subpoena.

That he took up the appeal at all shows where he's headed. He's blocking this part of the investigation.

by Anonymousreply 242December 24, 2018 6:34 PM

I claim it proudly, R241, but what I really am is a fascism-hating troll, and thus a Putin-hating troll. I am far left, and I think Bernie was/is “fake left” to be involved with Manafort and Putin, and I was/am disgusted by the toxic misogyny directed at a woman equally if not more progressive than Bernie. Btw, I did once give him and Tad $27, before the scales fell from my eyes when reading his NYDN interview. In a forced choice with Trump, obviously I would vote for Bernie.

by Anonymousreply 243December 24, 2018 6:36 PM

r242....Yes, he can. Each Justice is assigned a district....they hear individual requests and can either deny intervention, over rule a decision, or refer it to the entire court....which Roberts did. The decision is due by Dec 31. IT IS STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE.

I’m thinking the cheeto’s days in office might be moving to a close now. If the market keeps tanking - he’ll be deposed. The uber rich were all very happy to get huge tax cuts and have various regulations cut or altered - and arguably that was why he/the repugs had their support. But they can’t be happy about the market. And if it continues - their support will get pulled and he’ll be ousted.

Even rich oligarchs from Russia don’t wanna see the world’s economy tank - you think they wanna see the value of their ill-gotten gains decline?

just follow the money...

Oh: re: Mnuchin - the other day I was watching that Man from Uncle movie that flopped big time at the box office a few years ago. It’s a guilty pleasure. Lotsa great eye candy - and gorgeous frocks! But I noticed in the credits who of of the main producers was - Steven Mnuchin. The same guy who is now phoning banks and telling them that everything is just fine... yeah. Like he’d know zip with his qualifications and track record. Best people my ass!

As for the rest of them - lock them up. No parole le. And strip all their assets - including any bullshit family trust arrangements. The only reason they can’t be tried for treason is that we’re not officially at war with Russia and the rest. But their behaviour is certainly treasonous nonetheless. by Anonymousreply 274December 24, 2018 11:03 PM

Pence will be in for a hot minute after an impeachment so he can pardon them all. Paul Lyin' and McTurtle will suppress all the evidence of their NRA/Russian donated funding and squeak on by any legal punishment.

After the Iran/contra affair I have no fucking faith that this country will do the right thing until the Dems are completely in charge, and even then the banksters who engineered the 2007/2008 recession went completely unpunished by Obama's administration.

My deepest hope is that Mueller and others of that generation have the same disgust with the lack of accountability for these high crimes.

We're in for some hard times coming up and I hope everyone is hanging in there. I want immediate impeachment. We cannot handle this any longer.

Sen. Claire McCaskill, the Missouri Democrat who was defeated in the midterm elections, is leaving Washington D.C. in a blaze of candor.

And in her latest exit remarks, in an interview with CNN, she blasted Republicans for refusing to stand up to President Donald Trump.

“Now they’ll tell you, if it’s just the two of you, ‘The guy is nuts, he doesn’t have a grasp of the issues, he’s making rash decisions, he’s not listening to people who know the subject matter,’ ” McCaskill said. “But in public if they go after him, they know they get a primary.”

“This is a completely different Republican party,” she said. “Now, I think history will judge some of my colleagues harshly that they didn’t stand up to this President at some of the moments where he has been unhinged about particularly the rule of law.”

McCaskill singled out Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, who has at times aligned with Trump: “It’s kind of weird to me, I don’t know what happened with Lindsey.”

“This is Donald Trump’s Republican Party,” she added. “Make no mistake about it.” “I mean, he’s almost the master of, ‘I’m going to do so much stuff that’s crazy that nobody notices crazy anymore,'” she said.

The senator also recalled — with the help of expletives — the halcyon days of October, when Kanye West made a White House cameo.

“I mean, Kanye West was in the Oval Office M-F—ing on live TV,” McCaskill said. “I mean, think about that. That is crazy weird. Can you imagine would have happened if that happened during the Obama years? … The lid would have blown off this place.”

Why does Lindsey Graham use a pic of Kavanaugh with himself as his Twitter account pic and the pic for screen ID on each tweet now?

