Death always pushes people to marriage. It’s some quirk in the human psyche. I had a cousin who passed from leukaemia at 26. He married his girlfriend on his deathbed and so did almost every other young male in the hospice. A man in his 50s who was with his partner for almost 20 years also married her in the hospice hours before he passed. We got to know some of the other families and 2 young women rushed up the altar so that their dying relatives could be there. A middle aged couple tied the knot at their daughter’s death bed. It’s the last thing I would do and I think it’s a bad idea. It was also surreal. When I visited I would find out who had passed since my last visit and who had married. If humans didn’t need 9 months to gestate, hospices would be churning out babies my the dozen.

For the record my cousin was barely cold when a battle royale broke out between my uncle and his wife and the new bride who was only 21 and wasn’t mature enough to deal with being a widow. When she found out my cousin had frozen his sperm and my uncle expected her to have the baby she ran off to Thailand. My cousin left the girl in the shit by marrying her and caused her a lot of headaches for nothing in the end.

Plus, the population is much bigger now - so who knows if we could afford to send everyone to Queens College for $500. Our healthcare system is far more complex now than when Joy was a kid, though. Obama did the best he could to bring more access but it's a nightmare issue that will take another administration to further improve. Again, a huge shame Hillary is not in office.

In Europe the same procedures, tests and treatments cost much less. Drugs cost less. Doctors and nurses earn less. Medical school is free. It can be done but is anyone willing to cut doctor’s and nurse’s pay and stand up to big pharma? No, pretty much political career suicide.

Meghan is *constantly* critical of campaign promises saying 'you better deliver them' and grilling Elizabeth Warren on how she actually plans to do so. Even Joy is always talking about 'pie in the sky' campaign promises from Bernie. Yet "i'm going to cure cancer" didn't knock up any red flags? Jesus.

On today's show Meghan pointed out that Rep. Swalwell was absent for a House hearing on refunding health care payments for 911 first responders because he was out "running for president." Swalwell was already on record for voting for funding the payments. Several Republicans were absent from the hearing , but Megs only called out that one guy. And he was not out running for president, he was down the street at the Justice Department, since the AG says that members of Swalwell's committee have to go there to review Trump's files.
