Jeopardy #28: The Show Must Go On
by Anonymous | reply 601 | April 14, 2022 2:23 AM |
Carter Lockwood, we hardly knew ye.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 22, 2022 8:28 AM |
Carter Lockwood. is a name for a soap opera business magnate.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 22, 2022 11:08 AM |
Is Carter a homosexualist?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 22, 2022 2:34 PM |
I'd never heard of Juliette Gordon Low until tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 23, 2022 4:27 AM |
I knew Final immediately because of the trefoil part of the clue. Trefoil are my favorite Girl Scout cookie.
I liked Hieu. Was impressed by his surge at the end.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 23, 2022 6:45 AM |
I knew it was the Girl Scouts founder based on Trefoil but I had no idea what her actual name was.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 23, 2022 6:25 PM |
That was an incredibly easy "tie breaker".
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 23, 2022 11:07 PM |
Yeah, I thought it was an easy tie breaker too.
I was surprised no one got raisins, Sri Lanka or equator.
I felt bad for Patrick coming up with a really dumb response for the pasta dish with "Carb" in the name.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 24, 2022 12:14 AM |
"I felt bad for Patrick coming up with a really dumb response for the pasta dish with "Carb" in the name."
But, he was definitely easy on the eyes, so we'll forgive his dumb response.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 24, 2022 12:25 AM |
She wouldn’t have needed the tiebreaker if she simply had bid $1 more. What a bizarre thing to do.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 24, 2022 1:12 AM |
That tie breaker couldn’t have been any easier. After hearing her story, I wonder if the doctor let her win?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 24, 2022 1:17 AM |
More attention must be paid to your wager.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 24, 2022 3:40 AM |
Good game. I liked all the players.
I knew Final as well as Sri Lanka.
Have only seen the Tie Breaker done once before. Rather easy answer tonight. As I recall, the previous time they did a Tie Breaker, it was also an easy answer. So, the Tie Breaker is clearly about who is fastest on the buzzer.
Tie Breaker could have been avoided if Chrstine had just bet $1 more. But I'm not really seeing the need for a Tie Breaker. Why couldn't two people have gone into tomorrow's show as champs. Co-champs. by the end of tomorrow's show, we would have been back down to one champ.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 24, 2022 5:48 AM |
Because, Fairness Queens, there is one winner at the end of the half hour. ONE.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 24, 2022 12:12 PM |
Agreed that Sri Lanka was obvious.
I fear new champ will be another multi-night steamroll.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 24, 2022 1:20 PM |
The new champ is confident enough to start steamrolling over her opponents.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 24, 2022 3:25 PM |
Several cancer patients have been victorious on Jeopardy!.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 24, 2022 3:27 PM |
Tonight’s game was awful. Probably the highest rate of incorrect responses in recent memory. You could tell Ken Jennings was making a real effort to suppress rolling his eyes at the contestants’ continuous stupid answers to really easy questions.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 25, 2022 12:25 AM |
The lady champ responding Mary Kay Ash to a photo of Madam C. J. Walker was too funny.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 25, 2022 12:39 AM |
No one knew Marla Gibbs was the maid on "The Jeffersons"?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 25, 2022 12:40 AM |
This was no one's finest half hour.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 25, 2022 3:15 AM |
Is the Champ a lezzy?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 25, 2022 7:43 AM |
One of the worst games I've witnessed in ages. So many wrong answers. So many dumb answers!
Anne started off strong but completely lost her mojo. But then Lucian who was barely a presence in the first half had a surge in the second half. Along the way, Christine just sort built an unbeatable lead.
Final was very easy for me if you knew the Addams Family started off as a cartoon.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 25, 2022 8:32 AM |
I got Final at the last minute. I've taken to keeping paper and pencil nearby to write down ones I knew that they didn't, so here goes... 1876 (did they not know what the term "centennial" means?), Baton Rouge (again, they all but signaled "just guess the name of the capital!"), Shreveport, 1916, Maria Theresa, Madame C J Walker (Mark Kay cosmetics were quite a bit later than that photo), Maria Theresa, and The Jeffersons.
Rather than her orientation, I'm more concerned that the current champ is an evangelical.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 25, 2022 12:12 PM |
So I said Saturn awards, wtf are the Saturn Awards?
I thought they were for sci-fi?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 26, 2022 12:31 AM |
I can see getting very tired of Christine very, very quickly. On the bright side, Max almost took her out, so she could be vulnerable, because there were quite a few questions she missed, including two DDs.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 26, 2022 1:24 AM |
I want to slap that condescending smile off her face. She’s smart, but being heavily religious, as she appears to be, will limit her knowledge. Hopeful she’s gone soon.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 26, 2022 5:58 AM |
I guessed Hugo, but wasn't sure. The guy from West Hollywood had a nice voice and demeanor. Ken is good at "Hosting Jeopardy".
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 26, 2022 6:04 AM |
Yes, Christine is growing annoying rather quickly. Was hoping Max would take her out.
I guess Hugo for Final but wasn't entirely confident.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 26, 2022 8:02 AM |
R25, "Madame C J Walker (Mark Kay cosmetics were quite a bit later than that photo)"
Not to mention one was black and the other Caucasian.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 26, 2022 9:05 AM |
Christine's annoying prisspot lips are making me hate her. NEXT!....
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 26, 2022 3:50 PM |
R32, Bet she plays a mean organ.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 26, 2022 3:53 PM |
Ewwwwwwwwwwww.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 26, 2022 5:18 PM |
Christine is annoying as hell!
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 28, 2022 12:57 AM |
I knew that was a wig.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 28, 2022 9:13 PM |
Poor homosexual Joe couldn’t even make it to final.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 28, 2022 11:53 PM |
Forgetting about the Balkans, I guessed Kabul. However, among the many I did know that they didn't: The Band (having seen The Last Waltz), Golf (Dinah Shore), Heinz (Pittsburgh), Jacaranda (not a lot of J trees), Yeats, Marathon Man, infinitesimal, Basra (not Jeddah), Loch Ness under Scandinavian?
Was the champ trying to signal her short hair is NOT a dyke thing?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 1, 2022 12:04 AM |
Christine does look better without that greasy wig.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 1, 2022 12:17 AM |
As did everyone viewing from outer space, R36. It was pretty obvious, especially since she told us she'd had breast cancer last year.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 1, 2022 2:36 AM |
Ken seemed a bit exasperated with the (many) wrong answers.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 1, 2022 3:09 AM |
Do you blame him? Some of these are pretty fucking easy.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 1, 2022 4:40 AM |
How did Joe get past the first interview?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 1, 2022 11:51 AM |
R43, He threatened them with his sword.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 1, 2022 12:35 PM |
How did Joe even [bold]get[bold] the first interview?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 1, 2022 2:05 PM |
I meant to bold only the word get above.
Anyway, not only were there a lot of wrong answers, but no one was buzzing in for ones that I thought were obvious.
I could understand not knowing Mothers of Invention or The Band, but Sophie's Choice? Marathon Man? Basra? Golf tournament?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 1, 2022 2:11 PM |
So many wrong answers or non responsive answers that must be generations -- Mothers of Invention, the Band, gold and Dinah Shore. I guess if you're under 40, these aren't a part of your consciousness.
Living in LA, I certainly knew the jacaranda tree. But I had never heard of it until I moved here.
Christine looks better without the wig. But she's just so unexpressive. She wins her third game and it barely even registers on her face. Hard to warm up to her.
I knew Sarajevo for Final. Only other possible answer I could think of was Beruit, but I was fairly certain the fighting there was earlier that 92-96.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 1, 2022 4:27 PM |
I'm liking the new champ a lot! Stefan really triggered my nerd fetish though. Odd dress for Christine, but guess she wanted to get back to her evangelical roots?
Three I knew they misssed were Married with Children, Six Feet Under, and Volta, but still the kind of competition we all want to see.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 2, 2022 12:02 AM |
Some of those tv show finales were hard!
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 2, 2022 12:18 AM |
FJ was very easy, I got Gable and could name all three movies.
I also got all of the TV show finales except for M*A*S*H (I guessed St. Elsewhere).
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 2, 2022 12:19 AM |
Too bad Stefan isn't gay. Lincoln?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 2, 2022 12:27 AM |
I like Margaret too. She's from Pittsburgh, but I thought I heard a bit of a southern accent.
"La Dolce Vita" is one of my all-time favorite movies, so I got Fellini. But not Volta...
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 2, 2022 3:20 AM |
I like Margaret as well. She’s a little quirky. I like that.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 2, 2022 3:31 AM |
Way to go "quirky" Margaret, kicking a cancer survivor while she's down.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 2, 2022 4:06 AM |
When Margaret was introduced as a "homemaker", my first reaction was not good, but she quickly and happily surprised me. She seemed a bit overdressed for a game show, but her personality is refreshing.
FJ was, indeed, very easy.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 2, 2022 6:09 AM |
Good game. Always like it when the game is competitive.
Bravo to Margaret. She's quirky but fun. I just never warmed to cancer survivor Christine, although I really tried to.
Final was indeed very easy.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 2, 2022 8:02 AM |
I'm glad to see sourpuss Christine go. She's too severe for a game show - with or without the wig.
Initially I thought Stefan was cute, but he had a kind of (straight) swagger early on that I didn't care for.
On the other hand, I thought Margaret was a hoot. I can easily imagine her vacuuming her living room carpet while holding a cocktail with her other hand.
I was stumped a lot tonight, but FJ was super easy. And I recognized Fellini (one of my favorite directors) the second they showed his picture.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 2, 2022 12:35 PM |
Why is Ken saying that there's a good chance Christine will return for the TOC when she only won four games?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 2, 2022 7:20 PM |
Ken said that at the beginning of the episode, anticipating that she would win her fifth game and then qualify for the Tournament.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 2, 2022 7:37 PM |
I thought that odd too, and Ken did say it at the end of the episode after she lost. But lo and behold, with only 4 wins and $76,600, she is currently #11 in the TOC tracker.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 2, 2022 8:07 PM |
R59, Ken says it again at the beginning of today's(Wednesday's) game.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 2, 2022 8:10 PM |
I love Margaret. She’s so polite and self-effacing, she even frowns when she wins!
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 2, 2022 11:59 PM |
Canadian challenger struck me as a self-impressed jerk. Margaret is a real hoot!
I could swear I heard the challenger say "lammermoor" which, if so, they should've caught.
Guessed MOMA for final, but did know Indianapolis, Qom, and the Burma Road.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 3, 2022 12:12 AM |
Yeah, I love Margaret and that slight lilt of an accent. She’s smart, but self-effacing. Hope that she stays around.
I liked Christine and glad that she climbed out of that huge deficit, but I didn’t care for Ujal at all.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 3, 2022 12:25 AM |
