Woman abducted while on jog in Memphis, Tennessee, officials say

Ok DL sleuths? What do we think happened here?

Seems brazen.

People jog or run half-naked in places they'd never walk alone.

by Anonymousreply 3September 2, 2022 10:05 PM

I used to run after dark, even starting fairly late, but I've aged out of it. It's not because I REALLY think anything is going to happen, but my sense of unease is greater, so why bother - I can run when it's light out in areas where others are or I can go to the gym after dark. I guess I will still run and walk in the dark during the height of winter - when it's dark very early. But then I'll got to a park where a lot of people are getting their walks and runs in relatively early.

4:30 actually seems safer to me than say from 11pm till 3 am. Just my hunch.

Something about this story stood out to me. Because people don’t just go around getting shoved into vans.

Upthread, someone upthread suggested that the kidnapper knew her, and that makes more sense than a random kidnapping in this fashion and at that hour.

by Anonymousreply 13September 2, 2022 10:20 PM

She looks too old for a random raping/killing.

by Anonymousreply 14September 2, 2022 10:21 PM

The kidnapper could have known her but at least he knew her routine.

Gang bangers are not up driving around at 4:30 in Memphis. That’s a good way to get pulled over. They know that.

If someone tries to 'force' you to walk somewhere, get in a vehicle, etc.- just drop to the ground. Your weight is your advantage; not many are going to drag you. Your legs are for kicking, your nails are for scratching (DNA) and your mouth is for screaming. That's all you have. They may taze you, knife you or shoot you anyway, but don't help them abduct you.

The worst thing you can do is the 'please don't hurt me I'll do anything you want'. You won't survive.

If they carjack you and make you drive, drive into another car or into a crowd. Floor it and drive 120 mph. Lay on the horn. Take the keys out of the ignition and throw them out the window.

by Anonymousreply 41September 3, 2022 12:27 PM

R32: The wedding piece is hilarious, with all the "product placement" and the stylist "formerly of Nieman Marcus" who came up from Atlanta, which I'm sure means he's the height of chic (the Nieman Marcus in Atlanta had huge signs for the different designers because the status seekers there are too dumb to recognize the real things; their other stores don't do that).

Not much info on Richie's background besides being a navy brat. The marriage sounds stormy. He tries to come across as churchy and they met at church. No mention of an occupation--only that he's a long distance biker and if his t-shirts are an indication, a crossfit cultist. The marriage sounds troubled, from its early days.

I wonder if there's a dentist in the family or is that some sort of horrible Southern upper class upbringing thing.

Richie was a crossfit instructor when they married and has had pretty low level jobs for the hubby of an heiress, without a real career trajectory. It sounds like he's a boat salesman now, He has a degree in "project management" (whatever that is) from a Southern Baptist university

Your link doesn't work, R43.

I'm calling it now: her husband is behind this. Either did it or had it done.

Eliza's grandmother died in late July and she was coming into a big inheritance. They had a very rocky marital history, including the husband being in rehab.

The Lifetime movie will air before his case even comes to trial.

by Anonymousreply 44September 3, 2022 1:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 45September 3, 2022 1:05 PM

Her family are billionaires apparently so it seems like it’s a random thing. Cheap ass Fam only offering 50K for her .

by Anonymousreply 46September 3, 2022 1:07 PM

I don't understand the posters who think every disappearance is Papini redux. The circumstances of this woman's life and disappearance, even before the unsavory rumors about the husband emerged, couldn't have been more textbook "Dateline" shithead spouse.

by Anonymousreply 47September 3, 2022 1:11 PM

It's always the boyfriend or husband ex or otherwise

by Anonymousreply 48September 3, 2022 1:16 PM

The family probably got his job with the millwork company (high end carpentry). His Coast Guard background must have gotten him into the boat business. I wonder if the rehab was between the millwork and the boat business. He seems to be older than her and would have been a bit old to be on the marriage market in the South.

4:30 am is very early and dark. You do hear of female jogger attacks in the middle of the day, in broad daylight or late afternoons. It can happen at any time and these criminals have gotten much bolder. You can even have people around...it doesn't seem to stop them.

by Anonymousreply 53September 3, 2022 1:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 54September 3, 2022 1:35 PM

R13, I did see someone get shoved into a van in Jersey City, and while rare, it does happen. I wrote about this before on Datalounge. It was in the winter, around 6:00 p.m. so it was already dark, but there were a lot of people on the street, which is one of the main drags right by the train station. A van pulled up to the left of me. Three guys jumped out of the van and grabbed a man who was walking less than 5 ft in front of me. They pulled him into the van and drove off. I stood there, stunned, and got my phone out to call 911. While I was talking to 911 I saw, right ahead of me, the van which had stopped at a red light. I was able to give 911 the van's license plate number and the direction where they were going. I always wondered what happened to that man and why he was kidnapped (there is no doubt it was a kidnapping) and if the police ever caught them. I looked and looked for about 2 weeks in the online city newspapers and I could find no mention of this incident. It's still upsets me and creeps me out.

by Anonymousreply 55September 3, 2022 1:50 PM

I know murder is more serious than abduction, but if the husband really wanted his best chance at making this all work out - getting the money - then he should have had her killed point blank and not shoved into a car. Obviously, I'm not advocating for any of this, but how could this possibly work out if she returns at some point? She'll probably have to be killed anyway. Or she's already dead. This will be a good DL thread. I'm always fascinated at the delusions and desperation of criminals such that they really believe that it will all work out.

by Anonymousreply 56September 3, 2022 1:59 PM

Men are disgusting, murderous pigs. They even kill their own kids if left to their own devices. Women…stop spreading your legs ffs! Leave these pigs to us gays and we will rehabilitate them into civility and a productive life.

If they still want me after all that, I'll assume it's just my fucking time to go.

by Anonymousreply 60September 3, 2022 2:16 PM

Coked up underemployed husband married to an heiress and having an affair with the nanny?

The wife is not merely dead, she's sincerely dead.

by Anonymousreply 61September 3, 2022 2:22 PM

So from what I’ve learned, at least 2 people are involved in her kidnapping.

One driver, and the second person who grabbed her off the street.

Allegedly, the husband is shady AF, has a bad blow habit and owes some money to his dealers. He was allegedly banging the nanny, who’s 22.

She comes from a very wealthy, prominent family, & kicked the husband to the curb, due to his bad habit and cheating.

As soon as the TBI and FBI got involved, the investigation immediately focused on her home, and specifically, electronic devices and other items belonging to the husband, including his car.

The garden shears is odd. What do those shears have? Blood? Blood from a previous fight they may have had that turned physical?

Someone who was confided in, obviously stepped forward and spilled the beans regarding intimate details about this marriage.

Both nanny and husband have been questioned by multiple LEO agencies, and the husband lawyered up immediately.

This is probably not a random grab, & snatch/rape/murder scenario.

The command post is centered in her home. Which means this is probably a professional kidnapping.

The husband’s really shady looking. He seems very unconnected to her in all the photos I’ve seen. But I don’t believe he’s smart enough to pull this off.

Maybe people who he hangs out with, who deal him his drugs, are smart enough to pull this off.

If the grandmother died in July, Eliza hasn’t received any inheritance money yet. It takes forever to put an estate through probate. Longer than two months, that’s for sure.

by Anonymousreply 64September 3, 2022 2:44 PM

Keep in mind that people pair off with others of similar emotional development. This doesn't excuse the husband if he's the perp, but it helps set the stage.

They're both probably pretty superficial and unable to cope very well with stress or life's difficulties. He had his substance use problem, she probably had an eating disorder and/or obsessive exercise routine (they often go together). She was getting too old to be on the marriage market and he was outwardly presentable (conventionally good looking, fit, gainfully employed or so it would appear). She may have seemed too needy for the others in her social circle or perhaps she had a rebellious streak or poor judgement and tended to pick bums. The family probably wasn't too happy with him, but they probably also spoiled her and were willing too overlook his shortcomings because he made her happy and she wasn't getting any younger. She probably discovered there was a lot she didn't really know about him. Having money gave her power in the relationship (which she probably liked) but it also was emasculating. He probably liked being able to buy toys (like boats) and blow while not having to be too ambitious.

