I want to be underwhelmed - Back to School Edition šŸ“š

You remember school, donā€™t ya?

by Anonymousreply 600September 18, 2023 2:27 PM

Where were we?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 1August 13, 2023 12:36 PM

The Back-to-School Edition already? I'm whelmed by how quickly this year seems to be going by.

by Anonymousreply 2August 13, 2023 8:08 PM

My 2nd favorite time of the year

by Anonymousreply 3August 14, 2023 3:25 AM

I want moleskin pants, but it may be too hot to wear them.

by Anonymousreply 4August 14, 2023 9:54 PM

They even sound too hot, R4.

by Anonymousreply 5August 14, 2023 9:57 PM

I saw the bus drivers practicing in my neighborhood the other day.

by Anonymousreply 6August 14, 2023 10:00 PM

When I went to school be went back the Wednesday after Labor Day and got out on Flag Day. All twelve years.

by Anonymousreply 7August 14, 2023 10:08 PM

Correction - we got out late May senior year and graduated in June.

by Anonymousreply 8August 14, 2023 10:10 PM

Our schools start on Wednesday. So unfair when the pools are open just a few more weeks.

by Anonymousreply 9August 14, 2023 10:47 PM

Iā€™m watching 227 on Pluto

by Anonymousreply 10August 14, 2023 11:02 PM

Late summer ā˜€ļø

by Anonymousreply 11August 15, 2023 1:05 AM

These Walkers shortbread cookies are good!

by Anonymousreply 12August 15, 2023 3:13 AM

The owls are hooting it up tonight and I noticed a couple of orange leaves on one of my maple trees today. I love summer and don't want it to end.

by Anonymousreply 13August 15, 2023 3:14 AM

From the previous thread.
Everything was broken today. Luckily, an electrician was able to come to the house and now my stove works so I'm cooking!

Was the Datalounge plugged in at your house near the stove by any chance? Is that what happened this morning?

by Anonymousreply 14August 15, 2023 4:39 AM

Yes, R14, it's all connected. Weird day but it got better.

by Anonymousreply 15August 15, 2023 4:42 AM

This is how the instructions for the water filter in my coffee maker explained that it was no longer possible (or, allegedly, necessary) to adjust the filterā€™s water hardness setting:

ā€œTo install, simply follow the steps required with the original cartridge; the only difference is that the ā€œaroma adjustmentā€ has been omittedā€”blending and flow correspond to average usage and consumption and have been embedded in the design.ā€

Clear?

by Anonymousreply 16August 15, 2023 1:03 PM

Is it fall yet?

by Anonymousreply 17August 15, 2023 1:38 PM

Oh, just go ahead and cradle the damn mug.

by Anonymousreply 18August 15, 2023 2:04 PM

Every damn site or business I deal with these days has to send me an email survey begging me to love them. And now, if I ignore it, they start sending nagging reminders to fill out their damn survey. No, I don't care to rate how my TollTag renewal was, thank you.

by Anonymousreply 19August 15, 2023 2:29 PM

I find rating things to be very stressful. Everyone wants a perfect score, but nobody is perfect.

by Anonymousreply 20August 15, 2023 2:56 PM

I bought a fantastic new coffee maker, and will need someone to peel me from the ceiling if I have one more pot.

by Anonymousreply 21August 15, 2023 3:11 PM

I have to go back to the dentist for ā€œdeep cleaningā€ today. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 22August 15, 2023 3:25 PM

Ask for lidocaine or novacaine.

by Anonymousreply 23August 15, 2023 3:30 PM

They give it to me before they start, which means the needle. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 24August 15, 2023 3:31 PM

I'm pretty sure I'm being catfished on Facebook, but I'm playing along because I'm bored.

by Anonymousreply 25August 15, 2023 3:43 PM
They give it to me before they start, which means the needle. Ugh.

There's liquid lidocaine, which doesn't require a needle. It's topical. The needle w/the novacaine is more numbing, though.

by Anonymousreply 26August 15, 2023 3:51 PM

^hmmmmm

by Anonymousreply 27August 15, 2023 4:07 PM

I'm a big baby at the dentist, when I needed a periodontal cleaning I requested nitrous gas. BTW, is there anything more whelming than talking about going to the dentist?

by Anonymousreply 28August 15, 2023 5:17 PM

Yes, R28, actually going to the dentist. I've had a series of appointments recently and I'm in a permanent state of whelm.

by Anonymousreply 29August 15, 2023 5:21 PM

Sorry.

by Anonymousreply 30August 15, 2023 5:23 PM

Thank you. Nothing new for me, really.

by Anonymousreply 31August 15, 2023 5:25 PM

I need a new suit for a wedding a month from now. I lost weight during the pandemic, nothing fits, and I retired seven years ago so even if I had one that did fit, it's probably out of style.

You can be underwhelmed. I need to find a suit. Thus far it appears to whelm me.

by Anonymousreply 32August 15, 2023 7:31 PM

So I got topical anesthesia before the shots. Only mild discomfort.

by Anonymousreply 33August 15, 2023 10:35 PM

At least itā€™s not for a funeral.

by Anonymousreply 34August 15, 2023 10:36 PM

Last night I started binging Billions with that hot ginger Damian Lewis. Anyhow parts of some episodes repeated in may dreams last night. Almost like my brain was set to pvr.

by Anonymousreply 35August 15, 2023 10:45 PM

No R34, youā€™re right. And a closer look in the back of the closet revealed a perfectly-fitting and relatively narrow-lapeled ivory/tan cashmere and wool Hugo Boss jacket. Which I couldnā€™t wear to a funeral. White shirt, black tie, black slacks and shoes I have. I canā€™t believe I still have it let alone could find it let alone can wear it again. Keep anything long enough and it comes back in style. There was a bar receipt in one of the pockets from Christmas of 1999 so I know Iā€™ve had it long enough.

