Will Smith knocked the shit out of Chris Rock (official thread)

WILL SMITH SAID “KEEP MY WIFE’S NAME OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MOUTH”

by Anonymousreply 607March 28, 2022 4:25 PM

Wow

by Anonymousreply 1March 28, 2022 2:36 AM

that silenced the crowd...now we get to see him get up there and accept award

by Anonymousreply 2March 28, 2022 2:39 AM

Huh?

by Anonymousreply 3March 28, 2022 2:39 AM

At first I though the hit was fake and part of the act. I agree with Will Smith, the remark was a low blow -- but seriously it was just a joke. But the way Smith reacted was over the top, and now if he wins, he better calm the fuck down before he makes his acceptance speech.

What was the joke?

by Anonymousreply 6March 28, 2022 2:42 AM

Thank you, r5. I'm not watching the event so I didn't understand the reference.

r6, apparently Kris Rock made a joke about Jada looking like GI Jane because she's bald. It's a low blow given she shaved her head due to an illness.

by Anonymousreply 7March 28, 2022 2:44 AM

An unusual move on Smith's part when there's a lot in his personal life that comedians might decide is no longer off-limits.

by Anonymousreply 8March 28, 2022 2:44 AM

That was shocking. He's so zen. Insane.

by Anonymousreply 9March 28, 2022 2:45 AM

Calm the fuck down you asshole.

by Anonymousreply 10March 28, 2022 2:45 AM

It's called a joke. Brush it off cause you're about to win an Oscar, you pathetic fucking asshole!

God how I hate Will Smith!!

by Anonymousreply 11March 28, 2022 2:46 AM

I didn't complete my thought: I'm not watching the event, so I didn't understand the reference and had to search Twitter.

by Anonymousreply 12March 28, 2022 2:46 AM

[quote] apparently Kris Rock made a joke about Jada looking like GI Jane because she's bald. It's a low blow given she shaved her head due to an illness.

Umm, it's not an illness, she has hair loss from doing it up in braids for 50 years.

by Anonymousreply 13March 28, 2022 2:47 AM

I fucking loved it!

Definitely is going to breathe some life into the Oscars now lol.

Everyone is going to tune in right now to watch. There’s finally a reason.

by Anonymousreply 14March 28, 2022 2:47 AM

Everybody was stunned. The salute to The Godfather was diluted.

by Anonymousreply 15March 28, 2022 2:47 AM

Worst Oscars ever. The putative best actor winner assaulting a speaker who is a COMIC doing a joke about a woman who has to be "protected" by her husband?

Astonishing. Nasty ghetto trash. And don't pretend it's not all about stereotypes.

Shit.

by Anonymousreply 16March 28, 2022 2:47 AM

It's a joke. A JOKE.

Comedy is dead. I laughed my ass off and I thought Jada and Will might let down their egos and laugh, too.

But, nope, they behaved EXACTLY how I expected them to. Like assholes.

by Anonymousreply 17March 28, 2022 2:48 AM

R17, was comedy dead when Lenny Bruce was arrested for the things he said? I swear, people have no perspective

by Anonymousreply 18March 28, 2022 2:49 AM

That was shocking. The Oscars = Source Awards.

by Anonymousreply 21March 28, 2022 2:49 AM

They shut off the sound for a lot of what was said. What did Chris Rock say back to him?

by Anonymousreply 22March 28, 2022 2:49 AM

It ruined the mood. Go do it backstage or something.

by Anonymousreply 23March 28, 2022 2:49 AM

It did because I got a few texts about it and no one was watching the show, but tuned in. I tuned right back out after the memoriam segment with singing and dancing.

I can’t tell if it was truly real though.

by Anonymousreply 24March 28, 2022 2:49 AM

America is so classy. LOL.

by Anonymousreply 25March 28, 2022 2:50 AM

I'm surprised no one on the DL made that joke first

I'm also shocked Jada didn't go up there herself, you know she could take him out

If he wins, it's going to get interesting. And what do the hosts say when they first come back out?

by Anonymousreply 29March 28, 2022 2:53 AM

Well, there's the marker for how low society has sunk. Thanks for thinking of the billions watching, Will. And the kids.

by Anonymousreply 30March 28, 2022 2:54 AM

Having been disrespected we are lucky Will didn't gun down Chris

by Anonymousreply 31March 28, 2022 2:54 AM

American society just gets trashier and trashier by the year. Shouldn't he be removed by security after punching the freaking host? Where is Steve Wilkos when you need him?

by Anonymousreply 32March 28, 2022 2:55 AM

Pop culture is now at rock bottom.

by Anonymousreply 33March 28, 2022 2:55 AM

I am legitimately shocked.

by Anonymousreply 34March 28, 2022 2:56 AM

This makes me like him more.

by Anonymousreply 35March 28, 2022 2:56 AM

Hee had to protect his beard. Even if she’s bald.

by Anonymousreply 36March 28, 2022 2:56 AM

I'm with Will Smith on this one - the joke was really inappropriate

by Anonymousreply 37March 28, 2022 2:56 AM

What is this bullshit

by Anonymousreply 38March 28, 2022 2:56 AM

This could be early dementia. He has been acting odd during the last few months.

by Anonymousreply 39March 28, 2022 2:57 AM

Whatever their sexual arrangement is I’m sure he cares deeply for her and good for him.

by Anonymousreply 40March 28, 2022 2:57 AM

Will is ghetto trash . I hope Rock Eviscerates him later

by Anonymousreply 41March 28, 2022 2:57 AM

Holy shit! That was the last thing I expected to happen at the Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 42March 28, 2022 2:58 AM

R35 and R37, so you condone violence as a response to disagreement about a comedic’s joke?

Jesus. No wonder American society is in complete devolvement.

by Anonymousreply 43March 28, 2022 2:59 AM

r13, if we were talking about Brandy, that'd be a valid observation. However, an image search for Jada shows she's worn various hairstyles over the years and hasn't stuck primarily to braids. Also, she has alopecia, which is an illness -- it's not stag 4 cancer, but it is an illness. It makes sense she'd be sensitive about it, especially if someone is making a joke about it at her expense in front of her peers and millions of people.

by Anonymousreply 44March 28, 2022 2:59 AM

Right or not, it was not the way to handle things. Swearing, assaulting people during a televised national event? What is this?

by Anonymousreply 45March 28, 2022 2:59 AM

[quote]An unusual move on Smith's part when there's a lot in his personal life that comedians might decide is no longer off-limits.

In the middle of will's tirade, Chris Rock said, "I could . . . . "

I think Chris was going to say, "I could say something" (about you or about your marriage"

by Anonymousreply 46March 28, 2022 2:59 AM

oh shit is will gonna punch jane campion now?

by Anonymousreply 47March 28, 2022 3:00 AM

Will Smith just committed a crime on tv for the entire world to see

by Anonymousreply 48March 28, 2022 3:00 AM

When a couple of guys who were up to no good

Started making trouble in my neighborhood

I got in one little fight and my mom got scared

She said, "You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air"

Word.

by Anonymousreply 51March 28, 2022 3:02 AM

That was far worse than you guys made it sound. Holy shit. What a douche!

by Anonymousreply 52March 28, 2022 3:03 AM

A punch is rarely appropriate, and certainly not in response to a joke, no matter how unkind. Jada’s support fraus need to get real.

by Anonymousreply 53March 28, 2022 3:03 AM

I felt the punch may have been staged but everything after, especially Chris's reaction after Will cussed him out, not so much.

by Anonymousreply 54March 28, 2022 3:03 AM

Here's an even better link with the joke and the punch

will smith is such fucking trash

by Anonymousreply 55March 28, 2022 3:03 AM

Looking at R50 makes me think Will Smith has rage issues or maybe a mental health issue. A more appropriate reaction would’ve been to take care of it off camera after the show. Then you can punch Chris Rock!

by Anonymousreply 56March 28, 2022 3:04 AM

Exactly

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 57March 28, 2022 3:04 AM

I wonder if Jada recently received news she has some very serious medical condition and they haven't released the news yet because Will is taking it so poorly and then this happened.

