Will Smith knocked the shit out of Chris Rock - Part 3

Here’s a proper thread three. Previous thread below.

by Anonymousreply 45April 3, 2022 7:05 PM

If nothing else, Smith should have been removed from the audience. Put him backstage. Hope he leaves on his own. The fact that he went right back to his seat after winning is telling. He wasn't risking going off camera.

by Anonymousreply 1April 1, 2022 1:23 PM

I know it is said there are industry people on DL, so please comment & educate me.

Hollywood is a business, I get that. No money no movie.

I have heard that all the big money in Hollywood these days is about the Chinese market.. How does this incident play with the Chinese money? Is it a total turn off to them? They certainly censor & suppress much & have major issues with divergence & dispute.

Or is it appealing as voyeurism. Sort of a modern blackface show but having real black people in real time humiliate themselves? So, give us more of the same. Who cares about art, just give us the money, we'll humiliate whoever, however, whenever.

by Anonymousreply 2April 1, 2022 1:41 PM

Seems like Chris Rock asked them not to do that and wanted the show to go on. He did not want to press charges. Even after what Will Smith did, Chris Rock protected him.

Not that he cares, but Chris Rock has my respect for the way he handled the situation.

Unlike Will Smith and Jada with their talk of enlightenment and love, Chris Rock is the real deal, not a phony like them.

by Anonymousreply 3April 1, 2022 1:48 PM

I hope Will Packer never works on another awards show.

by Anonymousreply 4April 1, 2022 2:06 PM

And I hope Whoopi’s sickening defense of Smith on The View causes Disney/ABC (which also produced the Oscars) leads to her not being brought back in September.

by Anonymousreply 5April 1, 2022 4:13 PM

Chris Rock is smart to stay quiet. Every day more info comes out that makes Will and Jada look worse. It doesn't pay for Rock to get petty since the tide is turning in his favor.

by Anonymousreply 6April 1, 2022 4:19 PM

R6 I bet Chris knows there's dirt out there on Will and Jada and people might start talking like Paul Rodriguez did.

by Anonymousreply 7April 1, 2022 5:38 PM

Wasn't Packer supposed to do an interview this morning? I haven't seen anybody talking about it, did it not happen?

by Anonymousreply 8April 1, 2022 5:53 PM

From the previous thread- Jodie is at the forefront of the Hollywood Power Lesbians, and you do not fuck with them.

If Rock really wanted to get them, he could have joked about how Will already has his shiny Oscar, sitting right next to him.

by Anonymousreply 9April 1, 2022 6:24 PM

[quote]Chris Rock is smart to stay quiet.

Indeed. He took the hit and the abuse, responded with composure, and now we learn he prevented Smith from being led away by security. An already explosive situation could have gone nuclear.

Rock just needs to allow Smith and his enablers to spin the unspinnable, and sit back to await more kudos. He'll be canny not to overplay his hand in front of those sell-out crowds - who'll surely be expecting a big bang for their big bucks.

If he handles this white-hot material obliquely, it could be comedy gold. He already has the sane world on his side. Rock could emerge smelling of bouquets of roses.

by Anonymousreply 10April 1, 2022 6:27 PM

Rock is very smart and very canny. I am sure he'll do an amazing bit on this down the line.

And I hope every comedian on the planet burns the Smiths humorlessness until the end of time.

by Anonymousreply 11April 1, 2022 6:40 PM

One or all of the Smith need to do faux suicide drama routine VERY public, very pitiful, very loud. Great way to turn this shit around.

by Anonymousreply 12April 1, 2022 6:50 PM

If only Jada went along with the joke. She should have stood up and flexed her muscles or given Chris Rock a thumbs up. I bet some producer would have thought it would be a great idea to do a GI Jane 2 with Jada. No one is looking for her and maybe this would have been a vehicle for her instead of her podcast that no one listens to.

