The Gays and Tennis Part 145 - 2023 Clay Court Season Cont.

Part 144 was paywalled, like all tennis threads. If someone could post this to Part 144 to let everyone know there is a new thread, it would be much appreciated.

Fritz-Rublev just go suspended for rain. It wasn't a great match. Lots of breaks of serve. Fritz played terribly in the second set. Just as both players were raising their games, along came the rain.

I'm really looking forward to Sinner-Rune. We could very well see those two and Alcaraz playing against each other in Slam finals. I hope we see that happen this year. Nadal pulled out of Barcelona. If he comes back and wins yet another French Open, I'll be super disappointed.

The Brat's letting the second set slip away is resorting to all sorts of antics - rushing one service point then time-wasting the next, shushing the crowd. Generally being a dick.

by Anonymousreply 26April 15, 2023 6:33 PM

as someone who doesn't like Medvedev or Zverev, I'm loving their hatred of each other. Let's hope Zverev wins the next match they play with more cattiness afterwards

by Anonymousreply 27April 15, 2023 6:44 PM

Throw in Djokovic too, R21, and the psychodrama would never end.

by Anonymousreply 28April 15, 2023 6:47 PM

Well, the Danish brat wins. Sad for Sinner. I hope Rublev wins but I doubt it (even with the time advantage)

by Anonymousreply 29April 15, 2023 7:52 PM

Sinner's making a bit of a habit of crumbling when it counts. The Brat definitely raised his level, but Jannick's serve disintegrated in that 3rd set. Another one that gets away.

by Anonymousreply 30April 15, 2023 8:01 PM

The Brat is very good when it counts. He is relentless, aggressive and bratty. And I thought he had broken up with Mouratoglou...

by Anonymousreply 31April 15, 2023 8:03 PM

Sinner nearly blew it with Alcaraz at the Miami Open even though Alcaraz had bad cramping and couldn't move around at all. Sinner can't close.

by Anonymousreply 32April 15, 2023 9:11 PM

I'm really here for Rune's pointy nipples. I wanna see more.

lol @ the difference in handshakes

Sinner was about as pissed as I've ever seen him due to Rune intentionally trying to him during the match during and even after points

meanwhile Rublev must be Mr. Congeniality. Everyone seems to want to fuck him. First Dimitrov earlier this week rubbing his hair now Fritz giving an extra chest/stomach rubdown. We cameras in those lockerrooms!

by Anonymousreply 39April 16, 2023 1:45 AM

I love Rune. Enough of the boring pussy boyz. None of them are above gamesmanship. None of them.

What happened to Felix AA? He's fading out of the top 20, he's soooo bad this year.

by Anonymousreply 40April 16, 2023 1:51 AM

The Canadian takeover of tennis that some delusional Canadian journalist predicted a few years ago never came about.

by Anonymousreply 41April 16, 2023 1:55 AM

Felix is currently #7 and hasn't been out of the top 20 for a couple of years, R40. Nice try, though.

by Anonymousreply 42April 16, 2023 2:00 AM

Why is Rune called “Gorilla”?

by Anonymousreply 43April 16, 2023 2:08 AM

I wish Alcaraz and Rune had been 5 years older. They would have ended the nauseating and beyond tiresome reign of Nadal and Djokovic.

by Anonymousreply 44April 16, 2023 2:15 AM

Rune is a cute twink but yeah there's too much brat - he doesn't seem to get along with anyone but Novak and maybe Kyrgios. Great company.

Rublev is adorable and I find him most attractive when he's upset on the court or joking off of it. Also in one of the shorts, he went on endlessly about how he laughed at a failed Medvedev fake-shot, until he was crying on the floor with his abs hurting.

by Anonymousreply 45April 16, 2023 2:15 AM

I think that now Nadal and Djokovic will not win any more grand slams. Nadal is semi-retired and Djoko is starting to show his age.

by Anonymousreply 46April 16, 2023 2:20 AM

Coco swims in the lady pond right?

by Anonymousreply 47April 16, 2023 2:23 AM

he might go full on psycho again and get himself banned

by Anonymousreply 53April 16, 2023 5:43 AM

I like Rune. He reminds me of a Danish guy I dated for a while back in the 90s. He actually looks a lot like him. Or at least a lot like the way I remember him today. And his name, as things would have it, was actually Holger. Sweet Holger whose fair skin would turn red as a beetroot at the slightest evocation of what I would do to him when we'd be back home. Not that he was opposing, au contraire. Or was it Helge? Yes, I think it was Helge. Helge with his eyes as blue as the Baltic sea and a huge fan of Mariah Carey. I must have heard "Can't Stop Loving You" at least a thousand times at his place. Or was it Harald? Anyway, it started with an H and we had a lot of fun while it lasted but it was a long distance relationship with all the ramifications and temptations that come with it. I'm rooting for Rune in the final in the name of a Danish boy whose name started also started with an H. And because I like brats and their strong demonstrative character.

