Oh, it’s known.

He wasn’t.

As mentioned in the other thread, they’d be screaming from the rooftops “the dadgum vaccine ain’t work!!” if he was vaxxed.

by Anonymousreply 4September 8, 2021 1:54 PM

Yeah, R1. I can’t imagine dying where you feel like you’re drowning. That thought alone was enough to get double vaxxed. You can’t live on a diet of Cheetos and Big Gulps and think your immune system is invincible.

by Anonymousreply 5September 8, 2021 1:59 PM

I truly don't wish covid on anyone. But what's it going to take? Whose death will help tip the scales? Because vaccine and covid deniers don't seem to have much impact. Children on ventilators hasn't done the trick.

These Gofundmes remind me of the money jihadists raise for widows and orphans of their fighters.

by Anonymousreply 9September 8, 2021 4:07 PM

R7/R8 - she was extremely irresponsible if she was going out and about 7 months pregnant and knowingly was unvaxxed. I don't buy that she got it from a water park - it was some family gathering and she got it from someone with no symptoms. Again - she should have known better.

I honestly feel nothing for any of these people dying. Absolutely nothing. They're keeping the rest of us locked up and doing preventative measures because of some unfounded fear of the vaccine.

Fuck them all. The virus is now weeding out all of the right people from what I see. We needed a purge of the stupid.

I've gone to the Facebook pages of a few of these people, or of tgeir friends posting updates on them, and commented, "All this could have been avoided if he [or she] had just gotten vaccinated against Covid in the first place." Every time, I have been called cruel and heartless for simply stating that. They only thing they want is "prayers lifted up" and the little "praying hands" emoticon. They are not interested in the truth or facts or anything remotely like that.

by Anonymousreply 13September 8, 2021 4:35 PM

R13, ask them why they didn’t accept God’s gift of a vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 16September 8, 2021 7:44 PM

R8

The vaccine is safe and effective during pregnancy and strongly recommended.

Covid during pregnancy is extremely dangerous.

The risk of preterm birth is [quote]40 percent higher in those with infection. For those who also had hypertension, diabetes and/or obesity as well as COVID-19, the risk of preterm birth rose 160 percent.

Only women influenced by misinformation would refuse to be vaccinated during pregnancy.

I did say he went against God's will by refusing the vaccine. They replied:

[quote]"This was a request for prayers. That's the priority here. Your position on the vaccine is irrelevant. How about just praying for him instead of interjecting your smug assessment while on shaky moral high ground?"

and

[quote]"You do know, with the vax you can still get covid, and be contagious. I've had two patients die after being vaxed."

and

[quote]"I have a nurse friend, and half of all covid patients in ICU are vaccinated."

and

[quote]"Yeah, and you are the arbiter of God's will, very arrogant statement."

although someone else did comment

[quote]"And how many UNvaccinated patients have died?"

I'm replying with a link showing the statistics that most deaths now are among the unvaccinated. But other than that I am done with engaging these people. Their entire religious/political subculture is a cult, and there is no reasoning with them. They are stuck in their beliefs.

by Anonymousreply 18September 8, 2021 8:25 PM

[quote]Radicalized Christian nationalism is one of the biggest threats facing the US. Christian leaders need to root the extremism from their communities.

All of this is rooted in religious extremism and either ignored or directly encouraged by "Christian" leadership: Pro-pandemic behavior, Qanon and its myriad offshoot conspiracies, Trumpism, white domestic terrorism, etc.

We need to call it what it is, pressure faith leaders to reform, fund the IRS, and demand reform in religious tax law.

by Anonymousreply 43September 9, 2021 9:31 AM

I wonder if any family members of these people who have died have changed their minds about Covid and vaccines or do they still deny reality?

by Anonymousreply 44September 9, 2021 10:53 AM

Seems to be a mixed bag.

Some families have said (typing through tears) they’ve changed their stance and to please get vaccinated.

Others are simply in denial it was even COVID.

by Anonymousreply 45September 9, 2021 11:08 AM

r42 Don't most schools require vaccinations for things like mumps, measles, and the usual childhood diseases? How did she manage to avoid that if she can't handle needles? And how does she get blood drawn?

by Anonymousreply 46September 9, 2021 1:20 PM

The board of the Los Angeles Unified School District is expected to approve a plan today that requires all public school children 12 and older to be fully vaccinated by January – sooner for students involved in many extracurricular activities.

With 600,000+ students, it's the second largest school district in the country.

Let's hope it starts a trend.

by Anonymousreply 47September 9, 2021 1:25 PM

R45 - they may have changed their tune on the vaccine, but it's not in very strong language. It's just please get vaccinated - no mention of "I was wrong" and "this information I spread around was bullshit and harmful". No sense of self-responsibility for spreading the garbage and misinformation around.

Only a handful I've seen were truly remorseful for their actions.

If it weren't for the harmful impact on our overloaded health care system and for health care workers, I would wish they wouldn't even change their stance. Just let the virus take many of these people out.

by Anonymousreply 48September 9, 2021 2:30 PM

Step-dad's brother died of COVID. Perfect example of an antivaxxer in action: don't tread on me sign, protested the vaccine, 'muh libertiez' attitdue, in his 60s and overweight. He stayed in ICU for a month and lasted 2 days on a vent before having a stroke and dying. His wife and kids are begging for $$$ via GFM and Cashapp and refusing to tell people exactly why he died. They're claiming he died of a stroke and not COVID. Dumbasses the lot of them.

by Anonymousreply 52September 9, 2021 2:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 53September 9, 2021 5:42 PM

[quote]I wonder if any family members of these people who have died have changed their minds about Covid and vaccines or do they still deny reality?

