Novak Djokovic has visa cancelled, told to leave Australia PART 2.

Previous thread was closed.

Will Novaxx get to stay and play the Australian Open?

by Anonymousreply 601January 13, 2022 5:09 PM

Thanks OP.

by Anonymousreply 1January 11, 2022 5:26 PM

You're a doll, OP. Unlike NoVaxxx, who is an evil cunt.

by Anonymousreply 2January 11, 2022 5:30 PM

I am the one from the other thread who asked why they don't call Novax's bluff and test him for antibodies. Thank you to the poster who drafted the response explaining why that is ultimately unnecessary. Very helpful post.

There are more holes in Novax's visa application than swiss cheese. Lies, more lies and falsified documents.

by Anonymousreply 3January 11, 2022 5:32 PM

I really hope he'll have to leave Oz. People there have endured a lot these past two years -- only to be graced with a completely loon who doesn't give a fuck about anybody but himself.

He can go fuck himself. With a tennis racket, if he likes that.

It is so obvious that he's lying about COVID and the government is helping him. Corruption at the highest level and I hope they all pay for it.

by Anonymousreply 6January 11, 2022 5:37 PM

Are they really investigating him for lying on the immigration form?! I hope so (crossing all fingers and toes)

I was read that --giving “false or misleading information” is a “serious offense” and, if he is convicted, could come with a jail sentence of up to 12 months.

I mean, they have to investigate right? So many news outlets are saying he was in spain etc when he said he wasn't on the forms.

Australian Border Force investigating whether Djokovic lied on entry form

From CNN’s Angus Watson in Sydney, Australia

The Australian Border Force (ABF) is investigating whether Novak Djokovic submitted a false travel declaration ahead of arrival in Australia, a source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN.

Djokovic declared he had not traveled and would not do so in the 14 days leading to his arrival in Australia on Wednesday January 5, according to a travel declaration submitted as evidence to the court determining whether he would be allowed to remain in Australia.

Various pictures taken during that two-week period appear to show Djokovic in both Spain and Serbia.

While court documents show that Tennis Australia filled out the travel declaration on Djokovic’s behalf, the information used was provided by Djokovic, an ABF officer at Melbourne airport on January 5 determined.

The penalty for submitting a false travel declaration carries a maximum penalty of 12 months prison, according to the Australian Department of Home Affairs website.

Djokovic’s media team has not responded to CNN’s requests for comment.

The ABF investigation comes as Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke considers whether to exert his personal power to cancel Djokovic’s reinstated visa.

by Anonymousreply 8January 11, 2022 5:50 PM

Do are they deporting this douche or not?

by Anonymousreply 9January 11, 2022 5:51 PM

* so *

by Anonymousreply 10January 11, 2022 5:52 PM

R9 It's awaiting the decision of immigration minister Alex Hawke... He is probably frantically conducting focus groups and deciding whether the fall out with Serbia is worth it. Lol.

by Anonymousreply 11January 11, 2022 5:54 PM

“Fall out with Serbia”? Are they going to raise tariffs on kangaroo skins?

by Anonymousreply 12January 11, 2022 5:56 PM

I hope they hurry up and give him the boot. Anti-vaxxers will take it as a huge win if they don't.

by Anonymousreply 13January 11, 2022 5:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 15January 11, 2022 5:57 PM

the Australian Open draw comes out on Thursday so I imagine they'd have to decide sometime on Wednesday whether to kick him out or not

it'd be even crazier if the draw came out first and then they decided to deport him lol

damn I hope he doesn't get to play. With each day more and more lies of his are exposed

by Anonymousreply 16January 11, 2022 6:06 PM

When are they excepted to make this decision? I want to know now!!

by Anonymousreply 17January 11, 2022 6:08 PM

Another option for the Aussies to boot him would be running his PCR tests at a high cycle threshold Ct of 35+ virtually guaranteeing a "positive" result. Hasta la vista.

by Anonymousreply 18January 11, 2022 6:13 PM

Hawke looks like Dan Jansen.

by Anonymousreply 19January 11, 2022 6:15 PM

One racist frau was explaining to the other racist fraus on previous thread the Balkan cascade of trash, and it went like this: "It's a sort of Balkan cascade of trash. Slovenia and Croatia are a little higher, the smaller states in the middle then Serbia and Bulgaria are core trashy, with Romania and Albania even trashier at the bottom."

Besides the fact that it takes a trash to call others trash, particularly one whole peninsula (because Balkan is a peninsula), I must add that lady knows un cazzo about geography (or even less).

First of all, Slovenia is not on Balkans. It is a central European country. It was part of Yugoslavia, but has never been on Balkan peninsula. The westernmost Balkanic country is Croatia. Then further east is Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosova, Albania, North Macedonia, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria and European part of Turkey. I have seen maps including Slovenia on the peninsula, but it is wrong, because peninsula is a geographical term, not political, so Slovenia which was a part of socialist Yugoslavia is not situated on it, while Greece, who was part of capitalist Europe is.

I am from Croatia, and I will leave the decision which one of us is bigger trash to little DL fascists, but only an ignorant will call call Romania, a country which is home to Cioran, Eliade, Ionesco, Brancusi and the greatest contemporary European filmography bottom of Balkan trash.

by Anonymousreply 20January 11, 2022 6:22 PM

Thanks for the lesson, Croatian.

Your hero is still a lying cheat.

by Anonymousreply 21January 11, 2022 6:27 PM

R20 Romania is definitely trashy. Whenever I hear about Romanian immigrants in my country it's usually about pickpocketing (worst stories I read is about them targeting pensioners) or sending out their poor kids to beg.

by Anonymousreply 22January 11, 2022 6:27 PM

the people of a country are reflections of their leaders. If people have decent leaders then the majority of the people are decent.

by Anonymousreply 23January 11, 2022 6:32 PM

R14 - Alex Hawke is handsome. I’d flip back and forth with him. But right now, I’m more concerned with his politics. He better come through, and chuck that lying Serbian fuck out of the country.

by Anonymousreply 24January 11, 2022 6:32 PM

R23 Au contraire, I think that people, at least majority choose their leaders.

by Anonymousreply 25January 11, 2022 6:34 PM

R15, get thee to an eye doctor. Hawke is handsome enough. And lose the CAPS….

🥸

by Anonymousreply 26January 11, 2022 6:35 PM

Now if only you could become fluent enough in English to rant coherently, Balki/R20.

by Anonymousreply 27January 11, 2022 6:38 PM

Alex Hawke (from Wikipedia):

Hawke is a personal opponent of same-sex marriage. He claimed that the family unit is the bedrock of society and that same sex marriage undermines that.[24] He called for a conscience vote in parliament on the issue. He was reported to have abstained from the final vote on the Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Act 2017, which legalised same-sex marriage.

by Anonymousreply 28January 11, 2022 6:39 PM

The animosity towards Balkanic people is so strong in some western and central European states, the same as in US it is towards Mexican immigrants. They remind me so much of Trump and his wall. This is why I find so funny that many posters here are cursing right wingers and projecting their sentiments on them, while bashing Balkanics in the most xenophobic manner.

by Anonymousreply 29January 11, 2022 6:41 PM

R29 Nah, all we have to do is look at Djokovic's crazy father and fans. The Balkans are trash and still are trash.

by Anonymousreply 30January 11, 2022 6:44 PM

Thanks for posting this, R28.

OK, so were dealing with a bigoted prick. I hope the passage of same sex marriage in Australia still frosts his uptight ass.

by Anonymousreply 31January 11, 2022 6:44 PM

R21 clearly has no idea about Balkan ethnic loyalties.

by Anonymousreply 32January 11, 2022 6:50 PM

Not that this xenophobia is not understandable. People are afraid that Balkanic people will take their jobs, change their way of life, they are slightly darker, more impulsive and wilder.

