I must say I also do not understand our intelligence agencies. They're sworn to protect this nation against all enemies foreign and domestic, so wouldn't that include a President who's clearly using his position to undermine the security of the nation? When people say they should leak everything they know about Trump to the public, I go even further: I think they should march right into the White House and place the motherfucker under arrest. Seriously. You mean these people are smart enough to know how to deal with the worst threats imaginable but not smart enough to know that Donald Trump is an enemy of the United States under the command of our greatest enemy? And they've known it for THREE YEARS and yet have sat back and done NOTHING while the nation has gone through hell with this maniac, ignoring his crimes, his dismantling of our institutions, his blatant acts of treason, and pretending as if everything is perfectly well and normal. I mean what the fuck are they even there for?
Sorry for the rant but it just makes no sense.

Lindsey is trying to render Bill Barr seeping new powers per the Internet.
[quote]EFF’s Elliot Harmon warns that if the bill is passed and becomes law, the U.S. attorney “could unilaterally dictate how online platforms and services must operate.” According to Harmon, the bill “grants sweeping powers” to the executive branch of the federal government and “opens the door for the government to require new measures to screen users’ speech.”

Look, you dumb fucks, the House has officially asked for the returns be released to them. The House has the LEGAL RIGHT to do so! Then that swamp creature Mnuchin says no. He has not one legal say about it. By law, he must hand it over to the House representatives. ARREST THAT FUCKER! Now!! Why is he allowed to break the law and WTF did the Supremes take away the same right from the SDNY!?
There's a shit ton of shit going on. People should not have to pay any tax to this sham illegal government.

I had just been wondering how Bernie was climbing in the polls so fast. guess now we know. Two theories, the want Bernie to win the primary because Trump can beat him, they want Bernie to win because they know if he becomes President they can control him like they do Trump. The Russians are far from stupid and must have something on Bernie.

No doubt Bernie as a US Senator with a penchant for the Soviet Union would be on the Russian’s radar as a possible asset. Geez they’ve had a pin in Trump since he was married to Ivanka (her father was Czech intelligence) in the early 80s.
They play the long game and this time they struck gold.

Or does he just not care ? The media is even worse...giving him complete cover..."Bernie is innocent because he didnt know". BULLSHIT. The facts say otherwise. 1. She was a staunch Reagan and George H. W. Bush supporter, and that was beyond her young adult years.
2. Her supporters can deny this all they want. She did indicate on admissions and hiring documents, and espoused that her race/ethnicity is Native American. That is a direct abuse of Affirmative Action to gain an advantage.

I'm glad the Media is raising the alarm and it's important. But they treat this as if Trump is invincible and it's a done deal. The Intel people have been withholding info from Trump ever since he got elected. They know who they're dealing with. But there are levels to Intelligence information and when we have important information about ballot security, etc. it has to be reported to Congress. And once you do that Trump will know, because of punkfuckers like Denin Nunes...(WEHT the info about his trips to Vegas??? We need a portrait profile of Devin Nunes who his friends are who he meets with, dines with, travels with, where he travels, and his financials. Expense accounts, etc. Rip the covers off this piece of shit. ) But I digress. We are actually getting leaked information. This is good. But the Media needs to contextualize it better. Trump may think that once he gets re-elected everything will go his way. He's wrong. If we have that catastrophic result, he will have not a moment's peace. What worries me is whther or not the media, who have so far been our allies, will turn into Trump shills.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 22, 2020 3:55 PM |
It isn't "meddling"; it isn't "interference"; it isn't "hacking."
What Russia has been doing---from at least 2016 and possibly from decades ago by the purposeful luring, blackmailing, inveigling, and literal owning of Trump---is normally termed:
ATTACKING.
Russia ATTACKED the United States by overthrowing our election process and thus installing a traitor who, because of both sociopathic admiration for and abject fear of Putin, is doing everything possible to destroy our intelligence and national security agencies; our international alliances and treaties; our economy other than of mega-corporations; our environment; our health and welfare; and, indeed, our grasp of and access to truth and reality.
Trump is a man of the shadows, of deals done in the dark of night with like-minded men of lawlessness. He and his surrogates Ivanka, Jared, and Rudy (others, like Manafort and Page, are obviously unavailable) scour destroyed and corrupted countries for contracts with their criminal oligarchies, like sharks that cannot stop swimming.
This is how the mega-rich, or, in Trump's case, the mega-indebted, operate. This is who runs a great portion of the world.
And we produce television shows and print photos lauding their lifestyles. Shows depicting children in landfills picking garbage, children in slavery, children in brothels or cages---media moguls don't produce those programs.
And so here we are, with a grifting and quite possibly demented Russian Mob Guy at the top of our government.
Trump wants nothing more, NOTHING MORE, than to be America's Putin.
We need a Democratic candidate to forthrightly declare that we are at WAR.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 22, 2020 4:45 PM |
So why on earth aren’t the debates discussing what candidates will do about Russia? Saying “I hate Russia“ isn’t cutting it. Bernie sounds like he has no idea what to do and thinks saying “stop” will cover it. And he votes against sanctions against Russia.
Does anyone have an actual plan?

