Death by Boredom Cases Still on the Rise in Genoa City
It's a serious plague affecting the Wisconsin city.
The Genoa City Police Department should investigate but Police Chief Paul Williams is MIA. He's rumored to have quit and gone to Portugal.
Show needs Jill back to spice things up. If Jess Walton won't do it, they could always recast the role . . .
I'm available.

You know, I've been aware of the joke about her since almost the beginning. Yet, I've never known anything more about her than that she's a running DL joke. I know nothing about her career, who she is, or anything she's ever said or done - outside of DL jokes, of course.
One day, I'm actually going to google her - not today. But, someday.

At least Grossman has full head of healthy hair.
RIkaart admitted to having to start coloring his hair well over a decade ago.
Sometimes it's the show that wants the grey gone. Years ago, LeBlanc said he'd gone on his annual vacation and let the grey grow out naturally on the sides (where his real hair is), and gave up dying it. When he got back, he 'quietly' kept it for a week, then a memo was sent to get rid of the grey and start coloring it again.

Back in the day, the business stories on Y&R were actually some of the best in daytime, but they weren't overplayed.
But who is CEO or runs what company, or works wherever for whom has become such repetitive crap. They're pointless and boring. Enough!

If you eliminated all the business stories on Y&R right now, all you'd have left would be deaf baby Aria and Kyle's affair with Audra (which still manages to touch on business)

This would only make sense if Newman Media were an adult entertainment company, and Nikki was going be in-charge of the company upcoming re-release of the newly re-mastered, 40th Anniversary Edition of her porn film, "Hot Hips," including new bonus footage as well as the film's director detailing what special effects were used to put Nikki's head on top of Boobsie's body.

It's a Daytime crossover with TPIR.
Apparently, Drew Carey is going to be playing NuCane, and the character returns to finally get it on with Traci Abbott.
[quote] According to Josh Griffith, executive produce and head writer, "Cane has seen the error of his ways and now wants to eat breakfast in bed with Traci. Needless to say, this love match is hot and heavy. Viewers are going to love taking this big journey with them."
(No word on whether Drew will try to play the role with an Australian accent, but at least Cane will no longer be mumbling unintelligibly.)
This initial storyline is a short-term arc, but Cane will be seen from time-to-time based on Carey's schedule, so his relationship with Traci will be ongoing. Setside sources are already talking about prepping for a New Years Eve Wedding, so TRANE may be the couple taking the huge plunge.
Eventually Cane's son, Sam, will be introduced into the tween set, and in a highly flirtatious move, Sam will give Miss Connor a wedgie on the soccer field!
[quote] Griffith explains, "Sam is a fun, free-spirited tween who wears his heart on his sleeve. He knows what he wants and isn't afraid to express himself. Sam sees Connor as this sullen "old" sourpuss in need of a sense of humor. But Will Sam's attempts to put a smile on Connor's face work, or backfire immensely?"

I agree, Adam Huss would make a good P3. And Chance certainly needs some family there to support him. Jill's not there. Nina's not there. So why not Phillip coming to town for a while.
But is there enough of an age difference for Huss to convincing play Chance's father? Huss is 46 while Conner Floyd is early 30s.

Huss 46 - Floyd 29 = 17
I think Phillip was just turning 18 when Nina gave birth to PC4.
So it works, well enough. Plus, it makes sense that a gay guy like Phillip takes care of himself and looks great.
Huss iwould certainly be just as believable as some of daytime's parent-child age differences. Look at Chrissy and Judith Chapman. Just six years separate them.

I realize Nikki has been involved in business storylines since she plunked down a boatload of cash from one of her Newman divorce settlements to buy her way into Jabot, thereby"saving" the company from Victor before he could call in the company's bank loans or something; but these scenes where they've got her playing Victor's right-hand woman on the business front and CEO of this, that, and everything else ain't working. Even Brenda was more believable as a businesswoman than Mel. Nikki should be planning Arts Council galas with society bitches and having flings with young Cuban cock, or at the very least managing her own strip club (e.g. Marsino's). That was actually entertaining. Thursday night is gay night with hot twunks dancing in the cages.

Jabottom could be Nicki's COO! Newman is a family business, so I give them some leeway. I actually find her more believable than Vicsnoria who they've had jetting off to LA with just Nate in tow to "buy streaming services" because that's how that all works.

I really think they’ve just run out of ideas for what these characters can do. Yeah it’s pretty ridiculous Nikki as a CEO, but they want to keep her married to Victor, and involved in the goings on of the Newman family so I don’t mind too much. The writers writing most of this dreck need to be fired. You really can’t keep up with the musical chairs of Jabot and NE anymore because it changes almost weekly. Plus most of the characters are so smug and unlikeable, and not even in the they’re so bad they’re entertaining realm, its really sinking this show, JaBottom, the whore he’s in bed with every five seconds, Victoria, Nate, Tucker, Devon, Billy to name a few. Even Ashley, whom I’m normally a fan of, has been written as this major cunt lately.

[quote] Every time they have Nikki weighing in on some business issue, I giggle a little.
My reaction is more of an eye-roll.
It wasn't that long when Mel was asked what she thought Nikki's worst storyline ever was, and she said it was when Lathag had Nikki running for Senate. Her reaction was something like, "Seriously?" .. Nikki playing corporate CEO is right next to that.
The least they could is give Nikki a HOT male secretary. She'd run ideas and suspicions past him, and he'd be her confidential minion and spy. The relationship wouldn't have to be as campy as Real Jill and David Kimble nor as humorous as Wilhelmina Slater and Marc St James (Ugly Betty). But there'd be this dynamic between them, and she'd be able to depend on this guy whenever she needed to do an end-run around someone or find out some information.
This show is so lacking in fun supporting characters.