Iā€™m right back to being underwhelmed.

by Anonymousreply 36August 15, 2023 11:58 PM

I went to Walmart's website to buy Doritos and here are my flavor choices (would you be whelmed?):

Nacho Cheese

Cool Ranch

Sweet & Tangy BBQ

Spicy Nacho

Spicy Sweet Chili

Flamin' Hot Nacho

White Cheddar

Flamin' Hot Cool Ranch

Chile Limon

Flamas

Tapatio

Spicy Pineapple Jalapeno

Taco

Hot Mustard

Salsa Verde

Flamin' Hot Limon

Sweet Chili Heat

Tangy Pickle

Zesty Cheese (imported from Canada)

Dinamita Flamin Hot Chile Limon

Pizzaroles

Incognita

3D (no clue what that is, but it's a bright yellow bag)

3D Crunchy Spicy Ranch (different color bag than above)

3D Crunchy Chili Cheese Nacho

Smoky Chile Queso

Screamin' Sriracha

Flamin' Hot Queso

Tangy Fiery Lime

Hot Honey Mustard

Hot Chicken Wings

Extra Flamin' Hot

by Anonymousreply 37August 16, 2023 4:21 AM

There are three relevant choices for Doritos:

Taco

Nacho cheese

Cool Ranch

by Anonymousreply 38August 16, 2023 4:30 AM

I wonder which is the better seller. Judging by the supermarket displays I'd say Cool Ranch. That's my go-to Dorito.

by Anonymousreply 39August 16, 2023 4:49 AM

I would try the salsa verde.

by Anonymousreply 40August 16, 2023 5:04 AM

Itā€™s going to be house frau season in about a week. Overpriced spiced lattes will be talk of the town!

by Anonymousreply 41August 16, 2023 5:14 AM

Doritos no longer give my body the trans fats it demands, so Iā€™ve had to go off-label for my salty corn snacks.

by Anonymousreply 42August 16, 2023 5:51 AM

Honestly, the number of choices has me paralyzed, I was just going to go for my standard Cool Ranch, but now I can't decide if I want to try some of the newer flavors. What if they're terrible?

by Anonymousreply 43August 16, 2023 5:56 AM

R19, R20, I am right there with you. I have to create, review, and analyze surveys at work all the time (health research) and I feel like my surveys are important for the work I do, but I get so overwhelmed by all the ā€œrate your Door Dash experienceā€ type evaluations that come with everything that even *I* donā€™t respond to legitimate and necessary surveys a lot of the time. ā˜¹ļø

But since I replied to your posts, please take a moment to provide feedback on my response at the link below. It will help me create better responses to you in the future!

Oh, and for dinner, I had street tacos that had minced jalapeƱo on them and then I went to use the restroom but didnā€™t wash my hands BEFORE I used it, only after. You probably know how that story ends. šŸ˜’

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 44August 16, 2023 5:58 AM

Or worse, what if I like a new flavor, and they stop making it because it's not a big seller. THEN WHAT?

by Anonymousreply 45August 16, 2023 5:59 AM

The overwhelming variety of choices of Doritos reminded me of the book "Future Shock," which I read many years ago. One of the author's predictions was that there would be an overwhelming variety of choices for just about everything.

by Anonymousreply 46August 16, 2023 8:40 AM

What the actual fuck is wrong with plain Doritos?

by Anonymousreply 47August 16, 2023 8:46 AM

I celebrated a significant drop in my a1c after changing my diet with a bag of Sweet Chilli Doritos. They werenā€™t as good as I remembered them, left me feeling a bit queasy (of course I ate the whole bag in one day) and I gained more than a pound.

by Anonymousreply 48August 16, 2023 12:45 PM

R47, I think they should ditch the plain Dorito and make cool ranch the official Dorito and the original can become nacho cheese Doritos. In every group, someone outshines the rest and goes on to be the biggest star. Cool Ranch Doritos are the Diana Ross of the Doritos lineup.

by Anonymousreply 49August 16, 2023 12:49 PM

Wow, veterinarians have become expensive. I took my dog in for an exam, update of her vaccines and needed more heartworm and flea/tick medication. It cost me a little over $600.

4

by Anonymousreply 50August 16, 2023 7:43 PM

R50, thatā€™s outrageous! I also just got back from the vet where I had TWO cats (that insisted on traveling in the same small carrier because the littler one loves his carrier and naps in it and the bigger one loves the little one and refused to get in his own carrier. I couldnā€™t get his big butt in so I gave up and he squeezed himself into the carrier with the other one). And exams and vaccines for both combined was only $392. And I do go to the most expensive boutique vet in a big city and ever time I walk out I say ā€œthatā€™s the last time Iā€™m coming hereā€. I could definitely find a cheaper vet, but they have 5 vets on staff and I like 4 of them. And the last two times Iā€™ve been I was scheduled with the one I absolutely do not like. Sheā€™s patronizing and I donā€™t actually think sheā€™s very good at what she does. I had to email them that she had an error in the notes they sent me immediately after (she said one of my cats had been sneezing for a few days and I told her specifically he has been sneezing since he was adopted in March). I asked them to have her correct that and I specifically put it in an email because she says itā€™s just allergies and I said I think he has FVR. She looked at me like I was an idiot and asked ā€œWhat is FVR?ā€ and I said ā€œFeline viral rhinotracheitisā€. She doesnā€™t know me and she doesnā€™t know what I do for a loving. Iā€™m not a veterinarian and I have huge respect for them because they have to learn the anatomy of a billion different species and breeds and their patients canā€™t speak, but I do the same thing she does for a living but for people šŸ™„. I donā€™t play that card anywhere with anyone (my doctors know because I get my primary at a hospital center I used to work at). I donā€™t want to influence their judgment and I want them to make the decisions and not let me steamroll them (but unfortunately I have steamrolled my primary care doc more than once.itā€™s almost his fault. He asks what tests I need ordered and what prescriptions and how I want them written if itā€™s something I can tell him without him looking up which is basically anything that has to do with infectious diseases.)

Long rant. I hate my vet but you need a new one!!

by Anonymousreply 51August 16, 2023 9:26 PM

I paid $600 for my last vet visit. Just an exam and bloodwork. Private equity firms are buying up vet practices.

by Anonymousreply 52August 16, 2023 10:24 PM

Pumpkin Spice in EVERYTHING! It annoys me; it makes me realize winter is coming.

by Anonymousreply 53August 17, 2023 12:54 AM
She doesnā€™t know me and she doesnā€™t know what I do for a loving.

