Remember to W&W this thread - the investigation aftermath is here to stay - no need to change the title. Trump is going to be dealing with this for a long time! YAY!

by Anonymousreply 6April 24, 2019 5:59 PM

Unfollow Trump on Twitter, it’ll drive him nuts to keep losing followers. Follow Obama and Hillary if you aren’t already.

R4 The aftermath of the Mueller Investigation will be haunting the Trumpies for years or until they are all locked up.

by Anonymousreply 8April 24, 2019 7:37 PM

Perfect thread title considering Dumps fit over subpoenas today! Thanks, OP!!!

by Anonymousreply 9April 24, 2019 7:54 PM

I think subpeonas are a great strategy. Let them lie and obfuscate on the record.

Thanks, OP, for another good title and keeping this going. Like Hillary said, "the IC report is only the beginning...."

by Anonymousreply 10April 24, 2019 8:05 PM

Gotta love the loser at R4 trying to convince everyone that this is all over.

Not quite, sweetie.

by Anonymousreply 11April 24, 2019 8:15 PM

Subpeonas every day - lord knows there is enough to investigate on this pathetic criminal in chief and his band of sycophants

by Anonymousreply 12April 24, 2019 8:24 PM

Joe Lockhart, former press secretary to Obama, suggests not impeaching Trump. The Senate will not convict Trump; thus, Trump will run around to rally after rally claiming he's been found innocent of all charges by Congress. He's doing that now due to Barr's spin and declarations.

Still vigorously investigate, though. Expose the lack of cooperation from the Trump camp, and let revelation after revelation become public or confirmed. Drip, drip, drip,.......then act.

by Anonymousreply 14April 24, 2019 8:34 PM

I agree on no impeachment. But continue the investigation however that should not appear to be the dems primary focus. Follow Nancy. She’s old but she’s right.

by Anonymousreply 15April 24, 2019 8:38 PM

The democrats could start impeachment proceedings and drag them out long enough to not finish them before the elections. As far as it looks now, there is no chance in hell the senate will convict Trump. Besides, even if the senate votes to convict, Pence will pardon him.

If they don't start impeachment, Trump can spin this as 'The democrats are to afraid to impeach because they know I am innocent'.

by Anonymousreply 16April 24, 2019 8:41 PM

*too afraid

by Anonymousreply 17April 24, 2019 8:42 PM

Sorry, but I think the Democratic party needs to be more cut-throat, like they actually care and believe that the US is at a serious risk of falling apart. All this polite "please show up and give me the documents I ask for" and the hemming and hawing about what to do if the Trump associates don't do as told is infuriating. The conservatives cry foul and being victimized anyway. The conservatives take a dump on the constitution and protocol, but demand that the members of the democratic party play by the book? Fuck that. Nancy should put bullets in McTurtle's knee caps as a warning that she does mean business this time. Play for the fucking optics, god dammit!

by Anonymousreply 18April 24, 2019 8:49 PM

I'm sick and tired of hearing the news media talk about the Mueller report. Why not talk about Trump's disastrous tariff policies, how the Republicans ripped off the middle class this year with taxes, and the imminent recession?

We need real news. Enough speculation already.

Russiagate failed

by Anonymousreply 19April 24, 2019 9:03 PM

Someone made the point yesterday, that Nancy is smart and may want people to get used to the Idea of impeachment. She probably knows that Trump will start going crazy when the subpoenas keep coming and hang himself. At that point, it will be easy to impeach. Even if they don't get a conviction his crimes will look really bad. I don't think it will hurt the election process. It will also show how corrupt the Republicans really are. Nothing will change his cult but anybody sane will think twice about re-electing him. Republicans may lose the Senate. When Watergate happened, Nixon had a big following, but his support was down to 23% by the time he left office.

by Anonymousreply 20April 24, 2019 9:10 PM

Don't forget Nancy knows how to cut a bitch. Without them even knowing it. She wants these investigations to take the air out of Trump 2020. The close we get to the election the more pathetic and guilty he will look. And the repugs will look just as complicit. She will be offering voters a very clear choice when people start paying more attention to this stuff. And yes, I believe the shit gibbon needs to be thrown out now, but if the Senate doesn't convict he WILL run all over the world yelling about he is now the most innocent president ever in the history of innocent presidents,

by Anonymousreply 21April 24, 2019 9:17 PM

At this point in time we need action. We know their game plan. Defy, ignore, and delay. They have no intention of complying with any requests from Congress. Congress has some weapons at its disposal. Congress can withhold funding.Congress can deny requests from the offending parties. Congress can cite them for contempt and fine them. The most extreme action would be to send federal marshals to arrest and put them in jail for contempt.

by Anonymousreply 22April 24, 2019 9:28 PM

R21, He may run around yelling about his innocence but who will believe him. The Republicans will look pretty bad to most of the world too.

by Anonymousreply 23April 24, 2019 9:47 PM

Deutsch Bank has turned over Trump's financial records to the NY AG. Which is good....but is there a way to know if those records have been tampered with internally to make it seem like Trump wasn't guilty of anything?

by Anonymousreply 28April 24, 2019 10:17 PM

"Deutsch Bank turned over "some" of the records. What CNN said earlier.

by Anonymousreply 29April 24, 2019 10:25 PM

But are they really Trump's records? Or fake records that the bank churned out using an eraser?

by Anonymousreply 31April 24, 2019 10:31 PM

R28, tampering would be very hard to do. There’s never a single copy of documents like that— the bank would have to chase down and synchronize every physical and electronic file it had, and then hope that conflicting copies didn’t turn up in other law firm or corporate files.

by Anonymousreply 32April 24, 2019 10:32 PM

[quote]Still vigorously investigate, though. Expose the lack of cooperation from the Trump camp, and let revelation after revelation become public or confirmed. Drip, drip, drip,.......then act.

I agree this is the smarter strategy. Death by a thousand cuts.

However, the Dems should frame the narrative, and be as aggressive and cutthroat as the Rethugs.

by Anonymousreply 33April 24, 2019 10:38 PM

Most people on their Twitter page use a pic of just themselves, or with spouse/partner, with bfs or gfs, their kid(s), their pets, or meaningful inanimate objects.

Graham has used Kavanaugh with him as a pic since last summer. Kavanaugh is married with two young kids.

Kavanaugh got his permanent dream job. He doesn't need to be photographed with Lindsey anymore.

by Anonymousreply 34April 24, 2019 10:48 PM

Trump is going to try and frame a narrative regardless of what the Democrats do. Right now he's proclaiming he was totally exonerated by the Mueller report. If Democrats do no move for impeachment and let everything play out in hearings, more of the public will believe him. There are A LOT of people who only read the headlines. They need for it to be played out on tv to let it sink in that yes, Trump did collude and yes he did obstruct justice. Unfortunately a lot of people don't have appreciation for nuance and think everything is black or white. I don't think the Democrats should impeach him just yet but definitely by the fall.

I think the repubs will look terrible if they vote not to remove Trump, rather than making Democrats look bad for impeaching him

Now that some of his financial records are in the hands of the NY AG, that will make his withholding of taxes even more suspicious. I'm sure we'll be getting some reports on the bank records soon.

by Anonymousreply 35April 24, 2019 10:58 PM

R35, the “totally exonerated” train left the station last week. He’s gone back to tweeting paranoia and rage.

by Anonymousreply 36April 24, 2019 11:05 PM

R19 = Russian troll

by Anonymousreply 37April 24, 2019 11:07 PM

CNN, MSNBC, WP, NYT, etc. are not going to let the theatrics of Trump's shenanigans go. They want the ratings, and that this saga lasts as long as possible.

by Anonymousreply 38April 24, 2019 11:07 PM

R36 but for most of the people who only casually follow news or just read the headlines, they aren't paying attention to Trump's constant twitter mood changes. That's why I can't wait for the hearings to start. It will look damning if McGahn says under oath to the House that Trump told him to lie and that Trump wanted him to have Mueller fired.