The separation and probable divorce upset all this. She had her family and her money on which to fall back. He would have lots of woes, especially if there were debts (drug or otherwise). Divorce is probably still a bit of a disgrace in some circles. Presbyterians were among the last of the big Protestant denominations to accept it (viewing it as a failure) and they belonged to a fundie-ish branch of the church. My Catholic relatives accepted divorce well before the Presbyterians. It's probably a big step for both of them and a big loss of face for her.

by Anonymousreply 65September 3, 2022 2:44 PM

I haven’t seen any mention of the couple having children in any of the articles. Why would they have a nanny?

by Anonymousreply 66September 3, 2022 2:45 PM

R7 do us all a favor and kill yourself miserable twat.

by Anonymousreply 67September 3, 2022 2:45 PM

Her Daddy is an investment banker. Grandma probably set-up trusts and other tax shelters.

by Anonymousreply 68September 3, 2022 2:46 PM

R68: They have two small children. It's in the articles that are endlessly linked on line, not to mention their social media.

by Anonymousreply 69September 3, 2022 2:47 PM

R66, the DailyMail mentions it and shows a few photos of them with their towhead toddlers. She has a job “teaching junior kindergarten” (preschool), which probably explains why she was jogging so early in the morning.

Although why leave your kids with a nanny, just to go be a nanny somewhere else? I bet the nanny cost more than she was being paid. Why not just spend the time with your own kids?

by Anonymousreply 70September 3, 2022 2:49 PM

I don’t get the kidnap angle, either. Why not just shoot her point-blank?

It is possible that this is a “Gone Girl” situation, which I would find immensely entertaining. I hope it is, because this lady doesn’t deserve what happened to her, otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 71September 3, 2022 2:51 PM

Keith Morrison is already booking his ticket to Memphis.

by Anonymousreply 72September 3, 2022 2:52 PM

She has that same rictus grin as Papini. I can’t help but wonder if she ran away.

by Anonymousreply 73September 3, 2022 3:07 PM

The husband is HIDEOUS looking.

She could easily have found a more suitable partner.

He doesn’t even look like he’s into her in most photos.

He just looks like a party boy, hill billy type.

She probably thought she was in love because he made her laugh, or something stupid like that.

She definitely married down.

But the one thing that does strike me odd about her?

The way she smiles in photos.

WTF is that all about???

Also, I’m calling it. Due to the high profile buzz this case is immediately receiving, if she wasn’t set up for the kidnapping by her husband, she’s never going to be found, dead or alive.

by Anonymousreply 74September 3, 2022 3:09 PM

Her house is in Central Gardens, which is the nicest part of Midtown Memphis (all things considered) and where she was kidnapped is several miles away. I guess if you were going jogging at 4:00 am, a busy road like Central Avenue would be the best option…but I just don’t see this being a random act. I talked to some friends in Central Gardens last night. Everyone is abuzz about it, and word was out already about him being a coke head and banging the nanny. She teaches at St. Mary’s, one of the most elite schools in Memphis.

For our Tasteful Friends, here is a house for sale around the corner from her house.

She probably was past the point where she could attract someone in her social set by the time she met Richie I'm guessing she had a coming out party, etc. and plenty of opportunities to hook up with someone "suitable". R112, well she WAS a soccer player at the U of Memphis…

by Anonymousreply 116September 3, 2022 4:24 PM

That smile is “behavioural” too. It’s not solely facial structure. She could learn to smile in a way that is appropriate but does not.

by Anonymousreply 117September 3, 2022 4:24 PM

She's a hard 34, though.

by Anonymousreply 118September 3, 2022 4:24 PM

Agree r115. 34 now and was married in 2014 too.

Even if she was unmarried at 34, most people I know that age are still dating around and only starting to settle down.

by Anonymousreply 119September 3, 2022 4:25 PM

R98, seems like he hasn’t always had them since they’ve been together. I’d be pissed if my husband transformed like he did.

She got married at like 26. Wtf are people taking about 😂 that she was ageing out.

by Anonymousreply 121September 3, 2022 4:27 PM

She was 27 when she married which would be old maid territory in a Southern society family and it's not like she was getting a PhD in astrophysics that would have taken her out of that world.

by Anonymousreply 122September 3, 2022 4:27 PM

Fags are misogynists. She deserves death because of that freaking, creepy smile of hers.

by Anonymousreply 126September 3, 2022 4:30 PM

R100, her teeth look like she’s also done hard drugs.

I don’t understand why she smiled like that. She looked absolutely nuts.

May she RIP. No one deserves something like this, no matter how nutty they appear in photos.

by Anonymousreply 127September 3, 2022 4:30 PM

Smiles don't have gender.

by Anonymousreply 128September 3, 2022 4:31 PM

I am not blaming her, but I wish women were more discerning when choosing a husband. She was an heiress for god's sake, she must have known men would be after her money. I also think of Brittany Murphy, if she had vetted her husband she would know he was a scumbag and would suck her dry. There is still so much pressure for women to marry a man, any man, even if they are wealthy themselves and don't need the financial support.

by Anonymousreply 129September 3, 2022 4:31 PM

If she was at the end of a long run, she may have been a little loopy and also aware that she wasn't looking her best, so she decided to do a comedy smile.

by Anonymousreply 130September 3, 2022 4:32 PM

No one is saying that r126 Are you new here? This place is famous for dark humour.

by Anonymousreply 131September 3, 2022 4:33 PM

I agree, R129.

So many creeps out there.

I’d rather remain single, than to marry some creep, just for the sake of getting married and having a family.

Not that I’m at the age to have a family, now, but you get my drift.

Do I get lonely sometimes? Yes. But at least no one is planning my kidnapping because he owes money to his dope dealers.

by Anonymousreply 132September 3, 2022 4:43 PM

What adult man goes by "Richie"? He looks like an incest baby. The 2 kids seem like aspies.

This was set up, no way it could be random. The reddit Citizen Websleuth Asshat Brigade is all over this one. Expect crazy, made up shit about this case to be flying everywhere. This poor woman is their new Gabby Petito.

by Anonymousreply 133September 3, 2022 4:44 PM

This is what happens when women are told to “smile more”.

by Anonymousreply 134September 3, 2022 4:47 PM

Imagine what absolute scum of the earth and pure filth that you must be, to kidnap a mom and her one year old child, as reported upon in the link @ R124?

by Anonymousreply 135September 3, 2022 4:49 PM

Too lazy to look up comparative stats but doesn't this seem like a lot of kidnappings?

Three children were abducted in Whitehaven on Sept. 2 and were later found three miles away. A mother and her one-year-old were abducted last weekend near Wolfchase and forced to withdraw money from an ATM before being released. And on Aug. 18, two children were kidnapped and later recovered by police in South Memphis.

There have been at least 100 incidents classified as kidnapping in Memphis this year, according to public safety data posted on the city's website.

by Anonymousreply 136September 3, 2022 4:50 PM

A lot of kidnappings or a very unmotivated serial killer.

by Anonymousreply 137September 3, 2022 4:52 PM

Most of those incidents are non-custodial parents not returning kids when their visitation is over.

by Anonymousreply 138September 3, 2022 4:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 141September 3, 2022 4:56 PM

As if straight men should be “discerning” over choosing a wife that might overpower and kill him.

by Anonymousreply 142September 3, 2022 4:58 PM

Everyone always assumes the husband first. Remember the woman who was murdered in her home while the husband (was he a pastor?) went for a jog? It turned out it was a burglary, but DL was convinced it was the husband and had a field day with that one.

by Anonymousreply 143September 3, 2022 5:01 PM

[quote]At the time of her abduction, she was wearing a pink running top and purple shorts.

She may have been a fashion victim.

by Anonymousreply 144September 3, 2022 5:04 PM

Anyone who remembers the 89s recalls the moral panic over "child abductions" which mostly are disgruntled parents in a custody fight or "missing children" who often were runaways or simply got lost.

She's a wealthy person in a bad marriage, the starting place for the investigation will be the husband. Unlike the Target incident, they didn't make her use the ATM. The subtle race baiting is a nice touch, but the husband is probably directly involved in some way.

by Anonymousreply 145September 3, 2022 5:04 PM

Should be 80s.

by Anonymousreply 146September 3, 2022 5:05 PM

by Anonymousreply 147September 3, 2022 5:16 PM

How weird to be wealthy and choose to live in Memphis. Reminds me that many wealthy people are really sheltered.

by Anonymousreply 148September 3, 2022 5:16 PM

R148, not if she grew up there.

Being wealthy in the Midwest and the south is very different than being wealthy in LA or NYC.

by Anonymousreply 149September 3, 2022 5:23 PM

Lots of cities have retained wealthy enclaves and/or have inner suburbs that have more troubled neighbors: San Antonio, Columbus, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and St Louis come to mind. Memphis in general seems pretty unattractive to me.

by Anonymousreply 150September 3, 2022 5:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 151September 3, 2022 5:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 152September 3, 2022 5:37 PM

My wife and I live over in Uptown Memphis.

Memphis has an unmerciful crime rate on all fronts and there is also a great deal of poverty here.

My wife is not allowed to walk to work over at Saint Jude's because it's too dangerous even though it's really close to where we live. I put my foot down on that.

I'm really tall and have studied Kung Fu for ages and would not jog anywhere in Memphis at 4 in the morning. Central Gardens is beautiful but the poor dear should have bought a treadmill.

