Strange how R291 finds tennis boring but frequents these tennis threads to rhapsodize over Novaxx and disrespect Nadal. Obviously the Djokovic situation overshadowed and delayed the draw but here are the first-round men's matches that I'll be following:
Monfils v. Coria: Would love to see La Monf continue his resurgence and defeat Djokovic's 2022 AO hitting partner.
Escobedo v. Bublik: Both players haven't met their potential yet, hoping to see Escobedo pull this one out.
FAA v. Ruusuvuori: Huge Felix fan here. He and Emil have never played before at the ATP level.
Pouille v. Moutet: Lucas over the obnoxious wannabe rapper
PCB v. up-and-comer Etcheberry
Alcaraz v. Tabilo: Curious to see how consistent Alcaraz will be after his USO run
Lajovic v. Fucsovics: One of the likeable Serbs, should be a close match but both of these players run hot and cold
Harris v. Vukic: Harris is one of the nicest guys in the sport and can run down almost anything, haven't seen Vukic play before
Opelka v. Anderson: Battle of the Gargantuas
Djere v. Shapo: Rooting for Djere as the underdog
Hurkacz v. Gerasimov: Big Hubie fan here, Gerasimov can be tricky
McDonald v. Milojevic: McDonald's another unsung American yet to reach his potential
Sousa v. Sinner: It'd be nice to see struggling Joao upset Sinner, who's got an uncanny game but the personality of a dial tone on court.
Ymer v. Tsitsipas: Hoping to see Ymer oust the prima donna.
Popyrin v. Rinderknech: Pop's my favorite Aussie player, both he and Rinderknech are unpredictable.
Cressy v. Isner: Wanna see Maxime make this Isner's last Oz
Ugo v. Gasquet: Humbert should send faltering Gasquet away
