I want to be underwhelmed—Holiday edition

The crisp autumn air is filled with the growls of gasoline engines and I need soothing

by Anonymousreply 600December 15, 2021 6:58 PM

Where were we?

by Anonymousreply 1November 19, 2021 3:52 PM

To reply to the last thread on the previous post, no. My dentist is not hot. He's probably in his late 60s/early 70s and, poor man, an avid NY Jets fan. But he knows his stuff as far as dentistry is concerned.

by Anonymousreply 2November 19, 2021 5:17 PM

I got an uber code for €20 free food. Even though I already ate I still ordered Chinese

I am a cheap and fat whole

by Anonymousreply 3November 19, 2021 5:27 PM

Whelming, but funny, today I returned some photos at Walgreens that devolved into a "Who's on first?" skit until we finally resolved the situation.

by Anonymousreply 4November 19, 2021 7:54 PM

My computer screen has been FILTHY for years. Last night I looked up how to clean it. 70% Rubbing alcohol on a microfiber rub on computer screen. The instructions say to disconnect the computer screen. I could not do that because I would not be able to tell if I had cleaned it properly so I left it turned on. The end result has been my computer screen almost looks new. There are still remnants of my meals on the screen but it's still a dramatic improvement from before. I'm quite pleased with the results.

by Anonymousreply 5November 19, 2021 7:56 PM

Returning photos at Walgreens, R4? Are you posting from the 20th century?

by Anonymousreply 6November 19, 2021 8:00 PM

I am off to knee chiro. He is doing active release on my rt. goose foot (pes anserine). I love having goose feet on my knees!

by Anonymousreply 7November 19, 2021 8:01 PM

I hope the holiday treats I got for my dog don't give her diarrhea.

by Anonymousreply 8November 19, 2021 8:20 PM

I am underwhelmingly disgusted by your bland acceptance of your own filth r5.

by Anonymousreply 9November 19, 2021 8:36 PM

I had trouble with the ATM today at the bank. The machine would accept my card and pin, but wouldn’t complete a transaction. I went inside the bank to see what the problem was…

It was me. I wasn’t using my ATM card, I was using my credit card. The teller could tell I was embarrassed, but she was very kind.

by Anonymousreply 10November 19, 2021 8:58 PM

My junky little car passed emissions inspection today, and getting there and back was a nice drive through changing leaves with Adele on the stereo.

by Anonymousreply 11November 19, 2021 9:04 PM

LOL, R10. I can relate somewhat.

In the 2000s I was traveling a lot for work and was in Kennesaw, GA. I'm from NJ, by the way. I pulled into the gas station and sat at the pump, waiting for one of the attendants to fill my tank. I must have sat there 3 or so minutes, wondering why they were just standing around. I then noticed everyone else pumping their own gas. Glad I noticed that because I was getting ready to get out of the car and yell at them.

Update - Dentist appointment was a success. I didn't have any cavities but he did notice a worn metallic filling so he replaced it.

by Anonymousreply 12November 19, 2021 9:06 PM

R5 is/was a pig.

by Anonymousreply 13November 19, 2021 9:13 PM

[quote]It was me. I wasn’t using my ATM card, I was using my credit card.

I've done that. It's CRAZY!

by Anonymousreply 14November 19, 2021 9:34 PM

My Volkswagen which I've had for over 12 and a half years has a film of grime on the front window and back window. When I'm driving at night it looks like the windshield is fogged up. I can barely see with the glare of cars headlights and the film of grime. I finally did something about it on Sunday. I went online and I read that the best way to clean the window grime is a combination of White Vinegar and water in a spray bottle and clean with a micro fiber cloth. I did the inside and the outside of the front window - just to be thorough. I did the back window inside and out as well. What a dramatic difference. I guess I'm on a roll lately.

by Anonymousreply 15November 19, 2021 9:40 PM

R5 and r15 it's much easier if you keep up on these things...🙂

by Anonymousreply 16November 19, 2021 9:47 PM

[quote] I guess I'm on a roll lately.

Certainly less whelming than winding up in a ditch r15.

by Anonymousreply 17November 19, 2021 10:03 PM

Fleas. Our dog has fleas. I've used the medicine on the back of her neck, flea shampoo and a pill that's supposed to kill them when they bite her.

I'm definitely underwhelmed with how well they work. I'm getting bit.

Going to give her a bath in the morning, flea bomb the house and take a nice drive with her for a few hours while the fog settles.

by Anonymousreply 18November 19, 2021 10:12 PM

R3 I may just be in love with you!

by Anonymousreply 19November 19, 2021 10:19 PM

An idea. Wouldn't it be better to get rid of the dog?

Goodbye fleas?

by Anonymousreply 20November 19, 2021 10:25 PM

You're in love with a cheap fat whole r19?

by Anonymousreply 21November 19, 2021 10:37 PM

If it was a whore it would be less attractive. You see or you don't see?

by Anonymousreply 22November 19, 2021 10:40 PM

They were oversize (poster) photos, R6.

by Anonymousreply 23November 19, 2021 10:46 PM

R12, r14…

Thanks, that makes me feel a little better. It probably wouldn’t have bothered me as much, but it was only a day ago that I couldn’t find my car in the supermarket parking lot.

by Anonymousreply 24November 20, 2021 12:58 AM

I keep looking up a dog rehoming website. I’d love to rescue a dog, but all the ones available are either in the kennels because they are huge, ferocious things which tried to eat their previous owner, or seriously ill one-legged creatures with diabetes.

Is there no nice middle-aged mongrel out there looking for a new home?

by Anonymousreply 25November 20, 2021 1:08 AM

[quote]Is there no nice middle-aged mongrel out there looking for a new home?

Here in London there are notice boards at the Vet's office.

by Anonymousreply 26November 20, 2021 1:11 AM

Aww, R25, so sweet of you to want to bring home a middle-aged mongrel. Maybe communicate with the people who work at your local ASPCAs, Humane Societies, etc. Let them know what you're looking for. I always heard that older animals are hard to adopt out (people want puppies), so you may find a middle-aged dog.

by Anonymousreply 27November 20, 2021 1:13 AM

[quote] huge, ferocious things which tried to eat their previous owner, or seriously ill one-legged creatures with diabetes

This is it, the thing I laughed at on Datalounge that finally sent me straight to hell.

by Anonymousreply 28November 20, 2021 1:40 AM

Yesterday I was taking my daily walk and the sound of these worker cutting stone at the building site of a new McMansion plus the gardeners making a RACKET with their leaf machines- I had to take most of my walk with my fingers in my ears, unfortunately later my right was clogged. I must have pushed my earwax into my ear. I must make an appointment with my ear doctor to have my ear wax removed. I have not done so since August 2020.

by Anonymousreply 29November 20, 2021 2:14 AM

[quote] I had to take most of my walk with my fingers in my ears

Mary! Like this, R29?

by Anonymousreply 30November 20, 2021 2:27 AM

I got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday. Still quite tender and I look like a chipmunk now.

by Anonymousreply 31November 20, 2021 2:29 AM

R30- Have you been spying on me? That's exactly the expression I had on my face whilst having to endure so much NOISE pollution.

by Anonymousreply 32November 20, 2021 2:30 AM

I'm idly considering getting a testicular exam. No real need, but someone would gently cup and squeeze my balls for a mere $20 co-pay.

by Anonymousreply 33November 20, 2021 2:45 AM

I'm thinking of going on the alkaline diet for my heartburn but it looks difficult. It says vodka made from potatoes is less acidic so I bought some of that, $11.99 at Trader Joes.