That Episcopalian Church made mention of upthread is very liberal. They do a very great deal for the homeless and those in need with no questions asked. I'm not of that religion but I'm just saying.

This is a Keith Morrison type situation here. But, crimes are here 24/7. I dunno. This is fishy and is being heavily put out there on the news because of the family involved.

by Anonymousreply 153September 3, 2022 5:39 PM

It’s a little surprising to me that the police have not issued n update or press conference. Especially since the fbi reportedly was called in almost right away ( likely due to the wealthy family). All the news reports that come up in my google search are close to 24 hours old. Also, the first thing family and friend like to do are those organized search parties. None of that seem to have developed either.

Are there any local Tennessee folks here that can talk about recent local reports?

by Anonymousreply 166September 3, 2022 7:35 PM

R165, spot on regarding your insights.

Bottom line?

The cops know who did, but the person who did it ain’t talking and right now, they’re attempting to negotiate with the person who is responsible, but the person isn’t budging.

So they’re now at a stage of attempting to recover any evidence in order to recover a body.

Hate to be so grim, but the odds are high that this won’t end well.

He hasn't made an on camera appeal because either he or his lawyers know these sorts of things invite scrutiny. And he already has a reputation so he doesn't want the added attention. It didn't work out well for Chris Watts or Scott Peterson.

However, I would expect a relative or family spokesperson to address the public. That doesn't appear to have happened. It makes me think there are already persons of interest being questioned or LE are fairly certain who the perpetrators are.

I’ve been on the track of assuming the husband did it too. But, with a city that has that kind of problem with abductions and her unfortunately being alone at that time of night, I think the odds may go up ever so slightly that this might be a stranger abduction.

by Anonymousreply 204September 3, 2022 9:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 207September 3, 2022 10:01 PM

My mom used to get out super early like that (5:00 a.m.) to do exercise walking. It was a safer neighborhood, though. When she told me she was listening to music (earphones), I asked her to stop doing that. Not sure if she continued on with her earphones.

Early morning (before work, before kids wake up) is the best time to get some exercise in.

by Anonymousreply 208September 3, 2022 10:03 PM

But maybe just use a treadmill at that hour when you live in a dangerous city.

by Anonymousreply 209September 3, 2022 10:05 PM

by Anonymousreply 213September 3, 2022 10:12 PM

His mannerisms were quite different from the rest of the family. I know odds are it has to do with him, But that city sounds like a disaster for crime and abduction.

I don’t know why people are saying a criminal wouldn’t strike if he had the opportunity like that because they wouldn’t be out at that hour. Most stranger related assaults where I come from are precisely in those wee hours when someone is alone and vulnerable and others aren’t around. At that hour most people aren’t up to any good.

The resolution is higher when you click through to Twitter. If you watch the video in fullscreen there, you can see the husband squeeze his eyes shut to force out a tear that's lingering in his left eye. I realize people react in different ways, but it looked very performative, as if a tear that didn't roll down his cheek on camera was a wasted tear.

Also, her father looks cachectic; particularly when compared to the wedding photos.

by Anonymousreply 220September 3, 2022 10:36 PM

Husband, nanny, money.

Why is someone from a bad neighborhood picking up a white woman jogger to rape (or SEX TRAFFIC!) when there are easier targets and you don’t have to risk going to a nice neighborhood where people care?

Also, there had to have been two people doing the abduction.

You’re trying to write the only possible narrative in your mind but it’s not necessarily correct. And by the way, slight blonde white women are prime targets for trafficking. I’m not saying that’s the situation here but you would suck as an investigator because you try to close on details you have no knowledge of.

by Anonymousreply 239September 3, 2022 11:53 PM

Charles Adelson, the Florida dentist who hired hitmen to kill his sister's ex-husband, is finally charged. (He was trying to help his sister with her child custody case vs. ex-husband.) Happened in 2014. Seems like everybody in the scheme was hauled into court except him, the dentist.

The friends said she was "natural-looking" or something like that.

by Anonymousreply 251September 4, 2022 12:28 AM

Where is she?

by Anonymousreply 252September 4, 2022 12:32 AM

Husband looks like hes completely out of it. Could be drugs, could be guilt, could be he just isnt coping well. Hes ugly as sin,but Im thinking hes got a huge cock .It has to be that, cause it sure wasnt his face. She doesnt smile in pics, she bares her teeth like an pissed of animal.

You can still post links to the Daily Mail. Just put your comment in a different post.

by Anonymousreply 255September 4, 2022 12:38 AM

We’re there witnesses to the abduction or was it caught on surveillance?

by Anonymousreply 256September 4, 2022 12:39 AM

Caught on surveillance. If there were also witnesses, the cops have not told the public.

by Anonymousreply 257September 4, 2022 12:42 AM

The husband reminds me of Kevhead from tumblr, who indeed does have a big ol' dong.

by Anonymousreply 258September 4, 2022 12:43 AM

No one breaks stories or gets better pics than the daily mail. But apparently datalounge moderators think datalounge is too good for the daily mail. Even though they allow porn to be posted 😂

by Anonymousreply 259September 4, 2022 12:44 AM

R194 Jeezus. That picture of her behind them is frightening. Is that the best they could find?

She lives in crime riddled Memphis, did she think she was the only one out at 4:30 a. m.?

by Anonymousreply 271September 4, 2022 1:12 AM

Aha! Caught a frau!

Eliza Fletcher is in her mid-30s, already had children and is a muscled stringy runner type. Nobody wants that for a sex slave. There are dumb teenagers who go willingly - in bad neighborhoods, where people are afraid to call police. Why go to all the trouble of abducting an affluent woman forcibly, just to turn her out?

Someone abducted her because they were paid to get her and kill her. Or they wanted to rape and kill her for fun. She’s not being held in a motel for sex commerce. That makes zero sense.

by Anonymousreply 272September 4, 2022 1:15 AM

R245, if you’re r65, I don’t think you’re wrong or crazy. We shall see. But this one stinks; I think it’s the husband, but it could be a Papini. Most likely the husband hired some dumb crooks.

[quote] her rubbing clothes

Are those the clothes one would wear while touching oneself... down there?

by Anonymousreply 283September 4, 2022 1:50 AM

So two dumb fuckers who had zero idea who she was abducted, raped and killed her for kicks?

Sad, but it happens.

Psychopaths aren’t usually as smart as YouTube makes them out to be.

Is the death penalty available in TN?

I’m against it, except when I’m FURIOUS that shit like this still happens in a country that has enough money and resources, to be beyond this bullshit.

It’s horrifying that so many men see women as disposable objects, and it’s one of the main reasons I barely listen to rap music anymore, as it usually promotes women as nothing but disposable hoes.

by Anonymousreply 284September 4, 2022 1:52 AM

R268 linked to a Twitter account that claims clothes were found at a McDonalds dumpster, but so far no one else has reported that.

Ha! I know. They’re awful, but they’re really good at stories like this!

by Anonymousreply 290September 4, 2022 2:11 AM

That Twitter feed says they are having maintenance open all empty apartments at the complex. So they are going door to door obviously.

by Anonymousreply 291September 4, 2022 2:13 AM

I’m surprised there is no tv station camera feed around any of this. What’s up with that Memphis??

by Anonymousreply 292September 4, 2022 2:14 AM

I can’t figure out why they were searching Overton Park last night. It’s not anywhere around any of these other places of interest. Maybe a bad tip.

by Anonymousreply 293September 4, 2022 2:18 AM

My bet is now that it is not the husband paying for this killing. If her clothes have been found but not her this sounds like a sex assault situation. Unless it’s staged to look like that but the husband doesn’t look smart enough and likely he’d just have her shot and the shooter take off fast if he wants to get rid of her.

by Anonymousreply 294September 4, 2022 2:18 AM

R239: No one traffics middle aged women. White slavery mostly exists in imaginations. Most abductions involve people known to the victim.

Richie looks twitchy in that video--more likely withdrawal than anxiety.

by Anonymousreply 295September 4, 2022 2:21 AM

Why are people obsessing on trafficking example comments. It was meant to point out that one has to be open to multiple Avenues of investigation. It wasn’t a hardline opinion about this case but an example thrown out. Jesus, you frauen really get ocd about things.

by Anonymousreply 296September 4, 2022 2:24 AM

Great.