And there are so many of them, keeping together, helping each other, at least the ones from ex Yugoslavia. My partner's brother started to work in Austria and he is thrilled. They have little Yugoslavia there, everyone wants to help him and take care of him, Bosnian girls competing to invite him home for dinners.

And probably the more xenophobic people are scared, but they really aren't that dangerous. Except the ones in organized crime, but it is a different story.

by Anonymousreply 33January 11, 2022 6:57 PM

Given his heritage, would Novaxx be cut or uncut?

Datalounge will be able to prosecute him with a clear and biased mind with that information.

Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 34January 11, 2022 6:58 PM

R34 The majority of men in Serbia are uncircumcised. That doesn't mean he is but that's the stat.

by Anonymousreply 35January 11, 2022 7:03 PM

Oh, the Croatian anti vax cunt has also found this thread.

Funny this anti vaxxer fuckwit now comes up with this ridiculous waffle about South Slavic brotherly love when only a couple of years ago, back in the 90s, Croats and Serbs were killing each other.

I guess as long they've got a common enemy (vaccine!!! the West!!! global developments!!!!), they love to fuck each other in their nationalist asses.

by Anonymousreply 36January 11, 2022 7:06 PM

Someone late on the previous thread asked how many Serbs live in Australia - around 75,000 out of a population of 25 million. But they predominantly live in Melbourne and are very vocal at AO time.

Someone else asked why they can’t be deported - because they’re Australians.

by Anonymousreply 37January 11, 2022 7:10 PM

I have no patience for xenophobia and don’t see why we need to bash Serbs in general when we have a very bashable Serb in particular to discuss. Keep in mind the people we’re seeing go nuts in favor of Novaxx online and in-person aren’t necessarily representative of their more interesting, elegant, and intelligent countrymen.

The time difference between Australia and the US makes this decision seem to really drag - but it does seem like we should hear a final decision soon. (Boot him out for gods sakes!)

by Anonymousreply 38January 11, 2022 7:34 PM

He should be kicked out! He lied on the immigration forms!

If they don't make an example of him, then every tom, dick and harry is gonna be doing the same and there will be chaos.

by Anonymousreply 39January 11, 2022 7:49 PM

I think 1 nuance in this situation that is going over some people's heads is that the Aussie government is right wing but pro-vaccination which is a big departure from the far right movements/voices across the world. So we're seeing a right-wing government get attacked by right wingers in the US, UK and elsewhere. There are also some apolitical people who are crazy antivaxxers too

by Anonymousreply 40January 11, 2022 7:54 PM

[quote]The majority of men in Serbia are uncircumcised. That doesn't mean he is but that's the stat.

Homophobic frau at R36 is disturbed by Balkanic men interfucking each other in the asses. The war is over and now it is time for some loving again.

But I think you are even more disturbed by the fact that Austria has become little Balkans. They love you more than you love them. A Croatian guy I know has moved to Vienna from Germany and he says it is great there after Germany, he felt at home immediately. I can't help you, you should build a wall like Trump.

Be happy that at least i won't come, I prefer the Mediterranean climate.

What I don't love are dumb cunts like you are, ti prkno.

by Anonymousreply 46January 11, 2022 8:34 PM

R46 I thought that was your problem, you like them and are bitter you can't have them. Bet they aren't crazy about some boring old Austrian frau. And please leave me out, I am not a bisexual you are looking for on DL.

by Anonymousreply 47January 11, 2022 8:41 PM

Hey Croatian I’ve just realised that when I read your posts I do so in Borat’s voice. I’m not sure if it’s your intent but read as satire, they are hilarious!

If not they’re mostly unintelligible.

I’m not a bisexual Austrian frau but I’m sure you’ll call me that anyway.

I dont know how to make a poll -- can someone start taking bets? I don't think he will get tossed out now.

by Anonymousreply 56January 11, 2022 8:55 PM

R52 I can assure you that I’m not R51. It’s actually very easy to check, if you know how.

by Anonymousreply 57January 11, 2022 8:56 PM

Theres no way he wont play now. All this back and forth wont keep him from playing.

by Anonymousreply 58January 11, 2022 8:57 PM

And in case he does, his posts are even more embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 59January 11, 2022 9:06 PM

by Anonymousreply 62January 11, 2022 9:10 PM

R62 will he have to leave the country? Seems unlikely now.

by Anonymousreply 63January 11, 2022 9:11 PM

If he keeps on being a dick, I wouldn't put it past other important tournament organizers to exclude him from their tournaments.

Behaving like a spoilt, dumb brat, he ultimately harms nobody but himself. But he's too dumb and conceited to cognize that.

by Anonymousreply 64January 11, 2022 9:14 PM

R58/R63 Stop begging us to reassure you that he's going to get to stay. The matter is still under review. If Hawke decides that he cares that NoVax lied and submitted fake documentation (w/ the cooperation of the Serbian government), he will be booted. If he decides that it's not worth the trouble, he'll stay. It's as simple as that.

by Anonymousreply 68January 11, 2022 9:33 PM

Not begging anyone and definitely not hoping he stays.

by Anonymousreply 69January 11, 2022 9:44 PM

Hawke as Minister for Immigration has the discretionary power to overrule the court’s finding and cancel Novaxx’s visa. He and Karen Andrews, the Minister for Home Affairs are the only ministers with those discretionary powers.

My guess is that Hawke is looking for any other reasons to kick Novaxx out, which he continues to serve up on a platter. If ND does get expelled it will create a shitstorm - you saw how the ND supporters went crazy when he was first released. Just imagine if that is reversed. There are quite a few fanatics in that crowd.

It’s Wednesday morning here now and as the draw is on Thursday I’d be surprised if we don’t get a decision within the next eight hours.

by Anonymousreply 70January 11, 2022 9:56 PM

Considering that rushing the decision to cancel his visa is what led directly to the quashing, I'm sure Hawke is going to take his time, draw be damned. He can be deported any time.

by Anonymousreply 71January 11, 2022 10:15 PM

R67 thanks for the linked article. Der Speigel is a reputable source and the Germans are nothing if not thorough!

Put him on a cargo ship, drop him off in Montenegro, he can walk the rest of way.

by Anonymousreply 75January 11, 2022 11:04 PM

R72, Der Speigel updated its story to note that the time stamp information it is relying on “may also indicate when the text was downloaded from the servers,” in which case its whole analysis is wrong.

by Anonymousreply 76January 11, 2022 11:08 PM

Their findings indicate that, according to the ID numbers attached to the Serbian test results, the negative test was performed prior to the positive test and entered into the database. Not the other way around, as Djoković's lawyers claim and as the Serbian health documents would seem to indicate at first glance.

by Anonymousreply 77January 11, 2022 11:10 PM

Novax hates vaccines but loves juicing. What a dick!

by Anonymousreply 78January 11, 2022 11:15 PM

Djokotards debunked everything: the unix date timestamp only refers to the time and date the information was downloaded...ID is different because of different other lab. Simple and clear!

by Anonymousreply 79January 11, 2022 11:17 PM

R77, it suggests that but does not prove it. As R79 crudely puts it, the numbers could refer to IDs pre-assigned to specific test kits or they could be linked to different labs. It's a thin reed to base deportation on, if Hawke going to go for it.

by Anonymousreply 80January 11, 2022 11:34 PM

Why not use the blatantly clear violation of the agreement not to travel for 14 days?

by Anonymousreply 81January 11, 2022 11:37 PM

I'm going to bed and I expect to wake up to good news!!!

by Anonymousreply 82January 12, 2022 1:09 AM

by Anonymousreply 91January 12, 2022 2:38 AM

R88, that sounds like he’s going to wait until the semifinals before he decides . . .

by Anonymousreply 92January 12, 2022 2:41 AM

BS, BS, BS.

