Many states still have such laws on the books, they are left over from the Red Scare. However, most places refuse to enforce them because they know it is unconstitutional and they don't want to waste the money.

Ridiculous, it's only a song...a symbol like the flag. Aren't there more important things happening at the moment?

by Anonymousreply 2September 21, 2021 4:10 AM

Wow! This was decided long long ago. Unconstitutional. Period

We are now in an era where the Reactionary Right will continually attempt to erode our rights. They do things like pass the new anti-choice law in Texas. Now the Supreme Court are reviewing Roe v Wade in December. Then the guy who wrote the Texas bill wants them to look at the Marriage Equality case.

They will just keep incrementally making cases like this. "Gee, wonder what would happen if we tried to enforce this McCarthy-Era law by arresting two high schoolers?"🤔

Now it doesn't even matter how The System gets "punished"; the damage and humiliation is already done. They got what they wanted; a show of their power via the police state.

R4 "Now the Supreme Court are reviewing Roe v Wade in December. Then the guy who wrote the Texas bill wants them to look at the Marriage Equality case."

Yep. Not that you would know when looking at Datalounge. Can't find a single thread about it. Datalounge, as usual, has its priorities driven by more 'important' issues like complaining about younger generations, raging at transgender people, dismissing racism controversies, and criticizing celebrities for aging and/or gaining weight.

R5, There are currently at least 2 threads on that. I'll link to one here.

Searching for DL threads ain't easy because the titles are usually worded sarcastically or with inside terms/jokes. Gotta use google and several different descriptors if you want to possibly check on DL threads.

But, also, YOU are allowed to start threads. Go start one if you think a topic is important. If it's already been posted, another commenter will let you know. No big whoop.

It's vitally important to be free not to have a vaccine, but you're not free to sit for the national anthem.

Get your values sorted out, America. And stop saying "patriotic" all the time until even Canada wants to smack you.

That's some North Korean shit.