Now I'm going to eat a banana.

by Anonymousreply 34November 20, 2021 2:46 AM

Try eating an apple every day, R34.

by Anonymousreply 35November 20, 2021 2:49 AM

Every time I see that ad on here of the guy's nipple, "Winter"s Where It's Hot," I think that's a dog's penis or tail next to his chest.

by Anonymousreply 36November 20, 2021 3:59 AM

I’m convinced that eating an apple a day cured my acid reflux. I read that apples contain a lot of pectin, which is good for the stomach.

by Anonymousreply 37November 20, 2021 4:45 AM

Pinch of baking soda + sip of water. Cures heartburn instantly. I didn't try it for a whole year because it sounded like old wives' tale bullshit. It works.

by Anonymousreply 38November 20, 2021 6:29 AM

Of course, baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, a base which neutralizes acids. Baking soda and water is just a homemade Tums (calcium bicarbonate).

by Anonymousreply 39November 20, 2021 6:55 AM

Tums never worked as well or as fast as the baking soda and water. I'm not saying you're wrong, R39 (you're not), just that the pinch of baking soda is basically instant and almost free given how cheap the stuff is.

by Anonymousreply 40November 20, 2021 7:10 AM

CocaCola is also excellent for any kind of indigestion/heartburn...anything icky to do with the stomach. Drink it quite fast from the can. I always keep a can in my fridge for these purposes.

by Anonymousreply 41November 20, 2021 11:51 AM

I use Gaviscon tablets.

I had to have a testicular sonogram ordered by the doctor years ago, where the tech was a female, and it wasn't very pleasant.

by Anonymousreply 42November 20, 2021 12:26 PM

I'm having a new hot water heater installed Monday.

I had a dream last night that Tony Dovolani from DWTS was the plumber who showed up to install it.

Anyone here well versed in dream interpretation?

by Anonymousreply 43November 20, 2021 12:40 PM

[quote]Anyone here well versed in dream interpretation?

Yes.

It's probably a premonition. Be prepared. Plump up the cushions and create a welcoming environment.

by Anonymousreply 44November 20, 2021 12:49 PM

[Is there no nice middle-aged mongrel out there looking for a new home?]

R25 pick me, pick me!

by Anonymousreply 45November 20, 2021 1:42 PM

I'm watching "Cheaters" on VH1 for the 1st time.

Overwhelmed by the sordid, but, weirdly, I don't seem to be changing the channel.

by Anonymousreply 46November 20, 2021 7:48 PM

Della - It seems you are being seduced by the dark side of the OVERWHELMING!

by Anonymousreply 47November 20, 2021 8:20 PM

r47, Ok, now I'm frightened.

by Anonymousreply 48November 20, 2021 9:46 PM

We haven't heard from Cosmo lately. I was fully invested in the dentist visits and now they're apparenly finished. I'm sad and underwhelmed.

by Anonymousreply 49November 21, 2021 2:20 AM

I'm sipping on a Canada Dry Cranberry Ginger Ale. Very festive.

by Anonymousreply 50November 21, 2021 4:01 AM

I just ate a whole can of Campbells Italian Wedding soup straight out of the can with a spoon.

by Anonymousreply 51November 21, 2021 5:15 AM

I was on two types of anti-biotics for ten days and now my tongue is all white and fuzzy. Will I die?

by Anonymousreply 52November 21, 2021 5:55 AM

It was a beautiful day so I worked in my garden for nine hours. Now I'm so sore I gasp when I stand up, so I will remain seated.

by Anonymousreply 53November 21, 2021 6:12 AM

Sounds whelming, R53. Hope you feel better but must ask you to leave at once.

Your microbiome is fucked by the antibiotics R52. Eat a load of fermented foods and raw vegetables. Keep eating them. (jk I'm not a doctor and have no idea what's wrong - I'm guessing)

by Anonymousreply 54November 21, 2021 6:39 AM

You admit you’re not a doctor, R54, but do you play one on TV?

by Anonymousreply 55November 21, 2021 6:58 AM

I’m putting the ho in Ho, Ho, Ho, MARY Christmas!!!!! by being a sloppy bottom at my boyfriend’s office party next week!!! I’m pre-gaming by douching and waxing my prolapsed anus and trying to see if I can do something about the smell.

by Anonymousreply 56November 21, 2021 7:05 AM

I have lost 6 pounds this month. Only 35 more to go until I'm not overweight per the BMI scale.

by Anonymousreply 57November 21, 2021 7:10 AM

good luck, R57

by Anonymousreply 58November 21, 2021 7:31 AM

Thank you. I've been intermittent fasting and trying to eat a sensible breakfast and getting some fresh air and exercise 4-5 times a week. Nothing too crazy. Slow and steady wins the race. I didn't put on the extra weight overnight and I won't take it off overnight either.

by Anonymousreply 59November 21, 2021 8:36 AM

R52 The anti-b's don't agree with you. Stop taking them and go back to Dr. Might be an allergy, or a diff kind of infection...have been there and turned out I was allergic to sulphur-base anti-b's. Can come on anytime even if you took the same before without issue. Pls take good care!

by Anonymousreply 60November 21, 2021 11:15 AM

Thanks, R60, I'm finished with the anti-biotics now. My initial problem is gone, but, man, do I ever feel like crap a lot of the time and my tongue is still all white and terrible looking. Bad taste in my mouth too, so I'll be heading off to the walk-in today.

by Anonymousreply 61November 21, 2021 2:52 PM

I've been watching Rhoda on youtube. I'm up to Season 3 Episode 2.

by Anonymousreply 62November 21, 2021 7:57 PM

I can't turn my head. Looks like chiropractor tomorrow in the am. No one is open today...

by Anonymousreply 67November 21, 2021 9:07 PM

R67- If you can't turn your head that means you can't drive.

by Anonymousreply 68November 21, 2021 9:09 PM

That is correct r68. I will not be driving unless I can turn my head tomorrow!

by Anonymousreply 69November 21, 2021 9:37 PM

I'm eating a Terry's Chocolate Orange.

by Anonymousreply 70November 22, 2021 1:15 AM

Canned cranberries, jellied or whole, are absent from my grocer's shelf.

by Anonymousreply 71November 22, 2021 1:24 AM

Greg farted.

by Anonymousreply 72November 22, 2021 1:38 AM

They're shit now R70.

by Anonymousreply 73November 22, 2021 3:07 AM

They were never nice. I'm surprised they're still made.

London.

I returned my bread making machine at an Amazon drop off place which I reported earlier on this thread. For those of you who have been following this story I have an update.

"We’ve received the item and have issued your refund. Thank you for sending the item back. Your return is now complete."

I was overwhelmed with worry all week that they wouldn't take it back. You'll remember that I broke the polystyrene packaging. Not my fault, it was very thin.

I'm so glad to see the back of that thing.

by Anonymousreply 74November 22, 2021 11:10 AM

Was the back of it that attractive r74?

by Anonymousreply 75November 22, 2021 11:19 AM

Is it not an American expression?

by Anonymousreply 76November 22, 2021 11:21 AM

Yes, you used the expression correctly.

by Anonymousreply 77November 22, 2021 12:07 PM

Hello, R49! I'm still here.

While the work the dentist feels better, I think I do have a cavity towards the front on the left. Oh well. I'll get that taken care of before the end of the year.

UHC Dental is still dragging its feet on providing my dentist with a pre-determination of benefits. The replacement posts and crown will cost about $1200. My insurance will pay 50% but I've almost hit the max for this benefit year. I told the office if you don't hear from UHC by the first week in Dec., I'll pay full price for the work. I don't give a shit about that right now. I just want my invisible aligners!

by Anonymousreply 78November 22, 2021 1:20 PM

[quote]CocaCola is also excellent for any kind of indigestion/heartburn...anythi - ng icky to do with the stomach. Drink it quite fast from the can. I always keep a can in my fridge for these purposes.

R41 When I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Africa, we got GI problems frequently. Coca cola and bananas were our go to treatment.

by Anonymousreply 79November 22, 2021 1:31 PM

My eyes are dry this morning. I hope I have eye drops in the medicine cabinet.

by Anonymousreply 80November 22, 2021 1:46 PM

R78 Sounds like you have very bad teeth. It's good you're taking care of them. Bad teeth and gums can lead to heart disease and other ailments.

by Anonymousreply 81November 22, 2021 4:09 PM

R78, my family doesn't have a good dental track record. Both sets of grandparents had dentures or missing teeth. We were lower middle class so basic dental care was provided but not much beyond that. Luckily, my jaw bones are in great condition. I have the money so, even in my last year in my 50s, I'm taking steps to care for and preserve the teeth I have.

by Anonymousreply 82November 22, 2021 4:34 PM

R52 You most likely have a fungal overgrowth which is common after taking antibiotics. Put yogurt on your tongue and eat some fermented foods.

by Anonymousreply 83November 22, 2021 4:39 PM

R52 My doc told me to always eat one of those small cartons of yogurt every day when taking anitbiotics.

by Anonymousreply 84November 22, 2021 5:00 PM

R84 good advice. Always consume some type of probiotic (yogurt, kombucha, kimchi etc. etc.) when taking antibiotics.

by Anonymousreply 85November 22, 2021 5:17 PM

When you're not working holidays are stupid. I don't need a break from my break.

