I Want To Be Underwhelmed: 2025 Spring Edition Of Everything Is Fine

It’s biscuits and gravy for dinner and I can’t pretend there’s a vegetable side involved.

by Anonymousreply 600April 29, 2025 12:43 AM

I bought a battery operated fan for power outages but I find myself using it even when there isn't a power outage.

by Anonymousreply 1March 15, 2025 10:00 PM

^me too! I'm also considering stocking up on edibles. I have a feeling I'm going to need them

by Anonymousreply 2March 15, 2025 10:02 PM

I’m gonna have leftover pizza for dinner. Marcos Pizza since neither Pizza Hut nor Little Caesar’s passed muster. Fuck them both.

Should have added more flowers, OP.

by Anonymousreply 3March 15, 2025 10:04 PM

Last night I watched Rosemary's Baby. Tonight I'm going to watch Apartment 7A, which tells the backstory of Terry Gionoffrio, and why she jumped out of the Castevet's apartment.

by Anonymousreply 4March 15, 2025 10:07 PM

Both of those movies sound very whelming R4. Stay safe.

by Anonymousreply 5March 15, 2025 10:09 PM

I would like to watch something underwhelming this evening.

by Anonymousreply 6March 15, 2025 10:13 PM

I started watching that knives out movie. Haven’t finished it.

Kinda boring and not really interested what happens to the Ana character. Does it get better?

I saw the second Glass onion movie and really enjoyed it.

by Anonymousreply 7March 15, 2025 10:16 PM

I watched both Brit Nicolas Fairford and American Preppy Kitchen guy make finger sandwiches for afternoon tea and I must say I prefer American Preppy Kitchen guy's recipes.

Although neither one of them had the good sense to use a serrated knife to cut the crusts off the sandwiches and to cut them in half.

by Anonymousreply 8March 15, 2025 10:33 PM

Thanks for starting the new thread, OP. I'm the one who earlier commented on how messy my apartment was. Well, the rain ended and I went for a 3.5 mile walk, then I was too tired and sore to do any cleaning. Tomorrow is another day.

by Anonymousreply 9March 16, 2025 1:26 AM

I feel bad for Starbucks Baristas being required to draw pictures and write messages on cups.

by Anonymousreply 10March 16, 2025 1:28 AM

I might make onigiri tomorrow. I bought the triangle molds on Amazon ages ago and never used them. I'm a bit of a kitchen gadget addict. The thrift shops run by my local Humane Society and Cat Protection Society are the beneficiaries of my many kitchen gadgets that I use maybe once and then donate.

I'm making Zuccini Pamesan tomorrow and looking forward to it.

I smell pussy!

by Anonymousreply 14March 16, 2025 3:46 AM

Over/Under and Everything’s Not Fine. The boys are back. We saw the Dropkick Murphys the other night. Overwhelming energy. Incredible show, amazing band, all the good songs. They’re here for the holiday weekend, everybody’s Irish (in spirits, anyway) and we weren’t their oldest fans. Or else there’s some really haggard looking 60-something’s out there.

Felt kinda punk yesterday but figured, “You’re too old for the excesses of show business” and a Guinness or two. Felt like shit last night. Dragged my ass out of bed this morning, got groceries and some Tylenol and figured, WTF, it can’t be THAT but bought two Covid kits because I tossed out the free ones Biden sent.

We’ve both got it. Five fuckin’ years, eight shots, and we’ve finally got Covid. Underwhelming compared to what I’ve heard and read. I’d say it feels like a cold but I haven’t had one, or the flu, for about fifteen years now so not sure how bad it felt before. I still have hope in my heart but we’re walking alone for a while.

My accountant charges much too much to prepare my taxes. I’m needing to take many long naps to stay underwhelmed about it.

by Anonymousreply 16March 16, 2025 5:38 PM

I enjoyed MIra Sorvino's guest appearance on Will & Grace. Funny episode.

by Anonymousreply 17March 16, 2025 6:10 PM

So I made the limoncello tiramisu. It’s firming up in the fridge.

I also made some lemon bars and are also in the fridge.

I shall start my gumbo shortly. 😬

Happy Sunday!

by Anonymousreply 18March 16, 2025 8:15 PM

I’m enjoying a slice of Jenny Craig pizza. So delicious.

by Anonymousreply 19March 16, 2025 8:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 23March 16, 2025 10:13 PM

Watching The Devil Wears Prada again and wondering why Andie told Emily she wouldn’t be going to Paris. Clearly with her injuries she wouldn’t be going so why say anything. I also hate her boyfriend and friends.

by Anonymousreply 24March 17, 2025 1:18 AM

I didn't make the onigiri I mentioned upthread.

I'm all talk and no action.

by Anonymousreply 25March 17, 2025 1:20 AM

Well, it took me three hours, longer, actually, but I made the gumbo. 🍤 🦀 and sausage.

It was spectacularly delicious. I added more Tabasco to my bowl and it was so, so good.

I have a ton left over so I’m gonna have to freeze some for later.

by Anonymousreply 26March 17, 2025 1:28 AM

WTF, Devil Wears Prada when she tells lam-o boyfriend is was right and turned her back on her friends?

by Anonymousreply 27March 17, 2025 1:56 AM

It was extremely foggy all day. Now it's raining and there's a flash flood watch from ice breakup on rivers and lakes. Not unusual after a classic New England winter, which we hadn't had in a couple of years.

by Anonymousreply 28March 17, 2025 3:24 AM

I found a dead mouse in the walkway. Actually, my dog found it, he might have killed it when he picked it up in his mouth.

by Anonymousreply 29March 17, 2025 3:45 AM

The utility company emailed me to remind me my payment is due in 4 days because I haven't paid it yet. I find it rude they assume I forgot to pay already. They have never emailed a reminder before.

by Anonymousreply 30March 17, 2025 4:30 AM

R21, I'm craving a canned corned beef sandwich with ketchup on toast.

by Anonymousreply 31March 17, 2025 11:26 AM

I'm out of Swiffer dry cloths.

by Anonymousreply 32March 17, 2025 2:00 PM

R32 I feel for you. I need swifffers in my life always

by Anonymousreply 33March 17, 2025 2:23 PM

I just celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by having one glazed donut. I know that it has absolutely nothing to do with St. Patrick’s Day, but that’s the only celebrating I’m going to do for this holiday today because I have to go to the doctor this afternoon and I’m not looking forward to it it’s a pain clinic and it’s a pain to drive there. It’s a pain to wait an hour. It’s a pain to get injections in my spine and it’s a pain to drive 45 minutes during rush-hour traffic home Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 34March 17, 2025 2:26 PM

I still have an annoying hacking cough, remnants of a horrid cold I had two weeks ago. It just refuses to die.

by Anonymousreply 35March 17, 2025 2:26 PM

This cold I'm having can die in a fire. Blowing my nose too much wrecked my left nostril. I can't sleep at night because my nose gets plugged up, and no amount of blowing can clear it out. And it's been a week; by now, I should be over it.

by Anonymousreply 36March 17, 2025 5:03 PM

R36, if you can, try sleeping with your head elevated so you sinuses can drain. Maybe a hot bath beforehand. Good luck. Sorry you're feeling bad.

by Anonymousreply 37March 17, 2025 6:20 PM

I have a toothache for the first time in a million years. I'm currently taking NSAIDs and using Anbesol gel. I called to make an appointment and the first avaialble is the 28th. I'm also out of my favorite Virgina ham that I can only find at the local food market. I had intended to have ham and Swiss roll-ups for lunch. Ugh! It's definitely a Monday. Guess I'm going for a walk this afternoon to the local market.

by Anonymousreply 38March 17, 2025 7:21 PM

R38 I’m having dental issues too for the first time in forever. Root canal on Friday.boo! I potted my dahlia tubers that I paraffin waxed last fall. Prepped and stored about 48 bulbs and only 16 made it through without becoming mummified. Womp womp.

by Anonymousreply 39March 17, 2025 7:31 PM

I can only watch comfort tv these days. I’m in poor health and I’m also depressed. It helps me.

by Anonymousreply 40March 17, 2025 11:01 PM

I’m watching The Quiet Man on TCM and missing my dad. First St. Patrick’s Day without him.

I just read Ione Skye's memoir "Say Everything " and I have to say, it's a really good book.

She cheated on Ad-Rock with women (he caught her in the swimming pool with an Asian lesbian) and her baby daddy called her a has-been.

by Anonymousreply 45March 18, 2025 4:12 AM

I ordered a $29 Ichiran Ramen Kit from Amazon. It better be good.

by Anonymousreply 46March 18, 2025 2:05 PM

I'm making Chef John's Greek Lemon Chicken and Potatoes for dinner.