That's weird.

Just caught this little bit in a movie trivia page for Never Say Never Again:

During the closing credits, there's a "Thanks A.K." listed. This refers to Adnan Khashoggi, the Saudi arms dealer who allowed them to film aboard his 282 yacht, the "Nabila". [bold]He later sold this yacht to Donald Trump, who renamed it the "Trump Princess". It is currently owned by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia. [/bold]

Adnan Khashoggi's nephew has been in the news recently, since October 2. You may have heard.

Alwaleed, a nephew of the current, addled, king--and cousin of enfant terrible and Jared bestie Mohammed bin Salman--was released from imprisonment in the Riyadh Ritz Carlton after paying $6 billion. His dad just died.

This is the milieux of Individual-1.

The yacht inspired a song by Queen, "Khashoggi's Ship."

I was right, R354, this story is blowing up all over the place. The Youtube video has gone viral.

by Anonymousreply 362December 25, 2018 10:38 PM

Big extended family Christmas the last few days, and I heard:

My niece's uneducated Trump-voting mother-in-law state how Trump is stupid, especially about that wall. "What an idiot!" Of course, she did say, "Those Mexicans can slip through anything" but she was making it clear she is over Trump.

My MAGA hat uncle did not wear his MAGA hat and acted like he'd always thought Trump was a fool. His 24 year old son is not out of the closet to him yet (to me, of course, he is, as well as the rest of the world including his mother, my uncle's ex-wife) but my uncle "knows" his son is gay and this has most likely started swaying him around.

My sister always denied voting for Trump but I know she did. She's very influenced by the rich people she works with. Well, those people have started treating her like peon trash (and she's a vice president in their bank!) so she's realized that THEY don't give a fuck about US. She was constantly trashing Trump the last few days and making sure I heard her saying that she voted for Beto and straight ticket Democratic Party in November!

My 26 year old niece used to be a Colby Keller type wanting it all burned down, blah blah blah. Typical Millennial. BernieBitch. But in the last two years since that horrid election, she's changed into a true Liberal and actually caring about other people finally. She was making fun of the QAnon people she used to hang out with online. She's especially infuriated with Trump about the wall and the children being hurt.

SOME people are seeing what the world is really like and how Trump has affected their lives negatively. And they are waking up.

by Anonymousreply 363December 25, 2018 10:45 PM

thanks for the scoop, r363.

Hopefully they will stay awake (not quite woke yet) and not vote this idiot or any other rethug.

The loss of the MAGAt hat is a good sign.

by Anonymousreply 364December 25, 2018 10:51 PM

Oh, I forgot: My MAGA hat uncle told some joke and I always cringe listening to him tell them (or walk away) since they are always about stupid libruls, Crooked Hillary, etc. Well, last night he told a joke where the punchline was basically that Trump is far worse than Hillary.

I don't remember the joke to retell it here properly. Again, I think he was saying that joke as a signal to me that I didn't need to avoid him the whole time like I mostly have at these get-togethers the last two years.

by Anonymousreply 365December 25, 2018 11:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 369December 26, 2018 3:20 AM

R294, You are a dope. I happen to be a great fan of the Big Dawg, meeting him at rallies thrice, getting autograph. Obama was stymied a lot, true, but I think he squandered a chance to help the Middle Class in the face of illegal foreclosures, e.g. Also, he downplayed the legacy of FDR.

I think Bernie is exactly as parodied on SNL: a cranky old man who sees only an unreachable forest while ignoring the trees of workable reality.

R369 - I’m in awe of Pelosi too! One part of me feels bad that her and RBG have been fighting hard all their lives - you’d think they could just have a break! - they certainly deserve it! But I think there’s such a mess to try and fix - it’ll take a while! - and feelb they’re both doomed to die in the saddle so to speak. Not fair - but then life is not fair...

And I suspect that really - neither of them would have it any other way.

We’re in good hands with ‘em - but I hope they have some time to think about succession planning and nurturing and teaching some of the emerging talent. There are some amazing new people - but they need to be trained in the marinations of Washington DC. Fingers crossed!

R372 - R371 here!