There was a post on a previous thread about a woman whose 30-year-old son died of Covid and who was still a virulent anti-vaxxer. That's how insane these people are.

by Anonymousreply 54September 9, 2021 5:50 PM

I enjoy the fact that they're getting Covid and dying. They had all the information and opportunities they needed in order to get vaccinated. They made a choice not to do so and now they're dead of Covid.

Buh-bye. We won't miss you and we don't wish you were still here. Regrettably, you took up valuable medical resources on your way out but I guess we'll just deal with that.

I'm definitely not contributing to any damn organized begging website for these fucking morons. Good riddance to dumb rubbish.

by Anonymousreply 72September 10, 2021 5:17 AM

It seems that R59 may not actually have died of COVID. He seems to have had many health problems for years, and the GoFundMe indicates that what took him out was a condition for which no surgery was possible. "Most of you know Grace spent every day for many years running between work and home to care for her daughters and then off to rehabs, hospitals etc. to care for Jim with staying many hours after visiting time was over just to be by his side so he was not alone. As with many families Covid proved to be a very hard time for visits they would sit outside even in the cold by his window and speak on the phone so he would not be alone even bringing the pets so Jim can say hello to them.

In the last couple of weeks, they were told to prepare themselves for Jim’s time coming closer. That is something no family wants to hear but they had to deal with. The pain Jim was in was taking a toll on him, along with his other health issues his heart and kidneys were failing, and no surgery was possible. Jim finally said he no longer wanted to be on any machines and wanted nature to take its course. I believe that not only did Jim no longer want to suffer he wanted to stop his family from suffering too. Again, being a good husband and father thinking of his family in a way I pray none of us ever have to."

by Anonymousreply 74September 10, 2021 12:00 PM

Before COVID I would have never believed there were so many poorly trained and informed nurses who were actually anti-science.

They want to die on this 'unproven, rushed' vaccine position? Let them. Despite hundreds of millions of injections in the US alone without incident, despite seeing the severely contrasting difference between hospitalized vaxxed and unvaxxed patients.

It's just a right-wing pity party, isn't it? And I'm sorry, wearing a peace symbol on your protective gear doesn't mean shit.

by Anonymousreply 75September 10, 2021 12:54 PM

This family says that the dad/husband has been in the hospital since August 13th due to covid complications and pancreatitis. Vaccination isn't mentioned. He has been intubated, but there are plans for him to get a tracheotomy and peg tube.

They are asking for 150k. From the gofundme introduction, he has worked as a teacher for 25 years and they are hoping he can teach again. The wife says they need money for the family's living expenses, no mention if she works or has ever worked. It seems they were highly dependent on his teaching salary. The two kids appear to be teens or possibly early 20s and the small child in the pic is the granddaughter. I get the vibe the GFM is probably to mostly benefit the wife

by Anonymousreply 84September 11, 2021 6:29 PM

My father's pharmacist told him he didn't need the vaccine, as he'd already been infected. He was also told that there was no proof the vaccine provided long-lasting benefit. This occurred as Delta had already begun spreading in a rural 80% trump-voting county.

I explained that having the vaccine after infection gives the greatest protection possible, people are getting reinfected quickly, Delta is much more contagious, and that he might spread it to a cancer patient or kid.

He's not a fundie or Republican and thinks trump is garbage but has spent his whole life surrounded by asshole morons. He wasn't defensive about the vax but I don't know if I got through. I'm fucking livid at these death cultists.

Some vaccine particles got breathed out by a vaccinated person or, maybe, they were just floating in the air when he went to Walgreens for his weekly pound of jerky but, either way, the vaccine done did killed him. Spread the danger of floating vaccine particles far and near, Dee. We need to get everyone who isn't vaccinated to understand that they have to hold their breath until Covid is over. There's just no other option.

R98, there are people who are getting vaccinated because of what’s happening to their families and neighbors, since the virus has now hit their area, but I don’t know the percentages at all, and I suspect what you say has a large ring of truth. Those that haven’t been affected are actually digging in deeper and coming up with scenarios that defy logic (people being killed by hospitals for money).

[quote] Where is all this GFM money coming from? It appears to be very lucrative to beg on GFM.

It's seems the donors are combination of people who are in the same social circles as families/person who has covid or died from covid or strangers who just feel sorry for the people/families. From what I've seen it varies, so me GFMs go over the fundraising and some don't come close to meeting the goal.

The GFM for the cop from Florida who needs a lung transplant has donations from different law enforcement agencies and businesses. They have gone over the 100k goal. If you read the comments, several donors mention that they are donating because they are cops or have cops in their families.

The GFM for the 5 kids in soCal of the parents died from covid has raised 266k. A lot the comments on GFM are from people who didn't know them, but have seen the story on news outlets. Somewhere there, one guy left a comment saying that the deaths could have possibly been prevented if the parents had vaxxed.

I think some people will become compassion or covid fatigued at some point and might not want to continue donating to covid related GFMs if people in their professional circles, church circles etc remain unvaxxed and end up hospitalized or dead due to covid. Some people in the anti-vax crowd probably won't be able to consistently donate money to others in the anti-vax crowd. Some people only have so much money to give.

Most of my relatives and friends have been vaccinated. There are few who say they will not vaccinate. One is my dumb ass cousin who constantly whines bout being broke. She has been evicted a few times and having to live with other relatives for periods of time. She also claims that her ex doesn't pay child support. When her kids were on remote learning she bitched constantly on Facebook about her electricity bill skyrocketed because of them. A couple of weeks ago, she whined because her kids had to return to remote learning because there were covid cases at their school and whining about needing an extra computer and she can't afford it. and the electrical bill rising She's also doing anti-vax Facebook posts and her two kids can get vaxxed because they are over 12. I figure if she gets covid or one of kids gets covid and ends up hospitalized, a GFM will pop up right away.

