Armie Hammer Part 12: I, Hammya

Armie contacts Woody Allen and lets him know that if he wants to recast and reshoot "A Rainy Day in New York" a la "September", he is available for the male youth role at a moment's notice.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Hammer tries to figure out how to add emojis to her colonoscopy footage.

Armie is going to have hard time being without Luca and Tmothée when award season is over. They are constantly showering him in praise; Luca probably made him feel like a really special actor with so much potential and talent blah blah and Timmy keeps talking about what an amazing person he is and what a great father and husband etc. and both are crazy about his looks too. I doubt Armie is going to find people who'll pander to his ego the way Luca and Timmy have.

by Anonymousreply 3January 20, 2018 5:46 PM

He's married to a professional panderer, so I'm sure he'll be just fine.

by Anonymousreply 4January 20, 2018 5:50 PM

I don’t think Armie is going to rate an Oscar nomination on Tuesday.

by Anonymousreply 5January 20, 2018 5:55 PM

He seems to be very self aware R3, he HALF jokingly says in this interview that he is riding on Luca and Timmy's coattails (and also sings a lullaby to his son)....

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 6January 20, 2018 5:57 PM

Thanks for posting that, r6. He's a great interviewee and you can tell he's very proud of this project (as he should be). I don't think he has any delusions that he's in the same orbit as Timothee in this film and he's clearly in awe of Luca and the fact that he got to work on a project with this type of artistic gravity. I personally haven't detected any arrogance or entitlement from his interviews or press junkets for this film. He may be thirsty (as most actors are), but it's charming, not grating.

by Anonymousreply 7January 20, 2018 6:17 PM

Whenever Armie is feeling underappreciated, Luca's warm embrace is only a plane ticket away.

by Anonymousreply 8January 20, 2018 6:29 PM

I just saw CMBYN. I loved it I just don’t get the sore Armie had on his side. What was the point of having that in the story ?

by Anonymousreply 9January 20, 2018 6:32 PM

The sore made sense in the book because Elio got a little jealous that the gardener tended to Olivers wound and later on during intimate scenes ELio made a point kiss and caress Oliver's wound.

by Anonymousreply 10January 20, 2018 6:59 PM

Also during their 1st kiss when ELio tried mounting Oliver he used the wounded an excuse to break the connection. The book is amazing.

by Anonymousreply 11January 20, 2018 7:03 PM

Am I wrong that this is mostly a one sided love affair? Armie’s reaction on the train seemed to me was he was feeling guilty.

Also Timmy’s father gives that great speech about how lucky the 2 guys but when Armie calls with the news the father says congratulations instead of this will break my son’s heart you bastard.

by Anonymousreply 12January 20, 2018 7:28 PM

Please read the book. Oliver was not feeling guilty he was conflicted. He was raised a certain way and being gay was not part of that reality. Plus their relationship started at the height of the AIDS epidemic even though the movie pushed the storyline I had three years. All of Oliver actions and pretentious prior to them getting together was to fight off the temptation he had for ELio. Remember him saying we've been good I want to be good but in the end he could not fight his desire for ELio.

by Anonymousreply 13January 20, 2018 7:40 PM

The fathers reaction on the phone call is very forced and over the top... and fake. But what else can he do? He’s ambushed by the call just like Elio and of course hads to say “congratulations”.

Also when they hang up the receiver both parents give each other a knowing and sorrowful look... that they knew this type of thing could be at risk of happening and that Elio will be hurt.

by Anonymousreply 14January 20, 2018 7:42 PM

The book is narrated only by Elio and most of their story happened when he was 17. Pretty sure from Oliver's perspective things would have looked very different.

by Anonymousreply 15January 20, 2018 7:46 PM

R12 my take was yes, Oliver really was falling in love with Elio but didn't know what to do with it. He had to leave and go back to school in New York, was probably not at all clear about what Elio's parents would think about him bedding down their son (although we later learn he was getting hints from Elio's dad that they approved), and for sure he knew his own parents would not accept a relationship like this at all.

The last shot in the hotel room in Bergamo on the day Oliver will leave for New York has him awake very early and with Elio still asleep... Armie Hammer handled this scene very well in my opinion. He has such a look of confusion, longing, helplessness, and what he knows will be the beginning of heartbreak for both of them as he watches Elio.

by Anonymousreply 16January 20, 2018 8:03 PM

Oliver says his girlfriend has "been off and on for a few years" during their phone call which clues us in on his struggles to put up a straight face for his parents, society, whatever, and that he didn't have any feelings of true love for the girl. She just an apparatus for the closet.

As others have mentioned here, he probably got back to New York and with AIDS quickly changing the landscape for what being a gay man meant, he succumbed to all the pressure and had a knee jerk reaction to get married as a way to "solve everything".

by Anonymousreply 17January 20, 2018 8:05 PM

Exactly. Because of his age the narrator was not 100% reliable. The parents however we really liked Oliver because they kept in touch with him throughout the years. Plus, he helped their son realize his true self. Very touching when ELio said in the book "I had choosen well". Part of me thinks a sequel would be nice to fill in some of the blanks left by the movie and the book.

by Anonymousreply 18January 20, 2018 8:06 PM

I haven't read the book in awhile and now my memories of it are somewhat supplanted by the story arc of the film, but isn't it revealed in the novel that Elio had a hand in choosing Oliver as the student who would come to stay that summer?

by Anonymousreply 19January 20, 2018 8:18 PM

R19 Yes. He helped the parents choose the students every year.

by Anonymousreply 20January 20, 2018 8:20 PM

Interesting because in the movie the Mother says next time it will be a WOMAN.

I think people will be talking about this movie forever. Judging by you guys of course the book is better. I downloaded it a a long time ago so I think I will finally read it.

by Anonymousreply 21January 20, 2018 8:22 PM

Yes ELio did have a hand in Oliver's selection. The movie reference that very well by showing how excited Elio was upon Oliver's arrival and his father mentioning his photograph.

by Anonymousreply 22January 20, 2018 8:23 PM

I've seen the film 7 times now (I know, MARY!) and have had the chance to pick up little details missed in the first viewing. In the background before the phone call you can barely hear the Mom saying "but she's the strongest by far" (meaning the female intern candidate and her resume)... so I don't think choosing a female had anything significant to do with the Elio/ Oliver situation.

Granted I have not read the book, someone correct me if I'm wrong and it was a reactionary choice in the book?

by Anonymousreply 23January 20, 2018 8:27 PM

I don't remember anything in the book about future students. There are mentions of a Maynard, a student who stayed with them before Oliver, who had a crush on Elio and Elio kinda didn't know what to with it. Even if by then he knew he liked boys.

by Anonymousreply 24January 20, 2018 8:30 PM

It's interesting that they chose to excise the neighbor girl with cancer from the film version. Her very special relationship with Oliver in the novel was something that Elio both envied and was in awe of. I know that it would have taken time away from the love story that was at the center of the film (rightfully so), but that was one of the qualities that really humanized Oliver in the book and it's a shame that we couldn't see a little more of that side to him in the film.

by Anonymousreply 25January 20, 2018 8:31 PM

r25 Vimini was the one detail I found a little cheesy and too fairy-tale like in the book. Like, really? a little genius girl who's dying of cancer and has the same birthday as Elio? BUT. I did like what you say, the relationship with Oliver humanized him a little.

by Anonymousreply 26January 20, 2018 8:34 PM

I agree about the cheese factor, r26, but it also accounted for some of Oliver's time when he was not with Elio, along with the poker playing (just briefly alluded to in the film, but was a bit more pronounced in the novel). I like that Elio witness Oliver's relationship with Vimini from afar and was sort of jealous of this young girl with cancer and the time she got to spend with Oliver. I can totally see why they cut her from the film though. It is kind of superfluous in hindsight, but it does show this lovely and compassionate side to Oliver from the very beginning.

by Anonymousreply 27January 20, 2018 8:39 PM

I'm glad they left a little girl out of the movie too distracting. Oliver massaging Elio's foot after the nose bleed was a way to allude to his compassion. I give the movie a B+ from the novel. I do wish that the love scene had been detailed as well as the morning after and they would've shown how they played footsie under the breakfast table. I'm really sorry Luca decided to cut the peach eating seen it was a pivotal part in their relationship.

by Anonymousreply 28January 20, 2018 8:50 PM

It's times like these when I bet he misses Timmy.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 29January 20, 2018 8:53 PM

R28 I read an interview with Timmy where he said that they did several takes of the peach scene and in some of them Oliver ate it and some of them he didn't and that the one the used for the film was simply the best one for Luca. After reading that, I get the idea that it was literally just about timing during the scene and physical improvisation between Timmy and Armie. The scene kind of naturally worked that way, and apparently that take was the best one.

by Anonymousreply 30January 20, 2018 8:58 PM

I think Luca made a wise choice by opting for the scene he did. The essence of the peach scene from the book is still there in that urgent and tender moment.

Granted, their relationship is definitely more physically intense in the novel on all levels (in terms of the raw sexuality and sensuality), down to them looking at each other's shit, which is gross, but it also really highlighted how much they absolutely desired one another on a visceral level. I thought the film did a good job at playing up the sensuality and hinting at the qualities of their desire to be together and merge, but kept it subtle enough not to let it become too gratuitous (not that I would have minded, but there is a sanitizing process that happens with most page to screen adaptations).

by Anonymousreply 31January 20, 2018 9:10 PM

Armie strikes me as one of those white guys that doesn't have a lot of close friends of color. Ironic considering he grew up in the Cayman Islands. He looked a bit awkward with the BOAN cast too.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 44January 20, 2018 10:46 PM

I don't think he looks awkward. He's just a white guy among a bunch of black people. He stands out the same way a black guy stands out in a largely white cast.

by Anonymousreply 45January 20, 2018 10:48 PM

He's awkward in the photo at R29 because they're all posing whilst he's just doing white guy polite smile.

by Anonymousreply 49January 20, 2018 10:58 PM

R12 no the love affair between Elio and Oliver was mutual but in many ways it was a doomed romance given that Oliver would leave at the end of the summer. Oliver being older likely with more experience and not being able to fully accept his sexuality is trying to stop himself (and failing) from falling in love with Elio. The novel does a better job than the film and building the sexual tension between Oliver and Elio and Oliver's attempts at trying not to be vulnerable. Luca G. says nearly 30 mins was cut from the film which included a bit more of Oliver's reluctance.

