I Want to be Underwhelmed—Smell the Croci—Early Spring 2022

Night Blooming Jasmine season started Sunday night in L.A. Delicious.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 1, 2022 5:55 PM |
My “Seafoam” camellias have started blooming. Look it up to see a pic.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 1, 2022 8:46 PM |
How is it March already? The older I get, the more whelmed I am by how quickly time passes.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 2, 2022 6:40 AM |
Another month means that it's time to start thinking of taking the vehicle through the car wash again.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 2, 2022 6:45 PM |
I just let the rain take care of it.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 2, 2022 7:41 PM |
a tulip I did not plant, and was not there last year, is poking up.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 2, 2022 8:40 PM |
We don't get much rain here most of the year, R6.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 2, 2022 9:14 PM |
I am quite whelmed by Cosmo posting that they are female. All this time I had been imagining them as male. Slightly nauseous with shock and about to take a half Xanax with the requisite cup of warm milk.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 2, 2022 10:12 PM |
I thought it was getting warmer.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 2, 2022 10:15 PM |
Re: first insect of the season. I always note the first one, too. It, along with that first day when the sun against your face feels properly warm and everything is melting/sounds of melting, is the official sign that winter is over.
Where I am in Canada I haven't seen the first bug and we haven't had the melty day yet.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 2, 2022 10:22 PM |
Take it with grapefruit juice r9.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 3, 2022 12:57 AM |
Please leave, R12. How whelming. I most definitely will NOT take my Xanax with grapefruit juice.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 3, 2022 5:59 AM |
My god, can you bitches at least be interesting/ amusing while being underwhelming?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 3, 2022 10:01 AM |
Saw the first carpenter bee of Spring just around lunchtime today. It is about 3 weeks early this year.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 3, 2022 6:16 PM |
A dog (think it was a cockapoo) growled and barked at me earlier today in the street. Then, less than thirty seconds later - before I'd even got the end of the street - another cockapoo saw me, wagged its tail and jumped up on me. Don't know WTF I did to get such disparate reactions from two dogs in such a short space of time. I wasn't wearing a new scent or anything.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 3, 2022 8:39 PM |
r16 , it was a set up. Those two bitches are fucking with you.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 3, 2022 8:44 PM |
I saw a bunch of robins in my front yard. Some of my spring flowers are coming up. I can't wait for spring!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 4, 2022 12:05 PM |
I'm sorry you are whelmed by me, R9. If it's any consolation, Cosmo is male and swishes his tail like he's walking the runway on RuPaul's Drag Race.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 4, 2022 12:16 PM |
Do croci have a scent?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 4, 2022 12:24 PM |
I have a sprained ankle from falling on the ice and it hurts like fuck. I am so done with winter and looking forward to spring.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 4, 2022 1:08 PM |
Thank you, R19. The palpitations have mostly ceased and I only needed 1/4 xan with my warm milk this afternoon. Greetings to Cosmo the cat from Alice the dog.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 4, 2022 10:25 PM |
r20, they have a fresh, mildly sweet scent that is detectable when you smell a mass of croci, but, dare I say, underwhelming when you smell only one. Not unlike cherry blossoms.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 4, 2022 11:02 PM |
They ain’t no hyacinths.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 4, 2022 11:09 PM |

Our snowdrops came up today. A welcome first sign of spring
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 5, 2022 12:48 AM |
I’m glad you chimed in Cosmo @ r19. R9’s post pissed me off, but I didn’t want to whelm the thread. He already proved himself to be the biggest Mary since Phyllis Stephens with his Xanax & milk nonsense. I think most of us have known you are female & feline for quite awhile now. I mean, ‘so what, who cares?’

Crocus pistils are saffron, at least one species. So it would seem there has to be *something* there, odor-wise.

I don't care for Peeps, but the ten-pack includes a cute plush chick.

R33, buy the 10-pack, keep the cute plush chick, and throw the Peeps out back for the neighborhood feral cats.

I've never seen a "bunch" of robins in my life - usually they go out solo.