by Anonymousreply 54April 16, 2023 7:19 AM

So you've had sweet H and you get rancid H now.

by Anonymousreply 55April 16, 2023 7:43 AM

2 masters 1000 is a bit too much for someone like Rune who didn't really win that much, but it shows that he really gets there when there's an oportunity unlike Sinner who seems unable to win when it matters (even if i think right now the italian is a way better player than the danish)

by Anonymousreply 56April 16, 2023 10:56 AM

R40 but rune is boring

by Anonymousreply 57April 16, 2023 12:01 PM

Rune DOES seem to get along with several players. He and Fritz, doubles partners, seemed very content together. Again, as I stated in the last thread, we don't know the real dynamics of the players and their relationships. They call each other out in Madrid. In Brussels, they're practicing together sharing a joke and an energy drink.

Rune is a bit bratty, still, but he'll grow out of it. Probably. Maybe. If not, so what. I adore Alcaraz, everything about him, but he's one of a kind.

by Anonymousreply 58April 16, 2023 12:11 PM

Rune is anything but boring. When the crowd got under his skin, he played better. He's a STAR. Sinner is going to be an also-ran, like Titsy and Zverev. Museti is the one whose potential is high. He probably needs better coaching.

by Anonymousreply 59April 16, 2023 12:14 PM

R59 So Djoko is not boring according to you?

by Anonymousreply 60April 16, 2023 12:31 PM

Thank God for Andrey!

Get back in your buggy you bawling Baby Brat!

by Anonymousreply 61April 16, 2023 3:20 PM

RUBLEV!!!!

by Anonymousreply 62April 16, 2023 3:22 PM

So great to see Rublev win humbly and to be overcome in the emotion of the moment.

If Rune does achieve tennis greatness, it'll probably be in the same vein of tennis infamy as Connors, Nastase or McEnroe. Or maybe he'll reverse his early tennis brat ways like Federer did (but Roger was never as bratty as Holger).

Interesting stat re Sinner in the link...

Poor Grigor was mugged in Barcelona. He fell prey to a brazen robbery that saw his high-end Bianchet watch, valued at a staggering 70,000 euros, snatched right off his wrist.

While the robbers remain unidentified and the stolen watch yet to be recovered, authorities suspect the involvement of professional Neapolitan thieves, who may have descended upon Barcelona to capitalize on the influx of tourists drawn by the high-profile tennis tournament.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 67April 16, 2023 5:26 PM

Poor Grigor, deprived of a ridiculously ostentatious piece of conspicuous consumption. A casualty of the Monte Carlo bubble, utterly oblivious of the hoi polloi.

by Anonymousreply 68April 16, 2023 6:13 PM

One of the robbers was said to have come close enough to close the wing mirror of the Bulgarian’s car, prompting him to roll down the window and stick his hand out to fix it. And his £62k Bianchet brand watch was ripped off his wrist in the process.

Clutch the pearls, what a sneaky thing to do

by Anonymousreply 69April 16, 2023 8:32 PM

Feel terrible I was not around to help poor young Grigor through this terrible ordeal. Does anyone have intel where he might be staying now? Alone? I mean I assume he's alone. What a traumatizing experience that must've been. It might've made him skeptical of people right now.

By Jove, I'm torn that Luca Van ASSsche's gorgeous blue eyes sit just under that giant fivehead. Oh well, taking a set off Novaxx in their first encounter, while Novaxx plays at home is nothing to sneeze at. Meanwhile he's the best ranked player under 19, just ahead of fellow Frenchman Arthur Fils. Which brings the question: why are the French players so consistently good juniors and then fail to live up to the expectations they set as youngers? Anyone remembers when that Spanish guy, Nadal, was supposed to be Gasquet's second fiddle? Nah, me neither.