I went to Jiffylube to put air in my tires because they do it for free. After I drove away I realized the guy was friendly because he probably expected a tip. Now I feel bad. He was even cute. What's wrong with me?

by Anonymousreply 86November 22, 2021 5:46 PM

^No I'm not cheap. I'm a very generous tipper.

by Anonymousreply 87November 22, 2021 5:47 PM

Let some of the air out and go back, r87.

by Anonymousreply 88November 22, 2021 5:50 PM

R88 I thought of that but I'd likely get a different guy, a less hot one.

by Anonymousreply 89November 22, 2021 5:52 PM

Penance r89.

by Anonymousreply 90November 22, 2021 6:01 PM

Waiting for an Amazon delivery. They keep pushing the time back. Started at 11:30-1:30. Now it's 1:00-3:00. I refuse to become whelmed.

by Anonymousreply 91November 22, 2021 6:02 PM

by Anonymousreply 93November 22, 2021 6:27 PM

I'm watching a 1993 episode of Law & Order with Jerry Orbach and Chris Noth. They are eating Italian ice. I miss NYC Italian ice.

by Anonymousreply 94November 22, 2021 6:30 PM

I was up in the city back in April...I was dying for a good street pretzel. All I could find were falafel trucks on the street...I wanted a pretzel

by Anonymousreply 95November 22, 2021 6:40 PM

R82, you're smart to take care of your teeth. I have good teeth but bad gums and bone loss. I go to either the dentist or the periodontist 4X per year, total. It's definitely worth preserving what you have.

by Anonymousreply 96November 22, 2021 6:54 PM

My Amazon order arrived a little before 2:00. The blue tin of Dansk Butter Cookies are what I was most looking forward to.

by Anonymousreply 97November 22, 2021 7:08 PM

How was the condition of those cookies, R97? Intact? Those cookies seem a little fragile to me. Broken or not, enjoy.

by Anonymousreply 98November 22, 2021 7:26 PM

They're fine, r98. No problems.

by Anonymousreply 99November 22, 2021 7:29 PM

Very glad to hear that, R99. Would you mind submitting a review on Amazon?

by Anonymousreply 100November 22, 2021 8:07 PM

R95- I hope you ate/eat them with mustard- I LOVE a hot pretzel 🥨 with mustard.

by Anonymousreply 101November 22, 2021 8:10 PM

I had spinach pie for lunch today. It was good 👍.

by Anonymousreply 102November 22, 2021 8:31 PM

I decided to try the store brand of ice cream, but didn’t notice “chocolate-flavored chips.” WTF?

by Anonymousreply 103November 22, 2021 9:21 PM

I buy store brands, R103, but not for ice cream.

by Anonymousreply 104November 22, 2021 9:25 PM

The supermarket was so crowded I’m happy to have escaped alive.

by Anonymousreply 105November 22, 2021 9:26 PM

Chocolate-flavored chips in “creamy ice cream.” The word “vanilla” does not appear anywhere on the box.

by Anonymousreply 106November 22, 2021 9:32 PM

Just came in from my walk about 30 minutes ago. I didn't do my usual 3 laps because it's too cold and raw outside. Damn, the change to standard time. I miss my long afternoon walks after work. I can't seem to get motivated enough to do it at Noon or 1 PM.

by Anonymousreply 107November 22, 2021 9:32 PM

Having tasted it, I vow to throw the vile concoction out. Wish me luck.

by Anonymousreply 108November 22, 2021 9:43 PM

R61 it sounds like thrush. its common after taking antibiotics

by Anonymousreply 109November 22, 2021 10:47 PM

I ordered cat litter and pate from PetSmart delivery but forgot the darn crunchies! How will these beasts survive on pate alone?

by Anonymousreply 110November 23, 2021 12:53 AM

I'm worried a package I am due to receive will not be delivered and instead I will have to go to the post office to pick it up. I really don't want to go to the post office. Verging on whelmed.

Have him stay in the car and bring him a tray R113.

by Anonymousreply 115November 23, 2021 2:01 AM

I was at Trader Joe's this evening. I walked by the ice cream section. I squeezed the ice cream. It was SOFT.

by Anonymousreply 116November 23, 2021 2:01 AM

This afternoon I decided to watch the remake of Thomas Crown Affair with Pierce Brosnan which is streaming on Prime video for only 9 more days. However, when I pulled up the video there was a large picture of Steve Mc Queen who, people might know, starred in the original. Everything else indicates the video is the Brosnan version.

I was not expecting to be confronted with this confusing juxtaposition and thought it rather unfair to Mr. Brosnan. I feel the implication is that Steve McQueen has some kind of proprietary right to the role of Thomas Crown when no such sentiment, critical or popular, has ever been expressed to my knowledge.

by Anonymousreply 117November 23, 2021 2:07 AM

I bought ice cream today, R116. I don't normally eat ice cream but there's a company here called Chapmans, and the anti-vaxxers are boycotting them because they are putting in a vaccine mandate and have given vaxxed employees a one dollar an hour raise, so I just had to buy some, lol.

I'm putting together some items for donation. I'm hoping they'll take some Christmas decorations. I have a couple of wreaths, some lights, and some ornaments that are in new condition.

by Anonymousreply 126November 23, 2021 5:51 AM

Do you have Freecycle or a similar service in your area R126? I've listed Xmas decorations on their twice and both went very quickly. Within 1-2 hours of posting.

My neck is getting better!! Can actually turn my head but not dull range of motion. Amazing what heat and rest and massage and advil can do! Today I will be at chiro again.

by Anonymousreply 133November 23, 2021 4:50 PM

I walked to my local Shop Rite to pick up a few things so I can officially say I went for a walk. It was weird going out at mid-day but I could get used to it.

I qualified for a free turkey breast. I have to pick it up by 11/25 so I guess I'll go out tomorrow and see if I can score one. I might enjoy some turkey on Christmas. It will be my first Christmas alone (with Cos, of course) and I'm kinda looking forward to it.

by Anonymousreply 134November 23, 2021 8:29 PM

R122 here. The cheesecake turned out fine. It did crack in the middle though. I was thinking of making a caramel sauce to cover it up.

by Anonymousreply 135November 23, 2021 9:57 PM

Interesting, R134, as this year will be the first Christmas in two decades that I haven't been alone.

by Anonymousreply 137November 23, 2021 10:04 PM

R134 Cosmo, it is refreshing to be alone for a holiday or two. No pressure. Plus Cosmo (the cat) will enjoy sharing bits of the turkey!

by Anonymousreply 138November 23, 2021 11:19 PM

I hope all you American DLers have a great Thanksgiving!!

The little thrift store took my extra Christmas decorations, I was happy to get rid of them and very happy they didn't end up in a landfill.

