Woman abducted while on jog in Memphis, Tennessee, officials still say
by Anonymous | reply 229 | September 7, 2022 1:53 AM |
Oh, the MAGA is going to have a field day . Poor woman regardless. Stop hurting and murdering innocent people
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 4, 2022 9:04 PM |
Was ‘Walking in Memphis’ the last song she heard on her iPod?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 4, 2022 9:04 PM |
Here’s a decent summary of this case, so far.
I had some incorrect details about the perp in the previous thread.
This summary cleared things up.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 4, 2022 9:06 PM |
[quote]Fletcher, an elementary school teacher, is the granddaughter of a hardware company billionaire. She is married with two young boys.
FFS - I guess we know why she was targeted.
I think he go pissed, struck her hard, and ended up killing her.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 4, 2022 9:07 PM |
I do as well, R4.
The 4 minutes on the parking lot right next to where he grabbed her, is why I’m also going in that direction.
It doesn’t mean that he wasn’t also intending to rape her, but I suspect he hit her so hard, he killed her before it even got to that point.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 4, 2022 9:12 PM |
No shit - 3rd thread
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 4, 2022 9:14 PM |
Wait was she killed? That's so sad.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 4, 2022 9:16 PM |
..............so the question being asked is 'did the husband hire this convicted kidnapper to erase his wife'?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 4, 2022 9:21 PM |
Have the investigators cleared him completely?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 4, 2022 9:22 PM |
The original thread is not close to being filled yet. A known troll started this second one. Get prepared for the stupidest comments you have ever read in your life. It’s a shame this is happening to datalounge.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 4, 2022 9:26 PM |
Oh for the husband to get the money after she's dead.
That's the motive?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 4, 2022 9:29 PM |
He's going to get the death penalty. They will offer him Life in Prison if he tells them which dumpster he tossed her in after he raped her.
Those four minutes could have been him raping her while he strangled her.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 4, 2022 9:44 PM |
They’re now searching the creek right in front of the boat shop where the husband works.
It is, however, also relatively close to the arrested man’s apartment and downstream from the MacDonald’s, etc. (where stormwater would end up.)
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 4, 2022 10:34 PM |
R13- The posters on Reddit really suspect the husband in this , don't they? He may well be involved, idk.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 4, 2022 10:49 PM |
The suspect kept his GPS on during the entire crime. I suppose the police are backtracking his movements. What a dumbass.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 4, 2022 10:52 PM |
Husband hired this known criminal. Also, who goes jogging alone at 4:30a.m.?

The common denominator is gender, not race. Men of all colors kidnap, rape, and murder women and children. Women of all colors rarely commit these crimes. Why has this become a race discussion? We should be discussing male violence against women and girls.

LSA is convinced the husband hired Cleotha.

Cleotha was the sister of Mavis Staples in the Staple Singers. Maybe he was pissed he got that name?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 5, 2022 10:23 AM |
When I first saw the name I was thinking more in terms of one of the old ladies with the big hats who sit in the first few pews of the church

by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 5, 2022 5:32 PM |
From the previous thread:
[quote]The language used in the NY Post article about the violent nature of the abduction makes it seem like the guy might have been laying in wait for her on what is described as Eliza’s “usual jogging route”.
That's because it involves a white woman victim and black man criminal, so the NY Post (of course) saw its opportunity to do go all "Birth of A Nation."
And that's not a defense of the crime, but as someone who knows firsthand the NY media shits (both TV and print) just insinuate or outright lie, rather than actually wait for facts, stop buying into the media's manufactured narrative to foment hate.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 5, 2022 6:47 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 5, 2022 7:26 PM |
R54 What are you babbling about?
“As the abduction was violent with, as captured on video, the suspect waiting for, then rushing towards the victim, then forcing the victim into the car, where she was confined and removed and continues to be missing, it is believed and supported by the facts and physical evidence that she suffered serious injury,” the affidavit said.
Note: "...the suspect waiting for,..."
That is from the affidavit.
The NYPost's reporting on the story was no different than any other news outlet.

I guess 20 years behind bars kept him behind the times in terms of DNA and smart phone technology.

There's been reports that he tried to flee in the vehicle, which was parked near the apartment complex where he (and/or his brother) lived.

Given how incompetent Cleotha is - the ridiculous flips flops, the active phone GPS, the cleaning out his car and washing his clothes like a murderer right after - HOW can they not locate the body of this poor woman?? I just don’t understand how he managed to hide her that well - especially given the relatively brief time frame.

Until we see the husband do a news conference, I'll withhold judgment on whether I think he hired this monster to kidnap his wife.
I can totally see her marrying him and having a prenup, so he concocted a scheme to get "ransom" but didn't count on the guy deciding he wanted a little fun with the wife and accidentally killing her.
There IS something fishy about the execution of the attack - as if it were all planned with very specific knowledge.