It has been evident that Russian-based trolls & operatives have been functioning on behalf of Trump and Sanders for many months. Despite appearances, Bernie Sanders isn't some naive little old gnome plucked off the compost heap last week. He is a multi-term, sitting U.S. senator and knows fully the protocol for handling/disclosing classified intel (and it ain't to sit on the info for "about a month").
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 22, 2020 5:56 PM |
unfortunately it's too late. I don't see Sanders not winning the nomination. I'll vote for him over Trump but I just think the repub media (with help from mainstream media) will ensure Trump gets reelected.
Sanders hasn't been the one getting negative coverage until now. Remember it started with Warren and then the fake "scandal" about Biden. The mainstream media hadn't focused on all the controversial stuff in Sanders' past. They always stop at "is he a socialist?" There's so much more that they'll suddenly focus on once he's the Democratic nominee.
If the vote between Biden, Klobuchar and Buttigieg could be consolidated into 1 candidate that would defeat Sanders but no one's dropping out so he keeps winning with low numbers.
Hopefully at the debate next week they'll actually ask about Russia, Barr and the DOJ. Those should have been asked this week but for whatever reason they decided to not to ask
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 22, 2020 8:00 PM |

Dont you find it extremely odd and coincidental that when they were run out of tow, one turned up on team Trump and the other turned up on team Sanders ? Devine only left Sanders campaign a few months ago, but he had been with him for years. Remember when the Sanders campaign "accidently" hacked the Clinton campaign ? IT WAS NO ACCIDENT. It was a Devine op that was discovered AFTER THE FACT and Sanders apologized. Why does no one call out Sanders for his refusal to take responsibility for anything....just like Trump. Sanders supporters are just as cult like as Trumps.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 22, 2020 9:16 PM |
I'm just afraid that the repub media will successfully use the news of Putin interfering in the primary on Sanders' behalf to try and discredit the fact that Putin wants Trump to win the entire election again and is interfering on his behalf again. They already refer to the Mueller/Russia investigations and the Ukraine scandal/impeachment as "hoaxes". You just know if Sanders gets the Democratic nom they'll focus on any of his connections to Russia.
Remember most people don't follow the news hardcore like we do. A lot of people are casual viewers. That's why the repub party has been allowed to get away with lying for so many years.

Someone needs to fall on their sword. If the moderates would drop out and throw their support to just one of them, Bernie would lose. Biden, Pete and Warren need to put country over their egos. Sit in a room and decide who has the best chance against Bernie and then Trump.
This will never happen. I know that. But I can dream. Bernie as the nominee will result in us not only losing the Presidential race but losing the House. I wish his supporters could see now isn't the time for some fantasy fucking revolution. We have to get Trump out or the United States is over. That is all that matters. It wasn't "classified." Bernie is just a candidate, and he isn't on any Senate committee that would permit him getting classified briefings. What the Intel agencies do, and the state department is give a brief sanitized synopsis of the status of urgent issues of the day. No one gets classified briefings during a primary. That is complete bullshit.
The only one who gets a SEMI Classified briefing is the nominee, and the guy who gets the A+ Classified Presidential briefing is the President ELect once the results have been certified. So cut the shit, Bernie Bros and use your few functioning brain cells. Bernie has known for a fucking month or more that he was getting help from Russia. He kept it a secret.
He was afraid it would affect the outcome of the primaries in Iowa and New Hampshire. He gave voice to those fears when he attacked the Washington Post and said the media was trying to sabotage him just before the NV Caucuses. So he clearly believed the exposure would harm him, and he attacks the media and aside from his bullshit chastisement of Putin, he has done nothing to indicate he has taken measures to protect, nor has he reported anything to the FBI as he ought to do. Bernie's ego will not allow him to let go of the adulation he thinks he is getting. All this popularity is finally validation of his rantings for the past 40 years.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | February 22, 2020 11:23 PM |
I'm a bit torn about early voting, especially in primaries. A whole lot of Nevadans have already voted. They voted before the debate. I bet a lot of them voted for Bloomberg who wouldn't have done so after seeing his performance. I also think if the only voting was during the actual caucus, and not early, Warren would get a lot more votes based on her performance over the last week. Bernie would have suffered some from the Russia stuff. Klobuchar would have lost some support due to her debate performance.
I like that early voting allows more people to vote but at some point, if you vote early, you don't have all the information you would have had on the actual election day.
Bloomberg and Klobuchar are going to do better than they should and Warren is going to do worse than she should in Nevada all based on early voting. It's going to lend a false narrative to the plotline that Bernie is an awesome winner, Bloomberg is viable, Warren is sinking, and Klobuchar is still in this. None of those things is true but that's what the vote is gong to show based on early voting. At least in Nevada it was ranked voting which might help make it a little more accurate but I just don't know. The media goes with the simple storyline and they won't go into any of this. I just hope South Carolina and all the Super Tuesday states are paying attention.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | February 22, 2020 11:49 PM |
NBC is projecting Sanders as the winner in Nevada. I cant wait for these damn caucuses to be over. It never ceases to amaze me how collectively stupid, we, Americans, truly are. We never learn and have the attention span of a gnat.