She didn't play her cards the right way. Instead she played the victim of some non-life threatening medical condition and it's questionable that she even has it. And her husband has been exposed as a cuck with anger issues whose career may be (hopefully) over .

by Anonymousreply 13April 1, 2022 6:56 PM

Will Packer is being exposed as quite the liar. Chris Rock was apparently not asked if Will Smith should be escorted out of the auditorium.

by Anonymousreply 14April 1, 2022 7:43 PM

To this moron:

[quote]Race has everything to do with why Smith sat back down, was not ejected from the theatre, and went around town partying afterwards.

Race is the only reason a pos adulterer accused of sexual assault of more than 20 women, accused of raping a 12 yo girl, a bigoted, racist, white scumbag was the president before Biden. You think someone black could get away with being a bag of shit like Trump? Could be a thief, a rapist and all-around low-life and become PRESIDENT?

Amazing how you idiots turn a blind eye to how many times white people have not only gotten away with repugnant behavior, but criminal behavior and still get to ascend to fucking power even when it's KNOWN what vile scum they are.

by Anonymousreply 15April 1, 2022 8:12 PM

BTW, I say the above being disgusted by what Will Smith did. Fuck him, but fuck you racist cockroaches who look for every opportunity to be a trashbag of a human.

by Anonymousreply 16April 1, 2022 8:14 PM

R15, your “what-aboutism” is tiresome and frankly irrelevant in this case.

by Anonymousreply 17April 1, 2022 9:34 PM

Your RACISM is pervasive all over this site, r17. Sit the fuck down you toxic pos.

by Anonymousreply 18April 1, 2022 9:38 PM

I’m just calling it as I see it. Will Smith is a piece of shit. So is his wife. So is Will Packer. So is Whoopi Goldberg. Chris Rock is not a piece of shit. That’s all.

by Anonymousreply 19April 1, 2022 9:57 PM

Both are true R15. Race is why Trump got away (and continues to get away) with everything. But the person you're unfairly calling a racist is also right: Will Smith's blackness, in this instance, protected him from being thrown out etc. At a very elite level, and with a very specific crowd, blackness is protective. White people at that level will do almost anything to avoid being called racist. I'm not saying they truly give a shit about black people - most of them probably don't. But they give a shit about themselves and their reputations, and that means, as I said, doing basically anything to avoid being called racist. Which means scum like Will Smith get away with their shit.

(And the white people voting for Trump are a whole different crowd of white people to the ones who would happily have turfed a white man out of the Oscars on Sunday night.)

by Anonymousreply 20April 1, 2022 10:02 PM

R19 Sorry Chris, but you definitely are a POS.

by Anonymousreply 21April 1, 2022 10:04 PM

That outrageous, over-the-top green gown, was all to get attention. On the Red Carpet, she was preening. When the tv people interviewed Will - she held a microphone too. But they didn't ask her any questions and she wasn't happy.

by Anonymousreply 22April 1, 2022 10:30 PM

Because she’s a loathsome no-talent cunt with nothing of value to say, that’s why they didn’t ask her any questions.

I’ll be watching Bill Maher’s show tonight for the first time in years because the discussion over this could be interesting.

by Anonymousreply 23April 1, 2022 11:22 PM

R22 Everyone preens on the Red Carpet - that's the point.

by Anonymousreply 24April 1, 2022 11:25 PM

[quote][R15], your“what-aboutism” is tiresome and frankly irrelevant in this case.

It's not whataboutism, it's showing your glaring hypocrisy, dirtbag. Slithering out to try and deflect from that glaring hypocrisy won't work. Who the fuck do you think you are thinking you can just be some racist prick and believing no one is going to point out what fucking assholes you people are when you're called out for your bullshit beliefs?

You idiots expect people to just go along with the bullshit that somehow black people get away with shit and you expect no one to point out that the stupidest, most corrupt, sexually-assaulting scumbag was given the most powerful position in the world by white people...and you expect no one to point that out as you whine about some black guy at an awards show? FUCK OFF.

by Anonymousreply 25April 1, 2022 11:28 PM

R20, I only recently found out that John Wayne had to be held back from hitting that Native American woman who accepted for Brando. Don't act like Hollywood didn't spend decades covering for its white performers and continues to do so.