FALL PREVIEW:
After being fired from Newman Media, JaBottom finds success on OnlyFans and soon does a collab with former fuckbuddy, Theo Vanderway.
Nikki sucks one two many lemons with her water at the GCAC and without any warning just up and dies of sour stomach right there in the club dining room.
Getting stuck in the elevator together, Adam surprisingly learns that Rafe Torres lives in the same apartment building that he recently moved into. .. uh oh. Why is Adam suddenly having strange dreams and night sweats?
Fed up with her father, Boretoria decides to return to her true destiny and takes a job teaching art to kindergartners. .. After an initial arc where "Miss Vicki" proves herself when she settles an intense battle over white paste between Harrison Locke and Miles Fisher, she's bumped to recurring status and only shows up for weddings, funerals, and every other Christmas.
And speaking of destiny - Danny returns which leads Cricket to finally get back to her destiny by agreeing to be his beard once again .. just in time for the 35th Anniversary of "Rock On." .. No one understands why this move upsets Syphilis so much, but she needs her episode counts.
The twink who works the counter at Crimson Lights fills new manager Esther in on how the back room slot machine operation works, thereby we finally learn how this independent coffee shoppe competes with the likes of Starbucks. (Yes, this story has been stolen from "Young Sheldon.")
Mariah and Tessa move to Switzerland to seek treatment for Aria and nobody notices.
Victor reveals that the secret investor joining Chancellor-Winters is none other than MISS CONNOR !! .. Needless to say, heads are gonna roll.

If they do a scene with Nina and Chance, it will be the first time Tricia and Conner will have worked together. Then, when Chance showed up to investigate the non-murder of Syphyllis, Nina was nowhere to be seen among the assembled guests. Her two episodes or whatever were up, so they never interacted.

Dear Gawd in Heaven, I'm bored ....
This business storyline would be far more entertaining if Newman Enterprises were a McDonald's franchise that Victor has owned since the '60s.
Today, his three spoiled children incessantly argue over who's going to be Assistant Manager. Adam is always making the case that he stacks Double Quarterpounders with Cheese better than Victoria, whom he berates for never wearing her hair net. .. Big Goofball Nick is usually seen flirting with GCU coeds at the soda station. .. And none of the Newman brats want to work the drive-thru window, so Victor makes the executive decision to move 'that Sally girl' from the front counter to the window.
Meanwhile, new-hire Audra has a secret plan to move beyond the French Fries station. Suspicious Nikki wonders what Audra is doing slumming here anyway, since she used to be a Night-Shift Supervisor at a KFC in London. .. Nate is the onsite security guard whom Victor hired to keep the homeless from loitering in the dining room and parking lot. Victoria lurves a man in uniform and has messed up more than a few orders staring at Nate's butt. (For some reason, Nate's bubble butt makes Adam nervous.)
Nikki shows up after her shopping trip to the local Kohl's and is not happy with the way the restrooms look. She immediately informs Victor about the smelly situation who later blasts everyone when he finds chewing gum in a urinal.
Meanwhile, The Abbotts own the struggling 31 Flavors franchise across the street and still fret when McDonald's runs a promotion on a new McFlurry.

[quote] they're sticking with the 50th anniversary opening, the worst in the history of the show,
The worst opening, imo, was the one they came up with in 1999 with the billowing red satin sheet and jazzy saxaphone muZak, It was horrible, and similarly, many of the actors were dressed in spanglewear and tuxes. In many cases, the "poses" and looks on their faces didn't seem natural and having them spin towards the audience was quite funny. I've read elsewhere that this was Big Ed Scott's "taste."
The show stuck with that till Ed was gone, then came up with marvelous main titles in 2003 for the 30th Anniversary that hearkened back to the show's original theme music and charcoal drawings. This was done by a company called Automony one remains one of my favorite versions.

How many 'beloved' Y&R characters should be serving long prison terms? Victor - corporate crimes, having Jack kidnapped and putting Jack's psychotic double in town, fooling everyone. R63 Diane had reasons to go into hiding. Drucilla didn’t. I’m not saying they would never go there, but I don’t think it’s likely. Plus Rowell made the role her own. R69 she was, but her fights with Phyllis were epic. The character wasn’t as obnoxious in the 90s and showed some vulnerability. Rowell had a charisma and force she brought to the role. I think it’s why they’ve never tried to recast. I just can’t imagine anyone else in the role. With Mamie on, at least in the short term, they’re trying to make a statement that the Winters/Barber family is not going anywhere. I can’t stand Devon (smug, arrogant, two faced) and THIS character outlived his usefulness a long time ago. But unfortunately he will probably stay with Tucker in town and reestablishing the W/B brood. I can see Olivia coming back, but Drucilla probably will not happen.

by Anonymous | reply 73 | October 8, 2023 7:11 PM

I don't really care if Drucilla comes back, but 16 years of amnesia could easily be explained the same way Carl Williams' amnesia was handled. I think he was absent for almost 10 years. In fact, with Drucilla, it would be even more believable, because we saw her go over the cliff to suffer the injury. With Carl, he just disappeared, and I believe they eventually slipped in some mention that they think he'd been assaulted and hit over the head while on an undercover police assignment, but we didn't see that. Mary had come to the conclusion that Carl was dead.
Anyway, amnesiac Carl was oblivious to who he was and was living a brand new life as "Jim Bradley." The only reason he returned is because Cricket encountered "Jim" working as a security guard at the airport in Norfolk. She returned home and told Clueless, who then tracked his father down and convinced him to return to Genoa City. But Jim-Carl still didn't know who he was. And although I've read this wasn't how the story was originally supposed to go, confused Jim-Carl eventually opted to return to Norfolk with the new galpal in his life, Ruthie.
So all they'd need to do is to say Mamie happened to encounter Dru someplace within the last six months or so. and there was a spark of recognition, which then led to Dru regaining her memory. I believe this is how it also went with amnesiac Faren Connor after Lauren tracked down "Michelle Sanderson's" husband, Evan, and daughter, Betsy.

