OP, not sure if you're new. But threads fill up at 600 posts. Your last thread was just over 400.
No need to start this one friend.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 28, 2022 8:45 AM |
Extremely public meltdown caused by untreated mental illness
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 28, 2022 8:45 AM |
And the producers fantasized that Zelensky would make an appearance? Dear god.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 28, 2022 8:49 AM |
R1, I’m well aware. But someone in the other thread asked me to create one as it’s filling up fast. Also, it’s 5 am and I’m going to bed so I won’t be able to create a new thread when it hits 600 at about 9 am.

WORLDSTAR OSCARS
But I have to say, if you’re going to hit a man on live television, at least give him a proper knuckle sandwich.
That slap was so sissy.

What a pussy!
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 28, 2022 9:26 AM |
Chris didn't even flinch, wh. I find weird. If someone's coming at you with a fist you're going to at least try to get out of the way. And there wasn't a trace of reaction after Will 'hit' him.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 28, 2022 9:29 AM |
R7 He was shocked
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 28, 2022 9:31 AM |
My bet is that Will IS NOT having a morning after like this.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 28, 2022 9:31 AM |
If he’s allowed to attend the 2023 Oscars AT ALL, dressed this way should be the condition.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 28, 2022 9:32 AM |
Like, the joke wasn’t even really that very mean at all, it even complemented her in the sense that it made it sound like she still had the potential to actually be cast in a movie and get work, and we all know that’s not true, or ever likely will be again.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 28, 2022 9:35 AM |
Well I guess with William Hurt now dead, someone had to carry on the tradition of beating someone up on Oscar night?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 28, 2022 9:37 AM |
I’m so happy that Olivia de Havilland isn’t alive to witness such atrocities.

If that's the case, I have some feedback for you.

Wil Smith and his dyke wife are both fucking psycho.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 28, 2022 9:46 AM |
Chris Reeves would never have accepted assault and battery of Chris Rock. Smith needs to be in jail.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 28, 2022 9:47 AM |
R17 But he would have taken it sitting down, nonetheless.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 28, 2022 9:51 AM |
R7, I think he was in shock. Some people freeze or don’t react when ambushed like that.
It’s impulse control; something Smith was lacking.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 28, 2022 10:01 AM |
Yeah right. Chris Rock, a straight man, is that afraid of a well known closeted queer. That is rich.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 28, 2022 10:05 AM |
Despite the ovation and the defenses on Twitter, I think Smith's career is toast. He'll make some movies, but his career has been built on having this affable, humorous persona. The Will Smith we saw tonight is a violent, self-absorbed, humorless man. And it's not something he can hide or explain away.
Instead, we're already seeing the old, ignored stories come out--the arrests, the accusations of earlier violence. Expect more.
That said, Chris Rock won't file charges--no Black man is going to call the LAPD on another Black man. It would be seen as disloyal to the brotherhood.
I just keep thinking that Jada started the #Oscarssowhite campaign because she was mad that Will didn't get a nomination one year. He finally gets his trophy, but annihilates his image the same night. Careful what you wish for . . .
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 28, 2022 10:06 AM |
What’s really shocking to me is that you can clearly see Chris is literally in a defenseless posture with his arms behind his back when Will hit him, he may as well have been in a wheelchair.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 28, 2022 10:07 AM |
And it's not something he can hide or explain away.
Please, there's a huge, well-established PR pipeline for the rehabilitation of celebrities, just as Mel Gibson.

DL fave Roxane Gay is retweeting arguments about how anyone who has a problem with what Will Smith did is someone who doesn't want to see black women protected, and how this is all the fault of "yt" people. She literally cannot help herself.
She's also deleting these things as fast as she's putting them up, of course.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 28, 2022 10:08 AM |
I think the comedians and writers in the industry will do something about it ….
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 28, 2022 10:09 AM |
R22 What would have happened if Will Smith gave the beats to Chris Reeves in his chair? That'd have been funny to see,
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 28, 2022 10:09 AM |
What’s really shocking to me is that you can clearly see Chris is literally in a defenseless posture with his arms behind his back when Will hit him, he may as well have been in a wheelchair.
I know these are political trolls and I know we've been absolutely inundated with them for several days now, but the sheer amount of work people like r22 are putting into this, posting for HOURS with exaggerations to keep the outrage going, to make things seem worse than they were, is incredible. I cannot imagine having so little going on in my life that I'd spend time on this.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 28, 2022 10:10 AM |
Oh, FFS, this fucking baby.
Just over a year ago I became fucking irrevocably crippled when, after twenty years of excruciating pain that no one would take seriously, the pressure on my spinal cord and peripheral nerves wasn’t treated in time (thanks a lot, BC Health!) It will never improve, ever, unlike Jada’s situation. Still, my sister and my son make jokes about my crippled state and I love it! I don’t fucking care - I’m still me a cripple, finding humour in the darkness.
WTF was Will doing?! I don’t understand. He was being cucked, apparently, though with their open marriage who the fuck knows? Did he feel he had to make a big show of defending his woman like a goddamned ape? Was it overcompensation? Was it mere performance?
Apologies - I haven’t read the previous thread yet, but that I will do post haste.
The Will Smith we saw tonight is a violent, self-absorbed, humorless man. And it's not something he can hide or explain away.
He’ll hon a publicity tour reminding everyone he was doing it to stick up for his wife.
The Smiths are ridiculous, humorless and self absorbed assholes.

Thanks to this I was reminded That Will Smith completely ignored his first son from another relationship and only focused on Jaida's two brats, how did she pay him back? She slept with her SONs friend, what a CUNT!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 28, 2022 10:19 AM |
I hope Will gets dragged by every comedian across the country for the next year and into next year’s Oscars.

It's an open marriage. You can't get "cucked" in an open marriage, not that I'd expect a /b/ board refugee like you to know that.
Did he feel he had to make a big show of defending his woman like a goddamned ape?
You seem nice.

R23 And what condition is Mel Gibson's career these days? He was blacklisted for nearly 10 years. He makes stuff that sells overseas at this point. You won't see him getting any awards and he didn't hit a comic at the Oscars.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 28, 2022 10:23 AM |
Will is notorious for doing those little sissy slaps. Here he slaps the foreign press who did the double European cheek kiss.
Will is a total douchebag. His behavior is always excused. I'm sure what he did to Chris Rock will be excused as well.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 28, 2022 10:23 AM |
Gibson made 800 million from his film about the joose killing jeesus. I think Gibson is fine. He don't need to make no mo money.