Why should she not have said Lammermoor?
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 3, 2022 12:30 AM |
My error: I thought it was actually Lammamoor.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | March 3, 2022 12:41 AM |
Best game in a while, until the FJ giveaway question. Margaret is great; I hope she's just starting a good run.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 3, 2022 3:10 AM |
I sort of miss the mohawk guy with his crossed arms across chest. Not many stand out, he did.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 3, 2022 4:24 AM |
Margaret has a Joker smile. I like her too.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | March 3, 2022 4:25 AM |
Here’s an after show video of her chatting with Ken. So funny!
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 3, 2022 6:04 AM |
Really good game!!
I liked all three contestants. Especially proud to see Christie do so well after being so far in the red in the beginning.
Really like Margaret. Hope she's around for a while.
Yes, Final was painfully obvious as all three contestants thought also
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 3, 2022 7:02 AM |
Johnny - you are annoying! Ugh!!
by Anonymous | reply 72 | March 3, 2022 10:08 AM |
That dude was hot, I thought. Really relaxed watching Margaret as the champ. Nothing worse that a jeopardy champ you can’t abide!
by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 3, 2022 12:20 PM |
Team Margaret!
by Anonymous | reply 74 | March 3, 2022 8:00 PM |
Margaret is VERY likable. I’m rooting for her.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | March 3, 2022 9:02 PM |
Did anybody see the post by Amy on social media? Apparently she’s still a guy. 🤔
by Anonymous | reply 76 | March 3, 2022 11:05 PM |
I, too, love Margaret!
by Anonymous | reply 77 | March 3, 2022 11:59 PM |
I lol'ed picturing Andy Murray playing tennis in angora.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | March 4, 2022 12:09 AM |
R78, In Dungarees, Italy.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | March 4, 2022 2:07 AM |
I’m glad that Margaret rallied and knew Palermo for FJ. She lives on for yet another day to be unfailingly and charmingly polite.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | March 4, 2022 2:15 AM |
I cannot believe I never knew the derivation of "jeans" and, honestly, I'd never even wondered about it! Learn something everyday.
Another Margaret fan. She has the wackiest and most apologetic way of delivering answers, even the easy ones. But isn't it strange that such a bright woman bills herself as a "homemaker", especially as she said she and her husband don't have children. She's never worked?
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 4, 2022 2:17 AM |
How does an EMT work from home?
by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 4, 2022 2:20 AM |
Some really hard questions tonight, and a close game. I didn't know Badminton, but was happy to see Margaret get it at the very last second.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | March 4, 2022 3:02 AM |
Team Margaret all the way. Glad she was triumphant! I was really worried for her.
Yes, some tough questions tonight. Many answers I didn't have any idea on.
I knew that Final was referring to the capital city of Sicily, but I blanked on the name of that city.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | March 4, 2022 5:53 AM |
Margaret. looks like a certain comic performer or character to me, but I can't put my. finger on which one.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | March 4, 2022 11:52 AM |
Margaret's face, especially in its wacky contortions, reminds me of a young Martha Raye, r85.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | March 4, 2022 1:39 PM |
I have aunts, uncles and cousins in the Wilkes Barre area and they sound very much like Margaret.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | March 4, 2022 3:07 PM |
Is it the Joker, R85? Don’t get me wrong, I like her, but her mouth movements with all that lipstick bring the Joker to mind. I was so relieved she won and glad we’ll have her for a bit longer.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | March 4, 2022 3:43 PM |
How does an EMT work from home?
Must be in management.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | March 4, 2022 4:37 PM |
I'm just glad human bobblehead Ryan lost.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | March 4, 2022 4:52 PM |
by Anonymous | reply 91 | March 4, 2022 4:55 PM |
It. definitely has something to do with the glasses.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | March 4, 2022 6:02 PM |
She has such an interesting demeanor.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | March 4, 2022 6:13 PM |
She strikes as someone who loves her gay boys.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | March 4, 2022 7:02 PM |
Another win for Margaret! Though the competition was rather weak tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | March 5, 2022 12:14 AM |
I was cringing when Margaret went for that true DD.
Have to wonder what hubby Jake is like.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | March 5, 2022 12:27 AM |
Margaret just bumped Christine Welchell out of the TOC.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | March 5, 2022 12:27 AM |
R97, The humanity!
by Anonymous | reply 98 | March 5, 2022 12:28 AM |
Well, we never liked Christine much anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | March 5, 2022 12:35 AM |
Is the eligibility for TOC based on number of wins or amount of cash won?
by Anonymous | reply 100 | March 5, 2022 12:36 AM |
The Russia category tonight was pretty chilling considering everything going on right now. The episode was taped on January 11th so the writers had no way of knowing Putin would end up terrorizing Ukraine.
On a lighter note, Margaret is great. I love smart Southern women.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | March 5, 2022 2:29 AM |
I wonder if Christine Whelchel is related to Lisa. Lisa often spends time in Tennessee, so it's possible. there are relatives there.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | March 5, 2022 3:02 AM |
Is Whelchel a German name? It seems like an uncommon name to me, but I'm not familiar with it or it's origins. They could be related. tHowever, if Whelchel is like Chopra in India or Esposito in Italy, there could be hundreds of people with that name who have no family relation.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | March 5, 2022 3:35 AM |
I guessed crocodile for the gutsy DD too, but did get Don Quixote. Margaret's going strong.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | March 5, 2022 4:52 AM |
Margaret grew up in Mississippi, which explains the accent.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | March 5, 2022 6:50 AM |
I like Margaret, but wish she would stop swallowing her words and just speak plainly in a clear voice. Maybe they could adjust her microphone? I have misophonia and she's starting to trigger me. I loved that Ellen Page made a well-received cameo Friday.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | March 5, 2022 7:14 AM |
I thought that Komodo dragon was the easy and obvious choice for the DD. I’m surprised that guy didn’t get it.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | March 5, 2022 7:36 AM |
Any DLers outraged that Sam Smith was MISGENDERED on Jeopardy yesterday?
In 2015, *he* took home four Grammys, including one for the song "Stay With Me"
by Anonymous | reply 109 | March 5, 2022 2:07 PM |
R109, Yes, I was so upset I couldn't sleep last night.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | March 5, 2022 2:27 PM |
Margaret’s got a bit of Dame Edna going on.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | March 5, 2022 2:35 PM |
Komodo dragon was obvious. There couldn't have been any other answer.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | March 5, 2022 5:44 PM |
I knew Komodo Dragon as well. Why so obvious? They featured in an episode of Jonny Quest over 40 years ago. Dr. Zin was jealous of Quest and Bannon's relationship.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | March 5, 2022 11:15 PM |
I usually never comment on the male contestants, but Clay really turns my crank.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | March 7, 2022 11:09 PM |
Yikes maybe not.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | March 7, 2022 11:24 PM |
Clay makes me moist - down there.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | March 7, 2022 11:47 PM |
Clay was HOT. I'm sad he was barely on.
Probably the hottest contestant in ages.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | March 8, 2022 12:02 AM |
I found Clay to be wicked hot when he smiled. Less so when he didn't.
Margaret was really off her game tonight. Her energy was so low. I'll miss her. But the new winner is a fun gal.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | March 8, 2022 12:03 AM |
I wanted hot Clay to stay longer just to confirm he's gay. He is gay, right?
by Anonymous | reply 119 | March 8, 2022 12:04 AM |
I was going to ask "Would you let Clay put his tongue in your mouth?" However, I was turned off by the perfect score bragging, so his fate was well deserved.
Oh, Margaret - how could you do this to me? I'm still her BFF though...
Annoyed that I missed Final that seemed obvious after the fact. The thought "Ike's Yikes" seemed so obvious that I was surprised there was another possibility. Wyoming... and India? Guess standardized tests aren't all they're cracked up to be. For the Mecca question, I blurted out kaaba. And, yes, I knew about pigs in pokes.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | March 8, 2022 12:07 AM |
Clay's tongue isn't the only thing I'd put in my mouth. Anyway, I knew the moment he mentioned the perfect score in his interview that he would going down in flames.
The new contestant seems pleasant enough.
But I'll miss Margaret.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | March 8, 2022 12:31 AM |
I think Margaret couldn't handle the pressure anymore. You saw her reaction to the Final Jeopardy category, then she bets it all? She wanted out.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | March 8, 2022 12:38 AM |
I agree, r121. Margaret was ready to pack it in. She didn't even need to bet it all.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | March 8, 2022 12:48 AM |
Couldn't believe no one recognized Iman! Maybe Clay isn't gay.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | March 8, 2022 12:48 AM |
The new champion looks like Shannon Beador.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | March 8, 2022 12:54 AM |
Did Alex go on some much about contestants on a streak after 2, 3 or 4 wins? It just seems like Ken especially puts a curse on them by mentioning it so much. But maybe that's what in his teleprompter.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | March 8, 2022 12:57 AM |
I have no idea about Iman.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | March 8, 2022 12:58 AM |
Besides her status as one of the most photographed internationally famous supermodels, Iman was married to David Bowie.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | March 8, 2022 1:00 AM |
The Iman picture was too far away on the screen to make out her face.
Clay was hot as hell.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | March 8, 2022 1:01 AM |
Margaret was the most charming contestant I've ever seen. Sorry to see her go.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | March 8, 2022 1:39 AM |
Will Margaret be in the TOC? She was a joy to watch. I want to be her friend.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | March 8, 2022 1:41 AM |
It's not that Clay lost, it was he went down in flames. Some really bad guessing on his part.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | March 8, 2022 1:46 AM |
I thought spoilers were to be avoided here?
by Anonymous | reply 133 | March 8, 2022 1:48 AM |
They are, and I dislike them, but 8 Eastern always struck me as a reasonable cutoff. When I lived on the west coast, I refrained from reading the thread until after the show three hours later.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | March 8, 2022 1:51 AM |
Margaret is in the running for TOC, one step above last place Christine Whelchel.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | March 8, 2022 1:54 AM |
Thanks, R134. I avoided posting anything about Margaret earlier, worrying that I might be spoiling. Glad to know the cutoff.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | March 8, 2022 1:59 AM |
I’m in California and I am just now getting to see the majesty that is Clay. I have no idea what is happening with the game, in the least bit. All I can do is plan my naked future with Clay.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | March 8, 2022 2:16 AM |
“Though Shelton’s 15 minutes of fame have been quite the whirlwind, she was at least somewhat prepared for it due to being the niece of Archie Manning, the former NFL quarterback and father of retired NFL QBs Peyton and Eli Manning.”
by Anonymous | reply 138 | March 8, 2022 2:18 AM |
I didn't catch Clay's last name.....is it Tyler? Does he have any social media accounts?
by Anonymous | reply 139 | March 8, 2022 2:31 AM |
Clay really cleaned up for the show.
Here he is promoting his tutorial business, looking a bit scruffy and sporting a man bun.