Nah - actually sincere. Pelosi is one of the most experienced people in Congress - and understands the levers and mechanisms of power better than just about anyone on either side. It comes with the territory of growing up in a political family.

And I’m genuinely excited about the mix of talent that’s coming onboard since the midterms. I’m sick of government being run by faceless men in suits who have legal and banking backgrounds and interests and put corporate special interests above people. I wanna eventually see a fifty/fifty gender split in Congress. And a much broader range of ages and cultural backgrounds. Old straight white guys have had the reins of power for too long. Time for change.

The “marginal” story shows up in my news feed this morning with an article in People.

by Anonymousreply 375December 26, 2018 11:10 AM

This showed up in my news feed: Did a Queens Podiatrist Help Donald Trump Avoid Vietnam?

In the fall of 1968, Donald J. Trump received a timely diagnosis of bone spurs in his heels that led to his medical exemption from the military during Vietnam.

The podiatrist, Dr. Larry Braunstein, died in 2007. But his daughters say their father often told the story of coming to the aid of a young Mr. Trump during the Vietnam War as a favor to his father.

Elysa Braunstein said the implication from her father was that Mr. Trump did not have a disqualifying foot ailment. “But did he examine him? I don’t know,” she said.

Interesting comment from a Conservative client today. I work in the financial industry and had to make a follow-up call to to our initial conversation about markets and credit. The second time he answered he asked "Are you calling me to say that the President has shut his mouth? That he's resigned?"

Second kind-of-related story: My Brother-in-law, a Trump supporter, has been remodeling his kitchen and bathroom. Tore it all out in September to pour another pier, re-run plumbing and electricity, etc. Now that it is time to buy appliances and flooring, he also wishes DJT would shut the fuck up as tariffs could cost him 30% more. I'm sure he'd vote for Trump again.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Whitaker claimed the “Academic All-American” title for himself on a résumé he composed in 2014, on the biography for the website of his former law firm, and also on a 2010 application for an Iowa judgeship.

I'd rather have seen him fly into an actual combat zone. What a coward.

by Anonymousreply 427December 26, 2018 11:16 PM

I thought he ended up going to visit the troops because of all his recent bad publicity and that Haberman had clued in his press secretary in advance about the NYT draft dodging, bone spurs story, today. But I think the other theory stated somewhere up above, about his doing it also as a dodge, to return after the trip to Mar a Lago, instead of D.C. is probably the right explanation., If he goes to Mar a Lago it means he doesn’t have to return the New Year’s Eve exorbitant ticket money to the swells. Or it could be killing two birds with one stone. We shall soon see, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 428December 26, 2018 11:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 432December 26, 2018 11:51 PM

There is no way in hell that Iraq visit has been planned for six weeks. They’re lying as usual.

by Anonymousreply 433December 26, 2018 11:55 PM

Barron is at Mar-a-Lago. I bet they use that as the excuse to fly there. Melania flew down with him last Friday, then flew back to Washington without him. That should have been a clue! I wonder who looks after him? I don't think his siblings give a damn.

by Anonymousreply 434December 26, 2018 11:57 PM

Could it be some sort of spy drop-off by a third party on behalf of Putin? Like, Trump got the message to go there knowing it is “above suspicion”, and meets a contact?

by Anonymousreply 435December 27, 2018 12:06 AM

Exactly why this wasn't a planned trip to Iraq. It's in response to the podiatrist faking it for him news.

Why would Melanie fly to Maralardass and then back if this shit was planned?

by Anonymousreply 445December 27, 2018 1:42 AM

Dotard is not trying to detract from the Bone Spurs outing. He doesn't care about that. There has to be something else he's desperately worried about.

by Anonymousreply 446December 27, 2018 1:44 AM

Don't be so sure, R445. They've focused their limited resources into investigating and weaponizing sonic and optic applications and you never underestimate a military opponent.

If ol' Bone spurs can believe North Korea is capable of ICBM launches (which they aren't), he'd better believe this, BS or not.

I'll reserve judgment on the reality of these weapons when our former allies confirm it. I can't trust anything coming out of this administration.

by Anonymousreply 447December 27, 2018 1:48 AM

I think it’s a Putin-requested assignation.

