I HATED AS5. The Assassin concept was so dumb and made the game a lot less closer than it used to be in that instead of two winners an episode we were down to one. And, even though I personally find her overrated, it was clear from the start that Shae was going to win.

Episode 1 Thoughts:

Jiggly probably should have also been in the bottom. I do not think Serena Cha Cha did that bad, Trinity did far far worse. But I cannot say that I would have wanted Trinity to leave. Serena was lucky to even get this chance. So right person went home.

Ginger was a bit disappointing. She is so talented and a great singer so having her dance to one of her poppy tracks was kind of boring but I get she wanted to show versatility.

Silky wasn’t the best singer, but it was an original concept and also on brand; for that alone she should have been safe, and Jiggly in the bottom instead.

I would have put Scarlett, Yara and Raja in top, with Raja winning.

So now I understand that Trinity's an introvert, has accepted that she's an introvert, and has to maneuver around what that will mean in a competition show where the opinions of others matter.

All the girls singing or lip syncing to their own music? Stupid.

Serena with the wigs. Why didn't she actually use the wigs? I thought it was going to be a series of wig reveals or something.

The piano was nice. I would have preferred much more of the southern gospel piano without singing.

Episode 2 Thoughts: Not spoilers as the episode has been out for over 24 hours.

I heard leaks that Yara was out first and I am so glad that was wrong. I was worried that meant she was sent home in episode two, but I am glad she stayed.

Trinity had a shitty first look but her beautiful final look saved it. Both Jan and Scarlet totally flubbed the first category. Working Girl Realness is so easy, why would you come as a tire or a circular saw? Scarlets final look was beautiful but not enough to make up for the first two, so kudos to the judges.

I didn’t like Silkys final look, or her jeans looks, but I would rather see her on my TV than Jiggly so I am not mad.

Rightful winner, rightful runner up in Eureka. Honorable mention to Trinity for that gown.

RuPaul has a hard on for Eureka. I don't understand why.

Yeah this is true. Eureka is the only big girl (on American drag race at least) who’s been consistently fashionable. Ginger and Latrice may be more talented but their fashion choices are choices….

Eureka is the only RPDR big girl I can think of that consistently shows a flattering silhouette, where the shoulders should match them hips, and an actual waist. So many of the other big girls just let their gunts hang out.

Ginger is one of those queens that I can admit is talented, but something about her just doesn’t “click” for me. I really don’t think that any queens who have been on an iteration of All Stars that wasn’t AS1 should be allowed to compete again.

Anyway, it’s quite jarring how after all this time RPDR changed the soundbite “May the best *Woman* win” to “May the best *Drag Queen* win”. Hmmm. Dunno how to feel about that. Really it’s technically more accurate and in some ways more respectful to actual women, but it also feels a bit like capitulation to some T pandering (and I don’t have a problem with Ts competing btw—they used to be men, and they aren’t actually women, so whatever, fuck it up).

There is also a noticeable uptick in quality for the graphics on the AS shows compared to the normal ones. Isn’t that backwards? And they remixed the runway ident music as well, it sounds like a robot having an epileptic fit. The whole production is rather on the busy and blaring side, lacking the thrown together chaotic-crackhead charm of earlier seasons (I enjoy seeing clips of the first few seasons in flashbacks, it looks like a more fun show).

Jan is one of the most repulsive queens to be on the show. Yes, I know I should hate queens like Silky and Eureka, but at least those two queens are GENUINE with their annoying as fuck personalities. Jan is just... paint by numbers and comes across as super CREEPY to me.

R151 Raja's outfits looked pedestrian and simple compared to Scarlett Envy, though. Ru clearly was throwing her a $20,000 bone.

R156 Jan IS creepy! And then she puts in those contacts and STARES WITH HER BIG EYES and it makes her look even creepier. I'm wondering if she does that on purpose, she seems to be pretty aware of the cameras, but for some reason she thinks it looks good and not axe-murdery.

R156 Jan is one of those queens who definitely should have passed on All Stars until she had time to grow. She was boring and uncharacteristic on her original season, and she hasn’t changed at all. Nothing about her feels authentic. Even her real life drama is inauthentic, like her trying to come for Nina Bonina Brown (who is far more talented) for being transphobic when she doesn’t even know her in real life.

R152 No one could be that "on" all the time.

Silky actually seemed subdued the first few episodes, I think that is intentional. At least we didn't have to endure another "everyone thinks Silky is annoying" storyline.