It's the only thing that would turn this around. I am not saying it's ok, I am talking from a public relations standpoint.

by Anonymousreply 58March 28, 2022 3:04 AM

R51 Which part of you - the stupid part?

by Anonymousreply 59March 28, 2022 3:05 AM

Chris just got a viscous face slapping

The Oscars are so ghetto now. No class or glamour. Just a Jerry Springer episode. Black people ruin everything. No wonder property values go down when they move. The ultra-liberals who support such behavior in the name of diversity won't even live near them.

by Anonymousreply 62March 28, 2022 3:05 AM

I don't think Chris Rock knew that she has alopecia. Jada is one arrogant, overbearing woman. Will Smith just ruined his big night.

by Anonymousreply 63March 28, 2022 3:06 AM

Amen!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 64March 28, 2022 3:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 65March 28, 2022 3:06 AM

The Smiths are all fucking weirdos.

When I was younger I used to look forward to the Oscars as a night of glamour and fun. The movies were about entertainment and escapism, and so were the Oscars.

I guess those days are gone. I am all for diversity and inclusion, we need more of it. But we also need people to behave with class. This show seems to be celebrating trashy behavior.

by Anonymousreply 69March 28, 2022 3:07 AM

The interesting thing was that Will Smith actually laughed at the joke while Jada was clearly unhappy. I'd love to see the few seconds where the laughter stopped and he charged on stage.

by Anonymousreply 70March 28, 2022 3:08 AM

R66, I don't agree, it's only Morrissey that's an asshole

by Anonymousreply 71March 28, 2022 3:08 AM

Fuck Will Smith. I'm out.

Acting like that, and then sitting there all smug through the rest of the ceremony, when he should be hiding in shame.

I've never liked him much, he's massively overrated as both an actor and a rapper, and he can go fuck himself forever.

I'll never pay a penny to see anything he's involved with ever again.

by Anonymousreply 72March 28, 2022 3:08 AM

Oh for fuck’s sake Will, it’s a vicious slapping accompanied buy a loud hiss.

by Anonymousreply 73March 28, 2022 3:08 AM

Again, it's not a disease. She has hair loss like millions of other people have hair loss.

by Anonymousreply 74March 28, 2022 3:08 AM

Didn’t Will get into a fight with someone when he was nominated for something else? He and Jada left and blamed it on a sick kid at home.

by Anonymousreply 75March 28, 2022 3:08 AM

R4 I didn't even get the joke. Did everyone realize he was talking about her hair? I thought he was joking about her butch persona.

by Anonymousreply 77March 28, 2022 3:09 AM

Thanks, Will Smith, for throwing the punch which finally downs the Oscars to the trashy level of Jerry Springer.

Sure your colleagues are thrilled to be brought down to that level.

by Anonymousreply 82March 28, 2022 3:09 AM

This has overtaken Ukraine in the news. Legitimately shocked.

by Anonymousreply 84March 28, 2022 3:10 AM

Chris Rock didn't know she had an illness. Can't be mocking if he didn't know.

by Anonymousreply 85March 28, 2022 3:11 AM

So comedians aren't allowed to make fun of people anymore?

by Anonymousreply 86March 28, 2022 3:11 AM

the world is so fucked up if Smith is tweeting through the whole thing

by Anonymousreply 87March 28, 2022 3:12 AM

R85 How the hell do you know? I doubt that.

by Anonymousreply 89March 28, 2022 3:12 AM

He owes Chris Rock an apology. This acceptance speech looks like more acting ... he is a fucking phony.

by Anonymousreply 90March 28, 2022 3:12 AM

I guess Will felt humiliated because this was his big night and Chris Rock ruined it. But I don't think Rock meant to do it. After all, Rock had a made a documentary about black women's hair if I remember correctly.

by Anonymousreply 91March 28, 2022 3:12 AM

Will Smith is trash for doing that in public. He knows it'll reflect badly on black people.

by Anonymousreply 92March 28, 2022 3:12 AM

Don't you wish now you had invited me to the show as Sean Penn wanted ?

by Anonymousreply 93March 28, 2022 3:12 AM

They're fucking cheering him. What a prick!

by Anonymousreply 94March 28, 2022 3:13 AM

Wow. Now he is going full blown messiah.

by Anonymousreply 95March 28, 2022 3:13 AM

R85 agreed but then you can't act all surprised if something you said gets the wrong reaction. I am absolutely 100% for mean jokes and un pc-ness but it's a risk you take, I'm sure that's not the first time Chris Rock had to deal with a face punch because of his jokes. He lives for that shit. And honestly, I like him all the more for it.

by Anonymousreply 96March 28, 2022 3:14 AM

I think the Hollywood power brokers will make Chris Rock apologize to Will Smith. They have to do something. This doesn't look good for Black Hollywood as they are both huge stars.

by Anonymousreply 97March 28, 2022 3:14 AM

Fuck your fake invoking the name of God and love. You have real anger issues.

by Anonymousreply 98March 28, 2022 3:14 AM

I cannot believe the trashy, smug guy is up there talking about having to “protect” people after punching/assaulting and screaming obscenities on live tv at the 2022 Oscars.

He is not a “vessel of love”.

He’s full of shit.

by Anonymousreply 99March 28, 2022 3:14 AM

R72 You're out? How will we go on without YOU, of all people!

by Anonymousreply 103March 28, 2022 3:15 AM

Did I just see GI Jane in the audience ?

by Anonymousreply 104March 28, 2022 3:16 AM

Can you imagine if, say, Sean Penn had gotten on stage and punched the host? We'd hear endless rants about him assaulting a black man, his white male privilege, and he'd be canceled forever. But Will Smith does it and gets an Oscar and a standing ovation. Such fucking bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 105March 28, 2022 3:16 AM

Talk about delusional!!

by Anonymousreply 106March 28, 2022 3:16 AM

R86, yes. And to think of some of the things that Ricky Gervais said at the Golden Globes.

The stuff he said to Mel Gibson - to his face - as he was standing on the same stage as him.

by Anonymousreply 107March 28, 2022 3:17 AM

Denzel does NOT look pleased. Will really fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 108March 28, 2022 3:17 AM

He should have his Oscar revoked.

He has clearly demonstrated the low caliber of his character.

Remember what happened to Russell Crowe as a result of his anger issues. It was said he lost out on awards as a result.

by Anonymousreply 110March 28, 2022 3:18 AM

I'm gonna punch a guy on live tv and get rewarded for it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the 2022 United States of America.

by Anonymousreply 111March 28, 2022 3:18 AM

Some of you bitches just can't wait to put on your hoods, can you.

by Anonymousreply 112March 28, 2022 3:18 AM

SO he punches the crap out of Rock, swears at him, all on live TV, as the idiot enablers around him act like it's normal, and now he's apologizing and talking about love.

by Anonymousreply 113March 28, 2022 3:18 AM

Looks like someone is having a meltdown, I hope he has some dolls at home. Wait… do those pep you up or calm you down?

by Anonymousreply 114March 28, 2022 3:19 AM

The Oscars are now full on BET awards. Hollywood is ovah.

by Anonymousreply 115March 28, 2022 3:19 AM

R108 Ok

by Anonymousreply 116March 28, 2022 3:19 AM

It's an undeserved Oscar. He got it for all the money he's raked in for the industry, and will hopefully continue to rake in. Period.

The movie was a total whitewash of what a shithead Richard Williams really was.

Yes, what he did in the world of tennis was remarkable, but he was still an insufferable asshole.

Smith's performance was serviceable at best. He didn't embarrass himself by any means, but he was nowhere near the level of most of his competition.

by Anonymousreply 118March 28, 2022 3:20 AM

He is defending the mother of his children rather than beating his lover in private like Sean Penn. that’s way more respectable.

by Anonymousreply 119March 28, 2022 3:20 AM

I'm stunned. Just stunned. How was he not dragged out of there and arrested?

by Anonymousreply 120March 28, 2022 3:20 AM

Scientology didn't work this evening Will??