He is shoveling more shit upon himself and should shut up if he is to have any hope of remaining. He lied about not traveling. He's lying about testing positive. He's lying about it all. It's not even the crime, it's the coverup.

by Anonymousreply 93January 12, 2022 2:43 AM

If Djokovic gets to stay, does that mean the Czech doubles player and the official will get to come back/sue the Aus government?

by Anonymousreply 94January 12, 2022 2:44 AM

If he gets to stay, then why should anyone who hasn't been vaxxed prevented from travelling to Australia? If they let him stay then they'd essentially be opening their borders to the unvaxxed etc...

Hopefully they get with it and deport him soon.

by Anonymousreply 95January 12, 2022 2:46 AM

He's blaming his agent for ticking the wrong box. Such a fucking coward.

by Anonymousreply 96January 12, 2022 2:50 AM

From Paul Sakkal of The Age. 'This post' refers to Djokovic's just released Instagram statement.

In this post, Djokovic claims he learnt of his positive test result after the children's tennis event has attended maskless on the 17th. But his sworn court affidavit said he was "tested and diagnosed" on the 16th, with positive result being returned about 8pm that evening

by Anonymousreply 97January 12, 2022 3:01 AM

Stepping on his dick again, I see.

by Anonymousreply 98January 12, 2022 3:02 AM

Did he just perjure himself?

by Anonymousreply 99January 12, 2022 3:04 AM

[quote] But his sworn court affidavit said

This contradiction would be a big deal in a US court and would especially piss off a judge who very publicly ruled for the liar. It could even hurt his lawyers. I’m not sure if the same is true in Australia.

by Anonymousreply 100January 12, 2022 3:06 AM

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you're going to lie, at least be good at it. Never lie in Court.

by Anonymousreply 101January 12, 2022 3:10 AM

I guess it hinges on when he was notified about his positive result R100. So the diagnosis might have been on the 16th but he may not have found out until the 17th, after the kid's tennis thing. But he still went and did that interview knowing he was positive by that stage.

by Anonymousreply 102January 12, 2022 3:12 AM

It's mid afternoon in Melbourne right now, you'd think they'd be reaching a decision soon.

by Anonymousreply 103January 12, 2022 3:12 AM

Some of the reporters are saying his legal team sent a new brief to the official making the decision, which could delay things until tomorrow. (Ugh)

by Anonymousreply 104January 12, 2022 3:13 AM

No. In court docs, he states that he was tested and notified on Dec. 16 at 8pm. On instagram, he's saying it's the 17th because otherwise it looks like he exposed kids to COVID. If he lied in his sworn affidavit, does that void the cancellation quash?

At what point will he finally admit that there was no positive COVID test in December? He let the Serbs invent one for him, he didn't think that he'd ever be stopped at the border and questioned on it, and the existence of the fake test was never supposed to be made public. He wasn't prepared for people to dig. It's so obvious that he's a scummy liar.

by Anonymousreply 105January 12, 2022 3:17 AM

I've never seen this level of furor (and rightfully so) around any tennis player, and I've been following tennis since Borg and Vilas. Novaxx had better be watching his back for a very, very, very long time.

In May 2021, European news agency N1 reported that fake COVID-19 PCR results were able to be purchased in Serbia.

The news agency cited “sources at the Serbian government e-administration office” confirming a false PCR result bought by journalists on the black market was faked using Photoshop and a national personal ID number.

“I felt obliged to go ahead and conduct the ... interview as I didn’t want to let the journalist down, but did ensure I socially distanced and worse a mask except when my photograph was being taken,” he said of the December 18 interview, the day after he said he received a positive result. “I can’t interpret the medical implications but I’d say there is sufficient evidence to question the fidelity of his paperwork submitted to the Australian government relating to his positive test,” Mr Potter said.

“The time stamp contained within the QR code of his positive test does not match the paperwork as submitted. However, the timestamp of his negative test does match his submitted paperwork. As long as you are confident that the QR codes you have sent me for evaluation match those submitted to the Australian government, then I’m confident saying that Djokovic has legitimate questions to answer.”

German cyber group zerforschung also found that, according to the ID numbers attached to the test results, there are questions about the timing of Djokovic’s claimed positive result on December 16 and his claimed negative result on December 22. The identification number for the negative result is 50,000 numerations lower, suggesting it was recorded before the positive result.

“Based on these pieces of evidence, the most plausible explanation is that the positive test result was added to the official Serbian database on the 26th of December, and not on the 16th,” the IT experts told Der Spiegel.

Later on Wednesday morning (Australian time), the German cyber group said a “plausible explanation” for the timestamp discrepancy had come to light, but not for the discrepancy around the confirmation codes.

Pointing to web postings by Serbian users of the HackerNews forum, it was theorised that timestamps in the QR code and its linked URL were regenerated when the PDF was downloaded with a result. This could mean, for instance, that Djokovic or someone on his behalf re-downloaded one of his results on December 26.

“This explains the inconsistencies in the timestamps – but not in the confirmation codes – because they remain the same,” zerforschung wrote in a detailed blog post update and on Twitter.

“And the inconsistencies also exists in them. The confirmation codes are ascending, so the result from the 16th should have a lower number than the one from [the] 22nd. However, it is the other way around.”

Australian Border Force, Djokovic’s lawyers and Tennis Australia were contacted for comment.

The false document purchased by the investigative journalists, who were seeking to prove the ability to buy fake lab results, had the same Institute of Public Health of Serbia letterhead as the document provided by Djokovic. The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age does not suggest Djokovic purchased false test results.

There are so many lies it's impossible to figure out what is really going on. I suppose it is too much to hope that they let him get out on court, get booed at introductions, and then pull him off court in front of the crowd and deport him.

I have defended him in the past and this is hugely disappointing.

by Anonymousreply 114January 12, 2022 3:49 AM

I've been posting a lot in this thread (and the other one) and I promise to stop, but why do I feel like a bomb is about to go off? The implications here are kind-of massive. Serbia's COVID testing database is compromised. If they are faking POSITIVE tests, they are also faking negative ones. Which Serbs have they covered for with fake test results, allowing them to travel and infect others? Nothing is to be trusted from those people. This is state-sponsored Russian doping all over again.

Serbs, Croats, Bosnians and Montenegrins all speak the same language called Serbo-Croat with minute regional variations and accents but fully intelligible across the four countries. The labels are all about ego but the reality is, there is no Serbian or Croatian language.

From previous thread:

[quote]It's a sort of Balkan cascade of trash. Slovenia and Croatia are a little higher, the smaller states in the middle then Serbia and Bulgaria are core trashy, with Romania and Albania even trashier at the bottom.

Saying Slovenia and Croatia are a little higher is like picking the best fast food restaurant the best ghetto or best trailer park. The Balkans (including Slovenia which is geographically not Balkan but former Yugoslavia, that gave us the national treasure that is "vairst letty" who lied about speaking 5 languages) are all trash. The culture is uncivil and uncivilized and openly racist that would make even the Proud Boys look enlightened.

just saw a reporter based in Canberra talking to the BBC

he said it's unlikely there will be a decision today due to the new documents produced by Djokovic's lawyers

so that means it's quite likely the draw for the Australian Open will be made before Hawke's decision! Crazy

Hawke is taking so long because he doesn't want to be accused of not thoroughly reviewing the case

by Anonymousreply 120January 12, 2022 6:12 AM

so the draw ceremony starts at 3 PM Thursday local time which is 11 PM Wednesday night EST

NoVax is possibly the worst athlete in tennis. He knew the rules, willingly and eagerly broke them, doubled down on his lies in Aussie Immigration COURT, and tried to cover his tracks on social media. Which personality disorder does he have? He really does not give a shit about anyone but himself and getting that GS record. He has given Australia and its people the middle finger like six times now. What the fuck is WRONG with this dude?

by Anonymousreply 122January 12, 2022 7:58 AM

He’s definitely the worst athlete in tennis. The debate is whether he is the worst athlete in any sport.