I made a korma. It was yummy. Used homemade cashew butter.

Why is ghee so expensive?

by Anonymousreply 48March 18, 2025 6:26 PM

I saw a cybertruck on the road for the first time and it was fishtailing all over the place. Either they handle really roughly or the driver was high.

by Anonymousreply 49March 18, 2025 6:30 PM

Thanks DL, when I get back from Wash DC( I fly out tonight) I'm going to make "Greek Lemon chicken& potatoes" recipe plus the Limoncello tiramisu. I never made that version of tiramisu. My neighbor makes the best lemon bars, cakes, and pies.

I already know how to make the Lemon drops.

by Anonymousreply 50March 18, 2025 6:55 PM

That Lemon chicken and potatoes sounds soooooo good!!

by Anonymousreply 51March 18, 2025 7:02 PM

It really is delicious and so easy to make, r51 and r50. I've made it many times over the years and everyone loves it.

I also serve it with tzatziki sauce on the side as he suggests at the end.

by Anonymousreply 54March 19, 2025 12:27 PM

I spent $40 on spices - three tiny containers - because they were “on sale”; I’m tired of substituting for nutmeg, anise, and clove berry.

by Anonymousreply 55March 19, 2025 12:31 PM

Breakfast today: leftover pulled pork and barbecue sauce from Germantown Commissary on a hotdog bun.

by Anonymousreply 56March 19, 2025 12:40 PM

[quote]’m tired of substituting for nutmeg, anise, and clove berry.

You must do this quite a bit for it to be so exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 57March 19, 2025 12:43 PM

Clove berry?

by Anonymousreply 58March 19, 2025 12:48 PM

Cloven hoof

by Anonymousreply 59March 19, 2025 6:13 PM

Many substitution suggestions end with “or use Oregano.”

Also, the berry has about eight of the little spiky clove pods. It’s supposed to go into a overly-involved soup base that cooks all afternoon, gets refrigerated, has the fat ladled off. All of this is done for something that takes me perhaps fifteen minutes to eat.

by Anonymousreply 60March 19, 2025 8:20 PM

I don’t think clove berries are a thing.

by Anonymousreply 61March 19, 2025 8:54 PM

I'm about to start (noon Eastern) a long weekend of watching the 2025 NCAA D1 Wrestling Championship.

by Anonymousreply 64March 20, 2025 3:32 PM

I have to attend a meeting of my local HOA and for some reason I'm nervous. Don't know why.

by Anonymousreply 67March 20, 2025 10:30 PM

I like cilantro.

As an added bonus, it has detoxifying properties.

by Anonymousreply 68March 21, 2025 5:36 PM

I have a craving for those little oranges, Cutie or Halo or whatever they are called. But I don't want a big bag. My cravings are quickly satisfied and I don't need that many. I suppose I could buy the big bag and then take some next door.

by Anonymousreply 69March 21, 2025 6:43 PM

I had fried chicken mashed potatoes and corn for supper.

by Anonymousreply 70March 22, 2025 5:45 AM

I need a new series to binge this weekend. Either Rome or Spartacus. Which one?

by Anonymousreply 71March 22, 2025 6:03 AM

Looks like so somebody likes movies about gladiators.

by Anonymousreply 72March 22, 2025 12:42 PM

Go with ROME-I never watched that series either.

by Anonymousreply 73March 22, 2025 4:03 PM

Maintenance is stripping an apartment’s flooring to the concrete. Somebody died and there was the smell of death in the hallway. Since, there has been a period of “Do I still smell death or is it a memory?” Now, it will be gone.

by Anonymousreply 74March 22, 2025 4:55 PM

I saw another stupid post about the 90s on a DL thread

by Anonymousreply 75March 22, 2025 5:03 PM

I have polished ten pairs of shoes and I’m now restricted to hightops until the laces dry.

It’s Breakdance2 Electric Boogaloo night. If I had bigger hair and a vulva I’d be set! Maybe a headband and lipgloss from a wand.

by Anonymousreply 76March 22, 2025 7:08 PM

Woke up to the sound of honking, Canada Geese are on the move.

by Anonymousreply 77March 22, 2025 7:38 PM

Watching the first Pirate movie again, what an incredible soundtrack.

Damn.

by Anonymousreply 78March 22, 2025 8:00 PM

I just opened a can of Le Sueur Sweet Peas, heated it up, drained and ate most of it. Nothing added and nothing else. That was my dinner.

I did however have a large, nice and proper lunch.

by Anonymousreply 79March 22, 2025 9:49 PM

Special K protein flakes

by Anonymousreply 80March 22, 2025 11:43 PM

I enjoyed the Liza documentary.

by Anonymousreply 81March 22, 2025 11:59 PM

I'm watching Wicked on Peacock.

by Anonymousreply 82March 23, 2025 12:09 AM

So I’m reading an article about Barcelona and how the citizens don’t want the tourists, bitches, what the fuck do you think keeps your city afloat??

The mind boggles as to how people can be so short-sighted and naive about their cities. I thought the same thing about Hawaii after the devastating fires and how people were saying to the tourists that they should leave.

What the hell? Languish in your poverty. If you can afford it, leave for the period of time that tourism is the heaviest.

Or am I an idiot for thinking like this? 🤷🏻‍♀️

by Anonymousreply 83March 23, 2025 12:37 AM

I love canned corn, peas, green beans right out of the can for a snack. I just don’t like lugging a whole crate from the store.

by Anonymousreply 84March 23, 2025 1:33 AM

Why don't you come up sometime and see me?

by Anonymousreply 85March 23, 2025 1:41 AM

I was excited to watch a bunch of Netflix series. I got into Beef , Black Mirror, The Watcher…. Then I realized how many combine comedy with bloody violence like Pulp Fiction. I can’t flip back and forth between that kind of emotional chaos over and over in a series. It’s fucking exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 86March 23, 2025 1:41 AM

You can make some neat things with tangerines. I used part of my bag on tangerine beef and a whole tangerine upside down cake.

by Anonymousreply 87March 23, 2025 1:48 AM

Tonight I’m making hot spaghetti tossed with fresh tomatoes, garlic, pepper flakes, olive oil, splash of red wine vinegar and grated Romano.

by Anonymousreply 88March 23, 2025 1:51 AM

To R87-You DL people make me very hungry. Tangerine Beef and Tangerine Upside down cake-YUMMY!!

Also, you have great recipes& made me a much better cook.

I borrow all your recipes.

by Anonymousreply 89March 23, 2025 2:03 AM

Someone on another thread called me "Patti Lupone". Is that a compliment or an insult?

by Anonymousreply 90March 23, 2025 2:50 AM

Were you reading a whore for filth or discussing how well you work with children and the retarded?

by Anonymousreply 91March 23, 2025 6:10 AM

R83 You’re an idiot, to answer your question. Have you ever been on La Rambla? It looks like Times Square on New Years Eve at 10 am on a weekday. AirBnB “vacation rentals” have increased the local rents by 68%. The people of Barcelona can’t afford to live there so they can’t work there. La Sagrada Familia (the cathedral) requires reservations. There’s such a thing as overtourism and Barcelona, like too many other popular destinations (see Mykonos in the summertime) are overrun to the point where it sucks for the tourists let alone the residents.

Space is finite. There have to be limits on both the day-trippers and the overnight stays or even more popular destinations like Barcelona will be exponentially more unpleasant to visit than they already are now. Even the head taxes (per night per room; per arriving EasyJet and Ryanair passenger; per each and every cruiseship passenger stopping for the day - 3000 pax per ship times 8 ships a day! and double the fee for sailing to or from BCN) won’t stop them and what could the city spend the money on - more ways to accommodate more touristas? Nah.

by Anonymousreply 92March 23, 2025 10:14 AM

When preparing a cheese board, you should have an odd number of cheeses, 3, 5, 7, etc.

by Anonymousreply 93March 23, 2025 4:25 PM

When hosting, chuck generic vodka and gin service over by the antipasto board and add a cheeseball.

