Oh, I can believe that Hollywood insiders didn't give a rat's ass about the sexual harassment or assaults on wannabes or low-level workers, it seems to be a callous, competitive, hierarchical culture, where success is the only think that's valued and failure is punished professionally and socially. These "insiders" see themselves as being in the inner circle and surrounded by people desperate to get in, and they undoubtedly regard the outsiders as too unsuccessful to have any value, therefore they're treated with contempt. Abusing them is probably seen as normal, because so many of those desperate losers are scrambling for an opportunity to be abused by an insider, lots of them will beg for the opportunity to be used and abused by someone with power!

A lot of the #METOO was centered around actual insiders being used and abused, apparently that's considered morally objectionable. At least by those suffering the abuse.

Hollywood's not the only place with predatory men in power. Most people don't feel like they have the power to do much about it--gossip is just gossip, people aren't going to risk their careers to out someone on unsubstantiated rumors. I expect most people just kept their head down and tried to stay out of the way--because that's what people without power tend to do.

And power is relative--both Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd were successful actresses and Harvey did a hell of a lot of damage to both of their careers because they said no--and not only were they actresses with careers, they were actresses with family connections. Salma Hayek got an Oscar nom for Frieda, but was scrambling for decent roles afterwards--no wonder she got knocked up and bagged her billionaire. And said nothing 'til the other stuff came out. And, again, she had connections at that point in her career and Weinstein was still really abusive.

Not everyone is up to the fight, most people just want to do their work.
