I Want to be Underwhelmed—-2022 Already?

Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy year.

by Anonymousreply 437January 28, 2022 10:05 PM

A continuation.

Bread pudding, better with Rum?

Maybe I'll do some research.

by Anonymousreply 2December 15, 2021 6:16 AM

When I send Christmas gifts, I have to stop and think which of my friends and family are sober now...it's kind of a long list

by Anonymousreply 3December 15, 2021 6:18 AM

I was afraid you were going to say you have to stop and think which of your friends and family members are still alive.

by Anonymousreply 4December 15, 2021 6:59 AM

I find it easier to just stop sending xmas gifts.

by Anonymousreply 5December 15, 2021 8:59 AM

I'm a little concerned that there are two threads going on this. What if the other one won't fill up and then we'll have two going? I hate when things go bad and you have to throw them out. I almost started a thread about this but right now I think we all have enough on our minds.

by Anonymousreply 6December 15, 2021 3:46 PM

What’s more whelming: Two threads or no thread?

by Anonymousreply 7December 15, 2021 4:44 PM

No thread, R7. And the predecessor to this thread is almost up to 600, so soon all will be right again in the world of the underwhelmed.

by Anonymousreply 8December 15, 2021 6:31 PM

R6 just whelmed the fuck out of me.

by Anonymousreply 9December 15, 2021 6:53 PM

Was supposed to go out for lunch, but Mummy was feeling poorly, so had an egg salad sandwich at her place instead.

by Anonymousreply 10December 15, 2021 7:09 PM

What a mess, we have two threads going now. Underwhelmed? I think not

by Anonymousreply 11December 15, 2021 7:21 PM

I've spent the last two days with a headache while California Girls by Katy Perry was playing on loop in my head. Shoot me.

by Anonymousreply 12December 15, 2021 10:51 PM

[quote]Shoot me.

Patently the wrong thread for this request.

But it is the Datalounge, I am sure it can be arranged.

by Anonymousreply 13December 15, 2021 11:14 PM

Posterburner is an amazing site! I sent them an order of four images recently, where three of them came out very good to excellent, and the fourth one was an honest fail. They would not give up until we were able to resolve the situation. There are many things to complain about in the USA, but I have to say they are an example of customer service at its best.

by Anonymousreply 14December 16, 2021 1:05 AM

Shills sometimes whelm me...

by Anonymousreply 15December 16, 2021 1:55 AM

R9 I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to start anything. I didn't start anything. I don't think.

by Anonymousreply 16December 16, 2021 2:00 AM

R12 It could have been I've Never Been to Me. Practice gratitude.

by Anonymousreply 17December 16, 2021 2:02 AM

R15

I wasn't trying to shill anything, just trying to be helpful - sorry!

by Anonymousreply 18December 16, 2021 2:05 AM

Don’t apologize. It whelms!

by Anonymousreply 19December 16, 2021 3:07 AM

Kittenzilla is terrified by my cleaning lady but he is too big to hide under the bed. So he pretends to be a statue in the spare room until she comes upstairs. Then he sneaks down to hide in the litter cupboard. He is whelmed. I am not.

by Anonymousreply 20December 16, 2021 6:48 AM

I'm going to need to see a photo of Kittenzilla.

by Anonymousreply 21December 16, 2021 10:09 AM

It's boring of me but I really don't want to do anything for New Year's Eve. Just want to stay in and watch movies with my cat - maybe get caught up on some of the Oscar buzz films out already.

by Anonymousreply 22December 16, 2021 10:10 AM

He looks like this. 14 months old. 20 lbs.

next year I'm buying my x-mast tree at the local farm. not like this year sight unseen from the internet

by Anonymousreply 25December 16, 2021 5:54 PM

R12 Hey lady, you lady

by Anonymousreply 26December 16, 2021 6:15 PM

R23 oh, a Siberian - those are soooo chill once they grow up. They have such funny personalities, a very social sweet breed.

by Anonymousreply 27December 16, 2021 9:44 PM

R12 UPDATE: I have to wear glasses now.

by Anonymousreply 28December 16, 2021 9:52 PM

R27 he is a Ragdoll but same size, shape and demeanor as Siberian. He is fun, adorable and a pain in the ass sometimes. Lol

by Anonymousreply 29December 16, 2021 10:56 PM

Yes, sorry, I meant Ragdoll, not Siberian. I was momentarily whelmed by the cuteness. Ragdolls are very smart!

by Anonymousreply 30December 16, 2021 10:58 PM

Trump can get 20 years for the insurrection and Liz Cheney knows it. It may turn out to be a great year.

by Anonymousreply 31December 16, 2021 11:03 PM

I just came here to say that I agree with the poster on the previous thread who likes thumbprint cookie with buttercream. I especially like them with buttercream and jam, which seems to whelm Americans and Brits but for different-ingredient-based reasons.

by Anonymousreply 32December 17, 2021 12:23 AM

That would be the best kind of whelming.

by Anonymousreply 33December 17, 2021 12:23 AM

I bought some Christmas soap last year, and I found it again

(Actually, I never put it away but so what?)

by Anonymousreply 34December 17, 2021 12:43 AM

[quote]That would be the best kind of whelming.

I read this as, "That would be the best kind of whoring."

I can't get the "Never Been to Me" song out of my head.

by Anonymousreply 35December 17, 2021 12:45 AM

I'm watching an old movie with Earl Holliman, and I'm surprised to discover he's still alive at 93.

by Anonymousreply 36December 17, 2021 12:51 AM

[quote]I'm watching an old movie with Earl Holliman, and I'm surprised to discover he's still alive at 93.

I'm pretty sure he's a homosexualist, although he may not be getting around that much at 93.

by Anonymousreply 37December 17, 2021 2:07 AM

My nearly-twenty-year-old cat is showing signs of feline dementia. I'm not whelmed yet, but ...

by Anonymousreply 38December 17, 2021 2:47 AM

[quote]I just came here to say that I agree with the poster on the previous thread who likes thumbprint cookie with buttercream.

