Anyone imagined he'd still be in the White House by the time Part 100 rolled around? How depressing.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 30, 2019 9:25 PM |
I knoe, R8. But I believe it's because the media has normalized him to a large extent. Oh,m they report his outrageous behavior. But it's as if we're all spectators at some reality show. In Congress, the GOP does worse than nothing:they actively protect and defend Trump instead of the Constitution. The man has abused power and broken laws consistently, he has acted against the interests of the United States whenever possible, and all of that done in plain sight without any "Mueller Report." The Democrats keep applying the usual political remedies and none of them work. None of them, because he is playing a different game. He doesn't give a fuck about norm, traditions rules or the Law. Media need to get rough with him, Congress should subpoena & make some arrests, get aggressive. Place his behavior in context. He is completely unfit for office and he needs to go. Period. The media knows exactly how to make life miserable for politicians. So why aren't they focused on the GOP members of Congress. I'd be making those fuckers scared to go out their front door.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 30, 2019 9:42 PM |
One thing is certain. The Republicans and their RUssian friends have analyzed the shit out of the 2018 mid terms. They will be doing everything they can to stop it from happening again. They may not get the House back but they will fight with everything they have to hold the Senate and the WH. So the Democrats better be ready. This is war.

Of course she was right about everything. She is the rightful President. She was cheated out of the Presidency by, very likely, changed votes or suppressed votes. Or both.
Pres Bone Spurs acts like he is illegitimate which means he KNOWS it.
Oh, when I read the he and the Dems agreed to 2 trillion dollars for infrastructure I was pretty happy. Finally, something great comes from this mess. Then the Huckster said the meetings went "excellent" and I slumped down in my seat.

We need to have election experts in every state that are all over those election boards. The fight will be in the count and the Repubs are capable of anything.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 30, 2019 10:06 PM |
I really don't think the Russians will bother much in 2020. They got busted for 2016 and didn't get as much as they hoped out of getting Trump into the WH. Besides there is no one they really hate on the Dem side to motivate them to risk more exposure. Of course, the GOP traitors will try to cajole some help from them again, but it won't be the same all out effort they gave the Trump campaign in 2016, when the Russians practically begged Team Trump to accept their help.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 30, 2019 10:17 PM |
R14 Are you smoking some really great crack? They are actively meddling again in huge ways. They will never stop and are getting EVERYTHING they want and need from this administration.

I agree it's PAST time for Democrats to fucking play hardball. Just issue subpoenas to all the ones who aren't complying. If they still come before Congress, throw their asses in jail AND fine them. Don't let them set this precedent. You know damn well that a repub Congress wouldn't let any Democratic administration get away with this

Breaking: Chris Matthews is just reporting this bombshell.
WAPO: In a memo sent to AG Bill Barr, Muller told Barr that his remarks to the report “failed to capture the context, nature and substance of probe”
Mueller is pissed. I love it. Get Mueller up there NOW to testify.

I am waiting for Barr. So help me, I want him to refuse to testify. I want the sergeant at arms to arrest him. I want mueller to testify. And, just remember, no matter what trump does, the AG of NY subpoenaed Deutsche bank records a month ago, these are the same records trump is stonewalling congress on. Ny is state, fat fucking moron can not shut it down.

by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 1, 2019 12:47 AM |
Word is there has been something huge going on behind the scenes like R60 alluded to. Or Mr. Schiff alluded to. I think we've all known this but it accentuates how frantic the GOP is about getting as many judges/power/laws passed before the shit goes down. By that time, they will (they hope) have as many things in place that will last long after they are hung for treason. The Garland nom was THE egregious thing when they showed their hand.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 1, 2019 12:48 AM |
Schiff is coming out as the true leader of the opposition. For so long Mueller was painted as the big slayer, but the more we see, the more it becomes clear Adam Schiff was always the real threat to Trump.
I love you California.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 1, 2019 12:51 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 69 | May 1, 2019 1:06 AM |
R67 Exactly. They may have had doubts but they had assurances. It was so blatant, egregious, audacious. That tells you at least how high up this went in GOP circles because obviously McC knew. They received their crown jewel with that. That, in and of itself, was worth it. Kav, the would be rapist, was just icing on the treason cake.