Will thinks he is a Diva who is entitled to go around slapping people who say things he doesn't like. What a wonderful example he is to the nation's youth.

Jada’s seems a tough dyke who can handle her own. Certainly she was chagrined by these unnecessary handbags.

by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 28, 2022 10:36 AM |
R33… erm, R28 here. /b/ board refugee? I mean, twenty years ago, sure, but WHAT? If you mean my use of the word “cucked” - it’s because of the way Will’s reacted, not because I’m some pepe-loving b-tard.
I know what open relationships are, obviously. I’m far from monogamous myself, but Jada had Will on her show where he was distinctly uncomfortable as she talked about her “entanglement” with the young man du jour. The Smiths have kept things public and messy, which leads me to believe their “open” relationship is perhaps not so open or at least is not very well negotiated… or that they just love publicity and drama.

He just won an Oscar for Best Director in 2017, r34.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 28, 2022 11:04 AM |
Wait, Gibson was just nominated for Hacksaw Ridge, he didn't win. But let's not pretend like he's somehow "not as bad" as Will Smith, just because his various meltdowns and violent tirades didn't happen on live TV.
I've seen that a lot on these threads, like "it's not the same with Polanski because he didn't rape a 12yo girl on live TV" and that's just really, really weird.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 28, 2022 11:07 AM |
Big old bottom-acting Will Smith obviously didn't watch his psycho wife in her psycho GI Jane role on the Equalizer.
Not-so-down-low-boy owes Latifa an apology as well.
Keep my wife's pussy outya damn mouth!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 28, 2022 11:17 AM |
Based on her outfit I thought Jada had come direct from the set of the live action remake of the very hungry caterpillar. But then I remembered she doesn't get leading roles.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 28, 2022 11:21 AM |
He didn't just run onto the stage and assault somebody at a formal affair broadcast on global television. He bellowed obscenities from his seat like a tween gangsta acting up out on the streetcorner. This trash made the Oscars into Biggie vs Tupac, which is where American culture is going, in large part thanks to this behavioral paradigm. It is disgusting that people stood and applauded this low-class turd, and that this behavior is being normalized and enabled. Disgusting.
If Mel Gibson had done the same toward Billy Crystal at the Oscars he would have been arrested, and rightly so.

Anyway, remember the time that equally prissy little manbaby Sean Penn and his "compromised sense of humor" took offense at Chris Rock? What is it about Chris that triggers douchebags so much?

Or alcoholism/drugs.
It's so pathetic to see people with standards so low that this is considered a gallant act in their eyes. Somebody needs to tell the morons of Twitter that life isn't a movie and behavior like this is not a normal reaction to someone making a tasteless joke. This was someone who is completely out of control losing his shit in public like any other hot mess on the street. How low have the Oscars fallen that people are now assaulting each other on stage?

Well yeah. It would have been campier and more fun. Burton and possibly Liz would have been 3 sheets to the wind. Not to mention Liz would be dripping in too much jewelry and wearing so much make up she’d look like a drag queen. Bob Hope’s cheesy jokes would be putting everybody to sleep… That is until Burton punched him in the face (no sissy slap from him!) The whole scenario would be the most fun everybody would have all night.

I'm alarmed by many of the reactions to this. It's endemic of a problem with the "progressive" but actually illiberal SJW left. They think violence is an acceptable, justifiable response to words they don't like. (Apparently this is what happens when you declare that "misgendering is 'literal violence,'" etc.) Cancel culture looks quaint in comparison.

I didn't think joke was mean. G.I. Jane was basically a movie about a woman in the Navy who worked her ass off to become a Navy Seal which including head shaving. It's not like Chris Rock was saying that Jade is freak or anything.
I'm also bugged by people taking Will's side and crying about Chris Rock always making fun of black women. Janet Hubert is defending Will and this was her response on twitter. This is fucking stupid, Chris's joke wasn't really mean spirited.

by Anonymous | reply 72 | March 28, 2022 1:15 PM |
Some of the enabling and applauding reactions to this ARE alarming, R69. But I don't think it's a Left/Right thing--they both engage in this kind of trashy behavior. I think it's a descent of our culture into a stunted paradigm of emotional reactivity where people act out in a way you'd associate with toddlers or ignorant, low-IQ slices of society. Such as gangsters. Calling out over insults and then taking that to violence. Hatfields & McCoys, Biggie vs Tupac. The Kanye-vs-Pete-Davidson thing. The sick thing is that we've gotten to a point where this is normalized, admired and applauded rather than looked-down-upon, shamed, and punished. It's really gained currency thanks to gangsta rap product and the behavior of those who put it out, as well as due toTwitter and the rest of the SM cesspit.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 28, 2022 1:16 PM |
Jada has been voluntarily wearing a short / bald haircut since the 90s. She knows she looks gorgeous with it. These people are mentally retarded and I hope everyone boycotts hollywood for good. Fuck these idiots, for real.

R54 Gervais (love him) has dished out much worse to more important people than Jada. It's a tradition. I'm sure Rock wasn't expecting such an extreme and inappropriate reaction. Smith should have waited to express whatever outrage he was feeling privately. That was a professional venue, not the time or place.

It was about two rich and famous Black men on an international stage acting like scumbags. Not really what was needed in this age of genocidal racism.
What Will Smith did was defensible, as what Chris Rock said constitutes fighting words. Anyway, Jada looked fine with her buzz cut, whatever the reason she wore it.

Absolutely not. It was defensible to trespass onto the stage, smack the guy, on international TV, and then shouting obscenities from his seat, at a formal professional event and, again, on International TV ?? His upset might have been defensible, his behavior was not, in any way, shape or form.

Smith is twice the size of Rock. Rock stood there with his hands behind his back watched Smith charge him for 50 feet.. Never raised his arms in defense. Didn't loose his footing when "violently struck". Never even touched his face. Proceeded to make his speech with out even spitting or slurring. His face didn't have a mark on it. It's called a stunt slap. Couldn't have done it better myself.

