On occasion though, when I have an established fact to share I'll type or paste it in, submit, then abandon the thread. Somebody MIGHT see it among the thrashing, berating, and pummelling, and support it. That's happened before.

There are too many trolls here who only want to destroy. That's what trolls do.

If it's happening to you frequently and for no reason, you're probably being followed around by one of our psychos. You'll see these crazies in threads just randomly cunting it up to someone who didn't do anything wrong. They often post multiple times, trying to get attention, and if they don't get it, they show up with a second account, then a third.

Some times I put someone on Ignore because they are assholes in one and then when I recheck my Ignores later they are actually making interesting points in other threads. So I tend not to use Ignore.

The other day someone did that to me, freaked out on me in a very long reply that didn't make sense. I honestly thought it was something posted accidentally in the wrong thread at first. Then he used other accounts to reply to himself as if he had a fan club, saying "You're so funny! Marry me! Big kisses to you!" It was a little creepy.

I assume it works the same as any other site, R19--you log in from a different browser with a different email address. As you note, one has to be REALLY invested in DL to do that

In my case r19 it was because he'd accidentally outed himself. He called me "slovenly" with his first account and then later said "that's why I called you slovenly" with a second account. That happens every so often with people who have multiple accounts, they forget which account said what.

It's an anonymous message board. I've gotten pummeled a couple of times here, but it didn't really bother me. I don't know the people pummeling me, and they don't know me, so who cares?

I'll occasionally put someone on ignore, but usually because they are posting countless, annoying diatribes about something, like their irrational hatred for Meghan Markle, incessantly defending men showing their dicks to women in the locker room, or those fucking cats in the collapsed Miami condo unit. I don't think I've had to put someone on ignore for being rude to me, but if it got on my nerves enough, I'd just do that and be done with it.

I have been posting for decades. Of course, one expects to get flamed. Mostly positive overall. Never hesitated.

The first time I ever posted on DL I was flamed almost immediately. I thought I'd made a rational, insightful comment, but the subsequent 3 or 4 replies were full of vitriol.

DL, despite being a den of vipers much of the time, has taught me to apply a higher level of critical thinking before I post. However, it is DL, and it's so easy to just let go of one's reason and post on emotions alone. And, besides that, no matter how carefully you attempt to articulate something, someone somewhere will be lying in wait to ambush you, especially on threads that seem to me, on a relatively sophisticated plane of discourse.

There are some incredibly intelligent people (and some very stupid ones, too) here whom I could never hold a candle to, and sometimes I'm so envious of them and their capacity to comprehend, analyze, and retain massive amounts of information. But, I am blessed with creative genes, so I can't complain, as that is what helps to keep me sane.

I don't come to DL to engage with trolls (duh! I believe nobody does). I share my opinion about stuff I like and throw the occasional shade. Even nowadays, I still get some great recommendations from fellow DLers and remain highly entertained by some threads.

DL can be a wonderful resource of entertainment ... if you use all the tools DL provides to curate your experience here. Sure, it requires some discipline, but I do it gladly in order to enjoy Datalounge.

You can't because DL (purposely, I'm sure) limits how many accounts you can ignore, while some of our trolls have dozens of accounts. Just block the trolls OP. There are a few really unhinged ones like Matt who I might tolerate for awhile because he's good for a laugh like a trainwreck but after awhile he gets repetitive and boring so I use the ignore option. I must have on ignore too because he doesn't pop up in my threads. I've encountered some real doozies lately and one click takes care of them. I also block trolls who just seem vicious for no real reason. Not necessarily to me but just unpleasant assholes in general who aren't being snarky just mean to others for no reason.

I've noticed that the entre world seems to be angry. Not sure if is because of Covid or just finally reached a peak. I noticed too that people on DL have become really nasty.no one can ask a question or make a remark without someone telling them to fuck off or similar.

I don't know about the rest of the world but in the US between the virus and Trump I think anger and nastiness has reached a peak. It also doesn't help that somewhere along the way people have lost all respect, not just for each other but themselves too. The one I remember r69 was the "gas all Jews" troll, it was a few months into the pandemic. It seemed like his game was to post troll stuff about Jews, gas and ovens in multiple threads, and then after a few days he would post saying he'd been "censored and banned," expecting sympathy. Instead people started posting proof that he had posted with an authenticated name (don't remember what it was) and he was also an anti trans troll.

I think the complaint about the trolls isn't so much that it eventually gets deleted but that we used to have filters that kept it from being posted in the first place. They removed the filters.

The only annoying berating are the people who constantly accuse everyone of being a Russian troll. It can be for something as stupid as commenting on a fast food thread.

The worst poster is the PR Troll who thinks everyone who disagrees with him is a paid poster. Will say 'how's the weather in Moscow' or 'how much does Sunshine Sachs pay you for saying Archie isn't a robot'.

For the past several years, 95% of the response to posters is ad hominem and/or juvenile pejoratives. I consider the source and ignore it.

I freaked when a poster called me out by my real name, which I've never used on DL. But then I remembered I accidentally posted a couple of things where you could see my name. At first I thought it had to be Muriel. (It wasn't.) When I've been flamed I get pissed but then I realize (sometimes) that they have a point. The ignore feature works if you keep using it whenever you come across a post that you consider a troll comment. ElderLez, my seven year-old has been essentially 'locked down' since late March 2020. I got him back into swim lessons in May, when things appeared to be getting better for those of us who are vaccinated. His instructor wants him to join their little swim team. He handled the first year of covid like a champ, and even though he appears to be OK, I am worried for him, though I don't think I let on. In light of mental health and things, how bad would it be to let him join the swim team? How close do you think they really are to vaccination kids under 12? What would you do?