Better not tell her.

by Anonymousreply 54August 17, 2023 1:07 AM

R53, ugh I hate that we have to endure pumpkin spice season and know that winter is coming and itā€™ll be White Walker season soon. Two of my least favorite seasons, back-to-back.

by Anonymousreply 55August 17, 2023 1:07 AM

Baked sweet potato

by Anonymousreply 56August 17, 2023 1:23 AM

šŸ¤ R54, Iā€™m assuming youā€™re referring to my typo. There is nothing Iā€™d do for a loving from this woman. NOTHING. There will be no loving. Iā€™m actually getting angrier as the day goes by about the whole visit.

by Anonymousreply 57August 17, 2023 1:28 AM

The guy who cuts my lawn just told me his mower has died and heā€™s not getting a new one. Do I buy a mower and do it myself, or find someone else. Perhaps a strapping youth.

by Anonymousreply 58August 17, 2023 10:59 PM

R58 just stop mowing and let grass and weeds cover your house.

by Anonymousreply 59August 17, 2023 11:19 PM

Although, a strapping youth sounds like a fine alternative.

by Anonymousreply 60August 17, 2023 11:21 PM

R70

Is it ok if it's a strapping trans youth?

by Anonymousreply 61August 17, 2023 11:22 PM

R58, how big is the yard?

by Anonymousreply 62August 17, 2023 11:23 PM

R59

Ooops. R59, not R70

Is it ok if it's a strapping trans youth?

by Anonymousreply 63August 17, 2023 11:24 PM

Itā€™s not easy finding a strapping youth. You canā€™t really say thatā€™s what youā€™re looking for. People can be so sensitive these days.

by Anonymousreply 64August 17, 2023 11:25 PM

Itā€™s only 1/8 acre property. I could do it myself, but Iā€™d inevitably spend too much money on equipment.

by Anonymousreply 65August 17, 2023 11:26 PM

Just buy a mower and mow your own lawn. 1/8th of an acre sounds do-able. We could all use the exercise.

by Anonymousreply 66August 18, 2023 5:18 AM

Feels like it was only yesterday that school was out for the summer and now suddenly it's back to school and Christmas šŸŽ„ is around the corner

by Anonymousreply 67August 18, 2023 3:25 PM

R67 Yeah, Christmas isnā€™t ā€œright around the cornerā€. That is a marketing ploy youā€™ve been fed so you will spend $.

by Anonymousreply 68August 18, 2023 6:22 PM

I went to the farmer's market this afternoon and bought 1.5 lbs. of green peanuts -- first of the season!

They are cooking in my pressure cooker as I type.

by Anonymousreply 69August 18, 2023 9:02 PM

Christmas isn't around the corner, but I do agree that fall seems to go quickly. I don't even Christmas shop or stress out over the holidays. I do try to avoid certain places though (as it gets closer to X-mas): the mall, the Post Office.

by Anonymousreply 70August 18, 2023 9:21 PM

At 69 it often takes me a little more time to get around corners.

by Anonymousreply 71August 18, 2023 10:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 77August 19, 2023 9:04 AM

I wouldn't be able to get out of bed if I knew there was no coffee in the house, unless I were to go out and buy some, which would be such a whelming thought, I'd just stay in bed.

There's a guy at the gym I'm infatuated with. I don't know if he is gay or bi, don't know his name, not sure what his story is. He's is doing HIT training and has a rugby player build. We made eye contact in the locker room one time when I was going in to take a leak. He's likely 20 years younger than me ,I'm trying to quell this obsession. I don't get a vibe that he's trying to avoid me we seem to be at the gym at the same time frequently. Can't stop thinking about him. He's definitely not the most muscular or best looking but I'm attracted.

Could we please keep Meghan Markle off the "underwhelmed" threads? There are more than enough DL threads available to satisfy all the Klan Grannies who can't stop talking about how much they hate her.

Minnie driver is like 6 ft tall and had an enormous head. Huuge!!!

I wonder if DJT ever tries to contact Dyan Cannon confusing her with Aileen Cannon.

by Anonymousreply 90August 20, 2023 2:10 AM

I don't particularly care for The Beverly Hillbillies episodes with Cousin Pearl and Jethrine.

by Anonymousreply 93August 21, 2023 2:46 PM

Someone tried to steal my 9 year-old son's bike from the bike rack at school last week, and they messed up his brake cables. Now I have to hurry and find another decent used bike.

High quality used bikes are the way to go because you can get a used Trek bike that was $700 for $150, used. Or you can get a brand new, extraordinarily awful prison sweatshop bike (that will impale you via your diaphragm when the handlebars spontaneously slip out of the frame) from Walmart for $150. It took me a few. years to figure this out, so I am passing it on.

by Anonymousreply 94August 21, 2023 3:26 PM

The four Canada Geese that I'm always chasing out of my yard were standing in the middle of the road a few houses down so I stuck my head out the car window and said "Shoo!" They know me and probably think I'm stalking them now. Good.

by Anonymousreply 95August 21, 2023 5:48 PM

Watch out for cousin asshole!

by Anonymousreply 96August 21, 2023 5:54 PM

Cambridge has announced they've OK'd cross-sidewalk EV charging, meaning you can park at the curb and plug into the car with a cable that comes from your house. You're supposed to use a cord cover as it crosses the sidewalk.

I'd like to be underwhelmed thinking, "Hey, good idea - not everyone has a driveway or a garage" but I know some asshole won't cover it, someone will trip over it and the city (meaning, of course, the taxpayers) will be on the hook for the insurance payout.

by Anonymousreply 97August 21, 2023 6:10 PM

Careful r95. Geese can be vicious.

by Anonymousreply 98August 21, 2023 6:23 PM

Why would the city be on the hook? If the driver didnā€™t use a cord cover, heā€™s liable.

by Anonymousreply 99August 21, 2023 6:32 PM

R95, There's a large pond in my neighborhood and I used to like to slow down my car adjacent to their shade tree and scream at them to go back to their own country.

I've been crazy about birds, all birds, my entire life and I often slow down and yell at the neighborhood crows, grackles and Mockingbirds when I see them in someone else's yard after I put food out for them in my own yard.

I stopped after I downloaded the Nextdoor app and saw that half my subdivision posts security camera footage of anything out of the ordinary, which doesn't take much for these bores.

by Anonymousreply 100August 21, 2023 6:33 PM

R99 Sidewalks are a public way owned by the city but here taxed as an improvement to the personal property of the homeowner whose frontage they cover and despite not owning the sidewalks the abutting homeowner whose clear passage (salting, sanding, and shoveling in the winter, sweeping in the summer) efforts to maintain that sidewalk are the sole responsibility of the homeowner.) They'll fix it if it cracks, but it's yours until they do

An attorney for someone seriously injured tripping over a unsecured cord across the sidewalk would investigate the assets and insurance coverage of the person charging the car. Since it's not a moving violation, it's not covered under the auto policy and one would hope that a home owner but especially a renter would have some coverage for the contents of their unit and for liability. If they don't, or if they do and the lawyers are seeking a larger award, any lawyer would go after the city for promulgating a potential hazard on a public way and not demanding and enforcing its correct placement. And rather than fight it in court, the city will attempt to come to a settlement so as not to risk going to court and having a jury find them liable for even more extensive and expensive damages.

by Anonymousreply 102August 21, 2023 9:32 PM

I have loudly lectured the neighborhood crows - I told them they canā€™t grow big and strong eating fast food shit.