I love this btw, they are both massive idiots. Hopefully this is the end of their totally undeserved careers.

by Anonymousreply 121March 28, 2022 3:20 AM

This is the type of crazy shit that used to happen at the VMAs every year, not the Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 122March 28, 2022 3:22 AM

The punch didn't look like it landed so I'm not sure if it was real. Regardless, if the Chris Rock jock was directed to another actress, Will Smith would have laughed. What a disgrace.

Smith is a comic, so I'm there's plenty of proof we'll find of him mocking others.

by Anonymousreply 123March 28, 2022 3:24 AM

I can't believe he's just sitting there, smiling and clapping like nothing happened.

by Anonymousreply 124March 28, 2022 3:24 AM

So unreal, Ricky Gervais would be lynched if everyone decides to assault comedian for their jokes.

by Anonymousreply 125March 28, 2022 3:24 AM

A black man acting like a violent piece of trash in front of millions of people. Way to fight those stereotypes, Will. I used to be a fan, I will not watch anything else he is in ever.

Piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 126March 28, 2022 3:25 AM

Damn. The assault and battery seen throughout the world!

SETTLEMENT! It's pay day, baby!

by Anonymousreply 127March 28, 2022 3:25 AM

I thought Will Smith was known for not swearing? That punch must have been a slap or light punch. Chris Rock is a smaller guy with a slight build, so the physics would indicate a different outcome than we saw. Also, Rock’s mouth looks full of expensive caps or veneers. These would probably have been damaged if Smith used any real force.

It’s a sad, disturbing clip.

Exactly, R92, and he did it in front of an international audience.

If he was that bothered he could have waited and talked to Rock afterwards instead of committing assault, this makes me wonder if there wasn't something else already bubbling under the surface - either between Smith & Rock or something else.

Here it is in slow motion.

by Anonymousreply 132March 28, 2022 3:27 AM

[quote] I'm stunned. Just stunned. How was he not dragged out of there and arrested?

Ditto, R120.

How he could then go up there and lie through his teeth above “love” and “God” after assaulting and screaming at someone is incomprehensible.

The fact that he wasn’t pulled immediately and instead given support/applause is tacit acknowledgement that violence is acceptable (also per other defenders here) and only puts others (comedians/people who disagree/etc) at risk.

This is sick. He is sick.

by Anonymousreply 133March 28, 2022 3:27 AM

what the hell was he talking about? having to "protect" the actors on the movie.... suppose to be a river of love because GOD wants him to be...

sobbing but yet not asking forgiveness or saying he was sorry to the person he just assaulted?

MY GOD THE AMOUNT OF NARCISSISM, AND SELF ABSORBTION AND SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS IS OFF THE CHARTS!.....LITERALLY DOESN'T THINK HIS SHIT STINKS!... HE IS THE REASON WHY MANY HATE HOLLYWOOD! PURE EXAMPLE OF THIS...

by Anonymousreply 134March 28, 2022 3:28 AM

by Anonymousreply 135March 28, 2022 3:28 AM

Would Will have done the same if the host was white? Gervais or Letterman for example? Hmmmm 🤔

by Anonymousreply 136March 28, 2022 3:28 AM

Let's not be dramatic, unless Chris lost a tooth, it's not a big deal. This is the best thing to ever happen on the Oscar's stage. Seriously I was snoozing through the whole thing up to that point.

by Anonymousreply 137March 28, 2022 3:28 AM

Word salad grandiose acceptance speech when he needed to be in a psych ward or jail at that moment

by Anonymousreply 155March 28, 2022 3:36 AM

This is exactly why I felt Laverne Cox was totally justified in not apologizing to Will and Jada. They put all their business out on front street but can't stand when someone even makes a joke about it! She knows they are full of it hence her refusal to bow down.

Will has been clearly suffering since Jada revealed her affair with the young man. Im black and Im so disappointed that he turned into the angry violent black man instead of getting a therapist to help him deal with those problems. Just like Jussie, totally making sure no one ever trusts a black man.

by Anonymousreply 156March 28, 2022 3:37 AM

I can't believe this is even being debated on Twitter. Yes, Rock made a tasteless joke, nearly all comedians do, but he didn't deserve to be assaulted. Assault is worse than a joke, 1000x worse.

I saw a few people who remained seated after Smith's speech. Good for them.

by Anonymousreply 160March 28, 2022 3:38 AM

Will Smith made non-stop jokes on Fresh Prince about his uncle's weight. I guess that's okay though.

[quote] Word salad grandiose acceptance speech when he needed to be in a psych ward or jail at that moment.

Absolutely, R155.

Smith completely degraded this Oscar event tonight.

by Anonymousreply 162March 28, 2022 3:38 AM

The thing which irritates me even more than the incident is the fact that Will and Jada are two of the biggest sanctimonious assholes in Hollywood - and who have raised a new generation with the same rotten traits. Thank god Will's oldest son was largely raised by his mother and not be Will and Jada. Tonight, people saw the real Will instead of the act he always puts on.

They're both CLOSET QUEENS

by Anonymousreply 183March 28, 2022 3:48 AM

Maybe there’s some history between Chris and Will that led to this

by Anonymousreply 184March 28, 2022 3:49 AM

Clairee is selling “I slapped Chris Rock” T shirts out of the back of her car in Chiquapin Parish.

by Anonymousreply 187March 28, 2022 3:53 AM

It's all about Will's ego, and it always has been.

It always has been. Even when he's been the #1 box office star in the US, and he's winning the biggest accolade the film industry can give him, his ego is so fragile it could not bear to hear his wife insulted. It had nothing to do with protecting his wife from any real harm; it had everything to do with protecting his own image.

And he blew it.

by Anonymousreply 188March 28, 2022 3:56 AM

I have to ask this question...if Will was white, he would have been escorted out of the Oscars and twitter would be out for his blood, right?

by Anonymousreply 189March 28, 2022 4:01 AM

The thing is, Will Smith and Chris Rock have known each other for decades. Chris Rock was on “Fresh Prince”.

So there must have been something deeper too.

by Anonymousreply 190March 28, 2022 4:02 AM

r189, try to imagine if Bob Hope had made a joke about Alfred Steele's weight, and the subsequent hard slapping Joan Crawford would have given him!

by Anonymousreply 191March 28, 2022 4:03 AM

Oh please, you know he wouldn't, R189. This isn't about race, it's about wealth and privilege. If this had happened at a school board meeting the dude would have been arrested, not reading last meetings minutes moments later.

by Anonymousreply 192March 28, 2022 4:03 AM

Still photos reveal Smith’s hand was open, so this interaction looks like a slap in the face. The yelling and swearing are pretty obnoxious and disgraceful. This whole mess is just confusing and sad.

Chris Rock was like a deer in headlights. I feel bad for him on so many levels. It looks so hard to be funny and edgy. Why would anyone even want to be a comedian? I know many comedians have stopped performing on college campuses. Stand-up feels like those 70’s TV specials where Evil Knievel would ride a motorcycle through a burning hoop.

by Anonymousreply 193March 28, 2022 4:06 AM

So many people thinking this was staged. It wasn't staged, obviously. Chris Rock could call the cops but you can't call the cops on black people at the Oscars, or anywhere else, it's unfashionable.

by Anonymousreply 194March 28, 2022 4:08 AM

I'm enjoying celebrity twitter totally confused on how to respond to this because they don't want to "pick the wrong side."

by Anonymousreply 195March 28, 2022 4:10 AM

TV media can't even decide on how to cover it yet. My local news station defaulted to Ukraine war and basketball instead of the usual Oscars reporter. Its so sad that Will Smith is that raging abusive family member that has the whole house shook

by Anonymousreply 196March 28, 2022 4:11 AM

So Jerry Springer is directing the Oscars.

