I Want to be Underwhelmed—Smell the Croci—Early Spring 2022

Hurry—before the rabbits get ‘em.

by Anonymousreply 595May 29, 2022 9:14 PM

Where were we?

by Anonymousreply 1March 1, 2022 5:41 PM

Night Blooming Jasmine season started Sunday night in L.A. Delicious.

by Anonymousreply 2March 1, 2022 5:55 PM

My “Seafoam” camellias have started blooming. Look it up to see a pic.

by Anonymousreply 3March 1, 2022 8:46 PM

How is it March already? The older I get, the more whelmed I am by how quickly time passes.

by Anonymousreply 4March 2, 2022 6:40 AM

Another month means that it's time to start thinking of taking the vehicle through the car wash again.

by Anonymousreply 5March 2, 2022 6:45 PM

I just let the rain take care of it.

by Anonymousreply 6March 2, 2022 7:41 PM

a tulip I did not plant, and was not there last year, is poking up.

by Anonymousreply 7March 2, 2022 8:40 PM

We don't get much rain here most of the year, R6.

by Anonymousreply 8March 2, 2022 9:14 PM

I am quite whelmed by Cosmo posting that they are female. All this time I had been imagining them as male. Slightly nauseous with shock and about to take a half Xanax with the requisite cup of warm milk.

by Anonymousreply 9March 2, 2022 10:12 PM

I thought it was getting warmer.

by Anonymousreply 10March 2, 2022 10:15 PM

Re: first insect of the season. I always note the first one, too. It, along with that first day when the sun against your face feels properly warm and everything is melting/sounds of melting, is the official sign that winter is over.

Where I am in Canada I haven't seen the first bug and we haven't had the melty day yet.

by Anonymousreply 11March 2, 2022 10:22 PM

Take it with grapefruit juice r9.

by Anonymousreply 12March 3, 2022 12:57 AM

Please leave, R12. How whelming. I most definitely will NOT take my Xanax with grapefruit juice.

by Anonymousreply 13March 3, 2022 5:59 AM

My god, can you bitches at least be interesting/ amusing while being underwhelming?

by Anonymousreply 14March 3, 2022 10:01 AM

Saw the first carpenter bee of Spring just around lunchtime today. It is about 3 weeks early this year.

by Anonymousreply 15March 3, 2022 6:16 PM

A dog (think it was a cockapoo) growled and barked at me earlier today in the street. Then, less than thirty seconds later - before I'd even got the end of the street - another cockapoo saw me, wagged its tail and jumped up on me. Don't know WTF I did to get such disparate reactions from two dogs in such a short space of time. I wasn't wearing a new scent or anything.

by Anonymousreply 16March 3, 2022 8:39 PM

r16 , it was a set up. Those two bitches are fucking with you.

by Anonymousreply 17March 3, 2022 8:44 PM

I saw a bunch of robins in my front yard. Some of my spring flowers are coming up. I can't wait for spring!

by Anonymousreply 18March 4, 2022 12:05 PM

I'm sorry you are whelmed by me, R9. If it's any consolation, Cosmo is male and swishes his tail like he's walking the runway on RuPaul's Drag Race.

by Anonymousreply 19March 4, 2022 12:16 PM

Do croci have a scent?

by Anonymousreply 20March 4, 2022 12:24 PM

I have a sprained ankle from falling on the ice and it hurts like fuck. I am so done with winter and looking forward to spring.

by Anonymousreply 21March 4, 2022 1:08 PM

Thank you, R19. The palpitations have mostly ceased and I only needed 1/4 xan with my warm milk this afternoon. Greetings to Cosmo the cat from Alice the dog.

by Anonymousreply 22March 4, 2022 10:25 PM

r20, they have a fresh, mildly sweet scent that is detectable when you smell a mass of croci, but, dare I say, underwhelming when you smell only one. Not unlike cherry blossoms.

by Anonymousreply 23March 4, 2022 11:02 PM

They ain’t no hyacinths.

by Anonymousreply 24March 4, 2022 11:09 PM

The callalilies are in bloom again!

by Anonymousreply 25March 4, 2022 11:53 PM

Our snowdrops came up today. A welcome first sign of spring

by Anonymousreply 26March 5, 2022 12:48 AM

I’m glad you chimed in Cosmo @ r19. R9’s post pissed me off, but I didn’t want to whelm the thread. He already proved himself to be the biggest Mary since Phyllis Stephens with his Xanax & milk nonsense. I think most of us have known you are female & feline for quite awhile now. I mean, ‘so what, who cares?’

by Anonymousreply 27March 5, 2022 1:55 AM

I tried to grow calla lilies once. Never came up. Now I feel like reading Katharine Hepburn's autobiography again.

by Anonymousreply 28March 5, 2022 3:04 AM

I pvr'd Garbo Talks with Ron Silver and Anne Bancroft. Thought it would be a better film but there were some good bits.

by Anonymousreply 29March 5, 2022 3:05 AM

[quote]I pvr'd Garbo Talks with Ron Silver and Anne Bancroft. Thought it would be a better film but there were some good bits.

Fun fact: In the brief shot of "Garbo," she's played by Betty Comden.

by Anonymousreply 30March 5, 2022 4:18 AM

[quote]I tried to grow calla lilies once. Never came up.

Such a strange flower, suitable to any occasion.

by Anonymousreply 31March 5, 2022 4:22 AM

Crocus pistils are saffron, at least one species. So it would seem there has to be *something* there, odor-wise.

by Anonymousreply 32March 5, 2022 12:32 PM

A supermarket dilemma...

I don't care for Peeps, but the ten-pack includes a cute plush chick.

by Anonymousreply 33March 9, 2022 5:30 PM

R33, buy the 10-pack, keep the cute plush chick, and throw the Peeps out back for the neighborhood feral cats.

by Anonymousreply 34March 9, 2022 5:34 PM

[quote]I saw a bunch of robins in my front yard. Some of my spring flowers are coming up. I can't wait for spring!

I've never seen a "bunch" of robins in my life - usually they go out solo.

by Anonymousreply 35March 9, 2022 5:38 PM

I always have Trader Joe's Wild Caught Sockeye Salmon for lunch on Wednesdays. I cook it in the oven basted in olive oil then I squeeze lemon juice on it and dip the pieces in Champagne dill mustard. Today, however I'm trying a recipe I found at the NYT. It calls for a mixture of Dijon mustard and brown sugar spread over the salmon pieces and cook for twelve minutes- which I'm doing now. I hope it turns out well. I am still going to squeeze lemon juice over the whole thing when I take it out of the oven.

by Anonymousreply 36March 9, 2022 5:41 PM

Sounds good, R36, but also an almost whelming amount of work for lunch.

by Anonymousreply 37March 9, 2022 5:44 PM

There are hawks nesting in the hollow below my yard. I am concerned that the doves in the same hollow will relocate, and I'd miss their pretty nose noises.

by Anonymousreply 38March 9, 2022 5:47 PM

I should also mention that there is also an owl somewhere down there as well. Lovely bird sounds around the clock are mine, riches take many forms.

by Anonymousreply 39March 9, 2022 5:48 PM

I just finished the salmon. It was really good, so good that I will probably make the same again next Wednesday.

by Anonymousreply 40March 9, 2022 6:02 PM

Thanks for the info, R3. I need to eat more salmon. Do you buy skinless or with the skin? I like crispy skin on my salmon so a fry in a bit of oil. I love salmon with dijon mustard. I assume you are baking the salmon?