I went to my doctor yesterday and yup, I have thrush. I have to take Nystatin for 10 days, four times a day. Swish and swallow. At least the taste isn't awful.

by Anonymousreply 139November 23, 2021 11:25 PM

R139 Thanks for the update. We were worried about you.

by Anonymousreply 140November 23, 2021 11:33 PM

I had dental work today. It was less whelming than expected. However, half of my head is numb and I'm afraid to eat my Wendy's chili (conveniently located across from the dentist) for fear of shredding my tongue.

by Anonymousreply 141November 24, 2021 12:10 AM

R141, my mother was a dental hygienist. She used to tell patients to have a cup of coffee after their procedures to hasten the Novocain’s waring off.

by Anonymousreply 142November 24, 2021 1:40 AM

London

I bought some "Oat Flour" at the supermarket yesterday - said "good for pancakes" - so I broke my once a week (on Sunday) American pancakes breakfast rule and tried it out this morning. They were FOUL. Went back to bed and woke up with the most horrid taste in my mouth. It felt like a hangover.

by Anonymousreply 143November 24, 2021 11:33 AM

And we're supposed to find that underwhelming r143?

by Anonymousreply 144November 24, 2021 11:51 AM

I don't know how I thought you'd react R144 - I just plunged right in, wrote the story and hoped for the best.

by Anonymousreply 145November 24, 2021 12:07 PM

But they did rise very well, I'll give them that - maybe because I also bought American Arm & Hammer stuff, in the little orange box. That's become hard to find recently in London.

by Anonymousreply 146November 24, 2021 12:10 PM

I just went to the grocery store at 6:am, I'm not up to Thanksgiving eve grocery shopping. There were only 3 customers but it will get crazy soon.

by Anonymousreply 147November 24, 2021 12:48 PM

Oh, I imagine those 3 customers provided plenty of crazy r147.

by Anonymousreply 148November 24, 2021 12:51 PM

R136, I hope you enjoy your Christmas with whoever you are spending it with. To be honest, for me, Christmas hasn't been the same since Mom went into assisted living (she died in 2016 after battling dementia). The best part was my brother and 2 sisters getting together at Mom's and opening presents. My brother and one sister died in 2017 so there's only my sister and Dad still alive. Dad lives 90 minutes away and has his own life. My remaining sister isn't really a holiday person.

I used to go to my Mom's the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and make the stuffing using my grandmother's recipe (making cornmeal cakes from scratch, Bell's Seasoning, onion, celery, butter, Pepperidge Farm white bread cubes). Then we would make three Sweet Potato Corn Pone pies.

R138, Cos doesn't like turkey and doesn't eat human food. He does love chicken so I will make sure he has his FF Savory Centers in chicken flavor for Christmas.

by Anonymousreply 149November 24, 2021 1:12 PM

[quote]Cos doesn't like turkey and doesn't eat human food.

An abomination in the eyes of the lord!

by Anonymousreply 150November 24, 2021 1:39 PM

Thanks, R149

Recently moved to Florida near my mom. My brother and cousin will be staying with her over Christmas, so the four of us will get together for dinner at her place on the 25th. Gifts are easy in one sense as books work just fine for them, but selecting the actual titles will take some effort over the next few days.

by Anonymousreply 151November 24, 2021 1:44 PM

Happy day! I went to a local Shop Rite and was able to pick up my "free" turkey breast. I will cook it for Christmas. Last year, I qualified for the "free" turkey but they didn't have any turkey breasts available. It's just me so I don't need a 20 lb. turkey.

I am officially on vacation as of 3 PM today due to an early release from work. I am free until Monday, December 6th. I do plan to clean out my garage while I'm off. I have paint cans from the previous owner and I've been here 23 years.

by Anonymousreply 152November 24, 2021 7:05 PM

I'm thinking of ordering donuts. Not sure if I will though.

by Anonymousreply 153November 24, 2021 7:36 PM

I got a covid test today. I had a low-grade fever and felt worn-out since Sunday. I'm vaccinated. I'm boostered. And I guess I'm paranoid.

by Anonymousreply 154November 24, 2021 7:42 PM

🍗I can't wait to eat turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy and stuffing and cranberry sauce and corn and sweet potatoes and green bean casserole and pumpkin pie with mountains of whipped cream.

🇺🇸 God Bless America & Happy Thanksgiving !

by Anonymousreply 155November 24, 2021 7:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 156November 24, 2021 7:56 PM

Nah r156, he's just delirious from overeating.

by Anonymousreply 157November 24, 2021 8:19 PM

I'm going to my brother's house tomorrow for Thanksgiving. I'm bringing an Apple Crumb Pie and a Milk chocolate turkey for the centerpiece that I bought at Whole Foods.

by Anonymousreply 158November 24, 2021 10:18 PM

I did not buy the Apple Crumb Pie at Whole Foods, only the Milk Chocolate Turkey.

by Anonymousreply 159November 24, 2021 10:23 PM

I suddenly have an explicable urge to make a corn casserole tomorrow. You know the one with Jiffy corn bread mix, can of regular corn, can of creamed corn, sour cream, eggs and melted butter. I don't know what's come over me but I'm seriously considering running out to get the ingredients. I did my holiday grocery shopping last Friday and I had no intentions of going anywhere near any stores this week let alone tonight. Decisions, decisions.

I just ran to Costco for some pickles. I thought I’d regret it, but it wasn’t so terrible. By that I mean no more terrible than usual.

by Anonymousreply 163November 24, 2021 11:07 PM

Your Costco must be closeby and not crowded, R163. My Costco is relatively close but it's usually crowded. I've got to need more than pickles to want to go there.

by Anonymousreply 164November 24, 2021 11:22 PM

These are Birthday Pickles for my cousins who I will see tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 165November 24, 2021 11:38 PM

Out running errands today nothing more crowded than usual, nor heavier traffic.

I just got back from the Liquor Lockker where I bought a bottle of Malbec. As I put it on the counter the guy waiting next asked me if 'that was for my Thanksgiving turkey'. For some reason I decided to be friendly and said "not quite, I'm a vegetarian so it's for roasted potatoes and vegetables" to which he replied "where i come from vegetarian is the word for lousy hunter".

He was buying two cans of Natural Light beer. I didn't ask him if it was for the Doritos.

by Anonymousreply 174November 25, 2021 8:01 PM

At Thanksgiving lunch today, my brother and his live-in girlfriend of almost 20 years announced that they’re getting married…next week…at my house.

Not whelmed, I’m not even sure I care. I’m just going to let them in, sit on the couch and watch it unfold.

by Anonymousreply 175November 26, 2021 1:07 AM

I slept all day, working tonight. To celebrate Thanksgiving I ate a meatball sandwich a few minutes ago. It was delicious.

by Anonymousreply 177November 26, 2021 1:17 AM

Nice get-together with my mom, and a couple who are family friends. Pasta with meatballs and sausage in tomato sauce, and a salad, with cake and ice cream for dessert.

I've mentioned before it was first holiday in 20 years I wasn't alone.

by Anonymousreply 186November 26, 2021 7:12 PM

I put curry powder in my egg salad; although, I once had a curried egg salad sandwich from a deli where they must have used at least a quarter cup of curry powder per egg!

Today, I encountered a flock of Muscovy ducks, and when I wasn't certain what they were at first, one wag of whom I enquired told me "Black flamingos!" They were hanging about garbage bins more like vultures.

by Anonymousreply 187November 26, 2021 7:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 190November 26, 2021 7:57 PM

I bought a pretty solid looking toaster oven on a Black Friday deal after my old one never quite recovered from a family guest heating up something that melted everywhere in it a few weeks ago. The new one seems like it's going to do the job and looks nice and shiny on my countertop.

by Anonymousreply 191November 26, 2021 8:21 PM

Now I want a new toaster oven, R191.

by Anonymousreply 192November 26, 2021 9:06 PM

I got it at Target and ordered it curbside pickup so I didn't have to deal with the inevitably whelming Black Friday crowds. I tapped something on my app to let them know I was there, popped my trunk when they came out with it and was on my way home 10 seconds later. It was painless.

by Anonymousreply 193November 26, 2021 10:44 PM

R191 Toaster ovens are a good, solid investment. They tend to overwhelm me, though (in a good way).

by Anonymousreply 196November 26, 2021 11:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 197November 26, 2021 11:24 PM

Aren't air fryers generally huge, R196? I'd have mixed feelings as well.

I adopted a middle aged 8 year old mongrel from a woman that complained he was peeing everywhere in her house after she had two other ones added. He was insanely jealous.

She was beside herself when I called her months later and told her he’d never pee in the house and could hold it for hours.

When he finally died at the ripe age of 19 I called her to let her know and thanked her for giving me such a wonderful dog. My husband took his death much harder than me but we have three little ones now.

by Anonymousreply 227November 28, 2021 3:16 AM

Dear r223

I agree that it is an odd fusion combination, but yeah, the menu is Italian + sushi. I don't think it's a related phenomenon, but as I understand it, in Italy they are leery of any other cuisine but their own, with the sole exception of sushi. Somewhat like America in the 1960s, with Chinese food being the exotic alternative for many people.

