With other hoaxes, usually its just graffiti or vandalism. And since this is the age of video, most of these were caught on tape almost immediately. It takes maybe a day or two and wastes maybe one detective's time. There's usually not assault involved. First mistake was making it more serious than vandalism. Second, should have vandalized his own car or property near no video cameras. This would make it extremely hard and put pressure off of police. Vandalism isn't high on the priority list. Third, he put WAY too much pressure on the Chicago PD and the city itself to the point where they had to find out who is responsible. Cops have the resources to solve basically any crime, but like medicine, they use triage. Unfortunately, with one of the highest murder rates in the country, he took detectives working important cases for weeks on some bullshit. He would have gotten the same amount of publicity, but he wanted to amp it up massively.

The problem was he hyped it up SO much that the police couldn't just ignore it. That and Chicago cops have a terrible rep with the black community. There was 0 possibility that, politically, the Chicago police department could ignore this case. So they had to go digging. 12 fucking detectives were put on it. Out of hundreds of hours of video footage there were only two people seen walking away. This should have been the first giveaway there's something fucked about this.

Also, nobody really thought about it with any sort of logic. It was -20 that day. First, why were two MAGA hat rednecks, roaming the streets with a rope ready and bleach in a vacant neighborhood, known mostly for the homeless in -20 weather? Were they just looking for somebody randomly on the coldest day instead of getting drunk in a bar or at home somewhere? Second, knowing Chicago is huge with gun crime, these guys didn't bring a weapon when they were going to rope a random person? Third, how did they even know he was gay or even who he was? Empire isn't that popular. Did they just watch it one night and Google this random C-List actor? Why in the ever-living fuck would they care? The case made no fucking logical sense. And anyone who defends him is an asshole, they should be baying for this cunt's blood, because this will destroy any narrative for 'listen and believe' which is wearing people's patience thinner by the day. But no, hold up this nobody whose career was dying until this happened and try to defend this.

A source told The Post that the interview came about because the “Empire” star was “adamant” about appearing on “GMA.”

He specifically requested that Roberts handle the interview because the two knew each other from when she appeared on an episode of “Empire” that aired in April, according to The Blast.

Smollett has claimed he was attacked in Chicago on Jan. 29 but suspicions have surfaced that he paid two brothers to stage the assault.

The veteran broadcaster probed Smollett about his allegations in many different ways during the interview that aired Thursday, but he maintained that he was a victim.

During the sit-down, Smollett also tamped down doubts over his account of what happened.

“At first it was the thing of like, listen, if I tell the truth then that’s it because it’s the truth,” he said at the time. “Then it became a thing of, like, how can you doubt that? How can you not believe that? It’s the truth.”

On Monday, Roberts addressed the growing controversy surrounding Smollett’s story.

A grand jury will begin hearing evidence as early as Tuesday that could result in felony charges against Smollett, TMZ reported. He could be charged with filing a false police report.

Nobody knows the actual damage caused- the opportunity cost of using all of these investigators on this case prevented them from solving other crimes-- so nobody really does know the damage done here (and the cops sure won't tell us that!).

Jussie told the cops the two guys on the security footage were the men who attacked him. It’s verifed that those two men are the Nigerian brothers. Jussie has admitted he’s friends with the two brothers and one is his personal trainer. Jussie refused to press charges on them. There’s no way innocently explain these facts away.

But given how sloppy they have all been I have zero doubt there are plenty of texts between them laying the whole plan out.

If Jussie’s plan was to try and throw them under the bus and claim he was an innocent victim of an attack by them he missed it when he refused to press charges. He didn’t press charges only because he knew these guys have a ton of evidence that can prove he planned and plotted the attack with them. If he had thought it was at all possible to blame them for everything, he would have done it.

Jussie is fucked. The one thing he could have tried to save face was that his friends attacked him for some strange reason and he didn’t recognize them. But he was too scared to even try that because of the evidence they have to prove he’s lying.

I’m sure his lawyers are pulling their hair out trying to come up with a defense strategy besides making him shut the fuck up. The cops slowly let Jussie ruin or refute every viable defense for the “attack.”