R74 yeah I forgot about that one. That’s the really the only way it could happen. It’s a soap after all. The emotional punch when they told her that Neil died after she got her memory back would be a great soap moment, but they don’t want to deal with Rowell and her drama anymore. Some poster called her a walking lawsuit, which is appropriate.

Aunt Jack sure was Aunt Jack'ing in Monday's episode. No 70-year old man gushes like that, well unless he's gay or on a Mexican telenovela. .. It was like Jackie was going to start blubbering while reciting his wedding vows for the umpteenth time. .. Hilarious.
DuhVon thinks Fucker is the secret investor working with Aunt Mamie, but his father flatly denies this when interrogated. That denial would be a pretty bold-faced lie to tell his son, so it's probably not him. .. Also, not sure what the drama would be with that anyway. Even DuhVon didn't seem to care all that much (if true). It seemed more about Tucker being secretive. .. Anyway, Tucker seems more interested in Jabot, and that bonsai listening device he's planted at the Abbott house is like something used by KAOS on "Get Smart" ca. 1965. .. It would be funny if Jack told Traci he doesn't want to look at the little tree in the living room all the time, so she moves it to the top of the downstairs toilet tank. Then Tucker would really have something to listen to.
So Heather is moving "back home" to Genoa City -- minus Clueless. That's funny. .. Not sure I care about her and Daniel reconnecting. .. Has Heather run into Adam yet? I want her to ask him if he's fucked any hot Latino lawyers lately?
And while on the subject of Heather. I notice she's on recurring. Can TPTB advance her some cash to go get her extensions re-done? It's obvious they need replacement and are approaching Lindsay Lohan on a bad hair day territory.

R81 I love seeing Mammie again. She's the last actress to play that role and had started a romance with the late John Abbott. Not crazy about her "natural hair". It somehow doesn't look age appropriate. The actress is only in her mid-70's. Who says black don't crack.

Bored with executive Nikki. .. Thank god for Audra.
Claire's hair strands hanging in her face are annoying. Who's idea was this? The actress doesn't wear her hair like that IRL.
Nick and Sally: Haven't these two had this exact same conversation about Adam something like 25 times now? Is it finally over between them?
And if Adam's going to succeed working as an Assistant, shouldn't he be dress the part? .. a tight, athletic-cut, dress shirt and snug pants tailored to highlight the bulge and ass? That's the proper uniform. .. Maybe there's a twink or two down in the mail room can show him how it's done.
Oh, and it looks like Chrissy's back in Los Angeles having tea with the ladies.

Lauralee told gay reporter, Michael Fairman, that Thom knew that coming out to her would be a non-issue, so much so, that she said she could barely remember when they had "the talk" saying she thinks it was after he'd already left Y&R.

Speaking of Lauralee ...
The show plans a "40 Years of Cricket Blair" episode to air on November 2 to mark Lauralee Bell's 40th anniversary. Reports indicate:
[quote] To mark the occasion, Y&R will air a special episode filled with classic clips. In the episode, Christine receives a little help from her friends as she finds herself at a crossroads professionally and romantically . Of course, viewers learned earlier this year that Christine and Paul's marriage ended. The episode will also feature fan favorites Michael Damian (Danny Romalotti) and Tricia Cast (Nina Webster). The throwback clips shown will include Christine's romantic entanglements through the years as well as her epic rivalry with Phyllis Summers.
I wonder if this episode will FINALLY mark the end of Christine trying to patch things up with Paul, and we'll now hear that he accepted Heather's offer to take over the house she's giving up over there, and Paul will be bringing along the cute Portuguese bell boy he's been fucking from the hotel he's been staying at.

There is one business story they have never followed up on. When Victor took over Jabot from Jack Abbot, he did it with insider information. David Kimble went to Victor to tell him Jabot was going public so he could buy a majority stake in it. He worked with Mitchel Sherman to create dummy companies to buy up Jabot stock and boom he owned Jabot - All they had to do was write a storyline where Jack finds that out and goes to the FTC and boom Victor and Newman Industries is destroyed. Now that would be good drama.

Bell Sr was dying to get her an Emmy nod. She was in the baby stealing storyline, she was date raped, sexually harassed, found her lost mother who was dying of aids, and nearly married her brother. The problem was they could not cast actors bad enough to make her look good, Tricia Cast ran rings around her, and Darlene Conley as well. Even Michael Damian looked like Redford next to her.

I’d forgotten Terry Lester left the show because she was gobbling up so much airtime. In the 90s, Cricket was always being victimized, or having some calamity inflicted on her. I actually liked her character, but it was during this era when the show was firing nearly on all cylinders. But I came to realize it was a mistake to make her so perfect and this goddess everyone else should aspire to be. EVERY character, down to even the retard Esther, had more depth than her. Ironically she won an Emmy for one of those digital shows, but not one nomination for her acting.

R60 guessed it. Or at least, that's what Phyllis says at the end of today's episode when she confronts Tucker about what she's discovered between Mamie and him. So apparently, he's willing to lie straight through his teeth to DuhVon who grilled him about Mamie last week.
Makes one wonder, though, where is Tucker getting the cash to buy into Chancellor-Winters? Are we to forget that McCall he was one step away from bankruptcy when Ashley stepped forward to pay off all his company loans earlier this year? And now he's supposedly making some kind of plan to takeover Jabot as well?