Dammit Margaret! Why did she bet everything on a category she didn't even like? I'm gonna miss her :-( Lovely personality.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | March 8, 2022 2:39 AM |
Clay's "Wyoming" response was baffling.
It's especially humiliating for someone who brags about his perfect SAT scores and who sells preparatory courses online to go down in flames on Jeopardy!.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | March 8, 2022 2:49 AM |
R142, But Clay-Bear is sexy! That always trumps intelligence. Especially in Vegas.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | March 8, 2022 2:52 AM |
I think Clay was overthinking on some of his responses and yes, Wyoming is a baffling response to a clue about a former Mexican territory.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | March 8, 2022 3:14 AM |
Clay was cute, but he was definitely overthinking his answers. There was a portion of Wyoming that belonged to Mexico, but the acquisition date was 1848, which didn’t match the clue of 1836. And Texas was just the more obvious answer.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | March 8, 2022 3:20 AM |
I can only think Clay answered "Wyoming" because he thought they were still in the category of things with Y as the second letter.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | March 8, 2022 3:22 AM |
Clay has numerous videos on YouTube selling his preparatory courses.
He's a bit too earnest with his delivery, comes off as a bit of a snake oil salesman.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | March 8, 2022 4:00 AM |
Yeah, a totally different vibe than he had on Jeopardy.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | March 8, 2022 4:06 AM |
HAHAHAHA
fucking hilarious that the "I'm the only one I know with all perfect test scores" asshole Clay went down in FLAMES. That was delicious
He's proof that being a great test taker doesn't mean you're all-knowledgeable. Some of his answers were pathetic and embarrassing. Wyoming instead of Texas? Saying "oh my god" instead of "omg" as the category asked for 3 letters, mixing up India with Persia & Iran and more. He got a much needed dose of humble pie
SHOCKED that between the 3 of them no one knew Mecca or Iman!!!!!
For the final I guessed Lake Nicaragua then was stuck and started second guessing myself. I then thought of Lake Managua after the time had run out but before Ken read the correct answer
by Anonymous | reply 149 | March 8, 2022 5:54 AM |
Oh, Margaret, so sad to see you go. But you were not on top of your game tonight. Was super impressed by her Daily Double bet in a category she didn't feel comfortable with. That may have been why she bet it all in Final, despite not liking the category.
Yeah, Clay turned me off when he started bragging about his perfect SAT scores. He sure was cute, but it was also satisfying to see him go down in flames.
Had no idea on Final.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | March 8, 2022 6:20 AM |
I'm a bit confused about this ToC wildcard business, as I thought only the first two earners qualify, yet Margaret is tenth?
by Anonymous | reply 151 | March 8, 2022 9:30 AM |
Interesting footnotes they have on the eligibility
*All 4-time and over winning players starting from 01/05/21 will be eligible for a future Tournament of Champions. Presence on this list does NOT guarantee an invitation to compete in the Tournament of Champions. Other eligibility rules apply and final selection is up to the producers' sole discretion.