I think Barr is so arrogant he doesn't care about backlash. He thinks he's insulated from consequences. It honestly wouldn't shock me if he dared to open an investigation into Mueller. Barr is that corrupt and evil. He needs to be in jail

It would be delicious when Trump disavow Barr like a cheap trick.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 1, 2019 1:12 AM |
Of the two, Barr and Mueller, I’d rather have Mueller in open testimony. If that letter is real, Mueller sounds pissed. He might want to redeem himself whereas Barr is just a useless liar.

by Anonymous | reply 77 | May 1, 2019 1:24 AM |
From Robert Costa at the Washington Post:
Just spoke with Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who says “a lot of remedies need to be on the table” for congressional response to Barr’s conduct. He does *not* rule out possible impeachment proceedings. Calls Mueller letter “stunning” and a “game changer for [Barr’s] legacy.”
by Anonymous | reply 78 | May 1, 2019 1:25 AM |
It gives me a lot of joy knowing how badly the GOP is squirming tonight, especially Lindsey. He's in charge of the judiciary and it will be fascinating to see him twisting around trying to make Barr out to be the good guy after today's news. If they even let Barr testify at this point.
Maybe Trump will just dismiss Barr with one of his little tweets, should he decide to actually tell the truth tomorrow. Which makes me agree with the posters who have said Barr will be a no-show. Trump has no use for anyone who tells the truth, but Barr could go to jail for lying. Decisions, decisions.
Things are going to get ugly!

R77 no what's stupid is him thinking he could get away with his conduct and no one would find out until years later. Why take the risk? That's why I say he's arrogant and doesn't care if most of the public hates his guts. He just doesn't want to get in trouble for it

In my view, the Mueller Report is an epic fail UNLESS it is released in its entirety. Let the citizens and taxpayers see it. All of it..... with the exception of any info that may compromise foreign espionage. We have endured the criminal Miss Trump and Company long enough. Let the sunshine rule prevail.

Mueller is like a Joe Friday, the straightest of straight arrows. Barr is his boss. He didn’t write an insubordinate letter for the hell of it. He wants to be brought in and asked to elaborate further, he wants Barr to be raked over the coals this week.

[quote]One thing is certain. The Republicans and their RUssian friends have analyzed the shit out of the 2018 mid terms. They will be doing everything they can to stop it from happening again.
They don't need to analyze 2018 because they were right in the middle of that one, too. They made sure that the Repugs kept the Senate. If they had also had them keep the House against all odds, it would have been too obvious. Do you really think Scott won in Florida? Hawley? Blackburn? I don't think so. They kept just enough from swinging blue to hold the Senate. With that much of a blue wave, there should have been no gains for the Repugs, even in the leaning states. Just doesn't make sense but everyone just moved on.

R85. McConnell probably was behind urging Trump to appoint Barr. Barr is getting too old for a Supreme Court appointment. Plus, he would not get confirmed after this saga. Even several Republican would object. Besides, Republicans want younger nominees in their forties or early fifties so they will be around for decades.

Recent developments "give us more reason than ever to have confidence in the attorney general by providing insight into how the attorney general and the special counsel successfully collaborated to navigate a very difficult and historically momentous situation."
"House Democrats have another opportunity to put partisan politics aside and recognize Attorney General Barr has conducted himself in an exemplary manner."

Buried in the Post report and absent from the headline is this pretty important line way down in the body.
“When Barr pressed him whether he thought Barr’s letter was inaccurate, Mueller said he did not, but felt that the media coverage of the letter was misinterpreting the investigation, officials said.”
In other words, Barr pushed back on Mueller’s silly complaints and got him to admit that Barr hadn’t misrepresented anything. Then we see Mueller fold and say he’s actually just upset with the media for misrepresenting the matter.

R91 When Barr was asked about Mueller testifying, he said he had no problem with this but he qualified it by saying as a "private citizen." So far, Mueller is still a DOJ employee which is probably why the DOJ is dragging its feet. There was reporting that Mueller will be finishing up in the next few days which would make him a private citizen again. Basically, Barr has blocked him from testifying while still wrapping up his report/office but once he is a private citizen, there is nothing that Barr can do to stop him from testifying.