Not exactly underwhelming BUT it's snowing here in northwest NJ. In fact, it's been snowing since about 9 am. The landscaping company just came through to plow the street and courtyards. It took some time to stick to the pavement. We haven't had much plowable snow so I guess that's why they plowed. My condo assn has an annual contract for snow/ice removal and landscaping (seeding and cutting the grass.)

by Anonymousreply 41March 9, 2022 8:39 PM

Sockeye salmon is the shit. So is Chinook/king salmon. A real indulgence if one has the funds, which I only very occasionally do. I don't know if others will disagree, R41, and I suppose it comes down to personal taste, but I prefer my salmon just barely cooked. I cook it in the pan skin side down (so it gets crispy) and take it out when it's still raw on the top layer. Some will think that gross but oh well that's how I like it.

by Anonymousreply 42March 9, 2022 9:05 PM

R41- I buy Trader Joe's frozen Wild Caught Sockeye Salmon from Alaska WITH the skin on. It's a rarity that a NYT recipe is actually good but this is one of those times.

by Anonymousreply 43March 10, 2022 12:21 AM

Back at the office 3x per week. I am most certainly underwhelmed.

by Anonymousreply 44March 10, 2022 8:04 AM

Sounds pretty whelming to me r44!

by Anonymousreply 45March 10, 2022 8:07 AM

I usually have TWO boiled eggs for breakfast on Thursday, unfortunately I only had one egg left, therefore I'm only having ONE boiled egg for breakfast today.

by Anonymousreply 46March 10, 2022 12:42 PM

You could always lay another one r46.

by Anonymousreply 47March 10, 2022 12:43 PM

R47- I had some beautiful birds at my bird feeder yesterday. I would not mind being a pretty male Cardinal. I could preen my feathers all day and look at my pretty male Cardinal self in the mirror all day.

by Anonymousreply 48March 10, 2022 12:45 PM

That won't get you many eggs though r48.

by Anonymousreply 49March 10, 2022 12:48 PM

I opened a box of pancake mix and a bug flew out. I didn't eat breakfast.

by Anonymousreply 50March 10, 2022 12:51 PM

R50- Good. It wouldn't hurt you to lose a few pounds.

by Anonymousreply 51March 10, 2022 12:53 PM

^Those "bugs" that fly out of flour and such are typically the kind of moths that eat sweaters. Little gold-colored ugly things, that will roost on your wall about 5 to 8 feet from the floor. I have had LOTS of experience with them before. Once they take up residence in your dwelling, they are damn hard to get rid of, and they cause big damage to carpets and wool garments. Just pointing that out...

by Anonymousreply 52March 10, 2022 12:55 PM

R51 Haven't I been through enough today?

by Anonymousreply 53March 10, 2022 12:56 PM

Sorry R53- Just an attempt at humor.

by Anonymousreply 54March 10, 2022 12:57 PM

When the robins return they arrive en masse at my house.

by Anonymousreply 55March 10, 2022 1:56 PM

R55- The GRACKLES have arrived en masse at my bird feeder. They are beautiful birds with their piercing yellow eyes and iridescent feathers.

Out of 7 avocados (I'll be making a large amount of guac, leave me alone), 2 are very slightly squishy this afternoon. The rest are all still rock hard. I deliberately bought them all rock hard yesterday so they would be ripening by Friday evening. Goddamn unpredictable vegetables whelming me!!

by Anonymousreply 62March 10, 2022 9:36 PM

R62 I think there's a way to speed them up but I'm not sure.

by Anonymousreply 63March 10, 2022 10:51 PM

Put the avocado in a paper bag with a banana.

by Anonymousreply 64March 11, 2022 12:07 AM

But I don't have any bananas, R64!

*downs xanax*

by Anonymousreply 65March 11, 2022 3:26 AM

Will the bananas solve the 'ripening at different rates' problem or will they all simply ripen faster, but still at different rates?

by Anonymousreply 66March 11, 2022 3:27 AM

R64- I want to facilitate the ripening of my bananas. Would this method be effective for bananas?

by Anonymousreply 67March 11, 2022 3:35 AM

Just be patient, R67. Bananas generally go from green to brown in about a day and a half without your doing anything to speed them along.

by Anonymousreply 68March 11, 2022 4:21 AM

R68- I want them to go from yellow to covered in FRECKLES.

by Anonymousreply 69March 11, 2022 4:30 AM

I love guacamole.

by Anonymousreply 70March 11, 2022 6:39 AM

R69 is an imposter! I am the real R67!

And me too, R70. There will be so much guac tomorrow (or Saturday, if that's what the avocados decide) that I will be weeping guac-y tears.

by Anonymousreply 71March 11, 2022 7:23 AM

I love guac as well... just no diced tomato, please.

by Anonymousreply 72March 11, 2022 11:39 AM

Re bananas ripening too fast: the best way to avoid this is to buy the organic ones (they usually cost 10 cents more per pound). Non-organic bananas are doused with some kind of chemical (google says ethylene) to induce them to ripen more quickly. The organic ones, obviously, are not treated with this, and so they ripen at a more leisurely pace than the so-called conventional ones. A bunch of organic bananas is typically still perfectly edible a week after you bring them home from the store.

by Anonymousreply 73March 11, 2022 12:23 PM

If one picks the very first wild violet, they will have luck thru out the year.

by Anonymousreply 74March 11, 2022 12:26 PM

Had a red bellied woodpecker eating peanuts from the feeder. Also the goldfinch mob is eating a pound of thistle a week. Hungry buggers.

by Anonymousreply 75March 11, 2022 12:32 PM

I'm glad it's sunny today.

by Anonymousreply 76March 11, 2022 12:56 PM

Sitting with my morning coffee watching the birds on my bird feeder. There's a huge female flicker on my suet stick, and a bright red cardinal on the feeder.

by Anonymousreply 77March 11, 2022 1:00 PM

I gave up on my bird feeder because the rock pigeons and house sparrows eat everything. I gave a large feeder and it’s emptied in 24 hours.

by Anonymousreply 78March 11, 2022 3:28 PM

Since I was not driving, had a Bloody Mary with lunch today - very well made with only a strip of bacon as garnish.

by Anonymousreply 79March 11, 2022 9:10 PM

there's a native orchid blooming by the creek and in the yard. not an impressive flower but pretty nonetheless

by Anonymousreply 80March 11, 2022 9:26 PM

Fast Times at Ridgemont High was on tv last night and it was funny to think Spiccoli, who hated history class, is in a war zone right now, filming history.

by Anonymousreply 81March 12, 2022 12:34 AM

I have been whelmed for days over this bomb cyclone they keep predicting and the inches upon inches of snow they say are coming. I first read about it in Vermont, where I hunkered down in a hotel for two nights after it began, waiting until the snowplows cleaned up the mess. THANK YOU, SNOWPLOW DRIVERS.

Then I set out for Buffalo on nice clear roads this morning and now I’m in God-alone-knows-where New York where TWO storms are predicted for the weekend. I have no chains! I can’t spend every night in a hotel! I’m in my bed in my campervan in a Wal-Mart parking lot with popcorn and everything I need in terms of food and warmth, but whelmed hardly begins to describe my overall state. I dread even looking out the curtains because what if it’s solid snow. Spring cannot possibly come soon enough!

by Anonymousreply 82March 12, 2022 1:06 AM

^I wouldn't be surprised if some pretty unsavory types haunt the Vermont Walmart parking lots. Here in the South, I wouldn't be caught dead in one after 9 p.m., considering what goes on in them even during daylight hours. Overwhelming, I know, but you're plenty old enough to know what you're in for.

by Anonymousreply 83March 12, 2022 1:10 AM

I am not finding this thread to be as comforting as I was led to expect.

by Anonymousreply 84March 12, 2022 7:46 AM

I'm so sorry, R84. Some of the recent posts have been whelming, haven't they? Get yourself a cup of warm milk, a blanky and/or a pet, and have a watch of this. Off to Underwhelmedsville with you.