Again, what Smith did was wrong and he should be punished, but it's like a fucking dinner bell going off for the racist jackals. They are in fact racist idiots who pretend minorities get away with everything and poor white people are punished. Fucking bullshit. people making it about racist are fucking scum and I include black people defending Smith, because had it been a white performer who did that to Rock, they'd have a different view. Fuck both sets of assholes.

by Anonymousreply 26April 1, 2022 11:33 PM

Exactly. Thank you, R25 and R26.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

by Anonymousreply 27April 1, 2022 11:44 PM

Jada gaslit Will because she was jealous. She sat back and watched him ruin an honor he had dreamed about for years.

by Anonymousreply 28April 1, 2022 11:48 PM

[quote]Don't act like Hollywood didn't spend decades covering for its white performers and continues to do so.

Oh it totally did, agreed. Still is. But Will Smith being black means he got away with something a white man would have been thrown out for. Because a bunch of white people don't want to be called racist by Twitter.

by Anonymousreply 29April 1, 2022 11:49 PM

Will and Jada and their lawyers and publicists are now very apologetic. Will is "heartbroken."

by Anonymousreply 30April 1, 2022 11:53 PM

Well that sounds about right. It's perhaps the least offensive out of all the possible consequences.

Chris behaved very classy in such a chaotic moment. I would hope teenagers take note.

by Anonymousreply 31April 2, 2022 12:05 AM

Perfectly said r20. That said, there are members of the black community (like Kareem) who are rightly disgusted by this because it reinforces negative stereotypes they’ve been fighting for so long.

by Anonymousreply 32April 2, 2022 2:32 AM

I really liked these points brought up by Kareem. The patronizing paternal attitude is something that occurs in different racial and cultural groups in different variations and it's usually normalized. We all come across some men who act as if their wives, daughters, or female relatives aren't capable of defending themselves or speaking for themselves in certain situations. A bit OT, but I worked in patient care coordination for a hospital years ago and there were some female patients whose husbands would cause drama during appointments, scheduling calls/meetings because they had the attitude that their wives weren't able to handle their own healthcare decisions or communicate with hospital staff on their own. Some people on staff would defend those assholes and would use the excuse "that people just protective of their spouses". I hated that excuse.

[quote]Actually, it was the opposite. Smith’s slap was also a slap to women. If Rock had physically attacked Pinkett Smith, Smith’s intervention would have been welcome. Or if he’d remained in his seat and yelled his post-slap threat, that would have been unnecessary, but understandable. But by hitting Rock, he announced that his wife was incapable of defending herself—against words. From everything I’d seen of Pinkett Smith over the years, she’s a very capable, tough, smart woman who can single-handedly take on a lame joke at the Academy Awards show.

[quote]This patronizing, paternal attitude infantilizes women and reduces them to helpless damsels needing a Big Strong Man to defend their honor lest they swoon from the vapors. If he was really doing it for his wife, and not his own need to prove himself, he might have thought about the negative attention this brought on them, much harsher than the benign joke. That would have been truly defending and respecting her. This “women need men to defend them” is the same justification currently being proclaimed by conservatives passing laws to restrict abortion and the LGBTQ+ community.

Maher is disliked because he's unlikeable. But this is the tea hee hee. He said to Jada - You're lucky to only suffer from Alopecia. "Put on a fuckig wig!" If alopecia is your most serious medical issue be grateful and wear a wig like most of the other people at the awards!

I already imagined that something like this remark might be part of Chris Rock's future set. He knows this subject well.