R155 when I saw all the songs I thought "I guess everyone was told to sing", but then they started changing it up. Singers are rarely memorable, they should have done things like what Scarlett did. Even Raja, who I immensely dislike, did something different and therefore memorable even if it was just her quickly sewing two pieces of fabric together.

Yara's floppy tits were the star of her act, but there wasn't a lot to it. It just made Ru laugh the most. The other acts were better and more planned out. Yara was just gimmicky.

I'm watching the All Stars Untucked now, and Ginger Minj thought Silky's routine was the best, so I am surprised the judges nitpicked it like they did, especially THE HILARIOUS* ROSS MATTHEWS.

R155 didn't Trinity just rehash that standup she did with her grandma and her light bill, from her season? I thought that was pretty weak - don't just redo what you did before, that's lame.

161 Yara’s only worked because it was a minute long. Any longer and it would have bombed. I agree it was a pity that almost everyone did the same thing.

So many things can be mastered when you only need one minute to fill. Learn a few magic tricks. Juggle. Breath fire. Anything out of the box that doesn’t bomb seems to be at least an automatic safe.

I love the demented joyousness of Yara. I know she won't win, but I am enjoying her trying.

I’m sad that Jiggly was eliminated. It should’ve been Yara. I don’t think she deserved to win the last challenge and I don’t think Jiggly’s looks in this episode were that bad. She’s certainly improved a lot since season 4.

I only see Yara as a messy, pushy loon who gets credit for being "outside the box" and "creative" while her looks are heavy, badly designed and always creepy in a bad way. The stooped, quivering game is so old and the girl is not young enough to seem fresh any more.

Yara is not as endearing as previously and his makeup is awful. Raja being in the top and Scarlett not (in either episode) is shameful. He has ELEVATED.

I will be kind and say that I am relieved to be able to see that I am not the only person who put on an unnecessary amount of weight recently.

I was surprised that Scarlett was not in the top this episode. I thought her looks were better than Rajah's. Akeria's final look was a mess and she should have been read for it.

R184 I think Scarlet deserving wasn’t in the top for two reasons. First, she didn’t embrace the materials. She used fabric for her final gown while Raja used a chair. Secondly, Scarlett’s first look was shit. She was supposed to serve Blue Collar Realness, but instead she was dressed as a circular saw.

R136 I had the opposite impression of her first look. It was creative and outside the box, while still being fashion. Most of the blue collar realness looks were similar concepts, except for hers. Yep, I was a Silky fan before she started posting on DL. I often wonder if the reaction to Silky would have been so strong if people would have seen Silky not filtered through Drag Race storyline editing. I think Silky has a lot of personality, but it's all in the way that personality is edited for a reality show that causes a reaction. Some of the things Silky got blasted for during her season was stuff that other queens got praise for. It's weird.

The show being on Paramount Plus is so stupid. Part of what makes drag race fun is the live viewing experience. Getting to go to gay bars or watch parties to see it, seeing the twitter reactions while it airs.

Now it pops up on a streaming service in the middle of the night and people just check it out at different times. The communal experience is lost.

Oh, to the person who couldn't find All Stars Untucked on Paramount+ - I just went to related shows from All Stars and it showed up there.

R228 they spent the entire first one or two episodes of season 11 showing the other queens telling us how annoying Silky was, which was a shitty thing to do because they know that the big queens already take double the hate from the fan base just by virtue of being big and having self confidence about it.

Then Silky seemed cool the rest of the season, aside from a few cases where she stepped on her own feet. I've not laughed harder at a Drag Race episode than the one where Silky had to dress Souju, mainly from her reactions to being tossed into an unwinnable situation. But she still did a good job (except for Souju's makeup, which was bad).

Compare that to a queen like Brooke Lynn Hytes who clearly knew the camera was there and was very careful what she said and constantly editing ("clarifying") things she said afterwards, and I think the fan base just doesn't get the nuance and that they were being played by that charm-free ex-drag ballet dancer.

I think the queens accusing of Silky of playing for the cameras were actually the ones who were playing for the cameras, and they were pissed that Silky was thwarting their plans and planned catchphrases.

I noticed keep referring to "last season" when I mean season 11, because I _just_ watched it. Drag Race does this weird thing where there's always one season that is impossible to find except on (random obscure streaming app) for a long period of time. I could watch season 10 and season 12 and 13, but not season 11. So season 11 is the one I have most recently in mind which is why the Rajah drama is still fresh for me and why I remember it so well.

I don't typically need/carry a cable sub but I paid for it last month so I could finally watch s11 on the VH1 app.