To the poster upthread asking about a previous incident, yes, Will got into it with Ethan Hawke the year Denzel won for Training Day. Both were removed from the ceremony and Hawke had to BEG to attend the ceremony when he was nominated for Boyhood.

by Anonymousreply 214March 28, 2022 4:23 AM

by Anonymousreply 216March 28, 2022 4:23 AM

While I agree that Will should have probably waited until he was backstage or at an after party to make a fool of himself. I just find it hilarious at all the pearl clutching on here. It wasn't a White House State dinner, hell... it wasn't even the Kennedy Center Honors, it was the fucking Oscars. Calm down. If this is your idea of class and sophistication that is above reproach, then you don't know actors or you need to get out more. And one final note, Will and Jada are phonies who make it very hard to root for them on anything, but some of you are just too much with all this.

A) I don't think Jada has alopecia.

B) That wife has made a laughing stock of him for over 20 years with her bullshit and musings.

C) In his speech, he says that actors have to go through all of these humiliations. No - no they don't. You've been humiliated and made fun of because of your wife. SEE POINT B.

D) Shoving your talentless kids down our throats and having them talk about themselves like their the next coming of Jesus is nauseating and offputting. Again, SEE POINT B that allowed this shit to happen.

You've done this to yourself. And now, if he says he has never cheated on Jada - he should probably clarify that he never cheated on her WITH A WOMAN. Or it's some weird reference to their open marriage and swinging which was under her permission.

Dude - just shut the fuck up. Ain't nobody keeping you down or working against you - it's all coming from within your own DAMN HOUSE!

Punching a guy who at worst made a bad joke and yelling obscenities at him? Will Smith has displayed a new low in public decency. I find his behavior disgusting. Maybe he thought he’d upstage the disgusting grilling of judge Jackson by a bunch of snarling mostly white Jen, anything was game. Making fun of movies stars by Oscar hosts goes back to Bob Hope. I think Jada has ass cancer, can't prove it, but perhaps she's in chemo.

She's also worn white woman hairstyles her entire life which involve extensions, glue, tight braids, and are generally bad for your hair and scalp.

Obviously, this is the fault of white people, which induces rage. Say anything about black women's hair and it's a microaggression, say it on stage, and people lose their god damned minds, cementing the reality that black people on average are fucking crazy about certain topics.

I'm not saying white people are not crazy but you never saw a white person pull that shit on an awards show and then win the brass ring.

Judd Apatow© @JuddAp... 56m He could have killed him. That's pure out of control rage and violence. They've heard a million jokes about them in the last three decades. They are not freshman in the world of Hollywood and comedy. He lost his mind.

by Anonymousreply 279March 28, 2022 5:25 AM

I noticed that King Will and his consort Queen Jada were given the best seat in the house. They had the main throne.

And wasn't she the woman complaint about about 'OscarsSoWhite'?

by Anonymousreply 280March 28, 2022 5:25 AM

𝐉𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

Will and Jada's son Jaden Smith didn't reference the slap in his Twitter post, but he didn't speak out against it, tweeting, 'And That's How We Do It.'

Later, he included a photo of himself in a car wearing sunglasses and noted that his father's acceptance speech made him emotional.

'My Dads Speech Made Me Cry,' he wrote.

----------------------

Jimmy Kimmel

'What was the vegas line on the fresh prince punching little penny in the face?' he tweeted.

--------------------

Conan O'Brien

'Just saw the Will Smith slap. Anyone have a late night show i can borrow just for tomorrow?'

Nikki Glaser

'Open relationships seem healthy.'

[quote]He could have killed him. That's pure out of control rage and violence.

What the fuck? Apatow needs to get a grip. EVERYBODY needs to get a grip. You're spiraling out of control and turning this into "the same thing as murder," you're enraged and angry because someone else got enraged and angry.

by Anonymousreply 283March 28, 2022 5:27 AM

R208 Yep! I dashed to DL as soon as I heard about it!😅

by Anonymousreply 285March 28, 2022 5:33 AM

Accepting (or encouraging) physical violence as a response to speech is an indisputably fascist outlook.

The people who are “Team Will” remind me of the folks who thought that Wilkes-Barre guy was justified in executing two people in cold blood because they called him a queer.

Also funny to see how phony Will’s macho tough guy pose is—I doubt he’d have walked up to slap Dwayne Johnson or Jason Mamoa for making that joke.

by Anonymousreply 286March 28, 2022 5:35 AM

R280 Jada got her wish, and it will now be known as #oscarssoghetto

[quote]Chris Rock must press charges.

If Chris presses charges over a slap he received for insulting another man's wife, then he'll look like a wuss who doesn't stand behind his material. If it was worth making the joke, it was worth taking the consequences for it. He should laugh it off and make more jokes about that bitchslap and Will's histrionics.

by Anonymousreply 292March 28, 2022 5:41 AM

[quote]Accepting (or encouraging) physical violence as a response to speech is an indisputably fascist outlook.

There have been innumerable cases of when someone's right to free speech infringed on the rights of others, to the point that their speech needed to be stopped. Putin's propaganda and lies to cover the rape, murder, and kidnapping of Ukrainian citizens, for example.

I am absolutely not saying this about Chris Rock's joke. What I'm saying is that the broad stereotype of "all speech should be free from consequences regardless of what was said" is not a noble philosophy and it's not entire defensible. Bringing up your personal internet edgelord philosophy about free speech as though it were fact is ridiculous.

Academy Issues Statement After Will Smith-Chris Rock Oscars Slapping Incident

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 294March 28, 2022 5:44 AM

The Oscars are under the domain of SAG/AFTRA though, right? Rock should probably bring up the incident to them, he was at work and got injured, and he's union.

Everyone is screaming for jail time and heads served up on platters, but give it a few days to shake out. I'd guess Smith won't be back for next year's Oscars (at the request of the Academy) unless they have some kind of mea culpa planned to try to smooth things over.

by Anonymousreply 295March 28, 2022 5:44 AM

R265 he shouldn't be invited back next year just like Kanye and the Grammy's

by Anonymousreply 297March 28, 2022 5:53 AM

I must see who stood for that criminal. I was furious that the Pulp Fiction crew was rooting for him.

by Anonymousreply 298March 28, 2022 5:57 AM

And the Academy most certainly condones violence, if you sell enough movie tickets. We all saw it play out live tonight.

by Anonymousreply 299March 28, 2022 5:59 AM

I think Jada really should have just owned it, laughed, and made some 'strong arm' movements, to show how she's a bad ass, and that maybe could kick Chris Rock's ass too. That would have been the best way to handle it.

GI Jane is a hero in the movie, so why not act the hero in response to the joke? Take it as a compliment.

by Anonymousreply 300March 28, 2022 6:01 AM

I guess not everyone loves Chris.

by Anonymousreply 301March 28, 2022 6:02 AM

Jada is humorless. She takes herself and her limited amount of talent way too seriously.

by Anonymousreply 302March 28, 2022 6:02 AM

Because Chris Rock bitched about her incessantly in his 2016 Oscar stand-up, when she boycotted the Oscars. There was history there. He was either trying to refer back to one of his past "hits" or he was deliberately antagonizing her by going after her again.

by Anonymousreply 303March 28, 2022 6:03 AM

[quote]Judd Apatow© @JuddAp... 56m He could have killed him. That's pure out of control rage and violence.

by Anonymousreply 304March 28, 2022 6:03 AM

Yikes. What a water cooler moment.

Stupidly, because America is so racialized, this is raw meat (see this thread already). But condoning it is ridiculous--it's a mini version of honor-based, Hatfield-and-McCoy, Crips-vs-Bloods violence--you disrespect mine, I attack you.

I wonder how those people in the audience would've reacted if Mel Gibson had slapped Ricky Gervais.

by Anonymousreply 305March 28, 2022 6:05 AM

Who would have ever dreamed that one black man would slap another black man on stage at The Oscars?

by Anonymousreply 306March 28, 2022 6:09 AM

Well, there's a difference in context between the two, r305. Gibson had a history of being violent and making threats, for starters.

A lot of us aren't condoning it so much as getting exasperated at the people who are losing their shit about it, exaggerating what happened, making it political, using it as an excuse to be racist (like r306, who posted just as I was typing this).

