I like the Celtic Cross because the positions give a good starting point to apply the card meanings. The bottom card represents the unconscious/unknown and is often the most crucial card in the reading.

Hi R94! Well, we didn’t have an argument, exactly, no. We live far away from each other but formerly had a very close, engaged relationship via phone, text and email. He is single, much younger, and came to visit me and my family early this summer. After that, he started acting weird and told me he was going through a crisis but refused to tell me what...eventually, I realized it had something to do with me. We talked about it a little and it seems that he is upset because we can’t ever be each other’s primary relationship. Then he ghosted me a week or so later. We work for different companies that do business together so I asked him to have someone else work with me...he was pretty resistant but I insisted. During this exchange he said the lines had been blurred (they hadn’t, the relationship was completely non-flirtatious and chaste) and he felt uncomfortable. Just not sure where this is coming from and why now....the situation is what it always was and we’ve been tight for years. Well, we did eat several meals together and I did a reading for him (yes, I read Tarot but have no objectivity about this subject, I’m too hurt) which turned out to be about his dad. Like any close relationship we have had our ups and downs but always worked them through. The relationship was very important and for that reason, passionate in a platonic way, and he is a sensitive guy. Wow, white tablecloth! No, I don’t think there was ever a tablecloth, though. The conversation was on the phone about a month and a half after he went home. A few months ago I asked the cards how to deal with my flame burning for an old crush (several years old, now), maybe get ideas on letting it go for good. I felt halfway over it when I posed the question, but also bothered and frustrated by the memory of him (we knew each other as kids) and all those "what ifs" and worn-out fantasies. I don't believe I even really care about him or like him anymore, it's just a symptom of living for me now--one of those lingering, unspoken reactive infatuations like a chronic twinge.

In my desperation for a new solution than pining and elaborate fantasising I did a Cross (a big and confusing spread for me, I'm used to loose 1-3 card quickdraws), for which I pulled The Empress as my first card/personal signifier and The Moon as the second/his signifier. After that I drew Temperance and The World, and the last card I drew was The Sun. My notes and books suggested that this was indicative of a "new day" for our relationship (more like a non-relationship, now, as we haven't spoken in 3 years) and that once some time elapsed and a certain emotional obstacle on his part cleared we could explore any mutual feelings. I didn't find this all too illuminating or encouraging given how things stand between us (weird strained surface friendliness on the rare occasion we meet, as our families are close) and in my ire just swept them off my table and forgot about it, iirc. I still think and fantasise about him in bored quiet moments, and I really want to stop and move on from fixating. Can anyone give me a fresh perspective, tarot-wise?

Scratching my head a bit about the fighting, as everything has been calm within the team, but you may be on to something with outside forces. No, there’s no one to help me at all because we live in a town where we don’t know one single other person. My sibling’s health continues to decline and I fear I won’t be able to do everything on my own but their entire family refuses to get involved or help in any way. Their family is full of self absorbed, narcissistic people and they just don’t care. Nothing’s ever going to change that as far as I can tell.

I’ve been out of the workplace a long time but need to get a job. I’m very worried about my own old age because it looks like I’m going to spend every dime I have on this person. I don’t have any faith I can get any kind of decent job because of my long absence in the workplace.

This whole situation is very isolating, depressing and frightening. I’ve tried again and again to make friends here with no luck. I’m frustrated because a number of things changed for me over the past several months (social falling out, break up of sorts with no new love interests) that made me consider moving but I decided to stay in my current location for reasons related to career advancement and otherwise personally improving myself. Despite wanting to think that this will pay off, at best things have been moving too slowly for my liking and at worst I’m in an environment that feels challenging to put up with and is psychologically exhausting.

I work in an office where people have openly belittled me and talked about me behind my back in unflattering ways, among other things and I feel like even if that’s stopped it’s hard not to think about it. I have an elderly relative living in a home I own very nearby. She recently appears to be suffering from dementia. She has become irrational and extremely paranoid, she thinks I am out to get her and I can’t interact with her any more because she becomes extremely abusive and hysterical. Hi Novice, R420 here. I just talked to a Social Services worker who says they won’t do anything. There is no one who has power of attorney or any authority over her. I talked to a family law attorney and an elder specialty firm and they won’t take it. They only do abuse cases.