Unless it's for travel, you only get a PCR test if you have symptoms and think you may have caught Covid, in some cases if you've been exposed to someone with Covid. So, even if he didn't get the test results back until after he cuddled the little kids, he still would either have had symptoms or known he'd been exposed and should have been self-isolating anyway.

by Anonymousreply 129January 12, 2022 9:11 AM

R126, I'm not falling for that shit again.

I've accepted that Novaxx is playing and I just hope the Aussie's make his tournament absolutely miserable.

I imagine the Government is wargaming it. The Serbians will be violent either way, either in protest to a deportation or when he is inevitably abused in the stadium. So that’s a given. Then, it’s about which voters are motivated and demotivated. For a conservative Liberal/National government they have to assume that most antivaxxers are also their supporters.

Reminds me a little of the Elian Gonzalez situation; either choice with spark politically damaging outrage and the key is which kind of damage is most manageable.

If they deport him, he can't return to Australia for three years. The tennis authorities would have to decide how to respond to that, which they will hate of course - maybe remove the AO's slam status even?

by Anonymousreply 134January 12, 2022 11:09 AM

Funny how DL resident Croatian (?) anti vax cunt suddenly remains silent now that his hero has been exposed as a liar.

by Anonymousreply 135January 12, 2022 11:10 AM

Even if he ends up being deported, I have a strong sense that the three-year ban wouldn't be enforced.

by Anonymousreply 136January 12, 2022 11:11 AM

Timeline of the Idiotkovic case, pt 1

December 10: The deadline for applying for an exemption to participate in the Australian Open ends - for players who have not been vaccinated against the coronavirus. Only fully vaccinated players are allowed to compete.

Dec. 16: The unvaccinated Djokovic attends a Serbian Postal Service event in his home country. In the evening, he learns of his infection. The positive PCR result is in documents that his lawyers later submit to Australian authorities. Under rules in Serbia, CoV-positive people who do not have severe symptoms must be placed in home isolation for 14 days.

Dec. 17: Djokovic, who actually lives in Monaco, is a guest without a mask and without distance at an awards ceremony for young tennis players in Serbia's capital, Belgrade.

by Anonymousreply 137January 12, 2022 11:13 AM

pt 2

December 18: He has an interview with photo shoot for the French sports newspaper "L'Equipe".

December 22: Djokovic has another test. Result according to his own information: negative.

Dec. 30: According to his lawyers, Djokovic receives an exemption for the Australian Open from the medical director of the Australian Tennis Federation.

Turn of the year 2021/2022: Footage on social networks shows Djokovic at a tennis club in Marbella, Spain.

January 5: Djokovic travels to Australia. Since, in the eyes of the authorities, he does not present the necessary documents for an exemption, he is refused entry. He is sent to a deportation hotel.

by Anonymousreply 138January 12, 2022 11:14 AM

If they can prove he lied to the court, then they might slap him with the full three-year ban.

by Anonymousreply 139January 12, 2022 11:15 AM

pt 3

January 6: At a press conference in Belgrade, Djokovic's father compares his son to Jesus Christ: "Jesus was crucified, everything was done to him, and he endured it and still lives among us," Srdjan Djokovic said. "Now they are trying to crucify Novak in the same way and do everything to him."

Jan. 10: A Melbourne court grants Djokovic's appeal and allows him to enter the country. He is allowed to move freely. A few hours later, he is on the practice court.

January 11: It becomes known that Djokovic stated in his entry form that he had not traveled in the 14 days before the flight to Australia.

by Anonymousreply 140January 12, 2022 11:16 AM

pt 4

January 12 Djokovic said he neither intentionally made a false statement about his travel behavior in the 14 days before flying to the Australian Open, nor did he attend an event with children in December knowing of his positive coronavirus test and move there without a mask. However, he admitted to breaking the coronavirus rules after the positive test and not staying in self-isolation - in fact, he even took an interview appointment.

The minister has discretion as to whether he would be banned, and, if so, for how long. It does not have to be for the full three years.

by Anonymousreply 144January 12, 2022 11:34 AM

This was in the tabloid The Tele:

"A government source said any move to relax the government’s Covid immigration rules and allow the world’s number one tennis player to stay in Australia would set a dangerous precedent.

The source said the government was prepared to weather an international backlash the decision would attract because it would be in the national interest and consistent with our “ongoing efforts to control the spread of Covid”.

Another source told the Herald Sun Djokovic’s case was “weakening by the day”."

--- I'm not sure how reliable The Tele is but that argument has always made sense to me from a legal point of view - if they let Djokovic enter Australia and stay, that would give other unvaccinated people a strong argument that they should be allowed the same. Plus all polling says that a majority want him deported. I feel a LITTLE bit more confident that the ministers will come to that conclusion.

by Anonymousreply 145January 12, 2022 11:45 AM

|He has to be put into a category, R144, which have the bans attached to them.

by Anonymousreply 148January 12, 2022 1:10 PM

It's ridiculous that having got covid recently was considered a valid reason to enter Australia in the first place because that gives people an incentive to catch covid.

by Anonymousreply 149January 12, 2022 1:13 PM

Why, r134? Is Novaxx even the biggest draw in tennis? He may be number 1, but he’s still lags behind Federer and Nadal largely due to his lack of charisma and low likeabiility.

by Anonymousreply 150January 12, 2022 1:17 PM

When Rafa visited DC this summer, people I know who don’t even follow tennis were interested in seeing him play and wondering where he’d go in town. I don’t think Novaxx would have anywhere near that effect despite his (arguable) status as the best.

Journalists unaware Novak Djokovic had tested positive for Covid two days prior to interview

From CNN translator Josh Pennington

Two journalists working for French sports newspaper L’Equipe were not told Novak Djokovic was Covid-positive before, during or after a 33-minute interview with the tennis star in Belgrade on December 18, the outlet reported Wednesday.

Journalists Franck Ramella and photographer Etienne Garnier reported that Djokovic seemed “well,” despite it later emerging he had been diagnosed with Covid-19 two days prior.

Separately on Wednesday, Djokovic acknowledged he knew of the positive diagnosis at the time of the interview and apologized.

The L’Equipe article states Ramella has since tested negative to Covid-19, but it does not mention Garnier’s health.

Ramella told CNN he was en route to Melbourne to cover the Australian Open.

Djokovic, who is unvaccinated, is currently fighting to be allowed into Australia to compete in the tournament.

He applied for an exemption from Australian rules mandating that arrivals must be fully-vaccinated against Covid-19, using a positive test result on December 16 as evidence that he should be allowed into the country. Photos posted on social media show him unmasked at events in mid-December,

While Djokovic admitted Wednesday that he did not immediately isolate after testing positive for Covid-19, he denied knowing he had the virus when attending public events.

The French journalists' interview with Djokovic was conducted in Belgrade at the player’s Novak Center, L’Equipe reported.

“As we waited for about 90 minutes, the (masked) staff offered us an excellent assortment of sliced fruit. At last Djokovic arrived, all smiles, masked as well,” a CNN translation of the French language article reads.

It is unclear whether staff at the Novak Center knew of Djokovic’s positive diagnosis.

The article acknowledged that Djokovic kept his mask on for the duration of the indoor interview, but took it off when asked to pose for a professional photo without it.

“For thirty-three minutes, according to the timer on the recorder, Djokovic answered the questions with confidence. We were being safe, facing each other at a distance of nearly one meter, sitting on opposite sides of a long rectangular table. When Etienne asked him to remove his mask for five minutes during the interview, Djokovic refused,” the article reads.