This one ... wow. Morbidly obese dad and fat mom (who are under 40) die within days of each other because they wouldn't get the shot. Eight-year-old shipped off to start a new life with relatives.

No will, no life insurance, but OF COURSE a GoFundMe.

About 3,000 members of the LAPD refuse to get vaccinated. About half the LAFD, too. Their unions are fighting mandatory vaccinations (LA Times). Aren’t these dipshits supposed to protect and serve? What in the actual fuck is wrong with these people?

by Anonymousreply 112September 16, 2021 4:19 AM

R112 I think those cops and firefighters are more concerned with their freedumb than protecting and serving others. There have been plenty of news stories about cops in various cities and state law enforcement agencies refusing vaccination or stories about some law enforcement agencies have low vax rates. More Gofundmes for anti-vax cops will probably pop up in the next month or so.

I know. Prayer Warriors are so lazy. They show up to the social media or GFM page with their emojis and fifth-grade grammar, and that's all they have to offer. Otherwise, they're just as self-centered as the person they're "praying" for. It's like a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia.

by Anonymousreply 115September 16, 2021 5:39 AM

The intro on this GFM is one of the most frustrating things to read. The sister of the guy admits he isn't vaccinated and he went to Hawaii. Of course, cash is needed for medical bills and the wife's expenses in Hawaii. The dumb fucker went on vacation unvaxxed. I know several fully vaxxed people who aren't vacationing this year because they have concerns about variants and surges.

[quote]My name is Leilani Filipanko, I am the sister of Christopher Cordero (48) who is now not only fighting for every minute but possibly for his life and is in need of not only a spiritual miracle but also financial help. While on a much delayed and deserved vacation in Hawaii with his wife, Christopher, although unvaccinated by personal choice, began to experience flu-like symptoms and difficulty in breathing. After going to a local hospital he was quickly admitted with not only pneumonia but also covid 19. After only a few days of moderate treatment he quickly progressed into a critical status and needed to be intubated (assisted breathing tube). Within only 24 hours of that, it was determined that he was in need of a more aggressive and advanced treatment of what may possibly be a last (possibly life-saving) ditch effort treatment with what is known as an ECMO machine which literally takes control of his entire body (heart, lungs, and blood circulation).

[quote]So please if you can assist them not only financially but also in prayer, anything you can help with is greatly appreciated. Christopher along with his wife and family Thank you in advance..

There's not enough emphasis on the fact that these STUPID SELFISH FUCKERS are hogging up hospital beds and blocking people with true unpreventable medical emergencies from being treated.

This is a story about a 12-year-old who waited six hours in the ER with appendicitis. He could not be seen because all the beds were occupied with Covidiots. He was ultimately transferred to another hospital for surgery, at which point his appendix had ruptured. He could have died.

My mother died of cancer. Toward the end, she had to be treated in the ER for pain and trouble breathing. If it were happening today, would she just have to suffer and die in the lobby?

My whole family is vaccinated. But I swear to God — if any of them have a medical emergency and can't get treated because of Covidiots, I will seriously go postal. I will mow down every anti-vaxxer I can find.

Instead of relaying the daily Covid numbers, why can the TV news networks lead with one of these stories about people, like the kid whose appendix burst waiting for a bed, or the woman who lost a child because her boss chose to endanger everyone at the office, or the veteran who died after not being able to get a hospital bed. I think these stories would urge the public to confront the anti-maskers and the unvaccinated. Shame can be very powerful.

It may be their right to ignore mask mandates or not to get vaccinated, but when they kill someone because their freedoms are "at risk", they should be charged with murder.

Haven't any of these people heard of life insurance? If someone else is dependent on your income, you need life insurance. It's not that expensive if you're young.

by Anonymousreply 178September 18, 2021 9:06 PM

R178 I think a lot of these people don't think anything bad will ever happen to them. Based from reading from reading Herman Cain Award threads on subreddit, a lot of the covidiots were more concerned with having a bunch of kids, spending a bunch of money on various pairs of Oakley sunglasses, going to Trump rallies in other states, college football games, hunting/fishing trips, the Capitol, having expensive trucks, and SUVs. They probably lived above their means and probably gave little thought to life insurance or how their families would survive without them.

I came across this GFM, the wife and mother is on vent. The GFM organizer gives a summary of the some of the expenses, the woman's husband is dealing with. Some of the expenses will likely end up being higher than what they're estimating. They factor in lost wages because the husband also had covid and has been unable to work as he also has to care for the kids. The couple also a bought new house and mortgage payment is $1800. Rehab is listed an expense. I would say if this woman does survive, the rehab/therapy costs will be a lot more than $10 gas money per appointment.

by Anonymousreply 182September 19, 2021 11:42 AM

Or, the families are just greedy.

by Anonymousreply 183September 19, 2021 12:03 PM

R183, that’s unfair. Just a point about some of these GFM—the grandparents of those kids that were orphaned are now looking a years of unexpected expenses raising the kids. They may be retired, or close to retired, and on a fixed income. Even if the parents who passed away who put some money away, or had life insurance policies, it may not be enough—estimates are that it takes 250k-500k per kid, when including college, etc.

No matter what the parents did (and yes, they’re incredibly irresponsible) the kids are blameless. They’re orphaned because of their parents’ stupidity, and shouldn’t be punished for that. If people want to contribute to raising them, I’m ok with that.

by Anonymousreply 184September 19, 2021 3:07 PM

Be careful getting off that high horse of yours, r184.

R182 asked a generic question about firefighters and their benefits, including life insurance. How you decided to bring the kids and grandparents into it, i.e., a very specific case, is very frauish.

by Anonymousreply 185September 19, 2021 4:00 PM

I wondered about the firefighters with life insurance and pensions in the first thread. A firefighter in Nevada died. His widow put up a GFM for 100k and stated in one of the updates that she was hoping donations would allow her to only work part time. I remember posters wondered if she would be collecting a pension in addition to survivor's social security for herself and the two kids.

