Who's had it? How bad were the side effects?
Shingrix vaccine
by Anonymous | reply 69 | July 20, 2023 5:56 PM |
Had the whole series, Just a sore arm for a day or two.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 19, 2023 11:08 PM |
Soreness, chills, and fever for a few hours after the first shot...
Diarrhea (which is a common side effect no one warned me about) after the second shot
But none of the side effects are nearly as bad as the Shingles
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 19, 2023 11:10 PM |
No side effects...
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 19, 2023 11:10 PM |
I've had the first shot. The sore spot seemed to last a bit longer than most immunizations, but that's it.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 19, 2023 11:11 PM |
I did. The side effects were strong but bearable: 101 degree fever, aches, chills, nausea. They lasted about a day for both the first dose and the booster. Very similar to what I experienced with Moderna. Unpleasant and I couldn’t go to work.
But absolutely 100% worth the peace of mind.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 19, 2023 11:11 PM |
I can't remember. I think I was tired, though.
The worst side effects from a vaccine was when I got Covid vaccine #2 of 2. (I've had subsequent Covid vaccines, but the "first" vaccine was a two-part vaccine.)
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 19, 2023 11:13 PM |
I felt like my arm had been punched hard by Popeye.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 19, 2023 11:13 PM |
Yeah, the fatigue lasted for days after my first shot
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 19, 2023 11:14 PM |
First dose = was fine
Second dose = very high fever overnight that broke by morning
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 19, 2023 11:17 PM |
None, for either shot.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 19, 2023 11:18 PM |
Felt like shit the first one, felt like shit the second one. Only for a day or two after.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 19, 2023 11:20 PM |
My partner barely had any effects after the first shot, and then mild flu like symptoms for a couple days with the second one. But yeah, nowhere near as bad as having shingles. I’m set to go for my first shot this week.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 19, 2023 11:21 PM |
I felt rough after my second dose, OP. Make sure you have nothing planned for a couple of days after you get them.
Here's an earlier thread with lots of info, which prompted me to get my shots.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 19, 2023 11:21 PM |
Just a little sore in the arm - no big deal.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 19, 2023 11:21 PM |
I also had the shots a couple of years ago. A sore arm was the only result.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 19, 2023 11:29 PM |
After the first shot, sore arm for a day. After the second shot, sore arm plus felt generally lousy (very tired, mildly feverish) for about a day. No regrets.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 19, 2023 11:30 PM |
I’ve had both shots and I had minimal reactions to either one. I think that the injection site was perhaps a little sore briefly. My sister, on the other hand, was sore at the injection site for so many months afterwards that her doctor reported it to Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 19, 2023 11:30 PM |
first one was awful, I felt like I was freezing from the inside out, diarrhea, fever, shivers, exhaustion. second one was fine.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 19, 2023 11:32 PM |
Both shots gave me a sore arm for a week, but the first shot left me curled up in bed feeling flu-y for about eight hours before it went away within minutes.
Everyone I know who's had shingles says any side effects are worth never contracting the disease.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 19, 2023 11:34 PM |
Shingricksh.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 19, 2023 11:42 PM |
Same, it seems, as with any vaccine. It doesn’t bother me much; my husband is dying for a day or two but comes around.
A friend got shingles that first appeared halfway home on a flight from India. He said it was agony. I got the Shingrix shots.

[QUOTE] The side effects were strong, and terrible:: 101 degree fever, aches, chills, nausea.
Oh My God!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 20, 2023 12:05 AM |
Mildly sore arm.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 20, 2023 12:08 AM |
I had the shots. Just get it!
When you get shingles near your eyes because you "just didn't feel comfortable" don't come crying to me, idiot!