The public also wants to hear from Mueller as well.

by Anonymousreply 39April 24, 2019 11:13 PM

I've mentioned this before here but I think it bears repeating: Rachel Maddow was born in 1973. Her mother was nursing her WHILE WATCHING THE WATERGATE HEARINGS.

Quite literally breastfed on this stuff.

What r18 said. Relentless press coverage of The Huckabeast admitting she lied, public hearings with Mueller, put Cohen back on the stand, while non stop visiting of red states and continuous campaigning on Fux News. Hammer hammer hammer away at him on all fronts and just when he’s about to explode, THEN impeach Barr, and arrest Dump Jr and Grasshopper Daughter. He wants to do mob tactics, then fine, he’ll get mob tactics. They should continue this pressure until 2020, while campaigning at the same time. Never let up.

by Anonymousreply 42April 24, 2019 11:30 PM

Exactly, R42. It's no longer prudent to 'cooperate' or compromise with these bastards. Our government is a rolling circus of corruption and we need to take it back from them.

The time for fence sitting is over. Just take at look at that scared little shithead, Sue Collins. She's so frightened that her deplorable base is about to abandon her that she cannot see the forest for the trees. "A bad light?" bitch, that man comes from the darkest pits of hell! They have lost their way when even the most moderate of their ilk is pissing their pants while bending the knee. I have a particularly visceral reaction to the broad so much so that the SS would come visit me if I ever articulated what I would like to do to her. All cowards deserve the same.

They've proven who they are. Sweep them out in 2020 and hammer away at them until then.

by Anonymousreply 46April 24, 2019 11:54 PM

Im pissed off that Barr received a waiver that allows him to oversee some of the other investigations...like the one looking at the Inaugural....I bet its the case with Elliot Broidy.....AND NOT ONE DEMOCRAT HAS SAID ANYTHING. by Anonymousreply 48April 25, 2019 12:03 AM

Why isn't the automatic response to people ignoring subpoenas from Congress to immediately find them in contempt and have them arrested? Why are they "contemplating" finding them in contempt? It just enables them.

by Anonymousreply 49April 25, 2019 12:09 AM

R50, while it hasn't been done in practice for about 80 years, Congress is allowed to send their Sergeant at Arms to arrest the person. I think that might be just the strong play the Dems need to do right now.

The other option is to open an impeachment investigation. That turns these investigations into official criminal proceedings and gives the House more powers. It also takes away Trump's pardon ability. This needs to happen.

by Anonymousreply 52April 25, 2019 12:32 AM

CNN puts on these loud, right-wing panelists to spew nonsense. Anderson Cooper just had one on his show, lambasting HRC in a very vile way. Anderson didn't argue with him or shut him off. Stop trying to be Fox lite.

by Anonymousreply 53April 25, 2019 12:37 AM

by Anonymousreply 54April 25, 2019 12:40 AM

by Anonymousreply 55April 25, 2019 12:41 AM

R52 Yeah, the Dem House need to get it together and make the tough choice before it's too late. They are not just dealing with one corruption mad man, but literally a "vast ring-wing conspiracy". Sound familiar. Can't believe we are back to the same mess after 20 years, but the bad guys have the WH this time.

by Anonymousreply 56April 25, 2019 12:43 AM

R27, not a troll.

But when will it end?

This investigation is now worthless without indictment or impeachment of the sitting president. The general public is over this saga. Only a niche audience cares

Time for new news

No, it's not, R57, but do keep fucking that chicken.

by Anonymousreply 58April 25, 2019 12:52 AM

Nancy is acting like a lawyer. You ask somebody to do something and they say no. You ask them to do something else and they say no. You ask them to do something else and they say no. Then you go to the judge and say you can’t get any cooperation and the judge decides they’re in contempt.

But you have to ask first, and they have to say no first. That’s your proof they’re not cooperating and you’re the good guy.

The judge in this case is the American people.

In order for an arrest, the House has to send it to the Senate and they issue the arrest warrant. Do you honestly think Mitch McConnell or Lindsey Graham of the Judiciary Committee will let that happen ?

by Anonymousreply 67April 25, 2019 2:03 AM

No they don't, R67. Either the House or the Senate, on their own, can find someone in contempt and have them arrested. The last time it was done was the Repugs arresting someone for not turning over documents. I'd say not showing up to testify is an even worse offense.

The Dems need to do this and show they are not fucking around.

I'm surprised that no one who has been subpoenaed hasn't volunteered to be Trump's "John Dean". Dean got tons of camera time in front of the public and he ended up being one of the heroes of Watergate. These days, the new John Dean would end up on the cover of TIME.

Better to be John Dean than risk getting arrested for contempt.

by Anonymousreply 69April 25, 2019 2:28 AM

R67 - Not exactly. Bottom line, the House can act on their own.... They do not need the Senate.

“The full House OR Senate can approve a contempt citation by a MAJORITY vote, and then must hand the matter to the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, “whose duty it shall be to bring the matter before the grand jury for its action,” according to the law.”

Q: What is the process for holding someone in contempt of Congress?

A: The procedure can start in either the House or the Senate. The two chambers do not work together on contempt citations. It only takes one chamber to refer a person to be prosecuted for contempt. A contempt citation can start with a subcommittee, a full committee or in the full House or Senate.

If it starts at the committee level and a person refuses to comply with a committee subpoena, the committee has to vote to move a criminal contempt citation forward. It takes a majority vote for the citation to move to the full House or Senate.

Q: What happens next?

A: Once the full House or Senate has a contempt citation, it must be debated by the full chamber like any other resolution. It is subject to the same filibuster and procedural rules as any other House or Senate resolution. It takes a majority vote to be approved.

Once approved, the House speaker or the Senate president pro tem then turns the matter over to the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, "whose duty it shall be to bring the matter before the grand jury for its action," according to the law.

by Anonymousreply 70April 25, 2019 2:47 AM

Well peer pressure is a bitch. R69, I was hoping Don McGahn would be the new "John Dean." But even if he did agree to testify, he's not a very nice person. He worked hand in glove with McConnell and was"vetting" candidates from the list of the Federalist Society candidates for judicial nominations, including the Supremes. He helped make Gorsuch and Kavanaugh happen. And I think his father or uncle or someone had ties to Trump years ago. But McGahn has demonstrated he is not going to risk his legal career for Trump. He gave a lot of dirt to the Feds to keep himself legal after being told by Trump to lie. But he seems too close to the Senate gang. I have to believe that in many of these cases people are afraid to do the right thing because the Republican power establishment will blacklist them, ostracize them..

by Anonymousreply 71April 25, 2019 2:50 AM

They need to get rid of McConnell because he is the true head of the corrupt Republican Party, not Trump, if he is allowed to stay in the Senate he will keep doing damage long after the orange peel is gone.

The media has got to go at the hypocrisy in the GOP especially those who voted to impeach Clinton. Go at them hard and don't let up until WE get a satisfactory answer. That would be- "Ok, we're huge, fucking hypocrites and we do not mean a damn thing we say."

by Anonymousreply 74April 25, 2019 3:10 AM

I am so fucking mad as hell that no one in the media nor anyone interviewed has the balls to say outright the reason the GOP are all in for Trump.. The only explanation is that, the majority are as compromised and "beholden" to the Russians as Trump is....

#2. WTF does no one have the balls to just say that Trump knows the Russians helped him get elected and he wants and desperately needs their help in 2020. He is aware that he was not legitimately elected. He's beyond shook just thinking that his financial records and taxes will show why and that he has been repaying Russian help by laundering money, And of course the Russians have that nasty sick sex tape. IMO, Trump has far worse skeletons in his sexual deviancy closet than pee pee prostitutes.

