What's so sad about tweets like the one at R32 from her dad: "She touched the world" is the fact she obviously didn't - not in life, anyway. Which is the case for the vast, vast majority of 22 year olds. And now she will never get the chance to do so. All those possibilities and future timelines snuffed out with her. Yes, it's the same when anyone dies. It's always sad.

Decomposition was a problem in the Caylie Anthony case (Casey the mother). I think the jurors felt like "what was the cause of death?" Doctor G (expert witness) wasn't helpful, IMO, during the Casey Anthony trial.
Well, she's so far decayed now that they couldn't possibly determine if it was manual strangulation, choking with rope or a sheet, blunt force trauma, or a GSW.
I've watched an autopsy being done of a man who died by suicide, hanging. The examiner showed me the hyoid bone and the area. You can detect a strangulation by the bones.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 19, 2021 10:46 PM |
It takes longer than a month for a body to decay, R53. There’s plenty left. And if she was buried, that actually helps preserve the corpse. I predict that they will have no problem determining the cause of death.

Who are all the other pretty, young white blondes whose disappearance and murder became a news hit?
The reason poor Gabby's story made the news in such a way is because what happened to her was a mystery and her boyfriend and probable murderer came back and then disappeared. There is a "true crime" aspect to this story, especially with all the state line crossings and their weird road trip, not to mention the horrific policy body cam video where she's crying with fear.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | September 19, 2021 11:05 PM |

Um, the boyfriend called the police because she was attacking him. They noted scratches all over his arms and HE declined to press charges and was put up overnight at a domestic violence shelter.

Can we stop bitching that the news only covers crimes against pretty blonde women? We KNOW.
And in the true crime subreddits and true crime television, there has been a very obvious effort to correct this. We are working on it. There has been more attention paid to women and girls of color all over the place. The disappearance of Asha Degree is a perennial favorite discussion.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | September 19, 2021 11:22 PM |
Maybe I’m just older and more disconnected, but the Natalie Holloway murder coverage was much more intense, involving international intrigue and whatnot. Plus, it dragged on forever.

by Anonymous | reply 75 | September 19, 2021 11:25 PM |
Natalee Holloway disappeared 16 years ago, r67, so the pretty blonde white girl phenomenon is hardly that common. Again, the reason the Holloway case got so much attention was because of the "mystery" aspect to it.
Around 2000 women are killed by men every year in the US and no doubt some of them are pretty young blonde women, yet they don't get any media coverage. The only reason we hear maybe once a decade about the disappearance and murder of a young pretty blonde white woman is because she's missing in strange circumstances and there is a "mystery" element to the case.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | September 19, 2021 11:33 PM |
Well, she's so far decayed now that they couldn't possibly determine if it was manual strangulation, choking with rope or a sheet, blunt force trauma, or a GSW.
When I made this comment, I meant by visual inspection of the remains. Chances are there wasn't an actual autopsy by the time of the news conference and she was IDed by clothing, jewelry, or items on her remains.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | September 19, 2021 11:39 PM |
You're talking shit, r70. Laundrie did not call the police. A passer by who saw them having a fight called the police. Laundrie didn't decline to press charges - there were no charges to be pressed.
Are you sure he was put up overnight in a domestic violence shelter? Because that's the first I've heard of that.
Since Laundrie on the good side of the police and has no hesitation in calling them, why did he disappear and why hasn't he come forth to explain to the police what happened?
She was crying because she was distraught. And now she's been murdered by that piece of shit that you support.

Asha Degree was a sweet looking little Black girl who disappeared from her home in NC around or over 20 years ago. She was seen walking in the pouring rain on a road near her home at 4am on a school day. This was uncharacteristic of her as she was a studious, well-behaved young lady.
The case has never been solved. It’s very sad.

Yes, it has a “stay tuned….situation unfolding…more coming up tomorrow” aspect to it.
It’s not like she was murdered in her home town by her no-good baby daddy, who was father to one of her 3 children who lived with their grandmother in a depressed town in the Ozarks.
This case has sunshine, smiling faces, an on-the-road-again vibe. Yeah, she’s pretty. She has all of her teeth and they’re white & straight and visible in every photo. She wasn’t 190 lbs or wearing frizzled, outdated bangs and a muffin top. She wasn’t fucking her husband’s best friend. Everything was clean, manicured and looked like an SUV commercial, overlooking picturesque southwest Americana. [italic] And there’s stunning video to being released sometime tomorrow [/italic] according to police.
And stunning it was. The happy, tidy young people on a lark devolved into the pretty girl all weepy & jittery, admitting to domestic violence because of her OCD.
Ohhh God, they’ve all got something, don’t they, to explain their bad behavior and to get themselves prescriptions for meth and a benzo, dont they? They’re all a mess on their meds including their anti depressant and their weed and their Vicodin
Oh. And she’s disappeared. And he’s came home, said nothing about her then went out & hasn’t come back.
Come on. That’s interesting.

I wasn't criticizing her father, R63. He's shocked and grieving, he and the rest of this poor girl's family only have my sympathy. My comment was simply regarding the sadness of someone dying so young. She was so unhappy in that video, and now we all know - as does her family - that there will be no redemption, no chance to experience a happy, loving relationship, motherhood, growing older and living her life. It's very sad. That's all.