You’ll have plenty of time to deglaze the pan, whip up your sauce, rest and cut your roast.

by Anonymousreply 94March 23, 2025 4:46 PM

The idea that thriving cities depend on tourism is wrong. Yes, they contribute to the economy and some jobs depend on them, but life without them is a trade off most people in heavily touristed areas would gladly make.

by Anonymousreply 95March 23, 2025 4:46 PM

I cooked a beef stew in my Dutch oven last night and burned the bottom. I knew it would be a bitch to clean, but man . . .

by Anonymousreply 96March 23, 2025 5:18 PM

96 are talking about sex?

by Anonymousreply 97March 23, 2025 5:30 PM

No. My beef stew is celibate.

by Anonymousreply 98March 23, 2025 5:31 PM

R96 I stopped cooking for many reasons. That is one of them.

by Anonymousreply 99March 23, 2025 6:13 PM

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go home and jerk off my severely mentally & physically disabled son!

by Anonymousreply 100March 23, 2025 9:08 PM

Sometimes when I'm rooting around my fridge or cupboards or pantry, I'll just randomly shake various condiments, vinegars and asian sauces I haven't used in a while to revitalize them.

by Anonymousreply 101March 23, 2025 9:46 PM

I just watched, for the first time, the movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".

by Anonymousreply 102March 23, 2025 9:56 PM

Thanks to the poster upthread I made Greek potato's last night and had some leftovers for lunch. Delicious. Today I made roasted cauliflower soup.

by Anonymousreply 103March 23, 2025 10:57 PM

Let that be a lesson to you - you little hussy you!

Home wrecker!

by Anonymousreply 104March 23, 2025 11:12 PM

You're welcome, r103. Glad you liked it. It's a regular in my dinner rotation.

by Anonymousreply 105March 24, 2025 2:56 PM

To R102, I haven't watched that movie yet-maybe later.

by Anonymousreply 106March 24, 2025 3:32 PM

I thought I had ground beef, but it was chuck steak. I flounced and then I minced it up, sautéing it with carrot, celery, shallot, and garlic to make my McCormick chili bean soup.

The finished product tasted like my previous chilis, but lacked fat. I added beef bullion and it was complete. It could use more cumin, but I’m afraid of fucking up what I have.

by Anonymousreply 107March 24, 2025 3:47 PM

Playing with your ass should count for something

by Anonymousreply 108March 24, 2025 4:16 PM

This morning one of my local churches had a "Church for Sale" sign out. I started singing "Love for Sale" substituting "church" for "love" and it worked.

by Anonymousreply 109March 24, 2025 4:20 PM

I'm re-watching The Sopranos.

by Anonymousreply 110March 24, 2025 4:42 PM

I just read about Dairy Face. I think that’s been one of my problems. I’ve always been a mik freak and never had problems. That’s changed as I’ve grown older and become lactose intolerant. I cut down o milk just because of the expense of all groceries and my eye bags do seem to look better. I never understood why I had bags except my dad did. But I’ve noticed ice cream can really mess up my guts.

by Anonymousreply 111March 24, 2025 9:14 PM

Don’t eat a half gallon

by Anonymousreply 112March 24, 2025 9:18 PM

[quote] I thought I had ground beef, but it was chuck steak.

Huh?

by Anonymousreply 113March 24, 2025 9:36 PM

[quote] Don’t eat a half gallon

Fortunately, “half gallons” these days are 3/8ths of a gallon, so there’s no problem.

by Anonymousreply 114March 24, 2025 9:38 PM

Can I have some free money?

by Anonymousreply 115March 24, 2025 9:43 PM

I decided to take advantage of an Uber Eats offer of 50% off fruit and veg and bought a load of healthy salad produce and fruit to form the basis of healthy meals and snacks all weeks. Then Uber offered me a discount on sdelivery from nearby restaurants, so I spent £15 on burgers and ice cream for dinner tonight.

by Anonymousreply 116March 24, 2025 9:45 PM

Stupid

by Anonymousreply 117March 24, 2025 9:49 PM

I made wilted spinach salad for dinner last night. With apples instead of mushrooms. This is the kind of cooking I’m best at. I look around my kitchen and see what I already have and do it. Seems like when I try to follow a recipe exactly it never quite turns out. 1/2 bag leftover spinach, bacon in freezer, fresh apples before they get soft….i see I could make cucumber salad and carrot raisin too.

by Anonymousreply 118March 24, 2025 10:12 PM

I did end up getting a 5 lb. bag of the Cutie mandarin oranges. Kept half, took the other half next door in one of their bowls I needed to return to them anyway.

He was pleased and told me to wait at the door a minute and then came back with a plate of food. They had just finished dinner. They barbecued and he gave me chicken, ribs, mac n cheese and salad.

I got the better end of that exchange.

by Anonymousreply 119March 24, 2025 11:57 PM

Got arthritis pain in my neck and can't sleep. I've taken all the drugs already.

by Anonymousreply 120March 25, 2025 5:39 AM

I made deviled eggs and they were delicious. I tried to watch Eyes Wide Shut since I've never seen it but had to shut it off after 30 minutes. What a bore.

by Anonymousreply 121March 25, 2025 6:00 AM

I am obsessed with a new Rick Astley song. Yes, yes...he of Rick Roll fame.

by Anonymousreply 122March 25, 2025 7:51 AM

R113, r107 thought the package contained ground beef, but it didn't. It held chuck steak. Why the "Huh?" Are you not familiar?

The big cat went for his checkup and shots today. He's too big! Need to lose 2-4 lbs. If he doesn't gnaw my fingers off I will post his progress. He's currently sitting on the dresser facing the wall and looking at ?? My god, he is exhausting. Poor fat baby.

by Anonymousreply 125March 25, 2025 8:03 AM

My two favorite lines from DL:

“Why’re you eating so many pies fattie?”

“My beef stew is celibate.”

by Anonymousreply 126March 25, 2025 8:05 AM

[quote]He's too big! Need to lose 2-4 lbs.

by Anonymousreply 127March 25, 2025 10:42 AM

I think I'll make cookies and cream cookies this weekend: they're regular cookies with Oreo chunks instead of chips.

Every time I get blood work at the doctor's office they come back and tell me I carry the antibodies for German measles (rubella).

They get so excited about it, they're practically shouting and dancing. I had German measles when I was 13. My siblings said I had Nazi cooties.

I put boiled chicken breasts in the food processor and grind them to dust. Then I lightly smear a custard dish with Duke's mayonnaise and dust the mayo with the chicken powder. My cat is usually too dignified to howl about food but she loses all self respect when she sees the Dukes jar. Mind you there is less than a half teaspoon of mayo in the little custard dish but she ends up with chicken dust all over her face and whiskers. After cleaning herself for an hour she takes a long nap.

I got the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella aka German measles) vaccine today. I'm sure I got it as a child but the records are long gone and with measles cases surging it seems like a good idea.

My mother got German measles in the late 1950s when she was pregnant with what would have been a sibling of mine and she was approved to get a legal abortion. The fetus turned out to have serious deformities. Banning abortion AND discouraging vaccines is fucked up by an order of magnitude.

I added browned tomato paste to a pasta sauce I simmered for two hours. It tastes very good without any Parmesan cheese added.

Growing up, this was the mystery. If my mom pulled out navy beans and cumin, it was chili. If she pulled out oregano and garlic cloves, it was spaghetti.

I think I’m going to use part for spaghetti and then the other part for rolled up lasagna noodles -like pinwheels. I could alternate spinach/cheese - perhaps use two noodles for portion size and effect.

[quote]R24 Watching The Devil Wears Prada again and wondering why Andie told Emily she wouldn’t be going to Paris. Clearly with her injuries she wouldn’t be going

Okay - potentially whelming to discuss - but that plot point of Emily getting mad at Andie personally for filling in overseas is ridiculous… AS IS Miranda later chiding Andie that she had a choice about it.

Yes, Miranda, your employee had the choice to instead get fired, lose her apartment, and go live under a bridge.

by Anonymousreply 179March 28, 2025 7:59 PM

R24, I believe Andie told her as she was crossing the street which caused her to not pay attention and get hit. Andie went to hospital to see how Emily was doing.

R179, I agree about Miranda. She specifically said to Andie that, if she didn't go, she wasn't serious about working at the magazine OR "anywhere else for that matter." Emily had already told Andie about the assistant that screwed up and was now working at TV Guide or some other less-than-elegant magazine. I wouldn't think I had a snowball's chance in Hell of working at ANY publication if I crossed Miranda.

The dish as a whole, with the shrimp, red pepper and wine topping was still pretty good.

I went to the cruisy part of the Arboretum here in Seattle today because it was so lovely out. The parking lot was full but not with cruisers...mostly people walking or running or taking their dogs for a walk. The ground wasn't too muddy and the air had that fresh springy smell....it was nice being out and getting a bit of exercise.