A puppy licked my hands on the bus this afternoon. I think it liked the smell of the pineapple I ate earlier that was still on my fingers.

by Anonymousreply 90March 12, 2022 11:14 PM

You can soften avocados quickly by wrapping them in foil and baking them, then chilling. My mother used to do this for Christmas, when available avocados in Chicago are hard as rocks.

by Anonymousreply 91March 12, 2022 11:22 PM

thunderstorm this morning and i thought...snow in seven days, but it's spring, no way!

it snowed/sleeted this afternoon.

by Anonymousreply 92March 12, 2022 11:24 PM

[quote] Out of 7 avocados (I'll be making a large amount of guac, leave me alone), 2 are very slightly squishy this afternoon.

You can put avocados (and bananas) in the refrigerator when they arrive at the ripeness you like. They'll keep for at least a couple of days.

by Anonymousreply 93March 12, 2022 11:29 PM

When I peed yesterday evening I had some slight pain in my pee tube. Today during the day it was fine, but then this evening it was paining slightly again on two occasions.

by Anonymousreply 95March 12, 2022 11:44 PM

Urinary tract infection, R94?

by Anonymousreply 96March 13, 2022 12:03 AM

R88- What size tv?

I can look up what tv Consumer Report recommends if you let me know the size of the tv you want to buy.

by Anonymousreply 97March 13, 2022 12:11 AM

R93 Although I dislike a cold banana, that's a good tip.

by Anonymousreply 98March 13, 2022 12:23 AM

Thank you R91 and R93, I will keep these tips in mind should there be further mass avocado purchases.

Since I know you're all dying to know, 5 out of 7 avocados were in perfect condition a few hours ago. 1 was under ripe, 1 slightly (but only slightly) over. I set aside Mr. Under Ripe and made guac from the other 6. It is delicious. I am, as predicted, stuffed to the gills and there is now a large amount put away in the fridge.

by Anonymousreply 99March 13, 2022 12:41 AM

R37- A Pop Tart? Are you TWELVE years old?

by Anonymousreply 102March 13, 2022 2:23 PM

R100- The top rated 65 inch tv according to Consumer Reports is the LG-OLED65CXPUA which retails for $2,000.

by Anonymousreply 104March 13, 2022 4:40 PM

Thank you, R104. I was going to say something, but I was too flustered.

by Anonymousreply 105March 13, 2022 4:49 PM

I woke up, looked up at analog clock on wall and said, “ok it’s almost ten, which means it’s almost nine. I can go back to sleep.” Luckily I rolled over & saw time on cable box.

I can’t find bat faced Cuphea online except some Etsy scammer who wants too much for a bare root. I first bought it last summer and fell in love. Got the only one at the garden center. Alas, winter kills. It’s so cute! Humm8ngbirds love it and it looked really good with white gold lantana.

I'm planning a walk this afternoon after my last Zoom call. I feel like I need some fresh air since I haven't left the house since Friday.

This may be whelming but I had a visit from a very good-looking (straight) police officer yesterday. My iPhone completely stopped responding and I was trying to do the reset (volume up and the off button on the right hand side.) Unfortunately, it activated the SOS call. I spoke with a dispatcher who said she would cancel the call. The officer said he was aware of the cancellation but he still had to check it out. I told him about my iPhone problem and said "You probably can't help with that" but he offered to take a look. He came upstairs and was able to fix my phone. When I provided my birthdate info, he told me his wife is pregnant and that is her due date.

I share this story in hopes that DL would re-write the ending to their satisfaction. :-)

by Anonymousreply 119March 14, 2022 5:24 PM

Did the same thing R116. I managed to hit the SOS buttons a few times but always turned it off before my phone made a call. The last time I dragged the Emergency SOS slider thinking I was turning it off and got a call back from the dispatcher. I turned off the feature immediately afterwards.

R116 here. I did manage a short walk to Pet Goods. Cos needed dry food (Hill's Science Diet - Perfect Weight). He's been such a good boy I also bought him 2 catnips cigars; on blue and one pink.

Louie after cursing himself out for screwing up told me not to worry about it. I left him a $5 tip.

I made a runny meatloaf (I don't know how), but it was a little better as leftovers.

by Anonymousreply 128March 16, 2022 11:02 AM

My right ear is still plugged.

by Anonymousreply 129March 16, 2022 12:56 PM

From the runny meatloaf?

by Anonymousreply 130March 16, 2022 1:08 PM

Yesterday I was at Whole Foods and I bought the LAST container of Little Rae's Bakery Luck O The Irish Butter Cookies- I gobbled them all up ( my weight is up considerably this morning). I enjoyed them so much but they were so over priced $9.99 for eight cookies. Unfortunately they were/are so tasty that I couldn't resist buying them again yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 131March 16, 2022 1:42 PM

R128, I buy the beef-pork-veal mixture when I make meatloaf. Because of the fat, I don't cook it in a loaf pan. I cook it in a pan that allows most of the oil to cook out. I'm not sure what you used for your meatloaf but this may be why it was runny?

by Anonymousreply 132March 16, 2022 2:36 PM

My God, I cooked these pork-chops PERFECTLY.

by Anonymousreply 133March 16, 2022 2:47 PM

R133- I must ask this question- Did you serve them with applesauce ( Brady Bunch Style)?

by Anonymousreply 134March 16, 2022 2:48 PM

^Nope. But I am eating one with my fingers.

by Anonymousreply 135March 16, 2022 2:52 PM

You're having them for breakfast? I'm not sure what time zone you're in

by Anonymousreply 136March 16, 2022 2:55 PM

Chef John's latest recipe Polenta Lasagna looks delicious and I will definitely be making it.

I think I will make an aluminum foil "sling" for it like I do for brownies to remedy the problem he had getting it out of the pan.

I don't know why he didn't think of making a sling, him being a Chef and all.

[quote] Went out for happy hour. After signing the receipt I realized the bartender gave me the wrong bill. Instead of three glasses of chardonnay for $3 and a $5 Mediterranean salad he charged me for a specialty martini and mussels for a total of $10. Louie after cursing himself out for screwing up told me not to worry about it. I left him a $5 tip.

Even for happy hour, $3 for 3 chardonnays sounds extremely inexpensive.

R136 - I am in Eastern (Daylight) Time. I stopped eating after 2 pm on Jan 23, so yeah, I eat "dinner" type foods for breakfast and lunch now. The pork chop was about 3 days old and had to be eaten or thrown away...I've lost exactly 30 pounds since Jan. 23rd, and will keep on going with it. I think it's possible I may just stop eating after the midday meal, permanently.

I moved a nest from my garage, that has 4 tiny eggs, to the porch. I put it in the corner on top of a column where it is well shielded from the elements. On the opposite side of the porch another nest, in the same type of spot, has a mom and dad bird close by. The moved nest does not have the same parents (I thought the moved nest parents would find the moved nest as it is close to the garage..I’m a dumbass apparently). The good news is the porch parents have adopted the other nest. The bad news is I have facilitated an illegal adoption.