“Then the photo session took place. Obviously, the Serbian champion removed his mask. We did not want him to pose with his face half-covered. Then he followed the instructions of Etienne, who was masked. He held the trophy at arm's length, moving from one position to another, smiling or grinning to show that he had won. He also shouted to make it even more genuine," the story continues.

The article was published just hours before Djokovic apologized for keeping the interview appointment despite being aware of his positive PCR diagnosis from a test done two days earlier.

“I felt obliged to go ahead and conduct the L’Equipe interview as I didn’t want to let the journalist down, but did ensure I socially distanced and wore a mask except when my photograph was being taken,” Djokovic wrote in a statement published on his social media accounts Wednesday.

“While I went home after the interview to isolate for the required period, on reflection, this was an error of judgement and I accept that I should have rescheduled this commitment.”

Someone said way back in the other thread that another attempt to kick Novaxx out would also go through review by the same judge as before. We know from the hearing that judge was sympathetic to Novaxx “what more could he have done?!” and judgmental about the government not giving due process. So if that is true, the government is likely showing restraint and deliberation here, giving Novaxx’s team a full chance to submit its arguments, and will likely issue a very carefully reasoned explanation if they kick him out again.

And/or, they may be waiting until the last possible minute before the AO draw, so that Novaxx doesn’t have time to get himself back out of trouble again and the AO has to proceed without him.

by Anonymousreply 170January 12, 2022 2:40 PM

The health and safety reason is that if Australia accepts Novaxx’s arguments that (a) having Covid in the last six months constitutes a medical exemption to the vaccine requirement, and (b) that the government’s policy doesn’t permit it to enquire into the accuracy of a claimed medical exemption, this country that has worked very hard to contain the virus for two years could be flooded by unvaccinated fools that spread Covid.

I believe that the first round matches commence January 17th so there's a weekend and court cases don't normally get held on weekends (?) The draw thing seems a bit of a red herring because I'm sure that they've re-done draws if someone drops out after it was taken.

by Anonymousreply 197January 12, 2022 3:12 PM

Surely, Novaxx would take your bed in the luxurios appartment at some private clinic.

by Anonymousreply 199January 12, 2022 3:13 PM

R196 Again, no matter how healthy a person is, you cannot guarantee that they won't get covid seriously and end up in hospital, taking resources away from others. The rules are there for a reason - to prevent unvaccinated people from entering Australia and contributing to a contagion in hospitals.

by Anonymousreply 200January 12, 2022 3:13 PM

R199 Your argument is basically 'Novak is rich so he's better than you'. That doesn't wash, I don't consider him to be better than me nor above the rules.

by Anonymousreply 204January 12, 2022 3:17 PM

He had nearly a year to get vaxxed and refused. He's an anti-vaxxer.

Also, he didn't test positive. The whole thing was a lie. You can't convince me otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 205January 12, 2022 3:17 PM

R204 Yes, it does matter. When there is a pandemic, Australia should prioritise their own citizens and residents. Djokovic does not pay tax in Australia.

by Anonymousreply 206January 12, 2022 3:19 PM

Doesn't it seem like the whole tournament is headed for a covid disaster? Players and staff are bound to start dropping like flies. If he had ANY sense (which he doesn't appear to have) he'd apologize and go back to Marbella. If he continues to play he'll be blamed for the entire epidemic. If he leaves now the blame will shift to Tennis Australia and the government.

by Anonymousreply 209January 12, 2022 3:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 210January 12, 2022 3:22 PM

R209 Can't agree with that. The pandemic as well as many other laws aren't specific to tennis. Does being #1 in tennis give someone the right to drive drunk, for example?

by Anonymousreply 211January 12, 2022 3:24 PM

To the troll who has invaded this thread to turn this into a debate over getting vaccinated, that's not the only thing that's pissing us off about Djokovic. It's how he lied, covered his lies with more lies, threw his staff under the bus, feigned innocence, and continues his sociopathic ways with absolutely no remorse or concern about who he's infected in the process. At most he's given lip service to it when painted into a corner.

by Anonymousreply 212January 12, 2022 3:24 PM

R212. Oh please, you don’t know the whole truth

by Anonymousreply 213January 12, 2022 3:26 PM

So tired of this entitled, lying, smug bitch and all his drama. All he had to do was get a fucking vaccination. Hope they just send him home and move on with the tournament, and stop giving him all this attention.

by Anonymousreply 217January 12, 2022 3:28 PM

If he's telling the truth, he was covid positive when meeting those journos who then have to be vaccinated to travel to Australia. He is a real piece of shit if he did that because if he'd infected them, that takes work away from them.

by Anonymousreply 218January 12, 2022 3:29 PM

R216 You wish

by Anonymousreply 219January 12, 2022 3:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 233January 12, 2022 3:48 PM

I think Craig Tilley might well be in some trouble once the immediate Novax situation subsides. He appears to have deliberately flouted the national rules for entry to Australia and conspired with the Djokovic camp to the point of ignoring his own rules (the 10 December deadline) . Then there are the 'two independent committees' we keep hearing about. As I understand it, these were set up and funded by Tennis Australia and aren't meaningfully independent at all, except in the limited sense that they are theoretically independent of each other.

by Anonymousreply 234January 12, 2022 3:50 PM

Yep: from the above article:

"The high number of vaccinated people in intensive care in NSW may appear concerning but it actually shows the jab is working.

Around 93 per cent of adults in NSW have now been fully vaccinated, leaving around 7 per cent of the population not entirely protected.

Despite making up a small proportion of the wider community, these 7 per cent now account for more than half of all ICU admissions.

“People making up a very small proportion of the at-risk population, are making up a large proportion of those in ICU,” Deakin University epidemiologist Professor Catherine Bennett told news.com.au.

If vaccination didn’t protect people from infection or hospitalisation, Prof Bennett said the ratio of vaccinated people in ICU would be the same as those in the general population: 93 per cent.

Instead the number in ICU is a lot lower, just 50 per cent in NSW.

Prof Bennett also noted that the 50 per cent figure was probably an overestimate as not everyone who is in ICU with Covid would have been admitted due to Covid. Some may have had accidents or other health issues requiring treatment but also happen to have Covid."

by Anonymousreply 235January 12, 2022 3:51 PM

I think Craig Tiley is doing a great job. The Open is in the headlines. Great publicity brings the ratings.

by Anonymousreply 236January 12, 2022 3:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 265January 12, 2022 4:24 PM

Mind-blowing for Serbia but the Croatian poster is right: Vučić picked her and: "Some observers believe that she has no political power in line with the constitutional role of chief of the executive, arguing instead that Vučić wields power in his capacity as the president."

They'll likely let the decision drag on to let the hubris die down, then quietly allow him to play. That's my guess. Of course there will be reaction, but it will not be as loud as it might have been. Novaxx will win the title and take over as the most Slams won. 95% of the world will find him to be vile for about 24 hours, then move on.

In a statement published to social media, he also apologized for an apparently false travel declaration, saying it had been submitted on his behalf by a member of his support staff in "human error."

by Anonymousreply 333January 12, 2022 11:23 PM

I don't believe for one second he had COVID recently - it is a scam to slip into the AO on what he thinks are his own terms. The slight puzzle is why they waited till 16 December, when they could have done this a week or two earlier and cut off at least some of the issues being raised. The answer probably lies in what Novax himself wanted and what his diary dictated - through arrogance and carelessness he wasn't prepared to do things properly. He couldn't even manage to do this the week before Christmas. Another interesting point is his coach and entourage, who all got through to Australia no problem, which must mean, unlike their boss, they are all properly vaccinated.

by Anonymousreply 345January 12, 2022 11:53 PM

R339 I know that you meant no offence but you might want to look into the backgrounds of the government’s lawyers Chris Tran and Naomi Wootten before implying that their youth might have been a factor in the original decision. They negotiated with the ND team to get us to where we are now.