The novel goes much with how passionate and steamy their relationship was. In the novel Oliver eats the peach the Elio wanked with and they even watch each other shit (which I'm glad was cut).

by Anonymousreply 50January 20, 2018 11:27 PM

In the scene when Elio's parents hear from Oliver that he's just got engaged: the way they look at each other afterwards is no doubt largely because they are concerned that Elio will be very upset. But - and I haven't read the book - I also wonder if there is an element of the parallel with their lives, where the father has hidden his sexuality and got married. Oliver is about to do the same thing.

There was discussion on previous threads about the exchange near the end between Elio and his dad, and whether "does mom know?"...."I don't think so" referred to Elio and Oliver, or to dad's acknowledged feelings for men. I've little doubt it was the second, as it was pretty obvious that she was well aware of Elio / Oliver. But she's a smart woman, and I think the father is fooling himself if he thinks he has hidden his gay feelings from his wife all those years. I'd be surprised if she didn't strongly suspect. So the Oliver engagement would resonate with her as another woman being put in the position she is in, married to a gay or at least bi-sexual man. But as I say, haven't read the book so maybe totally wrong!

by Anonymousreply 51January 20, 2018 11:33 PM

R10 the kissing and the caressing of the wound could have been added to the story— I wonder why it wasn't.

by Anonymousreply 52January 21, 2018 12:00 AM

R51 You're not wrong. In the novel is also implied that Elio's mother knows what is going on between Elio and Oliver. The film does a better job with it and in fact I think she is the first one to suspect what is going on with them. In the scene where Oliver and Elio come down for breakfast the morning after they first have sex the look she gives them is priceless. Mama knows.

by Anonymousreply 53January 21, 2018 12:07 AM

R53 et al. could all of you posters take the Elio and Oliver discussions to the CMBYN thread??

by Anonymousreply 54January 21, 2018 12:08 AM
I loved it I just don’t get the sore Armie had on his side. What was the point of having that in the story ?

Vulnerability. Like Elio's nosebleeds.
I don't remember anything in the book about future students.

When Oliver comes to visit at Christmas (he just calls in the movie), they all sit around and discuss who will be the next student, as it is a tradition that the previous student gets to give their input about the candidates, but we never learn anything further about who was chosen.

We do learn that the student before Oliver, named Pavel, was pushing a friend of his for the position the year before - but Mrs. Perlman didn't like Pavel, she felt he was anti-Semitic and refused to have anything to do with his choice. Oliver was apparently not really a standout among the choices, but somehow it came up that he is Jewish - and Elio upon seeing his photo is secretly attracted to him, and pushes strongly for him to be the one. As he tells Oliver, 'I made sure they picked you.'

{quote]It is kind of superfluous in hindsight, but it does show this lovely and compassionate side to Oliver from the very beginning.

I also felt that it's a touch of foreshadowing about his paternal instincts/desire to be a father.
yeah i think the book makes it quite clear that the "does mom know?" question is about elio and oliver.

Yes, Elio's take on his father's answer makes it plain: "I don't think she does." [italic]His voice meant, "But even if she did, I am sure her attitude would be no different than mine."[/italic]

I totally get why people who have only seen the movie think Elio is asking whether Mrs P knows about Mr. P's past, though, because they played up considerably both Mrs. P's awareness of Elio and Oliver in the film AND made both she and her husband a bit more cheerleaderish about the relationship than they are in the book - so it seems less likely that Elio could even question whether she knows.

by Anonymousreply 63January 21, 2018 6:27 AM

One last note about this from me regarding the movie itself in this forum. In the screenplay which I am dying to read if anyone knows if it's available? The scene were ELio and Oliver are on the balcony talking about the fact that they were hiding that they liked each other the parents overheard them. Afterwords the parents went inside and made love. In a Q&A Luca said that scene was shot. When someone asked if it would be in the DVD he said maybe.

On Armie performance I felt his best scene was after their first time together when he thought Elio was rejecting him. The look of sheer panic and hurt was played really well. As well as his relief after giving Elio BJ showing him that Elio was still into him.

by Anonymousreply 64January 21, 2018 8:07 AM

Looks like a LOT of the links for the screenplay are dead, here's one that's still working for now:

Why I think Armie’s Oscar chances aren’t good and I hope I’m wrong. This movie makes you fall in love with Timmy and with Armie they make a great couple. The ending is Elio’s point of view so the phone call that devastates him we don’t get a reason why he does this you don’t feel very good about Oliver. Even though he has been great the whole movie you feel that bastard has broken his heart.

by Anonymousreply 67January 21, 2018 10:56 AM

R67 I don't think anyone here thinks Armie has any chance to even be nominated. However I don't understand your argument, this is about Armie's acting performance (and IRL connections), nothing else.

by Anonymousreply 68January 21, 2018 11:14 AM

Well, didn't we discuss in the previous threads that he could stand a chance to be nominated?

by Anonymousreply 69January 21, 2018 11:24 AM

Two more days and we will the nominations. Thanks for the screenplay it made the movies timing cuts make more sense. Unfortunately some of the things that were left out made all Oliver appear more human

by Anonymousreply 70January 21, 2018 11:44 AM

R67 "that bastard has broken his heart."

LOL! I wouldn't refer to a fictional character as 'bastard' I reserve that for real life 'bastards' like Trump, Sarah Palin, etc....There are far too many of them in real life; take your pick

But as I said earlier can this be taken to the CMBYN thread? This one is reserved for Armie 'The Man'

Incidentally, some people have commented on how uncomfortable he looks in the interviews that have surfaced about his new film. Well, he has said he wants to go down the indie route and go beyond his comfort zone, this could be the reason. He's pushing himself.

by Anonymousreply 73January 21, 2018 12:09 PM

This is my last comment about the movie even though I’m talking about Armie’s chances for Oscar.

Are we qualified to talk about Armie the man? Who here knows him? I will never join Facebook or twitter.

I meant you don’t have any sympathy (at least I dont) for Oliver at the end and many things have been left out that makes less human that translates to less Oscar votes.

You wouldn’t call the character in The Shape Of Things who gets a gun a bastard ? You wouldn’t call a racist cop who beats up and pushes an assumed gay out the window a bastard?

by Anonymousreply 76January 21, 2018 12:24 PM

I do have sympathy for Oliver, why wouldn't I? I perceive him as a fragile and conflicted gay man whose life in America is closeted and unhappy. But this is definitely a discussion for the CMBYN thread.

by Anonymousreply 77January 21, 2018 12:26 PM

It is not lazy writing. Many think Brokeback Mountain is the best gay film. My iPhone is messed up so that’s why I’m here. I just saw the movie and want to talk about it can’t find the movie thread. Unfortunately I have been told what happens in the book so it spoiled it a bit for me.

by Anonymousreply 87January 21, 2018 2:36 PM

Is Armie still taking acting classes? Seriously. He’s a limited actor now, but he could be so much better if he could learn to control his booming voice.

Usually I pay no attention to awards, but I am so invested in Armie getting a nomination on Tuesday, even though I suspect he won’t.

by Anonymousreply 88January 21, 2018 2:47 PM

R82 Armie never defended Woody Allen, and the cast of BOAN didn't know about Nate Parker's past until after the film was made.

by Anonymousreply 89January 21, 2018 2:52 PM

R81 it sounds like he represents capitalist oppression as opposed to just white oppression.

by Anonymousreply 90January 21, 2018 2:55 PM

I have the feeling the movie will be ignored. Maybe the only possible oscar nom and win will be Ivory. Michael Stuhlbarg could be nominated instead of Armie because he's a father figure older voters can relate better to,but they both risk to be snubbed for splitting the votes. I don't take for granted Tim's nomination and even so,he'll not win.

by Anonymousreply 91January 21, 2018 3:04 PM

It's the only film in contention for Adapted Screenplay that has a good chance of getting a Best Picture nomination. There is -100% chance it missed that category.

No one has ever been nominated for BAFTA, Golden Globe, SAG and won LAFCA + NYFCC and not been nominated for an Oscar. Hence Timmy would be the biggest acting snub ever if he didn't get in.

Since the extended lineup, no film has ever been nominated at BAFTA + PGA and not got a Best Picture nomination. Hence it would be the biggest statistical BP snub of the decade if it didn't make it.

Anything after those three categories is a question mark.

by Anonymousreply 92January 21, 2018 3:09 PM

*There is -100% chance it misses that category.

by Anonymousreply 93January 21, 2018 3:10 PM

I thought Stuhbarg was terrible with the exception of the speech. I was constantly aware he was playing a NICE guy and his beard was so distracting.

There is one thing I’m afraid of. Beisides maybe Dunkirk Name the only movie in award season that didn’t have a diverse cast. I could have sworn I read if a film didn’t have diversity it wouldn’t be considered at awards. I also haven’t seen the Jew hater movie. Are the rules different in Europe?

by Anonymousreply 94January 21, 2018 3:18 PM

Best Song for sure. Winning is the question mark.

by Anonymousreply 95January 21, 2018 3:20 PM

It gets away with having an all-white cast by being about bi/gay Jewish men.

by Anonymousreply 96January 21, 2018 3:22 PM

Adapted screenplay will win for sure. And that's it.

by Anonymousreply 97January 21, 2018 3:23 PM

R96 I’m sure they could have cast Mafalda as some sassy black actress. Like Mo’niqe or Leslie Jones....because diversity is important.

by Anonymousreply 98January 21, 2018 3:30 PM

Two noms most, Adapted and Lead Actor. Would be genuinely surprised if it got Best Picture.

by Anonymousreply 99January 21, 2018 3:34 PM

A black person in a small town in Italy in the early 80s would be ridiculous, let alone among wealthy Jewish snobs. Italians would have better reasons to be pissed off at the movie since most of the characters sporting an Italian name (Annella, Marzia, Chiara, Elio) are French or American actors.

by Anonymousreply 100January 21, 2018 3:36 PM

^^ "snobs" didn't mean to sound harsh, I actually love those characters.

by Anonymousreply 101January 21, 2018 3:36 PM

I think Chalamet will definitely get a nom because even if Oscar voters don’t like the movie, they can get away with omitting it for BP and still nominate Chalamet to look like they’re not purposely snubbing the film. Anyway he’s a nice Jewish boy who reminds Academy members of their own grandchildren.

by Anonymousreply 102January 21, 2018 3:37 PM

We really need to take our conversation to the CMBYN thread. We been filling up the Armie thread for awhile.

by Anonymousreply 103January 21, 2018 3:40 PM

Excuse me but who made you Julie from The Love Boat?

by Anonymousreply 104January 21, 2018 3:42 PM

R104 I don’t know...respect for the subject of this thread and the request of other posters who have asked, nicely, that we take our specifically CMBYN discussions to its other thread?

by Anonymousreply 105January 21, 2018 3:47 PM

R99 Why would you be genuinely surprised when statistically it's almost certain?

by Anonymousreply 106January 21, 2018 3:48 PM

Really Mrs H? What if she wants to be a diesel dyke? Don’t think you’ll be IGing her first day at motorcycle repair school.