Black dudes fuck over their race, yet again.

by Anonymousreply 306September 4, 2022 2:36 AM

Why are they going door to door? Did two men force their way into someone’s apartment and force the occupants to hide the white lady?

by Anonymousreply 307September 4, 2022 2:37 AM

R307- Looking for her body in an empty apartment, I would guess.

by Anonymousreply 308September 4, 2022 2:40 AM

If it was a random abduction they probably dumped her in the woods or something. Why would they dump her at their apartment complex?!

by Anonymousreply 309September 4, 2022 2:48 AM

R309- Idk unless she was alive and when the police got too close they killed her and quickly hid her body in a temporary place. She could still be alive and is being kept in an empty apt or an accomplice may be hiding out in one. 🤷‍♀️. Just speculation.

by Anonymousreply 310September 4, 2022 2:53 AM

If they are searching the empty apartments then that would lean me away from the shady husband.

If he is not responsible, he just hit the mega lottery. He went from being a shop mechanic to to the big times.

by Anonymousreply 311September 4, 2022 2:55 AM

Those rental apps will unlock apartments to be viewed or it could have been a maintenance man who has keys to the open apartments.

[quote]If he is not responsible, he just hit the mega lottery. He went from being a shop mechanic to to the big times.

I will be shocked if this turns out to be the case. But the random apartment thing is making me think it could be.

by Anonymousreply 315September 4, 2022 2:59 AM

There will be a trust for the kids and it will be administered by one of her family members.

by Anonymousreply 316September 4, 2022 3:00 AM

Some of you like r315 are basically asking why nut jobs would act like nut jobs.

by Anonymousreply 317September 4, 2022 3:00 AM

Well he’s getting some money one way or another unless he’s guilty.

Maybe he seems so shifty because he is happy to be in his situation.

We will either know soon or we will never know. That seems to be the way it goes.

by Anonymousreply 318September 4, 2022 3:00 AM

R312 it’s a major police investigation and you are focused on whether it was a maintenance man or if the police are getting in because the apartments might be open for viewing. 🙄🫠

by Anonymousreply 319September 4, 2022 3:02 AM

Damn. I hope she's alive and just smoking crack somewhere. Her kids are so cute. If someone dumped her clothes in a McDonald's dumpster, they're on camera. They don't want to pay for someone putting their mattress in their dumpster

by Anonymousreply 320September 4, 2022 3:02 AM

Crime of (4am) opportunity. Seems to have made tons of mistakes.

by Anonymousreply 321September 4, 2022 3:04 AM

The family lawyer is also the husband’s lawyer. He hasn’t lawyered up on his own. Other than being a recovering alcoholic /addict who would probably get some money in the divorce anyway via prenup, I don’t think there’s a ton of stuff linking him that has been shared so far.

by Anonymousreply 322September 4, 2022 3:06 AM

Hell, I don't like to go out at 4:00 PM now. Too much random violence, too many mentally unstable people out there. Jogging alone at 4:00 AM really does sound like something someone on meth would do. Just saying.

by Anonymousreply 323September 4, 2022 3:09 AM

Seems like a lot of work to get some old lanky lean flat chested dried up gamey gash that’s already had multiple children and scant backside. She has the figure of mr salty.

(Yes I’m one of the people mentioned upthread who despises runners)

But I hope they find her alive. maybe tied up in a basement or hiding out in the woods.

by Anonymousreply 324September 4, 2022 3:12 AM

Whoever did this was an idiot. Just sloppy as hell.

by Anonymousreply 325September 4, 2022 3:13 AM

by Anonymousreply 327September 4, 2022 3:15 AM

Hers was a really sad story, R327. She had just moved there to get some stability because she was a military brat or something. She was planning on going to college, if I remember correctly, and was on her way to work when she was abducted at 5am. There are all sorts of deviants out there at all times. So the husband might be shady in this case, but I’m not convinced this wasn’t random.

by Anonymousreply 328September 4, 2022 3:23 AM

If the abduction was caught in camera, why haven’t they released a pic of the perp?

by Anonymousreply 329September 4, 2022 3:55 AM

Cleotha was kidnapping people at gunpoint when he was sixteen.

[quote]Sixteen months after he was kidnapped at gunpoint and thrown into the trunk of his car, attorney Kemper Durand watched with some regret last week as two juveniles involved in the case were given prison sentences.

[quote]Durand was walking to his car around 2 a.m. on May 25, 2000, after attending a par ty on Beale Street when a lone gunman walked up behind him, took his wallet, and forced him into the trunk. The abductor, Cleotha Abston, drove around and picked up friends then, after about two hours, escorted Durand into a Mapco station to withdraw money from an ATM. A uniformed Memphis Housing Authority officer entered, Durand yelled that he had been kidnapped, and the kidnappers ran away.

[quote]On Monday, Abston pled guilty just before he was scheduled to go to trial and was sentenced to 20 years in prison without parole. He had earlier turned down an offer of 15 years on the same charge but, according to Durand, told the court Òhe did not want to sign his name giving himself the time.Ó Abston has a long juvenile record of theft and aggravated assault.

by Anonymousreply 332September 4, 2022 9:16 AM

Is this a drug deal gone bad or something?

by Anonymousreply 333September 4, 2022 9:31 AM

This is how "especially aggravated" is defined...

When a kidnapping is committed in one of the following circumstances, it becomes especially aggravated kidnapping:

Accomplished with a deadly weapon or something that a victim would reasonably believe is a deadly weapon;

Where the victim is under the age of 13;

Committed to hold the victim for a ransom or reward;

Committed to use the victim as a shield or hostage; or

Where the victim suffers serious bodily injury.

Especially aggravated kidnapping is a Class A felony punishable by 15 to 60 years in prison and a maximum fine of $50,000.

by Anonymousreply 341September 4, 2022 11:27 AM

And so many of you were blaming the husband and coming up with bullshit about the nanny.

by Anonymousreply 342September 4, 2022 12:06 PM

R342 Hubby and nanny aren't in the clear yet.

by Anonymousreply 343September 4, 2022 12:07 PM

Oh and what was the other thing? Right, she’s a sherry papini. And a criminal wouldn’t have the energy to be bothered with kidnapping someone so early in the morning.

by Anonymousreply 344September 4, 2022 12:08 PM

Right r343. Keep hanging on.

by Anonymousreply 345September 4, 2022 12:09 PM

I'll be happy for his kids if the husband didn't arrange it (or didn't owe the perpetrators money). People suspect the spouse because that's usually who is involved, especially when factors like money are in play, never mind the rumors about drugs, infidelity and troubled pasts. That doesn't mean crimes of opportunity and random acts of violence don't also exist. All of those things are far more common than hoaxes.

by Anonymousreply 346September 4, 2022 12:24 PM

Lololol, R198; I was just about to post if Maj. Caroline Mason is on the case it's about to blow up.

She's a seriously good murder detective/closer.

by Anonymousreply 347September 4, 2022 12:38 PM

Which is what I was saying all along. I know that stats and chances are it could be the husband but Memphis is a very dangerous city with a hundred kidnappings a year. If some of the keystone cops on this thread were in the Memphis police force the husband and nanny would be in jail right now while this convicted felon with a history of abductions makes it across 10 state lines.

by Anonymousreply 348September 4, 2022 12:39 PM

That story about the poor Nevada teenager is so horrible. How come that wasn’t national news? And she was just going to work while this fool was out jogging in a bra and short shorts at 4am.

by Anonymousreply 349September 4, 2022 12:45 PM

Now that a black guy has been arrested they will drop reporting this case like a hot potato

by Anonymousreply 350September 4, 2022 12:47 PM

I do wonder if she out at 4 AM trying to score drugs for her husband? R348- Everyone, including police , suspect the husband first because they are usually involved. The husband/bf/so are the number one suspects until and unless they can be cleared. That is SOP in these cases.

by Anonymousreply 351September 4, 2022 12:48 PM

I wonder if the perp is a dealer and kidnapped the wife to send the husband a message about his debts.

by Anonymousreply 352September 4, 2022 12:50 PM

Give it up r351. Everyone knows the stats. Read the thread. We know that fucking stats. You are starting to sound desperate in your need to blame the victim or the husband.

by Anonymousreply 353September 4, 2022 12:55 PM

R352: The husband isn't entirely in the clear at all. He could have hired his drug dealer to get rid of her, anything is possible.

by Anonymousreply 354September 4, 2022 12:55 PM

Let’s watch and see r354.

by Anonymousreply 355September 4, 2022 12:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 356September 4, 2022 1:00 PM

There are 3 other active missing person cases in Memphis right now. A little boy, a teenage girl, and another adult woman. But they are all black, so no international news stories for them.

by Anonymousreply 357September 4, 2022 1:00 PM

It would be a stupid theory r354 since he could have just shot her and taken off vs a messing abduction inna car with no trunk and and throwing clothes around the city. But for those hanging onto hope it was the big bad husband because he was maybe fucking the nanny, let’s wait and see

by Anonymousreply 358September 4, 2022 1:00 PM

There is nothing in my posts that suggest I am a woman hater. R353. You’ve pulled that out of nowhere.. in fact you are the woman hater since you are victim blaming. Glad you blocked me though. Hopefully that means I won’t have to read your tantrums and stupidity any longer.