Hilarious to see Society open for breakfast. .. What next? A drive-thru?
When Abby first opened the restaurant it was supposed to be like "Pump" in West Hollywood, a glitzy evening/night spot to see and be seen.
The way Griffith is sooooo into business stories, one can only guess that Society is about to give Crimson Lights a run for its money! .. Could Abby be about to mount a takeover!? .. Sharon is taking her eyes of Crimson Lights and letting dimwit Esther manage things. .. This could be the perfect opportunity! (I jest. I think.)
And style-wise, Daniel's new apartment doesn't look like his type of abode at all. .. It looks like they took the other penthouse (Adam's, then Nate's) and are repurposing that set somehow.
And what's with that "new set" where they had Nate and Adam talking? It looks like the end of a corridor at Newman Enterprises leading to an exit door into a stairwell. Wow what imagination! .. My idea would have been a Men's Room with a few urinals. .. Adam and Nate could have had that same chat while taking a piss together.

They wrote Faith and Moses off. They send Noah and Jack's newly found granddaughter (whatever her name was) off to London and Paris respectively.

I actually think he can, because the last teen-based story that I actually liked on this show was a Josh Griffith story. It was when FenMo and Summer were bullying poor Jamie Vernon. And I'd actually suggest that story may have been the best one he did (or at least most memorable) during his 2012-13 stint.
And I also watched much of the the teen-based telenovela, "Hollywood Heights" that Griffith wrote right before he came to Y&R in 2012. That show was actually decent, IMO and has a 7.3 rating by viewers at IMDb.
So I find the absence of younger characters on Y&R right now something of a mystery.

It's no mystery. Bergman, Braeden, Mel, Stafford etc. won't sit for newbies usurping them. Maybe the CBS research/focus groups back them up. The ego's of these people to keep wanting Emmy noms year after year (when there is zero competetion) is telling. Where is Reed, Johnny, Katie, Christian, Faith along with Noah and the Vietnamese granddaughter of Jack? Next generation means nada. Yet we get the boring Claire, whose connection to anyone is bound to be lame. Audra is the only spark plug of the younger set, and the actress is 33. Sad.

Chance was DeSORASED when they brought him back a few years ago.
Chance should be in his early 40s these days, as John Driscol, his first adult portrayer, is now 42.
However, Chance is now portrayed in as early 30s as Conner Floyd just turned 30 last week.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | October 24, 2023 2:49 AM

Yeah, timeline-wise, Chance and Nick should be the same age, with Chance actually having been born about nine months before Nick.
They also deSORASED Tucker, who's now being played by 52-year old Trevor St. John. He and Jill were said to be born the same night back in the 50s, allowing for the birth certificate switch. Yet, now, 74-year old Jess Walton is actually old enough to be TSJ's mother.
Noah was also deSORASED with Rory Gibson, but that one made sense, since the character is supposed to be younger than Cassie-Mariah, who grew up in real-time with Camryn Grimes in the role. They only SORASed Noah, after Cassie died, otherwise and older actor probably never would have been cast.
Going the other direction, JaBottom and Blabby should be the same age as sell, since they were the two sperm babies, also born just months apart; yet Mealor is 31 and Boredway is now 40.
Trying to make sense of ages, characters, and casting ins and outs on this and most daytime soaps are often too knotty to even bother with and becomes a pointless exercise. You just have to accept things.

It's totally UNBELIEVABLE that any heterosexual male would fall out of love with CRICKET BLAIR and reject her !!
This can only mean one of three things about Paul:
-- Paul is finally taking steps to live his authentic self. .. His old jack-off buddy, Andy Richards, will soon be joining him in Lisbon full-time. The houseboy has already been hired, and thank god for Viagra.
-- Paul is half-way through his hormone therapy to become "Pauline Williams." .. Special guest star, Caitlyn Jenner, will return in a few months to tell Christine how things are going for Pauline and share photos of the new hair extensions she just got.
-- Paul was abducted by aliens, and during the anal probe, they implanted a chip up his butt. Therefore, there's a reason why all those things that Christine reported to Danny about Paul sound like a big load of crap.

Didn't that just happen to him a couple of years ago, when Griffith had some underfive from Kansas aiming for Adam, but she shot Chance instead??? .. Maybe Chance should think about wearing his bulletproof vest out when he's out in the field.
Okay, and isn't it SOAP 101 to have hunks in hospital beds laid out SHIRTLESS ?!?. .. Griffith fails this simple soap test. .. After an episode or two, I'd have a hot male orderly come in to give Chance a sponge bath.

It would really be no different than how JaBottom is now being played by 31-year old Mealor, when the first adult Kyle (Blake Hood) is 38; or how Chance is now played by 29-year old Conner Floyd, when the character should be the same generation as Nick.

Interesting question. .. But even when Cricket Blair went off-contract and moved abroad, she still managed to show up for some episodes in Genoa City nearly every year. There were only three years when she didn't, and during one of those years (2007), the character did a cross-over on B&B.

A year ago, Y&R celebrated Christian LeBlanc's 30th anniversary. They seemed to forget the fact he was off the show for three years in the 90s.
A year ago, the show celebrated Eileen Davidson and Beth Maitland's 40th anniversary. They ignored the fact Eileen was on Days for six years in the 90s. Or that she was on B&B for almost two years.
These anniversary episodes typically have to do with when the character was introduced and not about the actor consistently playing the part the whole time.

The black man fired at Newman could have been a hot topic sl. Nate DID nothing outwardly wrong. If this is truly how corporate America works, no wonder we have Trump. Of course any company that has former pole dancer and high school drop out Nikki as its CEO is on shaky ground to begin with.

So true, R172. And I was laughing at the argument that Victor shouldn't go away for treatment of his mental problem because the business community would get nervous about the state of Newman Enterprises. How so? I haven't kept track, but it seems like they've been playing " CEO of the Day" at the company for the last five or more years. I seriously doubt anyone on the outside cares or even knows exactly who's running NE on any given day.
What I think could have made this lame story to uncover the traitor is if they'd brought Leanna Love in for a few episodes. We'd see her coming up with reports on Victor's rumored mental decline, peppering her reports with some of the crazy crap he's done in the past. We'd eventually learn that her source was Nate, so that would show that he actually was being traitorous, but he told Leanna to hold off till he heard from her. Leanna waited, but when he didn't call (he was getting fired), she ran with it.
When they did the anniversary episodes they said Leanna would be back. But since then, we've only seen her once on some video feed. This kind of Anti-Newman story would be right up her alley, and Victor would have no one to blame for this getting out to the business community, because he started the whole ruse to begin with.