I have read that the country will be sickened and shocked when DJT is revealed for what he really is...

I have two questions about the Mueller report: 1) Why didn't Mueller look at Trump's finances? I think once we see his taxes and finances, we're going to see a strong flow of money from Russian into Trump's accounts. Wouldn't that be a key indicator of compromise? I think it would have been first placed I looked. 2) We don't see much data related to spies or foreign intelligence. Was that information all parsed off to other divisions. Much of the data that Mueller used seems to have come from interviews with witnesses. I would have thought there would have been intercepted phone conversations, etc. Seems he took a long time to dig up stuff that was pretty much in the public record. Something doesn't seem right here. What about the server communicating with Russian in Trump Tower basement? Cohen was supposed to be in Prague? Foreign intelligence had him there (as in sighting) and there are phone record of his phone pinging in nearby towers. Were they completely wrong?

THis was mentioned on TV a few days ago, but we forget that there was also a counter intelligence investigation going on with Trump as the focus, and there is not only no report on that, it is still going on. Mueller's brief was the RUssian involvement in the 2016 election and "related matters" and you better believe Rod Rosenstein made sure the scope was narrow. But at least he didn't block Mueller from handing over various investigations to other offices in other districts. By last count I think there are still at least 12 separate investigations going on. And there are sealed indictments filed with the court that Barr cannot reach for.

I think withholding salaries might be the House's best move. I think Barr could tell the US attorney of DC not to allow the contempt of court charge?

and if all these subpoenas end up ignored, the House just needs to initiate impeachment of Trump. Obviously the Senate wouldn't remove Barr if the House decided to impeach him so not sure what good that would do. Both Trump and Barr need to be removed but I don't know how impeaching both of them would play out with the public.

by Anonymousreply 139April 25, 2019 6:48 PM

Not just withholding salaries, but also refusing requests for funding. And the Congress can call for audits of government programs. They can utilize whistleblowers and leak information to the press. If they'd just get aggressive and decide this is total war they could inflict harm and I think they should. I think the public would welcome a more aggressive push against people who ignore the law. The Republicans don't even see this as Trump ignoring a co-equal branch of government. Their power is being usurped and they sit there acting life rubber stamps.

by Anonymousreply 140April 25, 2019 7:04 PM

I think the biggest problem is the media. Perception really matters. For years, because most facts are inconvenient to the conservative side, repubs were whining that the mainstream media is "biased" against them. Since the creation of Fox "News", they have kept this claim up in an attempt to delegitimize the mainstream media and acting like Fox/other right-wing media is the "real" truth and "tells it like it is".

The problem is the mainstream media actually is not that biased. They therefore do criticize Democratic politicians when they have their own scandals and failures/mistakes.

So for example with the Hillary Clinton email thing, she was getting criticized by both mainstream and right-wing media. On the other hand, Trump was only getting criticized by the mainstream media (except for briefly when some on Fox called out his Access Hollywood tape). That made it SEEM LIKE to enough moderate voters that Hillary's email situation was bigger and worse than Trump. and all his bs.

We need the mainstream media to not do the "both sides" shit if the Democrats do start to be more aggressive but unfortunately they will likely do just that. If more of the public can see on the news that the repubs are acting out of order by ignoring subpoenas and deadlines, public support will soar even more on the Democrats' side.

Did anyone see the report and can you fill me in? Thanks

The Trump junta, Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell, and their Congressional cohorts are despicable.

by Anonymousreply 157April 25, 2019 8:55 PM

r154 It appears that some Russian guy, with a name Rachel confessed she could not pronounce, sent a message to Cohen that he, Russki, intercepted Kompromat video (my words) and that he took care of the issue. It verified that there were tapes from the time Trump was in Moscow for the Miss Universe Pageant. It predates the Steele File.

Now, personally, I do not believe in the existence of the whores peeing on the bed Obama slept in. That makes for nice political theater. I believe the pee tape story is typical Russian misdirection. I am inclined, in the Epstein mode, that the Russian kompromat involves under-aged girls Trump was fucking in all his swinish glory as the producer of the Miss Universe Pageant.

To me THIS is MUCH more believable from a kompromat point of view.

And the Russians are famous for taking videos of old men's fat asses fucking.

by Anonymousreply 159April 25, 2019 9:06 PM

Here is my prediction: As the subpoenas stack up and Trump is crapping his pants multiple times per day, someone (or more than just one someone) is going to meet with a fatal "accident". Shit is getting too real and the heat is slowly being turned up to boiling-thanks to Ms. Pelosi. Nancy is smart and she is relentless. She's the iron fist in the velvet glove. Trump should be afraid-very afraid. And Nancy has already made her opinion of Barr plain-she doesn't trust that fat pig. Fatal "accidents, suicides, etc.. I won't be surprised or shocked at anything.

BTW, wonder how that fish face Jared feels about his best friend , MSB, and him ordering the decapitation of a young Saudi who was all set to come to the US for college. Just typing that makes me sick at my stomach. Fuck all of the soulless Trump clan. May they all burn in hell here on earth. Sorry I'm getting emotional but I have slowly been going over the edge ever since this cretin was placed into the WH. But I'm not going to stop fighting the orange menace.

by Anonymousreply 202April 26, 2019 3:47 AM

Bernie has little appeal outside far left circles. He does not have wide spread appeal, especially to moderate voters. His key is getting non-voters to vote. Don't get me wrong, if he is our nominee, he has my full support.

I am glad Nicolle said she was voting for any Dem. I figured she would because she has said there are only two real choices who have a chance to win and she could never vote for him. Isn't this going to be her fourth Dem Pres candidate she has voted for? She voted Obama, Obama, Clinton and now as-yet-to-be-named-Dem.

by Anonymousreply 203April 26, 2019 3:52 AM

Biden, Sanders and Warren probably have the most appeal to white working class Democrats and moderates/independents. It will be interesting to see which of them comes out on top. Warren has talked about a bunch of her policy ideas that would help that group of people so I wonder what the other 2 will come up with. I think Warren's main drawback though is that she is a scholarly woman and we know that turns off a lot of insecure men and women who don't understand big syllable words.

by Anonymousreply 208April 26, 2019 4:47 AM

Doom for whom?

by Anonymousreply 209April 26, 2019 6:15 AM

It’s early days yet. No guarantee Biden or anybody else will get the nom as yet.

What’s notable about this is not what Biden is but what people hope him to be. A moderate, middle of the road, inoffensive white guy that appeals to blue collar and working class voters, disillusioned poor whites and has a broader appeal that includes minorities, but probably doesn’t make them the star of the show.

He may not be that, but that’s what people are looking for, which is very different from what candidates claim people want. All these younger people think the farther left they go, the more popular they will be. But before Biden came in, this idealized stereotype of what he stood for is what has polled at the top from the beginning.

It seems to me like candidates are mis-reading the room, and imposing what they think voters should want, as opposed to what characteristics poll at the top. They better fix that or we’re going to lose.