You are a bozo if you think this won’t be nominated.

Maybe music will calm the savage beast or calm the need to control.

I left and came back and people were talking about the movie. Ok I’ll lesve again.

Final portrait is online at last...now i love Armie and all but Alberto Giacometti is the subject of one of the best classes I ever did and Rush is just one of my best childhood movie memories because of Shine. Seems like him and Armie did a great job but the movie direction from Tucci lacks balls and it's a pity as I also love Tucci.

by Anonymousreply 109January 21, 2018 4:14 PM

Did Armie have a prolbem playing a gay role again? He doesn’t seem to have the hang ups Jake G does maybe it’s too soon to tell.

by Anonymousreply 110January 21, 2018 4:20 PM

I commented it on an earlier thread but I think it's interesting that his best performances, have been in movies where he plays gay/bi men.

by Anonymousreply 111January 21, 2018 4:25 PM

His character's sexuality is only hinted at, in Final Portrait, but I'm sure he wouldn't have objected if there had been more than that. Jake G is a dubious (?) bachelor and Armie is a married father of two who looks as straight as he probably is.

by Anonymousreply 112January 21, 2018 4:26 PM

True R111 I loved him in J. Edgar, he was a charming and perfectly believable gay man in love.

by Anonymousreply 113January 21, 2018 4:27 PM

He prob would be great in straight sexual/romantic roles too if he actually took one.

by Anonymousreply 114January 21, 2018 4:28 PM

Armie got a nomination from the International Cinephile Society who are as snobby as their name sounds.

I never thought I'd see the day.

by Anonymousreply 115January 21, 2018 4:31 PM

I think the boredom that his personal life is has decreased his appeal a lot and limited him,I'm not pointing the finger at his wife or anything just speaking about marketability. It would be better if he kept his family life and work life separate, like any actor with ordinary partners do. What a waste of a career.

by Anonymousreply 116January 21, 2018 4:33 PM

His Sorry to Bother You costar Lakeith Stanfield is impressed by him.

by Anonymousreply 117January 21, 2018 4:38 PM

Chris Hemsworth also has a boring personal life and is much more popular than Armie.

by Anonymousreply 118January 21, 2018 4:50 PM

Because of Thor. And literally only that.

by Anonymousreply 119January 21, 2018 4:53 PM

Thor....goodness gracious what an artistic achievement!

by Anonymousreply 120January 21, 2018 5:36 PM

As I’ve said before, Armie needs to be cast in a superhero movie.

by Anonymousreply 121January 21, 2018 5:40 PM

Honestly, I couldn't picture Chris Hemsworth in anything else but Thor. Also, he doesn't seem very versatile in acting...

by Anonymousreply 122January 21, 2018 5:41 PM

R121 I kind of agree. I'm not dying to see him as a superhero but Chris Hemsewhatever is a more limited actor than Armie and the only reason he is relevant is because of his muscles and because he plays Thor which translates massive exposure because of fangirls and fanboys worshiping him.

by Anonymousreply 123January 21, 2018 5:42 PM

R122 he's as versatile as a Cossack boot.

by Anonymousreply 124January 21, 2018 5:43 PM

I don't want Armie being cast in yet another dire superhero franchise, and hasn't he said that he's fed up with that sort of stuff?

by Anonymousreply 125January 21, 2018 5:45 PM

He should go the indie route, but he needs a director like Luca in order to bring an acclaimed performance out of him.

by Anonymousreply 126January 21, 2018 5:51 PM

He would not have made a good superhero. He’s too pompous.

by Anonymousreply 127January 21, 2018 5:54 PM

Chris Hemsworth had so many flops that he should've been the subject of this Buzzfeed article about white guys getting second and third and forth and fifth chances. And he is a terrible actor.

by Anonymousreply 128January 21, 2018 6:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 132January 21, 2018 6:51 PM

Is Lakeith always quiet? I find him hot and it's not usual for me to look at another guy when Armie's on screen.

by Anonymousreply 133January 21, 2018 6:55 PM

Believe me it's better when LaKeith is quiet. He is weird dude; Jaden Smith levels.

by Anonymousreply 134January 21, 2018 7:01 PM

R98 Mafalda played by a local Luca did auditions for represents the working classes. Surely that's a point for diversity??

Gold Derby experts has moved him to #4 (from #5) on the odds list for nomination. He is also at #4 with the combined votes on that site. So he still seems to have a fairly good chance for a nomination on Tuesday.

by Anonymousreply 146January 21, 2018 10:19 PM

Don’t hold your breath.

by Anonymousreply 147January 21, 2018 10:22 PM

I think he has a very solid chance of being nominated, although they probably already have the award engraved with Sam Rockwell’s name.

by Anonymousreply 148January 21, 2018 10:25 PM

R141 "Sunday school cool" - so their kids go to Sunday school? Didn't realise they were that religious. Also, advertising where your kids are going to be every Sunday morning seems a touch reckless.

by Anonymousreply 149January 21, 2018 10:39 PM

Jeez. Sunday school? I wonder if Armie is truly okay with raising his kids religious.

by Anonymousreply 150January 21, 2018 10:43 PM

The kids are beyond cute but why dress them like props. Not surprised they go to church she comes off as a desperate housewives.

by Anonymousreply 151January 21, 2018 10:44 PM

R150 he was raised like that and look what a great relationship he has with his parents!

by Anonymousreply 152January 21, 2018 10:45 PM

R153 That thought has crossed my mind! Maybe not abducted, but I half think she wants a stalker to show she's made it. Like when she was in New York, she actually posted which hotel she was staying at - that seems utterly insane to me given the amount of crazies out there.

This award season all bets are off with so many undeserved winners. It’s like whoever messed up Presidential election is also messing with movie awards. The usual rules do not apply. I loved CMBY N it has made me an Armie and Timmy fan fan for life. It’s time to face facts. Hollywood did not embrace the film.

by Anonymousreply 158January 22, 2018 2:33 AM

He doesn’t look bad. Maybe he and Timmy have gone their separate ways and in real life Armie is the heart broken one.

by Anonymousreply 159January 22, 2018 2:35 AM

If that's looking like shit.

by Anonymousreply 160January 22, 2018 5:52 AM
Is Armie still taking acting classes? Seriously. He’s a limited actor now, but he could be so much better if he could learn to control his booming voice.

He said in a recent interview that he 'works with an acting coach', but it sounds like he does it on a one-to-one basis, not as part of a class. He also mentioned that he has a researcher that he works with for his roles. He used both for CMBYN.

by Anonymousreply 161January 22, 2018 6:46 AM

Of course, I’d expect him to have private lessons, rather than a class. Everybody would taping him with their phones.

A researcher? I’ve never heard of such a things, where actors are concerned

Do you have the link to that interview R161?

by Anonymousreply 162January 22, 2018 7:02 AM

What's the role of the researcher?

by Anonymousreply 163January 22, 2018 7:16 AM

Here's the link, r162. Armie says:
I have a professional researcher who I work with, and I have an acting coach that I work with, and we did a bunch of work here before I went. I went and just added on to that and just built it and built it and built it, and ended up coming up with this character that we felt was beautifully complicated and human.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 164January 22, 2018 7:20 AM

It's a great interview, r6. It's funny Armie mentions that one of Luca's tips at the after-dinner movie watching was about particular looks in the movies. For me it was Armie's facial expressions in the morning after scenes that were some of the best moments

by Anonymousreply 165January 22, 2018 7:34 AM

Thank you R164

So he went to an acting coach for the specific role of Oliver. And he did a good job, with some excellent moments, but also some self conscious wooden moments. I need to view Armie’s other movies, because I’ve never see an Armie movie before CMBYN.

And, this is going to sound mean, does anyone believe that Armie has read Proust?

by Anonymousreply 166January 22, 2018 7:45 AM

I don’t get why that sounds mean.

Thank you r171.

by Anonymousreply 172January 22, 2018 11:30 AM
And, this is going to sound mean, does anyone believe that Armie has read Proust?

It's possible...sometimes people who didn't take their formal education seriously attempt to self-educate later. For someone who's a high school dropout, he is pretty well-spoken. But in that interview he says only that he and Luca 'discussed Proust'...it could have just been Luca yakking about Proust and Armie listening and asking questions.

And LOL, r170...Armie will be handsome for many years to come, but for sure he'll never look like Oliver in the summer of 1983 again. DILF-hood is here to stay.

by Anonymousreply 173January 22, 2018 1:02 PM
I have a professional researcher who I work with, and I have an acting coach that I work with, and we did a bunch of work here before I went

So he's a rich boy who employs people to do all the work for him and he just does as they say? And even that didn't work as despite TWO professionals doing work for him, Luca still had to force a performance out of him.

by Anonymousreply 174January 22, 2018 1:20 PM

Any dreaded sequel would have to start with Oliver in his early to mid 30s and Timmy in his mid-20s in order for these two actors to pull it off. Part of me would like a sequel because I what to know more about these two lies especially all of Oliver's but there's a part that says leave well enough alone.

by Anonymousreply 175January 22, 2018 1:35 PM
But in that interview he says only that he and Luca 'discussed Proust'...it could have just been Luca yakking about Proust and Armie listening and asking questions.

