*Primary Election Results for Tuesday May 17*

I did a search and couldn't find another thread.

Kentucky polls are now closed. North Carolina & Pennsylvania polls close in half an hour.

by Anonymousreply 127May 23, 2022 10:13 PM

Dave Wasserman explains why Madison Cawthorn has a small edge tonight:

[quote]Election rules matter: if NC’s primary runoff threshold were 50% or even 40%, #NC11 Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R) would be the underdog for renomination. Because it’s just 30%, he enters tonight the slight favorite.

First results from the Madison Cawthorn race!

Edwards (33.8% )

Cawthorn (33.6% )

by Anonymousreply 7May 17, 2022 11:36 PM

Cawthorn pulling ahead of Edwards:

Cawthorn (33.2%)

Edwards (30.7% )

by Anonymousreply 8May 17, 2022 11:39 PM

How terrible do you have to be if you can’t beat Cornhole in a primary?

by Anonymousreply 9May 17, 2022 11:41 PM

R9, as Dave Wasserman said above, because the threshold is only 30%, it gives the edge to Cawthorn. Plus the anti-Cawthorn vote is divided between multiple candidates. If there was only one anti-Cawthorn candidate, he would probably be losing right now.

by Anonymousreply 10May 17, 2022 11:43 PM

Harry Enten says Cawthorn trails by 11 points in the Early Vote, but he could win the Election Day vote tonight:

As Dave Wasserman and Nate Cohn predicted above, Cawthorn is starting to close the gap with Edwards now that the Election Day vote is coming in. Trump's late endorsement of Cawthorn as deserving a "second chance" may help him.

by Anonymousreply 37May 18, 2022 12:34 AM

Was that expected (Budd) PollTroll? Was he way ahead in the polls?

by Anonymousreply 38May 18, 2022 12:36 AM

R38, yes, in recent days Budd has been building momentum because of his Trump endorsement, so his win is not a big surprise.

by Anonymousreply 49May 18, 2022 12:51 AM

[quote]We’re NEVER gonna get rid of tRump, are we……

No. They had the opportunity to vanquish him and didn't. His endorsement still carries weight and gets people to the polls. It is one of the disappointing things about where we are right now as a country.

by Anonymousreply 50May 18, 2022 12:53 AM

McCormick is leading in PA in the early returns because the vote so far is the Mail-in vote. His lead is likely to drop once the E-Day vote comes in for Oz.

by Anonymousreply 51May 18, 2022 12:54 AM

64% of the vote now in, and Edwards' lead over Cawthorn drops to 4.6%

by Anonymousreply 53May 18, 2022 12:57 AM

Doubtful. All the Republicans ran on "I'm the trumpiest trumper who ever trumped". And it's hardly like a Kemp/Walker situation in PA.

by Anonymousreply 87May 18, 2022 2:45 AM

With 99% of precincts in, McCormick is leading Oz by approximately 3,800 votes.

by Anonymousreply 88May 18, 2022 3:03 AM

Dr Oz has a slight lead now

by Anonymousreply 89May 18, 2022 5:05 AM

R89 Yes, very slim. PA doesn't start counting mailed ballots until tomorrow.

The Trump-endorsed gubernatorial candidate in Idaho lost.

by Anonymousreply 90May 18, 2022 5:29 AM

[quote]Yes, very slim. PA doesn't start counting mailed ballots until tomorrow.

That's not correct. For these primaries it's up to the individual counties as to when to count the mail in ballots. Most started on primary day at 7 am with only a few counties, Mercer being the most notable, starting their count the day after the primary. Mist of the mail in totals are already reflected.

by Anonymousreply 91May 18, 2022 6:15 AM

[quote] So the Republican #PASen R primary will likely be decided by the late mail votes that all the Republican candidates say should not have been counted in 2020 and were the illegal votes Biden used to steal Pa.

It would be great if Oz is the candidate. There is no enthusiasm for him among Republican voters. He comes off as incredibly fake. Fetterman will easily be able to beat him.

by Anonymousreply 94May 18, 2022 2:23 PM

I think it wasn't dramatic, but Trump's hold on the Republican party was weakened last night. He didn't deliver a grand slam. There are plenty of Trump inspired freaks still running but I still hold it's all down hill for the Trump wing of the part from here. It just probably won't be a rapid descent.

by Anonymousreply 95May 18, 2022 2:36 PM

Republicans don't need Trump to tell them what to do. Lots of competition for MAGA out there now. Kind of like Netflix before all the other streaming services got going.

by Anonymousreply 96May 18, 2022 2:53 PM

Even if Meh met gets the nomination, almost 69 percent of the party didn't vote for him.

by Anonymousreply 103May 18, 2022 8:54 PM

That is a key point that needs to be reiterated R103

Yes, the primaries were crowded but his candidates all won by small percentage and with around only 1/3 of the GOP vote

by Anonymousreply 104May 18, 2022 9:37 PM

Follow-up: Meh met leads by 1,242 votes with 97% of precincts reported.

by Anonymousreply 107May 19, 2022 2:10 AM

[quote]I'm presuming Oz will do well in the runofffs as most of Barnette's voters will vote for him.

There won't be a runoff in PA. There will be a mandatory recount if it ends up being 0.5% or less separating the top two. After the recount, the winner will be declared, and that's that.