I'll second that and add those powdered German dunking cookies. The cookie requires coffee and booze.

by Anonymousreply 39December 17, 2021 2:54 AM

Oh dear, I see I did not pluralize "cookie" at R32. Rest assured, there is no "cookie" here. It is always "cookies."

Also, R39, I don't know what those German cookies are but they sound delicious.

by Anonymousreply 40December 17, 2021 5:43 AM

I got my booster yesterday afternoon and my arm is still sore.

by Anonymousreply 41December 17, 2021 1:27 PM

I thought about cleaning the house in preparation for Christmas. I decided it needed further consideration and read a book instead.

by Anonymousreply 42December 17, 2021 1:53 PM

I had my second shingles shot on Wednesday. Contrary to the warning by the pharmacist, I didn't feel particularly ill from it. A bit sore at first, but even that's fading fast.

by Anonymousreply 43December 17, 2021 2:39 PM

Periwinkle is the Pantone color of the year- not so wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 44December 17, 2021 2:45 PM

But it is comfortably underwhelming r44.

by Anonymousreply 45December 17, 2021 2:52 PM

And I thought 2020 was it and we'd come out from the pandemic in 2021. Now I'm unsure about plans I'm making for mid-2023. I don't know what to do. Resolve and purpose are fading.

by Anonymousreply 46December 17, 2021 2:58 PM

My body decided I only needed four hours of sleep.

Work will be bullshit.

I changed my work outfit just to accommodate lighter weight dress boots.

by Anonymousreply 47December 17, 2021 3:07 PM

I got my Covid vaccine booster shot yesterday. I had a choice of Moderna or Pfizer. Since my Shots ## 1 and 2 were Moderna, I chose Moderna. Also, the nurse said that the Moderna was a half-dose whereas the Pfizer was a full dose.

I was prepared to feel horrible b/c I felt like horrible after Shot # 2 (day after the shot was worse than the day of the shot). I definitely don't feel 100%, but it's not as bad as Shot # 2.

I have lots of comfort foods on hand and my sheets / blanket are all clean. Also have a huge bottle of Excedrin Migraine, which I took right after the shot and first things this morning as well.

by Anonymousreply 48December 17, 2021 7:16 PM

I want to be underwhelmed, but...

I stepped on a scale this morning and through the holiday period, I've gained 3 pounds. 3!!!

I'm whelmed. So whelmed. Overwhelmed!.

by Anonymousreply 49December 17, 2021 7:45 PM

Did you remove your earrings, R49? Those are usually two pounds of dangling weight.

by Anonymousreply 50December 17, 2021 8:34 PM

I’m convinced my cat judges me.

by Anonymousreply 51December 17, 2021 9:03 PM

I suggest you just judge him right back.

by Anonymousreply 52December 17, 2021 9:29 PM

I do. She’s fat.

by Anonymousreply 53December 17, 2021 9:47 PM

A gift from the Project Runway thread.

by Anonymousreply 54December 17, 2021 9:48 PM

r22 I concur. New Years Eve is the worst night to go out if you like being underwhelmed. I love to turn on TCM and see what they have going on. If it's shit, I go to my PVR for a great old movie that you can't get from the Netflixes. Nothing less whelming than a great old film from 1930s!

by Anonymousreply 55December 17, 2021 10:55 PM

R36 I always found Earl Holliman to be very handsome. Maybe not just south of 100, but he did have a good square jaw. And Pepper liked him.

by Anonymousreply 56December 17, 2021 10:56 PM

R55 that sounds great. I wish it didn’t.

by Anonymousreply 57December 17, 2021 11:09 PM

I rather like these underwhelm threads...anyone remember their origin? Or did they organically happen?

by Anonymousreply 58December 17, 2021 11:24 PM

OP - Bette Davis has no place in an underwhelm thread but given our global shit show it's so nice to have a safe space!

by Anonymousreply 59December 17, 2021 11:28 PM

R55 I'm going to a parade and fireworks and in bed by 9pm. It's the most I've done in two years.

by Anonymousreply 60December 17, 2021 11:31 PM

R58 I don't know but I love this thread. I couldn't post on it for a while because the last thread was paywalled and I am too cheap to pay twenty bucks a year.

by Anonymousreply 61December 17, 2021 11:31 PM

Then you're too cheap for an Underwhelmed thread r61.

by Anonymousreply 62December 17, 2021 11:34 PM

I had Cheerios for dinner, with raspberries. I hate milk so I use a mixture of plain iced tea and apple cider.

by Anonymousreply 63December 17, 2021 11:36 PM

Perhaps ironic for an underwhelming thread, but of all the choices I had for a condiment on my cod sandwich at lunch I chose horseradish.

by Anonymousreply 64December 17, 2021 11:38 PM

Christmas is upon us Christmas 🎄

by Anonymousreply 65December 17, 2021 11:44 PM

R64 I adore horseradish. I would have done the same.

by Anonymousreply 66December 17, 2021 11:57 PM

If we don’t slow down this thread will never make it to 12/31.

by Anonymousreply 67December 17, 2021 11:58 PM

R61 it's a nominal fee. If you enjoy it, why not join FT?

by Anonymousreply 68December 17, 2021 11:58 PM

A decent cod sandwich is hard to come by. A lot of places just serve any kind of white flake = Hake.

by Anonymousreply 69December 18, 2021 12:00 AM

I hate my blinds.

by Anonymousreply 70December 18, 2021 12:00 AM

The batteries in my remote control died. I don’t have any new batteries. I’ll just watch one channel all night.

by Anonymousreply 71December 18, 2021 12:06 AM

Sucks to be you, r71

by Anonymousreply 72December 18, 2021 12:06 AM

R68 I've been thinking about it. I think I will. Not being able to post when I want to is whelming.

by Anonymousreply 73December 18, 2021 12:09 AM

My dog is a heavy breather.

by Anonymousreply 74December 18, 2021 12:14 AM

I sold my house and movers took my stuff to a storage unit 2 days ago. I now just have 4 suitcases, my truck, and a coffee pot. I’ve spent 2 months throwing stuff out and recycled my lawnmower yesterday. Life is easier with just 4 suitcases.

by Anonymousreply 75December 18, 2021 12:36 AM

R75, 4 suitcases plus a storage unit full of stuff.

by Anonymousreply 76December 18, 2021 12:56 AM

I firmly believe prime rib is an excuse to consume horseradish, R66. Today's cod condiment was especially strong; I was delighted!