I bought a new washing machine, the last one lasted something like 8+ years. it was a cheapo too bought at less than €300. I regret the new purchase it's an LG, mid of the segment one. it doesn't fill all the way for the clothes to be laying in water, I don't know if this is a water saving feature or if it's broken and some how doesn't fill completly.

the shame is that the old one wasn't broken maybe only the heating element needed fixing but I though LG great brand name it most defenetly will be beter. WRONG

wish I waited till I could afford a Miele or somethign high end.

by Anonymousreply 255November 29, 2021 3:16 PM

R255 whelms.

by Anonymousreply 256November 29, 2021 5:00 PM

New machines do use less water. I guess water’s in short supply in some places.

by Anonymousreply 257November 29, 2021 5:54 PM

Not that it's only a short supply as much as being an ecological advance. I have a low water washer, where I was skeptical at first, but I have to admit that they do get clothes clean! One caveat is that you can't just set it and walk away; the machine throws the clothes around with wild abandon to determine the weight to get the appropriate amount of water, so you are left with a huge unbalanced heap, requiring one to hit the pause button to redistribute the clothes as soon as the water starts up.

by Anonymousreply 258November 29, 2021 6:07 PM

I don’t do that.

I hate replacing things that turn out worse than the thing you replaced (who doesn't?) I updated my kitchen ten years ago and bought a new dishwasher. The old one was fine but I thought a new one would be better. That piece of shit has never worked right. Things come out wet. Glasses look dirty. It's a BOSCH.

by Anonymousreply 260November 29, 2021 6:24 PM

European dishwashers don’t have heat dryers. You’re supposed to open the door and let the dishes air dry.

My car has started telling me to change the oil as it's at 5%. It's also making a slight rattling sound whilst idle which Google tells me could mean it really REALLY needs an oil change. Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow on my lunch break - please wish me luck that it's nothing more whelming than that.

by Anonymousreply 318December 1, 2021 2:47 AM

R318-You must have a newish car for it to be able to tell you what percentage your oil is at.

by Anonymousreply 319December 1, 2021 3:52 AM

The chip on my debit card is malfunctioning constantly. I need to replace it. I think I can just do that at the bank, but does it take a long time?

by Anonymousreply 320December 1, 2021 3:54 AM

It's only 11:01 pm and I'm already hungry for my breakfast tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 321December 1, 2021 4:01 AM

R319 yes it's a 2018 and it has a few cool little bells and whistles like that. It's very useful. It also tells me my tire pressure. But it's had a lot of issues for being so new and not driven much (my commute is not very far). So I'm underwhelmed by it.

by Anonymousreply 322December 1, 2021 5:58 AM

Assuming you have online banking r320, just log in to your account and you should be able to request a replacement. It will take about a week to arrive. Once you activate the new one, the old one becomes obsolete.

by Anonymousreply 323December 1, 2021 9:02 AM

R322- What kind of car is it? I have a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek and one of the power window switches on the drivers door broke and fell off. The dealer had to replace the entire pod ( at no cost) but my warranty ends on December 31 , after that on my own except for the powertrain warranty is still good for two more years. I hope I have no more issues with the car.

by Anonymousreply 324December 1, 2021 2:17 PM

I might need new brakes. Not sure.

by Anonymousreply 325December 1, 2021 2:20 PM

You let the oil get down to 5%! I had my first car servicing eight months after I bought it (new) when I hit roughly 1,500 miles (only driven locally a few miles a day). I was at 35% feeling I was pushing things. I get an email report monthly of the latest computer findings - tires are averaging 34psi, which means refills in near future, but not immediately I suppose.

Let us know how you're doing after the oil change, and please don't let it get nearly that low again!

by Anonymousreply 326December 1, 2021 2:32 PM

R320: I had a spell where my debit card started not working at quite a few businesses. The card was old and scuffed up, so I figured it was shot and ordered a replacement. It made no difference, the card still would not work in the very same businesses where the old one had problems. The problem was the interface between the card and the reading devices. Mine was a Mastercard debit card, in the US, and I've been told in various places that that kind of card is just not scannable magnetically, and they have to input the numbers into their system manually. It's not a common problem, but noticeable. Maybe you're having the same problem...(??).

Ironically, after I ordered the shampoo I realized that I already had one in the house and thus the order was a mistake, so if they just give me a refund it will have worked out rather well for me.

I bought a new fancy pantsy electric cordless vacuum cleaner half price in the Black Friday Amazon sale.

It's overwhelming in that it pulls you along, rather than you pushing it around. It does its job but I feel it just skims over the top of the carpet. I DON'T walk into this room later on and think 'WHOA! I vacuumed this room earlier. Feels so good 'n' fresh." So by and large i'd say underwhelming and will keep my old machines that are heavy and bulky but do a better job.

So now I have three vacuum cleaners.

I didn't though, is the thing - it just said that out of the blue without any prior warning! I have a very short commute (I actually work from home part time) and don't often take long drives; the car is very low mileage, and its last oil change was in September 2021.

I asked them to take a look at it when I took it in for the oil change today, because the whole thing struck me as odd (the mechanic agreed) and it turns out there's a valve leak that's making it leak oil. Very simple quick fix and it's covered by the car's extended warranty, so bullet dodged and all is well, but thank you for worrying about me and my car (not being sarcastic).

I had some paintings/portraits I inherited. They were quite good paintings but I don't really like portraits of people I don't know all over my house, it's overwhelming, quite frankly., so I took them to auction.

The auction house woman was very snitty about two of them by a particular artist but agreed to try to sell them for me. The night before the auction she frantically emailed me to ask if she could lower the reserve price to £500 on one of them "to ensure we sell it"...that particular painting sold for £4,400. They other one by the same artist did almost as well. In fact she underestimated all of them.

It was fun and overwhelming watching the auction online....it was like "OMG - here we go...one of mine...keep going...keep going".

by Anonymousreply 358December 2, 2021 2:24 PM

I cleaned out my garage today. Well, sort of. I couldn’t get the lids off all the paint cans. I need to put cat litter in them to soak up the oil. Then I throw them out with the regular trash. Guess I’ll have to find an alternative so I can dispose of them properly.

I did vacuum the garage with my shop vac. No more leaves and most of the cobwebs are gone. I guess the spiders will be mad at me.

by Anonymousreply 359December 2, 2021 9:17 PM

Oil paint is LITERALLY hazardous waste. Dispose of properly.

by Anonymousreply 360December 2, 2021 9:20 PM

There are all the "Yassified" pictures as well as people changing their profile names to things like "Yassify (name)", and making poems and little haikus using "Yassification" and other made-up similar words.

I blocked the Yassify Bot (which isn't even a bot, it's some random woman with a paid FaceTune subscription) but people have memed a lot of the images so they will be with us for ages, unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 382December 4, 2021 8:51 PM

I am slightly whelmed that we may need a new thread before Christmas!

by Anonymousreply 383December 4, 2021 9:00 PM

Calm down r383. I'm sure it will be a perfectly quiet, well-behaved thread.

by Anonymousreply 384December 4, 2021 9:06 PM

[quote]Went to the Botanical Gardens today with my mother and our visiting cousin - lots of nice snaps of orchids! Wish I could post some here.

why don't you?

by Anonymousreply 385December 4, 2021 9:10 PM

I'm not eating dinner tonight. On Wednesdays and Saturdays I don't eat dinner. I do the intermittent fasting. When I eat breakfast tomorrow it will be 21 + hours since I've eaten.

by Anonymousreply 386December 4, 2021 9:21 PM

I bought a microphone so I can sound better on my Zoom stuff. I ordered it 4 days ago from Amazon, still not shipped.

by Anonymousreply 387December 4, 2021 9:29 PM

I want a poinsettia but they always die on me.

by Anonymousreply 388December 4, 2021 9:36 PM

I'm completely whelmed at the moment - I went for my usual Saturday nuggets and apple pie at McDonalds and they gave me an apple fritter instead! I had no idea they had fritters. It was twice as big as a pie and it was delicious! Now I'm going to have that every week, if it's a new thing (or have I just never known about it?).

by Anonymousreply 389December 4, 2021 9:43 PM

I had a good nap but I overslept. Hopefully I can sleep tonight.

by Anonymousreply 390December 4, 2021 9:45 PM

R389, I like McDonald's, too. However, that fritter has 510 calories; the apple pie has 248 calories.

by Anonymousreply 391December 4, 2021 9:47 PM

R391 - now, why'd you go tell me that!? Now I'll have to go back to the pie. But at least I'm no longer whelmed.

by Anonymousreply 392December 4, 2021 9:55 PM

The delivery people lately have more often than not taken to setting the boxes directly in front of the storm door. Since it opens outward, I have to push whatever has been delivered away with the glass door, go outside and retrieve it, then come back in, which takes extra time and effort than if they'd just set it off to the side a little (where it is also obscured from the street, making the delivery safer).