BREAKING more obfuscation by Barr. This fucking traitor needs to go
WASHINGTON — The special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, asked Attorney General William P. Barr twice to release more of his investigative findings in late March after Mr. Barr outlined the inquiry’s main conclusions in a letter to Congress, citing a gap between Mr. Barr’s interpretation and Mr. Mueller’s report, according to a letter released on Wednesday.
Mr. Mueller’s office first informed the Justice Department of their concerns on March 25, a day after Mr. Barr released his letter clearing Mr. Trump but declined to release the special counsel’s findings themselves.
“We communicated that concern to the department on the morning of March 25,” Mr. Mueller said in a second letter to Mr. Barr two days later. “There is now public confusion about critical aspects of the results of our investigation.”
Mr. Mueller asked the Justice Department to release the summaries of his findings. Mr. Barr declined.

by Anonymous | reply 288 | May 1, 2019 7:25 PM |

All the legal analysts say that Mueller writing that letter is very unusual for him and that he must have thought that Barr had totally undermined 2 years of investigative work so he wanted to put some kind of record in writing. Given that, it seems likely that if he's allowed, Mueller will gladly testify before Congress.
I wonder if they could ask him a hypothetical question like - if the DOJ guidelines were changed tomorrow and you COULD indict a sitting president, would all of the evidence Mueller collected be enough to indict Trump? Because I bet Mueller would answer, "Yes, and indict him 10 times over".
by Anonymous | reply 335 | May 2, 2019 2:57 AM |
I'm surprised that so many Republicans can't see the writing on the wall and taking action. Based on what's happened so far, they should know that everything will eventually come out. So if they've been complicit in any way - Lindsay, are you listening? - they really need to get to their bank and see if they have enough money to head to some nice, quiet European village somewhere.
But they all seem to want to hold on by their fingernails. Which is pointless because it will all come out at some point. So why go to bed every night just waiting and worrying for the sword to drop?
by Anonymous | reply 336 | May 2, 2019 3:02 AM |
R336 The answer is they do not think it will come out and if it does, they are actively blurring the truth all the time. You can't make sense of any thing a conservative does.

Christine Blasey Ford was fine with an attorney questioning her. She didn't refuse to answer just because it was an attorney asking the questions.

I have a question. What if Mueller is in a bind because DoJ won't allow him to testify while he's officially an employee but if he quits he no longer heads the ongoing investigations still under his purview?

Cheeto won by what? 60k people? And that included many people who just hated Clinton (hi Bar!) or wanted to blow things up. MILLIONS more voted for her.
So the moderates and independents win presidential elections. Dumbo hasn't gone above 40-something % or expanded his base the whole time he's been in office. Dems have protected health insurance and are about to get some infrastructure done.
That 40% is more powerful? Worth throwing your legacy for? Someone who will turn on you and support an opponent on a dime?
I don't get it.

R344 Exactly.
I love being told certain parts of the country are more "American" than others. They call the coasts elites but the coasts make fun of flyover country only because the flyovers have been saying they are the real "Americans" for decades. He could resign and. testify but people think hes a "law and order" man who follows chain of command and would prefer that route.
But if he gets subpoenaed, he'd testify. Question is whether he'd reveal anything useful.

Barr did his job.