How are we supposed to take anything else from you seriously??
by Anonymous | reply 63 | February 22, 2020 11:57 PM |
Eh, blow it out your ass, R63. I forgot Bloomberg wasn't in until Super Tuesday because he was in the debate. Pull Bloomberg out of the Nevada specific ideas and see if you can figure out how to extrapolate nationally. Early voting is a problem because the media focuses on election day and their focus shifts as that day gets closer. More stories and in-depth investigation take place in the couple of weeks before the specified election day. Voters end up voting without all the information when they vote weeks before the actual day. Hell, some of them will have voted for people who have dropped out. It skews the results. Unless the media shifts their focus to the beginning of early voting, this will continue through all the states.
Imagine if Bloomberg hadn't done the Nevada debate or any debate before Super Tuesday. He could have very well won a lot of delegates based solely on his commercials and very little vetting and no actual performance that wasn't the best commercial money can buy. Thankfully, the bloom is off that rose now and he will soon start plummeting nationally. He's already lost 30 points in favorability and three points in polling.

The Hill: Buttigieg sounds alarm after Sanders wins Nevada
"I believe the only way to truly deliver any of the progressive changes we care about is to be a nominee who actually gives a damn about the effect you are having, from the top of the ticket, on those crucial, front-line House and Senate Democrats running to win, who we need to win, to make sure our agenda is more than just words on a page," Buttigieg said.
"Sen. Sanders, on the other hand, is ignoring, dismissing, or even attacking the very Democrats we absolutely must send to Capitol Hill in order to keep Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, in order to support judges who respect privacy and democracy, and in order to send Mitch McConnell into retirement. Let's listen to what those voices are telling us," he said.

fortunately the Democrats control the House so a "retroactive impeachment" on Obama would be impossible but if the repubs win it back it wouldn't shock me if they try that. It's clear they don't care what the public thinks so an angry reaction wouldn't bother them

Democrats can impeach Trump again and again. He has already abused power several times post-aquiittal. Do the same with Barr. Hearings don't have to be long and extensive. Subpoena everything appropriate. More will go to the courts; Republicans will delay and resist every step; thus add obstruction charges as another article of impeachment.

Right now the Trumpists within the Administration, are playing down Russian involvement with Bernie. "Intelligence officials". ...And anyone who doesn't will be fired. And the mainstream media is starting to pivot to their false equivalencies and "both sides" bullshit. I predicted this would happen and we need to take to Twitter and facebook and other opportunities and raise hell. Send e-mails, and make phone calls. Do it on the local level too. The affiliates need to know we are not going to put up with bull shit. Post responses to print media bullshit as well.
Right now with less that 3% of all delegates heard from, the media is talking about how "inevitable"Bernie is. That is complete bullshit. Their talking about how he is going to remake the Democratic Party the same way Trump remade the Republican Party conveniently ignoring the fact that it was Right Wing Extremists not Puppet Trump who have been dismantling the GOP for decades. Democrats have been pushed to the Left before. They always bounce back.
Listen, when we literally cut the power grid at the troll factories in Moscow, in 2018, we stopped Russia from doing much damage on Election Day, most of Bernie's hand picked Congressional Candidates and most Republican Extremists failed. The Democrats won big. So keep that in mind and stop paying attention to thebullshit. We know certain truths. Trump is Evil. The Republicans are Evil right now. Russia is manipulating our politics. So focus on local elections and stop listening to the noise.