The 3 other Friends of Dorothy I saw were (older) men around my age. No one seemed particularly interested in the others. We were just enjoying the spring day.

There was one younger fellow (40 instead of 60) tweaker type with baggy pants exposing half his ass but...no. I didn't get particularly near him but could smell him from 12 feet away.

I’m watching the new All Quiet On The Western Front. CGI. So much. And a very high tech “score” of three doom -filled notes. Really makes you appreciate the old art of real filmmaking.

by Anonymousreply 263April 4, 2025 8:14 AM

Down to normal spring temps today... 12°C (54°F). It's still sunny though, so that's nice. No rain in sight for the next 10 days, which is not good as it's very dry right now.

Tonight I'm watching "Hit Man". I don't care for Glen Powell, but it's a good movie and I need to be underwhelmed after the previous viewings.

My brother made beef vegetable stew today, a family favorite, and he got FAHNCY with it and added extra spices and it ended up not as good as usual and very underwhelming which was disappointing because I had been looking forward to it.

But, the cornbread was good.

by Anonymousreply 279April 5, 2025 6:54 AM

R279, FAHNCY stews are to be prepared one to two days in advance.

If I have to locate a spice’s location at the market, I know there’s going to be hours of full refrigeration marrying time before the dish tastes as good as I imagined. FAHNCY spices are seldom used because they require extra babysitting time.

It’s would be whelming for the entire family to descend upon the brother’s tupperware bowl of finished beef vegetable stew, but it would be tasty.

I am a slave to my espresso machine. It always is demanding that I do something to it. Add water. Remove coffee pucks. Change filter. Clean me!

by Anonymousreply 281April 5, 2025 12:59 PM

My percolator treats me like a bitch and calls me Felix Unger - the basket and rim of the pot try to burn me simply because I’m cleaning in a timely manner.

I’m doing two gym classes this morning. I was feeling ambitious last night when I registered for both. Having my coffee (made in a pour-over beaker, no moving parts or demands) and working on my motivation to get the the gym.

I got a text this morning from the pharmacy saying a prescription was ready. I called to ask “what prescription?” because I hadn’t ordered anything this week. It was a second text about the eyedrops I haven’t picked up. I told them when I ordered them I’d get them this coming Monday when three more refills will be ready.

They sounded really rushed, probably because they’d just opened. Underwhelming for me but apparently overwhelming for them at 9:10 in the morning.

by Anonymousreply 287April 5, 2025 1:38 PM

I am engineering interior pockets for shirts. I need supplies that can be washed after each wearing and the medical industrial complex hates me.

The ostomy belts and covers they sell are made of backpack material and hard velcro. The bag itself has a plastic clip that tries to slice off the head of my dick. Each cover/belt costs $50 to hold and hide a bag of shit and they don’t hold up in the wash. The belt slips down because I don’t have a waist. Plus, they look like I should be riding a short bus and wearing corrective shoes..

Instead, I sew a pocket at stoma-height. My shirt now holds everything up and if I make adjustments, it looks like I’m scratching my belly.

I salvaged eight pockets from a busted James Perse sweat shirt. Very comfy, but I need a new cutting victim….the two shirts I like less are too thin; I want to match fabric weights.

I have more than satisfied my craving for Sausage Gravy and Biscuits for breakfast yesterday and today.

I won't be thinking about this again until probably 2026 if not longer.

But now I have a bag of Pillsbury frozen Southern Style Biscuits with 16 remaining biscuits in it. Started out with 20. I should not have bought the "value size" bag.

I see quite a few breakfast biscuit sandwiches in my future. Egg, cheese, bacon. Egg, cheese, ham, etc.

by Anonymousreply 298April 6, 2025 2:30 PM

I learned something new today, Australians eat kangaroo. It never occurred to me.

My brother has had kangaroo meat, it was in tiny sliders. In Tempe of all places.

I wouldn’t dare.

Got my monthly pedicure this past Saturday. Not only do they do a fantastic job but they show an Asian soap opera on the 3 big-screen TVs (I think they're at least 42"). They put the English subtitles on for us Americans so we can understand the dialogue. It's quite riveting. Something about feudal lords and their wives and concubines; lots if scheming. I have to admit, it's quite engaging.

You have to give props to a theme song that includes the words 'vicissitudes' and 'athwart.'

by Anonymousreply 310April 7, 2025 12:57 PM

Damn R310, I want to watch that!

by Anonymousreply 312April 7, 2025 5:14 PM

R310, the show is called Empresses in the Palace. There are quite a few attractive men but I don't think there's any gay content. It's hard to tell when you're only in the massage chair for 40 minutes every 4-6 weeks.

I'm watching A Complete Unknown. I can't believe Timotay was nominated, for ANY awards, for his performance. I'm convinced he was shooting heroin on during the making of it.

The rest of the cast made up for it. I wonder if they had to prop him up or smack him awake between scenes.

by Anonymousreply 316April 9, 2025 1:24 AM

A Complete Unknown cost $60 million and made about $138 m. In contrast, the new Captain America cost $180 m and made about $410 m, and everybody jeered at what a bomb it was.

by Anonymousreply 317April 9, 2025 1:44 AM

Here's a weird thing I enjoy when it happens. I'll be driving and listening to a classic rock channel on the radio and think of a song I'd like to hear and it comes on a minute or two later. Cosmic.

by Anonymousreply 318April 9, 2025 3:53 AM

I didn't think the problem was Timmy’s performance as much as the fact that Dylan remains such a cipher. Hard to make a movie when no one seems to really know the main character.

by Anonymousreply 319April 9, 2025 4:15 AM

I was quite surprised when I went for my physical today that one of the questions on the tablet asked if I was sexually active. So this is a new question posed to Medicare recipients. There was no space for comments like none of your fucking business. Just a forewarning to my fellow boomers.

by Anonymousreply 320April 9, 2025 4:45 AM

I wouldn't have minded if it had been my doctor asking me but electronically is extremely impersonal. It's become a cold world.

I bought a dozen vacuum-pack storage bags for my winter clothes. First, I took all my clothes out of the closet and folded them neatly in my extra bedroom. Then, I washed all my summer clothes and hung them up. Now, I'm too tired to pack away my winter clothes.

But at least I was able to go through everything and donate to the Humane Society gift shop. I will vacuum seal the clothes this week. I already cleared a space in my closet for them.

Underwhelmed by my dreams last night. It was ALL about effing The White Lotus, a show I despise. It's been all over social media and it apparently got struck in my brain before I went to sleep last night.

Like the show, my dreams were blandly derivitive and repetitive all night long.

by Anonymousreply 334April 9, 2025 6:47 PM

I had a very strange dream. I had to bring a dish to some function, I was not home and I was scrambling. I found some tangerines from a fruit vendor on the street and was going to make some kind of salad with them but I was in some kind of Inn or Clubhouse and was searching in vain for a serving plate or bowl. For some reason this was very stressful.

by Anonymousreply 335April 9, 2025 7:53 PM

R335 334 here...it seems we both had fitful sleeps last night.

by Anonymousreply 336April 9, 2025 7:57 PM

I was out running errands and passed a Golden Corral and on a whim decided to eat there. Had a salad, meatloaf, brussel sprouts, fried chicken and barbecue chicken, a piece of chocolate cake, and a rice crispy treat square.

It was good but now I'm so full I can't run the rest of my errands.

by Anonymousreply 337April 9, 2025 10:45 PM

R337 Technically, you've been OVERwhelmed by food.

by Anonymousreply 338April 9, 2025 11:26 PM

I was starving and didn't want to eat anything I had. I was out of milk so I had to go to the store anyway and so I ended up buying some Stouffers meals.

I was just satiated AND underwhelmed by a sad baked chicken/mashed potato combo and was still hungry and heated up the potato au grautin meal and it was fine.

Mighty fine.

I might have some Lemon Oreos for dessert.

by Anonymousreply 339April 9, 2025 11:30 PM

I still love all you, all of my shoes

just a little bit less than I used to, my loves.

I feel the need for something like medium brown shit kickers - perhaps desert, but more rounded toe like motorcycle - with some stack for height and weight….

by Anonymousreply 340April 9, 2025 11:39 PM

I was noticing that the wall tiles at a certain Palm Springs hotel lunch spot were vaguely reminiscent of the stylized animated bird-family logo in the credits for “The Partridge Family.”

Two minutes later, who should saunter and dine 8 feet away? Danny Bonaduce.

Had I been a fan, that could have been mildly whelming.

by Anonymousreply 341April 9, 2025 11:47 PM

I've peed next to Danny Bonaduce!

