by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 22, 2024 2:40 AM |
Oprah wasn't on 480's list from the last thread.
When did she get on the speaking agenda?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 22, 2024 2:40 AM |
Michelle and Barack should have spoken on Wednesday.
They really blew away the crowd last night.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 22, 2024 2:41 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 22, 2024 2:42 AM |
I’m ready to vote now.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 22, 2024 2:43 AM |
Oprah is fired up!
She doesn't seem so phony in this speech, as she usually does.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 22, 2024 2:44 AM |
Is it me or is Oprah's voice gotten deeper over time? It sounds very deep, I'm sitting here listening to her without the video.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 22, 2024 2:45 AM |
R10 Oprah probably has some fiscal conservative views.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 22, 2024 2:45 AM |
Oprah at least can parody herself. That was a very good speech.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 22, 2024 2:46 AM |
I can remember watching Trump for years on Oprah many years ago, he was entertaining but even then I could see what a liar and fraud he was.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 22, 2024 2:46 AM |
Oh lord, I just can't with the "Just. Choose. JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY!!"
And "Kamala HAAAAAAAARRRISSSSSSSSS"

[quote] Of course she'd Independent. She foisted fatass Phil McGraw and quack Ozmet on us
To be fair, when they broke upon the scene, they sold themselves as men of science, good character and values. Alas, all white men reach an age and can only hear the clarion call of whatever crazy it is MAGA represent.

Wes Moore might be surprised, stupid r23.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 22, 2024 2:50 AM |
Pete is next. Then the Minnesota portion of the program begins
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 22, 2024 2:50 AM |
Why are they letting a governor whose negligence caused the bridge disaster on stage? People will be reminded of that cluster fuck.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 22, 2024 2:51 AM |
Sometimes I feel like I'm watching Veep. Or having watched Veep, I can't always take these speeches seriously. One or the other. Or both.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 22, 2024 2:51 AM |
[quote] No, I think it'll be Amy next and then Pete.
Will the audience be waving staplers when Amy comes out?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 22, 2024 2:51 AM |
Oprah’s “not going back” riff was really good.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 22, 2024 2:52 AM |
Any reports of Amy Klocbuchar hurling staplers at Pete?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 22, 2024 2:52 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 22, 2024 2:56 AM |
Yes, Pete!
by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 22, 2024 2:56 AM |
Shouldn't he have been introduced as Sec. of Transportation?
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 22, 2024 2:56 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 22, 2024 2:56 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 22, 2024 2:56 AM |
Pete is doing great — animated, smooth, relax, smart, funny.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 22, 2024 2:57 AM |
R59 Yeah, I wondered what was up with that.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | August 22, 2024 2:57 AM |