This place specializes in New England Cuisine, which I called Yankee Chow, R69.

Sounds like my move across country back in January, R75. Although, I did send three boxes of books via media mail rate as well.

by Anonymousreply 77December 18, 2021 1:05 AM

R75 Congrats! You feel light as air!

[quote]I got my booster yesterday afternoon and my arm is still sore.

I got a somewhat whelming rash near and around the injection site from my booster. Felt and looked like a huge painful mosquito bite which I suppose is close to what it was - a mild histaminic reaction. Still better than dying from COVID. I've heard it's a common and totally harmless reaction to the Moderna shot, whether it be the original round of vaccines or the booster - people are calling it "COVID arm". It cleared up in under 48 hours.

by Anonymousreply 79December 18, 2021 2:20 AM

I binged watched Hacks. I was surprised there was actually a designer named Jean Royere, who’s objets d’art are collected only by the super rich. That includes Kanye West and Jennifer Aniston and Ellen DeGeneres. Close to the whelm spectrum, but ultimately underwhelming.

by Anonymousreply 80December 18, 2021 2:35 AM

[Quote] I’ll just watch one channel all night.

I knew a family that did that. No one changed the channel. Certainly a different way of watching TV. It was quite interesting to see the day's program lineup on a channel actually.

by Anonymousreply 81December 18, 2021 3:27 AM

I'm about to sit down with a big tub of popcorn and some low-fat eggnog (one has to try where one can) to watch "Single All the Way." I already know it's going to be underwhelming.

by Anonymousreply 82December 18, 2021 3:33 AM

This gave me a chuckle, but I wasn't whelmed. I thought DataLounge would appreciate it:

It sounds like you went in with low expectations, which is often a good idea. I thought it was sort of cute, but I also went in with low expectations.

by Anonymousreply 84December 18, 2021 5:58 AM

Dangerously close to whelmed by R63. Cider on Cheerios? Is that - is that mild fluttering feeling in my chest heart palpitations? Oh dear oh dear. Please, R63, have some consideration for the easily whelmed and do not speak of such things again.

by Anonymousreply 85December 18, 2021 7:57 AM

Close to whelmation by the fact that my piece of shit province is acting cazh about boosters (because they are in no way ready to start giving them and think we don't know that) and considering crossing the border to get one from the filthy capitalists south of the border.

But what if the trip itself gives me Covid? Super American Covid with Extra Fries?

Oh no.

by Anonymousreply 86December 18, 2021 7:59 AM

Oh dear, oh god. Oh my goodness. Oh.

by Anonymousreply 87December 18, 2021 8:00 AM

R87 Are you okay?

by Anonymousreply 88December 18, 2021 9:35 AM

I'll have what r87 is having.

by Anonymousreply 89December 18, 2021 9:42 AM

[quote]Super American Covid with Extra Fries?

R86 that made me chuckle, and now I'm feeling a bit whelmed.

by Anonymousreply 90December 18, 2021 12:53 PM

Yesterday, I re-watched "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World."

Ethel nails it.

by Anonymousreply 91December 18, 2021 2:53 PM

I threw my bathroom scale in the trash. It’s been depressing me.

by Anonymousreply 92December 18, 2021 4:30 PM

Fuck it r92. Fuck it right in the ass.

by Anonymousreply 93December 18, 2021 5:03 PM

Better go pick that scale out of the trash, unless you want to be overwhelmed (with your weight) in January.

by Anonymousreply 94December 18, 2021 5:47 PM

[quote]I threw my bathroom scale in the trash. It’s been depressing me.

I've also done that, R92. But I felt justified. Obviously the damned thing was broken. It was the only way to explain its giving me increasingly higher readings morning after morning!

by Anonymousreply 95December 18, 2021 6:36 PM

R95, that's not the scale malfunctioning.

Along with global warming comes an increase in the Earth's gravitational pull. It's a fact. We can all see it in our bathroom scales.

Overwhelming, I know. But you started it, R95.

by Anonymousreply 96December 18, 2021 6:38 PM

[quote]that's not the scale malfunctioning.

I'm rather whelmed that you thought it necessary to point that out.

by Anonymousreply 97December 18, 2021 7:53 PM

I've stopped caring how much I weigh. Haven't weighed myself in months. I put on weight in quarantine and went up a pants size but it's too whelming to diet strictly as I once did. Now I'm just focusing on exercising regularly, staying hydrated, getting plenty of sleep and eating healthfully/cutting down on booze and sweets. If I go up another pants size I might revisit this strategy, but it's held steady for a couple of months now.

by Anonymousreply 98December 19, 2021 1:28 AM

[quote]I knew a family that did that. No one changed the channel. Certainly a different way of watching TV. It was quite interesting to see the day's program lineup on a channel actually.

My dog does that and he's never complained about it.

by Anonymousreply 99December 19, 2021 2:06 AM

We didn't have a remote control until the 1980s. Never knew they existed. I remember being in my 20s and watching movies from the 1960s and thinking holy crap they had them that long ago.

by Anonymousreply 100December 19, 2021 8:08 AM

[quote]My dog does that and he's never complained about it.

Do you even read my social media? I complain.

Oh, I complain!

by Anonymousreply 101December 19, 2021 8:40 AM

My grandparents had a remote that made a weird vibration when you pushed the button. It was a B&W TV.

by Anonymousreply 102December 19, 2021 5:16 PM

In the 60s my grandmother had a remote that was wired to the teevee.

by Anonymousreply 103December 19, 2021 6:16 PM

When I was a kid, I was my father's remote control as he rested on his Barcolounger.