You just know that as soon as Armie got out of that meeting, he took out his phone and googled "PROOST."

by Anonymousreply 176January 22, 2018 1:50 PM

Or more likely, texted his "professional researcher"

by Anonymousreply 177January 22, 2018 3:16 PM

I kind of want him to stop talking about how much help he needed for this role. I know it takes a village sometimes, but does anyone think that directors will start to assume that getting a good performance out of him is more trouble that it's worth?

by Anonymousreply 178January 22, 2018 3:24 PM

*than

by Anonymousreply 179January 22, 2018 3:29 PM

R178 I do think that the amount of help he's said he needed probably played a part in him not getting a SAG nomination - I doubt other actors think much of him given the amount of hand-holding he needs.

by Anonymousreply 180January 22, 2018 4:08 PM

I bet Nikkiwonder is the professional researcher.

by Anonymousreply 181January 22, 2018 4:09 PM

That would explain a lot R181

by Anonymousreply 182January 22, 2018 4:11 PM

Luca too a. Personal interest in Armie and kept on track.

by Anonymousreply 183January 22, 2018 4:18 PM

He needs Luca much more than Luca will ever need him. Perhaps, like a fellow DLer suggested, they'll end up having a rapport à la Visconti & Berger after all.

by Anonymousreply 184January 22, 2018 4:22 PM

I doubt SAG voters pay as close attention to his interviews as we do.

by Anonymousreply 185January 22, 2018 4:43 PM

They just didn't think his performance was that great.

by Anonymousreply 186January 22, 2018 4:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 187January 22, 2018 4:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 195January 22, 2018 10:45 PM

R195 why would that be ironic?

by Anonymousreply 196January 22, 2018 10:50 PM

You know buzz article 'white privileged guy', his people trying to make him happen, etc....and then it turns out he owes his career success to the blacks and the gays

by Anonymousreply 197January 22, 2018 11:54 PM

How stupid of me! I don't know why that slipped my mind. I was very active in the thread that discussed the Buzzfeed article. Thank you for not calling me an idiot and/or biting my head off.

by Anonymousreply 198January 22, 2018 11:59 PM

The casting isn't complementary. He's playing a cartoon of white privilege.

by Anonymousreply 199January 23, 2018 12:13 AM

I think the casting is complementary because of that. He's going to be doing the same thing in his upcoming Broadway play. One thing I like about Armie is he's not afraid to take on roles that call out straight white male privilege.

by Anonymousreply 200January 23, 2018 12:51 AM

Good point. He's a master of self-parody.

by Anonymousreply 204January 23, 2018 5:02 AM

In other words R203, the fact that Armie and Timmy are flying to Europe at this very moment and goofing off together on the plane (as shown in R202) means that Armie not "liking" Timmy's Woody Allen Instagram post from last week meant nothing... despite many people trying to weave a narrative that it meant they were on the outs.

by Anonymousreply 205January 23, 2018 5:05 AM

If I could talk to Armie I would tell him to lose the beard. Every bozo and his father has a beard.

by Anonymousreply 206January 23, 2018 5:07 AM

R204 Ok, just wanted to know when the IG story was posted. Thanks.
I kind of want him to stop talking about how much help he needed for this role. I know it takes a village sometimes, but does anyone think that directors will start to assume that getting a good performance out of him is more trouble that it's worth?

Apparently having an acting coach that you bring to the set with you is not unheard of...but people like DDL and Gary Oldman aren't doing it, you know? It's probably best not to blab about it too much. Although I've never heard an actor specifically mention hiring a pro researcher, actors do research for roles all the time, so I'm sure he's not the only one who uses such a person. But I don't really see why a researcher would be needed for the role of Oliver. Research what? 1980s closet cases?
Movie: Armie Hammer as Berger and Luchino played by?

And introducing...Luca Guadagnino.

(Elizabeth and Dakota can play some of the side pieces like Marisa Berenson...)

by Anonymousreply 208January 23, 2018 5:13 AM

So are we to believe that 'Armie in Wonderland' is now part of Luca's elite stable of actors? I don't see him paired with La Swinton anytime soon.

by Anonymousreply 209January 23, 2018 6:16 AM

Dakota Johnson is also in Luca's "elite stable of actors", so it appears Luca is not as discriminating as you might think

by Anonymousreply 210January 23, 2018 6:19 AM

Honestly, Dakota can’t act, why is she considered to be good by Luca? What does he see in her?

by Anonymousreply 211January 23, 2018 6:59 AM

Dakota appears to be Luca's hag - she seems to spend a lot of time with him aside from work. Sufjan Stevens mentioned that she was with Luca at his house when Stevens first met with him to talk about doing music for CMBYN - they had been at a fashion show together. And she was his date for the GGs.

by Anonymousreply 212January 23, 2018 7:05 AM

Luca loves Dakota. She was one of the first to see a finish cut of CMBYN @ Luca apt. I think Luca is impressed with offspring of famous people. Remember the Q&A when he got excited to hear tim dated madonnas daughter.

by Anonymousreply 213January 23, 2018 9:04 AM

by Anonymousreply 227January 23, 2018 1:10 PM

Funny thing is ATMITW is still performing terribly.

by Anonymousreply 228January 23, 2018 1:12 PM

Poor Armie - I do feel badly for him. If the film hadn't peaked too early his chances would have been better. When he didn't get a SAG nom after the GG, the writing was on the wall.

He and Luca can comfort each other.

by Anonymousreply 229January 23, 2018 1:18 PM

No Best Director for Luca. Considering how hard he worked to get this performance out of Armie, I think he at least deserves a nom.

by Anonymousreply 230January 23, 2018 1:19 PM

Shade ^^^

by Anonymousreply 231January 23, 2018 1:20 PM

I knew Armie chances for a nom were slim but considering who they nominated,he was royally snubbed. Very sad for him.

by Anonymousreply 232January 23, 2018 1:21 PM

As others have pointed out - Christopher Plummer was not nominated for his actual performance, and that sucks. He's a great actor, but that slot should have gone to someone else.

by Anonymousreply 233January 23, 2018 1:24 PM

Armie is only 31. With the right role (probably by Luca) he will have the chance again.

by Anonymousreply 234January 23, 2018 1:25 PM

True, Rockwell is pushing 50, and he's only now being acknowledged. Armie's still got a ways to go.

by Anonymousreply 235January 23, 2018 1:29 PM

But Sam Rockwell can actually act.

by Anonymousreply 236January 23, 2018 1:32 PM

So can Armie, so long as he's given something to actually do in a role.

by Anonymousreply 237January 23, 2018 1:33 PM

All the BSA nominees were at least 2 decades older than Armie.

I wonder what Armie is doing now? Is he weeping into Mrs H shoulder or Luca’s shoulder?

Luca. I bet that the smell of Luca, so familiar and inviting, comforts him.

by Anonymousreply 238January 23, 2018 1:34 PM

The Shape of Luca

Guillermo del Toro's sequel to The Shape of Water, where a mute heir falls in love with a half-human/half-orangutan

Timothee plays the sassy French maid ^^^

by Anonymousreply 240January 23, 2018 1:40 PM

Yeah, I know I'm in the minority here, but I really liked Sam Rockwell's performance. I usually do. I'm not surprised Armie wasn't nominated at all; but if he keeps working on his craft he may get there one day.

by Anonymousreply 241January 23, 2018 1:41 PM

I liked Rockwell in Moon, I didn't like him in Three Billboards but then again, I don't like anything about that movie.

by Anonymousreply 242January 23, 2018 1:43 PM

Armie Hammer is not Pia Zadora. He's actually been in other prestige projects before and has received high marks for past performances ('The Social Network', 'J. Edgar', 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.', and now 'Call Me By Your Name', etc.). Hopefully, he'll continue to pursue more creative and artistically challenging projects that will help him evolve as an actor.

by Anonymousreply 243January 23, 2018 2:00 PM

Rockwell was robbed when he did Moon,Moon was robbed as well and I love him as an actor so he's not the problem but Harrelson and Plummer noms are just ridiculous.

I think Armie can really act and with the right roles can raise the bar even more than this, but without a nomination or a smashing hit at the box office it's going to be very difficult for him to find someone who is eager to invest in him like Luca did and his next movies roles, which a part "Sorry to bother you" are pretty tame and standard to make any impact. He needs a fucked up movie, and embrace his own fucked up persona like someone like Jared Leto did. Leto has limited or questionable acting talent but did plenty of small (fucked up) roles and one flop after the other to try and get there, before getting the right one; and now he's got an oscar and a certain reputation (in good or bad)

Armie is missing that fucked up element that characterizes many actors who "have it" but never really "made it" have like Joaquin Phoenix for example. He's playing it too safe.

Hopefully after these couple of movies he already shot he will take other surprising roles to up the ante otherwise he'll be the eternal good guy/boyfriend/husband as support. I

I

by Anonymousreply 244January 23, 2018 2:04 PM

I didn't think his snub would get so much attention.

by Anonymousreply 245January 23, 2018 2:08 PM

There were a few notable snubs and surprise nominations this year. They're all getting a descent amount of press. Awards season was a bit of a mixed bag this year due to the current climate of inclusiveness.

by Anonymousreply 246January 23, 2018 3:40 PM

*decent

by Anonymousreply 247January 23, 2018 3:41 PM

I agree about a fucked up movie. Christian Bale was not thought of as more than a former child actor turned piece of beefcake until he did American Psycho. Armie won’t be able to create a good performance on his own unless he can tap into the Freudian mess beneath his golden boy persona, and build from that, rather than mimic other performers like he did with CMBYN. The ideal role for him would be something like Body Heat where he gets tempted into depravity, or something like dad in The Shining (the book not the movie) with a split personality. Or some sort of werewolf.

by Anonymousreply 248January 23, 2018 4:07 PM

Unfortunately, I'm not sure Mrs Hammer would let Armie make a fucked-up movie.

by Anonymousreply 249January 23, 2018 4:19 PM

I know he said that Mrs. Hammer doesn't want him doing intimate roles with women, but do you think that maybe a part of him thinks that if he goes all in for a particularly gritty role he may lose himself, and then ruin his marriage? Maybe he doesn't trust himself. He's already admitted to having problems controlling his urges, and as the kids get older Mrs. Hammer won't be able to follow him around everywhere keeping tabs.