I didn't peek so I have no level of whelmness to share.

by Anonymousreply 342April 10, 2025 12:00 AM

I would rather have peed next to David Cassidy in his prime. He was cute and supposedly had a big cock.

by Anonymousreply 343April 10, 2025 4:32 AM

by Anonymousreply 344April 10, 2025 3:56 PM

I'm in the office and the building cafeteria has baked salmon and cilantro rice. I asked the deli section if they had Dijon mustard the guy said yes. Unfortunately, it's NOT Dijon but Gulden's. I know it's First World problems but I thought I'd share.

by Anonymousreply 347April 10, 2025 6:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 348April 10, 2025 7:18 PM

Or wearing bracelets, r346. One of my favorite internet chefs wears both long sleeves and bracelets while cooking, and it makes me uncomfortable just to watch her.

by Anonymousreply 349April 10, 2025 7:20 PM

R346 and R349

You've triggered me! Long sleeves and in some older videos long, drapey, flowy, ruffled sleeves are just nuts. And, bracelets are bad but RINGS...they're the worst. So damn unsanitary.

The other thing that drives me nuts...the dudes who cook shirtless. And, just ALWAYS hang out at home without shirts. I mean, in summer, sure. But, in winter? Do they keep the thermostat at 90? And, yeah, you're fit but I don't want chest hair in my food.

Sigh. This is getting too whelmed.

by Anonymousreply 350April 10, 2025 8:52 PM

To R345, I Love Guldens mustard with hotdogs& burgers.

As long as the burgers& dogs are well-done!

I had to travel for work yesterday and today and was going to make a long weekend out of it. My niece usually watches my dog when (infrequently) travel without him. She was unavailable this week so I hired a dog sitter with great references to stay in our house until Sunday. She said everything is going well, except after dinner tonight, he just kept staring at the front door and won’t make eye contact with her. She is upset and can’t get him to interact, he is just staring at the door. I think my dog knows I was at a beach this evening without him. I think I am going to have to go home tomorrow so I don’t have a psychologically broken dog. Kind of whelming, actually. Other than that, I had a delicious dinner of halibut with a basmati rice pilaf and skinny asparagus spears.

by Anonymousreply 355April 11, 2025 2:29 AM

I just heard a doorbell ring. I’m in a hotel and nothing I watched on TV had a doorbell. Weird.

by Anonymousreply 356April 11, 2025 3:30 AM

It’s going to rain again this weekend. For the third weekend in a row. Cold, raw, windy wet rain.

by Anonymousreply 357April 11, 2025 3:45 AM

Bette Midler’s singing voice is a feature and not a defect. I will repeat this five times so I believe it. Love the woman, but that singing voice is oddly Midwestern - even on key, it’s flat.

by Anonymousreply 361April 11, 2025 3:49 PM

A critter got into my garbage bin. Glad it managed to get out or the smell would have been terrible.

by Anonymousreply 362April 11, 2025 4:20 PM

I have automatic car wash anxiety.

I can't get out of treating my car with an underbody flush. The road salt can corrode it.

With fear and dread, every move under duress, my hand shifts the transmission so I can inch forward to obey those intimidating green and red lights.

Then I sit there frightened and vulnerable, with only the car walls and windows to separate me from scary moving, wet, machinery accompanied by a thumping whoosh sound.

I think the whole experience should be part of a Halloween Haunted House tour and the sound be played over my garage loudspeaker during Trick or Treat.

by Anonymousreply 363April 11, 2025 4:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 364April 11, 2025 5:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 365April 11, 2025 5:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 366April 11, 2025 5:13 PM

Thank you, r64.

by Anonymousreply 367April 11, 2025 5:16 PM

R363, I totally understand. I'm always afraid it will stop halfway through or my windows aren't completely closed. I avoid those types of car washes whenever possible. I have one about 8 miles away that you have to get out of the car for. I prefer that one, even thouygh I have anxiety that my car won't come out. It's not rational but it is what it is.

by Anonymousreply 368April 11, 2025 6:39 PM

by Anonymousreply 370April 11, 2025 6:49 PM

R363, R368, I'm temped to post the YouTube clip of Dave Letterman taking a convertible through a car wash with the top down, but I don't want to increase your anxiety. Might be too whelming.

I'm out of state and don't know what the will says but my aunt tried to talk to my dad (I'm sure hilarity ensued) and was nasty to the social worker.

Don't know the nefarious plans taking place because my aunt, whom I've always been close to, is now acting like a grade A cunt.

So whelming.

This is when you find out what Auntie saw in the woodshed.

by Anonymousreply 378April 11, 2025 10:43 PM

I have a hose and wash my car in the driveway. It takes less time than it does to drive to and through and back from the car wash. In the winter it has to go to the drive-through maybe once a month to get the salt off.

by Anonymousreply 379April 11, 2025 11:03 PM

The self-serve spray stations were always my favorite when I owned cars. My cleaning addiction mixed with a half-pint of Jim Beam meant a very clean interior and exterior of old Volvos.

by Anonymousreply 380April 11, 2025 11:12 PM

I am not saying that driving a volvo excuses drunk behavior, but the cars give you added grace with other drivers and the police.

by Anonymousreply 381April 11, 2025 11:22 PM

Hold On- by Wilson Phillips gets me so nostalgic for the 90s. So nostalgic that I can cry

by Anonymousreply 382April 12, 2025 12:29 AM

I'm watching The Unauthorized Melrose Place Story. Yesterday I watched Behind The Camera: Charlie's Angels. The same actor played Aaron Spelling in both.

by Anonymousreply 383April 12, 2025 12:32 AM

I forgot to feed the cats before the opera.

by Anonymousreply 384April 12, 2025 6:01 AM

I officially have Easter break from work! Yay! Gonna go for a hike today. Have to enjoy the nice weather while it lasts because it's supposed to be raining all Easter. Good thing I don't have any plans, lol (except cleaning the house).

by Anonymousreply 385April 12, 2025 6:42 AM

I'm glad somebody has nice weather, we woke up to a winter wonderland in New England.

by Anonymousreply 386April 12, 2025 11:30 AM

I’m a city boy with no need for cars, but those Mazdas sure are pretty. They always make the most attractive cars and Chevy copies them five years later - with American stupidity.

by Anonymousreply 387April 12, 2025 1:58 PM

Another lovely day here. Sunny and warm. 18°C (64°F). It will rain tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 388April 12, 2025 2:22 PM

I made myself a BLT with American cheese for lunch. I quite enjoyed it. I might have another one tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 389April 12, 2025 9:18 PM

I just saw six deer across the street in the woods. I had raked up a massive amount of acorns last fall from my yard and threw them in there and they found them. Good.

by Anonymousreply 390April 12, 2025 10:53 PM

It’s raining again, on and off.

by Anonymousreply 391April 12, 2025 10:57 PM

It was lovely yesterday and I took a long walk at a riverside park that happens to be cruisy.

All the other men there were my age and shape.

Thus, underwhelming.

by Anonymousreply 392April 12, 2025 11:06 PM

I can't find the movie Mrs. Harris anywhere. The HBO movie that stars Annette Bening and Ben Kingsley. I might have to go to the video store which is 14 miles away.

by Anonymousreply 393April 13, 2025 3:05 AM

Saw a Smiths tribute band, it was so good! Planted some seeds for peppers and thinking about Easter baking.

by Anonymousreply 394April 13, 2025 11:56 AM

All that in one day?

by Anonymousreply 395April 13, 2025 12:28 PM

I’m planning a brisket for Easter, plus some potato salad and asparagus.

I’m also making Ina’s carrot cake and a cake called Lady Baltimore cake.

by Anonymousreply 396April 13, 2025 3:46 PM

So I’ve been watching some parts of the performance from Lady Gaga at Coachella, my god, she’s fucking fantastic!!

She did a whole concert set!!

I thought that festival was just a few songs by each performer. She probably did a whole run thru for her tour.

Amazing. Is there a thread for this? I was definitely overwhelmed.

by Anonymousreply 397April 13, 2025 5:46 PM

This is the Datalounge, r397 OF COURSE there is a thread about it!