I’m quite serious that this may be the best one I’ve ever seen. And I really thought the virtual one in 2020 was cool.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | August 22, 2024 2:57 AM |
Pete really had a dental makeover.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | August 22, 2024 2:57 AM |
He’s doing great.
Is he growing a mustache?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | August 22, 2024 2:58 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 77 | August 22, 2024 2:59 AM |
[quote] Shouldn't he have been introduced as Sec. of Transportation?
Pete seems to be pretty devoted about not representing as the Sec of Transportation when he is appearing in a political situation.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | August 22, 2024 2:59 AM |
Will Pete's frenemy Eric Swawell speak at the DNC?
by Anonymous | reply 79 | August 22, 2024 2:59 AM |
Seeing Oprah speak here makes me wistful for what might have been if Marianne Williamson was able to squeak out the nomination. Oprah would certainly have had a plum position in a Williamson cabinet, most likely as the first ever Secretary of Peace.
I’m going to vote for Harris. And don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I’m going to have to hold my nose while doing so. But Williamson would have ushered in a return to Love and overseen a new Pax Americana. I’ll vote blue no matter who, but I think America really lost something by passing Marianne over, and this was probably her final rodeo.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | August 22, 2024 2:59 AM |
I have a crush on Pete. How lucky is his partner.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | August 22, 2024 2:59 AM |
R74's Mussy is twitching everyone, watch out!
by Anonymous | reply 82 | August 22, 2024 3:00 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 83 | August 22, 2024 3:00 AM |
Somehow I knew when he said basic that a Chasten story was coming.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | August 22, 2024 3:01 AM |
Is Gretchen Whitmer Pete's Michigan fag hag?
by Anonymous | reply 85 | August 22, 2024 3:01 AM |
I do too, R83. He's amazing.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | August 22, 2024 3:01 AM |
One reason he's effective is that he isn't shouting like so many others tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | August 22, 2024 3:01 AM |
Why does Pete live in Michigan?
Are he and Swalwell really frenemies? What’s that about?
by Anonymous | reply 88 | August 22, 2024 3:01 AM |
I bet Pete is a fun dad.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | August 22, 2024 3:01 AM |
Pete is SO going to get laid tonight.
I'm putting on my lacy bustier and lingerie for him tonight.
STUD.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | August 22, 2024 3:02 AM |
OK, I'm sold on Pete. He's truly grown in presence and likeability, and become a much better communicator.
I'd totally vote for a Moore/Buttegeig ticket. Two veterans, two family men, two brilliant intellects.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | August 22, 2024 3:02 AM |
I’m just going to ask that you get your MARY!’s out now for me. I am almost certain to cry when Kamala speaks tomorrow.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | August 22, 2024 3:03 AM |
Cute guy in purple egging Pete on from the audience.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | August 22, 2024 3:03 AM |
[quote] Why does Pete live in Michigan?
Pete and Chasten bought a house near Chasten's parents and live there now, there was no future for him in Indiana
by Anonymous | reply 94 | August 22, 2024 3:03 AM |
Go Pete!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 95 | August 22, 2024 3:03 AM |
Oprah would never have taken cabinet position of anyone-it’s all about her-bitch!
by Anonymous | reply 96 | August 22, 2024 3:03 AM |
Crowd loves him.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | August 22, 2024 3:03 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 100 | August 22, 2024 3:04 AM |
Pete managed to say what he needed to say without taking forever to do so.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | August 22, 2024 3:04 AM |
Rachel said something nice about Pete, he wins people over eventually.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | August 22, 2024 3:04 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 104 | August 22, 2024 3:05 AM |
R94: Shouldn’t they live in Maryland or Virginia? Are Chasten’s parents infirm?
by Anonymous | reply 105 | August 22, 2024 3:05 AM |
Mrs. Buttigieg, do you keep your husband's jock straps clean and pressed?
by Anonymous | reply 106 | August 22, 2024 3:05 AM |
I hope Walz is next.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | August 22, 2024 3:05 AM |
Go to bed, R103!!!
I'm rockin' out to LET'S GO CRAZY!!!
I love this vibe so much.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | August 22, 2024 3:05 AM |
Sheila E!! How cool is that!
by Anonymous | reply 109 | August 22, 2024 3:05 AM |
Ugh! John Legend?
by Anonymous | reply 110 | August 22, 2024 3:06 AM |
John Legend probably made sure the announcer mentioned his EGOT status.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | August 22, 2024 3:06 AM |
John Legend-break time-
by Anonymous | reply 112 | August 22, 2024 3:06 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 113 | August 22, 2024 3:06 AM |
Chasten's parents help with the kids when they are needed.

John is no Prince
by Anonymous | reply 115 | August 22, 2024 3:06 AM |

No, there's more. Only the East will go to bed before Walz speaks.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | August 22, 2024 3:06 AM |
Is that Sheila E? And why do they always have the main speaker on after 11:00 EST???
by Anonymous | reply 120 | August 22, 2024 3:06 AM |
DNC going down hill fast-no wonder we’re losing.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | August 22, 2024 3:07 AM |
John Legend bought his outfit from the Celine Dion Vegas residency costume auction.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | August 22, 2024 3:07 AM |
The organizers of this convention really know how to build the energy!
by Anonymous | reply 123 | August 22, 2024 3:07 AM |
John Legend asking to be introduced as "EGOT-winning" reminds me of how Ben Kingsley demanded to be introduced as "Sir Ben Kingsley" (and his wife as "Lady Kingsley")
by Anonymous | reply 124 | August 22, 2024 3:07 AM |
Ugh, John Legend and his weird looking, charisma-free self should know only Prince could do Prince.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | August 22, 2024 3:08 AM |

Go to bed, grandpa.

Who is the biological father of those kids? Pete or chasten?
by Anonymous | reply 147 | August 22, 2024 3:13 AM |
By the way, John Legend's guitarist was Ari O'Neal, and she's a badass.
She can be seen here in an awesome ad for Fender guitar, along with other notable guitarists.