I always have Trader Joe's Wild Caught Sockeye Salmon for lunch on Wednesdays. I cook it in the oven basted in olive oil then I squeeze lemon juice on it and dip the pieces in Champagne dill mustard. Today, however I'm trying a recipe I found at the NYT. It calls for a mixture of Dijon mustard and brown sugar spread over the salmon pieces and cook for twelve minutes- which I'm doing now. I hope it turns out well. I am still going to squeeze lemon juice over the whole thing when I take it out of the oven.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 9, 2022 5:41 PM |
Sounds good, R36, but also an almost whelming amount of work for lunch.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 9, 2022 5:44 PM |
There are hawks nesting in the hollow below my yard. I am concerned that the doves in the same hollow will relocate, and I'd miss their pretty nose noises.

I should also mention that there is also an owl somewhere down there as well. Lovely bird sounds around the clock are mine, riches take many forms.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 9, 2022 5:48 PM |
I just finished the salmon. It was really good, so good that I will probably make the same again next Wednesday.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 9, 2022 6:02 PM |
Thanks for the info, R3. I need to eat more salmon. Do you buy skinless or with the skin? I like crispy skin on my salmon so a fry in a bit of oil. I love salmon with dijon mustard. I assume you are baking the salmon?
Not exactly underwhelming BUT it's snowing here in northwest NJ. In fact, it's been snowing since about 9 am. The landscaping company just came through to plow the street and courtyards. It took some time to stick to the pavement. We haven't had much plowable snow so I guess that's why they plowed. My condo assn has an annual contract for snow/ice removal and landscaping (seeding and cutting the grass.)
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 9, 2022 8:39 PM |
Sockeye salmon is the shit. So is Chinook/king salmon. A real indulgence if one has the funds, which I only very occasionally do. I don't know if others will disagree, R41, and I suppose it comes down to personal taste, but I prefer my salmon just barely cooked. I cook it in the pan skin side down (so it gets crispy) and take it out when it's still raw on the top layer. Some will think that gross but oh well that's how I like it.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 9, 2022 9:05 PM |
R41- I buy Trader Joe's frozen Wild Caught Sockeye Salmon from Alaska WITH the skin on. It's a rarity that a NYT recipe is actually good but this is one of those times.

R50- Good. It wouldn't hurt you to lose a few pounds.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 10, 2022 12:53 PM |
^Those "bugs" that fly out of flour and such are typically the kind of moths that eat sweaters. Little gold-colored ugly things, that will roost on your wall about 5 to 8 feet from the floor. I have had LOTS of experience with them before. Once they take up residence in your dwelling, they are damn hard to get rid of, and they cause big damage to carpets and wool garments. Just pointing that out...

Out of 7 avocados (I'll be making a large amount of guac, leave me alone), 2 are very slightly squishy this afternoon. The rest are all still rock hard. I deliberately bought them all rock hard yesterday so they would be ripening by Friday evening. Goddamn unpredictable vegetables whelming me!!
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 10, 2022 9:36 PM |
R62 I think there's a way to speed them up but I'm not sure.

Put the avocado in a paper bag with a banana.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 11, 2022 12:07 AM |
But I don't have any bananas, R64!
*downs xanax*
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 11, 2022 3:26 AM |
Will the bananas solve the 'ripening at different rates' problem or will they all simply ripen faster, but still at different rates?
by Anonymous | reply 66 | March 11, 2022 3:27 AM |
R64- I want to facilitate the ripening of my bananas. Would this method be effective for bananas?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 11, 2022 3:35 AM |
Just be patient, R67. Bananas generally go from green to brown in about a day and a half without your doing anything to speed them along.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 11, 2022 4:21 AM |
R68- I want them to go from yellow to covered in FRECKLES.

I love guacamole.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 11, 2022 6:39 AM |
R69 is an imposter! I am the real R67!
And me too, R70. There will be so much guac tomorrow (or Saturday, if that's what the avocados decide) that I will be weeping guac-y tears.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 11, 2022 7:23 AM |
I love guac as well... just no diced tomato, please.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | March 11, 2022 11:39 AM |
Re bananas ripening too fast: the best way to avoid this is to buy the organic ones (they usually cost 10 cents more per pound). Non-organic bananas are doused with some kind of chemical (google says ethylene) to induce them to ripen more quickly. The organic ones, obviously, are not treated with this, and so they ripen at a more leisurely pace than the so-called conventional ones. A bunch of organic bananas is typically still perfectly edible a week after you bring them home from the store.