Then he should just go do a procedural on CBS a la that Catholic nut Jim Cavezial.

by Anonymousreply 252January 23, 2018 6:00 PM

I think Luca would slowly lose interest in Armie if he went wild. Armie's restrictions arouse him because he wants to break down his barriers. But I agree it would be the best for Armie's career.

by Anonymousreply 253January 23, 2018 6:05 PM

Does Armand take his own career seriously? Because if he does, those limitations that his wife allegedly imposes upon him are ridiculous and he should dismiss them. And if he thinks he needs an acting coach, maybe he should do that on a regular basis and not just for particular roles. It would probably help him gain comfort and confidence.

Your looks aren't going to last forever, Armie, do wake up.

by Anonymousreply 254January 23, 2018 6:11 PM

If Armie works through his “Freudian mess” that roils so close to the surface, who knows what will happen? Mrs H has an inkling that it will not be good for their marriage. And Armie must be scared off that too.

Somone in another thread mentioned Aaron Taylor-Johnson playing this part instead of Hammer and I can't get it out of my head now.

by Anonymousreply 261January 23, 2018 6:46 PM

Besides, Luca doesn't give a shit about who you'd rather fuck, it's Armie for him. Just be thankfuk that Shia didn't make it.

Thankful^ obviously

by Anonymousreply 263January 23, 2018 6:52 PM
Somone in another thread mentioned Aaron Taylor-Johnson

an actor with even bigger issues than Armie. No thanks.
I think Luca would slowly lose interest in Armie if he went wild. Armie's restrictions arouse him because he wants to break down his barriers.

Luca would never "leave" if those barriers are broken for him alone or if he is the reason for Armie breaking them. He appears to be loyal to his muses. In one of the earlier press articles he says that the only think he wouldn't allow his actors is disrespecting him. So short of Armie being a tool, I think uncle bottom is here to stay.

I do give Mrs. Hammer credit, she has done her absolute best to tame her man. She must have recognized whatever baggage the man had early in their marriage, but even she has to notice that her man is inching closely to some sort of self-revelation. That instagram is such a can of worms waiting to open it's almost scary.

by Anonymousreply 267January 23, 2018 8:09 PM

LOL at fangirls blaming ARmie's limitations on everyone else but him. HIs wife is an easy scapegoat to blame. Armie is a limited actor . Time to accept that. No matter how big a boner you got for him. He just isn't that talented and his performance was mostly reacting to Chalamet's intense portrayal. I'm not in the least surprised by his non nom. He was plain wooden in a few scenes.

by Anonymousreply 268January 23, 2018 8:21 PM

Well of course the fangirls blame the wife, it's what they always do, blame the women because their little closet cases must be perfect! Despite the claims otherwise, these fangirls hate the women in their lives, this is just a reflection of that.

by Anonymousreply 269January 23, 2018 8:26 PM

R268 which ones? I want to compare notes.

by Anonymousreply 270January 23, 2018 8:27 PM

He wasn't wooden. He gave an understated performance because the character of Oliver is very understated. Unfortunately the Academy prefers over the top performances. Also, folks critiquing the role limitations Armie imposes on himself because of his wife doesn't mean they ship him and Timmy.

by Anonymousreply 271January 23, 2018 8:54 PM

Oh god, here we go. No it's not that Armie isn't a great actor, it's that the Academy doesn't understand subtle acting and likes over the top stuff. Fuck off with that insane level of fangirl bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 272January 23, 2018 8:56 PM

Different person but it's not fangirl bullshit. Look at our presumed Oscar lineup this year: Oldman, McDormand, Rockwell, Janney. All OTT performances in favor of the superior, subtle Chalamet, Ronan, Dafoe, Metcalf.

by Anonymousreply 273January 23, 2018 8:58 PM

Thank you r273, even people who don't follow awards shows know OTT acts are always preferred.

by Anonymousreply 274January 23, 2018 9:04 PM

Because they're not going to win, despite the fact that they've all won major critics awards and the presumed Oscar winners haven't? No one is saying that subtle performances can't get nominated and I'm sure if Hammer was as good as Chalamet or Metcalf then he would have been. But that doesn't mean that he wasn't overlooked in favor of someone like Woody Harrelson whose performance is inferior but also less subtle.
Which is hilarious given how many of you think Armie actually deserved a nod.

He was nominated for many critics awards. Woody Harrelson and Christopher Plummer were not.

You do know Oldman has more critics awards than Timothee, right?

by Anonymousreply 281January 23, 2018 9:19 PM

R281 You do know I'm talking about MAJOR critics awards, not the regional ones who tend to line up with Oscars more, right?

The major critics awards (the trifecta) are LAFCA, NSFC and NYFCC.

LAFCA + NYFCC were Chalamet's.

NSFC was Kaluuya's.

Oldman wasn't even a runner-up.

by Anonymousreply 282January 23, 2018 9:21 PM

Oh, you mean just the ones that agree with the point you were making? I'll take Variety over you, especially as it's more accurate as to who's likely to win.

And if you're not aware of the importance of LAFCA, NSFC and NYFCC in comparison to something like fucking North Texas then don't bother interacting because it's basic awards season knowledge.

by Anonymousreply 290January 23, 2018 9:29 PM

R290 Nothing, you're just proving my point about you being a hipster about this really well. Thank god there's people like you who appreciate real acting. Not like those idiots in the Academy or SAG - whatever it is they do for a living.

In the real world, Armie's performance simply didn't merit a nomination. It's nothing to do with being subtle, it's about being great. And he isn't great. He's just about good.

by Anonymousreply 291January 23, 2018 9:33 PM

R291 I'm not being a hipster by acknowledging that the critics trifecta are more well regarded and prestigious than the regional critics. It's quite simply a well-known fact by anyone that follows the awards race.

Opinions on acting are subjective but there's no point in arguing that the televised awards tend to prefer the big, bombastic performances than the subtle and nuanced ones. Armie's performance was more praised by critics than two of the people that got nominated in his category. That, again, is a fact.

by Anonymousreply 292January 23, 2018 9:36 PM

*No point in arguing that the televised awards DON'T tend to prefer

by Anonymousreply 293January 23, 2018 9:36 PM

Subtle acting isn't the same as wooden acting. To say that the character is non-emotive is such a cop out. I agree with R291. Armie's acting infact brought the movie down for me. He did not reflect the intensity of the relationship. Passion can be shown in a subtle way or in a loud way. Armie did neither. It didn't help that Armie looked Elio father's colleague, a professor, than a student. I have believed from the beginning that this casting faux paux is going to cost this beautiful movie. But that's jmo. The fangirling on here is at crazy level. Calling him a phoenix bird LMAO. How about some objectivity here huh?

by Anonymousreply 294January 23, 2018 9:41 PM

R294 Maybe people just disagree with you? Acting like it's only his fans that have praised his performance is silly.

by Anonymousreply 295January 23, 2018 9:43 PM

R294 You are absolutely right from your point of view. But your point of view doesn't matter and the feedback for Armie's performance is mostly positive both from critics and public alike; not to mention his co-stars and everyone involved, which is all what matters in the end.

Delighted Armie ruined this movie for you!

by Anonymousreply 296January 23, 2018 10:08 PM

I’m not exactly sure what Armie being cast as Oliver cost this movie? If anything, his chemistry with Timothée may have contributed to it being such a beautiful film. Whose to say that Timothée’s performance would have been the same with a different Oliver? Actors don’t act in a vacuum and chemistry is not always something you can fake. I personally didn’t find Timothée all that special in ‘Lady Bird’ acting opposite Saoirse Ronan, but he was magnificent in this acting against Armie Hammer. Go figure? It’s all subjective.
The topic of Oliver being a "predator" by some Academy members may have prevented Armie from being nominated.

The linked Twitter conversation is interesting, r311. Yesterday I was checking out the /r/movies sub on Reddit, where they have a dedicated thread for discussing each of the nominated movies, with hundreds of responses. I've certainly been well aware of the issues people have had with the age difference and its visuals, but most of the discussion I've had about the movie has taken place here. A LOT of people on that sub, people who are into film, couldn't deal with the age difference, couldn't get past the visuals. So I have no doubt that there were probably plenty of them among the old farts of the Academy. If it really did have an impact on Armie's chances, It's too bad.

by Anonymousreply 318January 24, 2018 9:37 AM

Armie gave an obnoxious front page interview to THR at the height of awards season where he insulted the Academy for giving Casey Affleck an Oscar, and he also gave plenty of interviews where he made it clear he didn’t understand the character and Luca had to wring the performance out of him. There were plenty of reasons voters had to choose other actors. Mark Harris is an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 319January 24, 2018 9:57 AM

I was reading a couple of movie journalists on twitter, discussing Armie and they said he is actually quite liked by members so his snub had nothing to do with him personally.

by Anonymousreply 320January 24, 2018 10:01 AM

They had no trouble nominating a racist cop in what might as well be a blue lives matter movie, so if they left out Armie because they (idiotically) saw Oliver as a predator, that's pretty damn hypocritical.

by Anonymousreply 321January 24, 2018 10:05 AM

R318 What are you talking about? I read that same discussion yesterday and was actually shocked at how much Reddit seem to love the film and the age difference was barely mentioned and when it was, it was refuted.

They currently have it ranked as their 3rd best film of the year.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 322January 24, 2018 10:06 AM

R321 The problem isn't that they think he's a predator, the problem is that he's a gay one, which is scary for the white straight men of the Academy. Had CMBYN been a straight movie with the same plot, Armie might have been nominated

by Anonymousreply 323January 24, 2018 10:10 AM

Anyone who was uncomfortable with the age difference in the film would have snubbed nominating the film altogether. And yet it still got four noms including Best Picture. So “Oscar voters can’t differentiate actor from character” is the stupidest excuse to explain Armie’s omission. He was also excluded by SAG and BAFTA voters. His performance simply wasn’t embraced as well as others.

by Anonymousreply 324January 24, 2018 10:11 AM

If there was an actual problem with that, CMBYN wouldn't have been nominated for BP.

by Anonymousreply 325January 24, 2018 10:12 AM

Even if it was an issue, it wont have been that alone. Splitting the votes with Stuhlbarg will have been a factor. Likewise, Armie being young and hot and rich with a beautiful wife and perfect children. Let's not forget most of the Academy's voters are old white straight men who would feel heavily jealous of someone like Armie and not want to give him anything else in life. Then there's also the fact that his career has been considered a bit of a joke up until now.

by Anonymousreply 326January 24, 2018 10:12 AM

And r326 gets blocked.

by Anonymousreply 327January 24, 2018 10:14 AM

Uh, why?

by Anonymousreply 328January 24, 2018 10:20 AM

Additionally I think a lot of the “how dare he not be nominated” crowd is coming from a place of homophobia, where a straight actor playing a gay role is automatically elevated for his “bravery.”