Maybe it was his racial background and her sex that influenced your opinion?

by Anonymousreply 346January 12, 2022 11:59 PM

the people on reddit say that he was already in spain 26th,they saw him training... he wasnt then in serbia officialy? When they posted pictures from marbella when he suddenly showed up at club? It was after 1th january

R350, I just don't know. The same paper is reporting that Hawke has been deluged by submissions from Djokovic's lawyers, and, gosh, there's just so much to think about and investigate that the "timeframe" of the decision will be affected.

Covid is a worsening problem in Aus. This doesn’t seem like the time to be lax about visa vax requirements.

I’m reading too much into everything, but I wonder if that announcement is a preemptive step taken so that if Djokovic is kicked out again, people won’t say it hurt AO ticket sales.

by Anonymousreply 353January 13, 2022 1:43 AM

R353, it could also mean fewer pitchforks in the crowd.

by Anonymousreply 354January 13, 2022 1:47 AM

just read the AO is only going to have 50% capacity fans due to covid

so just imagine the reaction if they don't kick Djokovic out but the rest of the public still has to follow safety measures

CNN says the decision is expected SOON!!

by Anonymousreply 356January 13, 2022 1:54 AM

well we're 2 hours away from the draw ceremony lol

I swear they're doing this to be as dramatic as possible

by Anonymousreply 357January 13, 2022 1:57 AM

These spineless people will let him play.

by Anonymousreply 358January 13, 2022 2:00 AM

If they cancel his visa again, he has to either move back into the detention hotel or get on a plane.

by Anonymousreply 359January 13, 2022 2:02 AM

Any lawyers here can explain - I find it confusing that a decision made by a minister can't be appealed - but the reasons for it can be? What does that mean in practice? Does it mean that Djokovic hypothetically can't get off based on procedure like he did already but can stay if the judge rules that the minister's reasons are unlawful??

by Anonymousreply 360January 13, 2022 2:02 AM

R360, my assessment, based on random internet research: there are two kinds of orders he can issue, an “order of deportation” and an “order of removal.” The later is a super-power type thing and can’t be appealed. The former can be appealed. It turns on the basis of his decision, I.e., his reasons. An order of removal requires (again, as I understand it) a finding that Djokovic is some sort of threat to Australia. Virtually any other reason makes the order one that can be appealed.

by Anonymousreply 361January 13, 2022 2:11 AM

Thanks.. so if it's an order of deportation, I'm wondering if the judge could put an injunction in place so that Djokovic can play before the ruling is made. Think that would cause a stink though.

by Anonymousreply 362January 13, 2022 2:16 AM

R352, but that would place the blame on the judge, which the government might see as a good result.

by Anonymousreply 363January 13, 2022 2:19 AM

R362 if it's the same judge as the one who ruled this past weekend then he won't care if he sets Australia on fire

by Anonymousreply 364January 13, 2022 2:19 AM

Sorry, meant R362.

by Anonymousreply 365January 13, 2022 2:20 AM

But he cannot play before rulling is play. Thats idiotic. He shoul be in that deportation hotel.

by Anonymousreply 366January 13, 2022 2:22 AM

[Quote], I'm wondering if the judge could put an injunction in place so that Djokovic can play before the ruling is made. Think that would cause a stink though.

This was one of the possibilities provided in a link above. He could begin play and then get taken right off the court if the order came down against him. I'd actually like this scenario to play out, the ass wipe

tick tock Hawke

by Anonymousreply 377January 13, 2022 3:01 AM

R376 the judge has nothing to do with the decision, which is at the discretion of the Minister for Immigration Alex Hawke.

by Anonymousreply 378January 13, 2022 3:06 AM

Why can’t Hawke find that Novaxx’s medical exemption is invalid therefore his visa is cancelled? Wasn’t that the original issue?

by Anonymousreply 379January 13, 2022 3:08 AM

R378 Paul Sakkal of The Age says that Djokovic's lawyers will likely be able to appeal, so the judge will be able to make rulings.

and of course if he lets Djokovic stay well then fuck him too

by Anonymousreply 383January 13, 2022 3:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 386January 13, 2022 3:49 AM

I'm not sure about Australian workers, R386, but there is a vaccine mandate for people entering the country.

by Anonymousreply 387January 13, 2022 3:51 AM

R343

I actually do not support Novak playing. But he doesn't have Covid and I think as the days wear on, it looks bad to kick him out.

You may be socially awkward and tone-deaf, but Aussie politicians are not, and they need to gauge how it will appear to boot him out now.

I'm also not Serbian. Your inability to construct a sentence and grade-school level insults peg you as a person whose opinion doesn't really count.

by Anonymousreply 388January 13, 2022 3:52 AM

The Serbs are clinging to the crazy judge to save NoVax and it's hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 389January 13, 2022 3:54 AM

by Anonymousreply 390January 13, 2022 3:54 AM

Thanks, R390. I hate anti-vaxxers, but if they let him play this will cause a lot of shit with Aussie anti-vaxxers.

by Anonymousreply 391January 13, 2022 3:56 AM

They know that his visa should be cancelled because he should not be there, so they are hoping and praying that the judge displays more favoritism/corruption in saving NoVax. I'll tell you this, if the judge does that, he could be opening himself up to an investigation. Don't think he wants that.

[quote] But he doesn't have Covid and I think as the days wear on, it looks bad to kick him out.

As the days wear on? He should not have come in the first place. It “looks bad” that he deceived Australia, Serbia and Spain.

It also “looks bad” for all the Australian everyday citizens who do not get special treatment accorded to them, and yet you argue for someone to obtain special privileges because they’ve been in a country where “days wear on”?!

Why allow someone to unlawfully creep into a country?

[quote] You may be socially awkward and tone-deaf, but Aussie politicians are not, and they need to gauge how it will appear to boot him out now.

I’m not the poster you are replying to, but denigrating them by stating they are “socially awkward” and “tone deaf” speaks more of you then the poster you accuse.

by Anonymousreply 435January 13, 2022 4:39 AM

Novax'a lawyers will simply march off to the court to dispute the deportation.

They will drag out the case which will allow him to play in the interim.

Unless the Govt have an ace up their sleeve, it's gonna be hard to get rid of him.

by Anonymousreply 436January 13, 2022 4:40 AM

So between the start of the press conference at 3:45 and the draw at 4:15, we’ll know.

I know, R488, of course the PM has to speak on the pandemic and how it's affecting Australia. I wondered about the timing of the press conference and the delay of the draw is all.

by Anonymousreply 491January 13, 2022 5:28 AM

Emma Radacanu v Sloane Stephens in Round 1. Bwahahaha

by Anonymousreply 492January 13, 2022 5:30 AM

Why would anyone reward such an asshole for lying and endangering other people? And the fact that he isn't even a citizen makes it worse.

by Anonymousreply 493January 13, 2022 5:31 AM

Agreed R489, but there are so many people on this thread who have no idea about how other countries operate. I’m just trying to keep the bullshit to a minimum - have a look at R490, for example. And R476 and R478.

I am no fan of Scott Morrison but he’s the Head of Government dealing with a pandemic, which is why we have a National Cabinet, and an update about which is the point of the press conference.