I’m beat. More spring cleaning. I sweat like a mop and this summer will be terrible like last one. I pretty much stayed indoors and did the miniatures for my vintage dollhouse. Now it’s furnished so I have to start some other craft. Vintage jewelry decor. Or painting little people and animals for the dollhouse.

by Anonymousreply 400April 14, 2025 3:17 AM

My wooden rocking chair that I bought from The Shakers decades ago is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I have cushions on the seat and back and it is so comforting.

by Anonymousreply 401April 14, 2025 4:07 AM

I can't decide whether I want to get Jumpspeak. I always see ads on Instagram about how people become fluent in a few months but I don't know if it's bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 402April 14, 2025 5:16 AM

Tired after my spin class. But it feels good. It's sunny and warm today after rain yesterday. It's currently 15°C (59°F). Not too bad.

by Anonymousreply 403April 14, 2025 8:20 AM

Started a "Happy Back" yoga challenge for my achy lower back this morning. I used to do yoga a lot when I was younger, so I hope there's some muscle memory left.

by Anonymousreply 404April 14, 2025 12:16 PM

I usually place my grocery delivery order on Fridays but I think I should order on Thursday this week due to the holiday.

by Anonymousreply 405April 14, 2025 1:01 PM

I made muesli.

by Anonymousreply 406April 14, 2025 1:41 PM

Why are "flying Fish" in space news this morning?

by Anonymousreply 407April 14, 2025 1:48 PM

r402, it's highly unlikely that any language learning program will make you fluent in a few months, but you can learn a lot if the method you use works for you. I taught myself basic German using Pimsleur audio lessons and a book called German Quickly (which I think was designed for Lutheran ministers in training.)

by Anonymousreply 408April 14, 2025 2:13 PM

The painters just arrived. They'll be doing the interior of my whole house this week (it NEEDS it!) My cat has vanished. I've set up temporary quarters for us in the garage in case she comes looking for me.

by Anonymousreply 409April 14, 2025 2:22 PM

My cataract surgery is tomorrow morning - I'm really nervous about it.

by Anonymousreply 410April 14, 2025 4:12 PM

Best of luck, r410!

by Anonymousreply 411April 14, 2025 4:15 PM

Kevin Lee Jacobs is serving honeydew melon wrapped in prosciutto for his Easter Brunch. I don't know where he is getting good tasting honeydew in April in upstate NY.

by Anonymousreply 412April 14, 2025 4:50 PM

Cataract surgery is pretty routine. You’ll be fine.

by Anonymousreply 413April 14, 2025 5:36 PM

To R410-Don't sweat it sis, it's easier than I used to be!! Left eye fixed at Penn, it was almost a double cataract.

Right eye done in LA-simple basic cataract surgery; I have 20/20 vision in both eyes. I wore contacts for 42 years since the late 80s. Have reader glasses if I need them, he tells me "wear ur fucking glasses all the time when its sunny or not". Dr told me to stop eye-fucking his resident, smoking hott Asian man.

by Anonymousreply 414April 14, 2025 6:39 PM

Out of milk so ran over to the Kroger to grab some and look for something to make for dinner.

The price of all the meat was underwhelming. Or, overwhelming.

$9.99 for HAMBURGER.

Ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 415April 14, 2025 8:48 PM

R410 when it’s over you’ll go “piece of cake.” The anticipation is worse than the execution. The meds are nice, too. Sunglasses become a necessity, not an accessory, but you’ll see the difference.

I had it done 20 years ago and have never looked back.

by Anonymousreply 416April 14, 2025 10:40 PM

I'm watching the Mel Gibson movie What Women Want and all I can focus on is his and Helen Hunt's apartments and how much they would cost.

[quote]R396 ... and a cake called Lady Baltimore cake.

This is Martha Stewart's favorite and her mother used to make it for her birthday, growing up.

I don't know why I know this.

by Anonymousreply 419April 15, 2025 6:19 AM

Thanks, R419.

The figs and raisins and brandy intrigue me the most.

I saw a recipe for a chiffon cake but looks like a pain to make.

by Anonymousreply 420April 15, 2025 6:50 AM

R419 Uh, because you're gay and the knowledge of Martha Stewart's favorite cakes is in our DNA.

Also, that clips from her show where Martha and her mom make the cake pops up on social media a lot if you follow Martha or other famous cooks.

by Anonymousreply 421April 15, 2025 7:42 AM

Had my cataract surgery - thanks for the kind words everyone! It was weird, they don't put you completely out and so you're aware that they're doing something to your eye, but it wasn't too bad. Still blurry at the moment, though.

by Anonymousreply 422April 15, 2025 2:57 PM

Glad you got it over with, R422!

by Anonymousreply 423April 15, 2025 3:57 PM

Another nice day here and fairly warm with 16°C (61°F). Partly sunny, well, mostly overcast but some sun too. It will rain a lot tomorrow, almost every day the next week, ugh. Not ready to let go of this nice weather we've had lately, but it is very dry, so we could use some rain. I guess it's a good thing after all.

by Anonymousreply 424April 15, 2025 4:08 PM

I qualified for a free protein (ham, turkey breast, Kosher chicken, or ham) at Shop Rite and a have decided to donate it to the local mission that helps homeless men. I'll pick up some canned string beans and drop them off on Friday. I could get the 96 oz Stouffer's lasagna but I"m not sure about that. Any thoughts? Definitely won't get the tofurkey as they have suffered enough.

I've got some Omaha sirloin steaks and will have one of those for Easter dinner with a good red wine. Any recommendations for no more than $30/bottle? I'm thinking maybe a nice Brunello.

by Anonymousreply 425April 15, 2025 7:08 PM

That's very nice of you Cosmo R425.

IMO Robert Mondavi or Apothic makes good wines. Available at grocery stores, usually less than $20/bottle, though their better ones may be in the $20s.

The other ones are 50 minutes and 90 minutes away. Some movies you just can't find on YouTube or other streaming platforms.

Mr and Mrs Goosie (Canada Geese) are back on the lake for year four. He's swam over looking for me while she's on the nest. He's spotted my dog and is probably wondering where I am. Tomorrow, I'll go out and throw some bread to him. He'll love it as always. When I talk to him he makes sounds which I interpret to mean More!

by Anonymousreply 431April 16, 2025 3:04 AM

I pulled up the old made-for-tv movie thread and found 13 movies I wanted to watch. I've seen 3 already, only 10 more to go.

by Anonymousreply 432April 16, 2025 5:40 AM

Just came home from my spin class. It's pouring down. It has rained a lot! We need it though, it was very dry. But this weather sucks. Typical that it starts to rain just as my Easter break starts, lol.

by Anonymousreply 433April 16, 2025 10:03 AM

I had an over easy egg and a slice of toast for breakfast.

On the "Things that creep you out" thread someone mentioned that over easy eggs creeped them out. I thought of that Datalounger as I ate my creepy egg.

by Anonymousreply 435April 16, 2025 12:32 PM

Thank you, R425 and R426, for the wine suggestions. I've always loved Robert Mondavi cabernet; I'll look for the Oberon cab.

I've been drinking Feudi del Duca Montepulciano D'Abruzzo for ages but would like to try something new.

by Anonymousreply 438April 16, 2025 2:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 439April 16, 2025 8:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 440April 16, 2025 9:02 PM

by Anonymousreply 441April 16, 2025 9:11 PM

My two forays in the car today were successful and brief. I went from a space right out front into the library, got the two books they were holding me checked out and was back in the car and pulling into traffic again in less than five minutes. Likewise the a trip for groceries because at 8 am there’s more bread and chips/snacks guys filling the shelves than customers in the store. I had 19 items in the 20 items or less line and I was out of there in about ten minutes. Jorsue, the checkout guy, was sporting tangerine nail polish this morning.

by Anonymousreply 446April 17, 2025 12:27 AM

Nope, I’m at home as well, R446.

Maybe in June I’ll go see the Dodgers play in Denver. The closest to me, except the Diamondbacks, but Phoenix, in the summer 🥵

by Anonymousreply 447April 17, 2025 12:45 AM

To R446, when I go home to La Jolla, I am on vacation.

With my ex-in-laws there with the sailboat, it's even better. Then, Lake Forest in August

God, I love America!

by Anonymousreply 448April 17, 2025 1:06 AM

I'm underwhelmed about a decision I made in January to do some closet reorganizing and makings a terrible choice to place the tub with my summer shorts WAY in the back of the closet. I just spent half an hour playing Closet Tetris to dig them out and then put everything back together again.

And, after all that, I'm betting it's going to go back to being much cooler and I won't be needing shorts again until June.

by Anonymousreply 449April 17, 2025 1:38 AM

I have time off for a vacation in July. I really want to go to New Orleans to see the cemeteries, plantations, haunted places, and go on swamp and voodoo tours but I'm afraid it will be too hot and humid.

by Anonymousreply 450April 17, 2025 6:43 AM

R450 If you're worried about it, then you obviously aren't a fan of hot and humid...and, NO in the summer is a swampy death oven.