R100, Laundrie was put up in a hotel so they would stay apart for the night, not because he was a victim of domestic violence. In the words of the police officer:
"I want you guys to stay away from each other for both of you guys’ sanity. From what you told me and what he told me, you guys have a lot of little things that are building up, building up that finally the little string you guys were tight-walking on broke."
If only the police officer didn't have such stereotypes about young pretty white blonde girls and didn't think they were all just hysterics who need to be put on medication to shut them up, Gabby might be alive today. if only he'd paid attention to he real signs of distress and not dismissed her as just a silly woman like his wife. As he said to Gabby:
"My wife has really really bad anxiety and she takes medication for it daily. Sometimes, it’s not enough. Sometimes it just builds up," the officer says. "I will say this, when my wife got put on the medication, within a week, I saw a complete turnaround in her attitude. Her demeanor. She wasn’t nearly aggressive, or angry. It was a considerable difference in her day-to-day life. It made her quality of life better. It’s made my quality of life a lot better too because I don’t have her being as stressed. I know, five and half years of marriage, isn’t very long but at the same time you learn a lot."

R116, it was the cop trying to be "relatable" to this Gabby and her OCD issues (which she told him about). They are trained to do that, bring in personal things to help calm people down..
Not everything has to be an affront.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | September 20, 2021 1:25 AM |
Laundrie was put up in a hotel so they would stay apart for the night, not because he was a victim of domestic violence. In the words of the police officer:
Who do you think paid for the hotel? The cops? It was paid for by Seekhaven, a “family crisis charity”.
And fuckoff with your pointless rants, please.
Gabby admitted hitting and punching him. Brian had scratches on him he said came from Gabby. On this basis it was determined that he was the victim and she the aggressor which is why the charity paid for him and not her. Those are simply the facts.
You weren’t there, the police were. They are there to deal with crimes not psychoanalyse everyone. Brian is to blame for this, no one else.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | September 20, 2021 1:28 AM |
R124, we're not talking about it being an "affront" but about how this cop missed all the fucking signs about what was going on.
I'm not sure how "relatable" it was or how it would have calmed Gabby down for the cop to tell her that his wife is also crazy but she's a little better now she's on meds.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | September 20, 2021 1:32 AM |
And also, R111, if you bothered listening to the police cam all the way through you will get to the part where the police officer tells Gabby he will have to arrest her unless they spend the night apart & Brian asks to go to jail instead of her.
That was what was going on whether you like it or not.
I am aware that you enjoy performing these tedious “feminst, diatribes but stick to the fucking facts because it’s deeply annoying having to correct you.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | September 20, 2021 1:35 AM |
The police officer explicitly said that the only reason they were taking Laundrie to a hotel for one night was to separate him and Gabby for a bit so the situation between them could calm down, r125. As a man, and a very misogynist one at that, you obviously have no idea what actually happens in shelters for victims of domestic abuse - they don't get sent back to their abusive partner after just one night.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | September 20, 2021 1:35 AM |
The fact is that Laundrie appears to have murdered Gabby, r127. Gabby is dead. If anyone was a victim of violence in that relationship, it was her not him. It's not a "feminist diatribe" to be outraged at a violent, abusive man killing a woman.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | September 20, 2021 1:38 AM |
So why did Brian ask to go to jail insteagpd of Gabby?
The situation was basically, “I won’t arrest you if you stay apart tonight to calm down”.
It’s all there in the tape.
And I’m not a misogynist but with annoying cunts like you around it”s becoming very hard not to be.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | September 20, 2021 1:38 AM |
It's possible that Gabby didn't tell the cop: "He (Laundrie) attacked me and I scratched his face in self-defense." I think the cop was doing the best he could under the situation. They have to make judgment calls all day long. He was trying to use his personal experience to understand the situation. Who would have known the final outcome.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | September 20, 2021 1:39 AM |
I wonder if those cops just didn't want to be bothered. "Talk down to the chick to diffuse the situation" kind of crap?

To whatever "r" says women don't get sent back to their abusive partners after one night. True, they usually go back voluntarily within a day or two and the DV shelter personnel are trying to talk them out of it.
Sad but true. If I remember rightly an abused partner who gets out leaves quite a few times before it "takes" and they stay away.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | September 20, 2021 2:22 AM |
Yes blame the woman r144, who may have little other choice. A friend of mine works in a shelter and it is not at all like the stereotype you are claiming. Probably none of the women in her shelter go back to the man.
That's still an entirely different situation from Laundrie being sent to a hotel for just for one night so things could cool down.

No dice, R145, but nice try.
I worked in a DV shelter for three years. I know what I'm talking about. Most of the women go back within a day or two. Some last a week, some stick it out longer and break off the relationship but most don't. It's an extremely complex set of relationships, including those with both parents and their children.
I don't know where this magic shelter is where everybody stays and successfully gets out of their relationship immediately. Sounds like a fantasy.
If only the police officer didn't have such stereotypes about young pretty white blonde girls
I don't think it had anything to do with stereotypes of pretty white girls. In college in about 1996 a friend of mine was hit several times by her boyfriend, he got arrested, she came to my apartment to make the call and then left to make a statement at the station, where she was arrested because the boyfriend claimed she threw an ice cube at him. They had her take off her top in front of a two-way mirror to show the marks and bruises on her but he didn't have to show any evidence of the ice cube "injury." Her parents had to get an attorney who told them that this was really common, and the only reason charges against her were dropped is because the cop forgot to show up to the arraignment.
She wasn't a pretty blonde white girl. She was more like the imaginary fat lady from the Ozarks that some verbose troll earlier in the thread described (for reasons that aren't particularly clear). From what she told me the lawyer said, it sounded like all the women got this kind of treatment regardless of how they looked.
Just look at these threads, all these guys saying Gabby was a psychopath and killed for good reason, she's an abuser, she's evil, Brian's the real victim. There are a lot of people who honestly believe that. It's just their instinctual, knee-jerk reaction to everything, it's never the man, it's always the crazy lady.