It would just be nice to hear someone who is being honest. It's obvious Barr and Co are worried about what he's going to say from their attempts to block him from testifying.
He's not playing on their team the way they want him to and that's very good news.
by Anonymous | reply 351 | May 2, 2019 4:52 AM |
Why hasn't anyone asked Barr if he ended the investigation or pushed Mueller to finish early or gave him a deadline? Are they waiting to ask Mueller so they'll have the truth to throw in Barr's fat, lying face when they get around to asking his subpoenaed ass?
[quote]It was very easy for Ford to testify. She just to keep saying "I don't remember" about 400 times.
We know there are Russian trolls on here but I've never seen the Russian syntax show up so blatantly. "She just to keep saying..."? Really? Say that with a Russian accent in your head and it's exactly what a Russian who didn't know English very well would say.
As far as open investigations that Mueller is still involved in, I think he is. He's the charging party in some of the cases still. I don't think his grand juries have been released. Mueller just won an appeal in the Stone case two days ago. That's how it is reported. It doesn't say that DC prosecutors won the appeal. It says Mueller did. But, really, if the grand juries are still empaneled he's still doing something. And, he is still an employee of the DoJ. So, I don't know what's going on.
by Anonymous | reply 352 | May 2, 2019 5:49 AM |
If he is still empaneled, does that mean that he can be kept from testifying because , Barr is still his boss?
by Anonymous | reply 353 | May 2, 2019 7:29 AM |
Mueller is a company man. He took offense at Barr's lies, but dared not CALL them lies, let alone obstruction of justice. There will be nothing new, revelatory, or earth-shattering in any upcoming Mueller testimony.
Moreover, Mueller apparently conducted his investigation using the same standard as the one HIS BOSS Barr repeatedly emphasized yesterday:
"Proof beyond a reasonable doubt."
No Democrat thought to ask Barr, "If indictment of a sitting President leading to a criminal trial is precluded by DoJ recommendation, then why was the 'proof' requirement that of a criminal trial? Mueller wasn't conducting a criminal prosecution. He was conducting an investigation."
That is why Barr reiterated that irrelevant "standard." For the Peanut Gallery.

"US Attorney General William Barr has refused to testify to the Democratic-led House Judiciary Committee on his handling of the Russia inquiry. Mr Barr had previously objected to a plan for lawyers to ask questions at Thursday's hearing. [...] The Justice Department also said that it would not comply with a subpoena issued by Mr Nadler asking for an unredacted version of Mr Mueller's report as well as files from the investigation."
They're trying to cover up the coverup.

Essentially Barr is trying to become one big distraction to make people lose focus on the crimes Mueller found. He's there to muddy up the clear legal issues and provide alternative facts/talking points for the deplorable GOP. He doesn't care if he gets impeached or goes to jail (though he's betting he can wiggle out of that) as long as he can use his AG bully pulpit to put up a smoke screen around the Mueller Report. He has gone rogue abusing his position just like the monster in the WH. They both deserve to rot in prison.

Now I usually wouldn't think NASA would get involved in nasty politics, but then seeing how Pence talked about it weeks ago in a speech and the NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine was once a GOP Congressman, I can't but conclude all this ambitious talk is nothing but deplorable distraction.

He was trying to act dismissive of the letter like some underling wrote it so why should he care, as if Mueller would ever sign and send out a letter that doesn't say exactly what he wants it to say. It also reflects his attitude of the whole Mueller Report in general, since by his own admission, he never really read it through. What Mueller needs to do is meet behind closed doors with the Republicans in the House. Now Jordan, Meadows, Nunes, and King need not be invited. But McCarthy needs to be there and a several others. Mueller needs to sit down with them and go over the report, and answer their questions. He needs to explain the law and what's at stake for our Democracy, so they will get on board with impeachment. He needs to do the same with GOP Caucus in the Senate excluding Tom Cotton, McConnell, Graham, and a couple others. And he also needs to very quietly meet with three or four of the big donors. I think that reporting to them will change some hearts and minds. I know. I just dreaming.

Rich lawyers like Barr ( he was being paid more than $1Million + a year at his law firm, )they don't eat at restaurants like regular people. THey have private clubs and cabinet secretaries have privileges at officers clubs and other places out of the public eye. Hell, my cousin worked in the office of the Inspector General when Reagan was president (he's dead now) and when he got up high enough he'd take us to some Fort WTF ever to swim and golf, etc. So if a high ranking civil servant had access to that stuff, you better believe the Attorney General does. And Senators can pretty much go anywhere they want as far as clubs go. There are private clubs all over Washington D.C. The ones you catch out are the Congressmen, and Senators when they go home to their districts/states. Why doesn't Crooked Hillary lay the blame where it belongs? She has said nothing about the classified documents hacked by foreign intelligence agencies from her laptop, meetings with campaign donors while Secretary of State, , the corrupt practices of the Clinton Foundation, or the secret high-paid speeches to Wall Street firms who she voted to bail out while Senator. Does she think these had nothing to do with her defeat?

