I think I figured it out. I've checked a bunch of older threads and the only ones still up are the ones that have been bumped in 2021. All the other ones have been shut down. Thank God my two favourite threads (The Jennifer Aniston movie thread and The Julia Roberts Harriet biopic) are still up.

A thread closed to comments won't disappear. It seems like some people think a closed thread is a deleted thread, and that's not necessarily true.

Well, yeah. It doesn't disappear. However, since it's closed, you can't bump it or add any actual comment to revive the thread discussion. Which means that new threads need to be started for topics that have been discussed in the past and these threads aren't full.

R92, the main intent is not to bury threads. It went like this: If you're crazy and you want to post all day long every day, talking to yourself like a bag lady on the street corner, the only way you can do this on Datalounge is with a bunch of alt/sockpuppet accounts. And you only have Datalounge, because most other sites kicked you out a long time ago.

You only get one paid DL account unless you pay for more. So you gin up a bunch of fake accounts - and I mean hundreds of them - using throwaway email addresses. You give some of the accounts names, others not.

You can't post or vote or start new threads with these free accounts until you've reached a certain karma level, known only to Muriel's algorithms. You get karma by participating successfully on the site, or in other words, you make posts that are upvoted or at least not downvoted.

Since DL is in Primetime at certain times of the day/days of the week, the troll must make these posts at times when Primetime is not in effect. Moreover, it is also important to avoid being noticed as a Bump Bitch, because that will get you called out and your sockpuppet accounts downvoted/flagged/banned, and unusable for creating scores of klan granny threads.

Another hazard is that another Murielgorithym locks threads to unpaid posters if there are too many unpaid posts in the thread. This is another way to prevent both spam posts and the creation of sockpuppet accounts. So one cannot post too often in a given thread with a free account(s) or the thread will get locked.

Thus, early in the morning as the adderall/vyvance/tina is kicking in, our troll would probably open up 60 tabs on a few browsers using VPN, choose a topic, do searches, and begin making throwaway comments to those threads. She tried to get smart about it and seem as if she were just continuing the conversation. But then you'd notice she was replying to a comment made 6 or 7 years ago, and all the links and pics in the thread were dead or occasionally linked to malware. The malware was not Bump Bitch's fault directly; but it was an unfortunate consequence of bumping old threads with old links where the site could be infested with malware.

You can create karma for a few accounts at a time by replying to your own posts using different accounts, called sockpuppeting. And all those odd misspellings/typos in the thread titles? I'm virtually certain, given the loon's otherwise impeccable grammar, that those typos were deliberate, so that it is easier to search for those threads later. No doubt she has notebooks or spreadsheets full of notes, alt names, thread titles, etc.

I wake up early, and sometimes I'd like to check out DL before taking my dog on his morning walk. But all I'd see were endless bumped old threads. It's not a benign pasttime - it negatively impacts the site, makes it boring and odd, and reduces engagement, as all I'd do when I saw that shit was call out Bump Bitch on a few threads she bumped, then go make coffee. And Bellagerina's topics are nearly always negative - ESTs about odd behavior and people, promoting conservative political views, promoting racist and anti-gay attitudes. After awhile, seeing/reading all that nastiness, you just don't want to engage the site much.

Now that bitches can't bump so many threads, they will not be able to create so many troll accounts and spam up the place.

If you think somebody is getting spammy with the Richie Rocco threads, FF and block the thread and/or the OP. If enough people do that, their threads and their account will be put on ice. If you think somebody bumped a newer, post-2020 thread for no reason, FF and block them. If enough people do it, their account will be locked. And it's not as if they had anything to post that you wanted to read anyway.

They will be able to spam up the place still, but to a lesser extent. They won't be able to post to threads that become locked to free accounts. They won't be able to create accounts as quickly. If they use their main paid account, their trolling will be caught out quickly.

They will likely concentrate their comments in a given thread(s). Trolldar (block then check your Ignored list to see what a troll is up to) is your friend. If you discover somebody has posted 25 comments about how we're all going to die of COVID and the vaccine is unsafe, call them and their trollery out publicly in the thread.