I'm sorry but there's too much filler, and too much Kamala tonight when this was supposed to be about the VP. They should have had the top people Clinton, Pelosi, Booker, Shapiro, And this Wes guy from Maryland, Oprah, Pete, but they needed to get a really nice video on abut Tim, and then have some people talk about Tim, and then his speech. In Chicago it's 10:15, but they could have trimmed at least 90 minutes from this shit.

That just might piss off people more than when Trump mocked the disabled reporter. Now, what Trump did was totally shitty. But, a mocking/making fun of a teenager boy might make more people wise up to the nastiness of Trump and the MAGAts.
But, maybe the MAGAts will leave Gus alone. Gretchen Whitmer has a lesbian daughter and when the daughter came out in WaPo article, I thought the MAGAts and other far right loons would attack Whtimer and the daughter. But, they have pretty much left the daughter alone.

He doesn't have to try hard to get the crowd going, like so many public speakers do.
It was all just honest and plain talk, with no bullshit.
The crowd senses that, and they were with him.
I was with him.
I felt like Tim's speech and Michelle Obama's speech were the most honest and straight forward of all the convention speeches.

The beauty of the Democratic convention is that you have this amazing range of speakers.
Some who appeal to gays, to people of color, to women, to white suburbanites, to housewives, to you name it.
The Democratic field is so diverse, and we have such an amazing array of speakers who can reach out to a multitude of voters.
But the key here is that we needed a ticket that would ENERGIZE these voters, and I think we have it this year.

R369 we Lutherans are awesome! ELCA (the largest Lutheran denomination in the US and the one the Walz family belongs to) ordains gay pastors and marries gay couples. Lutherans believe all work is vocational and therefore requires integrity and a sense of service to others. Lutherans believe good, honest government is a gift of God and the proper role of the government is to care for the welfare of the people. Lutheran Social Services is second only to the Catholic group in the US for church associated social services. Minnesota and North Dakota are majority Lutheran and there are large numbers of Lutherans in all the blue wall and retirement sun belt swing states. This is a historic first for American Lutherans.

I don't like to say this, but Vance was very good on TV last night. It's all bullshit, but in a country where too close to half the voters are prepared to vote Trump, that's not good news. He is good at circling back to message smoothly. Tapper couldn't land anything on him last night. The point is, if you wanted to believe him, you could. I am not arguing he's a winner but the guy is not Trump. He's a slicker Trump. Thank God he says stupid things like cat ladies and IVF.

R454 is right. Just because the guy’s soul is excrement doesn’t mean we should dismiss his effectiveness at staying in message. However, Tim’s strategists will figure out a way to combat that during the debate.

But Vance is really not that effective when it comes down to it. Yes, he's clearly intelligent, but as far as being effective, he significantly underperformed the other Republicans who ran statewide in 2022.
by Anonymous | reply 460 | August 22, 2024 1:16 PM |
Can I just add my only real worry about Vance is the debate. Walz has said he's not a great debater (I find that hard to believe and hope it's just trying to build false confidence in Republicans). Vance's crowds are pathetic and media will hassle him on any number of fronts. Plus, he's First Officer on a sinking ship. But in terms of the virals etc. he's an asset, so far as he can be under the circumstances.
by Anonymous | reply 461 | August 22, 2024 1:17 PM |
If Vance was effective, he would be drawing crowds bigger than a faded lounge act in Reno. But he doesn't. by Anonymous | reply 466 | August 22, 2024 1:23 PM |
R463, he's smooth in a way that he pivots away from questions by spewing out some canned lie filled talking point, sometimes 3x a little awkwardly and avoids ever giving an actual answer.
Vance has dealt with hundreds of little shits like this. I doubt he was the kind of teacher who went for the jugular to humiliate the kid in front of everyone, but humiliation is one of the strongest tools in a teacher's box and I'm sure Tim could use it like a miter saw on him. It's why he knew "weird" would totally break them. But keep expectations low.
Nobody expects the messy haired English lit teacher who kept kleenex in the sleeve of her 1970's sweater to verbally eviscerate a kid for the crime of not writing his Beowulf paper on time so badly that he later went home and hanged himself in the garage, is an assassin.