He’s not a fucking tennis tournament director.

by Anonymousreply 494January 13, 2022 5:32 AM

Why, R490?

by Anonymousreply 495January 13, 2022 5:33 AM

talking about it now!

by Anonymousreply 496January 13, 2022 5:33 AM

Australia is fucking weak! Being made to look like a fool by a fucking uneducated tennis player!

by Anonymousreply 500January 13, 2022 5:37 AM

So if Hawke does decide to pull Djokovic it will wreak havoc on the draw which of course will infuriate Tilley

at this point the AO deserves to have the draw fucked up

by Anonymousreply 501January 13, 2022 5:37 AM

I think they were going to announce something but then reversed course. That explains why the draw was paused and rescheduled for right after that press conference. Someone changed their minds at the last minute.

apparently Hawke put a statement out earlier saying he wouldn't be constrained by the artificial time limit of the draw ceremony lol so this almost seems like he's waiting to spite Tilley

by Anonymousreply 506January 13, 2022 5:44 AM

Morrison has got to be annoyed Hawke is taking so long?

by Anonymousreply 507January 13, 2022 5:45 AM

Below is from The Guardian live blog. Given these comments by Morrison I can't understand why it is taking so long. It would appear to be cut and dried that Djokovic has no right to enter and remain in the country.

the individual has to show they are double vaccinated or must provide acceptable proof that they can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons. That’s the policy which hasn’t changed. That is the policy and we would expect authorities to be implementing the policy of the government when it comes to those matters.

Now do your fucking job cunt! Hurry the fuck up lazy cunt!

by Anonymousreply 510January 13, 2022 5:50 AM

R507 the Prime Minister is the Minister for Immigration’s boss. Hawke is doing exactly what Morrison wants him to do.

by Anonymousreply 511January 13, 2022 5:51 AM

R510 are you drunk? Or just unhinged?

by Anonymousreply 512January 13, 2022 5:52 AM

If Djokovic, No. 1 seed, withdraws (or is withdrawn) after the draw, he would be replaced by No. 5 seed (Rublev in this case)

But if Djokovic were to withdraw after 1st day's order of play is released, he would be replaced by a lucky loser

by Anonymousreply 513January 13, 2022 5:54 AM

Australia is such a banana Republic being held hostage like this by a tennis player.

by Anonymousreply 520January 13, 2022 7:21 AM

fucking ridiculous and there's really no defense of Hawke at this point especially if his decision is to ultimately let Djokovic stay

whenever he finally gets around to deciding he needs to explain why the hell it took so long

by Anonymousreply 521January 13, 2022 7:36 AM

IF he rules against Djoker, the only reason I can think of is to make sure he has a watertight case and to prevent that judge from throwing a spanner into the works.

If not, he's given into pressure from Serbia or is prejudiced towards the rich and famous especially ones with lawyers and people to advocate for them.

by Anonymousreply 522January 13, 2022 7:40 AM

R522 at this point it would only be acceptable if he decides to kick Djokovic out. If he decides to let him stay then there's no excuse to have taken so much time for that. Every day new damaging info has come out against Djokovic and it should only hurt his chances. Hawke is going to look very weak the more time he takes if he ends up saying he can stay

by Anonymousreply 523January 13, 2022 7:46 AM

We are dealing with three different amoral, corrupt and incompetent entities: the Djokovic team, Tennis Australia, and the Australian government. It’s a standoff of the stupid. At the point, cancel the whole thing and send everyone home. And never buy anything from Djokovic’s sponsors ever again.

by Anonymousreply 524January 13, 2022 7:54 AM

I didn't read the thread so don't know if anyone else mentioned it but when they were showing video of this asshole at the events after he knew he had tested postive for Covid all I could think was that he and Aaron Rodgers look a lot alike. Djokovic has a way to go to reach the level of unwashed homeless person that Rodgers has achieved but I'm sure he can do it if he tries.

by Anonymousreply 525January 13, 2022 8:01 AM

I think the main reason for the delay is that the number 1 priority for the Aus Govt is that they avoid another embarrassment in court. They could well time the announcement to make it as difficult as possible for ND's lawyers to be able respond and to still have ND play in Rd 1.

by Anonymousreply 526January 13, 2022 8:48 AM

"Mr Hawke is likely to announce his decision on Friday, after Tennis Australia delayed for an hour a press conference on Thursday to announce the tournament’s draw in the expectation he would cancel the Serbian tennis star’s visa."

by Anonymousreply 540January 13, 2022 12:15 PM

What the fuck is the immigration minister waiting for???

by Anonymousreply 541January 13, 2022 1:06 PM

Not an Aussie but IIRC there is an election coming up. I would thinks with COVID/Omicron ravaging the country and so many restrictions on the citizens, the current gov't would absolutely kick his ass out to show no one, especially a foreigner, has special treatment when so many couldn't enter/leave the country to see sick or dying family members. While it seems a no-brainer to me, the s l o w decision announcement gives me pause.

by Anonymousreply 542January 13, 2022 1:20 PM

At this point I can’t help but think Novaxx is going to be allowed to stay. The government already fucked up the chance to boot him out of the country.

The only justice now can come in the form of karma. If he gets COVID a second time while there he may not be so lucky.

by Anonymousreply 543January 13, 2022 1:21 PM

[quote]At this point I can’t help but think Novaxx is going to be allowed to stay.

Then what are they waiting for?

by Anonymousreply 544January 13, 2022 1:23 PM

I’m a deluded optimist, so I’m wondering if Hawke has made some inquiries to Serbia or Spain to formally confirm some of Djokovic’s misstatements.

by Anonymousreply 545January 13, 2022 1:33 PM

It’s also kind of interesting - if Hawke didn’t consider the AO draw as imposing a deadline on his decision, then he really doesn’t have another deadline due to events until the tournament actually begins. So he can pick whatever moment will make it hardest for Novax to overturn the cancellation.

by Anonymousreply 546January 13, 2022 1:37 PM

Of course the Australian government is making inquiries with the Serbian and Spanish governments and maybe even the Dubai government into whether Novak's certificate of recovery is real or fake, r545.

R546, why should Hawke consider an external factor as imposing a deadline on his decision, r546? What would be really shit, however, is if Novak plays a round or two, knocks out a couple of players and then he's deported. Those other players would then have lost their chance to proceed to the next round.

by Anonymousreply 547January 13, 2022 1:45 PM

If I’m in Hawke’s spot and I’m looking purely at how to prevent Novax from playing, I’d want to knock him out immediately before the first round, and extend the appeals process through the second round, at which point it would be impossible to incorporate him back into the tournament. I’m not sure that’s even possible, though.

by Anonymousreply 548January 13, 2022 1:52 PM

Novax seems to think he can submit an appeal over the weekend. I didn't know judges sat over the weekend or do they in emergencies?

by Anonymousreply 549January 13, 2022 1:59 PM

They're going to put it off until Djokovic actually plays and then it will be too late.

by Anonymousreply 550January 13, 2022 2:00 PM

R360 It is a question that can be answered only by Australian law experts. As far as I know in every democratic regime an administrative decision can be questioned before the court of law. Even here in not so democratic Balkans the right to appeal before the court of law is constitutional right. Only US can keep people locked in Guantanamo without the access to the courts. And China and similar states.

by Anonymousreply 551January 13, 2022 2:02 PM

I believe the delaying tactics are working for everybody.

Is the majority of posters here male? Because you Dlers usually call women Karen. And they seem to be more sensitive to the issues of someone not obeying rules, be it in the public transportation, at the office, at school where their kids go. I can even understand the Austrian frau and few other Western European fraus that are terrified by Balkanic workers in their countries and would like to have some Trump of their own to build the wall and save them.