During their fight, he was trying to leave her behind to cool off, saying they needed space from each other.
That makes sense, except stranding a young woman in a strange town when she's in distress is manipulative and likely worsened her emotional state.
I'm sure I would have freaked the fuck out if my boyfriend tried driving away without me. Who knows how manipulative he had been with her. Narcissists know how to push buttons until the other person loses their shit.
Here's a thought-perhaps the person who drove back to Florida alone and refused to help her distraught loved ones find her, or even notify them that she didn't come back, is not a great guy. Maybe he is adept at charming police officers and whoever else he needs to do he can be "the good guy."

He did have a chance to reach out to authorities in Wyoming and explain what happened if it was an accident.
He sent a text to her mother as Gabby after she had died. He refused to give helpful info, even just "we parted ways in Wyoming because it was getting too intense and she didn't want to drive the van, so I did, but I haven't heard from her since then."
He has not done anything to give the impression that he isn't a shitty human.
The suffering her family endured for weeks, now the trauma of her death being confirmed, the likelihood that his family helped him escape, the torment they'll live with until they die-it all rests on the shoulders of Brian and his family.
There needs to be consequences and closure for her family, to whatever extent possible.

Should add to my post at r167 that the emojis that went with the post included a fly, which doesn't make sense, and apparently she or Brian mentioned at some point that their van excursion was supposed to end on Halloween. People are speculating that the "Happy Halloween" post on her IG was something she saved in her drafts for when the trip was over, and Brian just posted it to make it look like she was still alive.
We don't have any actual evidence that this happened, it's just speculation.

You worked in a DV shelter for three years and you still blame the women, r149?
I agree with you that it's an extremely complex set of relationships, especially for those women with parents and children. As I said at r145, the women who do go back have very little choice in that.
My friend works in a women's refuge in London, where women and their children with abusive male partners are temporarily settled until the local council can find permanent housing for them. They also receive welfare benefits and the kids go to nearby schools. I guess that's the difference between what might happen in the US - when an abused woman has provision of housing, some financial independence, her child's education secured and she is no longer dependent on an abusive man, she rarely goes back
Again, this still has nothing to do with the situation between Laundrie and Petito.

The cops weren’t wrong, they came across a skirmish that happens all the time. If they took both parties in and charged them, these young people would have a mark on their record that could haunt their employment, living or relationship potential for the rest of their lives. Cops are trained to deescalate these situations and it’s dangerous to try to read them another way, accuse law enforcement of fault or take this decision out of their hands- especially if the couple seems to want to stay together or make it work out once they’ve calmed down.

To the previous posters, Gabby told LE when stopped (Brian was speeding and also hit a curb) that she wasn't really capable of driving the van. Yet she bought it and the van was in her name.
The couple had been living for some time with Brian's parents since all relocated from NY. Brian's parents owed a "juice business." Don't know if that's where Gabby worked in NY.
When asked what they thought of their son's ex-fiancee and current GF all Brian's parents reportedly said was that she'd bring attractive genes into the family. Were they hoping for beautiful looking grandchildren as their daughter isn't "model material?" Can't find the quote again (there are a lot on Reddit) but that's a totally bizarre statement.
Since Brian knew Gabby from at least high school his parents' callousness and coldness to her parents explain why their FL neighbors have aggressively turned against them. At the very least expect them to move away.

The remains found in the search for Gabby Petito were discovered near where YouTubers filmed her van before she went missing. The video was shared on social media by Jenn and Kyle Bethune, who are known on YouTube as "Red White & Bethune."
They posted the video over the weekend after reviewing their footage in light of the news coverage of Petito's disappearance. Shortly afterwards, officials announced that a body had been found. It was captured on August 27 at around 6 p.m. in Grand Teton National Park's Spread Creek Dispersed camping area, Jenn Bethune told Insider's Connor Perrett.
The FBI said on Sunday that human remains had been found in that camping area which matched Petito's description. The identity has not been confirmed, and the county coroner told CNN that an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Bethune told Insider that she was watching the video back weeks after it was filmed when she saw that her husband had accidentally filmed a white van. It looked like the one Petito and her finacé had been travelling in, and which police had publicized after Petito was reported missing.
She said her husband had accidentally left the camera recording. When they realized the information could prove useful, she said, they gave the footage to the FBI. Petito and finacé Brian Laundrie were travelling in a van before her parents reported her missing on September 11.

R111, if that is real commentary it is enraging. A young white couple reminds him of his own marriage but if he'd encountered a Black, Indigenous or Latinx couple in the same level of distress he would have jailed one or both of them.
If he'd done that with these two, Gabby might still be alive.

R230, Dispersed camping offers more space between campsites, and is much cheaper. There's fewer amenities ie no bathrooms or running water. Usually no fire rings or barbecue pits. It's favored by those with campers or trailers who don't need the "extras" Also there aren't as many rules like "quiet time with no music after 9 pm and until 7 am."
Some camp on BLM land which is free and open space too.