by Anonymousreply 359September 4, 2022 1:04 PM

It will be very interesting to know if he just grabbed her off the street because of opportunity or if he knew who she was and that her family is rich.

by Anonymousreply 360September 4, 2022 1:05 PM

R357- They aren't from a rich family so they do not count. Only the rich matter in this world.

by Anonymousreply 361September 4, 2022 1:07 PM

Especially if those rich have children. Then they are elevated above the girl mentioned upthread who went missing at Walmart.

by Anonymousreply 362September 4, 2022 1:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 363September 4, 2022 2:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 364September 4, 2022 2:11 PM

Exactly r363, And R351 is the same fucktard as r356.

by Anonymousreply 365September 4, 2022 2:21 PM

How could one person get her in the car, and drive away, while keeping her from jumping out of the vehicle, unless he pistol whipped her into unconsciousness? This guy's MO is a trip to the nearest ATM. So much of this doesn't make sense.

by Anonymousreply 366September 4, 2022 3:04 PM

You guys are right. The husband has major BDF.

by Anonymousreply 367September 4, 2022 3:05 PM

R366, A man can almost always overpower a woman with just force. He could’ve punched her, used chloroform, who knows. His MO with a male victim is the ATM, he wasn’t after money with this woman. Cars also have those locks on the driver’s side that lock the locks of the doors. Sounds like the brother is a meth dealer, would think he was involved, but they’re saying no right now.

by Anonymousreply 368September 4, 2022 3:16 PM

Chloroform? He could have knocked her out with one punch. But I’m not disagreeing. I think he has an accomplice; someone who was driving. And I haven’t cleared the husband, although it’s looking less likely. Husband could have hired them, Pastor Davey-style.

by Anonymousreply 369September 4, 2022 3:20 PM

Of the husband owes the other one, the drug cook, money.

by Anonymousreply 370September 4, 2022 3:22 PM

And whatever the case, my sympathy lies with Liza, who didn’t deserve whatever happened to her. I love the hoax stories, but this doesn’t seem like one. We haven’t heard about previous disappearances or other stunts she’s pulled for attention, and these people usually do. If anything, it seems the husband is off the rails.

by Anonymousreply 371September 4, 2022 3:23 PM

Women and especially young white women should never jog alone at 4:30am or after dark. An abductor knows they can't fight for shit. Easy prey. Now some of these Jenny from the block types will cut a bitch.

by Anonymousreply 372September 4, 2022 3:25 PM

Well, in the summertime especially, no one thinks of 4:30am as "after dark," but rather "before sunrise."

by Anonymousreply 373September 4, 2022 3:26 PM

It’s never really safe for women at any time. This woman and another right after in MA were jogging during the day.

Sidenore: DL was sure she was an escort because of her vacation pictures and the murder was tied to that. Obviously the DL was off the mark as usual.

Cleotha? What a stupid fucking name.

by Anonymousreply 376September 4, 2022 3:57 PM

Bullshit, R351.

As well as to you other mouth breathers on here blaming her for her own abduction, and most probably, her own demise.

You all know why this shit happened. Because there are PLENTY of fucked up, straight white and black men, as well as men from ALL races, who are too fucked up to see women as valuable human beings, and instead, see them as nothing but stupid bitches who deserve what they get, when harm befalls them.

You fucked up trolls come on to a gay website, to wage war against women. You’re sick, and need to grow the fuck up.

And what’s even worse, is that many of you here who do this, are straight incels, who blame women because you made decisions to live your lives behind keyboards and computer screens, eating shitty food, and became fat fucks who smell like sewage, when in fact, you’re too lazy and socially inept, to get the fuck up, groom yourselves and hit the mother fucking gym, or do something that takes MAJOR discipline like this poor lady was doing, by training for a marathon, which you cunts will NEVER do, unless one day you get struck over the head by lightning or suffer some brain injury, which drastically changes your personalities.

She didn’t deserve this. She wasn’t looking for this. She, like MANY women who get up super early to commute to work, or exercise and commute to work later, was attempting to live a normal, healthy life, and fulfill her goals and dreams.

The villain here is the man, who without an ounce of forethought or moral/ethical character, decided to jump out of his car in a split second, and wreck the life a woman who had ambitions, while wrecking the lives of her kids and family, as well.

Stop blaming women who are good and decent people, for becoming victims to the lowest of low men out there.

Grow the fuck up.

Grow some empathy, like you grew your assured gut, after years of eating nothing but pure shit.

Yep. I’m mad. I’m sick of men coming on here and all over the internet, constantly attempting to shit on women just because they can’t fuck one, or think that they’re somehow stealing dick from gay men who aren’t mentally healthy enough, to understand that straight men can’t help wanting to be sexually active with women, which is why they’re straight!

Fuck any of you here who cannot set aside your bullshit, and have some compassion for a lady you’ve never met, yet most assuredly went through fucking hell, for the last few hours of her life.

by Anonymousreply 377September 4, 2022 4:01 PM

R377 It's literal violence!

by Anonymousreply 378September 4, 2022 4:02 PM

That poor, stupid woman. Im sure her last hours were terrifying. May she rest in peace, and may they put these stains on humanity away for the rest of their hopefully short lives. Its funny but ive been saying for years that the PTB want us to be afraid of brown people 1000s of miles away yet Im way more afraid of the homegrown sociopaths we seem to bred. Until black people own the fact that a small segment of their population are responsible for a disproportionate amount of violent crimes they will never reach the place they want to be. That hasnt got shit to do with racism and everything to do with a lack of humanity.Something is very wrong with young black men.Not all of them,of course but way too many .

by Anonymousreply 379September 4, 2022 4:05 PM

It wasn't until my dog was sick and had to pee constantly, and I was regularly outside with her at 4 am, that I realized how many of my neighbors run and cycle at odd hours. Especially in the summer, it's the best way to beat the heat.

by Anonymousreply 380September 4, 2022 4:09 PM

The POS was already trying to clean the car at 7:50am, and the cops found blood in the car.

by Anonymousreply 381September 4, 2022 4:10 PM

R377- Please spare us your false moralizing. This is probably a murder case now and this is what people do, they SPECULATE on what happened until they know for sure. If it offends you then just skip this thread. Their drug use has been posted here repeatedly. If one chooses to indulge in illegal drug use there are well known possible consequences and dangers from it , just as a woman jogging at 4:30 AM is quite aware of the danger of her decision to do so.

by Anonymousreply 382September 4, 2022 4:17 PM

Memphis is a dangerous shithole

by Anonymousreply 383September 4, 2022 4:19 PM

R377 why are you on DL if you hate men so much? Jesus Christ. I can comment on the stupidity and entitlement of a blonde white woman jogging around in a bra and tiny shorts at 4:30AM in Memphis without you hysterically lecturing me about how women have the right to do whatever they want and how DARE anyone say otherwise. In a perfect world sure. In reality - not the case. Everyone (not just women) take precautions. And if they don’t - they put themselves at risk. It’s horrible but it’s true.

RIP if she’s dead. Very sad.

by Anonymousreply 384September 4, 2022 4:25 PM

R383- It is that way everywhere now, imo. It is a very dangerous world with the desperate, the mentally ill , and the psychopaths who prey upon us all.

by Anonymousreply 385September 4, 2022 4:25 PM

You are incredibly stupid R372 and racist, I know some white chicks who are built, strong, and have karate belts. So shut the fuck up.

by Anonymousreply 386September 4, 2022 4:33 PM

R384: for a blonde white woman to be jogging in a “bra and tiny shorts”, also known as workout gear, at 4:30 am is not “entitlement”. I don’t think you understand what that word means.

Also, you misogynists need to make up your mind, either women “hate” men by having to think of them as potential rapists/murderers and live their life accordingly, or they don’t, and if they get hurt/killed in their fault because they MUST know that men will murder them if they jog at 4:30 am.

by Anonymousreply 387September 4, 2022 4:33 PM

About two years ago I received information from a broker about a delightful home half an hour south of Memphis. It has been too long to recall details but the home was an architectural delight, fairly new construction, and with about 20 acres of mostly flat land and forest. The only issue was proximity to Memphis.

by Anonymousreply 388September 4, 2022 4:36 PM

R387- Yes it is her fault that she placed herself in such a dangerous and vulnerable position and I say that as a woman. Whoever kidnapped her and possibly killed her is ultimately to blame, but let's not pretend that jogging at 4:00 AM alone wasn't a very reckless decision on her part. Are we not allowed to hold people responsible for their decisions now?

by Anonymousreply 389September 4, 2022 4:48 PM

Financial question:

If Eliza is no longer alive, and it’s true that Eliza’s grandmother bequeathed Eliza money through a will that is in probate, will the inheritance eventually go to Eliza’s husband?