I know this is a silly piece of trivia, but I don't ever remember seeing a contestant take a sip of a beverage before, which Gundeep did at the end of the show.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | March 9, 2022 12:47 AM |
Three nice contestants enjoying themselves. FJ was a gimme.
"Final selection is up to the producers' sole discretion" is a surprising caveat; I assumed it all came down to $ won...

Good game. Very enjoyable.
I find that I like Maureen. I wanted to dislike her since she defeated Margaret, but I must admit she's very likable.
Yes, Final seemed easy.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | March 9, 2022 8:13 AM |
Maureen seems not to take all of it very seriously.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | March 9, 2022 1:33 PM |
Maureen and Ken should get a room.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | March 9, 2022 2:38 PM |
Maureen reminds me of Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man, so it wouldn't surprise me if she was on the spectrum. I can't watch her anymore, and not because she's autistic. Because she's just annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | March 9, 2022 11:57 PM |
Maureen is from Rye Beach which is not a cheap town. I wish I could afford to live there.

I managed to guess final correctly - yay, me!
As a contrarian, I'm not a huge fan of the champ, so was rooting for the Seattle challenger.
Oh, yeah, I finally deciphered my own handwriting realizing that I knew Grandma Moses right away.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | March 10, 2022 12:04 AM |
For the daily double in literary characters, do you think they would have accepted just "Jane"? I knew it was Tarzan and Jane, but had no idea her last name was Porter.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | March 10, 2022 12:10 AM |
I knew that they were going for Jane, but had no idea of her surname.

I bet they would have accepted just Jane.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | March 10, 2022 12:59 AM |
Me Tarzan, you Jane,
Yes, Jane would have been sufficient.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | March 10, 2022 1:30 AM |
Surprised they didn't get credenza, for Pete's sake. I also guessed Plath for the Final.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | March 10, 2022 3:42 AM |
R166, You really thought I died in 1925?
by Anonymous | reply 167 | March 10, 2022 5:44 AM |
Umm, R167
Her epitaph, from a 1925 poem by her, ends, “She knows that her dust is very pretty”; “dust” was in another she wrote for herself.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | March 10, 2022 5:49 AM |
I always thought credenza was something smaller, like a side table.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | March 10, 2022 11:56 AM |
I always thought a credenza was some kind of writing desk.
Yeah, the "1925" was very confusing, if not misleading. And I also guessed Edna St. Vincent Millay because of the year.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | March 10, 2022 1:12 PM |
R170 I did as well!
by Anonymous | reply 171 | March 10, 2022 2:10 PM |
I'm liking Maureen a lot.
I knew Jane and Grandma Moses. Jane's last name was never widely known, unlike Greystoke. Sincerely doubt they would penalize you for not knowing it.
Also knew Saturn 5 rocket, Buzz Aldrin and book of Genesis from the Apollo category. And quite a few others they missed in other categories
Had no idea on final. Clue was misleading and badly worded. I guessed Elizabeth Barrett Browning since I couldn't think of any other poet.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | March 10, 2022 3:58 PM |
I got Grandma Moses too.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | March 10, 2022 4:08 PM |
If it wasn't Georgia O'Keefe, it had to be Grandma Moses.
by Anonymous | reply 174 | March 10, 2022 4:11 PM |
I would have been humiliated on the epitaph FJ. I too, did not think of Dorothy Parker as a poet. All I could think of was Emily Dickinson which I knew to be so very wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | March 10, 2022 5:20 PM |
I love how the only "female poet of the 20th century" people seem to know is Plath. So she wrote her epitaph before she was born... the Queen of Death might actually have liked that. I guessed Stein, thought I knew it was likely wrong. Some FJ's, when the answer it given, are like,,,, well, duh, of course.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | March 10, 2022 5:44 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 182 | March 10, 2022 11:58 PM |
I'm not a huge fan of Maureen. I do have a weakness for guys in glasses.
I got Final as soon as I saw the date 1893. From my notes... I could swear he said 30 Year War (singular)? That aside, I did know about midshipman, Green Line, and measles.
Great game in terms of being competitive!

R178 Hi Maureen!
by Anonymous | reply 185 | March 11, 2022 12:16 AM |
I like Maureen as much as I liked Margaret, even though they seem like they're polar opposites of one another.
Maureen looks like she's having a bast, and she has this self-effacing thing going on that I find enjoyable.
I kept trying to think who she reminded me of - but only in terms of looks - and I think it's the character Gerri from Succession.
I'm surprised two of the contestants didn't get FJ. But then I was obsessed with the crime when I was a teenager and even read a couple of books on the topic.
by Anonymous | reply 186 | March 11, 2022 12:16 AM |
I think it was the "witch trial" reference that confused them (and me). I was actually thinking of Hetty Green, called "The Witch of Wall Street" in the 1890s, a billionairess who made her fortune on the stock market. I wondered if perhaps she was on trial for some sort of insider trading.
by Anonymous | reply 187 | March 11, 2022 12:26 AM |

Margaret reminded me of that fabulously nervous contestant Evie who won a string of games on "Match Game" back in the 70s. Truly one of the funniest contestants ever. It's a long clip I posted (sorry about that, but skip around or sample if you wish). She's memorable all these years later.

by Anonymous | reply 192 | March 11, 2022 2:52 AM |
They tape a week's worth of shows in one day, R177, so she would've needed to drink between tapings.

I enjoy Maureen’s spunkiness, but I’m not enjoying all the inter-question chatter and exclamations that the editors are allowing into the broadcast. I can’t tell if it’s just Maureen who’s super talkative and almost interrupting the host, or if it’s a deliberate choice on how they sound edit the show lately to make the game more earthy and “fun”.
by Anonymous | reply 195 | March 11, 2022 5:49 AM |

Yes, Maureen seems to be having a blast.
Did Karson ping for anyone else?

I knew FJ immediately, being born and raised in Massachusetts. Maureen, hailing from NH, would also be familiar with the legend of Lizzie Borden.
Maureen has to be one of the luckiest champions ever.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | March 11, 2022 2:41 PM |
Lizzie Borden is another one of those subjects that seems to come up a lot on the show. If it involves women in Massachusetts, Borden will usually be the correct guess.

by Anonymous | reply 201 | March 11, 2022 3:17 PM |
R201, They had a problem with Austin Rogers and his continuous cussing while playing, which they edited out.
I'm sure the producers warned him to knock it off.

R202 . . .
"He was even able to warm-up to the show's longtime host, Alex Trebek, who was at first put-off by 38-year-old scruffy rapscallion for his colorful language.

by Anonymous | reply 223 | March 12, 2022 1:26 AM |
Harvey Milk came to me in a flash about three seconds before the time ran out. The 'multicolored pennant' and 1978 death made me go: "......Gay person who died in the late seventies .......... oh shit, I think it's Harvey Milk!" That was a good clue as I had never before known the origin of the Pride flag.

Yes, they truly shoot five episodes a day, R210. Five on Monday and five more on Tuesday, so they have two weeks’ worth of episodes done in two days. This means that Maureen’s first win was the first episode taped that day and her loss was the last that same day.
by Anonymous | reply 225 | March 12, 2022 3:42 AM |

Depends how you define “male.”
by Anonymous | reply 232 | March 12, 2022 4:18 PM |
Yes, there have been three Jeopardy males in the past. WOF is far more skewed towards three females, with three males there almost unheard-of.
I'm blaming Covid for the contestant pool this season. R230. They have to take those who are available to tape live appearances in L. A.
by Anonymous | reply 233 | March 12, 2022 4:35 PM |
In 2022 so far R230, there have been 50 episodes. Here’s the breakdown of contestant demographics:
2 Women/1 Man (counting Amy Schneider as a woman)
28 times
2 Men/1 Woman
18 times
3 Women
4 times
3 Men
0 Times
by Anonymous | reply 234 | March 12, 2022 4:58 PM |
Other demographics for this year: (returning champs not counted multiple times)
Men - 48
Women - 53
Under 40 - 72
Over 40 - 29
Caucasian - 71
Asian - 17
Black - 7
Hispanic - 6

I started watching the show religiously about four years ago. I don't recall ever seeing three cis male contestants on the same day. There's always been at least one woman. I do recall seeing several games in which all three contestants were women. I just assumed it was some sort of diversity initiative to make sure women were always represented.
by Anonymous | reply 236 | March 12, 2022 5:11 PM |
Come to think of it, the only time I've seen a game with all male contestants was during the TOC or other tournaments, but not in a regular game.