Meh, not sure what to do with Borna's new look: long hair, emaciated, shaggy. Maybe that's the look that sister-wife Bruna likes the most, so who are we to tell him how he looks best? But he's no Samson and the long hair certainly does not help his results: 7W-7L in 2023 is not exactly impressive for a former No. 1 in the junior rankings and meanwhile our boy is already 26 year old and the best he has to show for it is a quarter final at the US Open in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 139April 20, 2023 9:44 AM

Nadal: "The injury still hasn't healed and I can't do the necessary work in order to compete. I was training but now a few days ago we decided to change course a bit, do a different treatment and see if things improve in order to be ready for what comes next."

by Anonymousreply 142April 20, 2023 10:42 AM

I can't see Nadal going to Roland Garros this year. Even if he does, I don't see him getting to the semis or finals. His statement makes it clear he's not been able to really train. Hopefully someone other than Nadal or Djokovic wins RG this year.

by Anonymousreply 197April 23, 2023 2:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 207April 23, 2023 10:08 PM

So admirable!

by Anonymousreply 208April 23, 2023 10:11 PM

I read somewhere that Rafa hated to lose more than he loved to win. I get that vibe from Rune, too.

by Anonymousreply 209April 23, 2023 10:13 PM

But Nadal does it without expressing hatred for his opponent.

by Anonymousreply 210April 23, 2023 10:20 PM

^ I think 'hatred' is too strong a word

by Anonymousreply 211April 23, 2023 10:22 PM

The Barcelona trophy ceremony is so overdone as are so many ceremonies nowadays. The Eastern European ones led the way, and now its spreading.

by Anonymousreply 212April 23, 2023 10:52 PM

No all time great has more excuses for losing than Nadal. That's hardly sporting. He has his team diminish his losses by spreading the word, like when Courier intimated Djoker's 2021 win in the semis was tainted because he saw Rafa back at the hotel, limping.

by Anonymousreply 213April 23, 2023 10:54 PM

Okay, then R211, let's just say that Rune expresses a degree of animosity that causes typically nice guys like Ruud and Wawrinka to become antagonistic.

by Anonymousreply 214April 23, 2023 11:04 PM

I enjoyed Aryna smashing the ball near Iga's face. What was the purpose of Iga running to the net?? To intimidate Aryna. Loved Aryna's response

by Anonymousreply 215April 24, 2023 12:02 AM

Aryna came across really well today. The match was very high quality despite the scoreline and she was funny post-match. She should be a DL fave.

by Anonymousreply 216April 24, 2023 12:24 AM

I love those big 6 foot girls like Aryna - but does anybody else think she has a mannish face? That's something I keep noticing in Russian and Eastern European women - mannish faces and big upper arm muscles. Do you think they take testosterone or something? Maybe if you start it early enough, you'd be more likely to make to 6 foot tall.

by Anonymousreply 217April 24, 2023 12:36 AM

There's a reason she's known as She-Hulk on DL.

by Anonymousreply 218April 24, 2023 12:39 AM

Sabalenka and Rybakina are bringing back BIG BABE tennis!

by Anonymousreply 219April 24, 2023 12:54 AM

Somebody had to step up when Serena stepped down as the hulktress!

by Anonymousreply 220April 24, 2023 1:04 AM

Tsitsipas chose the OHBH when he was 8 years old because he was a huge fan of Sampras and Federer. I guess this choice is going to substantially impede his career and will see him end up with many more trays than cups in his trophy room. He just lost five finals in a row. And he's standing 0-10 in 500 tournaments. That backhand is so bad it's really hurting him: bad return of serve, bad slice, no DTL worthy of mention, no inside out at all, most of them landing in the service boxes. And shank after shank after shank. Bad, bad, bad. Probably the worst backhand in top 5 level tennis since... Yannick Noah?

by Anonymousreply 221April 24, 2023 6:10 AM

Ohbh?

by Anonymousreply 222April 24, 2023 10:12 AM

one-handed backhand.

by Anonymousreply 223April 24, 2023 10:26 AM

Yeah, I'm bemused by his inability to hit a good slice. He has good hands at net. He has a decent drop shot (doesn't he?) Most club players 4.0 an higher have a better slice.

I know nothing about Tommy Paul's political affiliation but the girlfriend is beyond trashtastic, the kind of overly done plastic beauty that never goes out before her face is perfectly contoured and the hair extensions blend seamlessly with the hair. You see a lot of that around Mar-a-Lago, so not a good sign. I don't like her.