There have cops whose GFMs have high fundraising goals as well like the cop in Florida who needs a lung transplant.

by Anonymousreply 186September 19, 2021 5:02 PM

So GoFundMe is the new catch-all insurance plan?

by Anonymousreply 187September 19, 2021 9:37 PM

R185, I have no kids—and no skin off my nose whatever happens. What fucking high horse do you think I’m on? Their parents were idiots. I think the kids shouldn’t be punished for the parents’ stupidity. But looks like you’re ok with that.

If the US had proper safety nets and if vaccines were MANDATED, there would be no need for GFM.

by Anonymousreply 188September 19, 2021 10:09 PM

^ one additional note—I’m referring to kids that were orphaned, not families like the one at r186.

by Anonymousreply 189September 19, 2021 10:10 PM

[quote] I think the kids shouldn’t be punished for the parents’ stupidity. But looks like you’re ok with that.

You’re either very daft or just want to garner sympathy with the “won’t someone think of the children?!?!” response.

So I’ll explain again. The poster before me asked about firefighters benefits and why they would need a GFM if they had that already. I’m NOT discussing a particular case, nor a case in which kids were orphaned (that means neither of the parents are alive). I offered “some families may be greedy” as to why I think they are starting the GFMs in addition to getting benefits from their employer.

Regardless, kids often do pay for their parents stupidity and thousands of dollars isn’t going to change that.

by Anonymousreply 190September 19, 2021 10:24 PM

R190, I don’t know who the daft one is. You think I was referring to r182. I wasn’t, I was referring to r183. Reread my original post.

Holy shit, are you high?

by Anonymousreply 192September 19, 2021 10:53 PM

R183, what the hell? I’m not a mind reader, how the fuck do I know if you’re r182 AND r183? I was simply responding to r183 which posted that the families were being greedy. My response was it takes a fuckton of money to raise kids and if you’re grandparents now stuck with raising them (something you hadn’t planned for financially or emotionally), what’s the problem with asking for some help? Geez , I know three kids who were orphaned when their parents were killed in a car accident. And yes I gave some money to their grandparents. What’s the problem?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 201September 20, 2021 10:45 PM

That article doesn’t exactly say insurance won’t cover COVID hospitalizations. It’s pointing out how, even with insurance, a hospital stay can be expensive with co-pays and other fees, which had been waived up until now.

It’s not as though insurance companies are saying, “unless you’re vaccinated, we will not cover your hospitalization.”

by Anonymousreply 202September 20, 2021 10:55 PM

R202 The article says that the insurance co was covering the co-pays now they will no longer do that. I think the unvaccinated should be required to pay a larger percentage of their hospital bill.

by Anonymousreply 203September 20, 2021 11:09 PM

Good. I had an ER visit about 3 weeks pre-COVID. I ended up fine, basically just ambulance, then monitored and given fluids for about 8 hours. With my insurance: $150. I read the full bill when it came in: $7600.

by Anonymousreply 204September 20, 2021 11:12 PM

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’m with you. I would love for the insurance companies to do that.

The point is the feds were picking up the copays and now, with the proliferation of vaccines, the insurance companies are saying we’re going back to charging co-pays.

That’s a far cry, however, from we will not cover you if you’re not vaccinated.

by Anonymousreply 205September 20, 2021 11:13 PM

I don't think health insurers could get away with discriminating against the unvaccinated, given their tight relationship with the Republican party. However, they COULD do a lot to combat the anti-vaxx movement and other medical misinformation that leads to bad outcomes for Americans, and now that it's hurting their bottom line maybe they'll finally get around to doing something about it.

[quote] I don't think health insurers could get away with discriminating against the unvaccinated, given their tight relationship with the Republican party.

Health insurers will "discriminate" against the unvaccinated because the unvaccinated cost them a lot more money, and that’s all they care about.

Health insurance companies should increase premiums for unvaxxed people.

This one is too meta for me — attempting to jerk tears with a long list of events (and children) the unvaccinated patriarch would have been around for if he had just gotten vaccinated. And then there's the "unexpected result" that kicks the whole thing off.

[quote]Dr. Javier Castaneda, a very beloved husband and father to seven, friend, brother, uncle, son and principal returned to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 15. This was an unexpected result of COVID 19 illness. He has left behind his oldest daughter engaged to be married in a few weeks; his second oldest daughter expecting their first grandbaby any day; his son serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His third oldest daughter graduated this summer and was working at his school with him. His youngest three are still living at home.

Also, he was the principal of a school that was sanctioned for low performance. The kids can't read or write, but they all know how to spell "freedumb."

[quote]Idaho Public Charter School Commission marked Heritage Community Charter School academic performances as requiring “remediation.” The commission renewed Heritage’s charter in March 2018 on the condition that 57 percent of K-8 students achieve math proficiency on the Idaho SAT within three years or by 10th grade and 63 percent of K-8 students achieve English Language Arts proficiency on the Idaho SAT within the same time period. Heritage must meet these conditions by June 30, 2021.

[quote] attempting to jerk tears with a long list of events (and children) the unvaccinated patriarch would have been around for if he had just gotten vaccinated.

That's become a common ploy on GFM to get strangers to donate. It probably works with some people who do feel sorry for the kids and the spouses. It's irritating as fuck how some of these GFM organizers talk about how the deceased people were always there for their kids and would do anything for them. But, getting vaccinated doesn't fall into that.