Almost no one on DL is behaving like a decent, reasonable human being anymore. Everyone here is some low-intelligence, bigoted reactionary these days.

by Anonymousreply 307March 28, 2022 6:11 AM

Imagine if Will had leaped on stage and strangled Cris Rock to death with the train of Jada's hideous evening gown. "I'm sorry Will was recently taken away in handcuffs . . . accepting the award for him is. 2023 "In Memorium" Chris Rock followed by June Lockhart etc . . .

by Anonymousreply 308March 28, 2022 6:11 AM

by Anonymousreply 310March 28, 2022 6:15 AM

Probably why McDormand didn’t show up to give him the Oscar. She knew her friend Denzel was going to lose and didn’t want to deal with asshole Smith. I think a lot dislike or have no use for the Smiths in Hollywood, but he was able to overcome it in the vote tally because he’s made a lot of money for people in the industry and his nice guy persona with a cliched, sugar coated film about the Williams sisters father. That all changed tonight. This will be forever tied to his Oscar win. The one poster who said cunt Jada has him by the balls is absolutely correct. I’d never thought I’d live to see something so disgusting and disturbing on the Oscars. Thanks Will and Jada. Always keeping it classy.

by Anonymousreply 311March 28, 2022 6:18 AM

Apatow deleted his tweet. Most likely because he was called a hypocrite after someone mentioned James Franco assaulting Busy Phillips on the Freaks & Geeks set which Apatow probably witnessed it, was aware of it, and still made Franco into a star.

by Anonymousreply 315March 28, 2022 6:23 AM

I agree, R307, that some exaggerate and indulge in black-and-white thinking.

But you can't play down that he got up at the Oscars (where, at least in my lifetime, everyone has been well-behaved) and slapped the host and then angrily shouted at him as if in a drunken altercation outside a bar.

Sad that for all the talk of lack of Black presence in film and award nominations, and now an Oscars night that is chock full of talented Black people, it ended with violence, profanity, and what looks like, in Will Smith, an emotional breakdown. Sad because it gives fuel to bigots and will embarrass many in the Black community.

I long for the days when we are past racial divides and everyone can just be their authentic selves without fear of being targets of bullies. But, you have to admit, this Oscars had it all, including an elderly woman in a wheelchair in what appeared to be the early stages of dementia.

Black Americans have a huge presence in our culture, their influence in sports, music, language, literature, and other areas is profound. They are among the oldest of American groups, having been part of our history for over 400 years. They are only 13.4% of the US population but their impact is much larger. I'm sure Will Smith is in pain tonight, his tears revealed a troubled man. It has to feel terrible to have lost it in front of millions of people.

Chris Rock was off his game after the slap but he managed to keep going with professionalism and class.

by Anonymousreply 324March 28, 2022 6:42 AM

Real men punch.

Bitches slap.

by Anonymousreply 325March 28, 2022 6:43 AM

by Anonymousreply 339March 28, 2022 7:01 AM

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm still kinda shocked the amount of people on social media praising Will Smith for assaulting a guy who made a tacky joke about his wife. We've ALL wanted to assault someone over the years but most of us know we can't do it because it's a crime. When you're a celeb I guess things work differently though and apparently a lot of people think this is the way our society should go. Could you imagine if everyone could just punch someone when they or their spouse felt offended? 90% of the world would have busted up faces

by Anonymousreply 349March 28, 2022 7:14 AM

I am really discussed with the Academy. They should have escorted out Will Smith that instant. Is there any doubt that some theater worker had even gone on stage because Chris Rock made a joke about the staff that he would already be sitting in jail by now. The fact that they didn't back up Chris Rock is equally discussing. What happened to there zero tolerance bullshit about bulling?

They should at the very least strip Will of his Oscar, kick him out of SAG, and Chris should seriously rethink filing a police report. Will is richer than god, but facing some jail time in court might take him down a notch.

by Anonymousreply 350March 28, 2022 7:15 AM

[quote] They should at the very least strip Will of his Oscar, kick him out of SAG, and Chris should seriously rethink filing a police report.

Black privilege, American hypocrisy, black hypocrisy, etc.

I didn't realize Smith had said "fucking" until he sat down, and I could read his lips. I was kinda hoping Smith had said "shut your n*gger mouth" just for the spectacle of watching racist hypocrites tying themselves in major knots rationalizing/justifying Smith's outburst.

by Anonymousreply 355March 28, 2022 7:22 AM

[quore] Will is being supported by many because it is now a crime to say anything about a black woman's appearance or her hair.

Oh dear, I'm the one who thinks Beyonce wears a wig made in Sweden.

by Anonymousreply 356March 28, 2022 7:23 AM

I feel strangely traumatised by all of this (yes, I'm being dramatic). Strangely, it's not as much by the slap/hit as it is the way Smith yelled and swore afterward, and then doubled down and did the same thing. It was like he was possessed. It was scary. On one hand, I feel bad for the guy, because he's going through something. On the other hand, you're filthy rich, have had access to everything for decades, and you were widely predicted to win (and won) a major award in your industry just minutes away. You couldn't manage a little class? Chris Rock was making jokes about people in the room (something that humourless industry needs more of), including Smith's wife. Do we honestly think he would have made the joke had he known about Jada's condition? I doubt it.

I've been watching the Oscars for decades. I'm pretty invested, which is why I can't oddly stop thinking about this. This has certainly given us something to talk about. I know they have been circling the drain for a while, but this may have just expedited things. This event was just a sad reminder of that reality. But, Hollywood will defend Smith's petulance, I imagine.

by Anonymousreply 357March 28, 2022 7:23 AM

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐬

In 2016, Chris Rock hosted the Academy Awards, where both Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, were the butts of some pointed barbs. Rock made fun of Pinkett Smith’s public avowal to boycott the show after another year of all-white acting nominees.

“Jada said she’s not coming. I was like, ‘Isn’t she on a TV show?’ Jada’s gonna boycott the Oscars? Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited!”

by Anonymousreply 358March 28, 2022 7:25 AM

Yeah, he was absolutely scary r357 when he went back to his chair. It's like he was triggered by something.

by Anonymousreply 360March 28, 2022 7:26 AM

So the Academy has been losing buckets of money the last few years because viewers have dropped off the cliff. I am sure this little accident is no doubt going to give them that viral moment they have been dreaming about. But it will backfire. No one is talking about who won what awards. Even the media trying desperately to remind people it was about more than a fight talking about the rest of the night just falls on deaf ears.

Well congratulation Hollywood, you go the attention you wanted. Of course you traded your social status and class for Jerry Springier style label you will now forever be known for but hey, money is money and that's all you ever cared about anyway right? So just own it. Be the ghetto trash kind of show you are now.

You lost the worlds respect the instant the reward physical violence on stage with an award. Well done. Now everyone can point to this forever as a reason to never take your claims of social injustice seriously ever again when you fail to do something about it in your own house.

by Anonymousreply 361March 28, 2022 7:28 AM

R357, Maybe Chris did know about her condition and still joked about it. So what? It is not like she has cancer/chemo or something. And if they are that sensitive about her bald head, wear a wig.

by Anonymousreply 362March 28, 2022 7:28 AM

The whole thing was staged. It was like watching the WWF or something. Chris Rock is a homophobic moron so I would love to see him get owned though.

That's why they should be at home cooking, cleaning and taking care of kids instead of trying to be in the work place where they don't belong. Women who still think it's "refreshing" for men to commit violence on their behalf are the reason they will never be paid equally in the workforce. You want equal pay? The HOOD? This was Will Smith who has been to so many of these events without incident. I'm still stunned. People trying to say he was "going through" something. Honey, we're all going through something all the time. If he was super angry and rage-y and offended and triggered, I get that. People feel that way. Still, people control themselves.

I'm not really sure people are giving him a pass because he's black. There's been criticism from a broad spectrum. If anything, I do think the criticism, while rightfully serious, would have been even MORE heightened if Chris Rock were not a black man himself. Basically for those who think the racial angle is "Will's not being vilified enough because he's black," I'd argue that it's really "Will Smith isn't being vilified enough because the victim was a fellow Black man." And one he has history with.