Maybe I'm just jealous. But at least I'm ready in 20 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 231April 25, 2023 7:57 PM

Cincy is 56 men and women for this year. It's not as much fun to go to, as it was in the early 80's. You could wander around, talk to players. Connors and Lendl surprisingly, were always accessible. McEnroe would have a limo waiting, and I once chased him to it, he refused autograph requests. Bud Collins signed his tennis encyclopedia to me, asked what club I played at, and he knew our head pro- then it was Gary Addie (Pauline Betz's son). I get the Seles stabbing changed things, and people like Fed and Nadal needed protection because they did get mobbed. The women's event is always 2nd class, unless Serena, Venus or Sharapova were playing. I get the Coco hype, there is desperation for a US lady to be #1. The visible strains on her, definitely from her asshole parents, is sad to see.

by Anonymousreply 282April 29, 2023 5:48 AM

I get the feeling Coco has peaked already.

by Anonymousreply 288April 29, 2023 3:20 PM

Felix, Emma and Coco. Hmm. What do these three have in common?

by Anonymousreply 289April 29, 2023 3:34 PM

Coco's FH was a disaster. Damm. Somebody needs to fix that shot.

by Anonymousreply 290April 29, 2023 3:41 PM

Coco needs to do what Pektovic recommended, and just be offensive minded. Who cares if you miss, put the fear in your opponent. And yes, send your father HOME. Tell him to get a job, or go gamble or spend the day at Hooter's. Stay away from her matches. You want to look at your box and believe they are behind you, and there's no way Coco feels that.

by Anonymousreply 291April 29, 2023 3:50 PM

I don't think it's always an advantage to have a bye - which the top 32 seeds do here. I get that better players are sometimes going deep the week before and the rest is welcome. Also, for smaller, one-week tournaments that are paying appearance fees - part of the appeal might be "you don't need to be here until Wednesday." But, still, I don't always think it works to the player's advantage. Madrid started on Wednesday (the main draw). Any seeded player had to wait through one or two days of first-round play to learn their opponent. If a seeded player is on the bottom half of the draw (like Foe or Fritz), they don't play their first match until today. So, the seeded player hasn't played a match for the first three days while they'll square off against a player with a match under their belt - and at a Masters it's almost always going to be a decent player.

by Anonymousreply 292April 29, 2023 3:54 PM

Coco always had a somewhat janky forehand - both swing mechanics and footwork. But a structurally janky shot can be overcome if a player actually believes in it. Not every player will have "academy strokes." But she doesn't seem to believe right now. It's getting in her head and she's doubting. A team rebuild might be the best thing. I've said it before - her dad deserves credit; he's got her this far, which is a pretty damn high level. But, not only for her tennis, but for her personal maturity, her parents should step back. Don't attend some tournaments, let Coco and a non-parent coach go alone sometimes. I know it's all arm-chair coaching, but Coco seems at a crossroads, even if she is very young.

by Anonymousreply 293April 29, 2023 4:01 PM

She definitely is. I feel bad. She seems nice.

Nothing to do with just being American - but I've always associated being obsessed with the American flag (and Tommy showed up his American-flag wallet and said he loved everything with flags on it) -- I mean, every guy I've known who was like that was MAGA.

And I think country music, which he loves, is popular with MAGAs but most other men his age (25) were into rock or rap - my experience anyway.

Glad to hear that may not be true in this case. (Tommy joining the George Floyd protest)

by Anonymousreply 332April 30, 2023 7:18 PM

What was the reference, R332?

by Anonymousreply 333April 30, 2023 7:25 PM

It was around the time Alcaraz was either broken or broke back early in the second set. Courier started to say the opportunity was slipping through his hands and made a "Like sands through the hourglass, these are the days of Alcaraz's life" remark. Shortly thereafter he apologized and said it was a '70s TV reference that tennis viewers and his co-commentator were unlikely to understand.

The Brat being an utter, utter dick yet again. ADF had a line dispute, and the Umpire had been called. Just before he arrives Rune goes and scrubs the mark out.

Rune now bitching to Bernades about the crowd.

Bernades is like "You made your bed, lie in it"

by Anonymousreply 336April 30, 2023 8:51 PM

I hope the call was made against Rune after he scrubbed out the mark. This one thing has turnt me into a hater. I don't think even McEnroe would do such an appalling thing. That's cheating! They should call the match at that point, imo.

His super boisterous "go bro" fist pumping and "come on" and team interaction can be annoying. If you've ever seen a college tennis match, you'd understand where he gets that from - it's ALL that and then some in college team matches.

While I often find it annoying, Shelton never goes further than that - he doesn't direct animosity towards opponents or towards the chair and doesn't get pissy or stunt-y. And he seems to be one of the nicest guys when it's over - always willing to genuinely congratulate his opponent.