Everyone complains about how boring awards shows are, but when they bring in comedians with some edge, thin skinned actors lose their shit. I remember Penn getting bent out of shape over some jokes Rock made about Jude Law (who was the hot young thing at the time) there were pretty tame. Smith would've stabbed Gervais over his caustic & mean humor. The theme of next year's Oscars Should be #Get over yourself
Some of the enabling and applauding reactions to this ARE alarming, [R69].
You are right, it isn't a left/right thing, or even a racial one has some are trying to make it out to. It is a societal problem from the top of the tree to the deepest root. It is like we are regressing to an earlier state, where arguments are settled with duels, brawls, and shootouts.

Anyone who thinks we're more violent now than in the past is trying to push an agenda, especially if they're trying to lay the blame of societal violence entirely on "gangsta rap product."

Oscar Attendees Rip Will Smith’s ‘Lame’ Apology, Predict Censure by the Academy.
The chatter after the telecast was all about Smith — and how it made the industry look
An abrupt hush fell over the bar just outside the Dolby Theatre auditorium where a packed room of agents, producers, executives and media watched Will Smith accept the Academy Award for Best Actor during Sunday’s Oscar ceremony.
“Twenty bucks says he doesn’t apologize,” said Rami Malek, who had been a presenter earlier in the evening, leaning on the bar.
“I’ll take that,” Patrick Whitesell, executive chairman of Endeavor, replied. “Twenty bucks says he does.”
Smith did apologize to the Academy and to fellow nominees — but not to Chris Rock, whom he had just smacked on live television for insulting Jada Pinkett Smith, the actor’s wife. Instead, the actor broke down and wept openly as he talked about protecting those he loved. He compared himself to Richard Williams, the often combative father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams whom he played in “King Richard.”
“Lame,” one disgusted studio marketing executive said. And that was pretty much the verdict from Hollywood insiders at the ceremony and at the Governors Ball, where Smith’s outburst was all anybody wanted to talk about.
The slap and the crass outburst — twice telling Rock to “Keep my wife’s name out your f—ing mouth” — was at first greeted with shock. “I couldn’t believe it — I thought it was a gag,” one prominent member of the Academy said.
“How crazy was that?” said another agent, Rich Klubeck, still reeling a few moments after witnessing the attack and Smith’s subsequent acceptance speech.
But the shock quickly turned to anger toward Smith for tainting Hollywood’s big night, according to about 20 people at the close of the telecast and at the Governors Ball that followed.
“I’m sad — really sad,” one prominent producer told TheWrap. “After all that we are trying to do to create change. And this Oscar’s was so diverse.” The fact that the incident involved two Black celebrities at a ceremony that actively sought to demonstrate inclusion was lost on no one.
“He should have stood up and said, ‘I have some issues with Chris Rock which I will discuss with him,’ and apologize to the room and then accept his Oscar and get off,” the marketing chief said.
One top television executive observed that Smith just seemed to “snap,” and gave credit to Rock for keeping his balance and “pouring it through.” That was about as sympathetic as the response among Oscar attendees got.
Several described Smith’s outburst as a prime example of “toxic masculinity,” others said that it was a stain on the Oscars that would surely be used to mock thin-skinned and petty celebrities throughout the industry. Several noted wryly that the confrontation would probably help the dismal telecast ratings.
But the overall takeaway was that Smith’s outburst would spill over to broader impressions of the entertainment industry, especially when the world is focused on a humanitarian tragedy in Ukraine.
“Framing it as ‘I’m a protector’ did not work when he just hit somebody,” one Governors Ball attendee said, noting that Rock’s crack about Pinkett Smith’s hair did not justify the intensity or violence of her husband’s response. “It was a gentle joke.”
MOFE INSIDE.

Smith’s leading man creds are in tatters after all the oversharing about relationship troubles and all the weepy weepy behavior the past few years. He “gets enraged and defends his wife” is very alpha male and aggressive.
Rock gets to show he took the blow and toughed it out and then took the high road and didn’t press charges.
And Sean Combs said right afterwards, “it’s all over, they’re still friends, no beef.” Yeah right.

I don't believe it was fake in the sense of being a planned bit but there was something counterfeit about it on Will's part. He was slow to react then makes the decision when he sees his unsmiling wife and makes a quick mental calculus that his prowess has been challenged once too often. Don't forget the earlier, creepy skit where what's-her-face invites the male actors on stage because they need a Covid test that she's going to "administer" wink, wink and then says "you can come too Will, Jada approves it." Add the diss at the Bafta awards when host Rebel Wilson says Smith deserves the best actor award for acting like his wife's boyfriends don't bother him".
He had been steaming for a looong time while pretending he was cool with everything because he's basically a wimp. There's a reason he "lost it" with a gazillion people watching.

Will Smith continuing to be defiant following his assault on a comedian is.....so trashy.
He parties the night away, celebrates with photos of his family all the while declaring “It’s a beautiful night”.
Could the ignorant trash be more tone deaf? What is it with people like him, Bull Cosby and Jussie Smollett?
They commit heinous acts and double down further cementing their debased behaviour?
This IS animalistic behaviour.

I’ve been reading comments about this on Twitter and ONTD (lol I know) and the way some people are so adamantly defending Will is truly laughable and bizarre. Chris Rock may well be kind of an asshole, but in what world does a lame, tame joke like that (a GI Jane 2 reference?), which I’m sure went over the heads of 99% of viewers, warrant going up on the Oscar’s stage and slapping the shit out of him on live tv in front of an audience of millions across the world?
by Anonymous | reply 233 | March 28, 2022 5:57 PM |

My favorite line I’ve seen echoed on Twitter/elsewhere is that White celebrities or people who disagree with Will Smith should “stay out of Black people’s business”
That’s generally a rule I can agree with, but this happened on live tv, at the Oscar’s. This didn’t happen at someone’s backyard cookout and we were all just walking by and decided to poke our heads over the fence to see what all that ruckus was about.