I think that we are facing the most crucial election year that my memory can recall. The goal here is to WIN. And we have huge obstacles (CHEATING, LYING, CHEATING, LYING, CHEATING, STEALING, LYING, THIEVING Republicans - who will use whatever cheating, low-down, bastardly ways to win and have done so since at least 2000 and likely since 1980). It sometimes seems insurmountable, but it isn't. We just need a landslide to overthrow their grubby, cheating, lying ways. They can't rig a landslide election (at least not while we still have some semblance of a democracy anyway). Whatever that takes is what I want. I really do not know what that looks like just yet.

by Anonymousreply 213April 26, 2019 7:11 AM

R210 - I think that the real issue here at the end of the day is who will actually take the time to get out and vote (shocking how few do). This has been such a problem for youth since the 1980's. Gen Xers (I am one) had to be coaxed by Madonna and other global superstars to go to the polls and actually have a voice. Millenials have shown themselves to be even more of a problem when it comes to actually voting. African Americans showed up somewhat for Obama, but have not shown much in the way of motivation otherwise. If the "real" America would get off their lazy ass and vote - we really would not have much of an issue (vote tampering or not - and we KNOW that they tamper). This angers me and keeps me up at night. I have good friends who were too lazy to vote in 2016. They bitch and moan now and I want to back-hand them. We have to motivate citizens to get off their asses and have a voice when it comes to the lifestyle that they take for granted.

by Anonymousreply 219April 26, 2019 7:24 AM

I am not bashing Joe Biden, but what is his appeal and the demographic he's supposed to draw in that will beat Trump for sure? Are there still "moderate" Republicans who'd vote for a moderate Democratic nominee over Trump?

There's got to be more strategy involved in the campaign ticket where big communities are motivated for "their guy" whether he's, or she's, campaigning as president or VP.

by Anonymousreply 220April 26, 2019 8:59 AM

Dems are kind of dense They already know they got the independent voters to swing their way in 2018. It's not the demographic that is the problem. It's the strategy of defending their candidate that they need to work on. There was no reason for Hillary to lose except the Dems were not defending her with conviction. They just shrugged at the media bias and GOP/Russian dirty tricks that smear their candidate and suppress turnout. If they don't have a solution for this problem, it won't go well for them no matter who they choose as the nominee.

by Anonymousreply 221April 26, 2019 9:14 AM

It is the underlying misogyny that has to be avoided and I hate to say it, Dems need an all male ticket to neutralize Trump and Pence co.

by Anonymousreply 222April 26, 2019 9:26 AM

Tim Ryan is the type of personality that can rip into Trump. Touchy-feely speak, pushing open borders and total free tuitition, and making absurd reparations promises, will not beat Trump-Pence.

Ryan doesn't get intimidated. He's a nuts and bolts politician from Ohio. He'd floor Trump in a debate, macho style. It takes an ass to handle an asshole.

Pete Buttigieg has the confidence also. Biden can too if he avoids the gaffes

by Anonymousreply 223April 26, 2019 10:58 AM

Tim Ryan is anti Nancy Pelosi so I'm Always going to side eye him. Elizabeth warren has been fantastic,I love that she has actual plans.

No matter what happens I will vote #bluenomatterwho

by Anonymousreply 224April 26, 2019 11:10 AM

An Analysis shows that in 2018, younger voters did show up, and they made a huge difference. So IMO the two constituencies we need to keep up the energy are younger voters and POC. If Biden is the nominee, he needs to get someone on that ticket who can be President at a moment's notice, but who will also attract the top two Democratic constituencies: POC and younger voters. So I think Biden and Warren or Biden and Harris are winning tickets. The media keep trying to make Beto happen, but he is over. Gun Safety, Healthcare and the Environment as well as income inequality are the issues. If I had my way I'd have Harris and Buttigieg, but that's not happening. In fact Mayor Pete isn't going to make anyone's ticket, but he has a brilliant career ahead of him and I hope the Democratic Party realizes that.

by Anonymousreply 225April 26, 2019 11:15 AM

There needs to be a woman on the ticket. Women of color got us the Alabama senate seat. They show up. I think Harris needs to be on the ticket. Plus she is youngish. Liking Warren lately too. I'd be good with Biden, O'Rourke, Pete too.

Didn't Bernie switch to Democrat this go around?

Grrrrl, she has tea left to spill.

by Anonymousreply 246April 26, 2019 3:51 PM

Exactly, R246. Why do we think that Barr was trying to whisk her away back to Russia as soon as he possibly could? That fat fuck.

by Anonymousreply 247April 26, 2019 4:02 PM

See, Rosenstein hasn't had too much media attention since the Mueller report came out. Barr has been the main focus. Not saying Rosenstein was invisible, just that he hasn't had as much attention. So for him to be "speaking out" he must be feeling pressure from either inside the ranks at the DoJ from people who hate Barr, and love Mueller, Rosenstein's peers, or from members of Congress, etc. Stuff going on behind the scenes we're not aware of,so he probably is feeling heat.

I don't hate Rosenstein. I believe he did as much as he dared to keep Mueller's investigation alive. I think he was in a thankless position. And can you imagine having to go to the WH to report to Trump or to take his calls and be under daily pressure worrying about when the hammer would fall? He was Mueller's heat shield. Mueller may not have done all he wanted to do, all he needed to do, all we wanted him to do, but I believe Mueller did all he could. I believe Rosenstein kept him alive, even if it meant sometimes guiding him away from a certain line of inquiry. Because when Mueller bumped into that wall he simply handed off his findings to another jurisdiction, putting them out of harm's way, and probably protected by a Grand jury finding and the courts.

I 've always had problems with guys like Rosenstein, but years later I start seeing what they were dealing with. Maybe I'd have done it differently. But who knows. Kind of like when I was a kid and I wanted something or I wanted to go somewhere. And my parents told me No. No explanation. Years later I learn they weren't being "mean" they just couldn't afford it, or what I wanted was unsafe.

So we can stand out here and criticize and mock ass kisser Rosenstein, and maybe he has earned that for standing next to Barr. But I can't condemn him. I'd love to hear his true story one day. I think both Comey and McCabe had reservations about him, because he errs on the side of caution and...accommodates the politicians. Maybe he makes sure everything stays legal, interpreting the letter, but not the spirit of the law. He could have thrown Mueller under the bus. He didn't.

by Anonymousreply 248April 26, 2019 4:05 PM

Anyone who thinks Obama didn't make a plan with whatever secret agencies they have to track election interference is an idiot. Did McConnell think he was just going to sit back and say, "Oh, well. I guess I can't do anything about this,"? 5 dimensional chess, indeed.

by Anonymousreply 249April 26, 2019 4:10 PM

Yes, R249, I think Obama did all he could. I also think Obama enlisted the help of the international intelligence communities. There's a reason why Trump hates Merkel, and makes fun of Macron, and May. Some of it is his Far Right crap, a lot of it is reflecting Putin's views and Putin's agenda, but some has to be an awareness that he has no secrets from our allies. They know. And I also have to believe that to the extent it is possible, the international community will help nudge Trump to his defeat.

by Anonymousreply 250April 26, 2019 4:19 PM

Obama colluded with the UK to spy on Trump via the Five Eyes program that allows the governments of the USA, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel to spy on citizens of the other four nations and share that info, thus side-stepping laws against domestic spying.

Let me repeat that: Obama colluded with officials and non-officials in the UK (and other nations) to influence the 2016 election.

Christopher Steele is a citizen of the UK. Fusion GPS is a British company. Hillary hired these foreigners to work with Russian informants to dig up dirt (true or otherwise) on Trump. In other words, Hillary colluded with foreigners to sway the 2016 election.

SOMETHING IS TERRIBLY WRONG!

It is Melania Trump's birthday, and Lindsey Graham has not tweeted her birthday wishes...yet. He has done so in prior years with depictions of cakes and such. He never misses Trump's, Pence's, and Melania's birthday with tweets.

Sorry, but that is high colonic day.

Unhappy elites? LOL, they need to come up there to the rarified liberal air of the NE and see the happy.

This shit has made me grateful for the sane voices out there. I'm living my best life and making it a point to be kind to everyone as I take that 1/4 turn to the left and focus on what is happening in my own community.

Surprises the truck and SUV crowd when I pull over after they tailgate my Prius and wave happily and it shocked the local libertarian crowd when I happily listened to them. No one got mean and I walked away with a free lighter to start my grill.