I got a Denny's gift card at Christmas and finally went to use it today. On a random Wednesday at 10 a.m., the place was PACKED. And there was apparently one waitress having to do everything. I ADORE Chef John/Food Wishes. He had a recipe.video for a grilled cheese and greens type sandwich for St. Patrick's Day a couple of years ago and goddamn it's one of the best sandwiches i ever had. Super easy, too.

Also, re: food vs sex and what I think about more, from about 14 until a few years ago it was sex. Now, as a woman in my 40s, I feel oddly childlike as the interest in sex sharply wanes and the thoughts of candy and cake return as if from a dream.

Did you know it’s seagull mating season?

Birds have mating calls in spring. The most commonly recognized one is the song sparrow. Well, seagulls start calling in spring, too. All winter long seagulls sail around the sky here, completely silent. But starting in late Feb through May, you’ll hear seagulls calling, laughing, making odd noises. It’s to attract a mate. Then the young hatch ant begin making sounds themselves “testing” their voices. I always notice seagulls high in the sky (over land) waaay up so high they block the sun, slowly whirling. Their feathers are so bright white and outlined by the sun in a yellow orange halo.

If you have seagulls in your area, look up in April and watch them slowly wheeling in the sky in a sunny day.

by Anonymousreply 155March 17, 2022 5:00 PM

Could you please remind me in April?

by Anonymousreply 156March 17, 2022 5:02 PM

[quote] I ADORE Chef John/Food Wishes.

You sent me off to google R171, and I found this:

[quote]limited edition sparkling beverage from Coca-Cola Creations. Experience a subtle cooling sensation as you enjoy the reddish Starlight space flavoured beverage, a new but familiar Coca-Cola taste.

I am slightly whelmed by that description, tbh. On the one hand it says nothing. This drink is "reddish" and "space flavoured?" "New but familiar Coca Cola taste?" What??? On the other hand, I now want to try it. So whatever they did there worked.

So does it taste like regular Coke or what? I'm annoyed by the fact that I'm curious about this.

by Anonymousreply 178March 19, 2022 9:37 PM

Well, R166? Did it taste like orange creamsicle or not? I have tried a number of things that have been reported to taste (or smell) like orange creamsicle. All except 1 failed. How disappointing. Am attaching a link to the only one that lived up to the hype. Note this is for sniffing not drinking.

Do orange creamsicles themselves still exist, btw?

by Anonymousreply 179March 19, 2022 9:43 PM

I can't describe the taste R178 but it has a hint of cinnamon spice or mint depending on the person or the bottle.

[quote]When Coke hinted at Starlight tasting like a campfire, Redditors wondered if it tastes like s'mores, with one suggesting is tastes like "Teddy Grahams and cola." Of course in true internet fashion, everybody has a different impression of the new beverage. One person tweeted that it tastes like "caramel plum and the feeling you get when you inhale really cold air," while another wrote that Starlight "tastes like Coke but has an aftertaste of cereal milk." Another Twitter user thinks the new beverage has notes of cotton candy, while one Redditor commented, "It tastes like floor." Clearly not everyone is a fan of the mysterious new drink. There have also been conflicting reports of mint flavor and cinnamon spice.

by Anonymousreply 181March 20, 2022 3:35 AM

[quote]Well, [R166]? Did it taste like orange creamsicle or not?

The Polar Orange Vanilla seltzer initially tastes like a creamsicle but then there is an immediate chemical aftertaste that ruins everything.

I only experiment with trying new flavors when they are BOGO, I get one I already know I like and one wild card. Wild card was a bust this time.

by Anonymousreply 184March 20, 2022 5:30 PM

Ha! I just found out why the annual salvia Wendy’s Wish I bought last summer had such ugly calyx and held onto it’s scanty blooms instead of dropping them, thus making me able to snap the stem and have a new, floriferous stem rise up and replace it.

Because it was not a salvia! It was Texas betony, a stachys! There was no label on it and it was sitting with other annual salvias in the garden center. So the garden center workers were also stumped into thinking it was salvia. No wonder I only saw hummingbirds zoom in & immediately zoom out. The people who wrote the description of stachys coccinea say it’s a hummingbird attractant. The birds were attracted but not impressed. They preferred butterfly bushes, salvia amistad, salvia black & blue, and salvia rocking fuschia to the wan Texas betony.

R173, your vet was okay with Kittenzilla weighing 17.5 lbs. at 18 months? My vet says Cos should be not be more than 14 or 15 lbs. He'll be 6 on April 19th and is an indoor cat.

I'm not trying to whelm anyone but I'm curious because I'm freaking out about keeping Cos under 15 lbs. He still runs around like a bat out of hell and jumps effortlessly. I’m partially right. It wasn’t bred in a Russian lab but it’s considered an invasive weed in North America. I translated it to MARY! thistle.

Silybum marianum has been widely introduced outside its natural range, for example into North America, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Colombia where it is considered an invasive weed. All you need to use on your feet is Kerasal. Put it on at night, cover feet with soft socks, go to sleep. Be amazed in 5he morining. After one week, your feet will look like brand new. It’s not cheap. It has to be the Kerasal exfoliant foot smoother NOT the Kerasal fungus cream.

Dr Scholl has an exfoliant foot cream that’s less expensive. Use a tube ion Kerasal first. When it’s finished you can buy the Dr Scholl exfoliant as a maintenance cream.

by Anonymousreply 202March 22, 2022 12:32 AM

Kittenzilla is a ragdoll so he is genetically a big boy as they can be up to 20 lbs. That said, the vet says he should be more like 16, and that I should be able to feel each rib under his massive fluff. Right now I can feel only a few. So he is.a bit chub. I will cut back on the free feeding of kibble and reduce the pate as well. His buddy is an 8 lb Siamese that is perfect weight so and they eat together so I may have to do the pate separately. The Siamese resorts to kibble only when necessary. Little fusspot!

I'm having crustless pumpkin pie for breakfast with a dollop of homemade whipped cream.

Came across a can of pumpkin puree in my pantry yesterday and decided I wanted pumpkin pie. I wasn't motivated to make a crust so I made crustless pumpkin pie. Libby has crustless pumpkin pie recipe on their site along with cooking times and temps for the crustless version. They even have it broken down by size and material of pan. I opted for an 8x8 glass square baking dish so my pie is actually cut into squares. I used less sugar than called for in the Libby recipe and it is just as good with less.

That is all.

R236 yes I think the tomato paste only a year out of date is probably fine. Do let us know if you die or spend hours on the pooper.

by Anonymousreply 238March 24, 2022 4:32 PM

R238- I guess I’ll have to toss it out. If it expired in February 2021 I may have bought it February 2020 which would make that tomato 🍅 paste TWO years old.

by Anonymousreply 239March 24, 2022 5:57 PM

Tomato paste certainly isn't a luxury item, R239. For your sake, for Martha Stewart's sake, and for the sake of your vegetarian chili, I would suggest buying a new can,

by Anonymousreply 240March 24, 2022 6:04 PM

240- Thanks 🙏

I will.

I did not buy pussy willows for $21.99/bunch. That would have been whelming. But it was tempting for 30 sec until I remembered I have no money.

by Anonymousreply 242March 24, 2022 7:57 PM

Canned goods can last for many many years. The date on the can isn't meant to indicate that it has expired like perishable goods do. It's just the "best by" date which is totally arbitrary and partially intended to move more product. In some canneries, they will wash the date off and put new ones on the cans on older stockpiles. A year-old tomato sauce is almost certainly fine.

There's a new Carhartt store on the other side of town. Expensive AND underwhelming: $109 for a summer weight denim work shirt. One Medium in stock. Multiple size 4-X, though. Do they know their audience?