Academy spent several years addressing all those grievances by blacks and making them part of the community oftentimes at the expense of the actual quality of work awarded. by Anonymous | reply 243 | March 28, 2022 6:16 PM |
R239, that's ridiculous. I agree with you. How is it black people's business? Because it happened between two black people? It's like they're saying all those two men are is black, ignoring that they're public figures known to entertainment watchers all over the world, and it's a show and stars that people of all races and nationalities are invested in (to varying degrees). So reductive. I get that there are probably many things in black culture that white people shouldn't stick their noses in, but a physical assault between two stars on international TV is something we can all have an opinion on--because we all watched it happen and are trying to make sense of that shocking, unprecedented behavior.
Honestly, an Oscar-nominated actor gets up from his seat, barges onto the stage, and hits the presenter on live TV? How could Will Smith have been to so, so many awards shows over his career and not realize how insane that was?

by Anonymous | reply 245 | March 28, 2022 6:21 PM |
Rock won't press charges - that's a non-starter - but I'd like to see him give an interview saying that these antics are the reason that awards shows are dying; the in-person audience is the most thin skinned, sensitive, petulant bunch you'll find short of a Trump rally. He probably won't do that, but it would be great if he did.

As I black person, let me say that it saddens me at some of the shit white progressives will fall for, so they're not seen as racist. What we saw last night was one privileged black man hit another privileged black man because he did a comedy routine about the privileged black man's privileged black wife. Academy 'strongly considered' removing Will Smith from Oscars after slapping Chris Rock, source says
At least a dozen members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the organization behind the Oscars, met virtually on Monday morning to discuss a response to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock during Sunday's ceremony, according to two sources with knowledge of the meeting. The meeting was described as "heated" and "divided." There was no agreement on further action, according to the sources. The dozen members who met on their own volition and are being described as influential and recognizable members of the Academy, including actors and directors. The group does not have any disciplinary power, but they are considered high profile enough that the Board of Governor's for the Academy could be influenced in any response they may have. Some people on the call said the Academy mishandled the incident with the tweet. Others feel that the situation was handled properly and no further steps should be taken, according to the sources who spoke to CNN. It's unclear if the Academy leadership is planning on meeting to discuss the unprecedented situation. CNN has contacted the Academy for further comment. MORE INSIDE

r273 no one may care for Richard Marx much these days but his twitter feed is decent and his comment at r272 is spot on. Like Will & Jada haven't heard 100s of jokes about themselves over many years in H-wood. It's part of the deal, for all of them there.

I caught a few moments of Tiffany Haddish onstage. She was preening and clowning and shaking her little behind. Also sticking her tongue out like Miley Cyrus used to.

It wasn’t stupendously idiotic move on Will Smith’s part to assault Chris Rock over a hair JOKE.
We seen more trenchant jokes by Ricky Gervais, Dave Chappelle and even Amy Schumer’s joke about Being The Ricardos last night. Everyone - save the Smiths - were able to laugh it off.

Tiffany Haddish is an absolute moron. A "beautiful thing", to see your husband storm up on stage at a prestigious formal events televised to millions, and sucker punch an unsuspecting black comedian for telling a relatively harmless joke.
It's a beautiful thing to see respect and protection from a husband to his wife, but by acting like unhinged trash on international television? On the biggest professional nights of their lives no less. And as if Jada herself can't defend herself against Chris Rock's stupid quips about her hair. It's sad to see people suck up to Will Smith because he's higher in the HW hierarchy than Chris Rock these days. Denzel and Tyler Perry were the ones who made sure Will wasn't kicked out of the room last night. And Bradley Cooper went to "comfort" Will too. YUCK.
As Tiffany Haddish once said incredulously, "Really Jada - you from Baltimore, bitch!"

It was a dumb, tasteless joke--the kind that bald and balding men get every day.
Being bald is painful on numerous grounds but it's not a physical disability. Jada has thinning from weaves, traction and bleach.
If women need to remove the taboo from announcing they're menstruating, they might as well own thinning hair. Hair positivity, y'all..
Adult women do not need adult men to protect them unless they're getting mugged or carjacked.
The last Will Smith movie I was was Men in Black2 ten year ago. I cancelled him when he said he was thinking of running for president. ""That might sound foolish to some," he told the NY Daily News via Variety, "But, in my mind, if Ronald Reagan can become President, then why not Will Smith?" Now, he and his obnoxious family no longer exist.

Add on that she was TERRIBLE in The Card Counter this year when she was gifted with what should have been a chance to prove she could do something different performance-wise and I'm done with her.

One anonymous member of the Board of Governors for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said-
I think Chris got what he deserved. Didn’t he make a movie about Black women’s hair? And then you go on national TV and make fun of a Black woman’s hair? He’s lucky that’s all he did. But now look, this whole night is ruined and we can’t even celebrate because that’s all people are talking about.”
The article explains that people who worked with Will Smith on his last film have never seen that angry side of him. Others are pointing at previous issues with Chris Rock making fun of Will Smith's wife in public, and this time Will refused to take the humiliation anymore. But as a result, he's even more humiliated than before. So the "solution" becomes an even bigger problem.

And now we create a precedent that will allow even the Oscars to turn into an episode of the Jerry Springer Show going forward, where someone invited gets offended by someone or something said to the point that they don't keep their instinctive emotions in check and angrily act on them by bounding across the state and assaulting somebody (?!). Rock was a jerk and should never have sunk to making that statement. But it's unfortunate Smith couldn't have met him backstage to have a word with him, and then gone onstage when he found out he won his award and maybe made a reference to having discussed something Rock and how people should treat others and act, blah blah. I also recall people making of Demi back then, but she just brushed it off.

Agree with r264, I spoke to two middle aged black women today about this and they were extremely disappointed in Smith for throwing away 30+ years of work in show business in what was supposed to be the pinnacle of his career. But leave it to Datalounge to determine what all black people think.
And there have been stories about Will's massive ego for years, Janet Hubert wasn't the only person who got shut down by him. He can be an extremely nasty person when he doesn't get his way.
And there are a ton of women, black, white and otherwise like Tiffany Haddish who think this is a justified case of a man defending his wife. Those women have likely had broken relationships with men their entire lives to make them think this was an appropriate expression of love.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, only 31 percent of the actors invited to the Academy Awards this year were white--the Academy truly was amping up the diversity look (because, meanwhile, the nonperformer membership continues to skew heavily white and male).
Given that Jada Pinkett started the whole #Oscarssowhite thing back in 2016 because Smith didn't get a nomination, the evening should have been a triumph, but instead, I think we may be reaching peak woke--we saw the dark side of Black culture, the trigger-over-reaction to perceived slights by Black men that, yes, continues to drive the tragic rates of Black on Black male violence.
And because it happened in as public a space as possible, it isn't something that can be kept in the "family," which is the current spin Black Hollywood is trying. What Smith did just reinforced a lot of stereotypes people around the world have and he managed to make the Blackest Oscars into the GhettoOscars. His trying to use Richard Williams' as an excuse was revolting.
Man, it just amazes me how much Will Smith fucked this up.