Go in November.

by Anonymousreply 451April 17, 2025 7:45 AM

Yes, it will be hot and humid. If you take R451's advice and go in November, you can go to the racetrack too.

by Anonymousreply 452April 17, 2025 8:40 AM

I haven’t needed a car in eight years, but I just found out Volvo is no longer producing sedans for the US market.

I owned three over a 20 year period- people treated me like a pastor - cops didn’t stop me, people yielded to let me in line. They were the most reliable boring cars.

An era of suburban heaven has ended for all of us.

by Anonymousreply 453April 17, 2025 11:52 AM

R450, I've been watching Treme on HBO and also want to go to New Orleans. I doubt I'll go this year as I have family in NC that I would like to visit.

To R456-learn to LOVE your new job& if you get the CEO job, run with it. Get the perks that cum with the job.

To R450, R451, and R452, are absolutely fucking correct-it is a "SWAMPY DEATH OVEN" in July and August. However, I was in NO in Halloween years ago for a conference & it was a "SWAMPY DEATH OVEN" weather wise. Plus the streets stunk like rotting garbage. Remember, it will be crowded. Have fun!

R455 are your ankles swollen? Is it 5 pounds or more?

by Anonymousreply 458April 17, 2025 11:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 459April 18, 2025 1:55 AM

It's sunny today after a couple of rainy days. Going for a hike. Gonna enjoy this nice weather on my day off.

by Anonymousreply 460April 18, 2025 6:00 AM

My cousin is bringing me Rice Pie and Pizza Rustica today. I'm so thankful she keeps up these traditions since I've become too lazy to do so.

by Anonymousreply 461April 18, 2025 12:28 PM

Your cousin sounds like a fine person, r461.

Never heard of Rice Pie before, it sounds delicious!

by Anonymousreply 462April 18, 2025 12:34 PM

I had a Dole Acai bowl for breakfast. It was good.

by Anonymousreply 463April 18, 2025 1:34 PM

I was going to order a Chocolate Bunny Moose Cake to bring to my friend's house for Easter Sunday but that cake is somewhat small. I have therefore ordered a very large chocolate moose cake which the bakery will decorate with all of the Easter doo dads and it's such a great big cake there will be plenty of leftovers which I will happily take home.

by Anonymousreply 464April 18, 2025 2:54 PM

The amount of people who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom is horrifying. Those sinks and the hand soap aren't just for decoration, you know.

by Anonymousreply 465April 18, 2025 3:17 PM

Another horror- nested toilets

by Anonymousreply 466April 18, 2025 5:46 PM

There's a Goldfinch and a Cardinal eating the sunflower seeds I put out. Gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 467April 18, 2025 7:28 PM

I made carnitas for the first time two nights ago and we're just finishing up the leftovers today. For a gay old white man, they come out pretty good. I found two recipes online and combined them to get what I wanted. Later, I felt a bit annoyed that I didn't seek out actual MEXICAN recipes (the two I used were from generic white ladies who cook and have blogs type sites) and did more research into it so I can make even better ones next time.

by Anonymousreply 468April 18, 2025 7:41 PM

While there are many interracial (black white) coupling among gay men and straight couples, I've never seen an interracial lesbian couple

by Anonymousreply 469April 19, 2025 2:10 AM

I love rice pie and pizza rustica (we call it pizza chiena). I generally make pizza rustica but we're on vacation for Easter this year. I did make ma'amoul for Eid al Fitr (no, I'm not Muslim, just an excuse to make delicious cookies). Another good Italian Easter specialty is wheat pie. It's similar to rice pie, but made with wheat berries. Don't ask me what those are. I but them in the Italian market already cooked.

I miss doing drugs. I used to party all night doing coke, meth, you name it. Now I'll be 59 in a few months and haven't been out in ages. I just stay home and read, watch TV, and putter around the house.

I lost contact with all my hook-ups. Isn't there a Silk Road type of website that I can get drugs from? Anyone?

I had a dream last night that there was a whale in my basement.

It was bizarre that this whale was surviving in the basement with no water to swim in, just gliding around sans water and banging against the door wanting to come upstairs. Also bizarre that I had a basement as I don't have one in real life. The house was my actual house just with an added basement.

I was on a rotary dial, green landline phone calling various places trying to find someone to remove Moby Dick from my basement while wiping sweat from my face with a handkerchief. I was also flipping through a yellow pages phone book looking for whale movers or whatever which was very retro.

Bizarre.

by Anonymousreply 474April 19, 2025 12:39 PM

[quote]trying to find someone to remove Moby Dick from my basement

Words I never thought to see on the Datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 475April 19, 2025 12:51 PM

To R474, were you using a pencil, pen or dialing apparatus while on your green landline phone? What color Green and was the phone attached to the wall or on the bureau!! What was the whales name, boy or girl?

by Anonymousreply 476April 19, 2025 2:12 PM

The phone was like the one in this photo r476 and situated on the console table behind my sofa. The green did not match my gray and white decor at all. I didn't notice a dialing apparatus as I was busy wiping my forehead with a crisply pressed handkerchief. Open Yellow Pages books and papers strewn about the console table is very unlike me and made me want to clean up even in my dream.

I don't know if it was a boy or girl whale but I've decided to call it Moby.

by Anonymousreply 480April 19, 2025 4:03 PM

Basement = subconscious. You have a big happy secret you have been keeping from yourself that wants to come "upstairs" You may learn something about yourself or come to terms with some long held repressed memory very soon. Whale = water animal. Water = emotions. Absence of water = this is part of what you have put in storage so have not emotionally dealt with yet. I bet once the emotional floodgates opens, that whale will be washed upstairs and no longer suppressed! It will be a good thing!

by Anonymousreply 481April 19, 2025 4:06 PM

Went to the gym today and opened YouTube on the cross-trainer. The first recommendation that came up was Grey Gardens. How did the machine know I was a DLer?

by Anonymousreply 482April 19, 2025 5:30 PM

Woke up early (for me) and decided to walk the half block to the coffee shop/bakery for some pastry (which I don't need). Of course it was rather busy, which I expected...it's Saturday and it's the only decent place to grab coffee/pastry in the hood. But, there was this stupid couple taking forever to order and the shop girl, who was a big blonde, was just egging them on and they were all laughing and having a great time meanwhile the line gets longer and longer and soon it's snaking out the door and down the street because the fuckers ordering were stupid selfish twats and the shop girl was a moron. I stomped out.

So, I went to Kroger down the street and bought an overly sweet apple fritter which is killing me.

by Anonymousreply 483April 19, 2025 6:34 PM

r483, it takes a special breed of brazenness to blow off their work duties like that. I had co-workers who loved to socialize with their favorite customers while leaving me to run my ass off helping all the people who actually wanted service.

by Anonymousreply 484April 19, 2025 6:44 PM

R484 They were all oblivious. They were borderline Gen Z/Millennials. Tend to be awful at picking up signals that they are in the way/causing a problem/taking up too much space and time.

by Anonymousreply 485April 19, 2025 6:53 PM

R484,I was trained to provide very fast, error-free work for busy customers in the MidWest who had other things to do with their days.

When I moved to the PNW, coworkers clued me in that I was brusk. Out here, customers determine the speed and rhythm of the transaction.

It smells like cronyism when you watch your coworker change customer service personality with each transaction, but customers prefer it.

by Anonymousreply 486April 19, 2025 6:55 PM

SOME customers prefer it.

Others just want their fuckin' blueberry scone in a timely manner.

by Anonymousreply 487April 19, 2025 7:01 PM

^^Reminds me of the patisserie beignets owner in Barry who doles out philosophical advice to customers as the line snakes around the block outside.

by Anonymousreply 488April 19, 2025 7:15 PM

It reached 80 degrees today so I made my first pitcher of iced tea this year.

by Anonymousreply 489April 19, 2025 10:24 PM

It reached 80 degrees today so I washed the car and took the shop vac to the interior, removing a mild winter’s worth of sand and pebbles, mostly. And got dust out from the seats and surfaces. Then everything washed or wiped down and dried out, the glass and dash and inside and out. I have to learn to think like you, R489.

My husband did the middle color load of wash this afternoon which is now virtuously line drying.

We’re under the flight path for takeoffs with the windows open tonight. My neighbors have her parents here for Easter and their outdoor furniture is out already. Cushions and everything.