I saw this article on USA Today. No GFM for the deceased guy. His daughter states he was supposed to get the vaccinated the week he tested positive for covid. She lays on thick to jerk tears about how daddy would do anything for her and her brother. The daughter is a nurse. In the USA Today article, there's a link to another article about how she had been trying to find a hospital with ECMO machine. so he could get ECMO treatment The daughter comes off as quite entitled in both articles. Her dad could be vaccinated months ago once vaccines became more readily available. The whole thing about her searching all over the country for an ECMO machine is annoying because serious illness might have been prevented if he had taken the vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 214September 21, 2021 2:10 AM

The family in this article also reminds me of the woman in the above article. The family called around and pleased on TV for a hospital with an ECMO machine for their husband/dad and managed to get him transported from Florida to Connecticut. This guy unlike the guy at R214 survived, but is still in bad shape.

The nurse daughter of R214 and this guy's family are prime examples of entitled Karens. But, the nurse daughter didn't get what she wanted. The woman in this article got what she wanted. However, her husband will likely have health problems for the rest of his life.

My office has worked from home for the past year. About 6 women (out of 60) prefer to work in the office and so they do. My computer broke last winter and I had to work in the office. None of those bitches wore a mask. They all looked at me like I was crazy.

Now Covid has finally spread throughout the office to all 6 of those idiots got it. To be precise, one of those bitches got and infected everyone else. The one woman who has 2 developmentally disabled adult children has a severe case. She's been in the hospital 2 weeks and she's on a respirator. One of her sons has been taking a cab there everyday to see her and posts pictures of her on a respirator. She looks like she's dying. Because she is

Agreed, r219. I guess there are some people who are very anti-vaxx, while others are more lackadaisical/lazy in getting vaccinated. Maybe it’s out of sight, out of mind. But Florida has had problems with the pandemic since the beginning. These people have seen their neighbors get sick and die. I do not get why they wouldn’t jump at the chance to be vaccinated ASAP (I did).

There isn't a day that goes by where we don't get a notice that someone in that building has the plague and that if you were in the building in such and such date, you need to get tested.

Ashley Carvalho was a few hours into her night shift as a doctor in a Boise, Idaho, hospital earlier this month when she got a text from her fiancé asking how she was doing.

She thought of the abuse she’d received from one man’s angry family members, who had berated her for not treating him with ivermectin, a deworming drug falsely promoted as a cure in conspiracy circles but that the FDA has warned against using in COVID patients. She thought of how police had to remove the man’s family after his son-in-law told her, “If you don’t do this, I have a lot of ways to get people to do something, and they’re all sitting in my gun safe at home.”

Her eyes welling with tears, she took a selfie and sent it to her fiancé: “It’s going like this,” she wrote.

A lot of people are just too scared or cowardly to deal with things like Covid. They want to pretend that everything is normal, that no one is sick. They want to live their lives the way they always have. Things like masks are just a reminder of topics they don't want to think about. US DLers, I’m honestly not trying to start a political debate, but I was wondering: what is the situation with all the medical expenses being incurred for each of these covid cases? In that case at r255, the wife mentions intubation, ventilation, hospital transfer, dialysis, pacemakers, etc. Which all sounds really expensive stuff.

Is all of this covered by insurance? And what happens if you are uninsured? Is the government covering covid bills? Or are they written off if you die?

by Anonymousreply 256September 27, 2021 2:22 AM

[quote]Is all of this covered by insurance?

If you've got it, yes. Sounds like many of the current batch of unvaccinated/hospitalized don't, however.

[quote]And what happens if you are uninsured? Is the government covering covid bills? Or are they written off if you die?

Bankruptcy. One of the things driving hospital costs in the US is the number of people who declare bankruptcy on their bills. The hospitals overcharge on regular services to recoup their losses. US healthcare is a messed-up racket.

by Anonymousreply 257September 27, 2021 2:26 AM

Thanks r257. I’ve been really curious. I can’t imagine being so ill and realising that you are leaving your loved ones with a massive bill.

Can I ask one last round stupid questions: if you are married and die of covid, is your spouse liable for the bills? Bankruptcy in the UK would mean (I think) that you would lose everything including your home. Is it the same in the US?

by Anonymousreply 258September 27, 2021 2:34 AM

[quote]Can I ask one last round stupid questions: if you are married and die of covid, is your spouse liable for the bills?

Internet says: depends on what kind of bills and how you file for bankruptcy. I could be wrong, but I think if an individual files for bankruptcy on medical bills any joint assets are liquidated. The spouse isn't liable for costs beyond the value of joint assets (and many people filing for bankruptcy don't have significant assets).

They live in New Mexico and I wouldn't be surprised if the dumb fuck mom is a Michelle Lujan Grisham hater. I'll post their GFM in the next post. I'm surprised with a family that size they are only asking for 15k.

An antiviral was just recommended for FDA approval this week that significantly reduces the risk of hospitalization & death. Most of these idiots can avoid unnecessary death if they'll take this medication - which is news, and made by the same company that makes Ivermectin (Merck).

Should be interesting to see if this antiviral is the game-changer that it might be, and if these dipshits will take it before they require hospitalization.

by Anonymousreply 304October 4, 2021 1:54 AM

Some of the unvaccinated people who got covid received monoclonal treatments. If the antiviral pill becomes available some will jump at the chance to take it. There will still be the idiots who try to treat themselves with ivermectin, high doses of zinc, and vitamin C.

An update on the freedumb-loving family at R300:

While Kyle is still playing by the book — thoracostomy a couple of days ago; tracheostomy today — his father, who was recovering at home after having been released from the hospital midway through this saga, is now in the ICU and ventilated.

The person updating wants everyone to pray "for all of the medical professionals to have the wisdom and discernment for the courses of treatment for both Kyle and his dad."

What about the wisdom and discernment that led to the development of safe, effective, and free vaccines?

by Anonymousreply 315October 6, 2021 12:04 AM

The scary part of the Herman Cain Award subreddit is watching patients' verbal skills deteriorate on their FB posts. I'm not talking clumsy fingers, I'm talking brain damaged malapropisms as their bodies collapse like a rotting bridge.

by Anonymousreply 316October 6, 2021 12:10 AM

[quote] What about the wisdom and discernment that led to the development of safe, effective, and free vaccines?