Why I won't slap Chris Rock, By Deirdre Hall
I believe that televised awards shows are not a forum for expressing personal religious, social or political views or a mean right hook. However, I have not objected when fellow performers have slugged a loud mouth B-lister to express their support for people they have to live with day in and day out; in a community property state, that's not necessarily their choice. My choice is NOT to punch, slap, kick or otherwise engage in what they call it's on.
People should know fisticuffs at awards shows is no longer entirely voluntary. Those who began by throwing a few unhinged hooks now resort to extreme body slams in pursuit of their express goal of 100 percent conformity. When performers arrive at an award show, individuals accost them. A performer who declines may be accosted at the pre-show reception, again while waiting backstage and again at the press conference after the show. The bruises add up. At that point, performers who won't comply undergo forced body make up to hide the violent truth of modern day awards broadcasts.
Offering these beatings was, in my view, a malign and anti-social act, but between two people who were already usually getting away with murder in the figurative sense. On the other hand, aggressively sucker punching performers to compel further mid-broadcast brawling is not only demeaning to victims if genuine mutual loathing and to the desperate need for an all-out girl fight, but an offense against personal freedom.
By attempting to force 100 percent conformity, these pugilists are now attempting to make a good old fashioned throw down a visible litmus test for separating those individuals who know how to play the game in this town and those who do not. This is a misguided and dangerous notion.
Sadly, it falls to some of us who know our Art of War to resist these tactics by personal example. Believe me, the easy way out would be to pin some bitch to ground and shove your first so deep in her mouth she keeps silent. But I won't, because I don't want these appalling tactics to succeed.

And then of course they made it about republicans.
Behar closed out one of the Hot Topic segments by comparing the Oscar incident with last week’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson. “Judge Jackson probably wanted to jump up and bitch slap that Ted Cruz but she didn’t,” Behar joked. “She remained professional.”

Will looked like he was on something. Beyond the slap, when he sat back down, with his chin jutted out and eyes glassy, he just looked off. The stage was weirdly close to the audience too, it’s not like Will Smith had to work hard to get on stage. If he did, he might have had time to reconsider. Or maybe not.

R332 In other words, you don't want to acknowledge an uncomfortable truth--that there's an unhealthy dynamic in the Black community.
R335 There's a crossover--though I'd say it's more Southern working-class culture than working-class culture in general, but it's particularly problematic in Black culture--there are reasons for that--distrust of whites and, thus, external social regulators such as police and an unwillingness to push accountability--white working class people don't hate cops--they're more likely to be related to them. Or be them. It's a different dynamic.
Most murders in the U.S. are committed by Black men. Most of their victims are Black men. That's a hell of a statistic for 6 percent of the population. No other group comes close.
Will Smith is 53 years old--he's not some hot-tempered teen with raging hormones--and he still couldn't keep his hands to himself. It's astonishing that this behavior is being defended, rationalized.

R345 Black women don't have this issue. It's Black men, who make up a bit less than half of the Black population (shorter life expectancy than that of women). Blacks make up around 13 percent of the population, the 6 percent is roughly taking half of that.
Might help, though, if the Tiffany Hadishes of this world didn't try to normalize or enable it.

The Kidman photo that's making the rounds on social media has been confirmed to have been taken during the pre-telecast ceremony for the 8 relegated categories. The LA Times photographer who snapped it said she was reacting to Jessica Chastain arriving in the theater.
“Yes, the picture of Nicole Kidman was taken during the non-televised portion. It appeared that she was excited to see Jessica Chastain across the room. Kidman then reached out her arms and waved to her with both hands.”
None of you conspiracy theorists have logically explained why they would have staged this. If it was scripted by the show, they wouldn't have had Will shouting expletives from his seat. If it was fake, his team would have been doing damage control making sure everyone knows that it was fake. If it was a stunt, it was the stupidest stunt Will could have ever agreed to. How would this have benefitted him? His reputation has been damaged. The biggest night of his career was tarnished. He looks like a fool at minimum. But mostly he looks like a raging asshole who is afraid of and manipulated by his crazy wife.

His loser son’s response “that’s what we do” also makes me wonder if Smith has blown up so many times that it’s no big deal to him.

R 352. In almost any culture or race it is men who commit murder. Although you are correct that black people in America commit a disproportionate number of murders relative to other races and that black men make up only six percent of the US population, you would also have to halve the percentages of the whites, Asians etc in the total population when assessing their propensity to murder as well. If you did that, their propensity to commit murder would look more striking as well.

Staging makes no sense. Smith was twenty minutes from the big gold bauble his ego yearned for. And all the fawning he'd take as his due. Rock would have agreed to be struck hard live on TV. Smith compounded his violence by twice using foul language in righteous aggressive display. What possible benefit would accrue from such a 'staging'? All it did was to show everyone up as sordid spoiled nasty individuals, and to degrade a supposed showpiece event.

There will be consequences for Smith and support for Chris Rock, even if it comes subtly. Has Dave Chappelle posted or stated anything yet about it? I'd love to hear his take on it, being as he's an A-list black comedian and contemporary of Rock's. Rock himself is due to kick-off a major stand-up tour in just a few days.
I think the support will come in death by a thousand cuts for Smith. Like, many of the stand-up comics and actors who'll side with Rock will never let go of making fun of Will and Jada. They will be the but of many jokes for years, it will be nearly impossible for it all to 'go away'.
And Black Hollywood may wish to keep this as an 'inside thing', ie a bust-up between two private members that will be handled by their community; but the plain fact that Smith took it all so public, during the live Oscar telecast of all places (THE high altar of white male dominant Hollywood, a sacred space for them) puts paid to any of that. It's going well beyond those boundaries.

For years, blacks were mistreated. Absolutely.
But now the pendulum has swung so far to the other side that the amount of melanin (if increased) has been a shield to avoid consequences of anything: including violent assault witnessed by millions.
And the whole flooding of American culture with black everything (they are only 13% of the population) is fast becoming old.
This Will Smith thing is huge, and it’s unlikely the ramifications will be felt immediately. But many appear to be incensed. Will Smith, Jussie, Bill Cosby and the rich, gansta “ghettoifcation” of US culture is degrading.