I have been whelmed for days over this bomb cyclone they keep predicting and the inches upon inches of snow they say are coming. I first read about it in Vermont, where I hunkered down in a hotel for two nights after it began, waiting until the snowplows cleaned up the mess. THANK YOU, SNOWPLOW DRIVERS.
Then I set out for Buffalo on nice clear roads this morning and now I’m in God-alone-knows-where New York where TWO storms are predicted for the weekend. I have no chains! I can’t spend every night in a hotel! I’m in my bed in my campervan in a Wal-Mart parking lot with popcorn and everything I need in terms of food and warmth, but whelmed hardly begins to describe my overall state. I dread even looking out the curtains because what if it’s solid snow. Spring cannot possibly come soon enough!
by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 12, 2022 1:06 AM |
^I wouldn't be surprised if some pretty unsavory types haunt the Vermont Walmart parking lots. Here in the South, I wouldn't be caught dead in one after 9 p.m., considering what goes on in them even during daylight hours. Overwhelming, I know, but you're plenty old enough to know what you're in for.

Since I know you're all dying to know, 5 out of 7 avocados were in perfect condition a few hours ago. 1 was under ripe, 1 slightly (but only slightly) over. I set aside Mr. Under Ripe and made guac from the other 6. It is delicious. I am, as predicted, stuffed to the gills and there is now a large amount put away in the fridge.

I'm planning a walk this afternoon after my last Zoom call. I feel like I need some fresh air since I haven't left the house since Friday.
This may be whelming but I had a visit from a very good-looking (straight) police officer yesterday. My iPhone completely stopped responding and I was trying to do the reset (volume up and the off button on the right hand side.) Unfortunately, it activated the SOS call. I spoke with a dispatcher who said she would cancel the call. The officer said he was aware of the cancellation but he still had to check it out. I told him about my iPhone problem and said "You probably can't help with that" but he offered to take a look. He came upstairs and was able to fix my phone. When I provided my birthdate info, he told me his wife is pregnant and that is her due date.
I share this story in hopes that DL would re-write the ending to their satisfaction. :-)

Yesterday I was at Whole Foods and I bought the LAST container of Little Rae's Bakery Luck O The Irish Butter Cookies- I gobbled them all up ( my weight is up considerably this morning). R128, I buy the beef-pork-veal mixture when I make meatloaf. Because of the fat, I don't cook it in a loaf pan. I cook it in a pan that allows most of the oil to cook out. I'm not sure what you used for your meatloaf but this may be why it was runny?

I moved a nest from my garage, that has 4 tiny eggs, to the porch. I put it in the corner on top of a column where it is well shielded from the elements. On the opposite side of the porch another nest, in the same type of spot, has a mom and dad bird close by. The moved nest does not have the same parents (I thought the moved nest parents would find the moved nest as it is close to the garage..I’m a dumbass apparently). The good news is the porch parents have adopted the other nest. The bad news is I have facilitated an illegal adoption.

Also, re: food vs sex and what I think about more, from about 14 until a few years ago it was sex. Now, as a woman in my 40s, I feel oddly childlike as the interest in sex sharply wanes and the thoughts of candy and cake return as if from a dream.

Did you know it’s seagull mating season?
Birds have mating calls in spring. The most commonly recognized one is the song sparrow. Well, seagulls start calling in spring, too. All winter long seagulls sail around the sky here, completely silent. But starting in late Feb through May, you’ll hear seagulls calling, laughing, making odd noises. It’s to attract a mate. Then the young hatch ant begin making sounds themselves “testing” their voices. I always notice seagulls high in the sky (over land) waaay up so high they block the sun, slowly whirling. Their feathers are so bright white and outlined by the sun in a yellow orange halo.
If you have seagulls in your area, look up in April and watch them slowly wheeling in the sky in a sunny day.