by Anonymous | reply 475 | August 22, 2024 1:48 PM |
Just as I think there were closet Trump supporters in 2016 who voted for him while keeping quiet, maybe even to their spouses, it’s going to be the reverse this time. People not generally in the Democratic wheelhouse are going to quietly stay home and a lot of women will secretly vote for Harris/Walz without telling their husbands. Someone here reported that even the hags on Fox news said that Doug Emhoff talked about Kamala the way any wife would love to hear her husband talk about her.
That’s everything, you can’t fake it or buy it, and in a conservative climate where no Republican candidate strays from a clichéd script and there’s never a hint of fun or simple humanity the difference is stark. People vote for intangibles, because of feelings, and the Dems make people feel confident and hopeful and that’s what people will take into the voting booth.
Trump Republicanism is strangling and suffocating to death.

Tapper not challenging or not giving pushback reminds me of this quote from Hunter S. Thompson on journalists and Nixon.
[quote] “Some people will say that words like scum and rotten are wrong for Objective Journalism—which is true, but they miss the point. It was the built-in blind spots of the Objective rules and dogma that allowed Nixon to slither into the White House in the first place. He looked so good on paper that you could almost vote for him sight unseen. He seemed so all-American, so much like Horatio Alger, that he was able to slip through the cracks of Objective Journalism. You had to get Subjective to see Nixon clearly,

Sorry, r474. "Hold my beer" is short for "Hold my beer because I'm about to do something very stupid, and I need my hands free."

Not my line but in politics, if you're explaining, you're losing. He keeps having to explain that all the time. If he'd just be smart enough to say I'm sorry, it was a stupid way to express an idea he might do himself some good. But they can't see that and the outcome of the election is better for it.

by Anonymous | reply 498 | August 22, 2024 3:31 PM |
Joy, Schmoy. NOT what Americans are seeking or hoping for.
We don't expect to feel "joy" when we exercise our Constitutional or human rights. We don't expect to feel "joy" when our Social Security checks are deposited. We sure as heck don't expect to feel "joy" when the Biden Infrastructure Bill in action closes our roads for repairs (though maybe we should!).
Speaking of whom: WTH? Were we miserable under the Biden Administration? I wasn't, and I'm not.
I'm dismayed at how to a person the DNC is presented as though we are trying to escape the past four years with Trump!
Can the Harris/Wakz campaign not speak about "CONTINUATION with IMPROVEMENT"? Or simply "PROGRESS"?
"Thanking" Joe is insufficient homage, IMO. He wasn't some mere place-holder.
When Bill Clinton mentioned how Democrats outnumber Republicans 50-1 in jobs creation, could he not have specified the number under Biden (15.7 million, out of those 50 million, Bill)?
Could Joe's remarkable success with Big Pharma and lowered drug prices not have been specifically, well, remarked upon AS a Biden accomplishment upon which Harris/Walz will build?
I do not mean that these achievements be mentioned; I mean, "This is what Joe Biden did."
Well, maybe I missed a lot.

Trump was a massive dark shadow over Biden. He was a shadow president running his own mettings and press conferences from MAL. Not a day went by that we didn't hear from the fucker. My friend in Europe said that Trump made their evening news at least once per week. Biden? A few times per year. The media are partly to blame.
People here are asking why didn't Biden do x. Why didn't Harris do y. Go to Biden's website and ...... they did! But their efforts never made the news and Bden couldn't communicate it because he is not a big blowhard. He won't insult someone's child to grab the headlines.
I understand why people still feel smothered under Trump and see a second defeat as a way to finally get rid if him. Foreign leaders will stop meeting with him when he's a 79 year old double loser and it's clear he will never be in the WH again.

R499 When Biden first took office in 2021 the country was still fresh off of the insurrection on the capitol and still reeling from Covid. People were still dying, the economy was in the toilet, no one knew when we'd ever see the light of day again, and that really didn't even start to ease until the end of 2022. Then there was the heartbreaking repealing of Roe. And all that time we still had to deal with Trump and MAGA's ever-looming presence, still insisting the election was stolen. Think of all of the family and loved ones we've lost to the cult of MAGA. Then came the trials of Trump, one after another, all of us certain he'd never actually see justice, having to see him dominating cycle the news day after day. And all of this while he was campaigning for ANOTHER term. Then the immunity case...
It truly felt as if it would NEVER end. It has been the most bleak, stressful 8-year stretch for America that I've experienced in my 36 years. THAT is what democrats are speaking of when they talk about finally embracing (hell, even ENTERTAINING) joy again.