They mock me.

Some little fuckers are just too good for tofu. When they come stumbling by begging for Boniva Iā€™ll mock them. Assholes.

by Anonymousreply 103August 21, 2023 10:00 PM

I noticed the difference in intelligence levels in the local birds.

One type of bird seems stupid. When a car is behind them, they hop forwards (still in the path of the car).

The other type of bird seems smart. When a car is behind them, they hop to the side of the road. They take their time, but they hop to the side of the road and out of the way.

by Anonymousreply 104August 21, 2023 10:32 PM
I have loudly lectured the neighborhood crows - I told them they canā€™t grow big and strong eating fast food shit.

I was in a doctors waiting room when a MAGA said Biden;s appointments are terrible and based solely on skin color and gender. I couldnā€™t help myself. I turned and asked ā€œWhat about Trumpā€™s appointments? He fired most of them and called his own people idiots.ā€ He just smiled blankly and changed the subject.

I didnā€™t feel better, but it wasnā€™t my fault. He started it. Thereā€™s a reason they have the TV tuned to HGTV in waiting rooms.

Heavenly chill in the air notwithstanding.

R107, Iā€™m not saying Trixie [italic]isntā€™t[/italic] in a gang (she probably is) but vets put those on tattoos on spayed female cats so that if they get lost and picked up and taken to a shelter, before another vet tried to spay her, theyā€™d see the tattoo and know she was already spayed and stop before they did something unnecessary.

My cat just had a little black X on her belly and after I got to know her I wondered if I could get the tattoo redone as a little skull and cross bones. Not seriously enough to ask anyone, but enough that I thought about who I would have to ask.

I cooked up, for the first time, some black-eyed peas. A DL poster in another thread said that he / she preferred black-eyed peas to pinto beans. Well, they're OK, but I think I prefer pinto beans.

by Anonymousreply 127August 22, 2023 10:17 PM

I just finished off a small haggen Dazs strawberry cheescake flavored ice cream. It was melted. Felt like having a milkshake

by Anonymousreply 128August 22, 2023 11:25 PM

I am somewhat whelmed by beans and black eyed peas. They remind me of serious poverty.

by Anonymousreply 129August 22, 2023 11:29 PM

Now I've got tummy ache , burping and farting after eating melted ice cream like it was milkshake

by Anonymousreply 130August 23, 2023 12:28 AM
I am somewhat whelmed by beans and black eyed peas. They remind me of serious poverty.

Bean cooker, here. I guess cooking dried beans is associated with penny-pinching and poverty. I am just relieved to have learned how to cook beans from dried. I like to think I'm a decent cook, but for the longest time, I just could not get the beans softened. I have noticed that my food / grocery bills have gone down since I learned how to cook beans (from dried).

by Anonymousreply 131August 23, 2023 2:00 AM

I love making Tuscan beans. I soak a pound of cannellini or navy beans overnight, drain them, then cook them with a quarter-cup of EVOO, several cloves of garlic (unpeeled), some sprigs of sage leaves, a little tomato paste, and rinds from some Parmigiano-Reggiano, which I save in the freezer. I salt them after cooking.

Utterly delicious. Don't remind me of poverty in the least. Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 132August 23, 2023 2:27 AM

R127, Hi. It ā€˜s me, Iā€™m the problem, itā€™s me. I am probably the poster you were referring to you. I do use black-eyed peas in place of pinto beans all the time because they cook about 4 times faster than most beans. But I totally get it if you donā€™t like them. I love them in refried beans, soups, even baked beans. Sorry it didnā€™t work out for you.

by Anonymousreply 133August 23, 2023 2:53 AM
I am somewhat whelmed by beans and black eyed peas. They remind me of serious poverty.

Well, smell Lady Astor at R129.

by Anonymousreply 134August 23, 2023 2:55 AM

R133 - thanks for posting! No problem at all. I'm glad I tried black-eyed peas. Yeah, they did cook fast. I soaked them overnight & they absorbed a ton of water. As soon as they came to a boil (the next day), they were pretty much cooked, already. So, I can see why people like to cook them.

by Anonymousreply 138August 23, 2023 8:13 AM

Took Cos for his annual check up on Monday. He's up a 1/2 lb. to 15 which is more than I'd like him to be. But he also has an intestinal virus. Since he's an indoor cat, the vet thinks he got it from something I tracked in on my shoes. I feel terrible. He has medicine that I have to mix with his food but he's not eating much due to the medicine. It's a liquid and I've mixed it with his wet food and and dry food. I don't think he's getting enough of the medicine to do any good. May have to call the vet to see if the meds come in a pill form I can crush up in his wet food.

Sorry to overwhelm. I just needed to get that out.

by Anonymousreply 139August 23, 2023 12:26 PM

My cat has been waking me up in the night, too. And being very pushy demanding of my attention. It turns out that the robot feeder which takes care of her overnight feedings had been unplugged. It lasted on battery backup for a while, but eventually stopped working. Sorry, honey. And Iā€™m sorry I blamed senile personality change.

Reason #348 Why Itā€™s Best I Live Alone

Picture This: blackness, utter peace, breathing 53 degrees Fahrenheit (I should look up celsius in case this needs to look official some day) air from beneath a nicely weighted linen comforter.

At 4:05am PST, I was awakened by a THUNDER and shifting of my blanket, followed by a not un-pleasant splitting of my ass. As I moved my legs, a mushroom cloud of poison ascended to the ceiling and began disbursing the scent of death everywhere.

I made it to the bathroom in time. Clean shorts. Best fart in years. Would recommend. Yes, I whooped.

I'm going to the local sports bar later. I'm going to order wings and drink beer. Straight dick would be nice, too.

by Anonymousreply 153August 24, 2023 3:33 PM

Seems like it was a compliment, R152.

by Anonymousreply 154August 24, 2023 4:25 PM

Like I said, I know it's irrational. But he keeps using the word "pristine" and it's rubbing me the wrong way. He has previously come into my house and commented "oh my it's so pristine in here". I've brought a homemade dessert to one of his barbecues and he remarks how "pristine" the fruit slices on top of the dessert are. WTF with the word "pristine"?

by Anonymousreply 155August 24, 2023 6:19 PM

Would you prefer him to use the word "fetid"?

by Anonymousreply 156August 24, 2023 6:32 PM

R155, is it because "pristine" borders on "prissy"?