Armie’s acting was not perfect in the film, his line reading in this scene is laughable, lacking any warmth or intimacy. Like a closeted person would just announce a line like that in a public place.

by Anonymousreply 329January 24, 2018 10:21 AM

R327 for fangurling.

by Anonymousreply 330January 24, 2018 10:22 AM

R330 I didn't say one positive thing about him other than he's hot but okay, if that's fangurling. I'd say it's more just a fact.

I think Armie's performance is undoubtedly uneven. However he does have moments of greatness that quite frankly overshadow some of the nominees that got in instead of him. It's nothing to do with him being straight and playing gay for me. His morning after scene was more memorable than any of the other scenes of the Supporting Actor nominees. And no this isn't fangurling, I still think Stuhlbarg was better and should have been the one to get in, if it only had to be one.

by Anonymousreply 331January 24, 2018 10:24 AM

I'm reading all articles from Italian press and the movie is a must see. There isn't any mention of any problem about age. The overall consensus is that Luca managed to treat very delicate concepts with lots of sensibility, respect without using shock cheap element for the sake of being shocking or provocative. The movie is perceived as being honest and articulated.

"a masterpiece" "sublime"...

Guadagnino said he was very sad and disappointed by how bad A Bigger Spash performed in Italy because we tend to be very snobbish about this type of movies unless they are praised and validated by foreign press and public first,so this time he premiered the movie after the international release and it's working very well. Shame for Italy but that's how things work here.

Armie's nomination would have more of a "because he was in a critically loved movie" more than his actual performance. It was a crowded field and likely there was a vote split between him and Stuhlbarg. Also Sony Classic was so confidenet that the movie would be a run away Oscar magnate, I believe they fucked up the film's release and push for nominations.

Armie gave a really good performance as Oliver and the chemistry between him and Timmy was so strong I wouldn't be surprised if we find out years down the road they actually fucked. But it was Timothee Chalamet who carried the movie and if he hadn't been nominated that would have been a real snub.

Armie will be fine and who knows what's down the road for him. Luca is clearly in love with Armie and will use him again whether its a sequel to CMBYN or not.

BTW why is the wife with Armie promoting the film in Rome? Do actors usually bring their wives or spouses on PR tours?

by Anonymousreply 344January 24, 2018 3:24 PM

No, but we all know she loves to be by his side at all times to keep an eye on him. Also, apparently Stuhlberg was in Blue Jasmine, so why is noone giving him grief for working with Woody Allen like they did Timmy?

by Anonymousreply 345January 24, 2018 3:50 PM

Doesn't Elizabeth go with him whenever and wherever she can? I suppose that her social media (which is her actual job, never mind the baking business) benefits from it because more people will check her out if she's where movie promo is happening..

by Anonymousreply 346January 24, 2018 3:54 PM

You must be new if you don't know Elizabeth follows Armie around like the fish that attaches to the shark's ass.

by Anonymousreply 347January 24, 2018 4:08 PM

R344 Mrs H likes to dominate her husband. I actually don't think Timmy and Armie have fucked....Armie and Luca that's a different story.

by Anonymousreply 348January 24, 2018 4:08 PM

R347 Oh please! He looks more than happy to be followed around and spent time with his wife.... nevermind he's liking bondage pussy again haha.

by Anonymousreply 349January 24, 2018 4:15 PM

Elizabeth seems like a nice person and I can’t imagine holding any animus towards her, but you do have to wonder how much influence, for better or worse, she has over Armie when it comes to choosing projects considering how hands-on she appears to be with his image and career. I realize that they have a family and there are certain sacrifices that must be made, but hopefully those sacrifices don’t always come at the expense of taking artistic risks. I would think that’s his greatest challenge and potential impediment to his future success.

by Anonymousreply 350January 24, 2018 4:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 362January 24, 2018 6:31 PM

Armie really does look bad in that Adidas track suit... and that's saying something as the guy usually looks great in just about anything. Of course I think he probably looks the very best in nothing :-)

by Anonymousreply 372January 24, 2018 10:04 PM

Armie smiling non stop, looking at Timmy with absolute fondness (and playing with his wedding ring, while wearing that ridiculous tracksuit). He looks like he's either high or drunk or just doesn't give a shit. Which I think looks kind of good on him.

Both Armie and Luca basically admitted Armie threw a tantrum when Luca started working on Suspiria because he felt he was being cheated on...

Also, the more I look at that video the more I think Armie would totally fuck Timmy.

by Anonymousreply 378January 25, 2018 1:26 AM

About the Oscars, I bet he is happy to be associated with a movie nominated in the most important categories. Sure, it would have been flatering to be nominated, but, what he has now is the best thing that ever happened to his career and he knows it.

How can you view Armie's Instagram "likes"? I read he "liked" more kinky shit today.

by Anonymousreply 386January 25, 2018 3:36 AM

The first few seconds looks like intense eye fucking I'll admit that, but the rest of the video Armie looks like he's somewhere between trying to be happy for his friend but hurt that he didn't get nominated. The wedding ring thing is interesting. My husband plays with his wedding ring when he's feeling up because we've had a fight or he's annoyed with me. Maybe Mrs. H is pissed at him for getting drunk and high.

by Anonymousreply 387January 25, 2018 3:45 AM

The way Armie whispers "Timmy" at the start of the video is kind of hot we're being honest.

by Anonymousreply 388January 25, 2018 3:47 AM

Wow, he got no manner. He casually put his foot on table during that FB interview. It seems that the interpreter had to tell him to put it down before he actully did so.

by Anonymousreply 389January 25, 2018 4:18 AM

That track suit was the first salvo in today’s “Give-no-fucks” Armie.

by Anonymousreply 390January 25, 2018 4:20 AM

If you mean this linked interview, r389, Luca also had his feet on that table or ottoman even longer than Armie did. Armie looks deliriously tired and probably quite jet-lagged. He posted on instagram story tonight that he is working out in his hotel because he can't get any sleep.

by Anonymousreply 393January 25, 2018 5:09 AM

Timmy had one leg on the table at the end, too.

Obviously, it was an uncomfortable couch.

by Anonymousreply 394January 25, 2018 5:21 AM

Armie's scruff is aging him. He needs to shave but only after he loses the double chin.

by Anonymousreply 395January 25, 2018 6:16 AM

Amie was on a like spree at 5am. Nothing kinky just a shitload of art. I have to say that I've found out tons of artists and galleries, photographers and so on,especially grotesque oriented stuff I actually like a lot. His taste is interesting,I'm not surprised how much he tries to project this cosy and clean up portrait of his family. They all weirdos and can easily afford being such. One thing always hides another.

by Anonymousreply 396January 25, 2018 7:28 AM
Armie's scruff is aging him. He needs to shave but only after he loses the double chin.

Sadly, I agree. The first thing I noticed when all these new Rome pics hit is that he looks older even since last week. The cap and tracksuit are DILFy signs of giving up.

by Anonymousreply 397January 25, 2018 7:49 AM

I like him best with the scruffy look are you all kidding? I don't think it ages him quite the opposite and it's nice to see him dressed casual or borderline "unkept" for a change.

by Anonymousreply 398January 25, 2018 9:02 AM

Any feedback from the Paris premiere?

by Anonymousreply 399January 25, 2018 9:39 AM

He was a mess at the Italian junket, but he was probably depressed over the nomination and over promoting the film since he has nothing to gain from it anymore.

R396 any links to anything he liked? How can you see his likes on IG?

by Anonymousreply 400January 25, 2018 9:51 AM

Her presence in Rome was completely unnecessary because there was no red carpet involved, so she could have stayed home a couple more days, but is it possible that she hired the pap who took the pictures during the night out in Rome? I wouldn't put it past her, her thirst for attention is a bit alarming.

What drugs does Armie do? I feel like he's a cokehead.

by Anonymousreply 409January 25, 2018 11:11 AM

Mrs H is obviously aware of Armie being a public stoner and liking kinky photos on Instagram, so how does that fit into her Stepford life?

by Anonymousreply 410January 25, 2018 11:32 AM

Armie has probably done coke in the past, but now he just sticks to weed and alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 411January 25, 2018 11:46 AM

Could it be how IG works? I think it selects what you see of a user based on how much you interact with it. I started following many IG pages liked by Armie and like a couple of his latests post and quickly started to see much more of his own activity. I could be wrong but it happened before with other accounts I follow.

by Anonymousreply 417January 25, 2018 12:12 PM

R415 If he appears less attractive, fewer women will hit on him (or slide into his DMs).

by Anonymousreply 418January 25, 2018 12:14 PM

I always thought he look best during this scene, the sport clothing, messy hair. He easily passed for a 25 years old. They should of gave him a slightly less classic look.

by Anonymousreply 419January 25, 2018 12:15 PM

R418 But for many he's more attractive when he's messy. Oh lord what a dilemma for this poor woman.

by Anonymousreply 420January 25, 2018 12:17 PM

Women tend to be both insecure and maternal, I bet more of them are tempted to hit on him if he looks like shit.

You'd think an 'alpha' woman like Elizabeth would love to flaunt her perfect husband instead of letting him slip.

by Anonymousreply 421January 25, 2018 12:20 PM

He does look way more approachable in that Adidas track suit.

by Anonymousreply 422January 25, 2018 12:59 PM

r412 You're right. Instagram is designed to be intuitive. The more things you like and follow, the more of those types of things it will show you.

by Anonymousreply 423January 25, 2018 1:04 PM

r396, he does seem to be fond of modern surrealism or absurdist art (?), usually with a fleshy, erotic element to it, along with all the Japanese bondage kink. He's got mostly dark and obscure tastes, which is kind of intriguing since he comes across as such a wholesome, sunny guy. I'll bet he and Elizabeth have very different ideas of what constitutes art.

by Anonymousreply 424January 25, 2018 1:34 PM

He looks a mixture of hungover, stoned, jet lagged, and depressed in that clip. I'm sure he's happy for Timmy but I'm guessing he's also jealous/depressed about his lack of an Oscar nomination. Let's face it, Hammer has been plugging this film to death for nearly a year now and he probably (and not unrightly so) thinks that this may be his one real shot at an Oscar nod given he himself admits to being something of a limited actor. I also feel bad for him because Sony Classics originally was pushing him for a best supporting actor nomination but then at the last minute switched their efforts to Michael Stuhlbarg which likely split their votes and neither one got nominated.