I'm athiest, but went to the Easter breakfast because it supports the poor in the community. No one cared and everyone had a good time. I'm seeing this everywhere. People are tired of hatred. It's not worth carrying around.

Dems spread the message of hope and goodwill and things will change. This is not carnage, but one of the richest and most capable countries in the world. The juxtaposition was all we needed to realize it.

[quote]Trump supporters enjoy seeing him humiliate the people they believe have humiliated them (the “elites”), [R257].

Such an enlightened elevated basis on which to 'preside' over and influence the free world. Great premise.

In return, no 'President' in memory has been so humiliated in justified payback. 'POTUS' on magazine covers wearing a white hood, or slobbing on a recliner surrounded by junk food containers. The Trump blimp in London. Ad infinitum.

Trump and his cult are having their swamp-fun moment, but History will be merciless in its denunciation, beyond all our lifetimes.

At an official Justice Department dinner in New York hosted by the Armenian Bar Association, the embattled deputy attorney general reflected on his time in the Justice Department.

Rosenstein defended his handling of the special counsel’s investigation, ripped former FBI Director James Comey and accused the Obama administration of misleading the American people on Russia.

“I did pledge to do it right and take it to the appropriate conclusion. I did not promise to report all results to the public because grand jury investigations are ex parte proceedings,” Rosenstein said of Mueller’s report, which found no evidence of collusion between the presidential campaign of Donald Trump and Russia.

“It is not our job to render conclusive factual findings,” he continued. “We just decide whether it is appropriate to file criminal charges.”

The deputy attorney general also took the time to slam the Obama administration for its handling of Russian meddling and the subsequent investigation: “The previous administration chose not to publicize the full story about Russian computer hackers and social media trolls, and how they relate to a broader strategy to undermine America.”

He then discussed Comey’s handling of the investigation, making clear that he was not happy with the former FBI director’s handling of the investigation, saying:

The FBI disclosed classified evidence about the investigation to ranking legislators and their staffers. Someone selectively leaked details to the news media. The FBI director [Comey] announced at a congressional hearing that there was a counterintelligence investigation that might result in criminal charges. Then the former FBI director alleged that the president pressured him to close the investigation, and the president denied that the conversation occurred.

Sounds like a Comey indictment is in the pipeline.

In her weekly column for the Wall Street Journal, longtime conservative columnist Peggy Noonan expressed dismay with President Donald Trump — saying he was given a chance to act like a president, failed and now it is time for him to go.

“He destabilized the entire town,” she wrote before delving into special counsel Robert Mueller’s report which she admitted painted a devastating portrait of Trump — but still not enough to force her to call for impeachment which she said would be interpreted as, “a cynical attempt by the left to achieve by other means what it could not achieve at the ballot box.”

However, she did endorse the idea of Trump being defeated in 2020 by a Democrat.

For those who cannot see the:WAPO story, an excerpt:

‘I can land the plane’: How Rosenstein tried to mollify Trump, protect Mueller and save his job

Rod J. Rosenstein, again, was in danger of losing his job. The New York Times had just reported that — in the heated days after James B. Comey was fired as FBI director — the deputy attorney general had suggested wearing a wire to surreptitiously record President Trump. Now Trump, traveling in New York, was on the phone, eager for an explanation.

Rosenstein — who, by one account, had gotten teary-eyed just before the call in a meeting with Trump’s chief of staff — sought to defuse the volatile situation and assure the president he was on his team, according to people familiar with matter. He criticized the Times report, published in late September, and blamed it on former deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe, whose recollections formed its basis. Then he talked about special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation of Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and told the president he would make sure Trump was treated fairly, people familiar with the conversation said.

“I give the investigation credibility,” Rosenstein said, in the words of one administration official offering their own characterization of the call. “I can land the plane.”

...

Trump ended the call with Rosenstein thinking he was “on the team after all,” one senior administration official said, adding that the president has been further swayed by Rosenstein’s deference in meetings and other settings.

On multiple occasions, according to people familiar with the matter, Rosenstein told Trump he was not a “target” of Mueller’s investigation — using law enforcement jargon that can refer to people about whom the Justice Department has gathered substantial evidence of criminal wrongdoing. Mueller’s report makes clear that investigators focused on Trump; his attorneys were informed he was a “subject,” a different bureaucratic term meaning his conduct was being investigated. And Mueller’s report details conduct that legal observers have said could constitute obstruction of justice.

Fuck you Rod Rosenstein! Andrew McCabe and even Comey, who fucked us and caused the race to tighten, are better than you.

Remember the look on Robert Kardashian's face when OJ was found not guilty? It was a look of shock that OJ actually got away with it. Well that's the same look Rod Rosenstein had as he stood behind Barr during that infamous press conference hours before the actual release of Mueller Report. And we all know how it ended for Robert Kardashian.

by Anonymousreply 291April 26, 2019 8:51 PM

Not to defend Rosenstein, but once again Trump destroys everyone he touches.

by Anonymousreply 292April 26, 2019 8:52 PM

Rosenstein ouight to leave now. He ought to go ahead and join some high dollar law firm and just GTFO of there. He's over. HE will no longer have the trust of anyone at the Justice department if he stays. Now, maybe Donny will tell McConnell to nominate him for a federal judgeship. Quid.. Pro..Quo..

And here we all were worried that Trump was going to fire the traitorous weasel. And he let us believe he was on the side of upholding the law. I just can't believe how Trump gets these people to protect him!

Also, I wonder who is telling the Post all this? It has to be General Kelly. I think he is appalled at his own self. I bet he was "anonymous."

by Anonymousreply 300April 26, 2019 9:26 PM

I lost money betting anonymous was Kirstjen Nielsen. The bet expired but I still lean that way

by Anonymousreply 301April 26, 2019 9:32 PM

R300 It could be Kelly who is leaking. After all, Trump made some ugly comments about the missus and how she is frumpy and all. But it could also be Kellyanne con artist who is as adept at playing both sides against the middle, much like Rod. I am so sick of all of this. It's been 2 very long shitty years since the inauguration.

I saw where some hero threw a cell phone at Trump while he was on stage babbling about whatever to the NRA morons. R316 Longtime National Rifle Association (NRA) chief Wayne LaPierre told the group's board that its president, Oliver North, is extorting him, accusing North of trying to force his resignation over allegations of financial misdeeds.

LaPierre, the NRA’s CEO and executive vice president, wrote to board members in a letter Thursday that he refused North’s demand for his resignation, calling it a “threat meant to intimidate and divide us,” people familiar with the situation reportedly told The Wall Street Journal.

North sent the board a letter of his own Thursday evening, saying he was looking out for the NRA’s best interests and that he was forming a crisis committee to probe internal financial matters, according to the Journal.

North had previously sent a longer letter to the NRA board that highlighted new allegations of financial misconduct centering around more than $200,000 of wardrobe purchases by LaPierre that were charged to a vendor, the Journal reported.

One person familiar with the situation told the newspaper that LaPierre’s letter was an “angry reaction” to North’s longer, initial letter.

The tensions comes in the midst of the NRA’s annual national convention, at which President Trump spoke Friday.

Insiders believe that the battle will reach a climax by Monday, when the 76-member board is set to meet, the Journal reported.

The fight between LaPierre and North is reportedly rooted in part over a quarrel between the NRA and Ackerman McQueen Inc., its advertising firm, which led the NRA to file a lawsuit earlier this month.

The NRA claims Ackerman McQueen declined to provide records supporting its billings, while the advertising firm slammed the lawsuit as “frivolous” and “inaccurate.”

Among its claims in the NRA’s suit is that its request for details regarding Ackerman McQueen’s contact with North are being roadblocked. North hosts a documentary program on NRATV produced by Ackerman McQueen.