The traffic wasn't bad for a Saturday. We stopped at Trader Joe's on the way home. Peanut butter is still $2.29.

Just tried that Coke Starlight we were discussing earlier. It's...good. Really good, even. And weird af. It tastes the way a big 80s oriental-gourmand perfume smells. There's almost a cake note to it. Also:

- trashy flavour. white trashy. this is a drink for the sundeck off the back of the mobile home. no shade, poors, I am one of you.

- the cake I mentioned is yellow cake, from a box

- carnival fairway/sweet popcorn

- the scent is more distinct and at least as interesting as the taste. I would love the backstory on this scent, actually, how the meetings went, the discussions, how it was picked etc.

- nostalgia. candy. vanilla. childhood.

- I do like it. it's uncomplicated. someone talented could probably make a decent cocktail out of this. It would be hot pink and would involve Luxardo cherries (and syrup) and something either very sour or very bitter to balance it out.

- this does taste unique to me. it doesn't remind me of any soda I've ever had before. maybe very, very vaguely of cream soda but not much

- if this does well, Coke should release a perfume to go alongside it. Dibs on that idea Coke, call me.

by Anonymousreply 263March 27, 2022 2:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 264March 27, 2022 2:48 AM

1, R264. I don't drink a lot of pop and don't want to OD on sugar. They came in an 8 pack though (8 pack - weird), and the bottles are small. Just checked the size: 300ml. Google says a standard pop can is 355 ml. These are plastic bottles.

On the bright side, can't throw a stone around here without hitting someone who owns a lawn service.

Don’t put poison on your lawn.

Birds can’t feed nestlings because lawn services put pesticides on properties claiming they’re “safe.” Meanwhile, the local bay is losing all its crustaceans because they’re related to insects and bird populations have plummeted. All because people are hysterically afraid of ticks and grubs.

Where I live, April is always worse than March. We always get a few warm, sunny days in March. The daffodils bloom. We get high on spring. Then April - wind, rain, more wind, raw wind, rain. Depression. Late frosts.

R281- Just remember this-

THE CALLA LILLIES ARE IN BLOOM AGAIN

by Anonymousreply 286April 2, 2022 7:42 PM

I e been waking up all night long with pain in each upper arm. I’m my sleep I roll over & my head rests on my arm. I wake up in excruciating pain and have to raise my head & slowly move my arm down to my side and point my palm up. I go back to sleep and wake up within my head on my other arm and have to go through the same thing.

I also noticed I get really bad pa8n in my upper arm at night watching tv & have to rub Voltaren on it.

This morning it hit me like a jolt - these pains are coming from my vaccine injection sites. I had 3 COVID’s, the flu shot, a pneumonia shot & a shingles shot. The pains started just a few months ago. This never happened before. I don’t know if it’s because I got so many shots or maybe because some of my shots are given by technicians, not nurses. Pharmacy techs, techs at my Dr office. Maybe they hit a nerve or something.

Every night, two or three times a night I wake up in terrible pain on whichever arm my head was lying on.

I lost 4 lbs this week. My Jenny Craig consultant confirmed it on the scales at the center I go to every week.

by Anonymousreply 288April 3, 2022 12:23 AM

R288 I lost 25 lbs on Jenny Craig during the shutdown. My doctor said, “it’s all going to come right back when you go off the diet. Be aware of that.”

Well, I couldn’t take the food anymore. The food isn’t bad…it’s just not enough variety. After 6 months I couldn’t keep eating the same food over & over.

The weight came back.

by Anonymousreply 289April 3, 2022 12:44 AM

R289- I've lost about 32 pounds since June but I pretty much stopped losing weight in November. My body has made it very difficult for me to lose anymore weight. When I try to cut back my calories a bit more I get very hungry. It's also hard for me to maintain the weight I've lost. It's VERY hard work.

by Anonymousreply 290April 3, 2022 12:51 AM

Same here. After I lost the 25 lbs I stayed on Jenny Craig for several months & couldn't lose a lb. That’s when I went off the diet. Why keep eating the same food when it’s not leading to weight loss? I’m walking now several miles and still not losing

by Anonymousreply 291April 3, 2022 1:02 AM

How you gain weight is that your body multiplies its fat cells to store more fat in. Once you have them, they never go away. You can empty them out but maintaining that is very difficult in the long run. It's why so many diets fail - the only way to get rid of extra fat cells is lipo or some other physical removal. Sucks but it's true. These days I just focus on staying flexible and doing lots of walking. I'm fatter than I used to be but that is okay.

by Anonymousreply 292April 3, 2022 5:13 AM

This is a vapid/vacuous body that has hit every weight between 130 and 210 pounds at least twice as an adult.

Be patient with plateaus. You’ve performed an organic removal and your body has to recover from the loss.

Also, mood plays a part in stickiness. Right now, I’d like to go back to 160, but I’m in the middle of one of my “let’s flee the nazis” adventures and I’m hyper /worried at 140.

by Anonymousreply 293April 3, 2022 5:41 AM

I've lost 35 pounds by not eating after 2 pm, since January 23. I'm planning on losing a LOT more this way; the weight loss did slow down after the first 6 weeks and I had to get a little tougher about what I was (not) eating. And I am OK with the idea of not eating dinner anymore, as a permanent thing, except maybe on special occasions. I'm pretty used to it now. I kind of enjoy being hungry for a good part of each day. I've had no alcohol, no dessert, nothing with sugar in it, in 9 weeks and am eating probably as healthy a diet as I have in decades.

by Anonymousreply 294April 3, 2022 12:09 PM

^I decided to stop eating dinner because I had gone on a pretty severe diet on the Monday after New Years weekend, Jan 3. After 3 weeks of no alcohol and no junk food or dessert, with at least an hour of daily exercise, I had lost precisely 3 pounds in 3 weeks. It was so depressing that I decided to start just not eating supper and then see what happened. It has worked great for me.

by Anonymousreply 295April 3, 2022 12:13 PM

Speaking of weight loss, I bought some pork skins for snacking at the suggestion of a low carb fanatic friend. I made sure to get a brand with no MSG as he suggested. The smell upon opening the bag was off-putting, the taste further nauseated me. They went straight into the trash. Then I couldn't stand the thought of them even being in my kitchen so I took the trash out even though the bag wasn't even half full.

by Anonymousreply 296April 3, 2022 2:54 PM

R295- I skip dinner on Saturdays and Wednesdays- partial fasting

I've been doing this for over two years. By the time I eat breakfast later it will be 21+ hours since I've eaten. It's not only helpful for weight loss it's lowers your blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol etc even on the days you eat normal.

by Anonymousreply 297April 3, 2022 2:54 PM

I have a 2015 Honda fit that makes a grinding noise on a cold start. It used to occur only when the temperature was around freezing but it's happening more frequently and this morning the engine light went on. Took it to Pep Boys to check the code but when I pulled into the garage I didn't notice the engine light had turned off and the code had cleared.

The grinding noise is a known issue with Honda issuing a service bulletin 16-088: "The variable valve timing control (VTC) actuator is defective" but they don't have a recall and my car is out of warranty. There's a remote chance it's covered under the states emissions warranty since it could impact gas mileage.

Debating whether to spend the $1000 - $2000 to replace VTC. The higher cost is because the timing chain may need to be replaced as well.

by Anonymousreply 298April 3, 2022 6:08 PM

R298- I would do it. To replace your car with even another 2015 Fit would cost you $15k or more because used car prices have SKYROCKETED, even expensive repairs are far more economical then replacing the car altogether nowadays.

by Anonymousreply 299April 3, 2022 6:18 PM

I took my bike in because I thought I needed new tires. Turns out I did not close the valves after I pumped them up. Lol. A quick and free consult.