What a mess of a game. Very disappointing after yesterday's game being so good.
Maureen was so far in the red, she was scared to guess and go further in the red. I don't know whether Maureen was drunk, but she certainly was loopy. Maybe that's her standard behavior.
I knew Final instantly thanks to the 1978 date. But I also know the history of the rainbow flag, which had been created specifically for the summer 1978 SF Pride Parade. Harvey was assassinated in Nov. 1978.
by Anonymous | reply 239 | March 12, 2022 9:23 PM |
With all the money Maureen had won previously, what did she have to lose in the last 1/2 of the game by pressing her button even before knowing if she had the answer?
by Anonymous | reply 240 | March 12, 2022 11:37 PM |
R239, The only other possibility for FJ would have been Mayor George Moscone, who was also murdered by Dan White along with Harvey.
Moscone was straight, but gay friendly.

I remember little of what I learned about WWI, but I would've guess FJ correctly only because the answer was the title of a Peter Weir film set during the war.
And one last thing: Aretha Franklin & The Supremes?

Yes, R254, he was wearing a tie. There's someone on Twitter who tracks what the contestants wear, with special emphasis on whether the men wore a tie or not. She also has a spreadsheet of which ties Ken wore and when. Not sure if links to Twitter will come through, so I'll put it in the post following this one.

Yes, R258. I don't know why my link to her was removed. She kindly comments daily on the contestant's outfits and I think she sells Jeopardy t-shirts on Etsy. The spreadsheet on the ties blows my mind. She must have some sort of OCD autistic thing going on to be so interested in the minutiae of Ken's ties.

Ariel San Jose.
That is the perfect name for a DLer.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | March 16, 2022 12:00 AM |
R262 - I know gay men who would do that, though for different reasons (suit fetish).
I did get Final, surprised no one knew Sebelius.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | March 16, 2022 12:03 AM |
Even though I knew Sebelius, I think classical clues re Scandinavians are more likely to stump people than other composers.
I did get Reservoir Dogs (because I hated the movie and turned it off after the unfortunately memorable ear slicing scene), Battle of Jutland and The Gap (because I immediately thought of DL Gap Playlist threads).
Ariel was a bit of an airhead.
One last thing: [bold]iron[/bold] airplanes?
by Anonymous | reply 265 | March 16, 2022 12:46 AM |
Could not believe no one knew The Gap answer!
If Matt was still there, he would have known it.

When I think of Scandinavian composers, I think of Edvard Grieg and his Song of Norway.

I guess you've forgiven her for thinking Aretha Franklin was the lead singer of The Supremes, but I don't know that I ever can.

Yes, I'm liking Amy a lot.
I also like Simi. She made an impressive comeback at the end.
And Ariel? Well, well, well, at least he had $200 going into Final.
Yes, I knew Jutland, Reservoir Dogs, and The Gap .
As for Final, tornado seemed like the only answer.

How did you get a look at Evan before the show started, r278?

Evan was hot. Apparently, his mom thought so too.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | March 17, 2022 12:11 AM |
FJ was horribly worded, but I figured it out at the last minute, despite the terrible grammar.

R279 - just go to the Jeopardy website and you can see who the contestants are for the week.
I thought Evan was cute as well, and it didn't hurt that he sounded gay.
FJ was stupidly worded because they were quoting McConaughey.
by Anonymous | reply 283 | March 17, 2022 1:02 AM |
Yeah, the use of the "Dazed and Confused" title in the quite was quite confusing, but if that's what McConaughey said, then that's what he said.

Amy was really off her game tonight. That's a shame, she had such potential. I thought she'd stick around for a while.
But I liked Katie and I liked Evan as well.
I knew Final instantly. The only answer to any Dazed and Confused question involving Matthew McConaughey is going to be "alright, alright, alright."
I also knew Spiro Agnew.
by Anonymous | reply 289 | March 17, 2022 3:53 AM |

Ken actually has some funny quips when during the meet and greet with the contestants, and occasionally during the game, too. Most of the them land, too.

Mayim's show "Kat" was one of the clues yesterday! FIrst time a current host is referenced (other than Alex's favorite something or other or where Alex was from, etc.)?
by Anonymous | reply 301 | March 17, 2022 6:22 PM |
I would like Ken to be the permanent host too. I hate that ugly bitch Mayim. she has zero sense of style. she wears horrible colors. did you see the the awful outfit she wore to the critic's choice awards? that color was really a nightmare! she must be colorblind.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | March 17, 2022 6:29 PM |
He wouldn’t replace Mayim. She’s the host for special events. He’d replace Mike Richards who lasted a week.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | March 17, 2022 6:34 PM |
I have always preferred Ken over Mayim.
It's fine to let her host the special events, but let Ken host the daily game.
He wouldn’t replace Mayim. She’s the host for special events. He’d replace Mike Richards who lasted a week.
What are you talking about? Before Ken's current run, Mayim hosted the regular show for many weeks in a row, not just "special events."
by Anonymous | reply 305 | March 17, 2022 8:02 PM |
R304, Sometimes Mayim likes to be on top.
by Anonymous | reply 306 | March 17, 2022 8:04 PM |
That was because they fired Mike and Ken was not available, r305.
by Anonymous | reply 307 | March 17, 2022 8:16 PM |
r305 The original plan for the 2021-22 season was for Mike Richards to host the daily game and for Mayim to host the special games like the recent College Tournament that aired in primetime on ABC.
But that plan got thrown out of whack when Mike Richards got fired after just a week. Fired not only from his hosting job but also his EP job.
The show had to scramble to find someone to fill in for Mike Richards. They called Mayim in to host about 8 weeks worth of daily game episodes. However, then she had to go off to film her sitcom, Call Me Kat.
That's when they brought Ken Jennings back to serve as host. Since November, Ken has hosted most of the time, except for a few weeks in late January/early Feb. when Mayim filled in again. And of course, Mayim also hosted the previously mentioned College Tournament.
by Anonymous | reply 308 | March 17, 2022 8:19 PM |
Thanks, R307, but my point was that Mayim has not just been hosting "special events."
by Anonymous | reply 309 | March 17, 2022 8:19 PM |
Thanks, R308, but I'm quite confused. Has there been an official announcement that Ken Jennings is now the permanent host or the show, and that Mayim will only host for "special events?" Or have the producers not made a final, official decision as of yet?
by Anonymous | reply 310 | March 17, 2022 8:22 PM |
Why is it that when Mayim is hosting, she’s introduced as “And now, the host of Jeopardy, Mayim Bialik”, but when Ken is hosting he get introduced as “And now, hosting Jeopardy, Ken Jennings”?
It sounds like Mayim is the full-time host and Ken is filling in for her, but maybe she negotiated that like a “and/as” credit in a sitcom intro.
by Anonymous | reply 311 | March 17, 2022 8:23 PM |
The announcer refers to Maim as the host of Jeopardy. When Ken is on, he is "hosting Jeopardy." I think Mayim is the host and Ken is the filler. Myself, I'd prefer Buzzy.
by Anonymous | reply 312 | March 17, 2022 8:24 PM |
Mayim is an official host of Jeopardy. She was announced as an official host in August, at the same time that Mike Richards was announced.
Ken has never been announced as an official host. At the moment, Ken is just filling in.
That is why there is a difference in how they are introduced.
While it is widely speculated that Ken will be made the permanent host of the daily game, an official announcement of that has not been made yet.
And I doubt the show will make any official announcement of that until May when we learn if Fox will renew Call Me Kat for another season.
by Anonymous | reply 313 | March 17, 2022 8:29 PM |
Ken had an audible reaction to the category "Sports With No Balls".
by Anonymous | reply 314 | March 17, 2022 8:36 PM |
Thanks, R313. What you wrote was and is my understanding of the situation, but I was confused because some people here are insisting otherwise.
by Anonymous | reply 315 | March 17, 2022 8:48 PM |
It was also announced that Mike would be the regular show host and Mayim would host prime time specials.