Does my question make sense? If Eliza had not yet received any inheritance and she died before it was out of probate does someone else inherit the money or would it go to her husband/children since she was alive at the time of the Grandmother’s death.

by Anonymousreply 390September 4, 2022 5:03 PM

R390- I have no idea , tbh. Wouldn't the money go into a trust for her children?

by Anonymousreply 391September 4, 2022 5:05 PM

Families with generational wealth often structure things to keep money within the family. Trusts are usually in place so if the heir or heiress dies, their wealth is kept from the spouse and preserved for their offspring.

by Anonymousreply 392September 4, 2022 5:11 PM

[quote] Are we not allowed to hold people responsible for their decisions now?

It's a question of how much responsibility we attribute to the victim or the criminal. Usually if the victim is female she gets more shit for any error she makes. If a man walks down the street wearing a Rolex and gets mugged, the blame quickly goes to the mugger. Every guy should be able to wear a Rolex on the street, that's why you buy a Rolex!

This woman was taking a risk jogging in the dark in skimpy clothes. But woman get raped and killed in broad daylight sitting in a car. Being a woman going anywhere is riskier than being a man. I have a female friend who disguises herself when she goes jogging--hair stuffed in a cap, loose clothing, no earbuds, always looking around as she runs. The SUV that Eliza was pulled into had passed her and then stopped. That's when you turn around and run the other way. This doesn't mean she deserves the shit she's getting in some of these posts.

by Anonymousreply 393September 4, 2022 5:14 PM

R393- I agree with you. She did put herself in a very vulnerable position but she also certainly did not deserve what happened to her. Both things can be true.

by Anonymousreply 394September 4, 2022 5:20 PM

r376, It sounds like the name of someone's grandmother.

r386 - That's cute for them. They'd still get their ass handed to them by the average male. Hell, even professional female MMA fighters have had their asses handed to them by male fighters. This is real life, not some Hollywood movie where a waif like Angelina Jolie can beat the shit out of a man built like Jason Statham.

r387 - These days, exercise gear for women is nothing more than glorified skin-tight underwear that shows every nook and cranny of their body. If you want to wear that, fine, but don't wear it and complain that one of the many toxic as hell straight men roaming this country aren't going to misinterpret that as you looking for sexualized attention from them. We live in reality, not in a utopia. Just like you wouldn't go to a rough area deck out in jewels like an ancient Maharaja if you don't want to be robbed, don't flounce around in rough neighborhoods in revealing clothing as a woman if you don't want to receive negative sexual attention. It sucks for females, but it's the truth.

by Anonymousreply 395September 4, 2022 6:06 PM

Memphis is a ghetto shithole full of feral blacks who behave as if they're still in the jungle. If you go out alone at night in Memphis you're taking your life in your own hands. Anyplace that has a population of feral, animalistic blacks means you either avoid it entirely or you take extreme precautions so you don't end up as their prey.

by Anonymousreply 396September 4, 2022 6:23 PM

389: your logic is like gay panic defense. The gay man “flirting” or “coming on” to a known straight man, should have known it was “dangerous” to pursue a straight man, Or is it wrong to hold gay men “accountable”.

Ultimately, our first reaction to this sad story shouldn’t be, “she shouldn’t have been out jogging at 4:30 am”. Men are a threat to public safety and civilization, how about we deal with that.

by Anonymousreply 397September 4, 2022 6:28 PM

R397: If one walks through a jungle at night alone one shouldn't be surprised to come upon a wild animal.

by Anonymousreply 398September 4, 2022 6:38 PM

I think straight men should have a curfew, not allowed unsupervised after 11 pm. Watch the crime rates drop,

by Anonymousreply 399September 4, 2022 6:45 PM

R390 That Orgill family is easily worth a billion dollars. I'm sure that it's covered.

I tell y'all what, though. Memphis truly has a really high crime rate. Down here one has to be extra super careful and just balance that nicely so as to not be a Karen or whatever. My wife and I truly try to stay balanced and are congenial towards most anyone we meet but being a pedestrian in Memphis as well as other such things is dangerous.

Memphis is kinda like the larger cities of Brazil. Walk or drive a wee bit past a nice neighborhood and then you hit somewhere quite poverty stricken and sometimes really dangerous as well. I grew up over in Barranquilla, Colombia in the 1980's so I know what I'm talking about with super high crime rates and all.

This might just have sadly wound up being a random crime. I dunno. Because of the wealth involved there could be a ransom or something. I dunno. Lotta money with this, the only other family down here with that wealth would easily be Fred Smith's family because of FedEx. They brought out all the stops quick for this lady and I get it but only to a degree deep down.

by Anonymousreply 417September 4, 2022 7:45 PM

by Anonymousreply 418September 4, 2022 7:47 PM

R403, likely not much. You have billionaires like the CEO of Netflix and his wife who donate millions for jail reform to put these people back on the streets. This guy who killed an Asian woman in NYC last year had already been convicted of killing his own mother a few years before! We need more jails, not less.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 419September 4, 2022 7:49 PM

That NY Post article is devastating.

I took him for minutes to subdue her while in the back of the vehicle.

He probably beat her very badly, and chances are actually pretty high, that he beat and or strangled her to death, right then and there, in the back of the SUV.

What a horrible, senseless crime.

And he had done it before?

This monster needs to be euthanized for the good of society.

by Anonymousreply 420September 4, 2022 7:50 PM

I think she would have been abducted no matter what she had been wearing, as long as she was identifiably a woman with a small-ish frame.

Is there any connection between the husband and the drug-manufacturing brother of the alleged abductor? Time will tell.

by Anonymousreply 421September 4, 2022 7:52 PM

*It took him four minutes

by Anonymousreply 422September 4, 2022 7:53 PM

Still wearing the shoes with the victims blood all over it. I dont give these reptiles any credit for the ability to think.I think most are border line retarded and they have zero ability to ponder anything. They just act on impulse. by Anonymousreply 425September 4, 2022 7:59 PM

R388: An hour S of Memphis is the Mississippi Delta, which is like living in a bad Faulkner novel. Memphis would have been the least of your problems. Spend an afternoon in Greenwood. MS and you'll know what I mean. Oxford, MS is probably an hour from Memphis and would have been the draw. It's a pleasant college town surrounded by unpleasantness.

by Anonymousreply 426September 4, 2022 8:00 PM

I know that we cannot understand this, as we’re not psychopaths, but can you imagine?

You’re driving down a street, and suddenly, you see a woman jogging down the street, and something within you prompts you to stop the car, grab her and kill her.

I mean, what was he doing previously? Driving to work? Getting breakfast at McDonald’s? And then suddenly, BOOM’

“Oh look! I’m gonna grab this lady here and murder her”!

Full stop. Like there’s nothing more after this thought. Nothing like, “Nah. I better get to work”, or “It’s Labor Day weekend, I’m gonna chill and grill some steaks with my friends”.

The mind of a criminal is just something most of us will never be able to comprehend or understand.

by Anonymousreply 427September 4, 2022 8:01 PM

I’m just glad it wasn’t a white man murdering a black woman jogging at 4:30 am. We would never hear the end if it.

by Anonymousreply 428September 4, 2022 8:05 PM

[quote] Not clear how much of his sentence he served.

by Anonymousreply 436September 4, 2022 8:14 PM

by Anonymousreply 437September 4, 2022 8:14 PM

Black women are NOT dumb and crazy to run at 4 am

by Anonymousreply 438September 4, 2022 8:15 PM

Were there playing fields where she taught? Surely she had better options for a pre-work run.

by Anonymousreply 439September 4, 2022 8:16 PM

You are an absolute fucktard r434. I’d prefer to think you are trolling though since I don’t want to believe anyone is as stupid as you.

by Anonymousreply 440September 4, 2022 8:17 PM

There’s a good chance he beat her to death because she had no money or and ATM card, and she refused to tell him where she lived, so that he could go there and demand money, jewelry, demand she or the husband drive him to the ATM or he’d kill the kids, etc.

If he was out looking for someone to rob, rather than just being a sexually motivated car, my theory is as good as any, and it makes sense that he held her in the car for 4 minutes, as he probably pummeled her to death, while she resisted doing what he wanted, which was to get her to drive him to her house, for a major robbery, which may have ended up even worse than this.

Fuck.

This poor woman.

by Anonymousreply 441September 4, 2022 8:18 PM

R434, I don’t think his intent was ever to rob her. She was jogging, what could possibly have had on her of value besides a phone? He most probably raped and then killed her.

by Anonymousreply 442September 4, 2022 8:18 PM

R437 is also a brain dead fucktard. Then I blocked and it was of course the same person.

by Anonymousreply 443September 4, 2022 8:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 444September 4, 2022 8:20 PM

R418 There would be enquiries about sizemeat verificata and fuckability before anyone gave a fuck, as well you know.

by Anonymousreply 445September 4, 2022 8:21 PM

Sexually motivated crime, R444.