NYT: ‘America Loves India,’ Trump Declares at Rally With Modi
*
“America loves India. America respects India,” Mr. Trump said. “And America will always be faithful and loyal friends to the Indian people.”
The “Namaste Trump” rally, a daylong affair featuring popular singers, dancers and pounding music, took place under a blazing sun in the city’s Motera Stadium, which India calls the largest of its kind in the world. It was an unabashed homage to Mr. Trump, whose name and image appeared in dozens of banners and billboards throughout the stadium.
Mr. Trump looked out with satisfaction at the grand display, and said it had made a lasting impression on him.
”We will always remember this remarkable hospitality. We will remember it forever,” Mr. Trump said to loud cheers, as his wife, Melania, sat nearby. “From this day onward, India will always hold a special place in our hearts.”
But even as he name-checked famous cricket players and Bollywood stars, Mr. Trump betrayed unfamiliarity with the country — and even his immediate location — when he stumbled over several pronunciations, including those of Ahmedabad itself, as well as Gujarat, the state it anchors and Mr. Modi’s political home base.
And although Mr. Trump said with satisfaction that 125,000 people had turned out to see him, more than one third of the crowd appeared to leave before the end of his nearly 30-minute remarks, and another third was gone by the time Mr. Modi spoke after him.

Fat ass Pompeo coordinated with Giuliani on Ukraine, too.
[quote]“Pls have Mr. G bring the documents,” reads the March 27, 2019, email from a State Department official to someone who worked for “Mr. G.,” better known as former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a central figure in the Ukraine pressure campaign that culminated in the impeachment of President Trump.
[quote]“S is happy to meet with him tomorrow for 10 minutes,” went an email, apparently between State Department officials, the next day (both sender and recipient are redacted, though the title “Office Manager to the Secretary of State” is visible in the sender’s signature. “S” was Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is suspected by Democrats to have had a more central role in that Ukrainian campaign than has yet been publicly acknowledged. (One of Pompeo’s top deputies, Lisa Kenna, also calls him “S” in scheduling emails.)
[quote]The small but significant trove of documents released on Friday by the State Department to American Oversight make clear that Giuliani — who was acting as Trump’s personal attorney — pressed American diplomats to consider the information he’d unearthed in Kyiv about corruption. Though the documents released amount to fewer than a dozen pages of emails, they nevertheless show aides to Pompeo unambiguously receptive to Giuliani’s overtures.

Andy Khawaja: ‘The whistleblower’
Unbelievable article.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | February 24, 2020 8:58 PM |
Khawaja claims the Saudis and the Emiratis illegally paid tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars to the Trump campaign in 2016. He says that to keep it secret, they disguised the money as small donations from Americans, using stolen identities and ‘virtual credit cards’ or gift cards — donations of less than $200 do not have to be reported to the Federal Election Commission and made public. He claims the Saudis and the Emiratis were able to make thousands of such small donations at a time using the latest payment processing technology. Khawaja knows this, he says, because he sold the know-how to their middleman, George Nader, who will be the central character in this story.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | February 24, 2020 8:58 PM |
Khawaja says that in September 2016, Nader told him why he needed the payment engine. Abu Dhabi wanted help making ‘online micropayments’ in bulk to the Trump campaign and the RNC. He describes Nader asking for help to make it work: ‘How can we generate electronic payouts to the online donation websites? I would like you to show us how we would be able to do that.’
by Anonymous | reply 147 | February 24, 2020 8:59 PM |
Khawaja says he asked: ‘But you really think he’s going to win? I mean, this is crazy.’ And he says that Nader replied: ‘His Highness is not stupid, he will never bet on a losing horse.’ The money would come from the Saudis. The Emiratis would run the operation, using data bought from the Chinese. Khawaja says that Nader told him: ‘We have all the data already, we have 10 million US consumers’ data. And we have endless money.’ The Russians were ‘on board’ too: ‘He said, “Yes, I have met with Putin already and we have a green light from him. Because Putin is on the same page with us. He wants Hillary to lose.”’
by Anonymous | reply 148 | February 24, 2020 8:59 PM |
He acts out the crucial moment with Nader: ‘“Wallahi, I swear to God, Andy, His Highness will control every America election. His Highness will control America. We will control America.”’
by Anonymous | reply 149 | February 24, 2020 9:01 PM |
Khawaja describes pulling away from Nader, his ‘head spinning’, and telling him he’d have nothing to do with his scheme. At this point, he says, Nader had paid him almost $5 million of the $10 million agreed for the blueprints of his payment engine. At this point, too, it seemed to Khawaja that this was Nader’s money: Nader, he thought, was hoping to please his boss, MbZ.
The plot to buy the election was still taking shape, Khawaja says, when he walked away: Nader would have to develop the payment engine without his help. He heard nothing more until January 2017, after Trump had won and was preparing to take office. Khawaja says he gave Nader ‘a couple of spare tickets’ to events at the Inauguration. He describes Nader sitting at his table, smiling and saying, ‘You see, I told you, I told you Trump was going to win.’
Khawaja remembers Nader telling him that Trump’s first foreign trip would be to Riyadh, to ‘celebrate’ with MbS and MbZ: ‘They’re the ones that got him elected.’ There was more — Saudi Arabia and the UAE would announce a blockade of their rival, Qatar, and Trump would support it.
Trump did, in fact, make his first foreign trip to Riyadh, in May 2017. And he did support the blockade of Qatar, which began in June 2017. Khawaja says Nader told him during their talk at the Inauguration that they had put ‘a few hundred million’ into the effort to elect Trump. At the fish restaurant, I ask Khawaja if he thinks the payments are continuing today. ‘One hundred percent.’