I don't care for Chia seeds. I'm supposed to put them in my morning smoothie as the protein source but they don't seem to wind up in the smoothie. They're always stuck to the side of the blender. The ones that do wind up in the smoothie keep blocking my straw. Should I put them in a spice grinder and then put them in the blender?

This morning's smoothie was pineapple and banana. It was pretty good.

A person I know told me she was sexually harassed by an individual who entered her business the other day and began masturbating in front of her. She said he displayed it all. She excused herself pretending to take a phone call in another room and he left. She described him as basically an undesirable. She notified the police after the incident and they made a report of the event. She has told me she thinks it happened because she recently lost 20 lbs. and made kind of snickered that her husband is upset the man showed her his penis. I’m not sure but she acts like she enjoyed the incident.

Yes 301 grinding the chia seeds helps in smoothies. Also try putting the wet ingredients in first. I'm not a fan of them in smoothies, personally, and though I do like chia pudding, it isn't very filling.

LOL, R319 and thank you, R318. I do put the wet ingredients in first. Maybe I should try melting the coconut oil; the fact that it's solid could be a factor. Now, I wish I hadn't donated my coffee bean blender!

by Anonymousreply 320April 4, 2022 8:04 PM

LOL R319!!

Oh yes, melt the coconut oil first - it's probably what's making the seeds stick to the blades! I put chia seeds in my very cheap blender all the time and they don't stick like you've described, but I don't use anything like coconut oil in mine.

by Anonymousreply 321April 4, 2022 8:07 PM

Yes, grind them first. I use the standard el cheapo Krups spice blender thing, mostly for flaxseeds, though. Someone already mentioned ground flax seeds, above.

Are you eating chia for a reason? Specific nutrients? I much prefer hemp seeds because they actually taste delicious (chia tastes of basically nothing to me) so I eat them separately and then don't have a too-thick smoothie. My smoothies are so healthy and literally disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 322April 4, 2022 8:48 PM

I have been putting fresh ginger in my smoothies. It is refreshing and delicious!

by Anonymousreply 323April 4, 2022 8:51 PM

And thus, R323, dangerously close to whelming.

by Anonymousreply 324April 5, 2022 2:21 AM

I'm watching That Girl on PlutoTV. Cloris Leachman is guest and playing Donald's sister. Ann is wearing some groovy red go-go boots. It's one of the later seasons where Ann's hair is long and straight with a middle part as opposed to the 60s hair flip with bangs. I really should be working and not watching sitcoms from 50 years ago...

by Anonymousreply 327April 5, 2022 11:57 AM

ampersand

ăm′pər-sănd″

noun

The character or sign (&) representing the word and.

A name formerly in use for the character & or & (also called short and), which is formed by combining the letters of the Latin et, and, and which is commonly placed at the end of the alphabet in primers.

A word used to describe the character , , or &.

Ampersand means “and,” but that doesn’t mean it can always be substituted for “and.” It’s used in titles, firm names and movie credits, but not generally in sentences as a replacement for “and.”

Interesting tidbit—in movie credits you will often see writing credits that use both & and “and.”

“Written by Joe & Mick” means they worked as a team. “Written by Joe and Mick” means they worked separately. “Written by Joe & Mick and Paul & Topper” indicates a troubled process.

More importantly, one slice of DKB contains 5 grams of sugar, which comes out to over 1 teaspoon of sugar - which is why I keep it in the freezer. If I had it every day, I'd type fat.

It freezes really well, as long as it is toasted.

Other items on current version of list: oyster crackers, King's Hawaiian bread (rolls?)

Muriel was telling me yesterday, at around Reply No. 340, that this thread was by that point only available to subscribers (which I am not, too scared to give someone that flaky my credit card info, frankly). Today, look what I'm doing, posting with ease? Overwhelming or not? She must be having another of her "spells."

by Anonymousreply 350April 6, 2022 11:28 AM

R333 You are incorrect.

The AP Stylebook has just a few guidelines for how and when to properly use the ampersand in your writing. They are listed as follows.

Use the ampersand when it is part of a company’s formal name or composition title. For example,

House & Garden Procter and Gamble B&O Railroad

AP Style holds that the ampersand should not otherwise be used in place of “and.” For example,

Correct: My favorite activities are reading and swimming. Wrong: My favorite activities are reading & swimming.

Yesterday, I walked to the Italian bakery near my house, as part of my daily walk, and bought their last loaf of Panella bread. It's supposed to be better for you than store bought because it has no preservatives in it. The girl behind the counter said it should last 3 or 4 days in the fridge so I'll be freezing most of it. I will make toad in the hole (whatever Rose Casterini makes in Moon Struck) this weekend. It's one of my favorite breakfasts.

R349, the Dave's Killer Bread that I tried had the green label, the 21 Whole Grains & Seeds. There are other varieties, but others can chime in on that.

I don't mind the origins of DKB. Sad, though, if he returned to a life of crime / drugs.

Years ago, I worked at a department store that still had a candy counter in the basement. There were also nuts and other junk. I’ll never forget some lady’s “OH MY GAWD, there’s bugs in the bags of nuts!” I went over, sure enough…the miracle of life was taking place on that table next to the escalator.

I’ve always disliked converse-style sneakers because they have no cushioning in them and the tread used to fail all the time.

Skip ahead to senility.

I was forced to buy sneakers at 3am (you were with me in another tab). They’ve arrived, but I need insoles.

Luckily, their 8 runs large for me, so a bouncy gel insole wouldn’t take up too much room.

Confession; my conspiracy theory is that some countries hate my shoe size and refuse to serve tiny-feets freaks.

Tomorrow will be Take Your Bathroom Mirror to Work day!

by Anonymousreply 412April 14, 2022 4:43 PM

[quote]I look quite attractive in the mirror but like a troll in photos. It's not fair.

I don't want to whelm you, but photos generally give you a better idea of what you actually look like. When we look at ourselves in a mirror, we unconsciously make little changes in our facial expressions to improve our appearance:. a half-smile here, some flirty eye movements there, all things that are harder to control when someone takes a picture. Everyone takes a bad picture occasionally, of course, but mirrors are generally less truthful than photography.

by Anonymousreply 413April 14, 2022 5:23 PM

There's also the theory that we're used to seeing the mirror (flipped image) of our faces. In photos, we see what other people see. If your face has an asymmetry, e.g., left eyebrow is 2 mm higher than the right eyebrow. We see that and get used to that in the mirror. In photos, though, that right eyebrow now looks 4 mm off b/c the image is flipped. I hope that made sense.

Tonight, for some unfathomable reason, I remembered an old comic strip from when I was a kid, Henry. It was about a lumpen bald boy who always wore tight black shorts, even in winter. I mentioned it to my friend, who said he remembered Henry.