The stupidity of the posters claiming it was an accident. Let's say she ODed. Or fell of a cliff. He's her fiance. He would call for help. And even if you were short on brain cells and "panicked" ...well you're going break her parents hearts, and everyone who loved her, just so you don't have to face the facts of the "accident"? The FBI knocking on your door, everyone thinks you're a murderer, but you're in panic mode and just won't talk about it and if you don't talk about it for long enough, it will magically go away. Sure.

I don’t know why, but I have very little sympathy for this girl, all these people with curated IG lives who are hiding dark secrets, but covering them up and trying to get us to buy into their perfect lives are so disingenuous and fake. It sounds like she had many opportunities to walk away from this man and didn’t take them because that didn’t fit the narrative she wanted to sell. On some level she was complicit in her own fate.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | September 20, 2021 3:23 PM |

I don’t get the impression she stayed with him because she was trying to sell a narrative on social media. They were a couple, one or both of them had mental health issues, they were probably just trying to make it work. Also, they were practically children. An older and wiser person might have said “This is NOT worth it!” and walked away.

R255 Love. It's so strong it can hold you in a spot you should run from, make you think things can get better, change, are not as bad as they seem. She was a young girl who could not recognize the danger the problems of such a relationship could go to to murder. It's not like she would have experience or knowledge of this. Really I don't think a lot of people without some education would recognize it. Even just reading stories like this educates a person. Law enforcers, lawyers, judges, psychologists, nurses, teachers, so many professions must take classes to recognize the signs. Why would she? The poor innocent thing.
They called off the engagement but referred to themselves in a store while on their trip as engaged, happily waving goodbye as the store owner congratulated them on their engagement. They felt they were together, or at least she did. Him...was it unchecked rage, anger problem? Or was he going to do it and knew it.

In the affidavit submitted by North Port detectives, a timeline of Petito and Laundrie’s trip and the video journey they had taken together across social media platforms were detailed.
The timeline written by detectives for the search warrant covers a series of messages between Petito and her family, including “odd” messages to her mother received on Aug. 27, and a report that the van was detected by a license plate reader on the Sumter Boulevard exit of I-75. The timeline states that “a white Ford Transit, bearing Florida tag QFTG03…entered the City of North Port” on Sept. 1 at 10:26 a.m.
[…]
The timeline also stated that due to the circumstances related to Petito’s mental health, North Port Police believe there is probable cause that she is not able to care for herself due to “her increased anxiety” and concerns for her welfare had increased to an “exigent level.”
Petito’s cellphone was turned off for about 15 days, and was last on around Aug. 31 or Sept. 1. Petito had not been seen since Aug. 27. On Sept. 14, police executed a search warrant for the van that she and Laundrie had traveled in.
Inside the vehicle, crime scene technicians found the external hard drive at the center of the Sept. 15 search warrant. Police believe the storage device might have “viable digital forensic data” on it that could help them in their investigation.

Gabby Petito, Brian Laundrie fight in Utah described in 911 call
The 911 caller who reported a domestic incident between Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito in Utah last month claimed he’d seen a man “slapping” a woman, new audio revealed Monday.
The caller told dispatchers that he had encountered a man and woman in Moab on Aug. 12 engaged in a “domestic dispute,” according to audio obtained by Fox News.
“We drove by and the gentleman was slapping the girl,” the caller said.
The dispatcher responded, “He was slapping her?”
“Yes, and then we stopped. They ran up and down the sidewalk, he proceeded to hit her, hopped in the car and they drove off,” the man replied.
The caller told authorities the pair had been driving in a white van with Florida plates.
The disturbing audio seemingly contradicted a police report in which Petito was depicted as the aggressor.
“The male tried to create distance by telling Gabbie [sic] to go take a walk to calm down, she didn’t want to be separated from the male, and began slapping him,” the report said.
“He grabbed her face and pushed her back as she pressed upon him and the van, he tried to lock her out and succeeded except for his driver’s door, she opened that and forced her way over him and into the vehicle before it drove off,” the report continued.
An officer wrote “it was reported the male had been observed to have assaulted the female,” but later determined that “no one reported that the male struck the female.”
Petito, 22, was reported missing by her family on Sept. 11 after Laundrie, 23, returned home to Florida 10 days earlier.
The FBI said Sunday that remains “consistent with the description” of Petito had been uncovered in Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming.

Her dad (I'm watching the video) is a classic "I hate every human male who dares to look at my princess." What a predictable result that his daughter ends up lacking self-respect and prone to hooking up with insecure, fragile-masculinity losers like Brian. That kind of posturing from dads is never really about the daughters so much as it is about the father's own...insecurity and fragile masculinity.

THIS is why we don’t appreciate people changing the language to fit their notions of perceived slights.

Well, Dad, if Gabby were ensconced in college or grad school or had recently graduated and started her first job, she wouldn’t have been roaming around for months on end in a van with a loser.
Why was Gabby so aimless? Parents likely never took much interest in her life or education.

