Many gay men are not interested in children or even getting married. We also deserve the choice to do those things if we wish. Many straight people are rejecting marriage and children because it's not worth it if you don't have the financial independence. As a former aspiring actor, I hardly consider acting to be a "craft." That is a joke. I know lots of actors and acting teachers love to talk about it that way. Maybe for some actors, it legitimately is a craft, like in the case of Meryl Streep or Daniel Day Lewis. You can tell they take their characters seriously. But for most of Leo's roles, he more or less just plays himself. Anyway, I don't consider acting to be on the same level of artistry as writing or music composition or directing, or even singing or musical instruments. Actors are mainly just filters for the writer and director.

Leo also has the financial means of having kids and not having to worry about financial pressure taking care of them. Most straight people who have that do not. In a way, he's kind of squandering his privilege. He is traveling all over the world. Who is he sharing that experience with?

If you're a gay couple that has the financial means to pay for a surrogate and have kids and career and nice things, well, that is the EPITOME of success for gay people. Those are the gay guys I see who have the happy lives.

My older half-sister died at the age of 56 due to end stage liver disease complications (she had Hepatitis C). She had had a stressful life. She had two kids. one with schizophrenia, but another who finished college, got married and had kids, and my sister really loved her grandkids. Perhaps she didn't love her husband that much, and she had a lot of stress dealing with health issues as well as having a son with schizophrenia, but she at least had some bright spots in her life that made her life meaningful.

A lot of times, when older people are at the end of their lives, a common regret they express is that they wish they had focused less time on their career and more time with loved ones.

I have a male downstairs tenant in his 70s who has been married three times. When he was young, he got one girl pregnant and the baby was put up for adoption. He did express one time being kind of regretful that he didn't have kids when he was younger.

But at the end of the day, it's not children themselves that make life meaningful, it's GOOD RELATIONSHIPS (whether with your children or a happy marriage) that makes life meaningful. BAD RELATIONSHIPS (as well as children you're ashamed of) can certainly make life more unbearable, I acknowledge that.