I haven't seen elsewhere noted that the whole "slap" looked very much like "using proper form". Like he's practiced it a million times. Left arm bent and lifted just so out of the way, right hand in proper set position, with the right arm swinging away with practiced perfection. Torso turning to get maximum effect. The whole thing is just bizarre, but he's definitely practiced and done this before.
Think about how you'd walk up to someone in the heat of the moment and slap them. It wouldn't be in this "using proper form" sort of way, would it? I'm not suggesting you or I would ever do it, but act it out and then also put yourself in the shoes of a really angry person. It wouldn't look like this. And no, I'm not a slapper nor have I been slapped, I just noticed that it looked very much like practiced form.

I'm sure it's been mentioned many times already. But in Scientology men are trained to "slap" others in just that way. It's a show of dominance. Hence the weird affect of Will walking up to Chris Rock friendly but intently and then smiling immediately after decking him. It's a very distinct hand position and movement, designed to hurt and humiliate with force but not maim or kill. Smith is obviously expert at it. There's a lot of nuance to this act. It has next to nothing to do with black culture or black men or defending your wife. Will and Jada are very, very secretive and very weird.
That's what their son meant when he said - "That's what we do." They are not thugs, they're scientologists.
Will and Jada built their own school to hide the fact they are a family of scientologists.
I thought everyone knew this, because Smith has always worked too HARD to be charming. He's the good guy always maniacally smiling and laughing too loud and turning on a dime to flashing insane eyes when he's unhappy or offended. So very reminiscent of Tom Cruise.

[bold]Hmm … Oscars Sponsor Pfizer Coincidentally in Race to Market Cure for … Alopecia[/bold] BY ATHENA THORNE MAR 29, 2022 4:35 PM ET
Pfizer — together with COVID-jab partner BioNTech — was a major sponsor of Sunday’s Oscars award ceremony, a broadcast that unexpectedly shone an un-missable spotlight on the hair-loss disease alopecia. In one heck of a coincidence, Pfizer just happens to be in a race for market dominance of its soon-to-be-released cure for — you guessed it — alopecia.
In the world of pharmaceutical marketing and advertising, Pfizer’s sponsorship of the 2022 Oscars was a big deal. The drugmaker wouldn’t disclose what it spent on the sponsorship, but bio news source Fierce figures that Pfizer paid at least several million for the spot. [...]

𝑱𝒊𝒎 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒚, 60, was asked by anchor Gayle King about the endlessly analyzed moment on CBS Morning News while doing press for Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
'I was sickened by the standing ovation,' he said, referring to when Smith took home the Best Actor award not long after the slap incident. 'I felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse. It really felt like this is a clear indication that we're not the cool club anymore.'
Benedict Cumberbatch, a fellow Best Actor nominee, as well as Best Director nominee Paul Thomas Anderson and actress Maya Rudolph were some of the stars who stood for Smith's win. Venus and Serena Williams, whose father was portrayed by Smith in King Richard, also stood.
Carrey, who briefly overlapped with Rock in the early 90s on Fox's In Living Color, claimed Rock didn't file charges about the slap because he 'didn't want the hassle' and suggested Smith should have been arrested.
'I'd have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200 million because that video's gonna be there forever. It's gonna be ubiquitous. That insult is gonna last a very long time,' Carrey said.

Between watching Sunday's Oscars and seeing the clips of what happened during the commercial, I noticed a couple of things.
After assaulting Chris Rock, Will Smith was talked to by his elder, Denzel, but also by fellow secret-gays Madea and Bradley Cooper, who understand the pressures of a life in the closet/lavender marriages.
Later, he was presented his Oscar by fellow secret gay Scieno John Travolta. If you wondered why the 28th anniversary of Pulp Fiction was celebrated, it was so closeted Scientologist Travolta could hand the trophy to closeted Scientologist Smith.
You'd think maybe Samuel L. Jackson might have handed the award to Will since they were leaning away from #Oscarssowhite, but Scienotology trumps all, so it was Travolta.

Amy, Wanda and Regina came out at the end in their pajamas. It was fine. As good a way to end the night as any.
Seems we can't be sure of reality anymore or are so super sensitized to question an enraged superstar worth hundreds of millions of dollars is given a pass to assault a comedian for making a joke on a worldwide broadcast?
Regina Hall made a much more egregious joke about Will and Jada Smith during her COVID screening sexist bit....but no one mentions that. She called up male "stars" on the stage to molest and invited Will too, because she "heard Jada would be fine with it." Smith laughed and didn't join Jason Momoa and the others.
Or the Rebel Wilson joke when hosting the Baftas a few backs about Smith's Performance in King William: "I thought his best performance over the past year was being OK with all his wife’s boyfriends.”
According to Jada, it's time for healing. They got a lot of damage control to do for people not in the least bit humble or sorry. Fucking humorless scientologist oversharing secretive psychos. Will Smith did nothing positive for women, marriage, Hollywood OR the Black community. The End.

by Anonymous | reply 450 | March 30, 2022 9:42 AM |
They shamed themselves R450. Yes, Jada did. And that was Chris Rock's original joke about her and the situation in 2016. Jada started Oscars So White because Will was not nominated that year.
So her cuckold husband Will is finally nominated again and heavily favored to win......and then this! His out of control explosion over next to nothing but Jada's displeasure. Ha. That part is funny. He destroyed not only his victory but any chance of ever returning.
It has little to do with blacks and non blacks. Except that Chris Rock dislikes and knows who Will Smith is and likes to take a dig at them. Will and Jada HATE Chris Rock and just about anyone outside their control bubble. They are humorless - not matter how much they Scientology smile.
I think it's kinda great. Smith has been nominated for and Oscar a few times before. He wins this year - but most people think he shouldn't have even still been in the building when the Best Actor was awarded.
Don't make it racial. Leave that to the very rich and privileged Will and Jada Smith.

Dr. Grande had a good analysis of this. To paraphrase, surprising Will Smith was not removed, this is unusual behavior in and of itself to outside viewers. His anger control issues was basically feeling inadequate because of his wife's affair and he was trying to over compensate to what he perceived as being hyper masculine in an attempt to appeal to his wife.