I think I know why you're irritated.

I once brought poke (raw fish cubes) to a pot luck w/extended family. I placed the bowl of poke in a larger bowl of ice, just to keep it cold. One of my aunts (who is a bitch and disliked me from the time I was a child) said: "You're so perfect," but the look on her face was negative and it was not a compliment.

Neighbor is probably a fucking slob who doesn't clean his toilet and doesn't change his sheets. Just ignore him.

by Anonymousreply 157August 24, 2023 6:33 PM

Yes, r157, that's exactly why I'm irritated! I feel like he's saying "fussy" or as you said prissy.

by Anonymousreply 158August 24, 2023 6:58 PM

Heā€™s basically calling you a fag. Trust.

by Anonymousreply 159August 24, 2023 9:39 PM

Yes, and this is where we sing our simple song:

ā€œWe are Siamese if you please. We are Siamese if you donā€™t please.ā€

by Anonymousreply 160August 24, 2023 11:45 PM

I kinda miss smoking clove cigarettes. They were harsh as hell on the throat & lungs, but the taste and smell were nice.

by Anonymousreply 161August 25, 2023 1:44 AM

I think your neighbours has a limited vocabulary and uses "pristine" as his fancy complimentary word.

by Anonymousreply 162August 25, 2023 4:55 AM

Some people get tic-like compulsions to use a word over and over, even when they're aware and growing self conscious of using the word.

It seems like when one gets a song stuck in one's head-- not in the usual way, where the song is simply playing in the background of one's mind-- but when it is aggressively blasts itself at all times. Once when I was under a tremendous amount of both mental and physical stress and very little sleep, I got Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves so invasively, loudly and persistently for three solid weeks-- I thought I might need to go to the doctor, I thought I might have had a brain tumor.

Sorry to change the subject. I was trying to humanize the neighbor. Is there anything else annoying about him? Does he say it in a smarmy way? Is he older? I'm in the minority but I don't think he meant anything bad by it, but we'd have to see the whole scene with audio to know for sure. Do you have dozens of security cameras with audio so we can see for ourselves?

by Anonymousreply 163August 25, 2023 2:16 PM

Or maybe your neighbor just wants to give you a blow job...

by Anonymousreply 164August 25, 2023 2:19 PM

R163, logorrhea can also be a sign of a brain tumor.

by Anonymousreply 165August 25, 2023 2:21 PM

Yeah, maybe he's waiting for you to hit the garage door button and say "You know what else is pristine, Mr. Wilson?" and present hole.

Which is actually quite a relief, because this little guy spent all last night sitting on my shoulder and watched an entire horror movie. Like WATCHED. Never looked away, fascinated the entire time. Weā€™re firing our condo management company and removing our board president from the HOA board this evening and Iā€™m very nervous because I donā€™t like confrontation. But my neighbors got together earlier this year and told me that they had all decided-Iā€™m the next president. They did this before asking if I wanted to do it. At first I said hell no, but then the condo management company and the president pissed me off so badly, that I went from ā€œno I donā€™t want to do itā€ to ā€œok weā€™re doing it but we have to be sure we have a plan and enough votesā€. Weā€™re a small building so I talked to enough people. We definitely have the votes. Everyone hates both of them so itā€™s happening tonight, we have more than enough votes to do it, and Iā€™m nervous about the whole thing. But also apparently I plotted a coup.

by Anonymousreply 201August 28, 2023 3:18 AM

Doesn't sound "underwhelming," R201.

by Anonymousreply 202August 28, 2023 3:31 AM

It will be to a lot of people who just want to see these people gone. Itā€™s borderline whelming and underwhelming and definitely about the most boring thing in the world. An HOA.

by Anonymousreply 203August 28, 2023 3:36 AM

Ok. Hereā€™s something truly underwhelming. I took an afternoon nap and Iā€™ve been awake for an hour thinking it was Monday morning. I couldnā€™t figure out why it was still dark outside. The HOA meeting is TOMORROW.

by Anonymousreply 204August 28, 2023 3:41 AM

Yeah, there's definitely going to be some drama in r201, even if the coup is successful.

by Anonymousreply 205August 28, 2023 3:52 AM

R205, oh we know. The president dated another board member and he dumped her because sheā€™s psychotic. Sheā€™s had screaming fits in the hallway and thrown things at people. šŸ˜³. She filed complaints against everyone in the building and leaves passive aggressive notes on peopleā€™s doors. We put up security cameras as much for security as we did to stop of her from doing it. Now she hides out of sight of the cameras and takes pictures of peopleā€™s doors and complains that a scrap of paper the size of a dime was spotted outside someoneā€™s door and they havenā€™t cleaned it up yet. Sheā€™s too dumb to realize we still know itā€™s her because sheā€™ll walk past the camera and then hide in a corner and snap a photo and send it to the management company to complain (and theyā€™re ridiculous. Theyā€™ll actually a scolding email someone over a paper scrap smaller than a dime) and we can match the email time stamp to the video of her. Plus the management company has fucked up and forwarded her emails without removing her email address, and they are definitely supporting her or they would just tell her to stop and seek help.

Weā€™re fully expecting her to have a meltdown. But itā€™s ok. She moved out of the building and rents her place out (but still comes back to the building every week! She has one friend here) but everyone hates her and has been asking me how we get rid of her. Sheā€™s not even supposed to be the president! Nobody in their right mind would have voted for her. Weā€™re a really small building and itā€™s hard to get people on the HOA, so anyone who even hesitates to say no becomes a member. She was the vice-president which is the only position that has absolutely no power to do anything and then the president sold his unit and sheā€™s been the temporary president for almost a year.

Her ex thinks sheā€™s going to sell her place and literally 80% of the people in the building have said ā€œI wish sheā€™d just sell and leave us the fuck alone!ā€

Itā€™s gonna be dramatic and Iā€™m gonna be the one telling her we are voting to remove her. Fun times tomorrow.

Sorry to overwhelm.

by Anonymousreply 206August 28, 2023 5:55 AM

Oh yeah, and the coup is pretty much certain. 80% of the owners want her gone. The only ones who havenā€™t complained about her are the ones who own a place and rent it out and have never had the pleasure of dealing with her. We have the majority. And the same 80% want to fire the management company. (Most of them want us to sue them!).