Most intelligent people don't feel the need to drive across three state lines, wait in a security line for hours, climb to the top of an un-air-conditioned county fair stadium and sit on a hard wooden stadium bench in order to choose an effective leader. Do they do the same thing when choosing a dentist? Or plumber?

Put up or shut up time for Mueller. Is Barr the liar or is Pelosi.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham sent a letter to special counsel Robert Mueller on Friday asking whether Mueller felt Attorney General William Barr misrepresented their phone conversation in his Senate testimony this week.
Dear Mr. Mueller:
Thank you and your team very much for the professional and thorough manner in which you conducted your investigation. I appreciate the service you've provided the country now and throughout your entire life.
On the eve of Attorney General Barr's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, several news outlets broke a story alleging that you believed Attorney General Barr?s March 24, 2019, letter to this Committee ?did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance?of your investigation. Of course, Attorney General Barr has since released your report to the public, including your executive summaries, with redactions deemed necessary by both you and the Department of Justice, and testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
In response to questions by Senator Blumenthal, the Attorney General testified in essence that you told him in a phone call that you did not challenge the accuracy of the Attorney General's summary of your reports principal conclusions, but rather you wanted more of the report, particularly the executive summaries concerning obstruction of justice, to be released In particular, Attorney General Barr testified that you believed media coverage of your investigation was unfair without the public release of those summaries.
Please inform the Committee if you would like to provide testimony regarding any misrepresentation by the Attorney General of the substance of that phone call.
Thank you for your prompt response.
Lindsey 0. Graham Chairman
cc: The Honorable Dianne Feinstein

Bimbos and golden boys in the media mention Lindsey Graham all day long. That includes MSNBC and CNN. "Lindsey says this, Lindsey says that". Not one Republican Senator or House member shows disagreement. Even Democrats are guarded in criticizing Graham's behavior.
Not everybody in South Carolina finds Graham endearing. There's no primary challenger. The Democratic Party in SC is weak, inept, and disorganized. A couple of largely unknown African-American citizens are "thinking about it". You won't see Perez here looking to build a party. Democratic presidential candidates are visiting the state for the early primary. After that, none will be seen again for four years. While 35% of the state's Democrats are white, candidates do the same old circuit of black college, mega-churches, and historical sites. They largely ignore predominantly white communities and venues. Graham has immense campaign cash stashed from the Koch Bros and other wealthy donors. He has NRA and that "Russher" oligarch money. He's a favorite of any corporate interest profiting from military spending. State media covers little to nothing that's negative about Graham. Graham needs to go. He is destructive for democracy. Finding someone formidable to take him on aggressively, is not there currently. Yes, the state is full of 'deplorables' as are most states. At least the Democrats in some other red domains will offer Senate candidates that will make commendable efforts.

Also, the use of the music in public very much does require royalties to be paid, so The Stones do earn money from the songs being played. There is no love lost between The Stones and The Clown, since Keith Richards is on record as having considered stabbing him at one point.

How did Putin give us Trump, with a few Facebook ads that no one paid attention to? Here are a few of the real reasons Trump won:
3/4 of Americans thought the country was heading in the wrong direction. 70% of Americans believed that Hillary Clinton was dishonest and corrupt. Donald Trump talked about real issues, like jobs, trade, and illegal immigration. Hillary Clinton ran an issue-free campaign. Her campaign actually contacted focus groups to find the answer to why she was running for President at all. "It's my turn, I'm entitled" was not going to play well, and it didn't. Democrats were overconfident. The public isn't buying what the Democrats are selling.
by Anonymous | reply 530 | May 3, 2019 10:46 PM |
R526 but it's more than that. I guess it isn't a crime but what also really needs to be investigated is the synchronization of Russian social media disinformation spewing colluding with right-wing US media. Haven't you noticed that in the last few years they are both saying the same type of nonsense? Yes Russia should be held accountable for what they did but their fake news smear campaigns against Obama and Hillary wouldn't have become "a thing" had right-wing US media not taken those fake stories and run with them. Fox blew up all those stories from Hillary's emails to Obama's birth certificate to everything else you can imagine. The mainstream media does not do a good enough job calling them out. They refute them but how often do we hear about the Russians and right wingers working together? Not much.
We haven't heard the nature of those Assange-Hannity twitter dms.