My hydrangea committed foliagicide last year. No matter how hard I tried to be there for it, it just couldn’t overcome its demons.

by Anonymousreply 493April 24, 2022 11:02 PM

It’s a Limelight. Always pale green flowers, almost white. They dried to beige. Not terribly exciting.

by Anonymousreply 494April 24, 2022 11:21 PM

you are posting on the "underwhelmed" thread.

by Anonymousreply 495April 24, 2022 11:32 PM

Ring a ding ding

by Anonymousreply 496April 24, 2022 11:36 PM

No one has been underwhelmed for 48 hrs? What is the world coming to?

by Anonymousreply 497April 26, 2022 10:25 PM

I vacuumed my mattress.

by Anonymousreply 498April 26, 2022 10:26 PM

All is underwhelmingly right with the world r497.

by Anonymousreply 499April 26, 2022 10:43 PM

I flicked a bean

by Anonymousreply 500April 26, 2022 10:51 PM

I’m impressed, R498; I merely turned mine.

by Anonymousreply 501April 27, 2022 12:13 AM

I visited a Trader Joe's for the first time in 10 years (due to geography). I bought a container of frozen taquitos and gobbled them down for lunch and dinner.

by Anonymousreply 502April 27, 2022 12:18 AM

[quote]I flicked a bean

We kicked a Beanie.

by Anonymousreply 503April 27, 2022 2:36 AM

We have four dogs and I've been buying them beef jerky every night for a treat. They love me so much now. But I decided it was too expensive and today was the first day I didn't have any. They wiggled and wagged their tales all around me, but I had nothing. They were SO disappointed that tomorrow I'm going to have to start again.

by Anonymousreply 504April 27, 2022 2:52 AM

R504 Is your name Old Mother Hubbard?

by Anonymousreply 505April 27, 2022 3:19 AM

Reasoning with dogs about finances only makes you feel better, so go with that.

by Anonymousreply 506April 27, 2022 3:51 AM

My chin is twitching. I think it’s a muscle spasm. It will not go away. I’ve had it for five days now. Am I gonna die?

by Anonymousreply 507April 27, 2022 9:38 AM

^whelming

by Anonymousreply 508April 27, 2022 12:30 PM

[quote]Am I gonna die?

Only if you promise to do it quietly.

by Anonymousreply 509April 27, 2022 12:39 PM

R507 here. Seriously I do have a muscle spasm in my chin. It’s really annoying me. Has anyone else experienced this?

by Anonymousreply 510April 27, 2022 5:15 PM

^take a hint, Toots.

by Anonymousreply 511April 27, 2022 5:18 PM

Hi r507, r510. I googled your symptoms for you and here’s what I found out. Have a nice day.

I stupidly hurt my ribs - again.

Last summer I bruised my ribs by leaning over my outdoor garbage bin after I dropped my phone and yesterday I leaned awkwardly over an armrest to reach something from a bag on the floor. I don't think they're broken but I'm in quite a bit of pain.

by Anonymousreply 513April 28, 2022 3:35 AM

Hey Chin Boss, it's just a muscle spasm. Are you grinding your teeth at night? Have you been feeling extra stressed? How is your sleep? I think if you can get some decent sleep and do some jaw exercises and self massage of jawline the twitch will go away..

by Anonymousreply 514April 28, 2022 6:51 AM

[quote]Last summer I bruised my ribs by leaning over my outdoor garbage bin after I dropped my phone and yesterday I leaned awkwardly over an armrest to reach something from a bag on the floor. I don't think they're broken but I'm in quite a bit of pain.

Stop leaning over things!

by Anonymousreply 515April 28, 2022 7:16 AM

R507 It might be the booze that makes you twitch.

by Anonymousreply 516April 28, 2022 9:26 AM

Or maybe the booze will help you stop twitching.

by Anonymousreply 517April 28, 2022 10:21 AM

Yesterday afternoon, I did something to my left foot while taking out the trash and recycling. When I looked down, my foot was swollen. I took 2 Tylenol 8 hour and drank lots of water. It seems to be better today. How is possible that, at almost 60 years old, I have neither Epsom Salt nor an Ace bandage in my house??!!

by Anonymousreply 518April 28, 2022 12:20 PM

R516- The Boys AND the Booze make me twitch.

by Anonymousreply 519April 28, 2022 2:20 PM

Perhaps the booze has nothing to do with it.

by Anonymousreply 520April 28, 2022 2:44 PM

I sometimes twitch after a bender.

by Anonymousreply 521April 28, 2022 10:23 PM

There was a character on Fawlty Towers named Mr. Twitchen. The Gourmet Night episode, I think it was.

by Anonymousreply 522April 29, 2022 1:51 AM

I tried the infamous dollar store poundcake yesterday. It tasted just like a twinkie with none of that shitty filling. Meh. But at least now I know.

I had such ambitions for the day.

Oh well.

by Anonymousreply 524April 30, 2022 7:19 PM

R524 it's such a beautiful day and all I've done is stay inside being extremely lazy. Tonight, however, I party (like a responsible adult, of course).

by Anonymousreply 525April 30, 2022 7:43 PM

Party like a responsible adult? A shot of grenadine in your Metamucil™?

by Anonymousreply 526May 1, 2022 1:46 AM

FDA approved crystal meth probably.

by Anonymousreply 527May 1, 2022 3:28 AM

I learnt a new French verb today: émouer = to be moved emotionally, past tense = ému.

by Anonymousreply 528May 2, 2022 6:23 PM

Are we still on this same fking thread? I find that extremely underwhelming. Did I miss the memo about it being hibernating season for underwhelm enthusiasts?

by Anonymousreply 529May 2, 2022 6:24 PM

There are bees swarming my tulips and hyacinths. Someone must have an apiary nearby. My cat is scared of the bees. He stands at the open sliding door and whines because he is scared to go out.

by Anonymousreply 530May 2, 2022 6:27 PM

I decided I was going to waste the day away (I have some work stuff to do but it can wait until tomorrow - I am my own boss!) and ate a cannabis gummie around 10 AM. Enjoying the day hanging out with the dog and cat and watching reruns of AbFab.

by Anonymousreply 531May 2, 2022 6:51 PM

Two one-bite cinnamon rolls from Safeway have 230 calories!. I put them in the freezer for emergencies.

by Anonymousreply 532May 3, 2022 3:31 PM

R530, I unfortunately have a wonderful sun-facing deck. Every year, I am bombarded by Borer bees. I have affectionately referred to them as "Busby." I have called the HOA every time they show up. They sent someone last year and about 8 Busbys fell out dead from whatever they put in the nest. But I have another Busby this year in the same corner and another nest being built over my bedroom window. Time to call the HOA again.

All that to say, the shadow of Busby, and his friends/enemies, darting back and forth provides Cosmo with hours of entertainment.

by Anonymousreply 533May 3, 2022 7:36 PM

i saw dust and was like wtf. borer bees in the pole holding up the jasmine and chocolate vine.

by Anonymousreply 534May 3, 2022 7:39 PM

After three years of disappointment, my patience has been rewarded. My Carolina Jessamine (Yellow Jasmin) is blooming!

by Anonymousreply 535May 3, 2022 7:52 PM

Got my second booster yesterday. It’s been 6 months and cases are on the rise. My arm hurts and I’m lethargic.

by Anonymousreply 536May 7, 2022 4:22 PM

And I have a slight fever.

by Anonymousreply 537May 7, 2022 9:39 PM

Feel better.

I had the TJ's pizza with cauliflower crust. It was underwhelming.

by Anonymousreply 538May 7, 2022 10:15 PM

I had a BOGO coupon from Jersey Mike's and I used it today.