"Go change the channel to 4."

by Anonymousreply 104December 19, 2021 7:20 PM

^^ Sorry, Barcalounger. ^^

by Anonymousreply 105December 19, 2021 7:22 PM

When I was a kid, I was the remote control.

by Anonymousreply 106December 19, 2021 10:35 PM

I always sat a few feet from the TV, so I could be the one to change it

by Anonymousreply 107December 19, 2021 10:38 PM

I remember a friend's parents having a remote that was connected to the TV with a wire. This would have been the early to mid 80s and I thought her dad must be the coolest and richest person ever to have such a thing.

by Anonymousreply 108December 20, 2021 7:20 AM

R108 - early cable boxes were connected to the TV with a wire. We had one when we first got cable and could finally get 18 channels including HBO!

by Anonymousreply 109December 20, 2021 1:37 PM

R106 and this.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 110December 20, 2021 2:59 PM

Indeed, R110! The channel knob on our c. 1960 set was unusable well within a decade.

by Anonymousreply 111December 20, 2021 3:01 PM

I’m sitting in a drs waiting room and it’s utterly silent, not even any soft Christmas music. The only sound is a young man who keeps sniffing loudly. Every 10 seconds or so…..SNIFF. I’m having one of those “what if” fantasies: what if I said, “Could you PLEASE go somewhere and blow your fucking nose and be done with it?” Fortunately he’s far enough away.

by Anonymousreply 112December 20, 2021 3:48 PM

The sniffing has accelerated to near-constant. Must be some sort of condition. I’m getting used to it.

by Anonymousreply 113December 20, 2021 4:08 PM

I'm going to Subway today and get my usual ham and swiss sandwich with lettuce, onions, green peppers, banana peppers, mustard and oil and vinegar. Jalapeno chips and three raspberry cookies. Can't wait!

by Anonymousreply 114December 20, 2021 5:07 PM

The banana peppers put it over the top.

by Anonymousreply 115December 20, 2021 5:09 PM

I’m having fiesta chicken for lunch

by Anonymousreply 116December 20, 2021 5:24 PM

I am having toasted ham and jarlsberg. With dijon.

by Anonymousreply 117December 20, 2021 6:40 PM

I posted a bunch of pics to the "Naked Men 2021" thread last night and now the thread has disappeared. I'm bummed.

by Anonymousreply 118December 20, 2021 6:49 PM

I am not really a fan of ramen, but accidentally ended up at a Japanese restaurant today where I ordered a bowl of it that was truly delicious (Hakata style).

by Anonymousreply 119December 20, 2021 6:57 PM

On my way home from Subway, I had to suddenly brake at a light and my three raspberry cookies fell out of the package onto the floor of the car. I debated eating them anyway, but then threw them away. Now I'm sad.

by Anonymousreply 120December 20, 2021 7:16 PM

But svelte!

by Anonymousreply 121December 20, 2021 7:20 PM

I'm of the possibly unpopular opinion that banana peppers are almost always unnecessary.

by Anonymousreply 122December 20, 2021 9:53 PM

R120 those Subway cookies are pretty awesome, actually. You should have eaten them anyway. Nobody saw them fall on your car floor....you would have been fine.

Sadly, the Subway in my post, northern NJ town closed down several months ago. I'm sad and a bit whelmed. They were a great last minute "go to" option when you didn't feel like paying a fortune for sandwich, or when you were walking home from the NJ Transit station, which was right across the street from the Subway.

by Anonymousreply 123December 20, 2021 10:18 PM

^^not post, but posh!

by Anonymousreply 124December 20, 2021 10:41 PM

Those Subway cookies, IMO, are soft (no crispiness) and sweet with no other flavor component.

by Anonymousreply 125December 20, 2021 10:58 PM

I just turned on the hallway lights, for the first time in several weeks at least, and they started blinking on and off. I tuned them back off.

by Anonymousreply 126December 20, 2021 11:54 PM

I'm thinking about cleaning, rather than cleaning.

by Anonymousreply 127December 21, 2021 1:46 AM

My eggs tasted better because I used my new saucier. I barely helped the mass climb up the wall and it flipped over perfectly.

I'm not a cross dresser, but I would like to wear a hostess coat when I cook.

by Anonymousreply 128December 21, 2021 2:00 AM

I've been thinking about getting a saucier for 2+ years, R128. Also, I don't know what a hostess coat is.

by Anonymousreply 129December 21, 2021 2:05 AM

Did you look for the union label before buying your hostess coat?

by Anonymousreply 130December 21, 2021 2:08 AM

R129, it's the jacket with attached skirt-tails that Auntie Mame wore. Now I have to find the scene. She wears Laura P. Oh, Robbbbbb! pants and a sleeveless shell underneath.

I'd prefer joggers and a tee. I just need a hostess coat of black on gold toile with scenes of accounting. I also want it to be three quarter sleeve with perhaps a super dropped lapel.

by Anonymousreply 131December 21, 2021 3:29 AM

Scenes of accounting....now that's definitely underwhelming.

by Anonymousreply 132December 21, 2021 3:40 AM

I have mouse in the house. I recognize the small, pellet sized droppings.

(I do keep a clean house and kitchen. I'm in the midst of having a bathtub replaced with a walk-in shower and the floor had to be left open overnight. I also recently had a new sub-floor and vinyl flooring installed.

An ambitious mouse (is there any other kind?) accepted the unintended invitation.)

Have you ever used one of those old-fashioned snapper mouse traps?

Were you able to stand it when you had to "discard" the trapped mouse?

by Anonymousreply 133December 21, 2021 12:36 PM

Went to King's this morning to get a sandwich for lunch today. I could swear I ordered ham and swiss but it appears I've been served turkey and swiss instead. I am whelmed by this revelation.

[quote]I have mouse in the house

I don't wish to whelm you further, but one seldom has just one mouse in the house.

by Anonymousreply 135December 21, 2021 6:35 PM

It could be a hermit mouse.

by Anonymousreply 136December 21, 2021 6:41 PM

I froze some Cheryl’s cookies. I’m warming one up now between my ass cheeks.

by Anonymousreply 137December 21, 2021 7:23 PM

A too-obvious attempt to whelm readers of this thread, R137. We don't cotton to that around these parts.

by Anonymousreply 138December 21, 2021 7:34 PM

I was going to buy small bottles of Korbel champagne for the staff at my dentist's office. But I can only find the 4 pack at one Bottle King near my job. I didn't feel like stopping on my way home because it's a nightmare to get in and out of there when there ISN'T a holiday. Right now, it's damn near impossible. It gets so bad they have to hire a cop to direct traffic.