We have learned this guy Solomon was on the Fox payroll and the Russian payroll . He was busted. Who else?Who, at the EDITORIAL level, the people who decide on policy and assignments, and who decide HOW something is covered.
Because I can already see the media pivoting. I can see them trying their damndest to make a 79 yr old lunatic who just had a heart attack, who attacks the media, and sees conspiracies around every corner, Who's followers are like a damned cult of vicious, aggressive bullies, and who has cartoon figures like Nina Turner shilling for him, is being dubbed the best we have.
This is the guy? Fuck that shit. Pete Amy and Elizabeth can run circles around him. WTF was Elizabeth doing with her hands-off strategy? Bernie needs to be vetted. Not just by other candidates, but by the media. This isn't the time for false equivalencies or treating his lies and misrepresentations as a matter of opinion. Learn from 2016. Do better.
He is so arrogant, so dismissive. We need to push the media. Get out here and start tweeting to every single fucker who calls themselves a journalist and start raising hell. I get Agita and I'm seeing the media manipulating this just like they did in 2016. And yes, there is definitely some behind the scenes manipulation going on with some of the suits. I'm living in the real world. Bernie supporters are living in a bubble. Just like Trump supporters. And the reporters don't have to be on the take. All they have to do is what they did in 2016. Remember? All those candidates running in the Republican primary and all the lies and misinformation and the news media never vetted, never challenged assertions and they kept it up through the general election while engaging in 600 straight days of negative press for Hillary and her fucking e-mails. I hear twice now that Bernie supporters are like Trump supporters, but here is the thing: Trump won. Bernie is winning. Everyone wants to dance around that, but that is the thing. He is actually winning. Can we not dick around about this and pretend this is not the actual fact. Can we not?
And then I hear that the media is going so soft on Bernie (which is actually complete bullshit, MSNBC is calling him a nazi). So for those of us not living in a fantasy where the media is oh so soft on the socialist, can we ask: What do you do when Bernie wins the nomination? Many represent areas where large swaths consider themselves conservatives. The Dems are the party who have actually passed gun control, higher taxes on the rich multiple times and passed the first meaningful legislation on health care in a generation. 90% of the shit passed over the last 40 years would NOT have passed if the Dems were in sole control. So FUCK OFF!
The media has been and is always soft on Bernie. You, my friend, are going to be in for it when the GOP has him all alone and unleash on him. They have tons and tons of unsavory oppo research on him. He has never been vetted properly. Just wait.
If he is our nominee, I will vote for him enthusiastically but I will hold his feet to the fire. If he pulls some bullshit to get impeached, I will be happily for it so we get whoever his VP is.

No, Bernie isn't actually winning. In every primary contest so far he is under performing what he did in 2016. And while he might be polling at 27% that means 73% of those polled do not support him. And god help anyone who thinks he speaks with "Authority." Jesus wept! Larry David speaks with authority? Look. Bernie has been fighting the world, ranting and arguing and promoting his grievances for decades. He is Practiced. He is Agile. He speaks with Conviction because he has been saying basically the same fucking thing for 50 years. Now he has a bigger megaphone. He has heard it all before and he comes armed. And these fucking reporters with few exceptions are not prepared for that.