Probably because CNN is afraid that if they don't let Couch Fucker and Rapist talk, then they won't appear on CNN any more.
So they just let them say whatever they want.
Which is so cowardly and unjournalistic of CNN.

I would've been fine with them not letting a Palestinian speaker speak if they hadn't dropped those Jewish parents of the kidnapped man into primetime. I thought they gave a beautiful and moving speech that also spoke to the worth of Palestinian life (although as an atheist I always get a little annoyed when people list off all the faiths people are without leaving room for no faith at all) but if you're including them they really should be including a Palestinian as well. And neither would've needed to be during prime time. Have they had any Ukranians speak? Otherwise I don't see the point of getting into it during the convention.

Yes, people who are filled with RAGE, and HATE, and COMPLAINTS 24/7, would be "sick of hearing the word 'joy'."
*rolling my eyes*
What in the fuck are you MAGATS even doing here?
Do you have some couch to go fuck?

The one thing that has disappointed me the most and, hopefully, will be alleviated tonight is the absence of southern Asians. She is half-Indian, a fact that is almost always forgotten, and should have representatives of that part of her heritage ( other than Mindy). Let's really be inclusive.

I think her sister Maya will probably introduce Kamala tonight.
But yeah, this would have been a great opportunity for Kal Penn or Padma Lakshmi to get on stage.
Maybe they didn't want to.

Don't laugh but I'm kind of disappointed Cassidy Hutchinson hasn't made an appearance at the convention. I wonder if that was her choice or the DNC.

I'm the poster that mentioned up thread (or in an earlier thread) the very young Barbra Streisand singing Happy Days Are Here Again at the 1964 DNC for LBJ. At least I'm pretty sure that was the event and moment (obviously, I'm old and my memory may be shaky!).
But it was a riveting moment. Anyone else remember that? She was only just beginning her career and, of course, had previously recorded the song, without any political reference. I've been looking for it on youtube but with no luck. If anyone can find it, please post it here.
TIA!

Maybe the posters complaining about the "joy" theme would be happier with "freedom," "not going back," and "when we fight, we win"—which they're also using. "Joy" is just the icing on the cake.

I think they addressed the South Asian contingent with Mindy Kaling. The thing is, Indian-Americans are engaged and supportive of the Dem party as recent polling has shown. While they are a growing % of the population, they live in primarily Dem states already.
The DNC convention is not just about star power but also about pushing forth Dem accomplishments, politicians and policies. What Indian-American DNC politicians are there to promote those things?
There's only so much time per night and a list of politicians who expect to go on. And the bigger Indian-American level politicians (governors) are GOP - Haley and Jindal.

Did Representative Pramila Jayapal from Washington get to speak? She's Indian.
Also, during the roll call, there was a South Asian woman who did the speaking for Washington State, and said she was the first South Asian leader of the Democratic Party from that state.
So there are little bits here and there, where Indians/South Asians are represented.

[quote]So Bill Clinton's 50 million to 1 million jobs added claim? It is correct.
And yet Americans continue to give an edge to Republicans on which party they think is better at handling the economy.
How did the Republicans make Americans believe that ... and how do they perpetuate the myth?

r562, I honestly think it comes down to remembering the lower gas prices during Dump's presidency, even if it was accomplished at a price.
Yes, I know that really has nothing much to do with the state of economy but it's what idiots remember.
by Anonymous | reply 563 | August 22, 2024 5:51 PM |
R562 - lies and the complicit media who doesn't fact check them. Seriously. They use the media as propaganda and the media just goes a long with it - they even KNOW they're going to lie, but they play the game for 'access' to the politicians. Otherwise, the GOP will cut them off from access.
Jake Tapper admitted to it.

I know Bill Clinton’s legacy is complicated but “I’ll be happy when she enters the White House as president, because she will break my record as the president who spent the most time at McDonald’s.” just filled me with so much…well, joy. It reminds me that I was so proud to vote for him in my first presidential election. Granted, that was back when Virginia was blood red, so it didn’t matter.