Anyway, there's a Dunkin' Donuts near the office so I'll give them a gift card after the 1st of the year. They are closed starting Thursday afternoon through the end of the year.

by Anonymousreply 139December 21, 2021 8:36 PM

I am on a shuttle bus from metropolis to bumpkinville for an underwhelming Christmas. Besides one loud couple yakking and wearing masks, I am double masked and feeling quite relaxed.

by Anonymousreply 140December 22, 2021 10:51 PM

I find all this mask talk whelming.

by Anonymousreply 141December 23, 2021 1:30 AM

Today's agenda centers on wrapping three presents: all books, which should come as no surprise to the recipients.

by Anonymousreply 142December 24, 2021 3:56 PM

My house smells like farts today.

by Anonymousreply 143December 24, 2021 4:11 PM

My sweaters arrived. The coral crewneck is whelmingly bright, but cotton fades. Right?

by Anonymousreply 144December 25, 2021 5:09 AM

It will be me and my dog home tomorrow. Snow and freezing rain is coming soon.

by Anonymousreply 145December 25, 2021 5:23 AM

Same here, R145: me, dog, miserable weather.

This is why we drink.

Didn't water my tree as I read somewhere that it doesn't matter because it has o roots to absorb the water. Any of you know anything about this? To water or not to water?

by Anonymousreply 150December 25, 2021 7:21 PM

OF COURSE you water them. What are you, 15 years old?

by Anonymousreply 151December 25, 2021 7:34 PM

Are you talking Xmas tree, R150?

by Anonymousreply 152December 25, 2021 7:51 PM

Let’s see—tree with no roots. Hmmm.

by Anonymousreply 153December 25, 2021 7:59 PM

People. Don't disappointed me. What season are we in? Ofcourse xmast 🌳 🏡 🌲 🎄

by Anonymousreply 154December 25, 2021 8:10 PM

The tree sucks the water up - which is why you made a fresh cut at the base when you installed it.

Think of a big flower in a vase of water. Yeah. You may pronounce it "vahz" if you must.

by Anonymousreply 155December 25, 2021 8:40 PM

🎄trees are already a couple months from being cut down when you buy them. So fresh cut will help tree absorb water in the stand. However, in my experience they only drink for a couple days, a week at most anyhow. Just don't touch the tree once you decorate it and it won't drop too many needles.

by Anonymousreply 156December 25, 2021 9:57 PM

I just saw a video clip of a watered Christmas tree, which did not easily catch on fire, and an unwatered one, which quickly caught fire and led to the entire house burning down. So, yes, you should water your tree.

by Anonymousreply 157December 25, 2021 10:09 PM

We have three inches of snow and everyone is hibernating.

These are the people who wear Tevas in December. Introduce snow and they behave like cats around sticky children.

by Anonymousreply 160December 27, 2021 12:55 AM

My cousin gave me a ceramic dish for Christmas that worked well for reheating leftovers from Friday for tonight's dinner.

by Anonymousreply 161December 27, 2021 12:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 163December 27, 2021 1:16 AM

Hope everyone's holiday weekend wasn't too whelming. My Saturday was a bit so I've spent today recharging and diving in to some of the books I got for Christmas.

by Anonymousreply 164December 27, 2021 8:35 AM

What books did you get?

My brother gave me "Bollywood Kitchen: Home-Cooked Indian Meals Paired with Unforgettable Bollywood Films" which, along with the incredible photography, had me wanting to make many of the recipes then and there!

by Anonymousreply 165December 27, 2021 9:28 AM

by Anonymousreply 166December 27, 2021 10:32 AM

Packaging whelms me frequently, R166. I once e-mailed Campbell's about a product that I to this day love with a passion and that is the clear best of its kind on supermarket shelves, regarding the absurd opening mechanism. It resulted, 100% of the time, in 1-3 tablespoonfuls of liquid exploding all over the counter. The response I got was an extremely passive-aggressive and hilariously sarcastic one, emphasizing not only how much research they put into their product designs but also vaguely suggesting that I might be retarded. After hearing many tales of coupons and apologies, I received nothing of the sort. The response was so funny it was better than an apology, though. And clearly from a human being, which I appreciate these days.

Also, the year after I sent that email the opening was redesigned. I know my email wasn't responsible but it really was surprisingly shit and I guess either enough people complained or someone at Campbells actually tried to use their own product and ended up splattering most of it all over their kitchen.

by Anonymousreply 167December 27, 2021 11:06 AM

I want it to snow here but it won't.

by Anonymousreply 168December 27, 2021 12:38 PM

I went to a fisting party on Christmas afternoon. But I didn't want to be whelmed, so I only topped.

Please stop mentioning sauciers in this thread. I can't decide between adding to my kitchen a saucier or a Windsor pan. The indecision is already whelming me and the mentions above make it so much worse.

I made a terrine to take to the Christmas party mentioned above. During my preparation, I failed to account for the size of my terrine pan and the specifications of the recipe. To make a long story short, my terrine pan was too small for all the filling I had prepared!

If it's not one thing, it's surely going to be another.

by Anonymousreply 173December 27, 2021 10:13 PM

I made chicken taquitos and cooked them in my air fryer.

by Anonymousreply 174December 27, 2021 10:53 PM

Please expand a bit about your air fryer experience, because I think it's potentially useful... or another gadget.

by Anonymousreply 175December 27, 2021 11:01 PM

I haven't done much with the air fryer yet but the taquitos turned out very well as did Korean BBQ and fancy grilled cheese sandwiches. "Air Fried Oreos" were disgusting and I feel bamboozled by all the YTers who raved about them. I also reheated Shepherd's Pie which turned out perfectly and kept the mashed potato topping crisp.

I like slicing vegetables (knife). I think people like the auto choppers because of hand issues.

Walmart underwear? PLEASE don't let there be any polyester in that underwear. I'm feeling whelmed about this.

by Anonymousreply 198December 30, 2021 1:47 AM

There's nothing whelming about scratching your nuts through polyester.