THough who knows. There's criticism/vilification for the actual hit/violence. Which doesn't necessarily correlate directly with the criticism/vilification of the spectacle - doing it on stage, at the Oscars, live.

Smith LAUGHED at the joke. It's on tape. Then Jada SCOWLED. A performative SLAP followed. And finished with a RAGING fucking outburst in front of a room of peers.

There's no justification for violence. No justification for assault. ESPECIALLY OVER A FUCKING JOKE.

But look at Woke Twitter and you'll see the little shithead mobs defending it over her "illness" and "alopecia". Give me a fucking break. It's not a death sentence, or particularly uncommon. ALL bald men suffer from a form of it, yet those jokes are open season. I hope Rock makes a meal out of this.

by Anonymousreply 387March 28, 2022 7:53 AM

Will and Smith were treated like the King (Richard) and Queen of the Oscars tonight.

They were better feted than Beyonce and Jay-Z who always get the premium treatment.

And yet, they basically changed the whole tone of the evening.

by Anonymousreply 388March 28, 2022 7:56 AM

Also -- what was with all the 'Oscar' bumper screen cutaways during Smith's acceptance speech?

I wonder if it was multiple cameras pointed at various celebrities who either were flipping him the bird, turning away, or something dismissive??

by Anonymousreply 389March 28, 2022 7:56 AM

I would like to thank the Academy for the prestigious award after my violent attack of another member on stage in front of millions of people. I knew Hollywood was color blind all these years because the only color that truly matters to you green.

by Anonymousreply 390March 28, 2022 7:56 AM

Classic Scientology anger, and misdirected as usual. Also, what a dainty pussy for "slapping". If you are going to hit someone, hit them.

Chris Rock has said he won't press charges. Not surprised, but that's unfortunate. That Smith cunt needs to give his Oscar back.

Tacky, tacky, tacky and TRASHY. I don't care WHAT condition his wife has and since when does he really care?. She can speak up for herself, as we've all seen. This was fucking piss poor and I hope to see the last of this rat fucker clam.

by Anonymousreply 391March 28, 2022 7:58 AM

I don't know about Twitterverse, but on Youtube Chris Rock is being celebrated for being such a man about it.

Compared to silkier hair African-American hair contains more lipids, or fats, but the lipids are less bonded which is why the hair loves oils so much.

the fact that this incident happened and then the show carried on with the assaulter winning an award later on shows what a joke all these award shows are and should never be taken seriously again

I only watch the music award shows for the live performances. The awarding of people for being entertainers has always seemed silly and pointless to me.

the 1 positive out of this is knocking down the prestige of the oscars altogether

by Anonymousreply 414March 28, 2022 8:34 AM

Damn, now I wish Liza had hobbled up on stage and bitch slapped Ellen for calling her a drag queen.

by Anonymousreply 415March 28, 2022 8:35 AM

Clearly, Will was out of line with his reaction. Also think he was on edge given that he was the front runner who was expected to win. It doesn't mean anything until they actually call your name. It's sad to think that he will always be remembered for this meltdown on live television after working so hard to get the award that meant so much to him.

How does Jada look like Tanya Robert’s now? What is going on here?

by Anonymousreply 418March 28, 2022 8:38 AM

Was Jada supporting Jussie? She is our new moral center and yes I said it, royal queen of Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 419March 28, 2022 8:42 AM

This is why I stopped watching the show years ago. I woke up one day and realized what a wast of time to spend thinking about rich people patting themselves on the back over and over while acting like selfish idiots with the emotional maturity of a 12 year old. I only found out about this after coming here to the DL.

So I think in a too little too late shallow attempt to save face, the Academy will clamp down next year making it the most boring show ever. You cant top that Jerry Springer moment. They will continue to lose millions of viewers like they have the last few years.

by Anonymousreply 420March 28, 2022 8:45 AM

Christ almighty, every nominee in that room is ON EDGE. And has been for every Oscar telecast since its inception. I've seen this justification on Twitter too and it's complete horseshit. Will summoned a level of rage that was borderline mental. Especially since he LAUGHED initially.

Inexcusable, TOXIC behavior.

by Anonymousreply 421March 28, 2022 8:46 AM

Will went all Rick James on Chris' face. Didn't even bust a lip.

What did the five fingers say to the face?

This! [SLAP!]

(Also, I think Will was laughing at the series of jokes and was still laughing as CR said the GI Jane thing. He couldn't stop the second CR started with J, I don't think he actually laughed at that. So awkward all around.)

That's fine r351, and thank you for the information, but my point stands. Not that long ago, DL would be full of jokes about this, because Will Smith smacking Chris Rock on live TV is fucking hilarious.

No one on DL jokes anymore, though. There are no jokes. There's nothing but trolls trying to turn this into a crime of epic proportions ("he could have been killed! Chris Rock was as defenseless as someone in a wheelchair!") while also being as racist as possible ("black ghetto thug n*ggers are ruining the Oscars, we must make them all white again!").

Earlier in this thread someone joked "Even at a Dean Martin roast, people weren't getting slapped!" and he got scolded by people grimly informing him that THIS IS NOT A ROAST, which was just another way of saying THIS IS NOT FUNNY, HOW DARE YOU.

Then when Will Packer made a snide joke about it, it happened again. HOW DARE HE, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE TO JOKE ABOUT.

It's not unacceptable to joke about, it's fucking hilarious, and because all of you grim, humorless, nasty trolls want us to be outraged, you won't let us laugh about it. You'll whine incessantly about SJWs not letting people make jokes anymore, but you're doing the exact same fucking thing.

Will Smith is going to get away with this for ONE single reason. The fact that Chris Rock did not return the slap. If he did, the situation would have been unsalvageable for Smith. But now this will be all swept under the rug.

by Anonymousreply 480March 28, 2022 10:28 AM

It was a silly GI Jane joke, not something anybody should get the least bit upset over. It wasn't mean or hurtful or even in bad taste. Will Smith is thin skinned and childish. And this fucker won best actor and the proceeded equate his character Richard Williams protecting his family to justify that he was protecting his family. From what? A dumb joke?

People are now going to argue that Hollywood and the Academy Awards has twisted itself into a pretzel to make itself more inclusive over the last several years, and this is the behavior we have to expect from those getting nominated. Will Smith is trashy and having spent over 30 years in Hollywood hasn't changed his in any substantive ways. If he was armed would he have shot Chris Rock like a rap gangsta?

by Anonymousreply 481March 28, 2022 10:31 AM

That meme of the shocked faces was not from last night it was when Warren and Faye screwed up Best Picture.

by Anonymousreply 494March 28, 2022 10:47 AM

The fact that people are attempting to normalize violence because a rich, black man perpetrated it for an audience of millions on live tv in America is revolting.

As someone else pointed out, the fact that the man who carried out the violence was immediately thereafter celebrated and acknowledged with a standing ovation, and he carried on partying! is no different than the violent outbursts exhibited at political rallies, egged and abetted by certain fascist political candidates in the USA’s recent history.

Following the #MeToo era, the Academy adopted a code of behaviour for its recipients. Will Smith’s violent behaviour at the VERY ceremony where he was promptly then awarded an Oscar violated that code.

Thus, his Oscar can be revoked. And it should be. If the Academy does not address this, then they are hypocritical liars, and they deserve to be completely debased.