Do they not see that the door opens outward, like every storm door here? (they are common).

by Anonymousreply 393December 4, 2021 10:34 PM

I'm watching "Desk Set",

a Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy movie from 1957

that almost never fails to cheer me

by Anonymousreply 394December 4, 2021 10:48 PM

R394, Wonderful isn’t it?

by Anonymousreply 395December 4, 2021 10:51 PM

someone's WW-ing all the posts.

by Anonymousreply 396December 4, 2021 10:54 PM

[quote] Do they not see that the door opens outward, like every storm door here? (they are common).

R393, they're probably just focused on making all their deliveries. I'd cut them a little slack.

by Anonymousreply 397December 4, 2021 10:59 PM

I just had to do the same with a package. In my case, the storm door opens to a front porch. Most delivery people have the thoughtfulness to leave packages on the porch.

by Anonymousreply 398December 4, 2021 11:11 PM

storm doors and porches!! - it's all so American it's overwhelming - do you keep a rocking chair out there in the summer?

by Anonymousreply 399December 4, 2021 11:14 PM

R396 may be whelmed...

Deep breaths, deep breaths

by Anonymousreply 400December 4, 2021 11:35 PM

I just got up in the middle of the night and ate a piece of salted caramel dark chocolate. It was really good.

by Anonymousreply 401December 5, 2021 8:38 AM

Man, all I did when I got up in the middle of the night was pee.

by Anonymousreply 402December 5, 2021 8:42 AM

I also had salted caramel dark chocolate yesterday and it was really good. I didn't think I'd like salt on caramel, but in the right ratio it's really nice.

by Anonymousreply 403December 5, 2021 8:57 AM

the Christmas coffee I bought is not as spectacular is I thought. is better than store bought though

by Anonymousreply 404December 5, 2021 3:47 PM

I’m trying to drink lots of water like the health experts tell us. I don’t like water and it doesn’t feel natural, but giving it a go.

by Anonymousreply 405December 5, 2021 4:05 PM

R405 it's easier if you have two big glasses of water in the morning (I down two 22 oz glasses back to back; I take the first one before anything and then drink the second one while taking my supplements and a few medications).

Then have another 22 oz glass in the afternoon, and one more in the early evening. Couple that with whatever else you typically drink during the day and you'll be well hydrated.

by Anonymousreply 406December 5, 2021 4:18 PM

You sort of have to plan the water drinking around being at home otherwise you’re running to public bathrooms as you go about your day.

by Anonymousreply 407December 5, 2021 4:24 PM

That's why I think it's better to drink big glasses a few times a day than it is to sip water all day like I see some people do. Concentrates the restroom time better.

Turkey salad is a bad idea.

by Anonymousreply 410December 5, 2021 6:41 PM

I made some turkey salad yesterday, R410, and thought it was fine. Once you mix in everything else, I find it indistinguishable from chicken salad.

by Anonymousreply 411December 5, 2021 7:46 PM

When I finally ate breakfast this morning it was a bit over 22 hours since I had eaten. It's supposed to be good for your telomeres.

by Anonymousreply 412December 5, 2021 8:03 PM

What is this salted caramel you guys are talking about? Can someone post a link or tell me what brand it is? TIA.

by Anonymousreply 413December 5, 2021 8:08 PM

Salted caramel is everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 414December 5, 2021 8:18 PM

R414, I don't see salted caramel in my burg. I'm looking for some salted caramels that posters can recommend.

R345 Is it true that Moose are called Elk in Europe?

by Anonymousreply 417December 5, 2021 9:39 PM

Oh, boy, R417. I guess this is a safe thread for you to be posting stuff like ranch-type dressing in a convenient squeeze bottle.

by Anonymousreply 418December 5, 2021 9:52 PM

I suppose I'm the only American out of 330 million who dislikes Ranch?

by Anonymousreply 419December 5, 2021 9:55 PM

Here's a second r419!

by Anonymousreply 420December 5, 2021 10:30 PM

It's not ranch, though, it's "Secret Sauce" and it's good. I'd go into more about how good it is but I don't want to whelm anyone.

by Anonymousreply 421December 6, 2021 3:57 AM

It’s secret sauce whose main ingredient is RANCH

by Anonymousreply 422December 6, 2021 6:24 AM

Ranch dressing, in whatever disguise, is a divisive topic on DL. However, I'll just pretend RANCH has never been mentioned on this mellow thread.

by Anonymousreply 423December 6, 2021 7:01 AM

RANCH!

by Anonymousreply 424December 6, 2021 7:19 AM

I hate bbq sauce. I hope this isn't divisive or whelming.

by Anonymousreply 425December 6, 2021 9:35 AM

by Anonymousreply 426December 6, 2021 12:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 427December 6, 2021 12:14 PM

R367 Ew. I used to unload shipping containers. I wouldn't be able to sleep with them unwashed in the house.

by Anonymousreply 428December 6, 2021 12:39 PM

I'm sitting at my computer right now while my ginger tea steeps I have a bit over 7 minutes left before I can commence with drinking my ginger tea.

by Anonymousreply 429December 6, 2021 1:45 PM

Speaking of Weck jars, why is preserving food in jars called “canning?”

In contrast, Coca-Cola is put into cans at a bottling plant.

It’s all so confusing.

by Anonymousreply 430December 6, 2021 5:38 PM

I have no idea how my post wound up signed by 1stDibs. I’m not 1stDibs. Muriel!!

by Anonymousreply 431December 6, 2021 5:41 PM

I think you should probably lie down for a bit r430.

by Anonymousreply 432December 6, 2021 5:41 PM

I should have dusted the mantle before putting up the decorations.

by Anonymousreply 433December 6, 2021 7:44 PM

[quote] Speaking of Weck jars, why is preserving food in jars called “canning?”

I think, in the old days, they used metal cans. The glass jars still do have the metal lid to seal things.

by Anonymousreply 434December 6, 2021 8:17 PM

You can dust the mantle in Jan r433 after the decorations go away!

by Anonymousreply 435December 6, 2021 8:21 PM

Or just imagine the dust is snow!

by Anonymousreply 436December 6, 2021 8:45 PM

I'm going to underwhelm the dl crowd when I tell them what kind of car I drive-

2017 Toyota Camry LE

by Anonymousreply 438December 7, 2021 3:33 AM

I forget to mention that when I bought the car used at a Toyota dealer I had them put on body side moldings and door edge guards.

by Anonymousreply 439December 7, 2021 3:43 AM

R439, did you also get some after-market seat covers? I'll admit to paying extra for the floor mats that you can spill a drink on.

by Anonymousreply 440December 7, 2021 3:50 AM

R440- No. But often in the warmer months after I'd taken my daily walk I got right into the car to do some errands. I did not want to sweat onto the seats so I would drape a towel over the driver's seat.

by Anonymousreply 441December 7, 2021 4:09 AM

My sugar cookies aren’t crisp on the edges. Also I colored the royal icing with Easter colors, so the Christmas collection is pastel: Pink Santa’s, lime green wreaths, daisy yellow bells and baby blue stars.

by Anonymousreply 442December 7, 2021 4:15 AM

R442- Some of your cookies have names that sound like the marshmallows in Lucky Charms.

by Anonymousreply 443December 7, 2021 4:20 AM

R443) sadly though, not magically delicious.

by Anonymousreply 444December 7, 2021 4:27 AM

I bought a premade gingerbread house from Target, and then realized it only came with white frosting. So I just ordered a bunch of differently-colored frosting, some colored chocolate candy bits, and colored sprinkles from Wal-Mart, to be delivered tomorrow. I have no idea what I'll do with the house once it's finished. Take some photos and then throw it out after the holidays, I guess.