My guess is that many of these people probably give no thought to the fact that there are scientists, physicians, and others working solely in research and development of vaccines and other treatments to prevent infection or alleviate covid issues. I think they tend to only think about the doctors and nurses working in hospitals. and clinics. I feel research physicians, scientists, and epidemiologists are ignored by some people.

I was raised Catholic. My parents had a friend from the parish who visited our home often. She died ten years ago. Her son worked in research for spinal cord injuries. She bought him a plaque of St. Albert who is patron saint of scientists to "provide him wisdom". I know the whole thing about praying to saints is ridiculous and kooky. I know that if my parents' friend was alive today, she would have got vaccinated for covid. She also leaned liberal in her political views. I think she would have loathed Catholics like Amy Coney Barrett and Paul Ryan. A former co-worker of mine is married to a Methodist minister. My co-worker and his wife are both quite liberal.. The minister wife had some Facebook post back in January about hoping that the vaccines would be effective against covid and slowing the spread and that she was going to vaccinated as soon she was eligible.

I would say that many anti-vax Christian types only going to running to science and doctors when it's needed and they pretty much ignore resources like vaccines that could have prevented them being hospitalized with fucking tubes down their throats. There was thread on the Herman Caine Award subreddit about a homophobic Christian anti-vaxxer who had been working in a church bookstore. She had taken antibody treatment before her death. Someone posted that it was funny how she rejected vaccination, but took the antibody treatment without question.

by Anonymousreply 317October 6, 2021 2:34 AM

[quote]Someone posted that it was funny how she rejected vaccination, but took the antibody treatment without question.

Yes, that's been a recurring theme. I used to love hearing colleagues talk about the full and detailed disclosure they made their bug-chaser patients listen to before putting them on a baricitinib-remdesivir cocktail.

They would explain that that particular combination is only available under an EUA and, unlike the Pfizer vaccine, hasn't received FDA approval. They'd list the potential side effects of each drug, both separately and when combined. They'd talk about the small number of clinical-trial participants compared to vaccines' clinical trials, and so much more

Basically, they used every argument these people had for not getting vaccinated and applied it, honestly and factually, to something they were desperate to get. The response was always: I don't care....just give it to me!

R351 is the most disgusting one yet. People with Down syndrome carry within them the perfect storm for a poor outcome. It’s so bad that 40-year-old COVID patients have outcomes similar to people twice their age.

Half are born with heart anomalies which can usually be surgically improved in childhood, but will never be 100%. Then they have wonky immune systems and just weird internal malformations throughout their bodies, including the human version of a bulldog’s upper airway.

The parents know all of this, and they know how vulnerable their kid is to even catching a stupid cold and having it spiral into pneumonia, because, I guarantee, they’ve been there before.

I cant even comprehend this. Couldn’t they just vaccinate the kid secretly and keep posting their “muh freedums!” shit on Facebook?

I kind of laughed how a GFM is set up for this family, but they mention the restored cars and how the guy also used to quietly pay fees for kids who couldn't afford fees to play on a football team. CRRT is just connected to his ECMO machine, so no additional insertion site on his body is needed.

On the radio, they mentioned a 63 year old man in Alberta, Canada who had gotten a double lung transplant five years ago and a second chance at life. He and his wife got fully vaccinated as soon as possible. They argued with their family about the importance of vaccination. I wouldn't be surprised if they're evangelicals but the reporter didn't say. One son finally went for the shot in July after his dad convinced him. He's had plenty of time to get the second shot but he obviously didn't think it was important. In early September, the 63 year old dad agreed to have a photo taken outdoors with his two kids, their spouses and five grandchildren. It turns out the dad and his wife were the only ones who were fully vaccinated. Not long after, half of the family got sick with covid. They only mentioned a photoshoot but I wouldn't be surprised if there was socializing and maybe even a dinner. The dad has been in an Edmonton hospital for two weeks and is on oxygen. He said things could take a turn for the worse and he may die. He thinks that his being hospitalized with covid probably still hasn't changed his family's views about the virus and vaccination. His son who only bothered to get one shot was blubbering on the radio about how his dad is his hero.

Please pray for me, for our kids, for our families, how am I hear doing this for my 36 year old husband? I don’t know why… I don’t understand…

Pray for peace, wisdom, and God’s strength to trust His plan.

Apparently FEMA is giving up to 9K per funeral. That's tight, but if you can't bury someone for 9K, pull up your bootstraps.

by Anonymousreply 403October 10, 2021 7:19 PM

Isn’t taking gub’mint money for a funeral (or for any reason) the dreaded socialism?

I’m sure Scott, or Paul, or Mel, or whatever the fuck his name was wouldn’t have approved.

But I guess it’s ok when YOU need it, though.

A 15-year-old boy collapsed and died whilst playing football four days after he had been given a second dose of the Pfizer mRNA Covid-19 injection.

The boy sadly lost his life on the 22nd July 2021 according to a Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System report submitted on the 23rd July. The report, which can be found here under VAERS ID: 1498080, states that the child “collapsed on [a] soccer field while playing soccer at a local camp”.

CPR was then reportedly started immediately before emergency services arrived and transported him to a medical centre. However, the boy sadly passed away.

The VAERS report states the reason the boy collapsed was due to ventricular tachycardia; a condition which begins in the heart’s lower chambers, called the ventricles, causing a fast abnormal heartbeat defined as 3 or more heartbeats in a row, at a rate of more than 100 beats a minute.

If ventricular tachycardia persists for more than a few seconds at a time then it can become life-threatening, as the parents of this young boy have sadly discovered.