I was attacked for having too much sex and injuring my Barcelona footballer husband... and now it's happening again! TV presenter Melissa Satta hits back at trolls over her relationship with tennis ace Matteo Berrettini

The girlfriend of tennis star Matteo Berrettini has taken a swipe at trolls who blame their relationship for his injury woes.

Former Maxim model Satta, 37, was previously married to ex-Barcelona midfielder Kevin Prince-Boateng.

'Even there they attacked me saying that we had too much sex and that was the cause of his physical problems.

'[The injury Berrettini has] is an injury in the same place as the one in 2021, when I didn't know him. But in any case - do I really have to answer to these people?'

Berrettini himself has come out to totally rubbish the claims that his ills are anything to do with their relationship.

Speaking ahea of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 event last month, Berrettini said: 'I cannot conceive how a relationship can allow you not to do your job, but people talk.

'We live in the era of social media, where everyone can say anything and it seems to me as if general education has been lost. In the end, however, I am happy, this is what matters.'

Berrettini, the former world No 6, has seen his world ranking tumble and he is currently on a tennis break.

He attended the Met Gala on Monday without Satta but her social media activity has her tagged in various other events across New York City.

Berrettini, runner-up at Wimbledon in 2021, wore an all-black tuxedo set, paired with a bow tie, all designed by Boss, one of his sponsors.

The Italian has not played since pulling out of the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters through injury.

by Anonymousreply 419May 3, 2023 6:03 PM

Satta looks like Tomljanovic but with much larger breasts, which somehow seems insulting to both women.

by Anonymousreply 420May 3, 2023 6:13 PM

Satta is 37yrs old! she's fucking old!

by Anonymousreply 421May 3, 2023 6:55 PM

First round byes need to go.

Altmeier, ranked 98, replaced Carrsno Busta (I think it was) in the draw so inherited his bye.

That’s insane.

by Anonymousreply 422May 3, 2023 7:50 PM

Miss Satta, we're very glad that both your Barcelona footballer husband and tennis hottie Matteo Berrettini could get their injury healed with a shot of penicillin.

by Anonymousreply 423May 3, 2023 8:15 PM

Porna looks really different with the long hair.

(He’s trouncing Altmaier.)

by Anonymousreply 424May 3, 2023 8:18 PM

Just NUTS that Coric is going to be a semi-finalist. Clay court tennis, man.

by Anonymousreply 426May 3, 2023 9:08 PM

It’s nuts that Porna’s ranking is so high. He’s been coasting off that surprise Cincinnati title.

This run will help ensure his ranking doesn’t drop like a stone in August when the Cincinnati points go off.

he sure is purdy

Not feeling Porna - from a looks perspective. The short hair was better.

Anyone who has a big result and is coasting on that result will feel the pain the next year if they don't repeat that performance or come close.

Juan Martin del Potro confirmed that he would like to play at least one last match this year at the US Open. Given that he won the title in 2009 and given his huge popularity among tennis aficionadi, I don't see how the US Open can say no to that request. However it will depend on how his knee behaves while ramping up the training into the summer.

Meanwhile he was seen on a tennis court with Gaby Sabatini, one of the most beautiful women you'll ever see on a tennis court. She's 51 now and is still hasn't found the man of her dream. I hope Young Grigor's agent takes notice and makes this relationship happen, so that everyone can think Young Grigor is a lucky dude and that Gaby is a cougar totally set on younger men.

[quote][R443] are you saying Delpo is gay?

I am not saying that he's gay. I am not even implying it. If 5% of the population is gay, I would put the odds of him being gay at 5%. Now if you had asked about Young Grigor, I would put the odds at 80%, based on a dating story that looks like it was all dreamed up in an agent office with a string of professional beards. I also never believed he was with Sharapova based on the story that he was acting nice and goofy with the other players when she wasn't around him to suddenly become subdued and tense the minute she would show up around the players lounge. You cannot ignore either that his favorite music acts are Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Madonna. No, seriously, he said that in an interview. The reps must have been scrambling to make sure that rock and rap were also his favorite genres. And then there was at least a picture of him, that I unfortunately can no longer find on the net, where he was lying down near a fireplace and everything about him in this picture was screaming "I'm the ultimate seductor". However conventional distribution of roles, even in today's more tolerant Western society, assigns to women the power of seduction and to men the power to be seduced. This made me think that Young Grigor was not abiding by the convention, but reverting them. Which, surprise!, mostly happens in the LGBT community, where someone can be a seductor in a given context and the person being seduced in another context. The fact that my spell-checker insists on substituting "seductress" for each occurrence of "seductor" is quite apt at showing the division of roles in the game of seduction.