This morning at five am I stepped outside to smoke. There, in the middle of a snowy parking lot, I saw a large black cat hunched over, ears laid back taking a shit.

I turned around so I wouldn't seem nosy. When I looked back, he was still pooping.

I walked closer. It was a huge piece of slush that dropped from a vehicle's wheel well.

by Anonymousreply 201December 30, 2021 4:38 AM

R200 been meaning to start watching Ozark, but people keep telling me every character on it is an unlikable asshole and I find those kinds of shows whelming and depressing. Call me old fashioned, but I have to have someone to root for. Then again, I do enjoy Succession.

by Anonymousreply 229January 4, 2022 6:59 PM

R229 I don't do the decoration and other Christmassy stuff, but I do agree with you, January is very gloomy. Very anti-climactic after all the build up of Christmas/New Year etc.

by Anonymousreply 230January 4, 2022 8:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 240January 5, 2022 5:00 AM

I just finished having a bowl of Life cereal with almond milk, now I am reading a book (online) about Jack Lord.

by Anonymousreply 241January 5, 2022 5:03 AM

I've binged FOUR days in a row since New Years Day. I took a 2.5 mile walk tonight- that's in addition to my usual morning walk of 2.2 miles. I ALWAYS take a longer second walk at night on a day I've binged.

The good news in all this is that two houses that I walk by at night still have their beautiful Christmas lights on.

by Anonymousreply 242January 5, 2022 5:05 AM

Life cereal gets soggy too quickly, R241. Am slightly whelmed just thinking about it.

by Anonymousreply 243January 5, 2022 6:12 AM

I prefer Shreddies to Life. They are perfectly underwhelming either crunch or soggy.

by Anonymousreply 244January 5, 2022 6:19 AM

Same, R244. I don't think the Americans (or anyone except us) has Shreddies? How whelming for them.

by Anonymousreply 245January 5, 2022 6:27 AM

It wasn’t whelming as long as we didn’t know about them, so thanks for the heads up.

by Anonymousreply 246January 5, 2022 6:30 AM

Aren't Shreddies, which I believe to be Canadian, more like small shredded wheat biscuits, as opposed to Life, which is primarily made from oats?

Travel is so broadening. I still remember, on my first visit to London, discovering that Kellogg's Frosted Flakes are called "Frosties" in England.

by Anonymousreply 247January 5, 2022 6:55 AM

I'm not sure about ingredient differences, R247. Shreddies are Canadian and are darker brown in colour than Life cereal, which is pale.

You're so right about the way in which travel broadens all our horizons. I discovered that even cereal with the same name is sometimes different in the UK. For example, Special K is very different there to here. I wonder what it's like in the United States? I have yet to try American Special K and might have to set aside an afternoon on a hoped-for upcoming trip to try it.

Apologies to R246, I feel terrible for your possible whelmation at my hands. :(

by Anonymousreply 260January 5, 2022 5:42 PM

I just realised it's now been over two years since I first heard about the coronavirus. Around 2 Jan 2020, I read an article about patients in China who were being diagnosed with a mysterious new virus that was baffling doctors.

by Anonymousreply 261January 5, 2022 5:42 PM

I'm starting the new year off with a severe black eye, busted up nose and a swollen upper lip. I was trying to sprint towards my truck when I left the store because it was sleeting, and lost my footing and faceplanted *hard*. I can't leave my house for weeks now until this heals up.

by Anonymousreply 264January 5, 2022 7:28 PM

Sorry to hear of that, R262.

The soup bowls I'd ordered from Overstock were marked Delivered by UPS on Monday, but arrived today. I suspect they'd been mis-delivered, collected, and re-attempted correctly.

For some reason, I was reading Michelle Williams's Wiki page (the actress, not Beyonce's former bandmate). She married her first husband around summer 2018, filed for divorce in April 2019, and married her second husband in March 2020. My first thought was that I wouldn't have the energy for that much drama.

by Anonymousreply 268January 5, 2022 11:33 PM

My refrigerator is empty and it’s too dark and cold to go shopping. Popcorn for dinner!

by Anonymousreply 269January 6, 2022 12:21 AM

My step-mom cooks for us every night, so I can't complain, but she's trying to make us eat vegetarian dishes more. So we're having pasta alfredo with broccoli, but no chicken! Damn.

by Anonymousreply 270January 6, 2022 12:59 AM

How do you like your popcorn, r269? Are you a butter-and salt person or a Let’s-add-herbs-and-spices! type?

by Anonymousreply 271January 6, 2022 12:59 AM

R268 And then she had a baby. Whew. That’s a fair amount of chaos in a short time. Not the greatest thing for her teenage daughter but hopefully all is calm now. Funny, I missed that brief marriage too, was it not well publicized? I wonder what the ex’s story is.

by Anonymousreply 272January 6, 2022 1:00 AM

I feel for you, R270, as I loathe broccoli.

by Anonymousreply 273January 6, 2022 1:02 AM

Just salt, r271. I love the butter, but I’m trying to watch my weight.

by Anonymousreply 274January 6, 2022 1:54 AM

Actors are all insane disordered self-hating attention whores, R268. Of course not 100% of the but unlike the gen pop it's a question of which of them *aren't* insane, not which of them are. The base assumption is always insanity.

I'm so sorry you fell, R262 and hope you are not in any pain. That will teach you to exert yourself. How whelming. Oh dear.