While a 22-year-old isn’t a child, I’ve been thinking a lot lately how some kids are so much more vulnerable to tragedy just because of how their lives are structured.
Middle class kids with helicopter parents are so much less likely to be in harm’s way at any given time. Less likely to have “bad influence” friends, less likely to be attracted to losers, the list goes on.
Yet she also she said she considered him a friend. So why would you be friends with a creep?
No, R350, she USED TO consider him a friend until she found out what he was really like.
*****
Rose Davis, 21, of Sarasota, described Laundrie as a controlling and manipulative boyfriend, in one incident stealing Petitio’s ID so she wouldn’t be able to go out to bars with her.
Petito had described the strange episodes to Davis, which at times forced Petito to sleep at her house.
“He’s got these jealousy issues and he struggles from what Gabby called these “episodes,” where he would hear things and hear voices and wouldn’t sleep,” she told the outlet.
“Gabby had to stay at my house a bunch of times because she just needed a breather and didn’t want to go home to him.”
[bold]Davis said she “used to consider [Laundrie] a friend,” after spending time with the couple.[/bold]
She said the two friends would share locations on their iPhones to keep each other safe “in case we got lost,” but Laundrie made Petito stop sharing once he found out.
“He had this composure as a sweet, nice, caring guy. But you could tell he’s a little off, a little weird. Like, he’d set up our hammocks when we’d go to the beach, but wouldn’t sit with us, which I found bizarre,” she told the Daily Mail.
“Brian has a jealousy issue,” Rose said. “I’m her only friend in Florida to my knowledge and that’s not because she can’t make friends, he just didn’t want her to have friends.”
Rose Davis says Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie progressively got into “more and more arguments.”
“He was always worried she was going to leave him,” she said. “It was a constant thing to try to get us to stop hanging out.”
Davis told the Daily Mail that she’d last spoken to Petito in early August, where they discussed meeting up in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming for Davis’ birthday on Aug. 29. Davis said that she had requested off work for the days, but never went after never hearing back from Petito.
She said that the couple never fought in front of her, however she believed that she could tell when they had just had an argument. She said that within the first year of knowing her, Petito spent between seven and 10 nights at her house after they had fought.
“I do believe that their relationship as they kept going on was getting more problematic. It just seemed like there was more and more arguments,” she told the Daily Mail, adding that they had still planned on getting married despite Petito telling her mother it was called off.
“Everything she did, I feel like he thought was wrong.”
Rose Davis said Brian Laundrie has a “composure as a sweet, nice, caring guy. But you could tell he’s a little off, a little weird.”
“For her anxiety to act up like that, there has to be a decent thing to trigger it,” Davis said, adding that she was aware Petito suffered from anxiety.
She said she wished that Petito had decided to call her after that incident.
“I’m a little upset she didn’t just call me after that fight, because she would have before,” Davis said.

Gabby Petito disappearance: Who are Brian Laundrie’s parents?
Christopher, 62, and Roberta Laundrie, 55, bought their 1,448-square-foot home in North Port for $120,000 in August, 2015, according to property records.
Two years later, they tried selling the modest three bedroom, two bath home at $215,000 with no luck.
The couple runs a business called “Juice Services Inc.” out of their home that specializes in the sale and repair of wheatgrass, orange and vegetable juicers, according to company records.
Before their ill-fated road trip, Laundrie worked at an organic juice bar and Petito told cops in Moab, Utah that she was a “nutritionist.”
Up until 2008, the Laundries lived in Bayport, Long Island, where they ran another beverage vending machine business.

I had that stupid, stupid Steve Martin/Martin Short disaster of a “mystery” series on last night. Actually wasn’t so much watching it as using as background noise before I shut it down for good. The characters go on this diatribe about how disgusting Long Island is, completely getting the character of every town wrong (there’s no way the Steve Martin character would have a sister in Patchogue). Anyway, these 2 black guys are driving a car & Martin Short asked where they are and they say “Bayport. Something always pops off in this town.” They go on to describe it as a crime ridden, dangerous ghetto full of guns. Meanwhile, it’s an almost all-white working class town with a middle class that is peppered with large turn-of-the-20th century homes from when it was a seaside resort for the rich. I turned that show off because it sucked so bad.
But looks like something might’ve popped off from Bayport.

I definitely heard and agreed with the arguments that she was getting so much more coverage than girls of color who were missing at the same time, but the tone of the criticism was “everybody’s so obsessed with this blonde ditz, it’s ridiculous.” No, it’s not ridiculous when someone is murdered and their body disposed of.

R389, please list these regular occurrences of when pretty young blonde white women go missing/are murdered and the media won't stop going on about it. Many more pretty young blonde white women are murdered than you ever get to hear about. The reason people are fascinated by this case - aside from the fact that it's truly horrific - is that it has a strong crime story narrative to it and people think they're sleuths. The missing vlogger, the camper van, the fugitive boyfriend, the police body cam video, the discovery of the body, the crazy families.
Humans are primates, great apes in fact but I don’t know all how great we are as a species. Chimpanzees share 98.8% of there DNA with humans, our closest living relative, but as I see it every living creature is in some way our relative even trees. Only 800 million years ago animal cells started appearing on earth comprised of mainly the same parts and following the same functions as plant cells. Requiring oxygen, solar energy, minerals, nutrients and water. This tree(Juniperus osteosperma)was surviving in only inches of soil, in an area of extreme heat and drought. I think our culture, our society has put itself above all living creatures, creating needs purely to support destructive economic practices. This tree doesn’t require an Apple Watch, it doesn’t stream its favorite shows, or have a microwave oven, pay health insurance or drink grande iced caramel macchiatos. It is just a tree but you rarely see geese riding jet skis or wearing designer clothing either. I think if we all want breathable air and drinkable water we all need to learn how to live with less🌏

His behavior of saying nothing and immediately retaining a lawyer was ok so he could go anywhere he wanted including into hiding and the police thought it was fine and dandy? This is fucked up police work. He could have simply and openly gone to the airport and flown to a country which doesn't extradite to countries which have the death penalty and nobody could say anything because it was perfectly legal.