by Anonymous | reply 181 | February 25, 2020 3:33 AM |
There is nothing inherently wrong with corporations. They employ people. They create wealth. There is nothing inherently evil about labor unions. THey protect workers. What is wrong is the imbalance. The undue influence. The corruption, the greed, the oppression. No country in the world has a pure capitalist or a pure socialist economy. All economies are mixed economies.
If we could count on corporations to do the right thing for their workers, for the environment, be good corporate citizens who recognize their responsibilities, then we wouldn't have to regulate them. But without regulation they foul our environment, and debase our communities and embody a negative influence.
So they can bitch about regulations but it's their own damned fault they have to be regulated. The people on their boards and in their gilded offices, put wealth and profit above everything else. They do it at the expense of their workers and the larger communities. They believe they don't have to pay their fair share to make our communities better.
I'm supporting Elizabeth. And even though I know Blomberg is at the opposite end from her I'd support him. I'd support Joe in a heartbeat because he's a decent man. A good man. I'd support Amy, or Pete. But Bernie is a bridge too far. I will vote up and down the ticket, but dear god please not BErnie!

corporations have turned into cunts. we can all dick around and pretend these are the 1950s but it's all cunts. we need to all stop pretending we live in a world that died 50 years ago. we need to stop and start dealing with the real new world problems.

The messaging should be the govt is the only true counter balance to out of control corporate greed.
Bernie comes with a simple message and he would win hands down if he didn't go so far left. I want progressive ideas but I also know this country is too brain dead and half asleep to understand anything other than incrementalism which would start growing exponentially if our side remembered to show up at the midterms once we get a Dem Pres. Obamacare was hated then a few short years later we are ready for a public option. We'd already be there if Obama voters kept voting in the midterms, esp '10. But so many were pissed they didn't go for a public option they took their toys and went home. That happens all the fucking time!

I think most people are non ideological. Flinging labels around like Socialist, means not much to them unless they're over 70. Most people just want government to work. They want government to not make life harder. They want government that exists to support efforts to make their lives better. We should be able to have clean drinking water. It's ridiculous that our kids have to go to school worrying about getting shot. It's ridiculous that our public education system is in shambles, our air is unfit to breathe and flooding is destroying our crops, and affecting food supplies. Scary that crumbling roads and bridges, and poor sewage and drainage systems are the new normal. That our power grids are obsolete and rural communities don't have access to the internet in 2020. It is ridiculous that we subsist on a $7-8 dollars an hour minimum wage with no worker protections and there is no affordable housing.

WaPo: Economists and financial experts have been telling us for years how great things are for U.S. workers and consumers. The stuff we buy is dirt cheap, and living standards are higher than ever. Wages are keeping pace with inflation. Inequality probably isn’t as bad as you’ve been led to believe. The stock market is booming!
So why, then, do so many of us feel like we can barely make ends meet? The answer (and IMO a big reason for Trump's rise in 2016 and Bernie's popularity today):

The Hill: Trump administration to cut funds from health programs to pay for coronavirus response
*
The Trump administration will pay for the coronavirus response in part by cutting funds from other health programs, including one that pays for heating and cooling assistance for the poor.
Of the $136 million the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) plans to transfer from other health programs to bolster the coronavirus response, $37 million will come from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, according to a notice sent to Congress Tuesday night by the agency and obtained by The Hill.
HHS will make several other transfers, including $63 million from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and $4.9 million from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, which funds mental health and substance abuse treatment and prevention.
The Aging and Disability Services Programs will lose $4.2 million.
HHS does not need Congressional approval to transfer the funds.

Pelosi hits back at Trump over coronavirus response: "Not a time for name-calling or playing politics"
*
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called for $8.5 billion in emergency funding Wednesday, while the White House outlined a $2.5 billion plan Monday that includes $1.25 billion in new funds. Mr. Trump, however, told reporters at the White House on Wednesday his administration would spend "whatever's appropriate" to adequately fight the coronavirus outbreak.
Any emergency funding package approved by Congress must include entirely new money, Pelosi said, and include provisions that prohibit the president from using the funds for anything other than the coronavirus and fighting infectious diseases. She also emphasized the need to ensure any vaccine developed to treat the deadly virus is affordable and widely available, a dig at Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, who testified Wednesday that while "we would want to ensure that we'd work to make it affordable, but we can't control that price because we need the private sector to invest."
"Really?" Pelosi said. "This would be a vaccine that is developed with taxpayer dollars to again prevent. And we think that should be available to everyone, not dependent on big pharma. I guess yesterday when the secretary made that ill-advised statement he was wearing his pharma hat, which he wore before he came here."

FCI your friend better tell us if there has been any discussion, speculation, joking, or suggestions that might include martial law, state of emergency and/or suspending the election? Because something said as a joke or in a dismissive way today can become policy or strategy, or reality tomorrow.
I had no idea until I read the article in my Washington Post today, that ot was John Bolton immediately got rid of all the staffers who were supposed to be handling this. Now Trump is responsible, but he and Bolton shared the same viewpoint. People forget that when they thought Bolton might save the day & be the hero. Ron Klain the "Ebola Czar for Obama said they always knew there'd be a pandemic. Not this virus at this time, but they knew in general that it was coming. There were two cases of Ebola here and they were contained.