And Psycho Claire is there with a hypodermic needle ready to pull a Dianejenkins on Nikki?
Someone should have informed Griffith that Halloween was two weeks ago.

Mel's Ozempic weight loss is sure doing a number on her face. All that sagging seems related to the weight loss. In that preview for next week, she looks especially bad. She's gaunt and looks like she's sick.
If I were Victor, I'd be sending her to the doctor rather than to see his sister Casey. But then Casey is a doctor . . .

This Nikki/Claire thing has come out of left field. Claire is such an obvious weirdo. How'd she get hired? No one does background checks at this mega billion dollar corporation? We know Audra was checking into her, but Audra has been gone for weeks, presumably the takeover of Jabot dominating her time. Wouldn't Nikki travel with security since she is kidnapped every other year?

This arc, if you can call it that, is totally plot-driven, much the way the recent Cameron Kirsten arc was. .. At least with that one, there was some history to draw upon.
Since we barely know Claire, I assume the suspense here is supposed to revolve around, "Who is Great Aunt Jordan?"
And is Nikki the only target? Near the end of today's episode, Claire said something about, "returning to Genoa City to make the rest of the arrangements," telling hostage Nikki, "Don't worry, you'll be with the rest of your family soon."
But no, we don't really care, because Griffith will undoubtedly not kill off any Newman.

In his defence, didn’t he play a novelist on Y&R? That’s a hard role to make interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 226 | November 18, 2023 6:35 PM

R226 Yes, Charles 'Cole" Howard was a novelist. Another one he fucked was wannabe novelist, Nina. This was during the Cole-Victoria-Ryan-Nina quad. Nina was interested in writing and began working as Cole's research assistant. They had sex one time, up at some cabin.
Some viewers were perplexed about this, while others a little mad, because they didn't actually show this. We knew they'd starting making out, but when they came back to the scene, it didn't appear that they'd followed through. .. A few months later as Nina's marriage to Ryan continued to crumble, and Vicky seemed to want to recommit to her marriage to Cole, it came out that Nina and Cole actually did have sex. Right after that reveal is when Sarah Aldrich took over the role from Bitchtoria, so some thought that may have influenced the decision to revisit the scene that we didn't actually see.
by Anonymous | reply 227 | November 18, 2023 6:49 PM

And besides having to play a boring novelist, Cole's relationship and subsequent marriage to FauxAshley (Shari Shatthefuckup) was a total misfire. .. Then, when they finally canned her and brought Eileen back to the role, Peck just couldn't make it work; there was no chemistry whatsoever. .. By that point, Cole had basically become this extra, stand-alone character, so one who could easily be dispatched to London to be a professor at Oxford. .. No big loss. .. The writing had been on the wall ever since the "big story" about which partner living in the Abbott house was going to secure the room over the garage as their home office: writer Cole Howard or architect Dianejenkins? We were all waiting on baited breath ....

R230 No. That was always Eve's rather obsessive claim. More than once. They played that story in the early 80s; then played it again when Eve found out that Cole was dating Victoria, so she came to town to warn about the incest factor. But in the end, Victor investigated things further and tests proved that some ex- of Eve's named "Marvin Oakley" (actor Frank Whiteman) had fathered Cole.

And her "true Chancellor heir" garbage regarding DuhVon? .. Just shut up.
Chance is the true CHANCELLOR heir. Even the Old Battleaxe knew that. After PC3 (presumably) died, Kay was all about PC4 knowing his legacy. In 1998, she wanted the 10-year old boy to be the guest of honor at her big gala celebrating "everything Chancellor." Nina thought Little Phillip was too young for this and wouldn't let him attend.
Maybe this is why they're hinting at Chance changing careers and joining Jill at Chancellor-WInters. It's about time.
The only issue I have with this is that there's already too much business crap in this show.

As I recall, nutty Eve seemed to be living a fairly good life when we last saw her and was on a cruise when she received the letter from Cole telling her that he was in love with Victoria Newman. This prompted her to return to Genoa City to warn about the incest. .. But once there, she caught Soap Opera Mystery Illness, couldn't communicate. and this led to a mother-son deathbed scene. .. And does Jordan not know that Eve was lying about Cole's paternity all along? She was an obsessive screwball who caused all kinds of trouble for Victor every time she turned up like a bad penny over the issue.
Anyway, Claire is now referring to Jordan as "mother," so that's their actual relationship.
And Cole appears innocent in all this. He was knocked out and stumbles into the room during the final scene in Monday's episode. .. Jordan announces that Cole needed to be there for "the family reunion." He looks totally perplexed about what's going on.
(*) This set-up seems about as stoopid as MAB's "Sarah Smythe" revenge plot against Lauren for Lauren's treatment of Sarah's sister, Sheila. .. At least we got hot "Ryder Callahan" out of that mess.

Can’t believe this is the best they can come up with. And why would the batshit crazy sister wait so long to exact this stupid revenge? I was watching it in the 90s and I don’t recall Victor treating Eve THAT bad. Victors treated others way worse. Jack alone could push him out the Newman Towers window and be justified.

Bad storytelling. Why not just have Claire show up out of the blue and then reveal she is one of the Newmans?. She was kidnapped. A victim. Solved. Why do we have to live thru the "bad girl gets reformed and eventually bonds with Bio-Mom" trope?.