[quote]Imagine having a billion dollars and wanting to be a Kindergarten teacher.
Several years ago I read the #1 profession amongst wealthy women who work full time is…teacher.
Also, she’s not a billionaire, her grandparents are. That $50,000 reward was embarrassingly paltry and likely would’ve been more if her husband was a billionaire.
What a sad situation. Was this a Fargo-esque kidnapping gone wrong, or merely a random crime of opportunity?

by Anonymous | reply 135 | September 6, 2022 1:45 AM |
The NY Post was at pains to point out that she ran from the "fancy" area she lives to another "nice" area. The killer drove around looking for a likely victim to rob, and possibly rape.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | September 6, 2022 1:48 AM |
My guess is that the guy is a psycho predator who saw an opportunity and took it. He seems this blonde white woman alone, running along in a pink sports bra and purple shorts and thought "I'd like to get me some of THAT" and impulsively abducts her. And rapes and kills her. I think it's as simple as that.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | September 6, 2022 1:49 AM |
Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely he randomly went out and happened to come across her. Nobody would go out at 4:00 AM convinced they’ll find a random woman jogging…which means he saw her several times and got a feel for her routine before striking.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | September 6, 2022 1:55 AM |
He may have gone out before 4AM, to catch drunk college girls perhaps.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | September 6, 2022 1:58 AM |
This article reports he was connected to a recently stolen Cashapp and Wisely card in which he racked up $910 in fraudulent charges at gas stations. He was linked to theft by the Champion slides found at the abduction site.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | September 6, 2022 2:00 AM |
[Quote] which means he saw her several times and got a feel for her routine before striking.
If this is the case, what was the rest of his plan? Because what we've learned tells us he was not dressed to for the occasion - slides can easily fall off even when walking, never mind running and struggling with someone. Nor did he efficiently get rid of the body, clean his company car... the list goes on. He left those slides behind him. There was little/no thinking invovled.
It made me think of that guy who posed as a taxi/uber driver and murdered that college student.
A predator, sure. But not a real planner.

[quote] Nobody would go out at 4:00 AM convinced they’ll find a random woman jogging…which means he saw her several times and got a feel for her routine before striking.
A lot of psychos are out at that hour just prowling. If they happen to see a woman alone they go for it. The singer Mia Zapata of the punk rock band The Gits was walking alone at 2:00 a.m. A psycho predator just happened to spy her, a woman walking alone late at night. He saw his chance and took it. He raped and murdered. This guy may have stalked this woman, but I don't think so. I think she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. She was taking a risk, out jogging at that hour. But I guess she thought it was safe. But nobody is safe anywhere these days.

JFC. This has to be the worst possible thing that can happen to any family.

People are more than just a photo or even a sweet song they sing.
People, including women, are complex, not perfect, who usually do their best to be good folks, and some are great at sports, others are great musicians, some are amazing fashion designers, while some are gardens, architects, cops, firemen, nurses, doctors, and even teachers.
Every time we (this includes me) sit around diminishing others, we teach each other to dim out some one’s light. Some go as far as permanently doing so.
This woman has taught me tonight, that maybe my light isn’t shining as bright as it can, because I am too busy dimming the light of others.
May this human being RIP.

One rich girl I knew in high school indeed wanted to become a kindergarten teacher (and she is) because she loves children.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | September 6, 2022 7:27 AM |
I don’t know why it is odd she would want to be a teacher. Most teachers love their actual work of dealing with children, teaching and seeing the impact they have on their students lives. What they don’t like is low pay and the pressures that low pay have on their work. Plus she gets summers off to do her rich people stuff.

He had his GPS on the entire time so why such a difficult time finding her or her body? Or have they found her?
by Anonymous | reply 165 | September 6, 2022 10:51 AM |
Body found near where his brother Mario lived - and where Cleotha was seen cleaning his vehicle. (I think he'd be living with his brother)

R166- Thanks for the update. He must have burned the body, as rumored, making DNA necessary for an identification. My sympathy to her loved ones. I truly hope her husband had no part in this for the sake of the children.

R168 yep, DL is thoroughly disappointed, we were fully ready for the husband's affairs coming out in part 2, hired hit in part 3, possible homosexual encounters during his college years in part 4...it's supposed to be a month long engagement with sleuthing, gossip, cable news watching and online bickering 🙄

The accused looks like 50 cent (a known asshole). Cleotha (is that a biblical name?) has a rap sheet going back to the age of 12. Some people cannot be reformed. Kidnapping, rape and murder is a helluva CV. Sad story all around.

R164, there’s a new trend with GOP-MAGA trolls on Reddit and elsewhere, indicating that becoming a teacher and educating kids is a dirty, rotten pursuit, that only elitist, liberals pursue.
It’s become an anti GOP-MAGA value to work in public education or in public libraries.
I was truly shocked when I came across it the first time, but have seen it regularly now.