A package arrived for me today, R265, from well.ca. Inside were 1 large bottle of Dr. Bronners Sal-Suds, 1x jar of Simply Organic garlic powder, 1x pair of rubber gloves and 1x package of off-brand cetirizine.

by Anonymousreply 275January 6, 2022 2:43 AM

I have a choice to make; make dessert of carrot with blue cheese (dirties the peeler, cutting board, bowl, spoon, and knife) or sneak down to the corner store for demented off-brand candy (wastes money I need for other shit and I'll eat it all at once).

by Anonymousreply 276January 6, 2022 2:53 AM

Good luck! I loathe blue cheese as much as broccoli.

by Anonymousreply 277January 6, 2022 2:56 AM

Am I the only not impressed by New Years anymore? This whole 'new year, get on it' thing I'm exhausted by. Not to mention, the least two years feel like 1 long year. Time just goes on...

by Anonymousreply 278January 6, 2022 3:16 AM

I am watching The Conjuring. Patrick Wilson is so hot.

by Anonymousreply 279January 6, 2022 5:31 AM

My mommy loves Tates cookies, so I bought some of their ginger biscuits for her today at Big Lots. Shall present them on Sunday over asparagus risotto.

by Anonymousreply 280January 6, 2022 6:49 PM

I've been watching Lucifer on Netflix these last few weeks. WHET Tom Ellis?

by Anonymousreply 281January 6, 2022 8:20 PM

I made Mrs. T's Pierogies in the air fryer for lunch and was not pleased with the results.

I'll stick to boil then pan fry in the future.

by Anonymousreply 282January 6, 2022 8:57 PM

It's been nearly ten years since Whitney Houston died. I had not discovered DL yet, but I'm guessing it was rather insane that day.

by Anonymousreply 283January 6, 2022 11:13 PM

Yes, miracles DO happen:

I just finished writing up some bills. I'm going to go to the post office now to mail them.

by Anonymousreply 286January 7, 2022 3:29 AM

I'm watching The Big Sick. It is charming.

by Anonymousreply 287January 7, 2022 3:45 AM

That will feel good to get done, R286.

I ordered ubereats tonight. It was a billion calories and very delicious.

by Anonymousreply 288January 7, 2022 4:23 AM

I made potato soup and managed to use all my vegetables - peas, carrots, onion, celery. Topped it off with white castle sliders to balance my diet.

I'll have a clean fridge for groceries tomorrow night.

I complimented the soup with white castle burgers.

by Anonymousreply 289January 7, 2022 6:31 AM

[quote]I complimented the soup with white castle burgers.

"Well done, soup! Have a White Castle burger!"

by Anonymousreply 290January 7, 2022 6:33 AM

That made me laugh, R290. Not so hard it became whelming, but just enough.

by Anonymousreply 291January 7, 2022 7:43 AM

It snowed overnight here in northwest NJ. It's beautiful on the trees. Oddly enough, I've seen blue birds, cardinals, and some smaller birds all pecking away at the snow to get to the bird seed underneath. Cos is thoroughly entertained!

by Anonymousreply 292January 7, 2022 2:07 PM

I have purchased some Publix eggnog ice cream, because it is totally delicious.

by Anonymousreply 293January 7, 2022 6:56 PM

Is it made with real nogs?

by Anonymousreply 294January 7, 2022 8:33 PM

I assume so!

by Anonymousreply 295January 7, 2022 10:54 PM

Is there anything such s fake nogs?

by Anonymousreply 296January 7, 2022 10:56 PM

^What you buy in cartons in grocery stores, I would certainly call fake.

by Anonymousreply 297January 8, 2022 12:33 AM

Eggs? R297

by Anonymousreply 298January 8, 2022 12:35 AM

^The stuff is so skanky (or used to be), I haven't looked at the ingredients in decades. I don't buy it or drink it unless somebody makes it from scratch. It was kind of like the idea of calling "ice milk" ice cream back in the '60s...

by Anonymousreply 299January 8, 2022 12:37 AM

Ironically, I tried a carton of something called Southern Custard (we're talking Publix here) that seemed pretty similar to eggnog to me.

I get that supermarket eggnog is processed as hell, but I really don't care.

Yellow gummies are the Tucker Carlsons of jelly treats.

by Anonymousreply 301January 8, 2022 8:22 AM

I have to go to the health food store now to pick up a jar of Organic No salt No sugar Sunflower Butter plus some of their eggless egg salad- if they have any.

by Anonymousreply 302January 8, 2022 5:12 PM

Is sunflower butter good? What do you use it for?

by Anonymousreply 303January 8, 2022 5:54 PM

I squeezed some lemon into my blueberry tea and the aftertaste feels like glue sticks.

by Anonymousreply 304January 8, 2022 6:16 PM

R303- I put it on toasted Ezekiel Bread topped with sliced strawberries, grapes or blueberries.

by Anonymousreply 305January 8, 2022 6:33 PM

I went to the local pharmacy to get my booster. All of their walk-in slots were taken. I'm going back tomorrow at 10 a.m.

by Anonymousreply 306January 8, 2022 7:56 PM

I can't move things using the power of my brain as expected, but my dick still works and that has been a worry since the "mini blood clots in the penis" stories surfaced.

by Anonymousreply 312January 9, 2022 4:22 PM

I made a copycat Taco Bell Crunchwrap in my air fryer, it was very good.

I actually haven't been to Taco Bell since circa Obama's first term so I don't really know what an "authentic" Taco Bell Crunchwrap tastes like. I came across the recipe on YT and thought it was a nifty idea.

by Anonymousreply 313January 9, 2022 5:07 PM

I've been watching the Mary Tyler Moore Show on youtube lately. I did not start at the first season. Right now I'm on Season 4 Episode 15- Happy Birthday Lou!

It's hard to believe that Ted Knight was only 49 years old in this episode. He looks at least 13 or 14 years older. Carroll O'Conner also looked MUCH older than his age in the early 1970's.

by Anonymousreply 314January 9, 2022 8:11 PM

I am binging Baskets on Fx. I love shows that are both touching and droll. Ricky Gervais' After Life is another one like this.

by Anonymousreply 316January 10, 2022 6:53 AM

R316 your friend is correct. The pronunciation is evident when writing the names of these letters in Greek. Short "o" = O/o, while long "o" = Ω/w

Omicron/ omicron Ωmega/ wmega

I went to the bakery this morning to pick up some 7 layer cake that I ordered on Sunday. I put it in my freezer. Knowing I have it in the house will enable me to be good for a while so I don't binge. I get very panicky if I don't have any YUMMY things in the house to eat.

by Anonymousreply 324January 11, 2022 7:31 PM

You don’t really hear about “ring around the collar” anymore. What once whelmed, now doesn’t seem to exist.

by Anonymousreply 325January 11, 2022 10:17 PM

I would really like a brownie, but my foot hurts and I don’t want to go out. Would you be a love . . .