I'm 62 and my doctor wants me to get the vaccine, but I'm going to wait.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 20, 2023 12:11 AM |
For what, R25? It's nasty when it happens ... to YOU if you had chicken pox.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 20, 2023 12:14 AM |
Get it, R25. Don’t wait.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 20, 2023 12:14 AM |
I should add that even though I got both doses of Shingrix, I got Shingles a year later. But because I had the vaccine, it was a very mild case.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 20, 2023 12:29 AM |
Sore arm and headache. Last a couple days, but that's it.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 20, 2023 12:31 AM |
Had both several years ago - one on the same day as a flu vaccine - had a bit of soreness at the injection site but a friend felt punky for about 12 hours after her second shot.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 20, 2023 12:34 AM |
No reaction to either shot.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 20, 2023 12:38 AM |
I had both punctures. Only side effect was a sore hard knot at the puncture site for a few days.
Initially I thought this would be a yearly thing, but she told me "nope, you're done for life".
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 20, 2023 12:44 AM |
I had my first Shingrix dose last Halloween. I was due to have the 2nd dose two months later but I found out I had to begin chemo earlier than previously estimated, so I was unable to have my 2nd shot until about two weeks ago. I thought I would have to start all over again but my doctor said it was okay. Side effects for both were sore arm for about 3 days. Can't remember if I was fatigued after the first one, but after the 2nd shot, I was super tired for about 2-3 days.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 20, 2023 12:45 AM |
I had shingles one time 57 years ago. Back then treatment required me to go to the doctor every day for 7 days for a puncture. That was enough to make me get the vaccine
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 20, 2023 12:47 AM |
No side effects at all. Same for my partner.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 20, 2023 12:47 AM |
Why do shingles strike when we’re usually over 50?
One of my co workers, who’s only about 40, got shingles this year. He came back to work after a week with pox all over his face but otherwise not much worse than that. I wonder if he had a milder case because he’s rather young for it.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 20, 2023 12:50 AM |
I had dose #1 in April this year. Dose #2 in July. Both times, on the day after, every joint hurt, I could barely lift myself out of bed, my skin was hot without sweating, and it felt like someone had both punched and burned my arm. Once the day was over - both times - I was fine. I'm 53 (and felt twice that each time).

Just some soreness in my arm and body aches after the second shot. Much less painful than shingles.

None.

People with strong immune systems have more side effects, those that are weaker do not
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 20, 2023 2:06 AM |
I had progressively worse reactions with each COVID shot/booster shot R45, and no reaction to the Shingrix shots.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 20, 2023 2:59 AM |
R46 so weird with those Covid shots. I had exactly the same problem.
I’m two years out from Shingrix and I’ll dance to the pharmacy to get my doses. A friend had shingles. No thank you.

by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 20, 2023 3:20 AM |
Mildly sore arm for half a day the next day after the first shot. Nothing notable after the second.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 20, 2023 3:31 AM |
I'm 53 and just got the first dose last month. I was dreading the reaction I might have because my friend (who is 55) told me how bad her side effects were for both shots; I expected the worse.
Besides a fairly sore arm for 4-5 days, I got tired about halfway through the 2nd day and had to lay in bed for the rest of the day because it was like someone drained all the energy from me. The next day I was fine (besides the sore arm).
I'll get the 2nd shot next month and report back.

Sore arm, otherwise pretty unmemorable.

r50 here - forgot to report that my goddamn face broke out, especially my nose. My nose was actually a bit swollen for several days. No, I don't drink so it wasn't that.

I've had the first shot and had no side effects.

The vaccine drama stories on DL. So many wimps, too many lame stories.

"Ow, I heard that if you get a shot your arm will hurt the next day, so I'm not getting it." Think about it: these same men have sore asses for several days after getting gang fucked at their local sex party, yet, they keep going back week after week.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 20, 2023 12:59 PM |
I honestly think a lot of people who claim to have had bad side effects from the COVID and/or the Shingrix vaccines are just exaggerating.

I had shingles in my early 40s. My right leg hurt like I pulled a muscle for about a month then one day I look down I had spiral markings on my legs and thigh. I thought I had bed bugs or something. My doctor took one look and said "Shingles." I had no idea what it was. He prescribed Valtrex. He asked me if it hurt but it really didn't, I just told him about the leg pain for a month or so and he said that is the chicken pox virus basically crawling up your nerves back to the surface. I used apple cider vinegar on the little spiral markings and took my Valtrex and it cleared up. Apparently, I was lucky. My Step-Mother got it in her 60s and it was on her back. She was in so much pain she needed oxy.

Let me be the first to say it R57, shut up.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 20, 2023 1:40 PM |
R59, that’s just not true. I had shingles in my 30s, and it was awful. So I went for Shingrix right away. I woke up in the middle of the night shivering with a 101 degree fever, it was the only time I have had a real reaction. It was not exaggerated or made up.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 20, 2023 1:44 PM |
the reaction is much worse than that covid vaccine
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 20, 2023 1:48 PM |
r65 that was my only side effect between the aches, the shivering. For some reason at night I would get the shivers from a small breeze. It only lasted a couple of nights. Advil seemed to take care of the aches.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 20, 2023 1:52 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 20, 2023 1:55 PM |
R64. No thanks. I’ve had shingles and I’ve had the two-shot sequence. I’ve had many other vaccinations. My experience is valid, as is my post.