As does Will Smith. His actions at the 2022 Oscars were appalling. He overshadowed other people at the event and made it all about HIM and his fragile masculinity.

by Anonymousreply 495March 28, 2022 10:49 AM

The only thing missing is a 6’4” bald security guy jumping between them.

by Anonymousreply 496March 28, 2022 10:49 AM

I know, those pictures of reactions are old, those people aren't even there

by Anonymousreply 497March 28, 2022 10:49 AM

I didn't watch king Richard and won't pay to watch anything he's in from now on.

by Anonymousreply 498March 28, 2022 10:51 AM

Will Smith is a cuck, and his bitch of a wife tried to destroy a Youtuber's life because he dared mock the humorless bitch for pimping out her then small children for fame.

by Anonymousreply 499March 28, 2022 10:52 AM

Meanwhile Jada will continue to suck dicks and get fucked on the side. Probably a decent, respectable woman wouldn't be defended like that. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 500March 28, 2022 10:54 AM

The Grammies have been a trash-fest for quite a while, so this was to be expected.

by Anonymousreply 501March 28, 2022 10:55 AM

[quote] I’m so over this racist, conservative forum. It’s irredeemable at this point

I’m so over people using the amount of melanin in their skin as an excuse to perpetrate vile behaviour.

The pendulum has swung so far that under the threat of “racism”, people feel Jussie-fied to do all sorts of unacceptable things. They Will attempt to get away with violent, vicious actions and then point the finger at those who call them out.

Enough.

by Anonymousreply 502March 28, 2022 11:01 AM

Keep my wife's name outya fucking mouth!

Oh, the red line has been crossed.

Hey Will, keep ya wife's bisexual pussy outa lesbians mouths.

by Anonymousreply 503March 28, 2022 11:02 AM

I thought it was staged right up until the moment Will said “fucking”

by Anonymousreply 504March 28, 2022 11:03 AM

What does Sally Fields think about this crazy debacle?

by Anonymousreply 505March 28, 2022 11:03 AM

The way he yelled after he sat down again to me was more disturbing than the slap. He sounded unhinged. His actions were unacceptable for the place he was in.

by Anonymousreply 506March 28, 2022 11:03 AM

Oh my, the way Denzel talks lol...the devil comes for you when you're at your highest or some such shit.

He did it to himself!!! Take some fucking responsibility. This is why the world is fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 507March 28, 2022 11:04 AM

Jada was fucking Jaden’s friend. Will’s anger has a misdirected.

by Anonymousreply 508March 28, 2022 11:05 AM

Will Smith has Denzel Disease.

He is the savior of black acting.

He needs MORE therapy.

by Anonymousreply 509March 28, 2022 11:05 AM

Over on Facebook conservative America praised Will for defending his “property “….

by Anonymousreply 510March 28, 2022 11:05 AM

Some people are so stupid and still think this was staged

by Anonymousreply 511March 28, 2022 11:06 AM

Here’s why this is good

by Anonymousreply 512March 28, 2022 11:08 AM

I read that will went to the jungle to get high when he was having problems with Jada. He took that plant that gives you that lsd effect.

by Anonymousreply 513March 28, 2022 11:09 AM

#OscarsSoViolent

by Anonymousreply 514March 28, 2022 11:09 AM

Defending Will Smith means you're 1) pandering to what you think is politically correct; 2) think that there's an honor code dictating that a bad joke about one's wife means you must resort to violence.

by Anonymousreply 515March 28, 2022 11:13 AM

Chris isn't pressing charges....he should.

by Anonymousreply 516March 28, 2022 11:14 AM

In slow motion it looks completely fake.

by Anonymousreply 517March 28, 2022 11:17 AM

I wonder if Iron Dyke ordered him to do it?

by Anonymousreply 518March 28, 2022 11:18 AM

Every one of the Smiths are fucking awful. If ever there needed to be a family who needed to be offed for the good of America, they is it.

[quote]If ever there needed to be a family who needed to be offed for the good of America, they is it.

Dude! How can you say that?

(when the Kardashians still exist!)

R520

You must be a Trump supporter.

by Anonymousreply 521March 28, 2022 11:29 AM

The low IQ magats and trump supporters on SM have praised Will Smith…yikes

by Anonymousreply 522March 28, 2022 11:29 AM

The Kardashians is only about 10% the annoying anal wart on America's ass that the Smiths are. I would choose the K's every time over the horrible Smiths. And fuck off with your Trump garbage, psychotic cunts. Every day until you cunts die, it will always be them. Fucking psychotic garbage.

by Anonymousreply 523March 28, 2022 11:31 AM

People aren't bothered by Regina Hall's joke about LeBron James' hair, why are they bothered by Rock's joke about Jada's hair?

by Anonymousreply 524March 28, 2022 11:31 AM

Lipstick Alley is thrilled with Will for defending black women.

by Anonymousreply 525March 28, 2022 11:32 AM

Not to worry, I was just having a joke with you, my man (R524).

by Anonymousreply 526March 28, 2022 11:32 AM

[quote] Well I guess we can be happy Chris didn’t say anything mean about Meghan Markle, so Prince Harry didn’t have to defend her by assaulting him.

by Anonymousreply 527March 28, 2022 11:33 AM

Too bad it wasn’t a white actor who slapped Chris Rock. Then we could have all been treated to an endless media frenzy about privilege.

by Anonymousreply 528March 28, 2022 11:35 AM

Chris Rock could have made jokes about Sparkle's chicken legs. That would have brought down the house. Her legs are actual toothpicks.

by Anonymousreply 529March 28, 2022 11:35 AM

by Anonymousreply 532March 28, 2022 11:40 AM

[quote]Making fun of someone being bald because of an autoimmune disorder is not funny.

I'm genuinely curious, do we know if it is due to an autoimmune disorder or is it traction alopecia?

by Anonymousreply 533March 28, 2022 11:41 AM

R530, someone said they’d seen better legs dangling over the side of a nest. She’s so proud of them, too.

by Anonymousreply 534March 28, 2022 11:41 AM

She doesn't have alopecia. Girl just died her hair too many times. She is 100% a fraud, which is redundant to say as she is also a Scientologist.

by Anonymousreply 535March 28, 2022 11:41 AM

Why did some special people get cocktail seating at the Oscars?

by Anonymousreply 536March 28, 2022 11:42 AM

The incident just illustrates Chris Rock's old "black people vs. niggers" routine.

by Anonymousreply 537March 28, 2022 11:42 AM

R534, only her hairdresser know for sure.

by Anonymousreply 538March 28, 2022 11:42 AM

Will owes Dana an apology as well.

r537, without the Golden Globes dinner, it made the Oscars more intimate.

by Anonymousreply 540March 28, 2022 11:45 AM

If it was so hard to deal with short hair, Jada could have worn a wig. Black women adore wigs.

by Anonymousreply 541March 28, 2022 11:47 AM

Smith didn’t “knock the shit out of” Chris Rock. He slapped him.

Telling that his defenders have to big it up and make it seem more macho.

by Anonymousreply 546March 28, 2022 11:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 547March 28, 2022 11:55 AM

I didn't know Will Smith was in this thread. I know you've had a rough night, man, but pace yourself R536/R547.

by Anonymousreply 548March 28, 2022 11:57 AM

Someone on Twitter (don’t remember who) was there and said that Denzel actually gave Will a pretty stern talking to during the commercial break and warned him about his behavior and language.

by Anonymousreply 549March 28, 2022 11:57 AM

That was Kidman.'s reaction.

by Anonymousreply 550March 28, 2022 11:58 AM

R549 Nice deflection on being an unfunny "oh, dear" troll. Drink some bleach, dear.

by Anonymousreply 551March 28, 2022 12:00 PM

Smith showing up at after parties reinforces his belief that he can do whatever he wants. Not leaving the theater after showing his ass to the world meant he didn't think what he did was anything that needed to be addressed. Ditto returning to the stage to accept the award. Ditto attending parties. Hey, just another award winning night by an A lister.