Fun Trivia -- Margaret Mason, the actress who played Eve Howard on Y&R, also played Linda Patterson on Days of Our Lives in the early 1970s. Linda was lawyer Mickey Horton's secretary. Mickey and Linda had an affair which contributed to Mickey and Laura Horton's marriage falling apart.
Later Linda was engaged to Mickey's brother Tommy. She also bedded Mickey's teenage son Mike Horton in effort to prove to a confused Mike that he wasn't gay. Linda also married millionaire Bob Anderson.

How old must Jordan have been when Eve and Victor hooked up, oh 50 years ago? Zenk is late 60's, I guess. I dunno stupid stupid cheap storyline to get Mel an Emmy nod, I suppose. Does Jordan know Eve's thwarted attempts to kill Nikki repeatedly before the 1984 wedding? Humanizing Victoria may have been the one twist that MIGHT have worked if Claire was her 'daughter' but Gawd awful wrap it up before Christmas so we can have Newman family Christmas reconci;liation doesn't deliver sh!t.

The worst that can happen here is that Claire Grace actually is Baby Eve, and we now have to put up with one more Newman added to the canvas played by a very bland actress.
The best that can happen here is that Nick seeks to have the big knife scar across his chest removed and begins to undergo numerous up-close and personal treatments of the shirtless kind in pursuit of that goal.

Billy Miller definitely had a dirty, sleazy vibe going on while he was on All My Children as Ritchie Novack. I assumed that was part of the character of Ritchie, but then when he moved to Y&R, the Billy Abbott character he was portraying also had a dirty, sleazy vibe going on.
Gradually, Billy Abbott lost that dirty, sleazy quality, or at least it was downplayed drastically. But it was definitely there at first.
Maybe that dirty sleazy was part of Billy Miller's personality, just like it was/is of RKK and Michael Muhney.

Believe me, LA is a 'what can you do for me' town. JM is rare.
Miller? The sad truth is his nickname at at least one place was 'Grumpy Miller.'
He had the role of a lifetime in Billy Abbott. poor little rich boy whom all the women wanted to save, mother, and fuck.
He soon found out that Hollywood didn't respond to him the way daytime did. EVERYONE wanted him when he left Y&R; well, by everyone, the other three shows.
He discovered after joining GH that he was just a placeholder till Steve came back. Some actors are never happy. Look at Jacob what's his name dissing those teen romance movies he did. Dude didn't say no when offered the parts, did he?
It's too bad Billy didn't get the help he needed. I know people who've opted to get out and they take that path. The irony is there's no guarantee that it's better on the other side.

Yeah, it's another one of those plot-driven messes that Griffith poops out and plays like a TV movie over a few episodes. At least the recent Cameron Kirsten one had some basis in that he was a previously-known villain who would of course hold a grudge against Sharon and Nick. .. There have only been two PERFECT "stolen baby" soap opera stories...
OLTL = Natalie kidnapped on screen in 1986.. Returned 25 years later.
Young Restless = The perfect crime. Sheila Carter swapped black market baby Dylan with Scotty. On camera Sheila literally switched the babies, took new footprints and made new hospital records for both of them while wearing her nurses uniform. This created years of storylines on two different shows. The (re-married) Scott and Lauren argued after Lauren found out Scott knew Sheila was alive and was protecting her.
Lauren = Sheila stole OUR baby.
Scott = No. She stole YOUR baby. She gave our son to ME.

Cole even said that he only had contract with Jordan a couple of times in his life when his mother was still alive. I seriously doubt he just phoned her up and told her. Plus, the paternity of Victoria's baby was rather hush-hush. Cole eventually found out that he was the baby's father from Neil, but in the beginning Victoria made off like Neil was the father. Cole was hooked up with FauxAshley at the time, and platonic friend Neil stepped-up and he and Vicky were going to be married once the baby arrived. And what prompted Vicky to have the baby before it was due happened out of the blue. It turned out that she had appendicitis and they had to perform emergency surgery. The baby was sick and in critical care and died soon after the Caesarean. Seriously stupid to think that Jordan knew all that and could navigate getting a critical care infant out of the hospital alive.

R394, all valid points.
As THRILLED as I am to see CZ back on my screen, the story has plenty of holes in it.
My biggest problem is that Jordan's ranting that Cole and Vicki didn't WANT baby Claire Eve and then Cole and Vicki (AKA Jake and Mia) say, Oh, we wanted you! And Clarie's all WHAT? You lied to me Aunt Jordan!
Didn't Jordan realize what Cole and Vicki would say?
This would have been a stronger tale if Heather were still in the part; we could have seen flashbacks. Ameila is perfectly perfunctory while at the same time being perfectly bland.

R399 Besides West, MAB also hired ATWT's Jennifer Landon to play the last of The Three Heathers. .. In fact, she's the one who had the relationship with Daniel prior to what we're now seeing between Graz and Vail Bloom (Heather No. 1). .. Landon's Heather and Daniel are the one's who left town with Lucy to go build a life together in Savannah. .. Personally, I never got the appeal of Oakdale's "Gwen Norbeck," and neither did Y&R's viewers.

[quote]Why, [R399]? How'd that happen?
CBS Senior VP in Charge of Daytime, Barbara Bloom made it happen. And I want to say the Maura was fired from Y&R the minute Barbara stepped down as VP.
Maura is an amazing actress, but everyone knew she was all wrong for Diane and way too young for the part, but CBS wanted to keep her on the network. According to the gossip at the time, Maria Arena Bell gave her jacked up writing, and various actors and scenes partners would tank scenes.
This was also during the time when CBS and Sony were battling for control of the show.