Unless a bunch of us get hit by a bus tomorrow (driven by the president) the coup is just a matter of hours.

Itā€™s going to be so peaceful when sheā€™s gone.

They let me know if they think my door color is too bright, or if I leave the trash container out an extra day, or I wear too little clothing (a bathing suit) in my screened in porch. Last month I was swimming in the pool at 9:15pm; it closes at 9:00. I lost track of the time. An old lady comes to the gate and demands I leave the pool. I am swimming laps gently; I'm not generating much noise.

"It says 9:00 and so you must leave at 9:00. It's not rocket science. Get out!"

Good Lord, I'm not a twelve-year-old. I know how to swim and I am very healthy. The gate isn't even locked at night. I didn't tell her that for years, I skinny-dipped in the pool after midnight. One drunk lady caught me in the act once. I pressed my body to the pool wall so she wouldn't see me. She babbled there for over an hour and a half. Thank God she didn't join me. Why didn't the old lady come out to tell the drunk woman she should not be hanging out at the gate past 9:00?

by Anonymousreply 217August 28, 2023 11:59 PM

R217, youā€™ve been spotted as a gay by your HOA.

Soon, your under-clothed gay swimming will attract naked meth users after 9pm.

ā€œThe nudist does it; why canā€™t we bring a propane torch and glass pipes down to the pool?ā€

Itā€™s done. Part I of the Great Coup of 2023. The president was removed from the board. I am the President now.

And it was surprisingly underwhelming. This woman is a screamer so we thought she was going to go ballistic, but she didnā€™t.

This was the hardest part to accomplish but also the easiest deal with. Sheā€™s gone and she didnā€™t have a meltdown. She said she felt like a couple of people were conspiring against her and I resisted the urge to say ā€œNo lady, EVERYONE wants you gone. Itā€™s not a conspiracy when everyone wants to get rid of you.ā€

Part II will actually be much easier to accomplish. I only need 50% of the board to get rid of the management company and I have 100%. But it scares me more because we need a lawyer. We probably are going to sue and Iā€™ve never been in a lawsuit and I donā€™t want it to drag on for years.

But itā€™s coming. My coup is halfway done.

I was bored earlier waiting for a co-worker to get a document back to me so I decided to clean out my Yahoo throw away email accounts that I use to sign up for unimportant crap.

I came across not one but TWO Daily Mail emails from about a month ago reprimanding me for something I said about Tom Cruise. In the first email they said they received "too many complaints" and removed my comment. They quoted the title of the article however they did not quote my comment so I can only guess what I said. The second email said they reviewed the matter (apparently there's an automatic appeals process, lol) and decided they would "not reinstate" my comment. WTF, who cares. The DM tribunal is taking whatever sarcastic remark I made about little Tom and his little buddy Miscavige way too seriously. And that's probably exactly what my comments was "little Tom" and "little buddy Miscavige".

I've come full circle. I posted on DM when I was bored during a work lull and now once again during a work lull I've cleaned up the aftermath of my unacceptable DM posting.

In conclusion: no more DM posting for me no matter how bored I get.

by Anonymousreply 283September 1, 2023 8:57 PM

The Daily Mail comments seem like the Wild West. I'm surprised it's ever moderated. Good thing you quit posting there. I'd rather embroider than post on DM.

by Anonymousreply 284September 1, 2023 9:04 PM

Before my objectionable comment that so upset Tom's PR minions or borg members who patrol the DM, the last time I posted on DM was when Anderson Cooper had a baby, I think his first one. I posted exactly two words: Cute baby. I don't even like kids but I was trying to be supportive. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that within minutes I had dozens of downvotes. It was bizarre and I thought never again am I posting in this cesspool. But I went it did it again and got a stark reminder.

by Anonymousreply 285September 1, 2023 9:14 PM

On the drive, I had told my son that gold and silver bar people usually have weird beliefs, so not to be surprised if the shop had Rambo Trump posters and things. He said ā€œHey, ā€˜e pluribus unum!ā€™ā€ Heā€™s funny.

The coin store had a sign inside the foyer that said no minors, so we had to move on. After running some errands, we found another coin store in a neighboring town. The guy running it looked like Ted Nugent and had the Don't Tread on Me themed decor, just as I had imagined.

My son got a ā€œ3-cent nickleā€ which I didnā€™t even know was a thing, and a peace dollar, which I also know nothing about. The guy running the store shook his hand twice and kept using his name and calling him sir and things, so now he wants to go back every two weeks. Heā€™d better get a job.

If you find yourself near a Walmart this pumpkin season, I highly recommend their Pumpkin Sandwich Cookies. Very good, nice cream cheese filling. I learned about them from this couple a few years ago and get them every year now.

Also, Walmart Bakery's "Decadent" line of cookies is very good. This couple has reviews on many of Decadent cookies. I like the Decadent Oatmeal Raisin which have regular & golden raisins and the Decadent Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk but they have a ton of varieties in the Decadent line to try. Beware the calories listed on the package are for HALF a cookie.

I am low on blocks of cheese. I need to make a Costco trip soon, probably Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm making my list.

Hooters?

No.

by Anonymousreply 348September 3, 2023 8:06 PM

I hate wings.

I went to a student dance bar after the football game in this college town. Most of the guys were shirtless, and it didn't seem to impress the young ladies in the club. Some of the guys were really peacocking. I'll grant most of them have worked out and had a right to be shirtless. Thirty years ago, I would have approached a sad one who was passed over by the ladies that night. Getting a blow job is much better than not getting one. Some of these guys looked ripe for the picking.

Labour day Sunday is always so melancholic for me. Idk why

by Anonymousreply 351September 4, 2023 12:44 AM

Labor Day marks the end of summer. When you're a child, that's depressing because you have to go back to school after three months of relaxation.

by Anonymousreply 352September 4, 2023 12:46 AM

The roads are so so quiet. I feel like going for a drive around the neighborhood blasting Maggie May as loud as possible

by Anonymousreply 353September 4, 2023 12:51 AM

"Maggie May" was huge as the school year started in 1971. The whole album, really.
Labor Day marks the end of summer. When you're a child, that's depressing because you have to go back to school after three months of relaxation.

When I was a kid, after three months, I was bored with summer and looking forward to going back to school, especially if I had some new clothes and a new pencil box for the occasion.

God, you guys. I can't believe you wanted to go back to school.