If she was exposed to that kind of behavior when growing up then she got a skewed version of "normal" that probably made her believe a certain amount of abuse was acceptable. That's incredibly common.
With apologies in advance for internalizing this, I was well into my 30s before I realized a lot of stuff my parents did weren't just asshole-y but fully abusive. Gabby went from living with her jerk dad to living with Brian's obviously screwed-up family and probably never realized how messed-up a lot of things in her life were. She likely made a lot of excuses for Brian's behavior because she didn't know better.

Plus all the internet "evidence," r397. I don't think this is a case of people caring more about pretty blonde girls than anyone else, I think it's a situation where footage and eyewitness accounts and Instagram posts were giving anyone who was curious new information in real time, allowing them to try to figure out where she was and what had happened to her.
The problem is you get too many people who see a reflection and go "That's a grimacing evil spirit in the van, I psychically feel that a murder has taken place there" or some troll changing their name to "Official FBI Account" claiming Brian was spotted in Pago Pago.

I'm not saying I'm the amazing Kreskin but you don't need esp to figure this guy could be dead. If he's out in that nature preserve I would think there is not a lot of food out there to survive on. Can you drink swamp water and be safely hydrated? He'd have to kill and eat a gator to get some meat. But on the other hand if he's not out there then maybe he's not dead. More no need of esp powers to figure on that one. I guess Kreskin still has a job.
As for getting to a foreign country by now the bank accounts of everyone probably have been looked into. To get a plane ticket these days don't you have to have proof of id? Wouldn't an airline say, 'hey, this guy is THAT guy' and report it before he ever got off the ground?
by Anonymous | reply 441 | September 21, 2021 2:56 PM |
It’s completely messed up, especially that he came home alone on 9/1, and didn’t bother to tell her family. They didn’t report her missing until 9/11.
I still don't know why he couldn't be held under surveillance 24/7 before they found her body. He returned home in HER van with her missing.
That’s what I was saying over the weekend here when I first heard about this case and I couldn’t understand why he just returned home in her van without her, supposedly said nothing to anyone about her whereabouts, and the police couldn’t even interview him? A couple Dataloungers—one of them exasperatedly—were like, “YES, it’s been explained 50 times! There’s no evidence of a crime, so they can’t ask him anything. He’s allowed to hire a lawyer and never say a word. Yes of course he killed her, but our criminal justice system is exquisite, and without a body they cannot ask him a single thing. Yes, he can now skip the country after killing her, without ever having to answer a single question, but that’s the glory of the 5th Amendment, the crown jewel of our Constitution. It’s quite beautiful, actually.”
That’s seriously how certain DLers reacted to this bizarre case.
by Anonymous | reply 443 | September 21, 2021 3:06 PM |
No one’s seen this guy for weeks—he could have flown out of the country before the time the case got massive publicity. No one knew who he was until a few weeks ago, so I think no airline would know who he was. On the other hand, I would think LE could obtain warrants to see if he flew anywhere.

Is there even proof he was in Florida for more than a day or so? Maybe he returned the van, then immediately took off based on guidance from his parents? He could have easily gotten away before anyone suspected anything at all - before people knew Gabby was missing.
Also, sounds like the parents business takes a lot of cash? Who knows how much they already easily had on hand to give to him - potentially.

But if he's trying to hide in the wilderness he won't last long, he'll get bored, anxious, or hungry, and get caught stealing food or lurking around a source of free wifi. He won't off himself, instead, he'll spend the rest of his life demanding that his parents get him out of all the trouble he put himself into. And they'll bankrupt themselves trying, because so many people will do anything for an only son, even if he's a total loser or rotter. They keep telling themselves that if they can just get him out of *this* jam, he'll get a clue and change... but of course he'll never change as long as they keep enabling him.

I thought his parents sold juicing crap out of their house, which he could have helped with, and he also worked at a juice bar somewhere. Does anybody recall there's been a pandemic lately and jobs like that only recently started opening up?
Anyway, I read the Laundrie house was about 1400 square feet. With four adults living in it. Not exactly luxury so I doubt they could support him on the run - at least not in lavish style. But maybe enough to get him to Latin America or something, a la Joran Van der Sloot (sp)

He's a 23 year old who shows no ambition other than to live parasitically off his gf, her parents, his parents, he's a leech. No plans to go to college? No inclination to learn a trade. Just living as he wants day to day. But he has a girlfriend. Thinking of a future for a young woman she knows she likely will have a child or children. Will need an income to provide for them. This leeching off people shows want of character. He's nasty to her , there are people who have seen him hitting her, he's abusive in manner and speech. What sort of man at the age of 23 is this? Has a young girl in love with him and possibly could pregnant at any moment. Does not feel the least bit of guilt over enjoying her sexually but not providing for any offspring he may create.

I’d be very surprised if he’s left the country. He doesn’t seem self sufficient/mature enough to make it on his own in a new place. Even if his parents were sending him money, I don’t think he’d last long.