Two movies I would really like to see again: Scandal and The Krays. They both did an excellent job of recreating Britain in the 1960s. And you can watch nowhere.

I'm enjoying watching the Coachella livestreams on YouTube. But you couldn't pay me to ever go to a music festival again, especially one in the desert.

I went to a 50s diner for lunch and was thrilled that they had liver and onions on the menu. I haven't had that in years. It was delicious.

Our Queen Anne neighborhood is fiercely quaint After a decent lunch, I couldn’t bring myself to light a cigarette for fear of being educated by a concerned rich hippie. I notice this neighborhood still has post boxes and a lack of people nodding out in public. Must be nice….

Watched a YouTuber make french toast. After she was finished she took the leftover egg wash and made an omelette out of it. The omelette must be very sweet given the sugar in the egg mixture, I don't find this appetizing

by Anonymousreply 497April 20, 2025 2:17 PM

It's so gusty out there that the lake has white caps. There is one brave soul out there in a kayak but he's struggling. A shame because it's a sunny day but too brisk for my taste.

by Anonymousreply 498April 20, 2025 5:03 PM

I watched Jesus Christ Superstar to celebrate the Easter holiday and was reminded how incredibly sexy the 70s were with the longer hair on men, flat stomachs, lean muscles, and hip hugging bell bottoms. I may watch again.

by Anonymousreply 499April 20, 2025 9:13 PM

So I made the Lady Baltimore cake and the carrot cake.

I forgot to add vanilla to the carrot cake, hopefully it doesn’t make much of a difference.

The brisket has been cooking for about 3 hours and 3 more to go. It was a large 6 pound piece.

Happy Easter 🐣🐇 everyone!

by Anonymousreply 500April 20, 2025 9:16 PM

For Easter, I made brownies with Cadbury mini eggs in them. It turned out great.

R499 JCS is one of my favourite films. The men are so hot.

by Anonymousreply 502April 21, 2025 2:28 AM

Jesus was always shown to be one hot guy in pictures and in film. It's said he probably didn't look like that at all if he existed. Hey, I'm not saying he did or didn't but one must remember there's no proof. I like to think he did, he was cool.

by Anonymousreply 503April 21, 2025 2:45 AM

So I added a little more than the half a cup of brandy that was called for in the Lady Baltimore cake filling and it ended up too potent. 🫨

The cake was light and delicious and the frosting was just perfect. Not too sweet.

The carrot cake didn’t suffer from a lack of vanilla extract, so that was a relief.

The brisket was also delicious: tender and flavorful.

The only thing that was somewhat lacking was the potato salad, but at that point of the day I was too tired to care too much. It was still good.

by Anonymousreply 504April 21, 2025 3:35 AM

Archeologically speaking, w’re leaving behind a plastic layer.

Personally, I’m leaving behind a layer of coffee grounds. I sweep, I mop, I dust, repeat - still tiny motes of dead coffee on the counter, floor, and cabinetry.

My landlord and his crew are outside putting up ladders. Why, I can't imagine. Now we have to pull the shades and hide from them all day.

by Anonymousreply 506April 21, 2025 12:00 PM

I'm eating the other half of my plain bagel from Easter morning. Today, I had it toasted with cream cheese. Yesterday, I had it untoasted with butter.

Poutine for dinner!

As per usual, I couldn’t find cheddar curds so I’m stuck with mozzarella. My brown gravy is better than allrecipes, btw.

by Anonymousreply 511April 21, 2025 3:22 PM

Cosmo @ r507, the last bagel I had, I couldn’t decide between butter or cream cheese so I tried both on a quarter of it and holy cow was it good. I ended up eating the whole thing that way. Can’t make a habit of that though.

by Anonymousreply 512April 21, 2025 7:18 PM

We made a turkey breast for our Easter dinner. It was underwhelming.

I forgot I prefer dark meat. And, turkey breast is so fucking bland.

Also: the roles were store bought. And, sucked.

ROLLS!

Not "roles".

Egads...

by Anonymousreply 515April 21, 2025 9:37 PM

Speaking of rolls, my cousin asked if we had bread or tortillas for our dinner.

I told him we didn’t have any. Trying to cut out the carbs. We did have the potato salad but that was the only concession I made. Well. Besides the two cakes, of course. 😜

by Anonymousreply 516April 21, 2025 11:00 PM

My poutine sucked hairy balls because of the cheese. I’m used to squeeky white cheddar curd and I had to substitute little mozzarella balls and they are not a good substitution.

Speed is important in making a poutine. The bag had tinier bags inside - each containing three mozzarella balls. I lost valuable french fry heat while unwrapping bullshit cheese.

There’s a cheese shoppe in the tourist district. I could sneak through and see if they have curd.

by Anonymousreply 517April 22, 2025 3:48 AM

That's too bad, R517. Everybody has cheddar cheese curds in NE, even Aldi.

by Anonymousreply 526April 23, 2025 3:37 AM

We had a move-out today at my apartment and it was a show worthy oof my friends’ and family’s moving day dramas.

One person (male, 20s, skinny, hair) screamed for the first hour of the day, grabbed two tote bags and ran down stairs. He’s been on the nod/sleeping outside next to the family’s minivan all day.

My family and friend group always had someone who had to have a mental crisis on moving day so they didn’t have to haul boxes. It’s usually a guy and the age can be anything from six to 35. I stopped helping others move when I turned 40.

Small win alert! My 10 week old pug slept through the night and learned to sit and pee outside this week. She’s possibly the first smart pug I’ve had to date.

by Anonymousreply 531April 23, 2025 1:29 PM

Are those accomplishments considered signs of intelligence in pugs?

by Anonymousreply 532April 23, 2025 1:56 PM

I dunno, r532. My mom and my sister both learned to sit and pee at an early age.

by Anonymousreply 533April 23, 2025 2:19 PM

R532 My other pugs took far longer to learn these things, so I say yes!

It’s a team effort and we forget how far the animals have acclimated themselves to this living arrangement.

Good puppy!

by Anonymousreply 535April 23, 2025 4:05 PM

Pugs are stubborn dogs. They will work your last nerve until you're about to scream and then, suddenly, they'll start listening and behave. But not until the age of 2.

I made Marlene Dietrich’s goulash. I was pretty sure looking at the recipe that I would add stuff. I made it her way before tasting it and it’s really not my thing. 3 Tablespoons paprika and 3 of caraway seeds. It was hard to make something so relentlessly red that wasn’t chili or spaghetti sauce.

by Anonymousreply 538April 23, 2025 8:41 PM

Real Hungarian goulash is delicious. And, it's NOT made with hamburger.

by Anonymousreply 539April 23, 2025 8:56 PM

I meant to have a late lunch/early dinner at 4 before my 7 pm class at the gym but got busy at work and didn’t have time for anything other than a yogurt. I had some tuna on crackers and some grapes when I got home but am still hungry. I have to go to bed though.

I had a frosted cherry pop tart for breakfast. Apparently I've regressed to the age of ten.

Not normally something that is in my breakfast rotation. I fished the box of pop tarts out of my "emergency food stash". That's my stash of shelf stable food with long expiration dates for when the end of the world hits or a hurricane or power outage. The expiration date on this box of pop tarts is February 2026.

Now I'm debating if I should just transfer the box to my regular pantry section or put it back in the "emergency" section. I am leaning towards regular pantry.

Tattletales game show from the 1970s is ridiculous.

I accidentally ordered "Fabuloso" scented kitchen trash bags. The scent is overpowering and giving me a headache. These will have to be relegated to the wastebasket I have in the garage and that might not even be far enough away from my nose. People clean with this scent? It's overwhelming.

by Anonymousreply 559April 25, 2025 6:01 PM

R559, drop them in the goodwill bin now. Somebody will use them. There’s an off-putting plastic odor under a loud perfume. It lingers in strange places.

by Anonymousreply 560April 25, 2025 11:22 PM

For the several days my refrigerator smelled like bad fish. I cleaned the produce bins, the cheese area, and looked in the shelves. Nothing Checked the freezer too

Tonight, I found the culprit. A 2 month old shrimp package I bought at Whole Foods. It was wedged all the way in the back, stuck behind a shelf

Cleaned the whole refrigerator and it still slightly smells. Put a bowl of vinegar inside. Hope that helps

Dreading the 72 degrees it's supposed to be on Thursday...too soon for that much heat.

by Anonymousreply 594April 28, 2025 10:08 PM

Shouldn’t see 72 degrees in Seattle until June. August may give us one or two days of 89 degree weather and these folks will lose their minds. It’s still better than the MidWest.