Nah.

by Anonymousreply 327January 11, 2022 10:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 328January 11, 2022 11:15 PM

I finally tried the infamous leaked secret KFC recipe. It does indeed taste just like it! Though it needs a little MSG (KFC confirmed they do use MSG as well). Honestly though, for the cost of all these ingredients, you're better off just going to KFC instead.

JEALOUS?

by Anonymousreply 339January 12, 2022 7:24 PM

Shortly before bed last night, I was searching YouTube for a funeral episode of a soap opera. I couldn't find it, but (presumably because "funeral" was one of the search terms) YouTube recommended me a video of an elderly man dying, complete with death rattle. For some completely insane reason, my morbid curiosity got the better of me and I opened it. Surprisingly, I actually slept pretty well afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 346January 13, 2022 4:13 AM

A thread for random, wondering thoughts might be good too. R340's death watching brought a few up philosophical ones for me...which I now have forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 347January 13, 2022 6:47 AM

I’m not underwhelmed but don’t where else to post this. Just watched the episode of Hot in Cleveland with all the MTM girls and realized they are all gone now: MTM, Clovis, Georgia, Valerie, and now, Betty.

by Anonymousreply 348January 16, 2022 2:00 PM

R348- CLOVIS was my favorite

For those who, like me, rarely use milk, try buying the small bottle from your local corner store, like 7-11 or Krauszer's or a bodega. I think it's a 16 oz. bottle. I still wind up throwing some out since I eat cold cereal about once a month or so but at least it's not a quart of milk. Before you mention using it in coffee, I prefer half and half or light cream and rarely if ever make mashed potatoes.

by Anonymousreply 378January 18, 2022 3:11 PM

I bought my grandma her very first smartphone with a nice data plan as she wants to be online. She’s had the phone for about 7 days then called me with a whole shitload of basic internet navigation questions. I told her I would stop by after work and help her out. Well, I was in for quite a shock. While I was holding her phone I thumbed through the browser tabs on her phone and found pics of men sucking cock and a video of a woman with 2 cocks in her asshole. I closed the tabs and then told her that I could no longer help her. Then I went home and cried.

We don’t go for liars around here.

Hee hee

Just got back from PetCo. I bought Cos a new litter box and some litter. They had some really nice cat towers but they were really expensive.

I bought Cos a multi-level cat tower for Xmas. Unfortunately, he like his Mom, have some weight issues. He can't lay comfortably on the shelves because they are so small. I may take that one down, donate it, and buy him something more comfortable. I'm due a merit increase and a couple bonuses this year.

by Anonymousreply 413January 26, 2022 6:47 PM

Bonus will be well spent Cosmo!

Or for boooze and dope, either.

by Anonymousreply 415January 26, 2022 7:11 PM

Actually, booze and dope are just fine.

Entering the supermarket today, I received an enthusiastic greeting of "Hi, neighbor!" from a fellow exiting. Unfortunately, I had no idea who he might've been?

by Anonymousreply 417January 26, 2022 7:55 PM

Possibly a neighbor r417?

by Anonymousreply 418January 26, 2022 8:19 PM

Obviously yes, but not one who meant anything to me despite his enthusiasm as though we connect regularly.

by Anonymousreply 419January 26, 2022 8:26 PM

This sounds intriguing, R419, in an underwhelming sort of way. Do keep us posted about any further developments.

by Anonymousreply 420January 26, 2022 8:56 PM

I’m so fuckin’ tired.

by Anonymousreply 421January 26, 2022 8:57 PM

I get it r421. I’m so tired I feel it my bones…and 12 hours sleep isn’t enough.

by Anonymousreply 422January 26, 2022 10:12 PM

I’m gonna visit my local Merle Norman cosmetic studio tomorrow.

I just spent, in total, an hour, trying to find out where my SmileDirectClub aligners are. I had my impressions done on 12/29 and provided the clearance letter from my general dentist. I just found out that my file still says they are waiting for the clearance. I just cancelled my order. I'll spend more money and go to a dentist in my area for InvisAlign.

Oh, and their commercial is a real song. I heard it about a dozen times and am now homicidal.

by Anonymousreply 424January 28, 2022 6:12 PM

Cosmo, unfortunately I find absolutely NOTHING in r424 remotely underwhelming.

by Anonymousreply 425January 28, 2022 6:17 PM

i know and I apologize, R425, but I just needed to vent.

I just got off the phone with SDC and they have updated my file. I'm expecting a confirmation call tomorrow about the aligners.

My bread was kind of dry because I didn’t notice the plastic bag had a hole, so my toast was too crisp. I ate it anyway, and a shard stuck into the roof of my mouth, and now it’s been painful for three days!

by Anonymousreply 427January 28, 2022 7:11 PM

I bought a bottle of green grape soju today, which I hope will not be too sweet; am second-guessing myself on whether grapefruit might have been a better choice?

by Anonymousreply 428January 28, 2022 7:23 PM

I just got home from Merle Norman. I bought some translucent face powder.

by Anonymousreply 429January 28, 2022 8:26 PM

I feel like I should go out before the storm. I don’t really need anything. Sigh.

by Anonymousreply 430January 28, 2022 8:46 PM

Get something tasty you don't need that you can enjoy while you're stuck inside during the storm, R430.

by Anonymousreply 431January 28, 2022 8:59 PM

I’m trying to avoid carbs. What else is tasty?

by Anonymousreply 432January 28, 2022 9:08 PM

[quote]I’m trying to avoid carbs. What else is tasty?

Nothing else is tasty.

by Anonymousreply 433January 28, 2022 9:09 PM

Exactly.

by Anonymousreply 434January 28, 2022 9:16 PM

Cock?

by Anonymousreply 435January 28, 2022 9:29 PM

Lornadoone cookies by Nabisco

by Anonymousreply 436January 28, 2022 9:41 PM

So it looks like I’m not drinking enough water. I looked it up and I should be drinking 3 liters a day. Are they fucking kidding? That’s 9 La Croix cans a day.