“Yeah. Because and for them to let him stay in that room and enjoy the rest of the show and accept his award, I was like ‘how gross is this.’ This is just the wrong message, you assault somebody you get escorted out of the building. That’s it. But for them to let him continue, I thought was gross,” She said of the Academy allowing Smith to accept his Oscar and continue watching the show.
“No one has apologized to us,” she added, despite Smith having apologized to Rock and the Academy.

After a few re-plays with the sound off, I think the myth that it was a stunt owes in large part to Chris Rock himself thinking the same when Will took the stage--at first. I believe Chris Rock initially thought he was being pranked as part of the planned show hijinks. Like, some silly gag cooked up by Will and the Oscar show people. He leaned in with this look of expecting some wackiness and preparing to roll with the joke.
That, and the fact that the "Scientology Slap" factor has not gotten enough play out there in the media. DL was first on the case, and I just read it in a Tweet roundup somewhere. But have seen zero discussion otherwise.

Either way, their brand has taken a hit here and, they have lost most of the what remained of any respect they had prior to Oscars 2022.
When Wanda Sykes - the host of their event - is calling them “gross”, you know they have sunk to bottom level.

r481,this is a huge live telecast, to do something like that is like stopping a train moving at full speed. These shows are orchestrated down to the minute. Any time they had to step on stage was used up by heated exchanges behind the scenes, and there are other awards and presentations that must go on in the sequence they planned. You also have the entire movie industry in one room and they don't want their night interrupted further. Most of the viewership doesn't care either way. And to assemble the entire board of governors and necessary personnel on awards night to have an effective meeting and make a unified determination is impossible.
It even took the news media until the wee hours of Monday to start officially reporting that it was an intentional assault, the press was told not to ask the talent any questions about it when they exited.

R490 simple. The show goes on while Rubin and the board of governors consult. Technology is our friend. Those not there can zoom. They decide to throw his ass out. Give out the other upcoming awards, and then completely ignore the Best Actor category, and close out with Best Picture.
As the show ends, the last statement by the host should have been "Any other possible award will be handled separately at another time. Good Night." and bring up the music. Turn off the cameras and end the show.
Leave Smith and his wife sitting there.

Smith has a lot of money and some production deals, so he'll have some stuff coming out, but he's sure as hell not going to have a Best Actor career bump. Hell, Sally Fields "You really, really like me!" acceptance speech did a serious number on her career just because it made people cringe, but this? He's done.
Variety had an article with some anonymous PR/crisis types saying that he could survive this if he managed things very carefully--did a big teary confession with Oprah, but I don't see it, just because everybody saw it and, honestly, he's not smart enough or a good enough actor to do what Reese Witherspoon did which is to apologize ASAP, turn heavily to producing and take parts playing a bitch. And that was just for being an entitled drunk.
Smith blew up the Academy Awards because his wife literally can't take a joke. #BlackFragility, anyone?

People get escorted out of the office every day in corporate America. With the armed force of security and police outside that theater they couldn't find one guard to do the job?
Academy Dear, Bitch Please, weakest excuse I have ever heard.
You deserve the harsh stain on your whole business reputation if you fail to do anything equally as shocking and harsh as was the violence YOU LET PLAY OUT ON STAGE. Harsh words and slapping him on the wrist with minor privileges is not going to cut it. You want to restore his reputation, grow a pair of balls and take away his award.
It's not the end of the world, it's just symbolic anyways. He damaged your brand permanently. I guess you are OK with that. By the way cant remember anyone else who won an award because of it.
by Anonymous | reply 509 | March 31, 2022 6:35 AM |
You sound insane R509. That's not the way that world works. Smith's performance was voted on by his peers. He won the award. It was a live show and he was sitting up front. He was told to leave and refused. A show like this is planned 10 months in advance and every moment is accounted for. It's fucking LIVE with a 7 second delay. Just how or when was the Academy supposed to get the police to have Will Smith dragged out in front of a still shocked theatre audience of many supporters and about 50 million worldwide viewers? This isn't your like when you got caught in the high school gym showers fondling the B league.

Oh for fucks sake, it's not the end of the world to cut to a commercial. It's been done many times before on live broadcasts. That's how live TV works, they plan for unplanned events. Are you telling me if will had pulled out a gun and shot him instead that there's nothing they could have done because it took 10 month to plan? You take entertainment shows way too seriously.
I am not arguing they needed to hide the slap, I am saying they should have gone to a commercial, called security and removed him once he REFUSED to leave. When they come back show goes on. Dont even need to pan to the empty seat, it's their show, they can do what they want. Have some industry exec accept on his behalf.

Rock's line, 'That was the greatest moment in the history of television', said with that shocked smile, was gracious indeed in the circumstances. He held it together when he of all people was thinking and feeling - WTF was that? The show must go on indeed.
As for 'the greatest moment', Rock can be forgiven his hyperbole. He had to say something! It might not have been Oswald shot by Ruby, or the moon landing, but it's up there forever. It'll be analysed as forensically as the Zapruder footage.

As far as the decision to let him stay in the theatre, based on the events of recent years (i.e. the best picture mix up a couple of years ago), for whatever reason the producers of this show can't/won't adjust in real time and seem to just take the approach to role with it & explain later.

Word out on the street from Hollywood insiders is that the Academy is going to take "significant action" against Will Smith. They might limit his ability to vote for the Oscars for a whole year! No I am not joking. That's their idea of sending a message.
The Academy proving to the world how out of touch and self important they think they are. Club privileges? That's the message you are sending? Oh, but don't call you elitists. Cant imagine where they are getting that idea from. Rich people should never suffer the same consequences as some regular Joe.

When someone becomes violent at a work event, you remove them first, ask questions later. Very little thought appeared to be given to Chris Rock’s well-being, although as others have said, he carried on admirably despite being obviously shaken. And to the security of others in the theatre? No thought at all.
I’ve only been in close proximity to a person being hit in the face three times in my life. At best, it’s unnerving, at worst, it’s terrifying. How that event was perceived by those in the audience varies, but in all cases, they were asked to stay in the same room as the perpetrator, and watch him go on to collect the most prestigious award in their industry. What a cluster fuck. Nice job, Academy. And Will Smith is a punk.

Will Smith could have had a neurotoxin on his hands, like those North Korean assassins, and literally killed Chris Rock with one slap. The reason Rock hasn't said much may be because his brain is already affected and it's slowly destroying his cells.