I wonder if Trump is going to continue his rallies and how many people will show up. He has claimed in the past that he's a germaphobe, so it has to really piss him off that he may not be able to continue his rallies. They mean a lot to him. IMO, I can think of nothing better to do. He keeps telling people everything is fine, so he should act like it. Go to your rallies, Donnie. Make sure allll your supporters go so you can ramble and hang our for four hours together.

The White House official charged with leading the U.S. response to deadly pandemics left nearly two years ago as his global health security team was disbanded. Federal funding for preventing and mitigating the spread of infectious disease has been repeatedly threatened since President Trump’s election. Despite the mounting threat of a coronavirus outbreak in the United States, Trump said he has no regrets about those actions and that expertise and resources can be quickly ramped up to meet the current needs.

This morning on Stephanie Ruhle's MSNBC show, some talking head was discussing the coronavirus and calling for three things:
"D for Drugs, T for Testing and F for the Freedom for health officials to speak to the public. Those three things. D.T.F."
And he kept saying that over and over, very proud of his handy little acronym.
They cut to a split screen with Stephanie, and she said, "People out there watching this, please do NOT look up DTF on the internet. It’s not what he just said."

Appeals Court: Former WH Counsel Don McGahn does not have to testify.
[quote]Former White House counsel Donald McGahn can defy a congressional subpoena, a federal appeals court in Washington ruled Friday in a decision siding with President Trump, who had blocked top advisers from testifying as part of the impeachment proceedings.
[quote]The 2-1 ruling by a three-judge panel, if it stands, means Trump’s former lawyer cannot be compelled to appear on Capitol Hill, and comes after Democrats lost their bid to call additional witnesses during Trump’s Senate trial.
[Quote]The Justice Department had argued that the Constitution categorically bars the courts from stepping into this kind of dispute between the politically elected legislative and executive branches, and in a 37-page opinion, U.S. Circuit Judge Thomas B. Griffith wrote, “We agree and dismiss this case.”

Politico: Dems tread cautiously on Trump investigations after impeachment
*
The change in posture is an acknowledgment, House Democrats say, that in a world where Senate Republicans are bear-hugging Trump, and the courts are declining to operate at the speed of the congressional calendar, there are very few options that a single chamber of Congress can pursue short of withholding funds for agencies like the Justice Department — particularly when impeachment is no longer in their election-year arsenal.
"There is nothing that Donald Trump can do that would cause [Senate Republicans] to convict him of high crimes and misdemeanors," said Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), who serves on the House Judiciary Committee. "So that has caused everybody in the House to take a deep breath and figure out what our next steps are."
"That leaves us legislative and political answers," Raskin added.

Joe or Bernie- I will vote for either with enthusiasm. Joe might not seem exciting but when you think about him as a person with actual human qualities, he is very exciting over what we have. We have a profoundly decent man vs, well, a sociopath. I'm excited to vote FOR the profoundly decent man and AGAINST the sociopath.
Hopefully he picks an exciting VP (I like Stacy A but why is she pushed so much? Is she qualified?).
I fear if Bernie gets the nom and is wiped out, along with the House and Senate, progressive policies will be set back decades.

A large number of those asked said NO. That they were ALL IN for Burnie and if he doesn't get the nom they'd write him in.

Who the hell is that Judge Royce C. Lamberth, r443???
*
Clinton has argued that she has already answered questions about this and should not have to do so again -- the matter did not result in any charges for the then-presidential candidate in 2016 after a high-profile investigation -- but D.C. District Court Judge Royce C. Lamberth said in his ruling that her past responses left much to be desired.
"As extensive as the existing record is, it does not sufficiently explain Secretary Clinton’s state of mind when she decided it would be an acceptable practice to set up and use a private server to conduct State Department business," Lamberth said.
The judge went on to recognize that while Clinton responded to written questions in a separate case, "those responses were either incomplete, unhelpful, or cursory at best. Simply put her responses left many more questions than answers.” Lamberth said that using written questions this time “will only muddle any understanding of Secretary Clinton’s state of mind and fail to capture the full picture, thus delaying the final disposition of this case even further.”

Trump's pathological slurs don't even bear one second's analysis. He's had power for over three years, but only 'undid that decision a few days ago.' Rather a late response to a life-threatening virus which has been evident for many months.