While I thought it was self improvement, I was scaring people with my Sybil shit.

by Anonymousreply 360September 4, 2023 4:09 AM

I used to dread back to school week. Wearing new shoes and clothes felt so uncomfortable, especially after spending most of the summer barefoot and in a bathing suit. I also didnā€™t really have a bedtime in summer, went to bed when I was tired and slept until I woke up. That first week back and having to go to bed early and not being able to sleep, and then wake up at dawn was torture.

by Anonymousreply 361September 4, 2023 4:14 AM

by Anonymousreply 363September 4, 2023 4:48 AM

In Texas, school let out for summer around June 10th and started again August 9th. It was well over 100 degrees every single day for all but about ten non-consecutive days during that span.

by Anonymousreply 364September 4, 2023 5:16 AM

And if you went to school in Texas, until the 1970ā€™s there were very few classrooms with a/c.

by Anonymousreply 385September 5, 2023 3:34 PM

I devoured a honeydew melon last week. I have bad luck with watermelons and didnā€™t feel like throwing $6 away again, so I opted for a honeydew melon. I hadnā€™t had one in years. It was so unbelievably good. I let it sit for a few days after I got it, until I could catch a faint whiff when I held it to my nose. I know this sounds sexual but I swear by itā€” it works for pineapples, and mangoes, and pretty much all fruit (within reason). If you canā€™t smell it but you go for it anyway, youā€™re going to be let down. I have this rule for restaurants as well. If it doesnā€™t smell like food when I set foot in there, I leave! Iā€™ve never had great food at a place that didnā€™t smell like cooking. Iā€™ve been charmed by the staff and stayed despite my instincts, and it is never good, just $30-$60 down the drain.

by Anonymousreply 386September 5, 2023 3:36 PM

I have a lot of albums set up in Apple Photos. You can sort the albums at any time by name or date on a Mac, but the program that synchs your Mac with your mobile devices does not keep track of the sorting of albums. If the albums get out of order on your mobile device (which can happen easily if you add new ones or scroll through them because an accidental touch on the album name can wind up moving the album within its folder), the only way to put them back in order is to move them manuallyā€”one at a time.

Things got so messy on my iPad, my only option was to erase my iPad and start the Photos sync from scratch. It may take days to completely download.

Come on Apple.

by Anonymousreply 387September 5, 2023 5:09 PM

Google photos is fantastic and tags using AI. I'll never use Apple Photos again.

by Anonymousreply 388September 5, 2023 5:13 PM

Do you use Google Photos in an Apple environment? If I take a photo with my iPhone or download one from the internet, it automatically goes into Apple Photos. Wouldnā€™t I have to manually move them into Google Photos?

by Anonymousreply 389September 5, 2023 6:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 407September 6, 2023 12:52 AM

R393, I still get them and whenever Iā€™ve mentioned them to someone, they always tell me they do too. The most common recurring one for me is that I show up to take a final exam for a class that Iā€™ve never attended once and havenā€™t studied for. Those are anxiety inducing.

One time I had one where somehow I missed some critical classes in high school even though (in real life and in my dream) Iā€™d already finished college. But for some reason that dream didnā€™t totally freak me out. I was going to be allowed to keep my college degree, but as a very old adult, I was sent back to high school and had to take some classes again because apparently there was a mistake and I hadnā€™t taken them so my high school diploma was revoked. It wasnā€™t scary like taking a test for a class you know nothing about. More, aw man, I know I already took this but youā€™re making me take it again? Fine. I donā€™t care.

I bet everybody in the world gets them except for Lauren Boebert. I canā€™t imagine what her bad dreams about school are. She didnā€™t finish high school and needs to go learn some stuff? How could that be scary to her? Thatā€™s her real life.

by Anonymousreply 408September 6, 2023 1:19 AM

I don't have the college dream that much. Probably because I actually failed a required class my last semester. My recurring bad dream is working in a restaurant and suddenly having 10 tables and each one is problematic in its own way.

by Anonymousreply 409September 6, 2023 1:28 AM

I was a terrible student and left everything to the last minute. I.e., I was a "crammer." My nightmares involve having exams the next day and I only read 3 chapters of a 20-chapter book. Stuff like that. Also, that there's one class that I forgot all about and didn't attend classes for 2 months.

by Anonymousreply 410September 6, 2023 2:49 AM
My recurring bad dream is working in a restaurant and suddenly having 10 tables and each one is problematic in its own way.

Former bar / restaurant worker here. I have restaurant nightmares, too. Suddenly, my section is filling up. People / customers have been waiting for their drink orders. I have forgotten what their drink orders were. Etc.

by Anonymousreply 411September 6, 2023 2:55 AM

I waited tables as a teens and and I still get those "in the weeds" dreams as well. Later, in my early 20s, I worked second shift in a nursing home as a CNA.

My duties included getting everyone up from their naps, getting them spiffed up and wheeling them down to the dining room for dinner, helping them eat, then wheeling them back to their rooms and putting them to bed for the night. We were always "short staffed", but those places always are, they have no intention of keeping a truly adequate staff levels, especially us grunts; it's all lies.

It was emotionally whelming for many reasons, including the residents (as they were called) either wanted to go to bed right this damn minute or they wanted to stay up, or they would go to bed without fuss either way and then confusedly keep getting up and getting dressed to "go to breakfast" every two hours after going to bed. I always felt like the reverse of the Little Old Woman Who Lived in the Shoe (with so many children she knew not what to do). I was the kid who was trying to be responsible for this ragtag crew of old people who were raising hell, wandering around with someone else's teeth in their mouth, dying (sad), getting into each other's beds, pissing in the clothes hamper, etc. I would run to help one and two more would be getting into trouble when my back was turned.

We had a lot of people who had lived through the Depression and as such, there were many food sneakers (would-be hoarders but we went through their things too much for it to get to that point-- a stash of old bananas and saltines in a drawer, etc). They'd glean from the dinner trays of others who didn't have an appetite as we were busy wheeling those who couldn't walk out of the dining room.

I'll never forget June walking down the long hall with her walker-- I could tell them by ear, I learned their gaits by osmosis, just like you can tell your dogs apart in the dark just by listening to their footsteps, you know who walks how. Anyway, June, at the very end of the hall, almost to her room, about seventy feet from me at the beginning of the hall, charting paperwork before leaving for the night-- I remember glancing up at her long enough to see her stop for a beat and then and triumphantly pivot her walker toward her door just as pleated baggies of ham salad sandwiches fell out of the bottom of her skirt.