According to the Journal, LaPierre discussed in his letter a phone conversation between North and a senior NRA staffer this week in which North said Ackerman McQueen was readying a letter to the board that would be “bad for me, two other members of my executive team and the Association.”

LaPierre wrote that the letter in question “would contain a devastating account of our financial status, sexual harassment charges against a staff member, accusations of wardrobe expenses and excessive staff travel expenses.” He added that after the call “others informed me that I needed to withdraw the NRA lawsuit against [Ackerman McQueen] or be smeared.”

The NRA chief wrote that North said that Ackerman McQueen would not send the damaging letter if the executive vice president resigned. He added that the threat was expressed “in the parlance of extortionists, as an offer I couldn’t refuse. I refused it.”

LaPierre claimed that Ackerman McQueen paid North millions of dollars annually for the documentary program but that only three episodes have thus far been produced, resulting in questions from the NRA as to why it is paying the advertising firm “in light of these production shortfalls.”

The dispute pits two conservative juggernauts against each other. LaPierre, the almost 30-year head of the influential group, lifted the NRA out of grass-roots obscurity into the national advocacy giant it is today. North, in his own right, is widely respected among Republicans for his work in the 1980s on the National Security Council.

North, who became NRA president a year ago, will have to stand for reelection after his tenure expires on Monday.

by Anonymousreply 319April 27, 2019 12:11 AM

Wouldn't it be great if they simply end up destroying each other? The NRA is not doing so well financially. Could be perfect timing to bring the whole thing down.

by Anonymousreply 320April 27, 2019 12:27 AM

I can’t wait for Congress to get back to work next week.

by Anonymousreply 321April 27, 2019 12:32 AM

The NRA is having financial problems but yet they found the resources to dump almost $30M into Trump's campaign. Wonder where that money came from? Maybe Marina Butina can tell us...On a side note, I was driving cross country last summer and came across a huge NRA facility in the middle of no where. I think it must have been Colorado. Huge complex of buildings and grounds but no near any major city. Very strange.

by Anonymousreply 323April 27, 2019 2:29 AM

Anyone watching Brian Williams? Were voting machines hacked and vote totals changed in Florida?

by Anonymousreply 324April 27, 2019 3:23 AM

R324 I post this which used to be regularly posted on these threads early on:

[quote]Yes. There's already proof. I work in the industry. I sat in a meeting with the head of cyber security investigations for the FBI in Florida. Their systems were hacked in 2016. What's difficult is proving that (or more accurately stated "how") the votes were manipulated. But go back to election night and remember how Trump pulled ahead in Florida, NC, MI, PA and WI. It happened almost like clock work once the precincts reporting crossed the 50% threshold. This shit is deep. Putin had already done this in his own election and also in Ukraine. We should be very worried about the EU elections coming up.

by Anonymousreply 325April 27, 2019 3:56 AM

and we'll never know what happened in Florida because the repubs keep winning and they won't investigate since it helps them, whether they were involved in the hacking or not

by Anonymousreply 326April 27, 2019 3:59 AM

Very early on, I'm talking November 2016. I swear. I wrote on whatever DL thread was prominent at the time, that I thought the election was hacked. Not necessarily rigged, but hacked. It was my theory that Putin got into the voting tallies if anywhere from 3 to 8 of the deciding electoral college states where Trump "won" by less than 1%. Florida was one I mentioned. I said it would possibly be discovered long after I was dead. I'm still alive.

Damn that story has me going. (And I'm not the only who believes this as many others tagged my postings in agreement).

I wish I had them saved!

by Anonymousreply 327April 27, 2019 4:07 AM

Thanks for the reminder, r326. I heard something on the radio tonight, maybe NPR, about FL polls being hacked and meant to look it up.

I’m guessing this based on something new breaking, otherwise, why is it coming up now.

by Anonymousreply 328April 27, 2019 4:12 AM

Earlier today I was going to write a post speculating that maybe one of the reasons why Republicans are all-in with Trump is because they know the election was hacked and he and other Republicans didn't really win. Republicans have been hacking elections for years. Notice in elections with voting irregularites, the winners are always Republican? Maybe this time Russia helped or maybe not.

by Anonymousreply 329April 27, 2019 4:31 AM

Michigan would be the state that should be looked at. Something very strange happened here on election night

by Anonymousreply 330April 27, 2019 4:35 AM

Look at NC. They were caught red-handed.

by Anonymousreply 331April 27, 2019 4:36 AM

I saw the news report on him at the NRA event and some guy throwing a phone etc. HE LOOKS FATTER THAN EVER!!!!

by Anonymousreply 332April 27, 2019 4:36 AM

and remember that NRA cunt in Florida. It's all connected. The sad part is nothing will be done in Florida since repubs always "win" the Governorship. The Bill Nelson Senate loss was quite dubious too

by Anonymousreply 333April 27, 2019 4:37 AM

These cunts asked to be hacked. I knew it would fucking happen. just stick to paper ballots. less difficult to fix an election via the old way...i'm sure it's possible but less likely.

by Anonymousreply 334April 27, 2019 4:38 AM

I have several friends who are executives in major market research firms. They have access to many different internal polls and exit polls. On election day, they said that Trump had no chance of winning based on all their various data points - from both their polls and others that had been shared with them. Not one single poll had him anywhere near winning. These aren't the public polls but polls that the candidates have done internally. When the partial exit polls came in during early voting and even the day of the election, they still said that he had no way to win. They are convinced that the data wasn't wrong but the polls were manipulated. It was so wrong that it was three and four times out side the margin of error. So it totally would not shock me that Florida was somehow hacked.

by Anonymousreply 335April 27, 2019 5:17 AM

What did Brian Williams say?

by Anonymousreply 336April 27, 2019 5:21 AM

I bet the public has a better time understanding hacking the vote much easier than a 400 page report.

by Anonymousreply 337April 27, 2019 5:23 AM

I read somewhere that Florida has more registered Democrats than repubs. I understand that doesn't necessarily mean that all or most of the Democrats vote, or that some haven't changed sides but still...there are a lot more people in the southeast than the rest of the state. It's like how Chicago outweighs the rest of Illinois. It doesn't make sense how they are so pro-repub in elections, especially governor

by Anonymousreply 338April 27, 2019 5:24 AM

R335- I've been thinking about this ever since Trump was elected. I distinctly remember that on the night of the election, someone named Frank Luntz tweeted something like, well, Hillary Clinton is the next president. He was saying that based on the polls he was looking at. I didn't realize right away that Luntz was a Republican pollster.

So why would a Republican be so absolutely sure that Clinton had won when a Republican would be doing exactly like Karl Rove had done - he would've kept up the hope for Republicans until the last minute.

When anyone ever brought this up, the response was always - well, the exit polls were wrong because people were too ashamed to admit they voted for Trump. Based on what we've seen over the last few years, does it really seem possible that those voters would be embarrassed?

by Anonymousreply 339April 27, 2019 5:45 AM

Bill Maher took a giant shit on Bob Mueller, and flushed him down the bowl, during his final commentary tonight on “Real Time”. The clip hasn’t been posted on YouTube yet. Definitely worth a watch.

by Anonymousreply 340April 27, 2019 5:48 AM

R340- I saw part of his comments. He actually made some good points. He said that Mueller was wrong to not indict Trump based on the DOJ "precedence" because precedence can change - so if Mueller indicted, that would be the new precedence.

Mueller is a total asshole and when they write our sad history, Mueller will stand as a lowlife bastard, just like Trump.