[quote]limited edition sparkling beverage from Coca-Cola Creations. Experience a subtle cooling sensation as you enjoy the reddish Starlight space flavoured beverage, a new but familiar Coca-Cola taste.
I am slightly whelmed by that description, tbh. On the one hand it says nothing. This drink is "reddish" and "space flavoured?" "New but familiar Coca Cola taste?" What??? On the other hand, I now want to try it. So whatever they did there worked.
So does it taste like regular Coke or what? I'm annoyed by the fact that I'm curious about this.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | March 19, 2022 9:37 PM |
Well, R166? Did it taste like orange creamsicle or not? I have tried a number of things that have been reported to taste (or smell) like orange creamsicle. All except 1 failed. How disappointing. Am attaching a link to the only one that lived up to the hype. Note this is for sniffing not drinking.
Do orange creamsicles themselves still exist, btw?
by Anonymous | reply 179 | March 19, 2022 9:43 PM |
I can't describe the taste R178 but it has a hint of cinnamon spice or mint depending on the person or the bottle.
[quote]When Coke hinted at Starlight tasting like a campfire, Redditors wondered if it tastes like s'mores, with one suggesting is tastes like "Teddy Grahams and cola." Of course in true internet fashion, everybody has a different impression of the new beverage. One person tweeted that it tastes like "caramel plum and the feeling you get when you inhale really cold air," while another wrote that Starlight "tastes like Coke but has an aftertaste of cereal milk." Another Twitter user thinks the new beverage has notes of cotton candy, while one Redditor commented, "It tastes like floor." Clearly not everyone is a fan of the mysterious new drink. There have also been conflicting reports of mint flavor and cinnamon spice.

[quote]Well, [R166]? Did it taste like orange creamsicle or not?
The Polar Orange Vanilla seltzer initially tastes like a creamsicle but then there is an immediate chemical aftertaste that ruins everything.

Ha! I just found out why the annual salvia Wendy’s Wish I bought last summer had such ugly calyx and held onto it’s scanty blooms instead of dropping them, thus making me able to snap the stem and have a new, floriferous stem rise up and replace it.
Because it was not a salvia! It was Texas betony, a stachys! There was no label on it and it was sitting with other annual salvias in the garden center. So the garden center workers were also stumped into thinking it was salvia. No wonder I only saw hummingbirds zoom in & immediately zoom out. The people who wrote the description of stachys coccinea say it’s a hummingbird attractant. The birds were attracted but not impressed. They preferred butterfly bushes, salvia amistad, salvia black & blue, and salvia rocking fuschia to the wan Texas betony.

I’m partially right. It wasn’t bred in a Russian lab but it’s considered an invasive weed in North America. I translated it to MARY! thistle.
Silybum marianum has been widely introduced outside its natural range, for example into North America, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Colombia where it is considered an invasive weed. Kittenzilla is a ragdoll so he is genetically a big boy as they can be up to 20 lbs. That said, the vet says he should be more like 16, and that I should be able to feel each rib under his massive fluff. Right now I can feel only a few. So he is.a bit chub. I will cut back on the free feeding of kibble and reduce the pate as well. His buddy is an 8 lb Siamese that is perfect weight so and they eat together so I may have to do the pate separately. The Siamese resorts to kibble only when necessary. Little fusspot!

Came across a can of pumpkin puree in my pantry yesterday and decided I wanted pumpkin pie. I wasn't motivated to make a crust so I made crustless pumpkin pie. Libby has crustless pumpkin pie recipe on their site along with cooking times and temps for the crustless version. They even have it broken down by size and material of pan. That is all.

I recall reading recently that some expiration dates are really quite arbitrary, R233. Of course, I'm the type who would never dream of keeping anything that was past its use-by date. Well, except maybe for dried spices and herbs. I probably have some left over from the 20th century.

R238- I guess I’ll have to toss it out. If it expired in February 2021 I may have bought it February 2020 which would make that tomato 🍅 paste TWO years old.

by Anonymous | reply 242 | March 24, 2022 7:57 PM |
Canned goods can last for many many years. The date on the can isn't meant to indicate that it has expired like perishable goods do. It's just the "best by" date which is totally arbitrary and partially intended to move more product. In some canneries, they will wash the date off and put new ones on the cans on older stockpiles. A year-old tomato sauce is almost certainly fine.

Just tried that Coke Starlight we were discussing earlier. It's...good. Really good, even. And weird af. It tastes the way a big 80s oriental-gourmand perfume smells. There's almost a cake note to it. Also:
- trashy flavour. white trashy. this is a drink for the sundeck off the back of the mobile home. no shade, poors, I am one of you.
- the cake I mentioned is yellow cake, from a box
- carnival fairway/sweet popcorn
- the scent is more distinct and at least as interesting as the taste. I would love the backstory on this scent, actually, how the meetings went, the discussions, how it was picked etc.
- nostalgia. candy. vanilla. childhood.
- I do like it. it's uncomplicated. someone talented could probably make a decent cocktail out of this. It would be hot pink and would involve Luxardo cherries (and syrup) and something either very sour or very bitter to balance it out.
- this does taste unique to me. it doesn't remind me of any soda I've ever had before. maybe very, very vaguely of cream soda but not much
- if this does well, Coke should release a perfume to go alongside it. Dibs on that idea Coke, call me.