Poor woman. And the murderer was failed from a young age. It’s a tragic, awful story.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | September 6, 2022 1:05 PM |
Me too, R174. Me too.
And what’s worse, is that our age of speedy information through the internet, has brought on a kind of person who blames this poor woman for her own demise, and criticizes her for being a teacher, claiming she must be a lib, in order to devalue and dehumanize her and other Americans, who still want to live a life filled with decent core principles and values, just because she’s a woman who exercised regularly and was a school teacher.
I’m stunned at this crime, and I am stunned at how a great country such as ours, has sunk into the depths of depravity where compassion seems to be in rare supply, and millions of sycophants sit at the virtual feet of a former president who also devalued women regularly while campaigning and in office, and who had the best access ever to receive a noteworthy education, yet shat on that opportunity, because he thought he was too special to learn anything worth learning, as most people who have zero to little compassion do.
And let’s not forget their devaluation of police officers and the FBI, who tirelessly worked through Labor Day weekend, to bring justice and the remains of this poor soul, back to her family and loved ones in her community, as well.
There are plenty of monsters in this world. Some ride around in SUVs, looking to victimize lone women, while others ride around the internet, looking to do more damage of whatever is left of someone’s memory, as well as to their fellow countrymen who are attempting to do the right thing.
May this poor woman RIP, and may her family find refuge in their faith and their community. 💔

[quote] According to the affidavit, searchers noticed high grass near a home on Victor near Person Ave. Police said they noticed vehicle tracks in the driveway and "the odor of decay." Then while searching around the home about 5 p.m., they found the body of a woman.

He dumped her in a vacant lot, minus her shorts which were found separately inside a garbage bag.

There is nothing wrong with suspecting the husband. The sad truth is that husbands often kill their wives.l; especially ones who have a history of drug abuse and affairs. I am glad in this case it wasn’t the husband, but lets save the hysterics.

DL threads about current events etc. tend to draw in outsiders, who get very defensive about people they don't know.
by Anonymous | reply 204 | September 6, 2022 9:29 PM |
Did the husband have a history of affairs? He looks like a loser - huge tattoo on his chest/upper arm, ageing badly - looks 40s or even 50s in the face but I think he's late 30s. Why would a wealthy woman end up with such a schlub? Maybe she was an addict too? I vaguely remember something about her being in rehab, as well - and she's pretty weather-beaten but I figured that was all that stupid "ultra" running.
by Anonymous | reply 205 | September 6, 2022 9:39 PM |
Did you see her singing video? She seemed like a space cadet.
by Anonymous | reply 206 | September 6, 2022 9:46 PM |
I made it a couple minutes in - bothered me that she wasn't singing the melody I learned, though maybe there are different versions. Like hearing someone sing Happy Birthday to the melody of Auld Lang Syne or something lol.
I think at the start she said, "This is for my girls" - but I thought she taught at a public school and surely they wouldn't segregate by gender. So maybe a private kindy (or I just misheard).
Nice woman - it's sad that it's just not safe for women to be out running at dawn (or even before). But in many places (most?), it's just not.
And his first victim was a young man - so maybe it's not safe for 'anybody'
by Anonymous | reply 207 | September 6, 2022 9:51 PM |
R205 If she was in rehab for anything, it might have been for an eating disorder. He seemed healthier at their wedding. Is it possible they were just fitness junkies? I was moved by his tears at the press conference
R207 She taught at an all girls parochial school.

But then there's that boy Dylan Rounds in Utah...
I remember reading that the reason the British started serving "tea" when it was still light when they entertained was because it was too dangerous to be out on the roads travelling back in the day - highway robbery or whatever.

by Anonymous | reply 217 | September 7, 2022 12:13 AM |
She was training for a marathon or half-marathon so a treadmill was not ideal. An indoor track would have been a better choice than jogging at 4am. Guessing that facilities with indoor tracks aren’t open that early in the morning.

What is sad is that there are people out there who won't allow us the freedom to leave our house for a walk or jog when ever the hell we want to. What is sad is that we accept that as normal in the US.

r41, so just like DL, they're obsessed with finding a way to blame the husband? The collective of both sites are more similar than they are different, which is why I'm tickled whenever DLers rag on them.
r110 - The smiling horse has more life in its eyes than Eliza when she smiled. She looked miserable in every photo.
r128, wow. And yet some threads get deleted --not locked, but deleted altogether-- because there's too much pushback against a certain untouchable group of people... I'm not surprised, though.
r134, agreed. She did good thing by becoming a teacher instead of some layabout or nepo baby.
r149, no one is making the argument that she'd be completely safe if she were to just dress modestly. People are saying that she and women in general need to take reasonable measures to protect themselves and reduce their risk of being victimized. If someone thinks not jogging in a bra and shorts at 4:30 am in a dangerous neighborhood is being unreasonable because people should be able to do XYZ without being preyed on, then I hope their day-to-day life reflects that reasoning: Keep the car unlocked with valuables in plain site at all times; keep your home unlocked at all times; regularly post on social media about when you'll be away from your home for an extended period of time; log into your bank account using a shared public computer on a public and unprotected wifi network; start an argument with the next angry open carry loon shopping in Walmart appearing as if they're looking for a fight; etc.