I still dream of these people. I dream that the hallway never ends and everyone is crying to be put to bed. I miss them all and I will be happy to see them again someday.

Delicious and the perfect breakfast for a construction worker or farmer with a day of plowing the fields ahead of him. For me, a person who will be sitting in my recliner and working from a laptop all day, totally unnecessary. But delicious.

I miss the black characters on food boxes. Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben, and the Cream of Wheat man. I grew up eating that stuff, and I found their constant presence comforting. I thought the most recent iteration of Aunt Jemima looked really nice with her stylish hair, pearl earrings and lipstick. It's sad that they replaced the Cream of Wheat man with a few staffs of wheat, Aunt Jemima unceremoniously labeled Pearl Milling Company and replaced with a generic image of a building. Uncle Ben's image is gone and they didn't even bother with an image of anything else.

It's worse, in a way. They had become more than that, over the decades. They deserved better. It's like they died.

I thought the image update was to turn her into a savvy businesswoman instead of, well, essentially a slave. So I liked the change in appearance, but the name ā€œAunt Jemimaā€ was always going to be a painful reminder of the history of the brand, so I think ending it was the right thing to do. What I don't understand is using browned butter. Supposedly, it makes every recipe (involving butter) taste better. If so, why not use it for every recipe. Also, it seems like it would flatten out baked goods (you have to melt the butter to brown it).

I have a leak in my two-year-old roof.

Called roofing company yesterday and woman said she had a crew in my area today and they would be out first thing.

"Crew" turned out to be one young guy named Daniel who FORGOT HIS LADDER. I do not own a ladder tall enough nor does my neighbor. Daniel will be back tomorrow WITH A LADDER.

Can't make this crap up.

Cute r483.

When I was a kid I thought the huge white house in my town that took up half a block and had big white pillars and massive beautiful grounds, fountain, circular driveway and limousines in front was The White House where the President of the United States lived.

When my uncle died, I learned it was actually a funeral home.

Also, why do Italians take six-year-olds to wakes/funerals? It's traumatizing for children, all the wailing, moaning and flailing about.

I got a shower scrubby (whatever those mesh balls that you put body wash on are called) caught on an earring while I was scrubbing my neck and behind my ears and had to finish my shower and then get out with it still stuck on my earring and cut it out with scissors. It made me feel like a dolphin caught in a tuna net.

Iā€™m a guy but Iā€™ve had pierced ears and worn earrings (just little silver hoops) for over 30 years.

If you have any piercings below your chin, Iā€™d be particularly careful with those things.
I have began writing . I am currently working on 2 stories

Blanche: What day is this? I've been up for 72 hours. I had a breakthrough. I discovered a new form of writing. I will go down in history. First I wrote all day, then I tore it all up, and then that night it came to me, and the words poured forth like liquid from a stream. It was almost a mystical experience. Somebody else was writing this.

Rose: Who?

Blanche: Everyman. This is everyman's work. It's all gold. Just open it anywhere and the magic will touch you. But I'm so tired. I must sleep. And I cannot sleep. I am too tired to sleep. I will never sleep again. I may die from this. What am I gonna do? My God, I'm hallucinating. I see little balls of sunshine in a bag. Does this mean something?

Rose: Those are egg yolks, Blanche.

Blanche: My brain's gone. My body is limp with exhaustion. I suppose all the greats knew this feeling. And the thing is, after all this I've decided not to sell my book. It's too good to sell. They can publish it after I'm dead, like Vincent van Gogh.

Dorothy: Van Gogh was a painter, Blanche.

Blanche: Whatever. It's all the same thing. We're all artists. We're all misunderstood. He cut off his hair. Maybe I'll cut off mine.

Dorothy: He cut off his ear.

Blanche: I have too many earrings.

The Target in my neighborhood was selling Halloween candy by the entrance in mid-August.

For some reason when I went in yesterday, they'd changed the display to an assortment of laundry detergents and household cleaners.

Maybe they sold out of the candy and now they're selling customers clean-up supplies for egged homes and candy shart stains?

Visiting my parents in my hometown. The place is so sleepy and quiet. I love visiting them in September when the late summer , early Fall ambiance feels like a blanket of nostalgia. It has helped with my writing. I just drove near my old high-school, parked the car , played Boys of Summer.

by Anonymousreply 516September 12, 2023 8:05 PM

I get really nostalgic when I go to my hometown, too, though its a few states away.

Some nights when I can't sleep, I fire up the Google Street View on my phone and go up and down the streets of my childhood from the comfort of my bed. I wish there was a street view that went way back in time. I would love to have seen my neighborhood 50, 60, 70 years back.

by Anonymousreply 517September 12, 2023 8:42 PM

I sometimes drive through the old neighborhood when I am passing by. It hasn't changed a bit. I can see things happening 60 years ago when I pass the houses. Now all of those kids are 65-75 years old. All of our parents are dead. The woman who now lives in the house I grew up in cut down the evergreen tree my parents planted on the day I was born. It reached 15 ft. tall when I went off to college. Dad would put strings of those large lights that were predominant at the time all around the tree. Our neighbors loved it.

My nephew-in-law could not believe my sister and I could name the occupants of those houses when we grew up when we went on a Christmas light ride. We remembered dozens of them.

I had my fasting blood draw done earlier today. The technician who took my blood was really nice. She looked at both arms and chose to take blood from my left arm. I guess I have small veins. It was pretty painless.

We shall see what my results are. A couple of years ago, my cholesterol shot up. After that, I stopped going to McDonald's. I live close to 2 different McD's, so it was so easy to stop there (drive-through) on the way home.

by Anonymousreply 528September 13, 2023 7:35 PM

Good luck with your blood work, R528. I was in a similar situation with my cholesterol.

I had started treating myself to a Taylor Ham (Pork Roll), egg, and cheese on a roll every other Sunday or so during the Spring. My doctor noticed my cholesterol was up and I told her I could get it down. I didn't tell her about the THEC fests. I have to get more blood work in November and I'm sure my cholesterol will be down significantly.

R536, does it need iron? My dad has some maple trees and the leaves were starting to yellow while the veins remained green. He treated them with iron that can be sprinkled around the tree, and it helped a little. The next year they were still looking week so I told him to get some iron injections for them. You have to drill a small hole in the tree, not too deep, and pop the "injection" in, it's like a little cartridge/capsule. That helped a lot.

Maples are known for getting anemic, at least in my neck of the woods. It will kill them eventually, if not treated. You can get the iron injections on Amazon.