The new champ is cute.
A decent game, but they sure missed a lot of questions.
by Anonymous | reply 317 | March 18, 2022 12:00 AM |
Wow... Finn gives meaning to the term "paleface"!
I first learned of Silent Spring from a Peanuts strip, where Lucy was reading it. Knew Poland had been divided among those three empires, felt 100 years old that none of them knew Born Free was about a lion, and fear a woke backlash for Finn mixing up Zulus and Boxers like that.
"Margaret" was on our school summer reading list in the early 70s when it came out. I suppose one could say it and Silent Spring were both... scientific, I suppose, though Margaret is fiction.
by Anonymous | reply 318 | March 18, 2022 12:05 AM |
Would they have had the SPORTS WITH NO BALLS category if Mayim had been hosting?
by Anonymous | reply 319 | March 18, 2022 12:47 AM |
Silent Spring is one of those books that frequently gets used by the writers. Although, I have to admit I didn't recall it this time.
by Anonymous | reply 320 | March 18, 2022 1:08 AM |
I didn’t think Silent Spring would be the FJ answer because it was a Jeopardy answer earlier this week. Are the writers lazy?
by Anonymous | reply 321 | March 18, 2022 2:51 AM |
Decent game, but they did indeed miss a lot. I liked Joel, but never really warmed to Finn.
I knew Silent Spring instantly for Final. It does seem to be a favorite of the writers as well.
Just because it came up as an answer recently doesn't mean anything. The questions could have been written several years ago. My understanding is that each day's puzzles are randomly selected by a computer.
by Anonymous | reply 322 | March 18, 2022 7:19 AM |
The “Mother Courage and Her Children” answer was pretty easy. Meryl has appeared on the stage so infrequently that I knew it immediately.

I think the computer is smart enough not to be redundant. It's programmed that way.

In case you may have missed it, Michael was damned cute!
Final was so obvious that I had an idea of the question from the category alone before it was revealed. These that they missed seemed obvious to me: hya = what, tagine, Easy Rawlins, Narragansett (coincidentally, I'd had some "Nasty" Naragansett beer today), dental hygenist, and loupe.

R329, the category was singers. The clue was: In 2021, This 95-year-old made the Guinness book by being the oldest recording artist to release an album of new material.
Two contestants, including the champion, guessed Diana Ross.
The correct response was Tony Bennett.

by Anonymous | reply 331 | March 22, 2022 12:09 AM |
I thought that Tony Bennett was such an obvious and easy answer because of all the news about his retirement last year due to Alzheimer's after his collaboration with Lady Gaga.

I knew Tony Bennett had new music in 2021, so that was my knee-jerk answer. It seemed too easy though, so my second guess was Harry Belafonte. I think I’d have written down Tony Bennett if I was in the hot seat.
I gay-gasped when someone guessed Diana Ross; I fully dialed my phone with a pencil when a second contestant said Diana Ross. She must have been irate watching.

by Anonymous | reply 362 | March 24, 2022 4:15 PM |
R361 Point taken... absolutely no excuse.
Context: Undergraduate ('72) and PhD in English ('76) at the #1 public university. All 20th century poetry at that time sprang from Prufrock (not, Pru Frock, ha).... that first line was like the first notes of Rite of Spring in 1914. Poetry would never be same. Stevens, Moore, Williams, Auden, Lowell, Plath, Sexton, Bishop - even then Beats like Ginsberg, Rexroth, Snyder... and the precious dope smokers like Ashberry, Berryman - none of it can be read without going through Eliot.
Now, it's all workshop poets, MFA poets, anti-patriarchy poets... some horrible, and some great. The Great White Hegemony has been smashed... but teaching/learning poetry without knowing Eliot is like studying art without knowing Picasso. Or so I think... but you see I am very wrong. No one knows Eliot or Waste Land anymore - witness Jeopardy and this thread.

R367 I periodically re-read Four Quartets. You know, to return to a place and know it as if for the first time.....
I used to think I'd be a great contestant on Jeopardy... but as I've gotten older my mind responds more slowly, and while I can guess/know 80% of the questions, I am slower than 100% of the contestants. I think great champions like James and Amy et. al. aren't just able to retrieve a lot of info in a lot of categories... they are QUICK to respond. I think Amy would immediately push the button before she knew the answer.

The Statue of Liberty is right beside Ellis Island in New York harbor. Thus, its one of the first images that new immigrants saw when they arrived in America.
Based on that, I guessed the answer was immigration.
by Anonymous | reply 384 | March 27, 2022 8:31 PM |
R384, even if the Statue of Liberty weren't located so close to Ellis Island, the answer to FJ should still have been obvious, because I think everyone knows the inscription on the statue, and it's all about immigrants.
by Anonymous | reply 385 | March 27, 2022 9:20 PM |
But it wasn’t an FJ R385.
by Anonymous | reply 386 | March 27, 2022 9:31 PM |
You're right R386, it was a Daily Double, and apparently R385 simply "misspoke" when noting it as an FJ, but there was still time enough to process that the Statue of Liberty, with the famous Emma Lazarus poem engraved on the base, would become a symbol for an immigration law organization.
by Anonymous | reply 387 | March 27, 2022 10:37 PM |
Thanks, R387. I apologize for misidentifying the clue as a Final Jeopardy answer.

I'm liking Ryan! Very cute theater director. He looks so familiar....did anyone catch his last name?
by Anonymous | reply 389 | March 28, 2022 11:22 PM |
Steel drum is to steel guitar as mule is to ox.
Was hoping Ryan would pull it out. Champ is booooring!
Had no idea of final.
by Anonymous | reply 390 | March 29, 2022 12:04 AM |
So many wrong answers tonight, but steel drum and mule responses have to be the dumbest ones we were subjected to since Diana Ross was in her 90s.
Naturally I wanted Ryan with the pretty eyes to win, but instead we have to continue to endure the most dour champ I've seen in a while.
I've seen perkier people at wakes.
by Anonymous | reply 391 | March 29, 2022 1:08 AM |
I guessed Satchel Paige, but was pretty sure I was wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 392 | March 29, 2022 1:11 AM |
I really thought Ryan was gonna win this one.

I love Ryan. I’m going to wait for him.
by Anonymous | reply 394 | March 29, 2022 2:25 AM |
No idea for FJ, but I did get water buffalo. Ryan was cute and a good sport. Mayim's hair and glasses looked great tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 395 | March 29, 2022 3:13 AM |
Was really rooting for Ryan. He's attractive and personable.
Dour is a very good word to describe Jackie. Didn't warm to her last week. But tonight, I was so hoping she'd be a one-day champ. Maybe tomorrow.
Had no idea on Final, but I'm not a baseball person.
by Anonymous | reply 396 | March 29, 2022 6:32 AM |
Jackie is one of the first female villains on Jeopardy. She seems like an entitled cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 397 | March 29, 2022 10:36 PM |
The voice of that blonde bitch on Friday physically hurt me. Glad to have Mayim back.
by Anonymous | reply 398 | March 29, 2022 10:41 PM |
Ugh. Boring game with Jackie running roughshod over the two potted plants who were on the stage with her. Plus, there were a lot of unanswered questions. A lot.
by Anonymous | reply 399 | March 29, 2022 11:57 PM |
The two vanquished newcomers seemed to be battling it out for Dumbest Contestant of the Year.
With the Debbie Dour nearing the $100K mark, I imagine that after her run, we're going to be subjected to seeing her yet again during the ToC games.
by Anonymous | reply 400 | March 30, 2022 12:52 AM |
Close your eyes when listening to Jackie. You hear the amazingly annoying Kristen Wiig doing an SNL sketch.
by Anonymous | reply 401 | March 30, 2022 2:00 AM |
So if you are in second place when you get to FJ, and you have $3000, and the first place person (e.g. the warm and charming Jackie), do you bet Zero for FJ? If so why? What do you have to lose?
I never did understand the rationale for betting amounts when you are never going to build enough to win. I mean if he bet all the $3000.... if he loses, he's at zero, if he wins, he's at $6000.... but the second and third place players get a set amount, right? Somebody clarify this longstanding (decades!!) question for me.
by Anonymous | reply 402 | March 30, 2022 2:32 AM |
Always wondered about that, too, r402. Though the 2nd and 3rd placers do get different amounts in the end.
by Anonymous | reply 403 | March 30, 2022 2:33 AM |
I'm not sure I understand what you don't understand, R402 and R403. Some of the possible scenarios are complicated, but if a person in second or third place going into FJ has more than half of the front runner's dollar amount, they should bet it all, because yes, they literally have nothing to lose -- because, as noted, the two non-winners receive set amounts of money -- and they could easily win if the front runner gets the FJ answer (question) wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 404 | March 30, 2022 2:47 AM |
So my (R402) point is, the third place person should always bet 100% of what they have... and they don't. In third place I have 3000 the second place has 8000... why don't I bet all I have or if I only bet 1000 I am hoping that the second place bets more than 6000 and also doesn't ger FJ..???
by Anonymous | reply 405 | March 30, 2022 3:12 AM |

I thought the FJ was Desdemona!
by Anonymous | reply 415 | March 30, 2022 4:38 PM |
Yep I was leaning towards Lady Macbeth, then saw "divine" in the clue, remembered "Get thee to a nunnery" and went with Ophelia. If I ever managed to get on the show, I'd never make to Final in the black anyway.