I thought that stupid move on their part. No disrespect to Boseman, he seemed like a good guy, but his performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom wasn't Oscar worthy. I also thought Viola's performance in that movie wasn't worthy enough for a nomination. I was surprised that Viola's fanbase didn't go nutso on social media when she lost to Frances McDormand. It hasn't been "unveiled" that "the Academy lied." It's been alleged from some quarters. The Academy has dug its heels in and has insisted that it was conveyed through a rep he should leave, theirs or Smith's I'm unclear, and the answer came back, No. But the Academy did not order or direct it.
TMZ says Will Packer went to Smith and said he did not want Smith to leave, and he should stay. God, Will Packer was all about protecting his boy. This is not someone mindful to use his leadership role to act for the benefit of the whole.

I wonder if there will be schisms within the membership of the Academy. One of Smith's ass kissers Tiffany Haddish was invited for membership back in 2018, the same year whiny cunt Jada was invited. There are probably sane Academy members who annoyed with Smith's antics and then there are the others like Haddish who defend him.
If you read articles about Academy memberships starting from 2017 onward, a lot of people asked to join were ridiculous selections. I remember when Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones were asked to join in 2017, I thought was dumb as fuck because McKinnon's film career is just filled with flop movies and Leslie Jones is just someone people felt sorry for after the whole Milo Y debacle. The Academy should only invite people who have been in Oscar nominated movies and not just various random comedians who do a couple of movies a year.

Lupita has always given off an attenion whore type vibe. Remember at the 2016 Oscars when she got up danced when Pharrell came hear during the performance and also she and her brother in selfie with Ellen and bunch of other people.
I'm not a fan of nepotist baby Zoe Kravitz. But, I give her some credit because she's not falling for Will Smith's BS act or the stupid BS excuses about him defending his wife. They are also plenty of annoying things about Zoe's mom Lisa Bonet. But, Lisa never bought into Bill Cosby's BS like some of the other Cosby Show kid actors did. Then they started telling him, along with his handlers, to play the victim and apologize. He cried and gave a very bad performance, but they stood anyway because they are clueless and identify with him.
Meanwhile, no one (except a few) cared about Chris or could see through the complete bullshit of what happened. They are deluded and out of touch.

I like to withhold comments to hear what brainy DLrs say, but I haven't read anyone here yet mention WWE.
This, what we all saw, is pure WWE - which I personally have despised for years because it sets a bad example of behavior for children and adults. I have loved watching Will Smith and his antics and Chris Rock too- very entertaining. I don't view this event as racial at all. As an older female, I don't divide and label people by race. This is WWE 's fault too. It has influenced Will negatively. Sad, but we, as humans seem to be devolving: some of us look forward to applaud when men holler obscenities at other men, making spectacles of themselves, beating on their chests like Tarzans, and slapping and punching each other. THIS happens on TV every night, fellow humans. 🙄 Please stop the violence.
I think Will has the anger issues, and was encouraged by the violence of Scientology and WWE. It's disgusting.

Even if that were true, it doesn't make any difference, because telling a joke isn't a justification for a physical attack on live TV. People really seem to be skipping over what an aberrant act it was, and are focusing on the why instead of the what. Take what happened out of the context of an awards show and put it in an office, or at a wedding, or on a baseball field and the consequences would have been instant and predictable.
I think the Oscar crowd felt - in the moment - that Will was justified.
Then they're just as fucked up as he is.
Yes, they are. These are actors. If there are a thousand in a room, about five are normal people (and it sounds like none of them were there.) So on some confused, conflicted level they loved what they saw because Will Smith was them and Chris Rock was every comedian and late night host and reporter and internet troll whoever took the piss out of them. Only now some of them are scampering to the other side, when they grasp the fallout.
Remember Roxie: 'Cause none of us got enough love in our childhood. And that's showbiz, kid.

LOL at R589's link: 'After Denzel shared his wisdom, Bradley grabbed him, and that has been helping me sleep.'
MARY!
If Bradley were so mentally healthy, he wouldn't be a closet case.

R581, I’m sure the vast amount of people did NOT think it was justified. I think most of them were in shock/thinking at first it was planned and a joke. To me the joke was sort of a compliment—GI Jane was badass. If Chris Rock really wanted to insult Jada,he would have called her Telly Savalas or something related to baldness, not a shaved head. When it became apparent it wasn’t a joke, the crowd was very, very uncomfortable. But people (including Hollywood) tend to be sheep in crowds, so when a few people stood, so did the rest.

Packer was just on GMA and said Chris Rock insisted that the LAPD NOT arrest Smith.
*sigh* so much to unpack.
TJ Holmes of GMA did not ask Packer the obvious follow-up: Rock the victim had to make that decision? Did you ever think that was your decision as producer to overrule Rock and have the police arrest Smith.
Packer is sheltering behind Rock.
Still, and I'm surprising myself here, but Packer had to weigh a lot in those immediate moments and i think he was right not to have the LAPD haul Smith out and avoid that spectacle.
It's a close call, but still.

Should have been a question mark after this-
Did you ever think that was your decision as producer to overrule Rock and have the police arrest Smith?

Damn I created a part 3 but there’s a typo in the headline. Feel free to make another post that doesn’t have a typo. Maybe the # is apt, though.

Packer has reacted in the most cowardly way possible: 1) not owning that he was the one who insisted Smith stay, 2) hiding behind Rock for not having Smith arrested, 3) by not admitting that the best decision would have been to inform Smith that he could either leave voluntarily or have Best Actor announced last and stop the telecast and end the show if Smith won, notifying the viewers why the telecast had ended.

R597, Packer certainly miscalculated. I do have sympathy for him though. Here is is producing an Oscar telecast, and the slap was a pretty epic, shocking occurrence that obviously they were not prepared for. He should have followed what I’m sure is documented policy—remove Smith immediately. But he was afraid of a backlash no matter what he did, so he did nothing. He’s trying to backtrack now that an overwhelming number of people believe Smith should have been removed.

If nothing else, Smith should have been removed from the audience. Put him backstage. Hope he leaves on his own. The fact that he went right back to his seat after winning is telling. He wasn't risking going off camera.

Here’s a proper thread 3. This one is soooo slow anyway.