It's this nonchalant attitude that is disturbing. I know I'm in a minority.

by Anonymousreply 552March 28, 2022 12:01 PM

R548 that was the envelope fuck up year, not last night. The only audience reaction I’ve seen is Nicole’s.

by Anonymousreply 553March 28, 2022 12:02 PM

R506...."They don't like each other. They REALLY don't like each other."

by Anonymousreply 554March 28, 2022 12:02 PM

Well, I guess instead of the train station like last year, they should have held this year’s Oscars in a boxing ring.

by Anonymousreply 555March 28, 2022 12:04 PM

An assault happened with millions of witnesses. Surely Chris Rock doesn't have to 'press charges' for something to happen?

by Anonymousreply 556March 28, 2022 12:05 PM

I can’t decide what to think of this until I read Sarah Silverman’s opinion.

by Anonymousreply 557March 28, 2022 12:06 PM

Right, shouldn’t someone be able to make a citizen’s arrest based in witnessing a crime.

by Anonymousreply 558March 28, 2022 12:06 PM

The assault was beyond acceptable. And shouting obscenities from your seat at a public, internationally televised event that is not all about you is one of the worst examples of the decline of civilization.

by Anonymousreply 559March 28, 2022 12:07 PM

The only pictures from the Oscars I wanted to wake up to this morning are Will Smith’s mug shot.

by Anonymousreply 560March 28, 2022 12:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 561March 28, 2022 12:10 PM

It was simply a slap, hardly an assault.

by Anonymousreply 562March 28, 2022 12:10 PM

Shouldn’t Will be slapping the person actually screwing his wife ?

by Anonymousreply 563March 28, 2022 12:11 PM

R555 Fields approves of that joke.

by Anonymousreply 564March 28, 2022 12:11 PM

God made him do it. It was out of love for his family to fiercely protect them...yada, yada. It should have been resolved after the show, off screen.

by Anonymousreply 565March 28, 2022 12:12 PM

The slap heard ‘round the world, well unless you’re in the United States that feels the need to extensively censor stuff like this because we are to puritanical to hear some “shits” and “fucks.”

by Anonymousreply 566March 28, 2022 12:13 PM

r553, or it was staged. Maybe not the slap (although I think it's possible) but the confrontation.

So he won an Oscar for playing a wifebeater in a biopic Hollywood turned into a Woke black rags to riches story, & everyone's OK with that, but you're not OK with a probably staged slap between two adult men?

by Anonymousreply 567March 28, 2022 12:15 PM

Shouldn’t he at least be fined by the FCC for swearing, didn’t Charlie Rocket get a huge fine when he said Fuck on SNL?

by Anonymousreply 568March 28, 2022 12:15 PM

[quote]I know I shouldn't be, but I'm still kinda shocked the amount of people on social media praising Will Smith for assaulting a guy who made a tacky joke about his wife.

The same people who will rend their metaphorical garments on Twitter when young men kill for the crime of being "dissed."

by Anonymousreply 569March 28, 2022 12:17 PM

[quote]Clearly, Will was out of line with his reaction. Also think he was on edge given that he was the front runner who was expected to win.

I wasn't a slap slap.

by Anonymousreply 574March 28, 2022 12:25 PM

This certainly doesn't tarnish Will Smith's reputation as being an insufferable asshole.

by Anonymousreply 575March 28, 2022 12:25 PM

It wasn't a slap slap.

by Anonymousreply 576March 28, 2022 12:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 580March 28, 2022 12:34 PM

Op, he didn’t ‘knock the shit out’ of anyone. T’was a mere slap.

I play rougher with my trades

by Anonymousreply 581March 28, 2022 12:39 PM

Would have been more acceptable to y’all if Jada got on stage and kicked in Regina Hall’s cunt?

by Anonymousreply 582March 28, 2022 12:40 PM

Go on, R582

by Anonymousreply 583March 28, 2022 12:40 PM

Will is already being excused. He and Chris will probably be made to do a little public make-up, and then a cute routine at next year's Oscars.

Doesn't change the fact that it was a disgusting trash display and everyone saw it.

by Anonymousreply 584March 28, 2022 12:42 PM

What if Wanda Sykes has been the one to say that joke?

And, I hope Jada realizes that she has to stay bald the rest of her life now even though she's lying about having alopecia.

by Anonymousreply 585March 28, 2022 12:42 PM

I hope Chris Rock gets millions from this, he can say he's suffering from the emotional distress, the anxiety of potential future attacks from audience members whenever he has to do stand up etc. He's traumatized!

If he's smart, he's calling his lawyer now.

by Anonymousreply 586March 28, 2022 12:44 PM

he reveals himself to be utter trash.

he makes his parents look bad, his race, his everything.

by Anonymousreply 587March 28, 2022 12:45 PM

He won’t get millions from a mere slap. Don’t be silly. R587

by Anonymousreply 588March 28, 2022 12:47 PM

R101 From the gal who held up the bloody severed head of the president, but Kathy does make a good point.

by Anonymousreply 589March 28, 2022 12:49 PM

Of course he will! R589, it was the humiliation and attack seen all over the world! He's traumatized! He can't perform now! he's afraid now!

He will also make a statement where he "forgives" will in exchange.

Chris should make this asshole pay thru the nose.

Smith is loaded, a few million is chump change to him.

He gifted some actor 5 million dollars when that actor was going thru a hard time.

by Anonymousreply 590March 28, 2022 12:50 PM

[quote]Shouldn’t he at least be fined by the FCC for swearing, didn’t Charlie Rocket get a huge fine when he said Fuck on SNL?

I think FCC might be a bit laxed these days compared to the time Rocket was on SNL. Jenny Slate dropped an F bomb on SNL and wasn't fined by FCC due to some kind of clause regarding TV shows that air after 10 pm having less strict rules to adhere to.

by Anonymousreply 591March 28, 2022 12:51 PM

Several different things going on here.

First of all, to the racists who’ve infested this board, who’ve used this as an excuse to post their vile, disgusting (and usual) remarks: fuck off. Fuck right off. You’ve never been welcome here. You’re shit that’s learned to breathe and walk; but you’re still stinking of the shit you’re made from.

Secondly, what Will Smith did. Totally unacceptable, and what a bunch of craven sycophants were in the audience, not calling him out. It was a joke. If you don’t like the joke, heckle or walk out. Nobody has the right to walk up and physically assault the comedian. It’s set a truly nasty precedent, and the organisers should’ve sent in security to escort Will Smith and party out of the event, with no re-admittance. The audience should’ve turned on him: verbally and not physically, in case I need to say that. The organisers should’ve refused to present an award to him, even if it meant going on stage and saying ‘due to events this evening, we have cancelled the category’. And, yes, he should’ve been arrested for assault.

Thirdly, the utter hypocrisy of Will Smith. Hiding behind his god. A god whose message was ‘turn the other cheek’, not ‘slap the comedian’s face’. Claiming to stand up for his family and defend them, like some 50s White suburban heterosexual, putting the little lady firmly in the kitchen. His wife has agency, she’s capable of standing up for herself, she doesn’t need a man to do it for her. And let’s not forget that this makes Will Smith the bully: standing behind the ‘prestige’ he might have as a money spinner for White Hollywood, to get away with conduct that should be acknowledged as unforgivable. And bullying, and unmanly (if you like) to pick on someone who’s hardly going to start a fist fight anyway, and to give them a big girly slap before flouncing off, smirking.

What an appalling evening. Just shameful.

by Anonymousreply 592March 28, 2022 12:52 PM

what the fuck was bradley cooper saying to will smith?

I want to know.

by Anonymousreply 593March 28, 2022 12:52 PM

I hate that it's so hard not to see this through a racist lens

by Anonymousreply 594March 28, 2022 12:53 PM

#staged is trending on Twitter. Everyone knows the slap was faked/staged.

by Anonymousreply 595March 28, 2022 12:54 PM

R553 You're not alone. We live in a time when people are not being punished for bad behavior. Of course it's empowering.

by Anonymousreply 596March 28, 2022 12:55 PM

Joy Reid is a racist cunt, R345. She'll blame White people. Like she always does.

Also, why do so many of you not understand that the purpose of a slap is to humiliate the target by making him look like a bitch?

by Anonymousreply 597March 28, 2022 12:58 PM

R598's mother was a black whore and her father was her sibling and pimp. She knows this shit well.

by Anonymousreply 598March 28, 2022 1:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 599March 28, 2022 1:03 PM

r595, it isn't hard at all.

by Anonymousreply 600March 28, 2022 1:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 602March 28, 2022 1:04 PM