I go back to sleep and wake up within my head on my other arm and have to go through the same thing.
I also noticed I get really bad pa8n in my upper arm at night watching tv & have to rub Voltaren on it.
This morning it hit me like a jolt - these pains are coming from my vaccine injection sites. I had 3 COVID’s, the flu shot, a pneumonia shot & a shingles shot. The pains started just a few months ago. This never happened before. I don’t know if it’s because I got so many shots or maybe because some of my shots are given by technicians, not nurses. Pharmacy techs, techs at my Dr office. Maybe they hit a nerve or something.
Every night, two or three times a night I wake up in terrible pain on whichever arm my head was lying on.

R288 I lost 25 lbs on Jenny Craig during the shutdown. My doctor said, “it’s all going to come right back when you go off the diet. Be aware of that.”
Well, I couldn’t take the food anymore. The food isn’t bad…it’s just not enough variety. After 6 months I couldn’t keep eating the same food over & over.
The weight came back.

R289- I've lost about 32 pounds since June but I pretty much stopped losing weight in November. My body has made it very difficult for me to lose anymore weight. When I try to cut back my calories a bit more I get very hungry. It's also hard for me to maintain the weight I've lost. It's VERY hard work.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | April 3, 2022 12:51 AM |
Same here. After I lost the 25 lbs I stayed on Jenny Craig for several months & couldn't lose a lb. That’s when I went off the diet. Why keep eating the same food when it’s not leading to weight loss? I’m walking now several miles and still not losing
by Anonymous | reply 291 | April 3, 2022 1:02 AM |
How you gain weight is that your body multiplies its fat cells to store more fat in. Once you have them, they never go away. You can empty them out but maintaining that is very difficult in the long run. It's why so many diets fail - the only way to get rid of extra fat cells is lipo or some other physical removal. Sucks but it's true. These days I just focus on staying flexible and doing lots of walking. I'm fatter than I used to be but that is okay.

This is a vapid/vacuous body that has hit every weight between 130 and 210 pounds at least twice as an adult.
Be patient with plateaus. You’ve performed an organic removal and your body has to recover from the loss.
Also, mood plays a part in stickiness. Right now, I’d like to go back to 160, but I’m in the middle of one of my “let’s flee the nazis” adventures and I’m hyper /worried at 140.

I've lost 35 pounds by not eating after 2 pm, since January 23. I'm planning on losing a LOT more this way; the weight loss did slow down after the first 6 weeks and I had to get a little tougher about what I was (not) eating. And I am OK with the idea of not eating dinner anymore, as a permanent thing, except maybe on special occasions. I'm pretty used to it now. I kind of enjoy being hungry for a good part of each day. I've had no alcohol, no dessert, nothing with sugar in it, in 9 weeks and am eating probably as healthy a diet as I have in decades.
by Anonymous | reply 294 | April 3, 2022 12:09 PM |
^I decided to stop eating dinner because I had gone on a pretty severe diet on the Monday after New Years weekend, Jan 3. After 3 weeks of no alcohol and no junk food or dessert, with at least an hour of daily exercise, I had lost precisely 3 pounds in 3 weeks. It was so depressing that I decided to start just not eating supper and then see what happened. It has worked great for me.

Speaking of weight loss, I bought some pork skins for snacking at the suggestion of a low carb fanatic friend. I made sure to get a brand with no MSG as he suggested. I have a 2015 Honda fit that makes a grinding noise on a cold start. It used to occur only when the temperature was around freezing but it's happening more frequently and this morning the engine light went on. Took it to Pep Boys to check the code but when I pulled into the garage I didn't notice the engine light had turned off and the code had cleared.
The grinding noise is a known issue with Honda issuing a service bulletin 16-088: "The variable valve timing control (VTC) actuator is defective" but they don't have a recall and my car is out of warranty. There's a remote chance it's covered under the states emissions warranty since it could impact gas mileage.
Debating whether to spend the $1000 - $2000 to replace VTC. The higher cost is because the timing chain may need to be replaced as well.