And I will have all the leftover frosting and decoration stuff that I have to find a place for.

by Anonymousreply 445December 7, 2021 4:32 AM

[quote] Also I colored the royal icing with Easter colors, so the Christmas collection is pastel: Pink Santa’s, lime green wreaths, daisy yellow bells and baby blue stars.

I don't know about these pastel colors on Christmas cookies. Christmas is a time for saturated colors like red and green.

by Anonymousreply 446December 7, 2021 4:55 AM

I was off from work from last Wednesday afternoon until yesterday. Eleven days of no work. It was wonderful but probably a bit too long. I went into the office yesterday as one of my 2 required days per week. I usually go in Wednesdays and Thursdays. Working from home today.

Cos is sleeping in the sun in is round shag-rug bed. Just like a human, he has one leg hanging outside of the bed so he doesn't get too warm.

by Anonymousreply 460December 7, 2021 5:08 PM

I went on the Costco website and saw the Sanders salted caramels. They come in dark or milk chocolate. However, it's a 2-pack, 36 ounces each (1.02 KG). I don't need that much candy in my apartment.

by Anonymousreply 461December 7, 2021 6:10 PM

R461- I bought my one big jar of Sanders Sea Salt Milk Chocolate Caramels at the store, not online.

by Anonymousreply 462December 7, 2021 6:13 PM

Thanks, R462. What quantity did you have to buy?

by Anonymousreply 463December 7, 2021 6:22 PM

R463- It's a 36 ounce jar ( 2 pounds and 4 ounces).

by Anonymousreply 464December 7, 2021 6:26 PM

Thanks, R464. I put that on my Costco list. That's still a lot, but at least not a 2-pack.

by Anonymousreply 465December 7, 2021 6:29 PM

R465- You can keep them in the freezer and defrost a few at a time. They keep their freshness a long time in the freezer.

by Anonymousreply 466December 7, 2021 6:41 PM

R466, good to know. I don't have a lot of will power sometimes ...

by Anonymousreply 467December 7, 2021 6:44 PM

You can probably eat them frozen.

by Anonymousreply 468December 7, 2021 6:46 PM

R468- Certain things you can eat frozen. I once bought seven layer cake at a bakery ( YUMMY) and put it in the freezer to save for a rainy day. I sliced a piece and ate it frozen. It was good even frozen. You can't do that with a slice of apple pie, for instance. That is as hard as a rock when it's frozen. Not good. Only when a COCK is as hard as a rock is it a good thing.

by Anonymousreply 469December 7, 2021 6:51 PM

I ordered ahead for the holidays and got too much frozen food - my freezer is full. Now I have to eat two pizzas and a lasagna before the end of the week since they were put in the refrigerator.

by Anonymousreply 479December 8, 2021 6:43 AM

Kittenzilla has been using a balcony planter as a litter box. I was wondering why his inside ones were poop shy.

by Anonymousreply 480December 9, 2021 9:49 PM

Yikes, R480!

Cos doesn't always like to squat to pee so I've had to buy high-sided litter boxes. Unfortunately, he sometimes pees over the back of them so I put a towel under the litter box.

by Anonymousreply 481December 9, 2021 10:11 PM

I was a bit whelmed that a neighbour may have seen him pooping out there, but he has a huge ass so probably just looks like he is sitting in the planter...as one does. It's my planter and my balcony so still qualifies as underwhelming...

by Anonymousreply 484December 10, 2021 1:08 AM

r484 they're good, but they have that "deep discount" promotion running year round.

by Anonymousreply 485December 10, 2021 1:13 AM

My mom (RIP) was a pretty good painter (oils). For years, I had one of her landscapes hanging on my wall, without a frame, waiting for the right time to frame it. My town has crappy frame shops, but I decided to just frame it with whatever was available. It cost way less than I was prepared to pay and it looks great. (Gold-painted wood.)

I don't care for this version of Tide; it leaves a scent that's different and perhaps stronger than regular formula.

Plus, it leaves a film even though I use the bare minimum. I thought it might be fabric softener in the dryer leftover from another launderer in the building, but it is this Tide.

Oh, and it's "Ultra Oxi". Total bullshit. Thank god it's the smaller bottle.

by Anonymousreply 489December 10, 2021 5:40 AM

I like that your battery died at home r487. So peaceful!

by Anonymousreply 490December 10, 2021 7:45 AM

It's weird how "oxi" cleansers and existing formulas with that added suddenly became a thing a decade or so ago when it's just hydrogen peroxide.

My ears are ALWAYS itching. Why dl why?

by Anonymousreply 502December 10, 2021 5:11 PM

I had itchy ears for years every time I ate a banana. Finally made the correlation - allergy! You likely have an allergy or sensitivity to something you are ingesting. Could even be rhinitis or dust allergy. Try an antihisthamine? You may have to take it for several days in a row.

R506- To food or dust or something else?

by Anonymousreply 507December 10, 2021 7:27 PM

R502, they only thing I know for sure that I'm allergic to is amoxicillin. I also had a bad season (pollen?) allergy in *winter*, of all seasons, in Washington DC.

I also get red eyes, out of nowhere (in addition to itchy ears). My doctor said it's allergies. I think it's seasonal (pollen).

by Anonymousreply 508December 10, 2021 7:34 PM

I put way too much "Mood" essential oil blend in my oil diffuser and now it's making my eyes water and my entire house reek of peppermint. For some reason I thought it was an orange-based scent but realized otherwise after I'd put a bunch in the diffuser.

I suppose I shall have to throw it out and use something else.

I've done some research and one shouldn't steep a tea bag longer than five minutes.

I really didn't need to add this to the list of all the things that I have to think about. It's never been a problem in the past for me. I'm not sure how to think about it.

by Anonymousreply 513December 11, 2021 3:02 AM

That's the soonest I'd squeeze the bags with fingers.

I usually leave them in the pot, though. Second cup is stronger, so you add cream and booze.

by Anonymousreply 514December 11, 2021 4:25 AM

Each type of tea (white, green, oolong, black and pu-erh) has specific water temperatures and seeping times.

by Anonymousreply 515December 11, 2021 5:59 AM

I would be in a lot of trouble if I had a dust allergy, if you catch my drift.

by Anonymousreply 516December 11, 2021 6:17 AM

R515 Another level of complexity. Have I been drinking bitter tea all this time without knowing? What are the ramifications?

by Anonymousreply 517December 11, 2021 1:05 PM

Yesterday, I braved a trip to Trader Joe's, which as a nervous driver I usually dread. Both the roads themselves, and the parking lot were just fine. The supermarkets here do not sell much in the way of coffee creamer, as was explained by a manager that it's a scarcity of cardboard to make cartons that's the issue. There was plenty of Half & Half in quart cartons there, as well as TJ toilet paper (though not a lot) on the shelf.

R513 *note to self* do not allow yourself to be tea-bagged for more than 5 minutes at a time. Got it! Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 519December 11, 2021 1:46 PM

R513- I'm in TROUBLE ( as Tootie used to say). I usually let my ginger tea steep for 21 minutes until my tea has cooled sufficiently to drink.

by Anonymousreply 520December 11, 2021 1:53 PM

Of course you are waiting R505. I just ate a gummie with delta 9 and CBN. I think my wait will be shorter.

Most CBD sold OTC has little to no CBD, BTW.

I don't need a saucier so I'm looking for the conical shape I grew up with and not one of them looks right. Windsor pans yield twee bullshit sizes. This is not supposed to be expensive/snooty; it's a useful everyday item.

by Anonymousreply 523December 11, 2021 7:07 PM

It dawns on me with a shudder—the Holiday Edition will not see Christmas.

by Anonymousreply 524December 11, 2021 7:13 PM

I'm watching "Rosemary's Baby"

I mean the movie, of course, and not the actually baby (I don't babysit for anyone and certainly not for that little monster)

I like it for the 1967-1968 time capsule quality of it all - it's hard to believe it even whelmed back in the day

And it occurs to me that Ruth Gordon really stole this movie with her supporting role

by Anonymousreply 525December 11, 2021 7:15 PM

[quote]I’m not sure I do.