[quote]Pramila Jayapal
r561 from what I know about Pramila Jayapal, she is very left wing. (Genuinely, not MAGA-defined.) That makes me think she is pro-Palestinian, and for that reason, may be boycotting the convention. Is she even a Democrat? I thought she was affiliated with a leftist group like DSA or Socialist Alternative or something.
by Anonymous | reply 567 | August 22, 2024 5:57 PM |
It's a decades old problem r563. It's in the script. You are ALWAYS supposed to tell pollsters that Republicans handle the economy better, going back to Reagan. At this point I don't think it has anything to do with anything real, just some script in people's heads.
And back in 1980, there was a sense to it. Democrats just come in, raise everyone's taxes, pile on all the regulations, and next thing you know you got nothing but gaslines and inflation and the so-called "misery index" with unemployment. And now the president's wearing some stupid sweater telling you to turn down the thermostat (correctly, but nobody wanted to hear that). Now it's become some mindless meme, endlessly repeated as if the 2008 collapse never happened and as if Republicans don't always have the one and only strategy: give more money to rich assholes and hope that helps, which always fails to do anything for anybody else.

What an insult if they thought that this was sufficient. The Asian vote is the fastest growing of all the minorities and, to have someone who is of Asian descent represented at the highest level is as much an accomplishment as having a black candidate, even moreso. So, although there were Kim and Duckworth and ( maybe Lieu), no one of her heritage has spoken to the crowd in a policy outreach to the south Asian community. All Indian and Asian citizens are not represented by Vivek or Nimrata.

[quote] Oh, a former Leopards Eating People's Faces Party member at [R404]. I guess jingoism, xenophobia, violent racism, misogyny, and government overthrow are terrific, but be mean to MY son and that's a bridge too far, buddy!
The guy in the tweet at R404 will probably vote again for Trump. He's probably just calling out his fellow MAGAs in hopes they'll just lay off kids with disabilities. They probably won't.
I have talked about this on DL several times. I worked with disabled clients as a case manager for a home health care agency and I have volunteered with disability non-profits for over 20 years. In my past job and volunteer work, I have encountered some people with disabilities or people who have loved with disabilities who have their own prejudices such as a homophobia racism, sexism, discrimination against non-Christians, etc. I started working in case management in 2007 and we had a few reports around the 2008 election of clients calling Obama the N word or other nasty things in front of care attendants, nurses, therapists, and other agency employees or contractors who visited client homes. The agency I worked with terminated contracts with clients if they directly used any hate speech directed towards agency employees or contractors. I volunteer with non-profits that aid adults and children with traumatic brain injuries, I encountered several people who were POAS or medical guardians of their adult children, spouses, or siblings with TBIs. Two women I know who have/had adult children with TBIs are huge Trump supporters. One woman posted a meme on Facebook about how Hitler and the Nazis executed disabled people and then a few months later she posted a meme saying that the Border Patrol should put alligators in the rivers along the Southern border. To her wanting genocide of Mexicans and other immigrants (Central or South America) is fine and dandy, but she was totally against the genocide of disabled people during the Holocaust. The other woman is the mom of deceased a TBI patient who died in 2021. I first met the woman and her daughter in 2011 and when I met the mother she seemed pretty pleasant. The woman friended me on Facebook and in the past several years she has revealed herself to be a female misogynist. She doesn't like women in elected office and has posted some hateful things regarding Kamala, Nancy Pelosi, Gretchen Whitmer, AOC etc (the more well known types). I feel sorry for both women as I know their lives have been difficult caring adult children with TBIs, but it's hard to sympathize with them at times because of their nasty beliefs towards immigrants and women.

What r454 said.
Some of you confuse honest assessment of your enemy, even if it includes acknowledging any skills they have, with hoping for them, or liking them.
Nonsense.
If you don't know your opponent's foibles and skills, and what arguments they will bring to your positions, that's a disadvantage.
It's a given that Vance is opportunistic phony. It's a given that he's justified to himself all of the weird, cockamamie stuff he says about women and families in service to his wanting power.
He sees and knows the Democratic tsunami that may only gain power the closer it gets to shore - November 5th.
It's occurred to me he's the one who has buyer's remorse, not Trump.
But the thing is, unlike Trump, he's got somewhere to go if and when they're defeated - 4 years left on his US Senate term. He'd never publicly let on of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if he only going through the motions.
Walz must know he cannot underestimate Vance at the debate. He'll be prepared for any tricks Vance may have up his sleeve.