Auto correct, and you know what I meant.

by Anonymousreply 446September 4, 2022 8:21 PM

Yeah, I think there are 2 scenarios:

1. Abductor intended to rape and kill. Abductor was thrill-seeking. If she was robbed, that was incidental to rape and murder.

2. Husband is connected and this was a Fargo-type kidnapping gone wrong.

by Anonymousreply 447September 4, 2022 8:22 PM

But his MO already includes robbery, so incidental doesn't work.

by Anonymousreply 448September 4, 2022 8:23 PM

Based on his history, it’s starting to come together.

He was most probably looking for someone to rob.

Long weekend, so he probably wanted money for dope, hookers, booze, whatever. He also appears to have lived in a week to week motel/apartment sort of situation, so perhaps rent was due, as well.

by Anonymousreply 456September 4, 2022 8:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 458September 4, 2022 8:51 PM

R456 If he wanted to keep it simple, he could have taken her phone and ring and left it at that. It’s possible he wanted her to tell him where she lived so he could go and rob the place.

R393 People nowadays are painfully naive and trusting of strangers. No common sense and an entitlement complex, especially in women. Maybe because I had parents who always thought of the worst-case scenarios, maybe because they grew up lower middle class in the old country, there was a lot of instruction growing up on avoiding reckless behaviors. Running at odd hours and in isolated places was a huge no. So was driving late at night. The rule of thumb was if it was after 1 am, stay put at where you are, and you can leave at dawn. 2 am was when bars closed, so a lot of drunks out at that time. Stuff like that.

As for your Rolex example, we’ve had friends get mugged and we all blamed them for their recklessness. You wear your good stuff in PRIVATE settings with similarly affluent people, not out in public so that you can be a target. Rolex at a country club wedding? Sure! Rolex at your Walmart run at 10 pm? No!

There’s no excuse for criminal behavior but you need to act in a way that puts the odds in your favor. The world isn’t made of sunshine and roses and peaches and cream. There are evil, violent and ruthless people out there who have zero regard for human life.

It is incredibly stupid to go for a run at 4 am, especially for a woman. If I was an heiress, I’d have a home gym and lap pool and not deal with the motherfucking riffraff.

[quote]There’s no excuse for criminal behavior but you need to act in a way that puts the odds in your favor.

No one is going to argue with that, it's a cliche.

What I'm saying is crimes against women often throw more attention on the victim than the criminal. Women who are raped, even violently, have their past sexual behavior and drinking habits brought up as evidence they were asking for it. No man who is mugged is grilled about how many times he walked down that street ALONE wearing those fine clothes.

by Anonymousreply 474September 4, 2022 9:37 PM

Karina Vetrano was jogging in broad daylight on a popular running trail. The crazy motherfucker who beat her to death was just a sick fucker who wanted to hurt someone. I am still shocked that he wasn’t shown to the border by the residents of that neighborhood. Poor Karina. We have driven by that nature preserve where she was killed, and it’s quite beautiful.

I will admit that I was wrong about who killed her, but I still maintain that there was a very odd dynamic in her family, and she was a sugar baby.

by Anonymousreply 475September 4, 2022 9:38 PM

R470 has it right. You can't make yourself bulletproof, but you don't make yourself an easy mark either. I scratched one of those ignorant "family silhouette" stickers off my niece's car last weekend. It showed a woman with a kid and a dog; an advertisement for rape, or worse, in her city. It's stupid to flout the laws of reality in this current crime-filled climate.

by Anonymousreply 476September 4, 2022 9:38 PM

Yeah, my whole family is into running, marathons and shit, and the only thing they carry is water, and maybe a $5 bill for a bagel/coffee on the way home. They have Apple watches for texts and MP3 players for music.

I think this guy just wanted to kill a woman. If he wanted money, he’d mug people coming out of the ATM lobby.

You are exactly right, R476. As a military veteran, I am entitled to have a FL red-white-and-blue "veteran" license plate on my vehicles at no extra charge, and I have one on my truck. But now there's a "woman veteran" tag as well. It's not particularly eye-catching and looks a lot like a similar "surfer picture" tag, but that's not why I won't get one. I never, ever want any random stranger to know I am a woman riding a motorcycle (or even driving a car) alone. Lots of (I assume straight) women wear pink motorcycle helmets and other gear and (heaven forbid) even ride pink or purple motorcycles. AFAIC, they're asking for trouble.

These days, you just never know.

As someone from the south, I've been warned about Memphis numerous times throughout my life. It's on par with Little Rock, Atlanta, and Birmingham as some of the most dangerous cities. Atlanta obvi has the most human trafficking so it's the most dangerous for young women and girls, but obviously Memphis is just a day's drive away. I'm not attempting to victim blame, I think women should be able to run naked at 2 in the morning completely drunk without something bad happening to them. But traffickers probably lurk around colleges because they know a bunch of young women like to jog there, and nobody will be awake at 4:30 to see them attack. I don't jog in public anyways because the pavement is hard on my knees and I'm worried I'll get run over.

by Anonymousreply 489September 4, 2022 10:55 PM

Looks like the husband's tears were real. I totally thought it was him. Now I realize there's no reason that being an heiress is the huge red flag it appeared to be. People with money can be random victims of crime.

by Anonymousreply 490September 4, 2022 11:20 PM

But this is starting to look extremely bad on ok fronts.

As a side note. I refuse to participate in the racist and also fake “part 2” farce of a thread. Let it sink to the dark depths of this place and rot there.

I trust that someone with some decency will begin a valid part 2 when the time is appropriate.

Fucking disgusting.

I guess you guys are probably right. He probably raped and killed her. I just didn’t want to believe she had to suffer through that as well.

I hope they can bring her home soon, so that her family can give her a proper burial.

This scumbag should have never been let out of prison. People like him don’t change or rehabilitate. They just get out and cause more mayhem and profound pain to others.

May this poor woman RIP. Sorry it was the worst of ways to leave this earth, too. 🙏🏽

by Anonymousreply 494September 4, 2022 11:41 PM

According to the daily mail he was a known perv and was soliciting women in his brothers lousing complex.

There is also a YouTube of mpd being asked about the reports that the campus police got about the womens x county running team being harassed by a lone man in a black suv in the last few weeks when they’d take their morning runs. MPD said unaware of that but interview was two days ago and it seems to have been buried in other news since then.

by Anonymousreply 519September 5, 2022 4:55 AM

The language used in the NY Post article about the violent nature of the abduction makes it seem like the guy might have been laying in wait for her on what is described as Eliza’s “usual jogging route”.

Is it possible he stalked her for a day or two after spotting her running one day?

Has anyone else heard language from any other news source that made it sound like he was already waiting for her to run by that day?

Here is how the Post phrased it:

“Fletcher, 34, was abducted on her regular 4 a.m. jog Friday after stalked by Cleotha Abston, who’d waited for her to run past him, the police affidavit alleged. She had run from her home in the fancy Central Gardens neighborhood to a nice area near the University of Memphis campus.”

(There’s also this about his criminal record: “Court records show Abston, 38, is a previously convicted kidnapper: he pleaded guilty to especially aggravated kidnapping and robbery in 2001. He was sentenced to 24 years and 11 years in prison respectively, although it is unclear how long he remained incarcerated and if he served his sentences concurrently.”)

by Anonymousreply 520September 5, 2022 5:06 AM

That feral animal never should've been let out of prison. Now a poor woman is dead because of this monster.

by Anonymousreply 521September 5, 2022 5:13 AM

Hi r520. I will have to dig for it but really need to get to bed. I skimmed Reddit about this abduction but didn’t stick around as some of it was crazier than a few of the people who were here before. Anyway one poster did have a YouTube video of a quick interview a cop did with reporters on Friday afternoon I think. Anyway, the reporter asked her for information about complaints that the university women’s cross country running team had about a line man in a black SUV who was harassing some of the women during their early morning practice runs. The cop deflected the question.

I saw the video and will try and find it to post here. If this is correct this guy was lurking around the campus already and maybe waiting for a line runner. The x county runners eventually spread out vs being in a huge pack. So true he was maybe waiting but not necessarily specifically stalking Liza. The complaints happened 2 weeks ago.

by Anonymousreply 522September 5, 2022 5:14 AM

The abduction itself sounds terrifying and I’m not sure what chance she had against this guy, especially after he started “running towards her aggressively” as they put it in the affidavit.

The struggle was so bad that he left his Champ slider shoes behind at the crime scene (shoes that cops later matched his DNA from, from their criminal database) and she lost her phone there—both items were found at the scene on the street by a biker less than an hour later who had no idea what happened and (I guess using info on her phone?) brought the items to Eliza’s house to give to her husband and family.