Kyle update:

A pastor came from Texas to pray over Kyle. Cathy also came from Texas to pray. Please pray that the CRRT will continue working.

Please pray for Kyle’s dad (a dentist with a PhD in microbiology). He’s still ventilated, his blood pressure has dropped, and his kidneys have crashed. Pray that god will restore his kidneys via CRRT. Pray for his lungs. Also, pray that he bounces back by his birthday.

When you’re done with those prayers:

[quote]Would you please continue to pray fervently for our family and for Kyle and his dad’s recovery? Please pray that God will give both of their care teams extraordinary wisdom to make the right decisions for their treatment. The only thing we can do is pray and we believe in the power of prayer to see God’s miracles. God is still in control. Please pray that Kyle’s family will continue to hope, trust, and find strength in God.

Got all of that?

The Gary Spector gofundme is a mess. I loved the part about how he lost his last job because someone filed a racial complaint and how they didn't know his stepmother is Ronnie Spector. It reminded me of the "i have black friends" defense. Interesting, that he labeled her stepmother when she is/was adoptive mother. Ronnie said the adoption of Gary and his twin were a surprise and Phil facilitated the adoption without her knowledge. Ronnie said that Phil threatened to kill her if she didn't sign over custody of the twins to him.

Lori was also Harold's caretaker. He was behind on his rent and bills, and also didn't have enough for the cremation. Andrea, the woman running the GoFundMe, was under the impression that she couldn't withdraw any of the donations until the campaign was over, so she shut it down at $12,851.

According to GoFundMe's FAQ, that is not how it works. Withdrawals can be made at any time during an active campaign. People in the comments have used GoFundMe's form to contact Andrea, but the campaign remains closed.

R441, they had a story in Canada about an antivaxxer who caught covid, got very ill but eventually recovered. A rational person would conclude that their antivax beliefs are all wrong, that covid is serious and getting the vaccine is very important. When this guy was being released, he yelled at the doctors and nurses who had helped him that they had tried to kill him. Some people live in their own alternate reality. Perhaps many of Brandi's friends believe the hospital staff were responsible for her death by not giving her ivermectin.

For those trying to clean up last week's prayer checklist before the new week begins, here's a reminder:

[quote]So, can you please continue your fervent prayers for Kyle—that God would open impossible doors once again?

[quote]Pray that he would find a bed at a hospital that can do COVID lung transplants and that they find the right lung for him.

[quote]Please pray for hope, faith and comfort for the family in the midst of their deep sorrow and uphill battle.

[quote]We are still hoping and praying that God would heal his lungs miraculously. Or if it’s God’s will, please pray that Kyle would be able to meet all the criteria to be a lung recipient and that they would be able to find the right lung donor.

[quote]Please pray that Kyle will get the green light for him to be transported to Florida tomorrow!

[quote]Pray that a bed will open up in that hospital and for him to get there safely.

[quote]Pray that his kidneys and heart will remain stable until they can find the perfect pair of lungs for him!

[quote]And pray that Kyle’s mom and sister will be able to follow Kyle to Gainesville and figure out lodging and transportation, as they might have to stay there for a while until he gets better.

[quote]Would you please continue to pray that a bed will open up tomorrow and that Kyle would be able to be safely transferred to Florida?

[quote]Please pray that Kyle will remain calm and stable and that Kyle’s mom and sister would have safe travels to Florida as well.

Once $72,680 of $80,000 had been raised, the goal shot up to $250,000. Amen!

The update after this one states the son-in-law had to have another surgery due to bleeding due to the trachetomy and will have been intubated through the mouth. If the son-in-law has to do rehab and therapies, watch the guy whine and whine when those bills come in and his daughter is crying about money.

He kept aspirating on ice chips, juice, and puree when they tested him. He is upset because they will have to keep him on the feeding tube. The big blow today is the news that the insurance company has ordered Nate to be moved back to Kaiser Hospital because of the bill that had accumulated. We are nervous about this order but we have no choice but to go along with it because they told Taylor that if she refused, Taylor and Nate would have to pay for everything! I don't know what that would be, but I know the ECMO machine alone is reportedly $40,000 a day for 11-12 days alone, not to mention two hospitals, two ICU's, ventilator, several surgeries, and so on.....Can't imagine what that would be but they know most people would have no choice but to agree. And update on Kyle at R300:

[quote]Kyle’s heart stopped this morning as they were switching him to a travel ECMO to take him down for a CT scan. The good news is that CPR worked, and his heart was revived—Praise God! Now the difficult news: His new CT scan revealed his lungs have dissolved further and there are hardly any lung tissues left. Time is of the essence. We are still waiting for a bed at the Gainesville, FL hospital, but we also asked his care team to contact lung transplant hospitals in San Diego (where Kyles’ maternal grandmother and uncles live) for possible availability. Please pray with us that God would miraculously pave the way for Kyle to get a double-lung transplant quickly.

It should be required reading for anyone who thinks they're too young, thin, and healthy to waste time on vaccines.

by Anonymousreply 502October 26, 2021 10:21 AM

What do they mean by hardly any lung tissues left ? 😟

by Anonymousreply 503October 26, 2021 1:40 PM

So a little info about lung transplants. I know two people who died waiting. They are extremely difficult to come by. Their doctors told them beforehand that that was the case.. Not sure why, but of all organs, they’re the most difficult to find a match. It could be related to size, but maybe some DL docs can offer a better explanation. And they give you about 5-10 more years, that’s about it.

So waiting for lungs… not going to happen sadly.

As an outsider, one thing that strikes me about all these Go fund me posts are the number of mentions of Gid, in the most florid/effusive terms. Is this normal speech in the US, or reflective of a very devout religious viewpoint on the part of the writers?

by Anonymousreply 505October 26, 2021 2:11 PM

Even if Kyle gets a lung transplant, the rest of his life will be filled with him dependent on anti-rejection meds.