Trump is Putin's bitch, just as Mueller is Trump's bitch.

by Anonymousreply 343April 27, 2019 6:01 AM

Mueller ended up being a chickenshit prosecutor. The obstruction was so severe and ongoing that it would have warranted breaking the DoJ memo against indicting a sitting president.

by Anonymousreply 344April 27, 2019 6:24 AM

[quote]The NRA is having financial problems but yet they found the resources to dump almost $30M into Trump's campaign.

They started having financial troubles after the election when the Russia connection became known. The reason they are having trouble now is that the Russians stopped giving them the money because they got caught.

On another note, I just saw that they are going to let that Coast Guard guy who had all those guns and the hit list to kill a bunch of Democrats, including Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, a couple of the Dem candidates, and a bunch of news people free on bond with an ankle bracelet because the Justice Department, headed by Barr, has decided to not charge him with any violent crimes or terrorism. Trump and Barr are going to get someone assassinated. Will we need to have a hearing then, too? Take our time? Fuckers.

by Anonymousreply 345April 27, 2019 6:36 AM

R340 again.

I agree with your points R341 and R344, and I am is pissed as the rest of us this “can’t indict a sitting president” bullshit. I’m surprised Maher didn’t bring out the condemning parts that Mueller concluded in Part Two of the report, which certainly is a scathing testimony about Trumps obstruction. In any event, the bottom line is Trump will be (rightfully), tormented by the Dems.

by Anonymousreply 346April 27, 2019 6:45 AM

so basically, now if Trump is re-elected and he now knows they won't indict a sitting president, he gonna do all sorts of shady and grey area type of crimes...

by Anonymousreply 347April 27, 2019 7:20 AM

Putin will do anything in his power to get Trump reelected again.

by Anonymousreply 348April 27, 2019 7:31 AM

[quote]Mueller ended up being a chickenshit prosecutor. The obstruction was so severe and ongoing that it would have warranted breaking the DoJ memo against indicting a sitting president.

R344, we still haven't seen the unredacted report; we still mostly know it refracted through a Trump/Barr prism.

It's also possible that Mueller's efforts were thwarted at various points, like seeing Trump's finances/tax returns. Trump long ago threatened that that would be a red line for him, and it looks like that was one which Mueller did not cross. From the point Matthew Whitaker was appointed 'acting AG,' Mueller appears to have begun winding down. Perhaps Matt Schlapp was correct, and for all intents and purposes, the investigation ended then.

Maybe Mueller was threatened. We just don't know.

by Anonymousreply 349April 27, 2019 7:44 AM

R349 If Mueller was experiencing obstruction first hand through pressure from within the DoJ, then more the reason to break with protocols. Indict explicitly or at the least whistle-blow on the corrupt conducts in the DoJ. Instead he just punted it to Congress, while staying silent even as Barr misrepresented his report for weeks. There's a line between being a company man and a coward.

by Anonymousreply 350April 27, 2019 8:21 AM

R350, observing the 'cannot indict a sitting president' rule is not cowardice.

by Anonymousreply 351April 27, 2019 8:38 AM

R351 Yes, it is when the sitting president is actively trying to foil your investigation or misrepresenting your report through his corrupt AG. It is kowtowing to corruption.

by Anonymousreply 352April 27, 2019 8:47 AM

Trump seems to be going genuinely crazy now so the GOP may have to find a way to get rid of him themselves before he completely implodes and ends up taking some of them down.

by Anonymousreply 356April 27, 2019 10:53 AM

Of course the Russians hacked the vote in 2016. I was in Michigan. I knew instantly that something fishy happened. They're very smart about how they do it. It only takes a few votes per precinct. And the switch doesn't necessarily go to Trump. It can go to Jill Stein or some guy named Johnson. Now there is no doubt Trump was helped by Comey, and the race tightened up in October. But Hillary was still going to win and those fuckers stole the election. She is the duly elected legitimate POTUS. ( remember that when reading stupid articles about how Americans will "never vote for a woman." We did!)

Anyone who doubts this is still a believer in Santa. Ask yourself: Why would Putin set up Troll farms, involve his GRU agents, send people here in 2015 to scope out the election operations and invest millions in social media, have his people working with Cambridge Analytica, Wiki Leaks, in a comprehensive effort to help Trump, flooding the NRA with $40 Million, spreading millions around to McConnell's super pacs and Ryan's? They weren't subtle. Putin knows better than most how the intel community operates. He knew we would discover the finger prints. Why go to all that effort if you weren't going to guarantee the outcome?

It has already been established that they got into the voting rolls in all 50 states. First they said 21, then they said no, it's more, it's 37, and within the past few months they have acknowledged all 50 states were compromised....and then they add the disclaimer that " there is no evidence that this affected the outcome...." LOL! Right. No, there is no "evidence." It evaporates. No trail, no paper ballots, nothing. Just a lot of circumstantial facts. Putin wanted Trump to be President. Putin caused "X" number of things to happen. Putin had his oligarchs invest millions, and used his own intel agents, many of whom have now been named and indicted. And Trump became President. Duuh!

by Anonymousreply 357April 27, 2019 11:09 AM

Want to add that most people don't even know how elections are set up or who makes the rules in every state. We all live in a voting district. Within that district are precincts, and EACH PRECINCT Averages about 800 voters. So in Michigan, for example, if you want to steal 11,000 votes, you skim the precincts. If someone catches something they can always claim,"Oops, it was a 'glitch' in the computers." We have a lot of work to do to insure ballot security. We have not done it. We are vulnerable to cyber attacks from anywhere. it will take time to fix this. But in the meantime there is something we can do. We can insist on paper ballots, and we can insist our state legislatures make the electoral college voters reflect the national popular vote.

So much springs to mind.

1) Trump's toxic sprawling blubber would fill both seats next to his dear wife.

2) The space is sublimely beautiful given what could be there - and probably didn't want to be, because the day wasn't about HIM.

3) The space is sublimely beautiful because it reminds us of what one day will come to pass - permanently. Melania is merely incidental, but a useful pretext to inspire such thoughts.

"I owe the corporate media an apology. For the last few years, I’ve been writing all these essays explaining how they were perpetrating an enormous psyop on the American public … a psyop designed to convince the public that Donald Trump “colluded” with Russia to steal the presidency from Hillary Clinton. Up until a few days ago, I would have sworn that they had published literally thousands of articles and editorials, and broadcast countless TV segments, more or less accusing him of treason, and being a “Russian intelligence asset,” and other ridiculous stuff like that. Also, and I’m still not sure how this happened, I somehow got the idea in my head that the investigation that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was meticulously conducting had something to do with Donald Trump conspiring or “colluding” with Russia, or being some kind of “Manchurian president,” or being blackmailed by Putin with a pee-tape, or something.

In any event, the publication of the Mueller report has cleared things up for me. I get it now. The investigation was never about Trump colluding with Russia. It was always about Trump obstructing the investigation of the collusion with Russia that the investigation was not about. Mueller was never looking for collusion. It was not his job to look for collusion. His job was to look for obstruction of his investigation of alleged obstruction of his investigation of non-collusion, which he found, and detailed at length in his report, and which qualifies as an impeachable offense.

Not that he proved that there was no collusion! On the contrary, as professional hermeneuticists have been repeatedly pointing out on Twitter, given that Mueller wasn’t looking for collusion, and that collusion could never have been legally established, and isn’t even a legal term, Mueller’s failure to find any actual evidence of collusion is evidence of collusion, notwithstanding the fact that he couldn’t prove it, and wasn’t even looking for it, except to the extent it allowed him to establish a case for the obstruction he was actually investigating.

In other words, his investigation was launched in order to investigate the obstruction of his investigation. And, on those terms, it was a huge success. The fact that it didn’t prove “collusion” means nothing — that’s just a straw man argument that Trump and his Russian handlers make. The goal all along was to prove that Trump obstructed an investigation of his obstruction of that investigation, not that he was “colluding” with Putin, or any of the other paranoid nonsense that the corporate media were forced to report on, once an investigation into his obstruction of the investigation was launched. . . ."

