The Game (1997 - spoilers)

Good movie but the ending doesn't make any sense. A game like that would cost millions of dollars. How can Sean Penn's character who is a loser, give his wealthy brother such an expensive gift? Even if his brother pays for half, it's still too much money. The game is also too complex to pull off. I loved the style of the movie and the actors but the conclusion isn't possible.

There's also this one from 2023.

The OP of this one from 2021 seems to agree with you calling it "ridiculously implausible (albeit very fun and stylish)".

Sean Penn's character gave the bill to Michael Douglas who then winced but didn't vomit or have a panic attack. I think the game was expensive but still affordable for a hedge fund manager who lives in a San Francisco mansion.

If you want to be a joyless aspie and pick apart the movie's logic, I'd ask how the people administering the game stopped Douglas's character from getting killed. He does a bunch of really dangerous stuff throughout the movie and don't get hurt.

That is one good movie. It never received the appreciation it deserved.

Jodie Foster wanted to be in this.

I really like the movie, but I don't disagree about the implausibility of the ending. I always wondered what the bill for something like that would be.

If you have to ask you can't afford it.

Wow, I had no idea there were three other threads about this movie lol.

R4 Joyless aspie? I don't understand how they kept him alive either. Nothing makes sense.

Still entertaining and stylish but I wish the ending had been different.