Jared Kushner rakes in $25 to 50 million thanks to tax cuts he and Ivanka Trump championed
After selling his stake in a company that invested in Opportunity Zones that offered the tax breaks he pushed, President Trump’s son-in-law and top adviser, Jared Kushner, cashed in to the tune of between $25 million to $50 million, according to a report from the Associated Press. The move has sparked criticism from some who say Kushner used his position in the White House for profit.
“A filing at the Office of Government Ethics released Monday shows that Kushner received permission to defer capital gains taxes on the sale of his stake in Cadre, a digital platform for smaller investors in commercial properties,” the AP reports. “Kushner’s holding in the private Cadre was worth between $25 million and $50 million, according to a financial disclosure report he filed with federal ethics officials last year.”
As the AP points out, Kushner and his wife, Ivanka Trump, pushed for the Opportunity Zone tax breaks to be included in President Trump’s 2017 tax overhaul.

So let's take off the gloves. Not only is it justified politically, it is justified because those fuckers violated the fucking law.

Brian Stelter: Trump 2020 has filed a libel lawsuit against CNN, according to Fox, which was given the news in advance. Similar suits against NYT and WaPo are a Trump re-election strategy. Experts say the suits are unlikely to prevail in the courts. No comment from CNN.

I thought Republicans were against frivolous lawsuits?!
by Anonymous | reply 531 | March 6, 2020 8:13 PM |
I'd like to see the lawsuits go ahead, just for the opportunity for discovery. Trump would have to cooperate if he wants the case to succeed.

They are a campaign ploy....it allows him to use them as a talking point during the election as long as they are open in the courts...regardless of their legal merit. Thats what conmen do.

Its the same with the Biden situation. Trump will parrot over and over that the Bidens are corrupt and under investigation...thanks to his sycophants in Congress. Think Benghazi and Emails....

I am very surprised to see the judge who is calling out Barr this week is a BUSH appointee!! I guess there are a few real repubs here and there who do care about facts
It will be hilarious if Trump and Fox "News" start calling him a "rino" and bashing his career/character

In case there’s anyone who doesn’t get that Dump is a sociopath, he proved it again today while visiting Tennessee in the aftermath of the tornadoes that killed dozens of people. No emotion, no empathy, no heart.
“There was one case though, I heard, a young man, an 8-year-old boy was ripped out, flown to a certain area, and dropped off at the street, two or three blocks away. And they found him walking. And he said, ‘I just flew in the air.’ And he was walking down the street on his own. And how did his parents do?
Uh, they died, along with his little sister. His whole family is gone.

Good lord, we are so fucked —
[quote]President Donald Trump attempted to reassure Americans about the competence of the response to the coronavirus outbreak. Trump traveled to the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, where he spoke to reporters.
[quote]The president claimed doctors were surprised he was so informed about the virus, Trump said, despite the fact he has been repeatedly fact-checked for being misinformed about COVID-19. Trump argued he has “a natural ability” to understand the science that allows him knowledge without education.

when are the House Democrats going to go after Jared, Ivanka and Don Jr?
stop playing nice and fair. Hunter Biden did get a job based only on being Joe Biden's son. That is corrupt but that's where the facts end. Hunter was not involved in Ukraine gaining influence with the US or vice versa, Hunter didn't do anything illegal.
The House needs to expose all the shit Jared, Ivanka and Don Jr have been and are doing. NOW THAT is corruption.
FCI can you ask if there are plans for this? If not there need to be. Make Trump's kids as toxic as they're trying with Hunter

why hasn't the House investigated the Trump admin's handling of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico? Trump goes around bragging about it like he did a great job. Meanwhile thousands of people died. We know he's lying
by Anonymous | reply 553 | March 7, 2020 2:53 AM |
I can't wait for the destruction of Mark Meadows' reputation. Yes people who follow the news closely know he's another lying racist propagandizing piece of shit but being the new acting chief of staff will put him firmly in the spotlight for all to see. By May he's going to hate taking on this job. It'll be hilarious when Trump blames him for something and throws him to the wolves like he's done with Mulvaney and the others
by Anonymous | reply 554 | March 7, 2020 2:54 AM |
It's fascinating how people keep accepting jobs in this Administration as though they will finally be the won NOT thrown to the wolves.

So anyone going into a job in the Trump Administration is already planning their exit strategy, right? I mean, you know the bitch will turn on you in a couple of months. What is the appeal? Just another little box on the resume before you move on to something else? Even knowing that being affiliated with the most ridiculous, incompetent, stupid president in history will actually taint you. What is the deal? Why work for the grifty old bitch knowing it's all very temporary and you will be degraded and humiliated on your way out the door.