The media didn't create-create Trump. They hyped the Trump brand so the general public would be aware of it. It's like saying that the media created Dell Computers because of airing "Dude, you got a Dell" commercials.
The news media is advertizing the Trump brand. And we willingly consume by paying attention to his latest shenanigans and react and try to figure out how to deal with him now after whatever stunt he pulled now.

For crying out loud Hillary handpicked Trump to run against. Her pied-piper strategy gave her the opponent she most wanted. She dug her own hole and jumped into it.

He was a blowhard, phony-baloney "billionaire" long before The Apprentice, r533. The media has been obsessed with this fraud since the 1980s.

Putin made it happen, r536. Don’t overestimate HRC’s power & underestimate Putin’s.

TY R520! Wish someone anyone that's a true reporter/journalist would try to figure out why Lindsay did the quick-switch to tRump and what is being used for favors/blackmail.
He's become more ass-kissy and unbelievable.

I cant keep up. Bernie's honeymoon in the USSR was news to me, but what, if any, significance does it have?
by Anonymous | reply 540 | May 3, 2019 11:55 PM |
Trump, Sanders, and Stein were Putin's troika in '16.
If you are a BernBro, then don't complain about Russian interference and be asking for sanctions.

Putin started his career in the KGB. He's a trickster and player exploiting other people's, and foreign governments', weaknesses.
I have no doubt that the GOP was deep into election fraud since the GWB, jr. days and Putin was aware of that and using their greed and desperation for power to his own advantage targeting individuals and groups (like the NRA) to rope them in and do his bidding.

The Dems need to get Trump's financials which will prove Abuse of Power - using his position of POTUS for personal profit.
by Anonymous | reply 543 | May 4, 2019 12:22 AM |
i can't wait to see Trump's reaction when his official financial reports are released and his wealth is just smoke and mirrors and Putin, via Deutsche Bank, ows him Trump will go berserk, because he can't stand to be seen like a loser and failed businessman.

For crying out loud, R536, you are the slowest, most ridiculous troll we have here on DL. I love how triggered you are and how you just can't keep yourself out of these threads. You whine and complain that these threads have been pointless and yet, day in and out you're in here. I wonder it must be like to be as dumb as you are and not know how mentally slow you are?
by Anonymous | reply 545 | May 4, 2019 12:30 AM |
look for the right wing media to start viciously attacking Letitia James especially as her numerous investigations conclude and Trump is charged. Plus she's got his financial records
by Anonymous | reply 546 | May 4, 2019 12:31 AM |
I've said it many times, if the elected politicians did the fucking shit they said they were gonna do, Donald Trump would not be president today. These cunts need to take a hard look in the mirror, they did it to themselves. Serves them right, most of them spent more time enriching themselves and their families than doing the work for "the people".

My guess is that the financial records will be leaked before the unredacted Mueller report and both will be lethal to Trump's ego.

sorry ^^^^^the call between Mueller and Barr^^^^^
by Anonymous | reply 573 | May 4, 2019 1:35 AM |
Grahams invite is a litmus test. If Mueller is willing to contradict Barr’s testimony about the phone call, they know he is likely to be hostile toward them for everything. If Mueller accepts the invite, look for Barr to not allow Mueller to testify.
by Anonymous | reply 574 | May 4, 2019 1:41 AM |
But what Barr actually do to stop Mueller, R574, apart from issuing a threatening letter? Barr isn’t going to comply with established formalities and norms, and probably not subpoenas either. If Barr doesn’t follow the law, why should anyone?

[quote]The question was Did you tell Putin not to meddle in our next election? He finally answered with We didn't discuss that. Yeah, right.
If, after being asked one time whether he talked to Putin about fixing the next election, the answer was anything other than an instant and resounding "No, of course not.", he should immediately be impeached, convicted, and arrested for treason. The fact that it took several times for him to even respond and then he didn't fucking deny it is unconscionable.