Yes, they committed the lie of omission. That woman was brought to the USA by Obama and sent to the Trump campaign as a plant to smear them. They met with her but didn't otherwise take the bait. It is not illegal to talk to people from Russia, nor is it illegal to gather intelligence from foreign sources.

When Trump declassifies the FISA warrants everyone from Obama to Brennan to Chief Justice Roberts is going to have some explaining to do. The big scandal starts with the indictment of James Comey, coming in a week or so.

MIAMI (CNN) — Federal Bureau of Investigation officials are set to meet with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and US Sen. Rick Scott about concerns that Russians hacked at least one Florida county ahead of the 2016 election.

The recent Mueller report contained the first-ever public US government claim that hackers successfully compromised a county’s network in the lead-up to that year’s election. The report states “the FBI believes that this operation enabled the GRU to gain access to the network of at least one Florida county government.”

That county has never been identified.

Chris Hartline, a spokesman for Scott, told CNN that the FBI reached out to schedule an appointment “in the next week or so.”

Think of how Obama wishes his wife happy birthday. He tweets a flattering posed picture of her smiling and looking happy and talks about how great she is. It’s good publicity for her and him too. Proud husband and great wife.

HBO host Bill Maher challenged Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff on the idea of a post-Mueller report impeachment of President Donald Trump.

“The Mueller report is, at the end of the day, that firecracker that goes up and then it fizzles,” Maher joked. “Do you think you guys relied too much on that?”

After calling the idea that Mueller would indict Trump not “realistic,” Schiff still contended that the “Russians were engaged in a systemic effort to interfere in our election, that the Trump campaign welcomed it, embraced it, built it into their plan, made full use of it, lied about it, covered it up, and then obstructed the investigation into it. And, if we had any doubt before about this president’s fitness for office, there is no doubt remaining, he is unfit for the presidency.”

“But this was our big gun,” Maher responded. “Now it just looks like you’re stalking him.”

The HBO host argued that Mueller being a fair person of honor was “the last thing in America that left and right agreed on.”

by Anonymousreply 399April 27, 2019 9:43 PM

I remember on election night in 2016, seeing Florida returns come in and, at one point, Hillary was way ahead and most of the votes that still weren't in were from Democratic areas. Then, suddenly, Trump surged for no reason at all. Then, all the talking heads start bleating about how Democrats must not have turned out or everyone lied to all the exit pollsters. Bullshit.

Also, the fact that both Scott and DeSantis won while that 'let felons vote' initiative soundly passed tells me that there were a whole lot more Dems voting that night but votes were switched in the up ticket races but the ballot initiatives weren't hacked correspondingly to match.

And that's just Florida. That same shit happened in every single battleground state. Russia elected Trump. That should have been the title of Mueller's fucking report.

by Anonymousreply 400April 27, 2019 10:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 401April 27, 2019 10:04 PM

Can someone here with knowledge elaborate re the difference between the House investigating the issues related to potential impeachment, and actually formally opening an Impeachment process itself. Some bloggers (such as those over at Marcy Wheeler's) are apoplectic that Pelosi et al are dragging their feet re formal impeachment proceedings - they've been saying that it would allow broader and more sweeping investigatory and subpoena powers they currently don't have now, with no formal process and all the stonewalling.

Essentially from what I gather, formal proceedings allows Congress and the House a much wider amount of leverage and power in dealing with these WH and repub schmucks. But for whatever reason, they are delaying the big "I" for now and perhaps losing momentum as a result. Anyone comment - ?

by Anonymousreply 421April 28, 2019 4:27 AM

R421, I believe just declaring that they are doing an impeachment investigation gives them those powers. They have to investigate before they can charge, just like any legal body. What changes is that the investigations actually become legal proceedings instead of congressional investigations. If they find there is enough evidence to impeach, they take the vote and Trump is impeached at that point. It then goes to the Senate for the trial.

I think they do need to declare the investigations as officially evolving into impeachment proceedings. They can then investigate him up the ass with increased legal powers for the next year and a half without having to vote on actual impeachment and sending it to the fucking Repug weasels in the Senate. Richard Nixon was never impeached. He resigned after all the impeachment investigations that were televised all over the place made it impossible for him to stay there. The difference is that he was told that if he were impeached, the Senate including the Republicans, would vote to convict him and remove him. I don't think we have that, so impeachment investigation hearings and testimony for the next year is all we'll get with the hope that he will resign (doubt it) or will be so damaged he loses.

Trump has been saying some strange things: Like not leaving office. Saying that if he loses it would be because of fraud and the election would be illegal. Saying things like he likes being PResident and might stay for 10 or 12 more years. This is not Nixon. He will never resign. He has protection from prosecution as PResident. He can run out the statute of limitations on some crimes. So unless they are willing to make a deal with him to not prosecute him EVER, he intends to stay. He's aiding and abetting violence too. So that may be one reason they don't want to Impeach. Because he is saying that the Mueller investigation was an "attempted coup" and Impeachment would be looked on the same way. WE have a real shit mess on our hands. It may take divine intervention.

The kind of people holding public office these days, they don't have the capacity to feel guilt or shame. They entered politics with corrupt intent. I think they justify it with "All politicians lie, all politicians cheat." Going back to the 80's I've noticed a cynicism in the Republicans. They thought it was great to have some figure head like Reagan who spouted platitudes and was scripted much of the time, but his "heart was in the right place. CONSERVATIVE. Now they have another figure head, except he decided he wasn't going to be as compliant. He was going to "run the show." They made their bargain with the Devil a long time ago. They're arrogant, corrupt entitled pieces of shit. The ones with any shred of decency have quit.

They haven't read it yet - what's the hold up and what can be done about it?

How long does the CI portion of the report have to stay classified?

By talking about their lies and inconsistencies, we do ourselves no favors. They don't care. That's the main thing we need to hold on to. THEY DO NOT GIVE A FUCK. About anything. Not their previous statements or actions; not the Law, not the rules, not the Constitution, not the American people. They do not care about the environment, or education, or infrastructure, or Healthcare. They do not care about the minimum wage, income inequality, or jobs.

Chuck and Nancy meeting with Trump about infrastructure? Really????LOLOLOLOL!!!! Yeah. The Republicans really care about whether we have clean drinking water. (People in Flint Michigan are still drinking bottled water and still getting sick going on five fucking years. ) Look how concerned the Republicans were about Puerto Rico. And Georgia, which is a Red State still has not received the funding to address the storm damage from last year. Farmers in Iowa are going bankrupt. Lots of them.

They have locked small children in cages ripping them out of their parents' arms with no way to reunited them or track them. Thousands of kids. People are literally dying because they can no longer afford prescription drugs like insulin. WTF else do the Democrats and the American voters need to see. What line are we waiting for them to cross? People are getting murdered in Synagogues and others are victims of hate crimes because of their religion or their race. The Republicans have a very narrow set of concerns. Looking out for themselves, and pleasing their donors. Trump's are even narrower. He is making deals with his family, giving away our nuclear technology to the Saudis, and implementing Russia's agenda. So I ask, what else do we need to know. W.T.F. are we waiting for? Anyone? ...Anyone???

by Anonymousreply 542April 30, 2019 6:09 PM

Are you referring to Melania's pussy?

by Anonymousreply 559April 30, 2019 7:43 PM

CNN: The Mueller report documents at least 77 specific instances where President Donald Trump's campaign staff, administration officials and family members, Republican backers and his associates lied or made false assertions (sometimes unintentionally) to the public, Congress, or authorities.

The plurality of lies came from Trump himself, and most of them took place while he was president.