Let's just say I can be a little lax about dusting, R522.

My dog barks at the wind noises when the wind blows especially hard

It can be whelming for him - not so much for me (I have earplugs)

I'm eating an apple fritter. And a faux spicy chicken sandwich.

My sympathies!

The one time I tried Jollibee, ordered their palabok, but got Filipino spaghetti instead.

[quote]Filipino spaghetti

Whelmed.

by Anonymousreply 534December 12, 2021 1:41 PM

Not really, it was pretty much like regular spaghetti but sweeter, and with hot dog pieces in addition to the pasta.

by Anonymousreply 535December 12, 2021 6:18 PM

HOT DOG Pieces. In spaghetti?

Verklemt.

by Anonymousreply 536December 12, 2021 6:27 PM

I bought a new cookie sheet.

by Anonymousreply 539December 12, 2021 7:35 PM

Will you be baking holiday cookies on it, R539?

by Anonymousreply 540December 12, 2021 7:45 PM

R539 What was wrong with the old one?

by Anonymousreply 541December 12, 2021 7:47 PM

I assumed the cookie sheet was for frozen French fries?

by Anonymousreply 542December 12, 2021 7:48 PM

I had McDonalds and my stomach hurts now. I might have gas.

by Anonymousreply 543December 12, 2021 8:03 PM

Yes r540 I am making xmas cookies. Your mind powers are impressive Kreskin! R541 one of the old ones irritates me because it is too well seasoned. Sometimes you want a fresh start.

by Anonymousreply 544December 12, 2021 9:11 PM

Wise move, R544. Nobody wants seasoned Christmas cookies.

by Anonymousreply 545December 13, 2021 12:18 AM

My right eye had been irritated all day. It feels like I have sand under my eyelid and light pressure from behind my eyeball.

I'm starting to feel whelmed as I've had one minor thing after another lately. First an infection and was on heavy duty anti-biotics which caused me to develop thrush which took WEEKS to go away, even with meds. That finally cleared up, and now this.

by Anonymousreply 546December 13, 2021 1:40 AM

I had the same symptoms about 2 yrs ago. Turned out it was iritis which caused pressure buildup hence pain and pressure above eye. If you can, get into an eye dr. For an exam. You may need short term steroid drops or just lube drops.

by Anonymousreply 547December 13, 2021 2:35 AM

Thanks, R547. If it's not better by tomorrow I'll get it checked out.

by Anonymousreply 548December 13, 2021 4:43 AM

I'm jonesing for Mike&Ike but I am an adult and don't have to wade through panhandlers for a fix....

by Anonymousreply 549December 13, 2021 6:10 AM

Yes, it was just gas. Thanks for all your concern, guys - I COULD HAVE DIED!

by Anonymousreply 550December 13, 2021 4:45 PM

On a quieter note than using all caps (screaming)...

The term earworm is usually associated with music; however, in this case I can't get the phrase "pork choppy chops" - from a TV ad by a local fast food chain - out of my head.

by Anonymousreply 551December 13, 2021 5:45 PM

I empathize, R551. I can remember TV jingles from when I was a kid, even more so than many pop song lyrics. I suppose it’s a mark of how effective they are.

‘You’ll wonder where the yellow went …’

Watched the movie "Used People" from 1992* *Spoiler Alert if you have been planning to watch since 1992

Set in 1960s Queens, NY with an all star cast - Shirley MacLaine, Marcello Mastroianni, Kathy Bates, Marcia Gay Harden, Jessica Tandy, Doris Roberts and Joe Pantoliano

It looked as if were going to be the NY version of "Steel Magnolias" or "Terms of Endearment"...

But bupkis - this wouldn't even have made a good episode of "The Nanny"

Shirley MacLaine comes across as a nasty cunt (who's acting? she got paid for this?)

Kathy Bates can't hold onto her Queens accent; ; and the other characters are just two-dimensional and mostly annoying

by Anonymousreply 560December 14, 2021 1:10 PM

I ordered a Bloody Mary with lunch today. Thought it seemed a bit weak, but okay... a few minutes later the waitress plopped another on the table saying, "That looked too watery, so here's a fresh one."

The Fred Flintstone portion of chicken-and-waffles I did find a bit whelming.

by Anonymousreply 561December 14, 2021 6:50 PM

I just finished lunch and topped it off with some tic tacs. I need something sweet after lunch without all of the calories and tic tacs fit the bill- and I won't finish the whole container of them unlike Certs.

by Anonymousreply 562December 14, 2021 7:04 PM

R561, nice that she gave you a fresh Bloody Mary.

I was at an Irish bar once and I ordered a Negroni (I know, I know). I just wanted to try one. The bartender didn't even know how to make it. I Googled a recipe and he (bartender) made me a Negroni. I'm not even sure what it was supposed to taste like, but I didn't like it that much. (I do like Campari and gin, so it wasn't that I disliked the basic elements.)

Bartender asked me: "How is it?" I said, "Good." I think he could tell, by the look on my face, that it wasn't that great. When I got my bar tab, Negroni was not on it.

by Anonymousreply 563December 14, 2021 7:13 PM

I am monitoring my email and eating xmas bon bons. It is definitely not whelming to muti task like this.

by Anonymousreply 564December 14, 2021 7:28 PM

I haven't received any Christmas cards in the mail. Usually I would have gotten a few by now, with Christmas being less than two weeks away. I don't feel whelmed about it yet, though.

by Anonymousreply 565December 14, 2021 8:36 PM

R565- It's time for you to realize you're just FLOTSAM and JETSAM.

It's time for you to join - The Friends Of The Friendless.

Thanx.

Barbeque Chicken pizza for dinner.

I was craving lime Tostitos. I had some homemade salsa at home. But I was in a health food store (no Tostitos). I tried these Late July brand jalapeño lime tortilla chips. Really good. Reminds me, in a good way, of the old school taco-flavored Doritos. I read the ingredients and was surprised to find they're vegan. Tastes cheesy, somehow.

Little more pricey than Tostitos in that it's about the same price and you get half as much (by weight). However, I don't need to eat a whole bag of Tostitos and I'm capable of that.

R563 A Negroni is three ingredients in equal proportions. Your barmaid shouldn't whelm at this.

by Anonymousreply 573December 15, 2021 4:59 AM

I don't like negronis and I am totally over aperol spritzes.

by Anonymousreply 574December 15, 2021 5:34 AM

Just started watching Goliath. I wonder if it's any good? Never heard of it. There are 4 seasons.

by Anonymousreply 575December 15, 2021 5:39 AM

I would like to have a Cavachon - a hybrid King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise - as my next puppy.

But I don't find any reputable breeders in my state.

There are some puppy mill websites that make it look as though they are in my state - but they're really just importing from puppy mills in other states when you look closely at them.

This process could whelm, so I will stop for now.

by Anonymousreply 576December 15, 2021 5:50 AM

The bakery in my hometown used to make them when I was a child.

by Anonymousreply 579December 15, 2021 6:03 AM

Thank you, R575

I like the name Cavachon better than the other name used for them - Bichalier.

Bichalier sounds like a DL insult.

All of my dogs so far have been rescue dogs.

I have a Pitt Bull mix now. He's lovable but a lot of work. He's almost 10 - and I'm thinking about that day when he won't be around any more.

He's also gentle and would adapt well to another dog I expect.

I've found getting another dog has been the best coping technique in the past.

The fact that this Holiday edition didn't make it to Christmas would seem to indicate that many people long to be underwhelmed in these precarious times.

by Anonymousreply 581December 15, 2021 6:57 AM

Oh my! It's a bit whelming to have two underwhelming threads going simultaneously.

by Anonymousreply 582December 15, 2021 7:08 AM

I think it's important that we max out this thread, even if the new one already has posts. I trust that I can count on everyone's cooperation in this. To leave it incomplete would be terribly whelming.