She and her family want me to keep her rent free in my house until she dies. She needs constant care and can’t live alone, but I won’t take the abuse any more.

What do I do if an elderly relative with dementia is dumped on me by her family? (More inside)

She is coherent enough to meet the minimum requirements of the authorities, but can’t take care of herself and suffers from paranoid delusions that various people are out to get her. I’m worried about my legal exposure as she harasses people she has delusions about. She wants to sue them. Her relatives absolutely refuse to do anything for her or get involved in any way. Nothing can be done legally to make them.

She retired to a town far from family and friends and there is no one willing to take over her care. She is losing touch with reality and the local authorities are trying to pressure me to get a power of attorney over her because there is no one else, but I don’t want it because she is irrational, uncooperative and abusive. Her doctors probably do not have the full picture but no one is allowed to tell them without her permission, which she will never give.

She lives in a house I own and doesn’t pay rent. I would like to get someone else to take control but no one will do it. Social Services just told me today that if she can follow a conversation at all (she can) they can do nothing. It’s now at the point that I can’t even enter the house and she can’t live without assistance.

generally speaking, any of them can serve as a warning depending on the context of the reading, the questions asked and the other cards around.

Some people feel the 3 of swords (heartbreak, sorrow), the 10 of swords (finality), the 5 of coins (poverty, lack) and the tower (tearing down) are "bad" cards. But it depends on the context.

Some other people don't like the devil (obsession, material desire) or the hanged man (surrender).

Others are convinced the entire suit of swords is "bad news".

Look at the cards around the signifier card (if you use one), how close/far away the "undesirable " card is from the seeker and cards around the "undesirable " card.

Sometimes they tell us that we have avoided something undesirable. Or warn us that our choices can lead to an undesirable outcome if we don't wise up.

The thought occurs to me that I should let people know the books I use and the spreads since some have asked questions.

I prefer using the rider Waite tarot deck because I have used it since forever. It was the deck my aunt used and my first deck. I have several decks that I bought because they were pretty or came with a book I wanted. But to read here on this forum, I use rider Waite.

I use 2-3 books also. I have read many but only use 2 to consult. Both of them are literally falling apart and need replaced. The first one is "Mastering the Tarot" by Eden Gray.

The second is "how to use tarot spreads" by Sylvia Abraham.

The third is the book insert in the rider Waite deck.

I also use the spreads that someone posted up thread from a website. It depends on the question.

I don't have any issue with reading a spread from someone else or using a website like tarot.com for readings. Sometimes it's a quick read although they don't use reversed cards so it can be tricky on occasion. And if someone has another interpretation of a spread I have done, I won't be offended if someone wants to add to it. Remember, I am a novice. I can always learn more.

Sometimes I also take into consideration what is happening astrologically. Mercury is starting his retrograde so some if you may be going back over bullshit you thought you had left behind.

I can't always read every night. Sometimes I am just tired and reading makes me sleep like a rock.

I appreciate how sporting everyone has been with their questions. Remember, everything is subject to change because we all have free will. And I'm just the messenger. It's not really me. I am just the fingers on the keyboard.

R412 here. I didn't really ask for any specific answer, but after writing to you and thinking about it afterwards, it is just as you said. There is something weighing on me and the reading seems to be about that specifically.

In June I injured my hand in a bad fall, or more precisely, my fingers. Initially, my little finger was dislocated, but while I was showering to clean up to go to the doctor, it popped back in, and I could move all of my fingers after that. I guessed that nothing was broken, so I didn't go to the doctor, which was a mistake. Later, the bruising and swelling got real bad and I couldn't use my hand at all. I eventually went to an urgent care facility a month later rather than my regular doctor, which was another mistake. I went there because my mother found out through my sister that I'd hurt myself, and I wanted her to know that nothing was broken right away.