Maura was a bitch on wheels in the role of Diane. I know they made life hell for her on the show, but it was entertaining and fun as fuck to watch. Susan Walters has her moments in the role, but since they’ve made her Mrs. Jack Abbott, she can be snoozeville.
by Anonymous | reply 406 | December 2, 2023 8:03 PM

Honestly, I think Maura's biggest obstacle to overcome in the role of Dianejenkins was her striking blonde hair. She just didn't "read" Diane.
Y&R viewers knew Diane as the dark-haired fashion model turned architect. Her look had been in our heads for nearly 30 years. (Donnelley started in 1982, then Walters, with similar complexion, taking over in 2001.)
Maura's age may also have been a factor for some viewers, but that issue I could overlook ... that is, until they did the eye-rolling hookup with Nick Newman, serving only to glaringly highlight the age gap between her and her two predecessors.
But hair color DOES matter in recasts. It's one of the reasons I still think Jason Thompson just looks wrong as Billy Abbott.
by Anonymous | reply 407 | December 2, 2023 9:04 PM

See I'm inverse. To me, Billy now looks like his mother, but I get the argument for Billy being blond like the Abbott girls. I thought West was great as Diane but it's Y&R...

Maura did a great job with the material, but she was wrong for the role. For me, every scene she was in just felt disjointed and out of place because she was so miscast.
Maura was as wrong for Diane Jenkins as Jason Thompson is for Billy. Probably even more so.
If show was forced to find a role for Maura, they should have created a new character for her.

Y&R did a horrible job casting established actors while MAB was HW.
Among the less than stellar castings:
Eden Riegel as Heather Stevens
Jennifer Landon as Heather Stevens (although Jen was much better in the role than Eden)
Debbie Morgan as Harmony
Genie Francis as Genevieve Atkinson
Maura West as Diane Jenkins
Darnell Williams as Sarge
Stephen Nichols as Tucker McCall (as much as I loved him as Patch and as Stefan Cassadine, he was god awful as Tucker).

Y&R is known as the pettiest set.
It was likely nothing personal but Hans/Mel/La Bergman and a few others would have not appreciated anyone usurping their thrones at Y&R, new role or old. Maura was doomed no matter what.

R413 You left out the worst of the worst. DARIUS McCRARY as NotMalcom.
I didn't mind Darnell as "Sarge," but there was no point to the character, and he was never given a real story.
And I might give them a pass on Eden as NuHeather. Due to Vail Bloom's "issues" back then (her out-of-control coke habit), they had to quick recast with a soap vet who could hit the ground running.

R416 It was going on two years. He arrived around Christmas 2009 and exited October 2011. Fortunately, they only played him a little more than 40 episodes the first year, then cut his appearances to what seemed like the bare minimum during his last six months.

IMDB says Darius only played Malcolm for 86 episodes over 21 months. So, that's about 4 episodes a month.
I realize IMDB is not the most reliable place for information about actors on soap operas. IMDB certainly has a lot of wrong info about soap actors. But, most of that wrong information is from the pre-1990 era. Most of the information from the past 25-30 years seems to be accurate.

R419 If you look at the details of those episodes for McCrary, many of them in the last five months are where he got a "credit only" meaning he wasn't actually in the episode, but because he was contract, his name appeared in the credits that ran that week. So looks like his actual appearances were more like 73, rather than 86. By mid-2011, the writing was already on the wall.

R418 FauxAshley (Shattuck) was who Cole was involved with when Victoria was preggers with Baby Eve. .. There was quite a bit of animosity between Victoria and Ashley, because Victoria was being her typical Bitchtoria acting like she could win a guy back with the snap of her fingers. .. This continued into the subsequent storyline that involved Ashley's brother from another mother, Rafael Delgado. .. Victoria didn't know who Rafael was and became convinced that the two were having a secret love affair, when actually Ashley was trying to get Rafael out of an art forgery mess that he'd created. (Rafael was an artist in Spain, but supported himself by painting forgeries.) .. Sometime toward the end of that storyline, Shattuck was replaced by Eileen Davidson, so she's the Ashley who got to play the end of the marriage material with Cole, which then led to the character's departure to Oxford.

Heather says she's sticking around, because "Genoa City feels like home" and she has "so many fond memories here"?
Really? She was raised in New York with the entire Stevens' family around her. She's more recently lived and worked in Savannah twice as long as she was ever in Genoa City. And when she was in town, her memories should consist of either finding out that her boyfriend was on the downlow, or getting in trouble and fired from the D.A.s office, or trapped in a car with a bomb about to go off, or kidnapped by some thugs, or being manipulated by her crazy half-brother, Ricky. And now her Clueless father doesn't even live in Genoa City any longer.
If Heather and Chance both end up working at Chancellor-Winters, I wonder if they'll remember that the former law enforcement duo fucked when they were working on a case together? And I hope they at least have Heather run into Adam at Crimson Lights one day soon and have her ask him if he's fucked any hot Latino twunks lately?

The Emmys airing on Friday night is the ceremony that would have been held on June 16 if not for the writers's and the actors' strikes.
These nominations were announced in April and cover performances that happened in 2022.
So, B&B's Italy remote isn't eligible since it aired in July 2023. Michelle Stafford's excellent performance around Phyllis' death happened around Y&R's 50th anniversary shows, starting in March 2023.
Likewise, Sharon Case may have gotten some good story with Cameron Kirston's stalking her and subsequent death, but that was in May 2023. For much of 2022, Sharon primarily was pouring coffee and acting as a coffeehouse psychologist.

Chloe used the term 'roadkill' after what happened to her daughter? Really bad writing. Chloe and Nick's chat must have taken hours, given what everyone else in GC was doing.
Jordan is traipsing about GC with no disguise, outwitting the police lol. There's an APB on her, but Newman employees and family members (Adam, Abby) have no idea what happened.

Chloe is such a useless twat. Just about every day it’s how can we shit on Adam some more, and Chloe is there to join the Greek chorus of other characters dumping on him. Newsflash Chloe. Billy was the one who left the kid alone. Run your stupid mouth about him for a change. They got rid of Kevin (aside from an occasional guest appearance). Next have him and Chloe move out of GC for good.