Brian Laundrie potential spotted on deer cam in Florida, cops ‘actively’ investigating
Authorities in Florida said Tuesday that they are “actively” investigating deer camera footage that captured a hiker resembling Gabby Petito’s missing boyfriend Brian Laundrie trekking through the wilderness.
Sam Bass said that he spotted the man toting a backpack at 6:17 a.m. Monday in the town of Baker, Fla., about 500 miles away from Laundrie’s home in North Port.
“I’m not saying this is the guy but whoever was on my trail camera this morning in Baker, Fl strongly fits the description of Brian Laundrie,” Bass wrote on Facebook. “Authorities have been contacted but people in the North West Florida area be on the look out.”
Laundrie, who is a person of interest in Petito’s disappearance, was reported missing by his parents on Friday.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, which has jurisdiction over Baker, confirmed that they were looking into the possible sighting.
“We are aware and are actively checking it out,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Michele Nicholson told The Post Tuesday, adding, “At this point, there is no confirmation.”
Social media sleuths, however, have pointed out that the man’s backpack was similar to one pictured in Laundrie’s Instagram stories.
“Looks like the guy from Sam Bass’ video in Baker, Florida has the same backpack as Brian Laundrie. Could it actually be him?” wrote one Twitter user.
Laundrie’s parents told authorities that he had left home with a backpack to go on a hike in the area and never returned.
Search crews on Tuesday were hunting for him in Carlton Reserve in Sarasota County, where he allegedly abandoned his Ford Mustang.
The hunt for Laundrie comes after authorities found a body believed to be Petito’s in Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming on Sunday.

by Anonymous | reply 498 | September 21, 2021 5:43 PM |
Maybe Brian just drove so he could feel manlier, and also to claim it as "his", which gave him the power to abandon her in the middle of nowhere.
That's the thing, nobody's ever said for sure whose van it was. Did she own it, yet he treated it like his own? Or was it, as someone said on an earlier thread, the property of his parents?

He father worked for Time Warner Cable in media sales. Which means he very likely had access to people at the local cable company who in some fashion or even the local TV stations, where maybe he told someone who told someone that his daughter was missing and they suggested maybe they could help at the local level and he agreed. I think once the local news hyped it it didn't take long to go viral. Especially since Gabby herself gave the media so much of herself to draw from with her videos etc. I have seen several stories throughout the summer of little kids lost in the wilderness or campers or WTF, and most of them had happy endings, and it was just summer filler for the media. So while I absolutely agree that people of color are largely ignored, I can see how this particular story evolved and grew. Remember. It stats at the local level. Now would the local media have done as much for him if this involved people of color? We can only speculate, but I doubt it. (Oh, and sometimes the cops can urge the media to help them. But it begins as a local story, and it had a lot of assistance form Gabby. The local media and the national for that matter really didn't have to do much real work on it.

These days, it’s quite common for the young (and millennials) to do this. #vanlife is everywhere on social media and accepted, I’d kill—no pun intended—to do what they were doing. I mentioned this in the other thread but I wonder how easily he can disappear into the homeless population. All he needs is the willingness to be homeless. He was almost living that way on the road. Most homeless are off the grid, don't watch media, don't want to be bothered and generally leave others alone. He also suffers from psychosis so once he gets dirty and scruffs up he'll blend in. I have the same birthday as her. Fuck you Brian!
by Anonymous | reply 541 | September 21, 2021 9:49 PM |
No estimation of time of death, that would be important.
by Anonymous | reply 542 | September 21, 2021 9:52 PM |
Strangulation by ligature and broken hyoid bone. Like Jeffrey Epstein.
by Anonymous | reply 543 | September 21, 2021 9:58 PM |
R543, we have no idea if the report about strangulation is true. However, the conclusion that her death was a homicide is official. That means that it wasn’t “accidental,” as some posters had been hopefully asserting.
by Anonymous | reply 544 | September 21, 2021 10:15 PM |
Brian was considered a person of interest because there was no evidence of a crime previously. But now that the autopsy has indicated a homicide, why isn't Brian considered a suspect yet?

Has Dr Phil commented yet?
by Anonymous | reply 547 | September 22, 2021 4:24 AM |
Who cares? Just another dumb, white girl with an abusive boyfriend who murdered her. Why is this one special? Happens every fucking day.
by Anonymous | reply 548 | September 22, 2021 4:32 AM |
Well, her boyfriend has really big, sexy feet. There’s that, R548.
by Anonymous | reply 549 | September 22, 2021 4:34 AM |
Hey. My cousin's daughter was a recovering addict with mental health issues who had an abusive ex. They had two kids together so even though he had a girlfriend he was still in and out of her house to see his sons. So one day, the ex con was loaded on steroids, and when he and his girlfriend came to pick up the kids for the weekend, he and my cousin's daughter had a fight and he stabbed her to death while his girlfriend waited in the car. The girlfriend thought they were "just fighting."

Is he hot, R550?
by Anonymous | reply 551 | September 22, 2021 7:26 AM |
I don't know that you can infer much from the Spotify situation, I have two-factor authentication on and change my password regularly and I still get notifications every few months that someone else has logged into my account. They have terrible security.
by Anonymous | reply 552 | September 22, 2021 8:30 AM |
R515 I can. That was my parents daily life. And not in a van in a house. Unfortunately no one was killed. They were Catholics so they believed in destroying each other emotionally. And their kids.
by Anonymous | reply 553 | September 22, 2021 9:54 AM |
People don't care about young white men or old white people either so it isn't just a matter of color. It's the whole young white damsel in distress routine. It's not supposed to happen to them. Men, oldsters and POC? It's a big yawn. They're a dime a dozen.