Even at this point my fingers, including the middle finger were still badly bruised, but nothing was broken. Up to this point I had been pretty careful with it. However, The doctor didn't say to not use my hand, so I started to use it even though it hurt because I thought it would be beneficial. This was another mistake., but I only found that out when I went on the internet over three months after the injury and looked up finger injuries. According to what I read, my fingers should have been in splints for six weeks. So I should have gone to the doctor's right away. Both the doctor and my mother were both right about that.

If I had, there would be more of a chance that I wouldn't be having the problems I am now. What I probably have is called boutonnière’s deformity. My fear is that it will get worse, like the pictures I saw. Currently, the little and ring fingers on my right hand are somewhat bent and I cannot make a fist. The main problem is that it is hard to grip things with my right hand. This situation has been dominating my physical and mental life for months, but I wasn't consciously thinking of this when I simply asked about my current situation.

It came to me that my injury might be what the reading was about, as I was writing to you, when I realized that the knight of swords was probably a surgeon (literally a knight of swords), and the choice that the Moon card revealed I had made was to let nature take its course rather than seek medical treatment right away. It was the knight card that threw me because it seems so specific while I was expecting something in general. The other things I read the card indicated, was a battle, which I now take as surgery and that it would be successful, but I don't really want to hear I need surgery.

All this while I've been going back and forth with myself with going back to the doctor. If surgery is indicated, I will go back and forth about that. I don't really want surgery, but I've almost made up my mind to see my doctor and see what he has to say, then I'll take it from there. The injury and the aftermath are all the result of my own carelessness and stupidity, so I really blame only myself for this. I thought if I ignored the problem, it would take care of itself, so your interpretation of something being hidden was me hiding from the truth about what I've been doing or mostly not doing about this.

It depends on the question what each card represents.

If it's a general question. I pull 6 cards. 2 past, 2 present and 2 future.

Sometimes, I lay them out 2 over 2 and read left to right. That's the simplest way.

Sometimes I lay the cards out like the first 6 cards in the Celtic cross reading. From what I have watched of some of the YouTube readers on the "predictions " thread, they also use this method or do a full Celtic cross. The positions of the first 6 cards are read the same as the Celtic cross (if you are familiar with that reading. If not, just let me know and I can position it out for you with a photo.)

If the question is specific, I use a specific spread. The book I mentioned up thread about tarot spreads is my go to. I have also used the various spreads you can find on the internet. TBH, I am not really particular about the spread, it is just based on the question.

Now, if you want to get really deep and play with the cards you have been drawn, you can move them all forward one position and see how that changes the message.

Also, one if the deep dive Celtic cross readings I have seen pulls the cards out of the spread after the initial read and separates them into past, present and future. This can be particularly revealing if the initial reading was unclear. But that can take a while because it is very in depth.

On thus thread in particular, I am just giving the down and dirty as I am pressed for time and people get anxious if I don't answer in a day or so.

But if you would like to learn, I can recommend some books and the page numbers. Many times you can get the books thru inter library loans.

Hi, Novice. Is there a way out of my current predicament?

My cat is an hour away from being euthanized (he has cancer[bold]s[/bold] and vomited blood overnight). Each three-card spread I've drawn since his steep deterioration has one grief card: 9 of Swords in the second position or 5 of Cups in the third. I'm having a crap week which is why I asked about getting out of a bad patch. We have a 19-year-old cat I was considering putting down for stage 4 kidney disease, it's hard to believe she's going to outlive the 15-year-old.

I am sorry to hear about your kitties, r590. It is so painful to watch a beloved pet decline. We feel like we should be able to do something.

It's true I have more love to give to the 19-year-old, and I may even foster senior cats for awhile, as we can't give ourselves the new and boisterous energy of a kitten, and the 15-20 years of commitment.

However he chooses to conduct his life with this malignant narcissist ex-wife is his choice but there is no reasoning with him. I'm not sure if he's capable of self reflection, only self destruction. This time I don't know who will be left to pick up the pieces. He's burned a lot of bridges with family members that care.