I read through some of the updates, his family comes off as quite entitled by making demands about the care team looking into transplant hospitals in San Diego, even though some hospital in Florida accepted him.

[quote]Is it possible they're not terribly bright?

It's a working theory, R514.

by Anonymousreply 515October 26, 2021 7:00 PM

Let them die. Tell the family "We're very sorry, but given his lack of responsibility when he knew there was a vaccine, when he knew the dangers, he is not a good candidate for a transplant. Recipients must follow strict protocols and a strict regimen after transplant. That he didn't believe the facts about this disease and the available protection disqualifies him. We can offer palliative care only."

Let. them. die.

It sounds cruel, maybe it is. But I think of an uncle, an alcoholic, who was denied a liver transplant. My mother was a match and willing to donate part of her liver. Unfortunately, he wouldn't stop drinking, and the medical team said no to performing the surgery.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 516October 26, 2021 9:24 PM

[quote]Not sure why, but of all organs, they’re the most difficult to find a match.

For starters, 75-80% of donor lungs are rejected as being unsuitable for transplant. For the those that make it through, they have to be very close in size to a transplant candidate's lungs. Unlike donated livers and kidneys, lungs and hearts have to be a proper fit for a recipient's ribcage, so size matters.

There's also blood and tissue typing; the recipient's age and health; quality-of-life questions; and psychological factors that would play into post-transplant compliance with medical advice (I realize I'm not supposed to feel the way, but unless there's a valid medical reason for it, I don't think unvaccinated COVID patients should even be up for consideration). The recipient's location is also a big factor with lungs because there's such a short window of viability.

When it gets to the actual transplantation surgery, COVID patients coming straight from ECMO are already a mess of inflammation and they're just looking for any excuse to bleed all over the place. Their surgeries tend to take twice as long and require double the blood transfusion of a "normal" lung recipient. They also have a higher rate of primary graft dysfunction.

What people might not realize is that most normal transplant candidates push themselves really hard in outpatient physical and pulmonary rehab and then go home and pedal an under-desk elliptical while they're watching tv. They're on oxygen, but most of them do everything they can to be as strong and healthy as possible going into surgery. In contrast, ECMO COVID patients are potatoes.

by Anonymousreply 517October 26, 2021 10:11 PM

Agree, r516.

They've shown themselves to be irresponsible and immature. Why waste good lungs on an idiot who refuses to follow medical advice and get vaccinated?

They don't want to live. They want to believe lies.

No idea. If he was low income, he could get covered for $100-200 per month by Covered California.

If he wasn't low income, he could pay out of pocket for a plan.

by Anonymousreply 527October 28, 2021 12:40 AM

[quote]We are continuing to pray that UCSD Medical Center will accept Kyle as a patient since it’ll be a convenient location for his recovery and rehab. Whether God heals his lungs miraculously or if Kyle needs a lung transplant, UCSD is a hospital that has the resources to do either treatment. Let us keep on praying and not lose hope!

So now UF isn't good enough for Kyle.

He's on ECMO, no longer sedated, and he's aware of what's happening to him. He hasn't even been evaluated for a possible spot on the UNOS list which would make you think the family would be on their knees praising their god that one hospital agreed to accept him for evaluation. But, nah, San Diego would be so much nicer.

He can't survive without ECMO. He can't survive without a lung transplant. He can't stay on ECMO forever. Lungs are extremely hard to match. That's the infamous ECMO "bridge to nowhere," and they're talking about convenience.

by Anonymousreply 529November 1, 2021 3:03 AM

Kyle's family are just entitled Karen asshole types who probably aren't all that grateful for the resources and evaluations offered to them. It's almost hilarious how they are so focused on convenient locations and not so much that he's still in bad shape. I doubt that his asshole family realizes that unvaccinated idiots like Kyle filled up ICUs and as result people who had non-covid related illness or injuries due to accidents probably suffered as a result due to the strain on hospital systems, medical staff, and therapists.

Someone recently donated 2k to Kyle's gofundme. That's pretty much just a drop in the bucket at this point. Compassion fatigue will set in for some of the people who know Kyle or following his gofundme and the donations will decrease at some point.

Covid vaccination at least reduces chances of severe covid illness or death. Severe covid illness isn't cheap and many of these gofundmes show that you if fuck around there's going to be a heavy price tag for yourself and your family. Some of these people didn't have insurance. Then the ones that have insurance end up realizing that insurance sometimes doesn't cover everything, insurance policies sometimes get exhausted, co-pays add up, and loss of income takes a toll on finances.

Some good news for Kyle:

[quote]Yesterday, his care team informed us that the hospital associated with Emory University in Georgia called and said that they would be willing to take Kyle the following day.

They obviously jumped at the offer knowing that the evaluation could lead to a spot on the UNOS list, which is his one-and-only glimmer of a hope for survival, right?

Wrong. They turned it down and will continue to wait for a bed in San Diego.

by Anonymousreply 563November 6, 2021 8:35 PM

R576 Probably not. I worked in the healthcare field in administration and case management for several years. I encountered some patients or families who had fucking meltdowns when they were told no in various situations dues to factors like criteria not being met for certain treatments and medications, scheduling was backed up for certain services or procedures, insurances companies didn't cover certain things, no open spots, etc. Now, to be fair Kyle's family does seem appreciative of the therapists, nurses, and doctors who have worked with him. Still, when you read through their updates they still come off as entitled with the demands about transplant programs and hospital locations. When they rejected the offer from Emory, at least person was probably secretly pissed with their entitled attitudes.

News article about Kyle. The mother mentions that they should have been vaccinated sooner. It is sort of hard to have sympathy because vaccines had been readily available for awhile before Kyle got covid in Texas.