My understanding is that its not unusual for people in AA to have partners who still drink, so they keep alcohol in the for the partner and for guests. It's part of the alcoholics responsibility to get at AA meetings and call a sponsor if they are tempted.

I think we need an ep where Mrs. Martinez opens the back door of the Abbott house and finds her hot nephew, Alejandro Martinez, on the other side. (Shades of Aunt Mamie and Drucilla.)
Now 18, we learn that Ale's parents kicked him out of the house three years ago (You can guess why.) Anyway, he's been living on the streets ever since. .. "I'm tired of this life," Ale cries. "And now I've got these horrible men after me. Can you help me, Tia?" .. Mrs. Martinez leads Ale inside and tells him, "There's a small room behind the kitchen here that you can spend the night in, mijo, but you have to stay put and be quiet. I don't want to upset Senor Abbott. And you'll have to leave in the morning. Now, go use the adjoining bath to wash up, while I heat up some leftover enchiladas for you."
Within a month, Ale is not only working in Jabot's mail room, but he's also employed as a part-time towel boy at the Athletic Club.
Kyle becomes flustered and thinks out loud, "What's with this kid? He's EVERYWHERE! .. If he's not shoveling snow in our driveway shirtless in January, he's walking around Jabot bulging in those snug chinos. Now, I have to be on guard every time I walk around the locker room!"

R555 After Miguel exited, the primary domestic was "Estella Munoz," who was also Rafe Torres' aunt. .. But Adam set Estella up to be blamed for Ashley's "haunting" and got her fired. This is actually the plot point that led to Adam and Rafe having sex, as Rafe was on the hunt to find evidence that would clear his aunt's name, and that's when Adam had to stop Rafe by seducing him.
After Estella, I think we've only seen a few non-speaking domestics, but no one really "in charge" like Miguel and Estella were. There was a maid name "Bonnie" that we saw a few times, and a cook named "Vera."

R558 Yes, it's the NuRanch: the one that Victor built after bipolar Sharon burned the old one down.

by Anonymous | reply 563 | December 19, 2023 12:40 PM

R563 I think it's because initially fans thought the fire at the Ranch would simply lead to Victor and Nikki refurbishing it in place, and it would have the same footprint, but would be totally redecorated -- and that's something which a lot of fans had been calling for, since it had basically looked the same since the early 90s when decorator, Cassandra Rawlins, re-did it. .. But as we know, that's not what happened.
When the newly built "NuRanch" first debuted it was a total joke. Viewers were calling it the "Ikea Ranch."
by Anonymous | reply 564 | December 19, 2023 12:59 PM

It just goes to show how clueless JFP was. The sets represented continuity, which was part of the Y&R brand, and it's not like she replaced or changed to any benefit. That broad was a show wrecker with the same bag of tricks everywhere she went. But I suppose she was good at controlling costs, if not storytelling.
by Anonymous | reply 565 | December 19, 2023 1:04 PM

Another set JFP got rid of was GloWorm. Viewers really couldn't understand that move. It was a relatively new restaurant set that most loved. She replaced it with this cheap-looking bar-restaurant set that Billy won gambling called "On the Boulevard." That didn't last very long at all.
by Anonymous | reply 566 | December 19, 2023 1:14 PM

Very odd in that it was quite narrow, accommodating this very long table. Nothing special, and it looked like an quick add-on just to film a holiday dinner scene.

R574 Back in the early days, Victor had a manservant named "Charlie" who was Asian. I believe "Charlie" appeared after his marriage to Julia ended around 1981. Then, Miguel showed up after Victor and Nikki married in 1984. .. Also, right before the Sarah the Maid story with Veronica Landers, there was a maid at The Ranch named "Ellie." I think they played her a bit, but then she came in one day and told Nikki she was retiring. This led into why Nikki had to hire a new maid ... enter Veronica/Sarah.

R579 After Victor and Nikki divorced, she got The Ranch, and Victor moved to a penthouse atop Newman towers. That's where those scenes with "Colonel Douglas Austin" took place.
Another thing about Douglas is that he had a relationship with an older stripper named Boobsie and fell in love with her. When the Hot Hips porno tape with Nikki was released, Nikki knew nothing about it, because Tony DiSalvo had put Nikki's head on top of Boobsie's body.

I could see Kim Zimmer showing up as Traci's twin separated at birth.
We'd learn that Dina nearly died during delivery, and there was no way she was going to care for two huge babies; so even before leaving the hospital, she gave one of her 14 lb. newborns away. John never knew about the other twin, because he was out of town on business that week.
An orderly named "Jeffrey" gladly took "Trixi" off Dina's hands, because he and his partner, "Armando," yearned for a baby. But since it was the early 60s, that seemed impossible.
Trixi recently found out about her parentage when Jeffrey passed away, and she found his diary at the bottom of a box containing his vintage "Physique Pictorial" magazines.
Trixi now wants her part of the Abbott pie as well as that large tray of leftover enchiladas in the refrigerator. Is Traci willing to share?

R591, I disagree. Niles crane often proposed duels on frasier and he is heterosexual. Lol

Today’s show was ridiculous.
Nikki swigging vodka on an open stairway in public?

R594 what’s even funnier is douchebag Nate realizes what’s going on with her before even Victor or her own family does. If Victor can stop her baby for two seconds, maybe he would realize she’s loaded most of the time.

The show should have brought in therapist Dr. James Warrick from BB to help treat Clair. Or even Taylor. Such a lost opportunity.

I love drunk mess Nikki! Her swigging from her flask on the stairwell was fucking hilarious. The show needs a lot more of scenes like that to overcome forcing us to listen to Billy blather on about his legacy with some of the cringiest dialogue ever.

I know it could never happen, but I'd love for Nate to toss the race card toward all the a-holes in GC who judge him. His sins seem tame compared to anythng Victor or Nikki have done.