It sounds like this was a problem with your station. That's definitely not how the show aired in Los Angeles, where I am.
Perhaps someone at your station loaded the tape incorrectly. Did the show you saw start with the Jeopardy round, complete with the Contestant Chat? Or did it start with the Double Jeopardy round and Jackie already having a commanding lead?
by Anonymous | reply 417 | March 30, 2022 5:01 PM |
I'm English major and grad school. But I always suck so bad at the Shakespeare questions. I'm always amazed how many "civilians" get them right. I guessed Desdemona too. Jeez.
by Anonymous | reply 418 | March 30, 2022 5:03 PM |
R417, It aired on KGO7, the ABC channel in the SF area. They got through the first round, went to commercial and came back to final and ran the credits. Then after ads, rejoined Double Jeopardy in progress, which was almost done. Then they showed Final again.
by Anonymous | reply 419 | March 30, 2022 5:11 PM |
r419 Someone in the control booth somehow loaded the video wrong. No other explanation.
Show aired properly in Los Angeles, and apparently in the rest of the nation. So, the problem was at the KGO station. .
by Anonymous | reply 420 | March 30, 2022 5:33 PM |
Funny, because I though that Lady Macbeth seemed so obvious and easy.
by Anonymous | reply 421 | March 30, 2022 5:34 PM |
"Nunnery" was divine AND profane:
" Hamlet tells Ophelia to go to a nunnery, assaulting her with another double entendre insult. In the Protestant Elizabethan world, people used the word 'nunnery' as a euphemism for 'brothel.'"
by Anonymous | reply 422 | March 30, 2022 5:44 PM |
Today, the euphemism for brothel is "monastery."
by Anonymous | reply 423 | March 30, 2022 7:35 PM |
I couldn't decide between Desdemona or Ophelia. For some reason lady Macbeth never occurred to me. Not that I'm super well versed in Shakespeare though I did name one of my cats Caliban.

Reminder: Today is JeoparDAY.
It's the 58th anniversary of the show's debut. In celebration, they're letting you take the at home Anytime Test.
The Anytime Test is being offered TODAY ONLY. Can't take it tomorrow. It's 50 questions long. You have 15 second to answer each question before it moves to the next one. Takes about 15 minutes to take the whole test.
I just got through taking the Anytime Test. If was fun. Glad to have experienced it. But I'm not holding my breath that they will call me to be a contestant.

Joey was pretty smart and had fun. Jackie's big Daily Double wager in the first round is working well for her. I had just read an article about Josephine Baker, so I knew FJ.

I think I did fairly well but I too may have been done in by blanking. There was a question about an actress who married a ballet dancer and choreographer, and though OF COURSE the correct answer is Natalie Portman, I blanked and answered.....Anne Hathaway :-( For some very strange season, I sometimes get those two mixed up.
by Anonymous | reply 430 | March 31, 2022 1:01 PM |
There was a question about an actress who married a ballet dancer and choreographer, and though OF COURSE the correct answer is Natalie Portman
That question wasn't on the test I took, so clearly they mix the test questions up.
I left quite a few blank. But I wasn't really taking the test to be a contestant. I just did it because it was the 58th anniversary and they were pushing taking the test as part of the celebration.
As for Wednesday night's show, I was rooting for Joey. He had a good surge in the Double Jeopardy round. But really, I just want Jackie off my screen.
I knew Final was referring to Josephine Baker, but blanked on her name.

Where to begin...
As a Brooklyn native, he had no excuse for not having heard of Stonewall. Unless, he's from an intolerant background. Jackie looked totally stumped. Somehow, I felt our new champ would get it right.
Jackie looked like she was wearing what I knew of as a Guinea T as a kid.

I was rooting for stoic Jackie to stay on as a stony-eyed assassin. Her game had strategy. She seemed like she was starting to come out of her shell a bit, so im sorry she isn’t able to stick around for another couple games to have some fun.
Stonewall was super obvious, but non-gays probably don’t hear a bell ring when they hear of an activist uprising in1969.

"Height Ashbury".... it's always unclear to me what mispronunciation does or doesn't disqulaify.
Yeah, I'd just finally started to like Jackie... she wasn't a sociopath, just painfully introverted.
by Anonymous | reply 447 | April 1, 2022 2:25 AM |

I guessed Stonewall Bar, not Inn, which would likely not have been accepted.
by Anonymous | reply 450 | April 1, 2022 3:55 AM |
Jackie’s homage to Matt Amodio of starting with all the $1,000 clues was annoying as hell.

I'll be chuckling over the Radio City Music Hall Riots for some time to come.

Will be interesting to see if Evan is family. I suspect he is because he wrote Stonewall Inn, knowing the exact name of the bar. Others might have just answered Stonewall.

I didn’t get the “Oldsmobile” question. The only name preceding ‘88’ I knew of is Delta, as in the ‘Oldsmobile Delta 88.’ I get that the ornament was a rocket, but didn’t she ask for the make of auto that used the that ornament & used the name ‘88’?
by Anonymous | reply 461 | April 2, 2022 12:03 PM |
Nell (alas) could win a Zooey Deschanel lookalike contest. She's already quite annoying. And had an idiotic personal story.

R461, I thought of Delta 88 also. I think that was one of the cars I took Driver's Ed in. (Yeah, I'm old)
by Anonymous | reply 463 | April 2, 2022 12:36 PM |
Well, Nell Zooey's personal story might not have been her choice to tell. Sounds; ile the producers ask the contestants to come up with "wacky" stuff that's happened to them and they just go from there. So unless a contestant sticks around for several days, not much is really revealed about their personal lives.

I look forward to seeing her play against Amy.
by Anonymous | reply 473 | April 3, 2022 2:28 AM |

Ian, the man in the middle, looked increasingly frustrated when he couldn't buzz in first.
by Anonymous | reply 475 | April 3, 2022 2:35 AM |
I'm still not sure I completely understand the buzzer rules. Does the nod go to the first person who buzzes in immediately after the host finishes reading the last word of the question, and if anyone buzzes in before that, it doesn't count and they have to buzz in again? That can sometimes make the game more about buzzer timing than knowledge, but I guess if it was okay to buzz in while the question was still being read, there might be lots more wrong answers, and the producers wouldn't want that.
by Anonymous | reply 476 | April 3, 2022 4:17 AM |
Hmmmm.......surely one can buzz in before the question has finished being read?

by Anonymous | reply 478 | April 3, 2022 1:10 PM |
Those buzzer s must be timed to a milisecond. How did they do that in the first years of the show when the technology wasn't there?
by Anonymous | reply 479 | April 3, 2022 2:33 PM |
There's a light off camera that the viewers cannot see.
It is timed to shine as soon as the last word of the clue is read by the host and only then can the contestants buzz in.

Apparently they edited out footage of Mayim and Johnny Gilbert slapping Mattea after her third ad-lib comment.
by Anonymous | reply 505 | April 6, 2022 4:40 AM |
I like Mattea. Her commentary was getting annoying however.
Yes, the game of Life was fairly obvious for Final.
Mayim seems to be dressing better. They must have hired a wardrobe consultant for her.
I didn’t like that question. Life is relevant to everyone on the planet, but not the game “Life.” It’s geared to middle class Americans.
I had the same reaction, but I believe the clue said it was the creator of the game who had stated that the game is relevant to everyone on the planet, and of course, that doesn't necessarily make it true.

Text: Reuben Klamer, who passed away in 2021 at age 99, developed this game relatable to “literally everyone on Earth”
They did use quotation marks, but it could have been clearer.

Mattea is obviously very well educated, but damn, she's annoying. Why am I not surprised to learn that she has seven tattoos? She must be a real trial to spend time with.

I thought Mattea was less irritating today than yesterday.
Why was the guy in the middle even there?
I thought Mattea was less irritating today than yesterday.
Well, everything is relative :-) At least she didn't talk over Mayim today. But her speech is so affected, and why does she sometimes make that weird hand gesture? What does that body language tell us?
Both of the other contestants were pretty pathetic, especially the guy in the middle. But at least he didn't end up in the red. For a long while, I thought that's what was going to happen.

Confusing Lake Mead with Great Salt Lake, and Mary as Elizabeth's mother, were cringe-worthy to me. Being an old guy, I knew the answer was Laura Nyro.
Basically, Mattea was playing against a pair of potted plants.

