He can act so very well when he is interested and enthusiastic, and should have received nomination attention for some of his previous work in OL, but it seems to be just another day in the office now (not helped by lousy scripts that downplay his role into a caricature in favor of super Claire - yawn, Ron Moore's obvious dislike of him, laughable wigs etc.). And of course the chronic pressure of closeting. Shame.

It's such a shame he sold his soul to HW. As for Bond another actor by the name of Richard Madden is being tipped to play him, he is also a scott from Glasgow. I don't know if you've heard of him from the otherside of the pond.

r25 There was a very insightful interview-article done about him at about the time he was cast as Jamie Fraser in which he called himself an introvert and the interviewer observed that he was "shy." I thought it was good. I'll try to find it. There is also a good one from the early days with the NY Times where he talks about being on the shy and reserved side. You can still read that one by searching his name on the NYT website.

Here's the article. I hope I posted it right. It's kind of ironic in light of how things have gone; but what do they say about first impressions and unguarded statements being the most accurate? This was from before he had the time or incentive to fully mask himself.

He worked his ass off promoting the dumb spy movie, which was not his big golden key for entering HW according to the box office numbers. It was not a real flop, and he probably earned a great amount of money with that. But the reviews were meeehh and in the not so many german reviews he was sometimes even not mentioned at all. And if he was mentioned, nobody of the critics thought, that Sam was the new, until now not discovered new rising star in HW. The movie is, as far as I know already available on DVD, even in Germany. So in summayry, it did not make him more famous like this unspeakable bad Hallmark movie from his earlier days. So, he moved on very quickly to SA for this franchise, comic adaption, to which I have no connecting, as many of his female "granny fanbase" has. As far as I know, he will be covered in prostetic and in some way playing the modern version of what Andy Serkins did as Gollum. In my opinion, he is the replacable guy wrapped in Latex, fitted with all those dots, acting in front of a green screen. So, this will nothing do for his carreer either.
