r125 Apparently Chicago don't announce actor cancellations until a week before the event. They use the big names to pull in the crowds then......no refunds, it’s in the small print. Is possible Sam cancelled both together, but only one announced. I can’t see him coming back from SA for Chicago and going straight back after a couple of days. Bloodshot seems to be off schedule already and a role has been recast, so if I was a gambler I’d bet on a no show at any con.

Whilst I don’t fully agree with you r131, you may have a point. I think he may be over cons generally and not necessarily cast status. He wants to be a ‘movie star’. He’s two more seasons to film and with them come cons. I can see his future hiatus being filled with movie roles. Unfortunately signing up for cons, when you have little expectation of attending is leaving fans out of pocket and disgruntled. Swanning around on IG stories isn’t helping your look.

Playing hard to get once your name is out there is an important step to being in demand. He didn’t show for a con with the cast in Rome and then appeared by himself a couple weeks later to make it up to the fans. That was a good PR move that gave him the spotlight. He’s smart and ambitious.

I am sorry but in true business you confirm those commitments up front when signing the contract. I have signed many a business contracts with caveats for future dates I have commitments (weddings, etc). If they deny you the time off you already know 6 months out signing the contract and can let people know you can’t make it. This last minute informing those Con people is BS.....PS. SDCC had Tons of A Listers there, cast of Walking Deas, Guardians Of Galaxy, Wonder Woman, and they seemed to have been available sans scheduling issues...

I went to the NJ Outlander Convention. It was my first-ever entertainment convention of any kind. This thread is not about the cons so I will leave out my general comments; but wow....there really are some humorless, obsessive fans out there. I was a little shocked at the rudeness of a few people. It was odd.

As regards Sam Skyping in...it really went well, was extremely well-received, and lasted more than an hour. He took sooooo many questions and was funny and thoughtful. Yes, I was (and am still) disappointed not to see him in person, but this was a good effort. His appearance was a surprise and the crowd ate it up. Considering that he is Skyping with the fans from next week’s wizard world con, it made a difference to those attending this con that the effort was made...and from what we understood, this was his idea.

I've expressed my doubts before about OL being renewed for season 5 and 6 in previous threads. If season 4 is unsuccesful, I believe they would still cancel the confirmed two new seasons anyway.

I think outlander has run its course, for a lot of fans, for Ron Moore and the acting talent. There isn’t the same excitement and anticipation about S4, and it’s later than normal. No nominations either - not sure if it was eligible for PCAs as no new episodes yet in 2018??? Frankly, the book series could’ve stopped there too, the main story is done by book 4 with the family reunited, most of the rest is money spinning drivel. However, it’s a secure job for the cast and crew, Sam fears redundancy, so he will probably shill it to high heaven, bringing back on board all sides of the fandom, with some cute interaction, a new blonde, a gay publication interview (more sensitively done) and the NY con.

In other news: The Spy movie has been nominated for a fan voted comedy movie award, are the outlander fans voting in droves again? I think will be interesting to see if it wins anything, without OL fans it won’t, the reviews aren’t great nor are the box office receipts, but are they now disillusioned enough to stop pressing the buttons.

The timing seemed super awkward and PR-driven. A gay denial statement the day before the TSWDM premiere? Re publicists, while there are a lot like JA, who seems to be quite willing to encourage clients that they need her and need to sell out their sexuality for success (and get her the big $$$), there do also seem to be publicists who are happy to help gay clients without any agenda of keeping them in the closet and controlled - for instance, Howard Bragman of 'Where's My Fifteen Minutes?' book fame. Also Stephen Huvane and Simon Halls (Slate PR), and ILDK Media (I haven't done an in-depth search but I am sure there are quite a few more). Sam may have been set up with Miss 'I'm out but you get in the closet and stay there' Allen by Starz, or he might have been attracted by the big names that she certainly does seem to be able to get onto her client list, and her name is very well-known.