As for Armie and Timmy, I can't believe there are people who actually think these two are fucking. They clearly have a bromance thing going on but their interactions together seem more like close brothers. Now, I wouldn't be at all surprised if when Armie's high or drunk that he dabbles in a bit of peen play but that is about it. People really need to separate pretend from reality.

by Anonymousreply 425January 25, 2018 1:35 PM

Agree with R419 he can looks 24/25 in those photos

by Anonymousreply 426January 25, 2018 1:39 PM

R425 Sony expected Armie would be nominated but after the film started going into wider release, Stuhlbarg's monologue at the end of th emovie was getting more attention. Wanting to get every Oscar nod it could, Sony switched its focus to Stuhlbarg. I don't think they meant to snub Armie as they were still campaigning for him BUT I think they wanted to do everything to ensure the movie got a best supporting nod.

by Anonymousreply 427January 25, 2018 1:51 PM

Given that Broadway is around the corner, Armie would be wise to grow a thicker skin because if the reviews and the audience response aren't good, he'll still have to be there and perform.

by Anonymousreply 428January 25, 2018 2:10 PM

I think what he achieved with this movie is huge considering he's probably one of the few nominated or potential nominated actors who had to prove his acting skills and not just nail a role. He had some interesting moments in past movies but he wasn't in them enough to prove anything. He will never be a Christian Bale but there is a place for everybody in that business and plenty of times it's more about being in the right place at the right time than pure talent. A nod would have been such a huge burst for his career but maybe he's not ready yet to deserve this,he needs a couple of other interesting roles before being 100% convincing,so all in all snub or not, depression or not ,this is very good for his career.

by Anonymousreply 429January 25, 2018 2:29 PM

Also If he indeed were nominated he would have been hit by a ton of negativity because Stuhlbarg deserved that spot more than him or at the very least as much as him. So a snub in his case had a better outcome than a nomination. He's getting a lot of support despite the occasional same old and tiring sarcastic remarks. Sometimes a 3 star review is better than a 5 star review so to speak.

by Anonymousreply 430January 25, 2018 2:35 PM

That's true. Stuhlburg is in 3 Best Picture nominated films this year alone. He is even more overdue for a nod than Armie since he was already snubbed for a Serious Man. In a way, the Academy did Armie a favor, because if he had gotten the nod and not Stahlburg, the general public would probably find him overrated and undeserving. At least now people are sympathetic to him and will probably check out his movies more.

by Anonymousreply 431January 25, 2018 2:51 PM

I think if the Spacey-Plummer thing hadn't have happened, both Armie and Stuhlberg would be nominated because Harrelson sure as hell doesn't deserve a nod more than them. The Academy just didn't want to choose between them so they went with neither.

by Anonymousreply 432January 25, 2018 2:55 PM

Armie devours Timmy with his eyes. He will not resist for long.

by Anonymousreply 433January 25, 2018 4:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 434January 25, 2018 4:35 PM

I don't see the eye fucking I see a guy who is full of pride that his friend was nominated, and depressed that he didn't get nominated himself. To me Hammer's body language was one of "I'm done with this film"

by Anonymousreply 435January 25, 2018 5:06 PM

This is OT but why do ONTD despise this movie and Armie Hammer so much? Checking twitter feed or tumblr there is for everybody no matter what a fair share of negativity or plain distaste but ONTD is something else...What is the general target of ppl over there? It's so extra and unreasonable they sound like they are viciously trolling but they are really not...

by Anonymousreply 463January 25, 2018 7:38 PM

Don't they despise almost everything?

by Anonymousreply 464January 25, 2018 7:39 PM

The better question is why any sensible person still goes on ONTD. That site went off the deep end around 2012.

by Anonymousreply 465January 25, 2018 7:43 PM

Well they have a very special hate for the movie that goes way beyond the general bikering. Last year before the movie was out i bumped into one of their threads and I really thought Tim or Armie molested someone by the tone of the discussion.

R465 I'm not familiar with that place I just visited because it popped up on twitter a couple of times connected to the movie/armie and thought it was like a blog version of here. But the place is tot insane. Is it famous?what's the deal with them?Just out of curiosity.

by Anonymousreply 466January 25, 2018 7:48 PM

It's a gossip site that's been taken over by particularly deranged SJW R466 It was quite popular, and better than today, in the heyday of LiveJournal.

by Anonymousreply 467January 25, 2018 7:54 PM

It's just another celebrity gossip/discussion forum. It's been around since the early 2000s (still uses live journal for heaven's sake). I used to go on there when i watched True Blood because they would have post-episode discussions. They also had great gifs. Unfortunately, around 2012 or so, they got so SJW- like that they became insane. They now hate everyone and nitpick everything any celeb says. It's not even in a funny, smart kind of way like folks on here do it. They're just downright terrible people over there.

by Anonymousreply 468January 25, 2018 7:57 PM

They are pretty exhausting and yeah....not an inch of self-irony like this place or tumblr. But the way you describe them they are pretty much irrelevant in the big picture of gossip world. Bless their hearts then.

by Anonymousreply 470January 25, 2018 8:06 PM

Armie said he's spent so much time with Timmy that now Timmy pops up in his childhood memories. Huh.

by Anonymousreply 471January 25, 2018 8:16 PM

R471 I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I don't think Armie had many friends as a child, or maybe even now. I would not be surprised to hear that most people probably find him weird.

by Anonymousreply 472January 25, 2018 8:20 PM

He was bullied as a child/teenager so that's very likely, R471

by Anonymousreply 473January 25, 2018 8:28 PM

I don't think he comes across as weird. Sure, he likes weird things, but he has a pretty normal personality. He's just very outgoing.

by Anonymousreply 474January 25, 2018 8:30 PM

How could kids hate the one who provided them with Playboys and lotion? He should have been their king.

by Anonymousreply 475January 25, 2018 8:31 PM

Considering his only friend close to his age is Niki and he's his childhood friend since forever...he could very well be kinda on his own. He also does't seem to have any relevant friendship or clicked with any actor he worked with. Ok that most of this HW so called friendships are PR stunts but still...

by Anonymousreply 476January 25, 2018 9:27 PM

Annapurna, the Megan Ellison-headed production outfit, picked up Sorry to Bother You in a competitive situation for a low-mid seven-figure deal. Endeavour Content negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers.

“We fucking love this movie,” Annapurna said Thursday in a succinct statement.

GOOD.

by Anonymousreply 477January 25, 2018 9:33 PM

The French interview was nice. Armie really defending the age question and reminding people it was ELio pursuing Oliver and it was something they both want it. American actors are more relaxed doing interviews oversees. I hope they do the Graham Norton show in London.

by Anonymousreply 478January 25, 2018 10:19 PM

We'll have a sequel!

Armie saying that he sees Timmy in his childhood memories is such a sweet and odd thing to share. They're so lovely. I hope they don't drift apart.

by Anonymousreply 480January 25, 2018 10:58 PM

Oh how sweet. Luca is going to give Armie another shot at an Oscar nomination by giving Oliver AIDS.

by Anonymousreply 481January 25, 2018 11:48 PM

This sequel seems like such a bad idea in so many ways.

by Anonymousreply 482January 25, 2018 11:54 PM

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 494January 26, 2018 10:25 AM

Aids role not very creative. The academy been their done that. Luca really trying

by Anonymousreply 495January 26, 2018 10:32 AM

Didn't know aids was a creative option for a movie this specific.

Protagonists won't get aids, it will "only" be treated politically and socially just like the Italian political scene and Euro scene after the fall of Berlin Wall. In Italy I remember there were adv on tv about hiv late 80's and it was treated more like a joke than anything because it was something that didn't have an impact like in the Usa. The huge jump happened when Freddie Mercury died in 91. So it made perfect sense for the protagonists of the movie not to discuss about it,especially in such a small town.It was a non-problem but if the next movie is in late 80's early 90's then it would be simply idiotic not to mention it.

by Anonymousreply 496January 26, 2018 11:46 AM

R502 Armie looks stoned.

by Anonymousreply 504January 26, 2018 1:36 PM
Protagonists won't get aids

Elio won't get AIDS. Elio is the protagonist. Oliver is the perfect character to get AIDS. The perfect lover always gets AIDS. The Normal Heart, Falsettos.

by Anonymousreply 505January 26, 2018 1:41 PM

R505 No he won't.

by Anonymousreply 506January 26, 2018 1:47 PM

I think both characters will be AIDS free, otherwise it wouldn't make sense for Luca to do 5 sequels on their lives.

by Anonymousreply 507January 26, 2018 1:58 PM

Besides Luca would never want Armie to look 'ugly', not his big boy.

by Anonymousreply 508January 26, 2018 2:02 PM

For such a naturally attractive man, Armie doesn't seem to have much of a sense of vanity to him, which is odd considering who he's married to. Elizabeth seems to like everything staged and perfect and is no doubt living her fashion fantasy through their tour of Europe, yet Armie seems perfectly comfortable sporting a track suit and a scruffy beard. At least he pulled a look together for Quotidien.

by Anonymousreply 509January 26, 2018 2:04 PM

Armie trying to be Young and Hip.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 510January 26, 2018 2:16 PM

R509 could be the opposite, Maybe he has a huge ego and think he's cool enough it's not necessary for him to be dressed properly and she is more adequate looking considering the circumstances.