The husband must have realized instantly that something horrible likely happened to his wife when he received those two items.

From the Post article:

“Tennessee authorities obtained surveillance footage of the kidnapping, which allegedly showed Abston running “aggressively toward the victim, and then force the victim Eliza Fletcher into the passenger’s side of the vehicle,” the documents said.

“During the abduction, there appeared to be a struggle,” according to the affidavit, which cited “noticeable damage to the back-passenger taillight area” of the GMC Terrain.

Police said after Fletcher — who is still missing — was forced into the black SUV, “the vehicle then sat in the parking lot with the victim inside for approximately four minutes before it drove off.”

by Anonymousreply 523September 5, 2022 5:15 AM

A “lone” man in a black suv^

I should also point out that this description was given and the YouTube video was two days old on Sunday afternoon. So back that up to Friday mid day and there was less info out there about the attacker being alone and in a black suv. That is chilling.

by Anonymousreply 524September 5, 2022 5:16 AM

Thanks so much for that info, R522 ! That is very interesting (and very creepy and sad) if true.

More info about the guy seemingly waiting there for her (or some female jogger) to run by, the fact that this wasn’t even his car (it belonged to the cleaning company he worked for), and the Good Samaritan finding his shoes and her phone in the street at 6:45am (sorry I said it was found “less than an hour after the kidnapping”; I misread it. The items were actually found a little over 2hrs later by the biker...)

From the article:

“As the abduction was violent with, as captured on video, the suspect waiting for, then rushing towards the victim, then forcing the victim into the car, where she was confined and removed and continues to be missing, it is believed and supported by the facts and physical evidence that she suffered serious injury,” the affidavit said.”

According to the document, at 6:45 a.m., good Samaritan Miles Fortas was riding his bike when he found Fletcher’s cell phone and a pair of Champion slide sandals in the area where the mom of two was kidnapped. Fortas, unaware of what had occurred, gave the items to the Fletcher family, who then turned them over to authorities.

“DNA found on the shoes matched DNA for Cleotha Abston” that was already in a police database, according to the affidavit.

Authorities said they found footage of Abston wearing Champion slides the day before the alleged kidnapping. They also said his cell phone pinged near the site of the Friday kidnapping.”

The car apparently belongs to a local cleaning service that employed Abston.

Officers arrested him after finding him standing in the doorway of his home.”

Yeah r529 and also what I have pieces to father is that the found him at the door of the brothers place and he fled and got into the suv to take off but was stopped by the ATF vehicle they describe. That’s what the collision they were referring to in earlier reports was about - the ATF vehicle stopped the guy as he tried to rip out of there in the gmc all terrain.

Just wondering what the reference is about r503 and r535. The name of the lawyer who was abducted in 2000 was Kemper Durand and he passed away in 2013.

by Anonymousreply 539September 5, 2022 6:45 AM

[R516] wondered if it was true that Eliza's uncle, Mike Keeney, who delivered the family's statement, had worked with Cleotha Abston's earlier victim, Kemper Durand.

by Anonymousreply 540September 5, 2022 6:52 AM

Maybe, if they were there at the same time. Keeper was born in 1939 so he was -about 74 when he died and likely retired almost 10 years before that. It’s a major law firm in a small city and her family is socially connected obviously due to significant wealth. People know each other. In this case likely distantly. And it’s far to convoluted a relationship to suggest there is anything meaningful to the attack and likely death of this poor lady.

𝐀𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐊𝐢𝐝𝐧𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠

Police are hunting for the men who kidnapped a mom and her one-year-old from outside a target in a brazen midday robbery in Memphis - just days before a billionaire heiress was snatched off the same city's streets.

According to a Facebook post by the Memphis Police Department, the mom was putting groceries into her car outside the Target store when she and her child were hijacked on August 31.

She and her one-year-old were forced into a car after being threatened by the men, who were brandishing a handgun and demanding cash.

According to WREG-TV, one of the suspects sat in the front seat with the mom while the other sat in the back with her child.

They made the mom withdraw $800 from an ATM at Regions Bank half a mile down highway 64.

The terrifying ordeal was then over, as they released the mom and child afterwards, handing her back her card and dropping them off at the same Target where they were abducted. She then went inside to tell a staff member what had happened.

I have to question her judgement jogging at 4:30 am. She must have been a bit complacent. Also, was the area known for joggers and a good part of town? It does seem like a crime of opportunity.

by Anonymousreply 563September 5, 2022 2:43 PM

The NY post claimed it was a nice area.

by Anonymousreply 564September 5, 2022 2:46 PM

Can we talk about how butt ass ugly the kidnapper/killer is? Just like George Floyd, with the wide nose and huge lips, he looks like a racist caricature of a black man.

by Anonymousreply 565September 5, 2022 2:50 PM

I hope r565 is Digital Blackface.

by Anonymousreply 566September 5, 2022 2:52 PM

There was a homegurl who lived in Pookie's apartment complex that was posting pics of the search teams, police, etc on social media in exchange for donations sent to her cash app. She actually said she needed money for a new iPhone, oh, and said she was hongry and that she be craving crablegs.

by Anonymousreply 567September 5, 2022 2:55 PM

He sounds pretty intelligent.

"On the second Facebook page, which is in the name of Cleo Real, he wrote, “Don’t loose your Queen Bee, chasing a butterfly, and end up with a roach. Let us spray!😄”"

"Another post said: “Mfs always see my folks and be on some wats up with pookie wats up wit wild like they really f*** wit a n**** but don’t f*** wit no n**** I been gone all this time and have a FB page MF if u f*** with me u would’ve made sure I was straight fym get tf out of here with that bs been doin this shyt by my mfn self I’m screaming F*** u n**** and b****** keep the same energy wen they free me..”"

by Anonymousreply 568September 5, 2022 2:59 PM

This animal used the vehicle from the cleaning service he worked for? He was going into people's homes or offices to clean? WTF. Glad I clean my own house.

by Anonymousreply 569September 5, 2022 3:01 PM

Dey be on dey facebook in prison? Dey got dem sum sailfoams too?

by Anonymousreply 570September 5, 2022 3:07 PM

R565 is triggered.

by Anonymousreply 571September 5, 2022 3:08 PM

So where is she? If they apprehended the perp pretty quickly then she can't be that far away?

by Anonymousreply 572September 5, 2022 3:08 PM

I have no idea what R568 was quoting. Why would anyone aspire to speak like that?

by Anonymousreply 573September 5, 2022 3:15 PM

so do we think she's dead?

by Anonymousreply 574September 5, 2022 3:15 PM

Why am I triggered, R571? Did you call the posters who cracked on the victims’ Predatoresque smile triggered too?

The killer is ugly as fuck, and has that thuggish/criminal vibe that is best to be avoided altogether if you want to stay out of trouble or see the next day.

Negative stereotypes about black people exist because of the preponderance of hood rats wreaking havoc all over America, just like this scum. Kindly fuck off with the holier-than-thou wokism.

by Anonymousreply 575September 5, 2022 3:16 PM

[Quote] so do we think she's dead?

Yes. I think she died in the four minutes the SUV was parked, per the camera footage.

by Anonymousreply 576September 5, 2022 3:22 PM

He strangled her

by Anonymousreply 577September 5, 2022 3:23 PM

Seems odd that he would just kidnap her and kill her so quickly. Rape? Won't know until a body is found.

by Anonymousreply 578September 5, 2022 3:24 PM

She fought. Hard. He probably wasn't expecting that. The man wore flip flops... He clearly thought it would be a piece of cake.

by Anonymousreply 579September 5, 2022 3:25 PM

R578, if she put up a huge fight he probably just killed her. I’m not convinced he didn’t rape her, but if he didn’t then that’s why.

by Anonymousreply 580September 5, 2022 3:26 PM

[quote] I’m screaming F*** u n**** and b****** keep the same energy wen they free me..

This eloquence of this thrilling soliloquy gives us goosebumps. We demand he be invited as our next commencement speaker.

by Anonymousreply 581September 5, 2022 3:39 PM

Another white damsel in distress, whatever.

by Anonymousreply 582September 5, 2022 3:50 PM

Democrats never defunded a single dime from police. They are keeping the money but doing no police work.

by Anonymousreply 583September 5, 2022 4:14 PM

As we are getting close to 600 I have created an official part two so we can just move over with all updates we already have.

R579 do you have a link to back up that statement that she fought. So hard?

Link please?

Or did you witness this in person? You seem so sure.

by Anonymousreply 585September 5, 2022 4:55 PM

[quote] Insane that a convict got a job at all with a twenty year prison record.

What? So people aren't supposed to get jobs after prison?