Yes there's more to unpack. But this shot is FOR Jada. Get over yourself and the heartbreak of some hairloss rich bitch. It's not like you don't know how to wear a wig. Beyonce does alright.

by Anonymousreply 34April 2, 2022 6:09 AM

I can hear Maher now "Well, I'm just saying, did anyone punch anyone at the Academy Awards while Trump was President? I mean, the way Biden talks shit to Putin instead of gently nuzzling him like Trump did, well it's no wonder that Hollywood stars are going berserk and hitting people! I'm just sayin..." Tulsi Gabbard wildly claps and throws in something about jews.

by Anonymousreply 35April 2, 2022 11:40 AM

R35 Then you obviously did not watch Real Time last night!

by Anonymousreply 36April 2, 2022 2:37 PM

Maher was surprisingly non-judgmental last night. It was an OK discussion. I’m just glad Laura Coates emphasized Smith should have been escorted out of the auditorium.

by Anonymousreply 37April 2, 2022 11:57 PM

To the bitch who’s big on “what about-ism” using Trump as an example:

I loathe Trump. I wish he was dead or in prison along with his three eldest children.

But here’s some “what about-ism” for you, asshole-we’ve actually never seen Trump assault anybody/grab pussies, etc but we DID see Will Smith assault Chris Rock. File THAT under “what about-ism,” douchewipe.

by Anonymousreply 38April 3, 2022 12:01 AM

What r15, r25 and r26 said.

And I write this as someone who thinks Smith is a POS for the slap and have said so many times here on all the threads.

Still, there seems to be a notion out there in Comment Land among a small number of Black commenters that those who aren't black shouldn't comment on "the Slappening" because, apparently, "it's a black thing, I wouldn't understand."

I didn't invite myself to see what Smith did to Rock. I didn't reach for this.

There I was, in my Archie Bunker tattered Barcalounger, minding my own beeswax, laptop open to the DL thread, watching the AAs, when, suddenly, Smith violated my TV, my space and neurons by perpetrating misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct on live TV before my very eyes.

I'm gonna talk about it, opine about it, til it's talked out.

I'm just glad to see Rock get the credit he deserves. What. A. Pro.

by Anonymousreply 39April 3, 2022 12:29 AM

[quote]Still, there seems to be a notion out there in Comment Land among a small number of Black commenters that those who aren't black shouldn't comment on "the Slappening" because, apparently, "it's a black thing, I wouldn't understand."

Della/r39 I haven't seen anyone here say people who aren't black can't comment about it. What black commenters are saying is that this issue has nothing to do with race; it is specific to Will Smith and his wife's relationship.

Trolls have continued to post comments all week about this being a result of inclusion efforts on the part of the AMPAS, which is a totally and completely racist statement.

by Anonymousreply 40April 3, 2022 12:39 AM

[quote] Della/[R39] I haven't seen anyone here say people who aren't black can't comment about it. What black commenters are saying is that this issue has nothing to do with race; it is specific to Will Smith and his wife's relationship.

r40, Ok.

I should have made clear that I was referring to a poster, who was stirring his bigot-pot, who linked an essay from a Black commenter who said, and I paraphrase here, that non-Black commenters don't understand cultural performative art, or something like that, and that was part of what we saw with Smith and Rock.

[quote] Trolls have continued to post comments all week about this being a result of inclusion efforts on the part of the AMPAS, which is a totally and completely racist statement.

100% correct, true. To read Troll comments, you'd think that the AAs have always been a bastion of refined taste and rarefied cultural offerings instead of what they always have been- the crudest of marketing tools, wrapped in a trainwreck, and all coated with the thinnest veneer of "art".

They've always been must-see schlock, and, oh, do I love to watch it.

by Anonymousreply 41April 3, 2022 1:06 AM

Now imagine someone had wig-snatched Jada (if she'd been wearing a wig) on the Red Carpet.

by Anonymousreply 42April 3, 2022 4:56 AM

R62 Timmy should have done it, so that she could slap him out of his shoes. Talk about a ratings boost!

by Anonymousreply 43April 3, 2022 6:45 PM

I will never understand how I was not bitch slapped right off the stage!

by Anonymousreply 44April 3, 2022 6:53 PM

And Bill Maher should know, r34.

He probably can’t understand why she won’t wear a rug like he does.