Ampersand means “and,” but that doesn’t mean it can always be substituted for “and.” It’s used in titles, firm names and movie credits, but not generally in sentences as a replacement for “and.”
Interesting tidbit—in movie credits you will often see writing credits that use both & and “and.”
“Written by Joe & Mick” means they worked as a team. “Written by Joe and Mick” means they worked separately. “Written by Joe & Mick and Paul & Topper” indicates a troubled process.

Anyway, my first time trying Dave's Killer Bread.

[quote]Anyway, my first time trying Dave's Killer Bread.
I LOVE Dave's Killer Bread, r343! Earlier today I took some out of the freezer - yes, I know! I don't drain pasta, though - and toasted it. I ate it with a thin layer of pesto, topped with slivers of roasted peppers. Delicious!
DKB has a completely whelming backstory, though
by Anonymous | reply 346 | April 6, 2022 6:51 AM |
Dave's story is so whelming, I think it would prevent me from enjoying his bread.
by Anonymous | reply 347 | April 6, 2022 7:02 AM |
Prepare to be further whelmed. DKB is made by former drug addicts and criminals.
More importantly, one slice of DKB contains 5 grams of sugar, which comes out to over 1 teaspoon of sugar - which is why I keep it in the freezer. If I had it every day, I'd type fat.
It freezes really well, as long as it is toasted.

R333 You are incorrect.
The AP Stylebook has just a few guidelines for how and when to properly use the ampersand in your writing. They are listed as follows.
Use the ampersand when it is part of a company’s formal name or composition title. For example,
House & Garden Procter and Gamble B&O Railroad
AP Style holds that the ampersand should not otherwise be used in place of “and.” For example,
Correct: My favorite activities are reading and swimming. Wrong: My favorite activities are reading & swimming.

Yesterday, I walked to the Italian bakery near my house, as part of my daily walk, and bought their last loaf of Panella bread. It's supposed to be better for you than store bought because it has no preservatives in it. The girl behind the counter said it should last 3 or 4 days in the fridge so I'll be freezing most of it. I will make toad in the hole (whatever Rose Casterini makes in Moon Struck) this weekend. It's one of my favorite breakfasts.

[quote]I look quite attractive in the mirror but like a troll in photos. It's not fair.
I don't want to whelm you, but photos generally give you a better idea of what you actually look like. When we look at ourselves in a mirror, we unconsciously make little changes in our facial expressions to improve our appearance:. a half-smile here, some flirty eye movements there, all things that are harder to control when someone takes a picture. Everyone takes a bad picture occasionally, of course, but mirrors are generally less truthful than photography.
by Anonymous | reply 413 | April 14, 2022 5:23 PM |
There's also the theory that we're used to seeing the mirror (flipped image) of our faces. In photos, we see what other people see. If your face has an asymmetry, e.g., left eyebrow is 2 mm higher than the right eyebrow. We see that and get used to that in the mirror. In photos, though, that right eyebrow now looks 4 mm off b/c the image is flipped. I hope that made sense.

Tonight, for some unfathomable reason, I remembered an old comic strip from when I was a kid, Henry. It was about a lumpen bald boy who always wore tight black shorts, even in winter. I mentioned it to my friend, who said he remembered Henry.
‘What was the point of it?’ I asked him.
He thought, and said, ‘I don’t know that there was a point.’
I think we were both relieved to drop the subject.

I stupidly hurt my ribs - again.
Last summer I bruised my ribs by leaning over my outdoor garbage bin after I dropped my phone and yesterday I leaned awkwardly over an armrest to reach something from a bag on the floor. I don't think they're broken but I'm in quite a bit of pain.

Hey Chin Boss, it's just a muscle spasm. Are you grinding your teeth at night? Have you been feeling extra stressed? How is your sleep? I think if you can get some decent sleep and do some jaw exercises and self massage of jawline the twitch will go away..

R530, I unfortunately have a wonderful sun-facing deck. Every year, I am bombarded by Borer bees. I have affectionately referred to them as "Busby." I have called the HOA every time they show up. They sent someone last year and about 8 Busbys fell out dead from whatever they put in the nest. But I have another Busby this year in the same corner and another nest being built over my bedroom window. Time to call the HOA again.
All that to say, the shadow of Busby, and his friends/enemies, darting back and forth provides Cosmo with hours of entertainment.

R560 / R564 Blood work is not standard for a checkup. If there was something concerning like weight loss, puking, litter issues, lethargy they would recommend blood work. But even then it's your option to have them do the work. Depending on age, health, history of pet you may not opt for blood work.