How coincidental that Putin just announced a new nuclear weapon today. It’s optics.

by Anonymousreply 448December 27, 2018 1:49 AM

Well that's the thing innit, R447? We don't know, and Putin plays off that.

I suspect it's total horseshit, but I'll admit that's speculation without evidence. But it's a lot cheaper to scare enemies with vaporware weapons you pretend to build, yes?

by Anonymousreply 449December 27, 2018 2:02 AM

And if Putin's built weapons the West has no defense against there's not much to be done except surrender, is there?

by Anonymousreply 454December 27, 2018 3:09 AM

by Anonymousreply 456December 27, 2018 3:59 AM

R432 et al, Planned for 6 weeks is not the same as the idea for the trip started 6 weeks ago. No doubt it was accelerated for Trump's convenience, but it must have been in the works.

They really can't pull off trips like this at the last minute. Especially not with military in a war zone. So even though they likely haven't been planning this specific day-after-Christmas trip for 6 weeks, they've been working on logistics, personnel, etc. for a while.

I have no doubt believing that 6 weeks ago his handlers said "OK, no matter how much he screams, we have to make a military trip happen" and just started working on it, figuring they'd convince him when the time came. How it went down since then, who knows. I'd have no problem believing they snuck him a sedative to get him on the plane. Or maybe he screamed "get me a good photo op!" and they said "oh, we have the PERFECT idea ready to go!"

NBC: Probe of Trump's charity could crash 'like a Mack Truck' into his real estate empire

The New York state investigations into the Trump Foundation "charity" could envelop the president's namesake business.

"Nothing but overlap here. It all was held so tightly by he and his family members," NBC News/MSNBC legal analyst Glenn Kirschner, a former federal prosecutor, told NBC News.

"I don't think there will be any investigative daylight between what the New York state authorities and investigators are looking into with respect to the foundation vs. the organization vs. anything else involving business dealings that have the name 'Trump' attached to them," he said, predicting that the foundation investigation will "crash through (the Trump Organization) like a Mack Truck."

Technically, if the phone was "outside of" Prague, maybe Davis considered that the same as not being in Prague. Splitting hairs.

I'm curious to see how Fox handles this. They've been dropping little anti-Trump bread crumbs - railing against the decision to withdraw from Syria, and saying the wall will never be built because of the eminent domain problems. They've stuck by their anti-Mueller crusade (probably because the Mueller investigation is bigger than Trump), so I'm curious how they will handle Cohen.

by Anonymousreply 484December 27, 2018 4:18 PM

I wonder if this is Cohen is what trying to hide. Remember, Mueller/New York prosecutor team said he is not disclosing all and they are not sure that he is telling the truth about everything. The press kept saying there is something big that Cohen is afraid of disclosing and he is willing to go to prison instead. I bet that is about Prague. This would be a big time crime on his part as well. But I would imagine he could still be charged?

by Anonymousreply 490December 27, 2018 4:30 PM

One reason Cohen could have to lie is to cover up for treason. Do we actually have to be at war with a foreign nation in order for it to be treason?

I think the 18 minute gap on the Nixon tapes was when he was talking about sabotaging the Paris Peace talks. That was an act of treason and it is a capital offense.

by Anonymousreply 491December 27, 2018 4:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 494December 27, 2018 4:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 495December 27, 2018 4:59 PM
I think the 18 minute gap on the Nixon tapes was when he was talking about sabotaging the Paris Peace talks. That was an act of treason and it is a capital offense.

by Anonymousreply 501December 27, 2018 5:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 503December 27, 2018 5:32 PM

Sorry, I got the timeline wrong. The Republican convention was July 18-21, 2016. On July 27, Trump publicly asked Russia for help getting Hillary Clinton's emails, and the same day, Russians attempted to access Clinton campaign accounts. JaVanka were in Croatia around August 16. Cohen was allegedly in Prague in late August or early September, to talk about the hackers laying low.

by Anonymousreply 505December 27, 2018 5:37 PM

Cohen is definitely still hiding something.

by Anonymousreply 506December 27, 2018 6:01 PM

R506 - agreed. I think Cohen wants to give prosecutors the goods on the Trump related stuff - but they want him to spill on everything he knows about everything else - Trump’s various schemes weren’t the only nefarious stuff he was involved with - and while he’ll rat on Trump - he’s not prepared to rat on his father-in-law, the Russian mob guy with oligarch connections - and all the other Goodfellas.