I don’t know R515. My philodendron could beat that guy in the middle.

I find Mattea insufferable.
by Anonymous | reply 517 | April 7, 2022 1:29 AM |
Don't know if you need to be elderly to recognize Laura Nyro.
And the guy in the middle was a college professor??
by Anonymous | reply 518 | April 7, 2022 1:31 AM |
R518 Yeah, I've lived too long. How can a random group of three smart people not know Laura Nyro ? John Knox they know, but not Nyro.
by Anonymous | reply 519 | April 7, 2022 2:18 AM |
As soon as the photo of Laura Nyro appeared I knew not one of the m would guess her name.
by Anonymous | reply 520 | April 7, 2022 2:42 AM |
I guessed San Marino; I had no idea Monaco had such a small population.
by Anonymous | reply 521 | April 7, 2022 5:42 AM |
Yes, Mattea was slightly less irritating today. Someone must have talked to her about toning it down.
I adore Laura Nyro, so obviously got knew that clue. But I, too, knew that none of the contestants would get her.
I initially guessed Lichtenstein (sp?) for Final but was debating about whether it might be San Marino. Then at the last second, I changed my answer to Monaco.
by Anonymous | reply 522 | April 7, 2022 6:24 AM |
Monaco seemed too obvious.
I guessed Luxembourg. My husband guessed Andorra.

He got the literature questions right.
by Anonymous | reply 525 | April 7, 2022 2:01 PM |
Monaco was obvious to me (a geography nerd) because it's surrounded on three sides by France and is very close to Italy. Plus, it's ruled by the Grimaldi family.
Lichtenstein is between Austria and Switzerland, so that would make it pretty Germanic.
And San Marino is completely surrounded by Italy - and not far from the area where Fellini came from.
Luxembourg - much larger than all of those countries, and Andorra, combined - is too far north to have an Italian population of any significance.
One more thing: Middle Guy is even dumber than I initially thought.
I forgot he was a college professor.
Can you imagine having [bold]that[/bold] as your instructor?

In the 1950 Irving Berlin Broadway hit CALL ME MADAM, Ethel Merman played Washington, DC social arbiter Mrs. Sally Adams, who's appointed the Ambassadorship to Lichtenbourg. The character was based on Perle Mesta who actually was the Ambassador to Luxembourg, appointed by pal Harry Truman.

R542 Agreed. Only a certain "type" can make a nose ring work. Young, thin, beautiful, a few tasteful tats, perhaps carefully cultivated dreds. But on Mattea it just looks like a booger hanging down and she oughta wash her face.

I don't think it was a spoiler. I think it was expressing frustration over a player's irritating habits and wishful thinking that she will soon be gone.
That said, telling us who won a game in advance of the show airing in the majority of markets on the East Coast (which is 7 p.m Eastern) is definitely a spoiler. And a no-no here on DL.

Thank you, that's EXACTLY what I meant. I don't know how any of these petulant children with poor reading skills thought I was giving a spoiler, since as of this writing, the next game hasn't yet aired in ANY market. In the majority of markets, Jeopardy airs at 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. In fact, in the Eastern and Pacific time zones, it only airs at 7 or 7:30 p.m,
However, in the Central time zone, and to a lesser extent the Mountain time zone, it airs throughout the day.
See accompanying chart for break down of exactly when it airs. Lots of detailed info there.
Earliest is airs anywhere in the USA is 11 a.m. (Central) in two small markets -- Jackson, Tenn. and Tyler, Texas.
Earliest Jeopardy airs in a large market is 11:30 a.m. (Central) in Houston. .
Other markets highlights include:
Airs at 3 p.m. in Oklahoma City.
Airs at 3:30 p.m. in Memphis, Birmingham and Des Moines.
Also airs at 4 p.m. in Austin and Kansas City.
Airs at 4:30 p.m. (Central) in Minneapolis, St. Louis, Little Rock, Tulsa, Wichita and San Antonio.

Abigail showed early promise during the first round. And Tom — who is NOT a roofer — (that was a bizarre non-story), was somewhat good looking. But they both descended to potted plant status during Double Jeopardy while Mattea ran up the score.
FJ was incredibly easy, which was obvious because they all got it, and likely so did much of the audience.
The way that Mattea poses her answers to the clues, especially when she screws up her face at the end, is very annoying.

Can I just ask -WTF would anyone come to this thread before seeing that evening's show??
Can I also say - I don't understand why Mattea only wagered $2000 for FJ when she had enough to wager at least &10,000 and still win, even if the other two had the correct answer and she didn't. What is the thought behind that? What am I missing? And the category seemed to be within her wheelhouse.
by Anonymous | reply 567 | April 9, 2022 1:59 AM |
What’s with that Vegas lounge act thing she does with hands?
My mind sometimes goes in weird directions, and tonight Mattea's flapping hands reminded me of some dinosaur movie I saw when I was a kid - specifically one in which a T-Rex's forelimbs flapped around whenever it moved.
On the night of Mattea's second win, I posted up above that I found her less irritating than the previous day.
I take it back.
She's become more irritating.
She need to go and take her flapping forearms with her.

Her hands are incredible small also. They remind me of that Lawrence Welk character Kristen Wiig used to do on SNL.

I didnt watch the whole show tonight -- I bailed at the start of Double Jeopardy because I couldn't stand to watch Mattea bulldozing the other two contestants for one second longer -- but your question shows a poor understanding of the game. While the two non-winners of each game each get a set amount of money to take home, rather than their actual totals, that of course is not the case with the winner, who gets whatever amount he or she has won during the game. So, since the players have to wager before seeing the FJ clue -- which is not the case with any other clues in the game except for the Daily Doubles -- it's perfectly understandable why someone would make a conservative wager even if they would still have won if they'd bet a far larger amount and still gotten the answer (question) wrong. In fact, a conservative wager is far easier to understand those circumstances than if the scores were closer going into FJ, because when that happens, each contestant has to bet more to try to insure a win. Understand?
by Anonymous | reply 570 | April 9, 2022 3:14 AM |
R567, Mattea also had to consider whether her total today would put her over $100,000 and set her up for a possible ToC spot. If she bet too much and got it wrong, she'd have to hope to win her next game to get there.
by Anonymous | reply 571 | April 9, 2022 3:27 AM |
Is the requirement for making ToC a five-game winning streak OR making it past $100K?
by Anonymous | reply 572 | April 9, 2022 3:34 AM |
All 5+ game-winners, plus the highest scores for the remaining spots.
by Anonymous | reply 573 | April 9, 2022 4:33 AM |
I think it's both -- if they don't have enough 5-game winners then it's 4-gamers in order of the amount won.
*All 4-time and over winning players starting from 01/05/21 will be eligible for a future Tournament of Champions.
Tonight was her 4th win, so she's going to want to make enough to put her higher on that list in case she doesn't get the guarantee of a 5th game. Betting more just because she could against these opponents could have put her in a vulnerable position in the long run if she had missed. She's currently 2nd on the 4-game list behind Jackie (our Margaret is 4th with her $79,000+).
And regarding the ToC tracker:
Presence on this list does NOT guarantee an invitation to compete in the Tournament of Champions. Other eligibility rules apply and final selection is up to the producers' sole discretion.
by Anonymous | reply 574 | April 9, 2022 4:33 AM |
Yes, she bet conservatively to make sure she'd be over $100,000, regardless of whether she got Final correct.
Yes, Final was so obvious. "Please sir, may I have some more?"
Mattea certainly is smart. Knows a lot of subjects. Or it just that they put her up against such weak challengers?
Tom was cute. I initially had hopes for him to win, but they quickly faded away.
by Anonymous | reply 575 | April 9, 2022 5:48 AM |
I thought there were many tough questions tonight, but I did get Juliette Lewis and American Masters. And FJ was a gimme. Mayim seems to have warmed to Mattea, maybe because she is like an annoying Big Bang character.

Yes, and Mayim even pointed this out before the game started. All the more reason why the DL comment "I don't understand why Mattea only wagered $2000 for FJ when she had enough to wager at least &10,000 and still win" indicates a total lack of comprehension of how the game works.

The "courtroom drama" wasn't adapted for stage, the short story was.

Mattea’s extended asides have cost leaving clues up on the board at the end of the round. The other day there were six clues left including a whole, untouched category.