When I posted the bygone photo of Grigor by the fireplace, someone responded to my post that you cannot take pictures in overly suggestive, sexually inviting poses and pretend to be heterosexual. Maybe the analysis was shared by Young Grigor's reps and that's why the picture has been taken down across the Internet.

Amanda Anisimova announces indefinite break

NEW YORK — The WTA Tour says Amanda Anisimova plans to take an indefinite break from tennis, citing burnout and concerns for her mental health.

“I’ve really been struggling with my mental health and burnout since the summer of 2022,” the former world No. 21 American wrote on Instagram. “It’s become unbearable being at tennis tournaments. At this point, my priority is my mental well-being and taking a break for some time. I’ve worked as hard as I could to push through it. I will miss being out there, and I appreciate all the continuous support.”

Anisimova, now 21, reached the 2019 French Open semifinals after beating reigning champion Simona Halep at age 17 – the youngest woman to get that far at a major since 2006.

But later that year, just prior to the U.S. Open, her father and longtime coach Konstantin died at age 52 from a heart attack.

Anisimova reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon a year ago, upsetting Coco Gauff. She twice reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and beat defending champion Naomi Osaka at the 2022 event in Melbourne.

Anisimova, a winner of two WTA singles titles, gave no timetable for her return. Currently ranked No. 46, she lost in the first round of the Madrid Open last week to Arantxa Rus and was 3-8 in match results for the season.

by Anonymousreply 481May 6, 2023 8:47 PM

Sounds to hear that about Anisimova but it’s but clear things haven’t been right for her.

Hope the break is what she needs.

by Anonymousreply 498May 7, 2023 5:12 PM

R498, I realize that. I’m just riffing on the trans and pronoun obsession.

by Anonymousreply 501May 7, 2023 5:32 PM

One set all.

by Anonymousreply 502May 7, 2023 6:24 PM

Second great final in 2 days. Very impressed with how Struff has handled this match so far. He's not even been serving well and has managed to keep Carlitos under pressure all the way through.

This third set should be very interesting.

by Anonymousreply 503May 7, 2023 6:25 PM

Looks like Struff has no intention of rolling over (even though I’d do it in a heartbeat for Carlitos).

by Anonymousreply 504May 7, 2023 6:31 PM

I've also been very impressed by Struff. Was surprised to learn he's never won a title - it feels like he's been around forever.

by Anonymousreply 505May 7, 2023 6:40 PM

Wow Struff's aggression is intimidating Carlos. Struff could win Wimbledon this year. Is he in a love relationship with his loud coach? Something very intense going on there.

by Anonymousreply 506May 7, 2023 6:42 PM

R506 I'd love to see that dynamic - Dominant Top Struff meets Power Bottom Marvin.

by Anonymousreply 507May 7, 2023 6:47 PM

I’d love it if Struff won just so we could see him and his coach hug and make out on pista Rafael Nadal.

by Anonymousreply 508May 7, 2023 6:56 PM

Don’t drain the pista!

by Anonymousreply 509May 7, 2023 6:57 PM

Elite’s Miguel Bernardeau is also in the audience.

by Anonymousreply 510May 7, 2023 7:03 PM

Carlitos prevails.

by Anonymousreply 511May 7, 2023 7:10 PM

Struggling had a great tournament. Before I change my view of him I want to see him build on this.

by Anonymousreply 512May 7, 2023 7:23 PM

He was indeed struggling.

by Anonymousreply 513May 7, 2023 7:26 PM

Struff… damned autocorrect.

by Anonymousreply 514May 7, 2023 9:03 PM

Alcaraz is very lucky that Struff couldn’t hit a first serve to save his life today.

by Anonymousreply 515May 7, 2023 9:46 PM

Will Carlos blow off Rome? He could move ahead of Novak, and be top seed for Paris if he plays. Novak is struggling on clay, and if his shoulder is hurting, no way is he beating these guys.

by Anonymousreply 516May 8, 2023 1:05 AM

I'm sure his team will decide based entirely on how playing Rome impact's his chances at Roland Garros. There is no week between the end of Rome and the start of Roland Garros as there has been in the past. I'm sure Carlos and his team expect him to go deep in Rome, so that's less recovery time for RG. There really needs to be a week between with non-mandatory 250s for players who want additional clay matches
