Dave Wasserman explains why Madison Cawthorn has a small edge tonight:
[quote]Election rules matter: if NC’s primary runoff threshold were 50% or even 40%, #NC11 Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R) would be the underdog for renomination. Because it’s just 30%, he enters tonight the slight favorite.

R9, as Dave Wasserman said above, because the threshold is only 30%, it gives the edge to Cawthorn. Plus the anti-Cawthorn vote is divided between multiple candidates. If there was only one anti-Cawthorn candidate, he would probably be losing right now.

That's not correct. For these primaries it's up to the individual counties as to when to count the mail in ballots. Most started on primary day at 7 am with only a few counties, Mercer being the most notable, starting their count the day after the primary. Mist of the mail in totals are already reflected.

There won't be a runoff in PA. There will be a mandatory recount if it ends up being 0.5% or less separating the top two. After the recount, the winner will be declared, and that's that.