Because people were commenting on Gabby's dad, the Facebook page of Kylen Schulte, one of the two women from Moab who were murdered in August, almost brought me to tears. He calls himself KYCRYDAD, because for him not just Kylen but and her wife Crystal too are his daughters.
I'd cut Gabby's dad some slack, this media stuff might just be his way of dealing with the situation, stopping his mind from going to some dark places.
by Anonymous | reply 555 | September 22, 2021 10:10 AM |
By the way, Kylen's dad says both she and Crystal were raped. This is very possible as according to the police warrant they were both found “undressed from the waist down,” and one of the two “had on a bra that was raised to expose her breasts”.
This could therefore also be a homophobic hate crime, a man who specifically wanted to rape a lesbian couple.

R509, The van is 9 years old(2012) so Gabby probably purchased it used.
But, Brian owns a pretty new looking Ford Mustang at his parents' house in FL. How could he afford to buy that?
by Anonymous | reply 557 | September 22, 2021 10:27 AM |
So, was Brian's the only cock Gabby ever had?

r555, what were the comments about Gabby's dad? I'm out of the loop.

In this instance I can't argue with the 'white girl gone missing' imbalance. Who cares? The only significance about this run of the mill domestic is it took place in the great outdoors. It's unfortunate, but it says more about cable than it does about crime.
by Anonymous | reply 561 | September 22, 2021 2:00 PM |
R554, it’s also used as a cautionary tale to young women—don’t go on adventures! Don’t leave the house! Stay here and be a happy housewife! You won’t be killed!
by Anonymous | reply 562 | September 22, 2021 3:34 PM |
I love how everything including the murder of a young woman turns into a race issue. But what about all the black trans Mormon amputees who have gone missing? Where’s the love and attention for them? Bottom line: a young woman’s life was cut short after being in what looks like an abusive relationship. Don’t turn it into a competition. I’m a gay white male in my late 60s and, trust me, no one would care if I went missing. But it doesn’t make me whine WHAT ABOUT MEEEEEEEEEEE?

There's also her social media presence in documenting what proved to be her final journey. Don't forget we're living in the age of "influencers."
by Anonymous | reply 567 | September 22, 2021 4:55 PM |
It doesn't seem to be true, r566. The video came from some random account claiming they got it off IG but it doesn't have the tags an IG live would have.
Crucially, the video being circulated is missing an overlay that is typical of Instagram Live videos: a "Live" logo and a numeric count of how many viewers are watching.

R560, that he was a macho creep on Dr Phil, called Laundrie Brianna and her other boyfriends by feminised version of their names, that's he's trashy.

This morning on CNN, they interviewed a psychologist who said when so much attention is paid to missing white women, it sends a message to prospective abductors that they should prey upon a female of color because the search for her will be much less intense.

I've fallen behind in my reading especially with 3 threads on this, but he's most likely alligator excrement (who knew SOMETHING was capable of making him look better). I still think Gabby had yet-to-be dropped crotchfruit (unless more autopsy details indicate otherwise), or she was threatening to turn him in for the lesbian murders, and he toed up loose ends.
Even if he didn't do it, she may have had herself convinced her did, and was threatening him with that, given the paranoia that accompanies bi-polar , truth makes little difference.

She kinda has one of those Johnny Carson names, doesn't she? Can't you imagine Carson saying in that Reggie Van Gleason voice "Hmmmm Gabby PETITOOOO"

I couldn’t give a shit if I tried. I see stories like this on ID Channel and Oxygen 24 hrs a day.
by Anonymous | reply 576 | September 22, 2021 6:14 PM |
You've posted that on multiple threads r576 which kinda says you do give a shit.
Also, since you're leaving your TV on ID and Oxygen all day while they run shows about stories like this, it seems like you do indeed give a shit.
by Anonymous | reply 577 | September 22, 2021 6:24 PM |
Um , r577 only one other thread. And you need to go get a life.
by Anonymous | reply 578 | September 22, 2021 6:27 PM |
Just a suggestion, since we're getting near 600 posts, can we not start a new thread and instead go to the already active thread that has fewer than 200 replies right now?
by Anonymous | reply 579 | September 22, 2021 6:33 PM |
^^ I don’t agree to that

It's time for a new thread any minute.
What is this bullshit about going back to abandoned threads? Just move on. It's not as if we're "saving" something or gaining anything by recycling dead threads. Start a new one with the date so we know where the latest is to be found.
Or I'll start a new one if people are busy having a meeting about it, whatever.
by Anonymous | reply 587 | September 23, 2021 12:54 AM |
I’m ok going to one of the other threads, tbh r587. They actually aren’t dead, and there are so many that I prefer consolidating a bit.
by Anonymous | reply 588 | September 23, 2021 12:59 AM |
It's not as if we're saving shelf space, dear.

R584 - So, over 34,000 white women went missing and we know the names of... 4. That means the other 33,996+ white women are also underrepresented in media attention. The next largest group was AA at around 15,000. That's 15,000 unrepresented missing AA women and almost 34,000 unrepresented missing white women.
White privilege at work. (eyeroll)
by Anonymous | reply 590 | September 23, 2021 1:09 AM |
R587 is just bitching at my suggestion we not create yet another thread, because they said something stupid elsewhere and I made fun of them for it. There is no emotion on DL other than spite.
Of course those other threads we could have used aren't abandoned, they were (and still are) active, he's just lying.

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