Trump is one thing - but he’s not gonna give up his family - and will take jail time instead. Guess he’s hoping his Trump info will be so useful that it’ll offset him betraying his own - at least to a great extent. He’ll do some time - but at least he won’t die in prison - and no one he’s related to or friends with will be gunning for him when he emerges.

Why wouldn't Putin or one of the Ogliarchs pick up the check for the hacking? Aren't the hackers part of the Russian's KGB? I'm under the impression that those guys dont freelance.

Isn’t it the NY State Prosecutors that we’re claiming Cohen hasn’t been fully cooperative? Mueller’s office was quite complimentary of how helpful he’s been.

Also, remember how Lanny Davis gave an interview months ago saying Cohen had proof of Trump collusion? Then within a day, he retracted it completely?

I suspect the Prague story is true and already verified by Cohen to Mueller. But Mueller doesn’t want that info public yet so he came down hard on Lanny Davis the first time. That’s why Lanny won’t confirm the Prague story now.

The article is really interesting. So it was foreign intelligence agencies who intercepted/gathered some of this info. McClatchy has always been solid. They have been working on this story for a long time.

R511, the money wasn’t necessary for the hacking operation’s actual work — the hackers asked for money to make sure that Trump was fully implicated in the hacking. Russia’s overall goal was to make sure that Trump could be blackmailed.

Did anyone get the email from Bernie Sanders with the subject line, "If I Run..."

And in it he goes on to say that "Corporate Democrats" are out to get him and smear his name and are stealing his ideas like Medicare for All , Affordable college, etc?

Talk about sowing divisiveness.

by Anonymousreply 522December 27, 2018 8:05 PM

I want to know what it took to drag Vairst Leddy back from FL to DC in the first place.

That plus Trump's desperate posts, staged pics, the Santa phone bank and last-minute hop over to Iraq make me think there is someone or something cracking the whip. He's peddling fast and hard.

by Anonymousreply 523December 27, 2018 8:11 PM

It's actually from Bernie, R524. I've been getting emails from his campaign since 2016. Funnily enough, I had no idea why or how I got on their email list and then it dawned on me... they probably got my email from when they totally didn't steal HRC's DB info.

by Anonymousreply 528December 27, 2018 8:21 PM

R527, as far as I understood, the Trump company reimbursed Michael Cohen for paying Stormy and the other/s. So the money did come from Trump. Cohen just set up for him a complicated payment scheme with LLCs as intermediaries in order to cover up the source of money as much as possible.

by Anonymousreply 529December 27, 2018 8:29 PM

Yeah the fact that Bone Spurs paid Cohen back for the Stormy stuff is what makes it a problem for him.

by Anonymousreply 530December 27, 2018 8:36 PM

The Dems need to be united like never before. No going after other Dems (leftist, moderates, centrists, socialists, corporate). We all need to be a wall (that Mexico will not pay for) against the inevitable push back conservatives will do once the Mueller report drops especially if it snags conservative orgs like Heritage, NRA, FNC, Evangelical mega-churches and high ranking repugs.

It is so nice to be on this site where trolls are so easily spotted and dispatched.

I'd send something saucy to his Senate press officer, and copy the Burlington paper pointing out that those are American ideas, not Sanders's intellectual property; asking why an Independent is trying to sow divisiveness in the Democratic party; mentioning that everyone I talk to is over Bernie; and wondering what he's raising money for since he had no chance of mounting a credible campaign for President.

Couple messages like that will get noticed.

That story about Falwell Jr and the poolboy slipped from view pretty quickly - but I suspect it’ll become more important down the line.

Remember - Falwell was one of the first - if not the very first - of the evangelicals to really boost for the Cheeto - and Cohen was involved in the poolboy payoff in some capacity. Clearly Falwell was being blackmailed. Who knows how much dirty laundry they had on others as well - sex drugs - or just lots and lots of money! - you know that so many key players were blackmailed into cooperating - and still are.

Hope we get to here more about this!