One for lunch and one for supper.

by Anonymousreply 539May 7, 2022 10:18 PM

My 75% off coupon was not valid for my uber eats order.

by Anonymousreply 540May 7, 2022 11:39 PM

I got bit by my neighbor’s dog.

by Anonymousreply 541May 13, 2022 9:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 542May 13, 2022 9:58 PM

At least he had his rabies vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 543May 14, 2022 12:02 AM

I have been so underwhelmed I haven't been able to post for a month.

by Anonymousreply 544May 14, 2022 5:40 AM

Perhaps many of us are feeling that way, R544. This thread has lasted much a lot longer than previous editions.

by Anonymousreply 545May 14, 2022 5:43 AM

I’d say the opposite, R544. I’ve been so overwhelmed by what’s going on in the world that I haven’t got anything underwhelming to write about. Except, perhaps, for the horse-drawn carriages that clip-a-clop past my apartment all day, every day. One of the only sane things left in life, it seems.

by Anonymousreply 546May 14, 2022 7:32 AM

Mint Oreos don't go well with diet root beer.

by Anonymousreply 547May 15, 2022 5:34 AM

I should resist posting when I’m in my cups.

by Anonymousreply 548May 15, 2022 6:24 AM

R546 Do you live in a Bavarian village?

by Anonymousreply 549May 15, 2022 10:47 AM

My brother sneezes so loudly, I'm surprised the roof doesn't fly off. It's so annoying.

by Anonymousreply 550May 15, 2022 4:46 PM

I think I drank too much water before my latest lab work. My sodium was low so my Dr. wants me to drink less water a day. I was drinking 64 ozs. and drank almost 1/2 gallon before my test. I'm also taking a diuretic that's in one of my meds.

by Anonymousreply 551May 16, 2022 3:08 PM

Bought Hudson jeans in my size because of the University tie-in. This is lightweight worn denim and there’s an odd bagginess around the front pockets. .

I wanted one pair of slut jeans; these look like I wrestled a blind, deaf unhoused street preacher…and had to accept the pants because I lost.

by Anonymousreply 552May 17, 2022 2:29 AM

Why would anyone want to be affiliated with Hudson University? Depravity and evil.

by Anonymousreply 553May 17, 2022 3:20 AM

I baked cookies..and now I am eating them. That is evil!

by Anonymousreply 554May 17, 2022 6:08 AM

I was interviewed by my college newspaper today. I had to remind myself “This isn’t Datalounge. Don’t say whatever crosses your mind.” The reporter sounded cute.

by Anonymousreply 555May 17, 2022 8:41 PM

[quote]I baked cookies..and now I am eating them. That is evil!

And sniffing their aroma is extremely gay, according to DL.

by Anonymousreply 556May 17, 2022 9:04 PM

Now that I have an office schedule, I miss seeing both airedales on my walk to work.

Both have the possessive “Please piss off; this our private time” attitude. Both are surprisingly fit for urban dogs.

by Anonymousreply 557May 21, 2022 4:43 PM

I went to the flea market today. Nice & sunny, a few good deals and a fun outing. Spared my stomach the food truck food though.

by Anonymousreply 558May 21, 2022 9:58 PM

I’m thinking of signing up for lawn bowling at my local park. Might be a laugh.

by Anonymousreply 559May 22, 2022 2:13 AM

Took my cat to the vet. $370 for a wellness check and rabies vaccine? SMH.

by Anonymousreply 560May 24, 2022 5:43 PM

That's outrageous for checkup and one shot R60. Should be more like $200.

by Anonymousreply 561May 24, 2022 5:59 PM

Cleaned the dishwasher trap. There was a screw in there. Likely from inside the DW? So weird. Only other contents were the remnants of a price sticker. Not bad for about a yrs worth of trap collection.

by Anonymousreply 562May 24, 2022 6:02 PM

R560 is definitely NOT underwhelming! Good Lord, why was it so much money?

Cos gets an annual check up, feline distemper shot, teeth cleaned, and claws clipped and I pay about $200. He only gets a rabies shot every couple of years since he's an indoor cat and I don't board him anymore so he's not around other cats.

by Anonymousreply 563May 24, 2022 6:13 PM

They charged $200 for bloodwork. I would have thought that’s standard for a wellness check. No?

by Anonymousreply 564May 24, 2022 6:37 PM

Interesting, R561/R564. I don't think my vet has ever done blood work on Cosmo for an annual check up.

by Anonymousreply 565May 24, 2022 7:01 PM

Sulphur and Mormon antibiotics.

The vet is going to charge 100 bucks for walking in the door and give them antibiotics.

by Anonymousreply 566May 24, 2022 7:10 PM

R560 / R564 Blood work is not standard for a checkup. If there was something concerning like weight loss, puking, litter issues, lethargy they would recommend blood work. But even then it's your option to have them do the work. Depending on age, health, history of pet you may not opt for blood work.

by Anonymousreply 567May 24, 2022 11:37 PM

And they will still start with antibiotics.

by Anonymousreply 568May 24, 2022 11:56 PM

If I had known how expensive it was I might have said no, but Nancy is on steroids for irritable bowel, so I thought we should have it.

by Anonymousreply 569May 25, 2022 4:51 AM

Is Nancy your cat?

by Anonymousreply 570May 25, 2022 3:23 PM

Of course not. She is the Speaker of the House.

by Anonymousreply 571May 25, 2022 3:27 PM

I wanted just six bananas, but all of the bunches at the store at seven or eight. So I broke off one banana from a bunch of seven and put it back on the shelf.

It’s one of those things that everybody does, but no one wants to talk about.

by Anonymousreply 572May 25, 2022 5:14 PM

I've got no problem with it. I often pick up one of those castoffs.

My Publix always seems to have bunches of six and I want seven.

by Anonymousreply 573May 25, 2022 5:16 PM

Oops, typo. The stores had seven or eight (not ‘at’).

Happy to oblige, R573!

by Anonymousreply 574May 25, 2022 5:19 PM

The guy at the formerly expensive corner store put my bananas in their own paper bag this evening. I could have sucked his dick. How thoughtful. And tall.

by Anonymousreply 575May 26, 2022 2:28 AM

I am allergic to bananas so would never break one off due to ocd, but I am sure there is a huge demand for singular bananas...maybe some shoppers buy 3 singles? Seems unlikely tho...

by Anonymousreply 576May 26, 2022 9:29 AM

I shaved my pubes, taint and asshole last night. check off one more for the month of May.

by Anonymousreply 577May 26, 2022 10:10 AM

One more what?

by Anonymousreply 578May 26, 2022 2:37 PM

R575 he sounds divine.

by Anonymousreply 579May 26, 2022 2:38 PM

I'm eating oatmeal with golden raisins.

by Anonymousreply 580May 26, 2022 3:20 PM

The nail salon dog is having his day off today .

by Anonymousreply 581May 26, 2022 8:26 PM

I’m single and only buy one or two bananas when I want them. They age like avocados, in my opinion. I usually buy one of the greenest bananas I can find and one that’s a day or two from being overly ripe. I have a great banana muffin recipe that calls for one banana. I also enjoy the occasional strawberry-banana smoothie.

by Anonymousreply 582May 27, 2022 2:47 PM

My sewer line has a “house trap” which occurs in older houses. It was clogged and there was unpleasantness, but it has been quickly resolved.

by Anonymousreply 583May 27, 2022 7:39 PM

When I bought my house five years ago, I replaced all of the lightbulbs with LEDs and I haven’t had to replace a single lightbulb since!

by Anonymousreply 584May 27, 2022 8:48 PM

The cost of my Ben&Jerry’s pint went up $2.

Once upon a time I had thee best airedale who would wait, plot out where I was at after dinner and then raid the garbage for the small container. She’d pretend to feel guilty as I wiped that icecream off mustache, eyebrows, and beard.

by Anonymousreply 585May 28, 2022 1:32 AM