But is it possible that you men can be such big fraus, sitting here all day long like hens in a henhouse and bitching about some tennis player as if he lied about the existence of nuclear weapon in Iraq.

by Anonymousreply 554January 13, 2022 2:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 556January 13, 2022 2:47 PM

R555 I see that women from Western Europe are afraid to lose some rights and freedom because of immigrants and they project their xenophobia on Novaxx, but I don't understand what is the big problem of gay men, particularly American with Novax. I mean you see every day people in high places lying and stealing and destroying your lives, so what is the big deal with one tennis player and his little lies?

by Anonymousreply 557January 13, 2022 2:53 PM

R556 how can you say that with a straight face when your entire post is a litany of insults? If you were asking a genuine question, you'd keep the trashy insults out of it.

by Anonymousreply 558January 13, 2022 2:53 PM

Seems likely he will stay IMO. To get booted out also means a 3 year ban, but I suppose somebody in high places could waive the ban at a later date. Hawke must be considering this as well.

Plus the delay might be because the gov is waiting on docs from Serbia/Spain to attest to reasons why ND cannot be vaccinated. You know, bullshit docs like those Trump's doctor provided

by Anonymousreply 559January 13, 2022 2:54 PM

R557 Ah yes.. well, here's the thing. Rich and developed countries have lower corruption indexes than poor third world countries. And one reason for that is that developed countries or the people in them have a higher standard and hold people to account.

by Anonymousreply 560January 13, 2022 2:55 PM

[quote]It’s also kind of interesting - if Hawke didn’t consider the AO draw as imposing a deadline on his decision, then he really doesn’t have another deadline due to events until the tournament actually begins. by Anonymousreply 562January 13, 2022 2:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 563January 13, 2022 2:57 PM

R560 Because the rich and developed countries permit corruption only on high level and they make their fortune by exploiting the 3rd world countries. If you held high standards to your politicians all this shit with Middle East wouldn't have happened.

by Anonymousreply 564January 13, 2022 2:59 PM

"Everybody's crooked, so why bother holding anyone to account?" is a very Eastern European point of view, often employed to rationalize one's own ethical lapses.

by Anonymousreply 565January 13, 2022 2:59 PM

R565 You are a shallow and manipulative person.

If you had such high standards in West how come you allowed your politicians shred Middle East to pieces.

by Anonymousreply 569January 13, 2022 3:04 PM

And I am the least misogynist person on DL.

by Anonymousreply 570January 13, 2022 3:05 PM

I think I explained that I know western European women are afraid of immigrants and thus projecting it on Balkans, but why are you American men projecting so much anger on this guy?

by Anonymousreply 571January 13, 2022 3:10 PM

They even try it in court, R565. Several defense briefs the Russian filed in US courts regarding their involvement in the 2016 election boiled down to "the US illegally invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, so we didn't do anything wrong here."

To be fair, Russian courts post-Putin are an extension of Nazi courts: whatever the big guy wants is legal, whatever he hates is illegal.

by Anonymousreply 572January 13, 2022 3:14 PM

R572 The democracy level in Russia is a well known fact, as is in post Yugoslav countries. But bitching about it will not help you solve your own problems and save the little democracy and rights you have left.

Just as Western European women, and I am sorry if I sounded misogynist before, can hate Balkanics all they want, but they are not the ones who destroyed their welfare state.

by Anonymousreply 573January 13, 2022 3:23 PM

R565 100% agree. This stupid person from the Balkans doesn't understand that shrugging your shoulders at corruption is the reason why they are poorer and less developed than the US and Western Europe.

by Anonymousreply 574January 13, 2022 3:25 PM

If you hadn't your head in your ass you would understand that your country is very corrupted R574, but only you sheep are not allowed to join the feast. And if your country is richer than mine it is only because you were historically bigger crooks.

Being imperialist and post imperialist force, exploiting others keeping slaves etc of course helps a bit.

But it so great to be a self satisfied jerk.

by Anonymousreply 575January 13, 2022 3:47 PM

R572 I don't deny that there's a ton of corruption but it's relative. If you look up corruption indexes, you can clearly see a pattern about which countries are worse. Then you compare that against how developed and wealthy they are and it's pretty clear that there's a link.

That's why I will never apologise for wanting to hold people like Djokovic to account. It pressurises politicians (yes, most of them are corrupt and greedy fucks - perhaps that's simply human nature - but we are somewhat better at holding them to account which is better for everyone and the country in the end.)

by Anonymousreply 576January 13, 2022 3:52 PM

Sorry, that was for R575

by Anonymousreply 577January 13, 2022 3:52 PM

Alex Hawke is a Hillsong attending grub.

In 2018, Hawke said he strongly supported new rules to allow religious schools to expel students who are gay, bisexual or transgender, warning that people of faith were under attack in Australia: "I don't think it's controversial in Australia that people expect religious schools to teach the practice of their faith and their religion. Hawke accused the first Muslim woman elected to parliament, Egyptian born Anne Aly, of thinking that "her diversity as something better than other people's diversity". When challenged on these statements, Hawke responded by saying that Labor were "feigning outrage and falsely claiming racism" in order to shut down debate, and that they were "fixated on identity politics and appears constantly triggered by anything and everything. At least his wife had the good sense to leave him.

by Anonymousreply 580January 13, 2022 4:02 PM

I have an idea, R575. Until your English proficiency is sufficient, refrain from posting here. In return I promise not to post on any boards in which the primary language of discourse derives from Eastern Europe or Russia.

by Anonymousreply 581January 13, 2022 4:04 PM

Of course that post Yugoslav countries are corrupt as fuck. But the problem here was not even caused by Serbia, but by Australia, with conflicted interest of AO and state Victoria who allowed the exemption and the PM, who has to satisfy his voters before elections.

And for the people on the high level is it different elsewhere? Is Prince Andrew protected by the Uk authorities, even though he is a suspect in a much more serious case. And all the American big shot Epstein guys, is press after their blood too?

The other interesting things that I have noticed on this thread is that he is hated more for being Serb than for his alleged crimes.

by Anonymousreply 582January 13, 2022 4:06 PM

R581 I don't give a damn about racist scum like you. If you were more intelligent you would understand my poor English. You are just to angry that you are not allowed to hate Blacks anymore. Go to therapist to discuss about your father, who hurt you the most.

by Anonymousreply 585January 13, 2022 4:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 586January 13, 2022 4:16 PM

R585 You don't understand a shit, because you are stupid. If you weren't such low life trash the parents would have taught you that only miserable idiots mock foreigner's language skills. You might be a native speaker but your English is also poor, it shows your low level of education.

by Anonymousreply 587January 13, 2022 4:17 PM

R57, I'm not mocking your language skills. I'm simply stating that it's not a great idea to post on a board when one lacks proficiency in the primary language being used on that board. Accordingly I wouldn't post on a board with Serbian or Russian as the primary language being used. If I did, I would fully expect others to mock my poor language skills. I would take your last sentence seriously if there were any there there.

by Anonymousreply 588January 13, 2022 4:26 PM

The Croat at r554 is typical of the Balakan disdain for rules and tolerance for corruption. To him, Novax does deserve special treatment because he's better than us mere plebs. I won't be surprised if it came out that the Serbs faked his resuls.

“It was as if I were watching a film - a long interrogation with instructions such as ‘undress, get dressed’. Yuck, I don’t even want to think about it, let alone live it again,” Voracova told Russian newspaper Denik, adding that she burst into tears during questioning which lasted up to six hours.

Voracova has vowed to demand compensation from Tennis Australia, including the 60,000 Czech crowns (£2,000) she spent on her flight for herself and her coach to Australia.

“And then there is all that time, hotels, training for the grand slam, the potential prize money,” added Voracova. “I hope Tennis Australia will face up to it and that we won’t have to take legal steps. I’m not thinking about tennis. I’m still waking up from the shock, I haven’t processed it yet. I’m exhausted.”

--- Australia is probably going to have to pay up to her if they let Djoker off.

Looks like typical political buck-passing. Tennis authorities waiting for government to kick him out, politicians waiting for tennis authorities to do it. Nobody wants to take the heat for it, everyone stalling, waiting for the other guy to do it. Nice to know politicians are the same everywhere.