Her dresses and stuff is not that expensive end sometimes cheap as hell, and she wore the same dresses/shoes multiple times, many of them are given from showrooms like they usually do and returned. she's rich but not hollywood rich and has very limited sense of fashion in fact her styling is pretty old even if her intent is to look classy with a bit of edge. But at least she tries, with boring and limited results. If she was the one in track suit with no make up people would demolish her online.

by Anonymousreply 511January 26, 2018 2:20 PM

R511 I actually think Armie is relatively speaking for someone in Hollywood down to Earth. Mrs. H gets off on the exposure she gets from being Armie's wife and creating the image of a perfectly happy family life. Her ultimate goal is to get some kind of show of her own.

by Anonymousreply 512January 26, 2018 2:29 PM

R512 what kind of show? Just curious...

by Anonymousreply 513January 26, 2018 2:31 PM

R513 Cooking or home and family type crap. She's done a lot of appearances on stuff like that in recent years.

by Anonymousreply 514January 26, 2018 2:34 PM

R514 yes she's trying to brand herself as a devoted wife and mother with the perfect husband and happy children.

by Anonymousreply 515January 26, 2018 2:40 PM

Mrs. is a daddy's girl who was mentored with a marketing approach so everything is a brand to her.

by Anonymousreply 516January 26, 2018 2:43 PM
[R514] yes she's trying to brand herself as a devoted wife and mother with the perfect husband and happy children.

This will not end well.

by Anonymousreply 517January 26, 2018 2:49 PM

Armie is going to leave her for Timmy we all know this.

by Anonymousreply 518January 26, 2018 2:50 PM

No he's not but I do see trouble. This movie has awaken something artistically in Armie. She will need to loosen up the rains and stop all this self promoting.

by Anonymousreply 519January 26, 2018 2:58 PM

R519 I think R518 was making a joke. That being said of course their marriage will end in divorce, it's Hollywood. They've been together for over 10 years, that's a huge accomplishment in LA land. Wasn't there a rumor or blind item a few months back that she was furious that Armie didn't take her to the Toronto Film Festival. I guess Armie didn't want her ruining his reunion with Timmy or Luca both of whom he hadn't seen since Sundance.

by Anonymousreply 520January 26, 2018 3:02 PM

As strange as their marriage seems, I don't think he will leave her. Not for awhile, anyway. He's very devoted, and he may not be as oppressed as everyone thinks he is. I think if she had been down, he probably would've married her sooner. I just think they need to stop "stuntin' for the gram" so much. It makes it look as though things are amiss, even if they're not.

by Anonymousreply 521January 26, 2018 3:03 PM

R521 yes I agree there marriage is probably fine. Doesn't Armie like being controlled anyways. My hunch is the marriage will fizzle when Armie's career fizzles and she has no more use for him.

by Anonymousreply 522January 26, 2018 3:09 PM

Armie has said he sometimes thinks in a Russian accent. I guess his inner Russian thug broke free.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 523January 26, 2018 3:21 PM

She wants to be more than the unknown wife, her goal is to be someone like a non-acting Blake Lively;but instead of that antebellum e-commerce fail; she has cupcakes.

I think she's very harmless and insecure also because she's pushing 36. Armie does what the hell he wants. Like those men who pretend to be overly jealous just to distract from the fact they're the ones cheating in the first place. Like the saying "feign madness but keep your balance".

by Anonymousreply 524January 26, 2018 3:34 PM

r524 You think he cheats? That would explain why he acts so over the top about their love....

by Anonymousreply 525January 26, 2018 3:36 PM

I love that he captioned that photo at r523: “Hello, Style, it’s me again...”. Clever. I also like that he tagged the woman in the portrait as Timothée.

by Anonymousreply 527January 26, 2018 3:45 PM

R525 No it was an example. To say that he empathizes things too much to give a certain tame/safe image of himself, the good husband, the devoted father....who concedes himself only a couple of fetish likes on Ig accounts "because wife got all under control". I think she accepts more compromises for him then the other way around.

by Anonymousreply 528January 26, 2018 3:47 PM

Nah she gives him some rope but not too much. She attends too many of these events to signal you trust your man. She lets him dabble in the kinky. Their over the top lovey dovey act not a good sigh.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 537January 26, 2018 4:18 PM

r537 He has been hanging out with a lot of black people lately.....track suits, pseudo gang signs.

by Anonymousreply 538January 26, 2018 4:21 PM

Why did she acquiesce? She should make him buy his own track suits. He’s too young to give up and accept comfort over style.

by Anonymousreply 539January 26, 2018 4:24 PM

Because, like R528 has said, she spoils him rotten. No wonder he adores her, she's probably as subservient as can be despite what he implies to make it look like they're a feminist couple and very modern.

by Anonymousreply 540January 26, 2018 4:28 PM

Why the hell are you buying track suits in Paris of all places anyway? You can't wait until you get back to the states for that underwhelming purchase?

by Anonymousreply 541January 26, 2018 4:30 PM

You know when a toddler isn't getting enough sleep? That's Armie, tired and grumpy and bored demanding random stuff to try to feel better.

by Anonymousreply 542January 26, 2018 4:33 PM

I find it so funny she answers her social media questions. Someone should tell her he looks tacky. They all seems to be having fun. 😃

by Anonymousreply 543January 26, 2018 4:42 PM

Armie is kinda weird. Let him have his tracksuits...it will probably be a passing thing, and it makes him happy. That’s a mark of a good spouse, being indulgent when the other partner is having rough time.

by Anonymousreply 544January 26, 2018 4:43 PM

That's true, R544

by Anonymousreply 545January 26, 2018 4:45 PM

Armie is feeling rebellious because he has no chance to get an Oscar or any other award this year. He can finally let loose, being in a foreign country also helps.

by Anonymousreply 546January 26, 2018 4:49 PM

R546 yes, his behavior in Europe is far cry from what it was when he in Sundance. Of course, the Oscar nominations had not been announced.

He's getting slightly messy, but so what? He doesn't have to suck up to anyone now.

Get your emotions out Armie, while you're among good friends and in a foreign land.

by Anonymousreply 547January 26, 2018 5:01 PM

If they do a CMBYN sequel, he'll get a sympathy nomination since many commentators feel he was snubbed.

by Anonymousreply 548January 26, 2018 5:07 PM

He might get a sympathy nomination next year for On the Basis of Sex.

by Anonymousreply 549January 26, 2018 5:08 PM

Maybe the tracks suits work for the now furtive sex Armie is having with Timmy since Liz decided to become the "field trip" chaperone for this European press junket.

Armie's free balling and it's easy to slide those track suit pants down for a quick blow from Timmy in the back of the car, the men's room in between interviews, etc.

What a shame, if Liz wasn't around he could be stylishly dressed all day and then totally naked in Timmy's bed all night.

by Anonymousreply 550January 26, 2018 5:16 PM

Maybe it' just me but does no one else find it odd that the Hammers would leave their 1 year old at home?

by Anonymousreply 551January 26, 2018 5:33 PM

I wonder about their kids too, r551. Armie is on a work trip. I’m not sure why his wife had to accompany.

I think the Toronto Film Festival is the only Festival that Mrs. H didn't accompany her hubby to.

by Anonymousreply 556January 26, 2018 5:52 PM

Why wasn't she present at the TFF?

by Anonymousreply 557January 26, 2018 6:19 PM

R557 dunno. I remember at the time TC saying something about this was the first time that had seen each other in 9 months? Maybe Armie wanted some alone time with Timmy...or Luca...or both LMAO

by Anonymousreply 558January 26, 2018 6:21 PM

R557 They had a fight (allegedly), and then Armie platonically cheated on her with Timmy since that was the real start of their sexless romance.

by Anonymousreply 559January 26, 2018 6:23 PM

R558 I remember when Timmy said the 9 months thing, but I think he lied there because there were some pictures of them in NYC in October so...

by Anonymousreply 560January 26, 2018 6:30 PM

R560 Toronto film festival was in September they had not seen each other since January for Sundance

R559 I do think Armie loves Timmy more than his wife...but platonically not sexually. I honestly think there are a lot of straight guys who are romantically attracted to men (meaning the relate better to men, they have stronger emotional connections to men) but are sexually attracted to women.

by Anonymousreply 561January 26, 2018 6:34 PM

What? How can you be romantically attracted to someone but not in the sexual way? Romance leads to sex

by Anonymousreply 562January 26, 2018 6:40 PM

I couldn't help but wonder...

by Anonymousreply 563January 26, 2018 6:48 PM

R562 Without turning things into a big debate, some sociologists argue that our definition of romance has become too synonymous with sex and that romance and sex are independent acts. You can have sex with out romance and romance with out sex. There is an argument that we all have sexual orientation and romantic orientation. It's meant to explain why some people find themselves more comfortable and more open with people of a certain gender but have sex with the other. Like Bromances where a guy is actually closer to his best friend in terms of emotional intimacy and wanting to spend time together but sexually is attracted to his wife. I don't say I believe this but that's the argument.

by Anonymousreply 564January 26, 2018 6:57 PM

R561 thanks for correcting me on that, wasn't so sure.....also, when did Timmy stay with the Hammers during the shoot of Beautiful Boy, was it between January and September?

by Anonymousreply 565January 26, 2018 7:01 PM

R565 according to wiki it filmed in March 2017

by Anonymousreply 566January 26, 2018 7:02 PM

Timmy stayed at the Hammer’s house during pre production. There’s a picture on Elizabeth’s Instagram with Timmy, Arnie and Nikki cooking pasta in the Hammer’s kitchen.

by Anonymousreply 567January 26, 2018 7:04 PM

Pre-production would have likely been in Jan or February then.

by Anonymousreply 568January 26, 2018 7:06 PM

So February? That means that they met again after January...

by Anonymousreply 569January 26, 2018 7:06 PM

I don't think Timmy said January I think he just said it had been months since they'd last seen each other. Feb to Sept is many months

by Anonymousreply 570January 26, 2018 7:08 PM

Ok, thanks for clearing the timeline for me!

by Anonymousreply 571January 26, 2018 7:10 PM

Also the pictures with them in NYC around October, were before the Sundance premiere?

by Anonymousreply 572January 26, 2018 7:13 PM

I said this before Armie wants to be Timmy. The French interview proved that for me. The Mrs Doesn't have to worry about Tim but her husband restlessness hence the horrible track suit.

by Anonymousreply 573January 26, 2018 7:16 PM

R572 Sundance takes place in January and CMBYN debuted there in Jan. 2017.

by Anonymousreply 574January 26, 2018 7:28 PM

R573 That's a very good observation. I do think Armie is in awe of Timmy and envious of his talent. I don't believe anything but good friendship happened between Armie and Timmy. Armie is straight, but Timmy well the jury is still out on that!

by Anonymousreply 575January 26, 2018 7:31 PM

The picture mentioned in r567 was posted on January 31, 2017. It’s Armie cooking over a stove with Timmy and Niki on other side of him.