Like right now on Paramount+ you can watch All Stars s1-4, and these first two episodes of s6, but s5 is only on (some obscure streaming app).

Rajah also knew she was lipsyncing that episode so she was lashing out at everyone rather than admit her own failings. And Plastique was an easy target because she's nice and doesn't fight back. Rajah was clearly jealous of her, just like she was clearly jealous of Scarlett.

The nastiness Rajah displayed after she won the lip sync against Scarlett Envy - badmouthing her again and refusing to read out loud what Scarlett wrote on the mirror (and demanding no one else do so, either) was just more example of her piss-poor attitude and lack of grace. No surprise she went home the following week.

She was so nasty and bitter on her season.

I thought it was interesting that Ra'Jah didn't return for the makeover challenge later in the season*, but queens who had been eliminated before her, like Soju and Honey, did.

*To comment on something R187 asked (whether Silky got along with Scarlet in S11), they did go at it in the workroom in this episode, because Scarlet made it clear that she was surprised to see both Silky and Vanjie still in the competition.

r273 Scarlett said that after she'd already been eliminated though, when they were all talking. An honest opinion isn't really shade. I didn't think Scarlett was shady, she said what she was thinking, at least based on what was shown on the show. But before that I don't remember seeing any negativity between Scarlett or Silky which is why I was curious, since it seemed like some of the queens kept complaining about how Scarlett was annoying and too confident. They didn't seem to show much of that on the show, though, so I was wondering what (if anything) happened behind the scenes that set them all off. Their "examples" of Scarlett being cocky weren't really that bad, definitely not equal to the level of vitriol directed at her by Rajah.

And to be quite honest, Vangie and Silky only survived some of those episodes because Ru purposely threw them a bone. Ru knows good TV when she sees it and even though they may not have done the best in those challenges, they were hilarious and added a lot to the episodes. The times when one or both of them would have been in the bottom, Ru would make them safe, and that carried them through to the final few episodes until Vangie got eliminated at last. Very, very clearly done because of personality - and there's nothing wrong with that, except it does make Ru and the other judges look hypocritical when they're ostensibly judging based on the lip sync, or the challenge, and you know they're not.

Speaking of really transparent and fake judging, do you remember when Priyanka had that HIDEOUS, cheap-looking dress with the metal umbrella skeleton? She looked like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree. And the judges (led by Brooke Lynn and Stacey) just ORGASMED over it when she clearly should have been in the bottom and/or sent home because of it. It just looked so cheap and bad on camera, I don't see how they could have thought it was worthy of any praise except a "well... at least you tried".

r270 You don't change that much in two years. She's older and so probably a little more mellow in general, but she is still the same nasty cunt. While I know there's still some "twist" coming with the "Game within a game", I'm really glad we don't have to listen to Jiggly's whining and crying. It was weird that the second All Stars Untucked focused on her crying and drama about possibly being eliminated and then spent the other half focusing on Brooke Lynn Hytes. We got next to none of the queens talking like a regular Untucked, it felt more like bits they'd cut from the main episode than anything. r278 I didn't really think much of Jeffrey Boyer-Chapman before Drag Race Canada except that he was decently good looking, but whatever character he was playing during that show (or was it his real personality?) was just terrible. And then you add in the judging and the fact that Brooke Lynn Hytes seems to suck personality out of people AROUND her, not to mention her own styrofoam-packed charm, and it was just a mess. You know, I never watched the last episode or two? Once they eliminated Jimbo for no reason I was just like, okay, I can't take any more of this. I still don't even know (or care) who won. It shouldn't be painful to watch Drag Race!

I feel bad for Jeffrey because I don't think it was his choice to do that—I believe he was told by production to play the bitchy judge role usually reserved for Ru. He deleted his Twitter because of all the hate he was getting, plus he ended up getting fired anyway.

One of Delta's lame excuses was that she had let her cosmetology license expire and she couldn't afford to renew it on top of the union dues (the union requires that members be licensed). She also got shut out of working on [italic]Drag Race UK[/italic] because she couldn't be bothered to scrape the money together.

Okay, back in 2003, I joined the Makeup/Hair union, and the fee was $4700, which they let me pay half, then then other half within 18 months. I know that the fee has increased (I think it's up to $7000 or more), and they demand that you pay everything upfront. So I don't know what this $2000 sum is. Dues are about $300 quarterly, and that includes our medical/dental, which is pretty amazing. If the union wanted at least $5000-$6000 upfront, then I do understand her situation, but she could have gotten a loan.

If Delta's cosmetology license expired, then she would have to pay $100 to renew it. If she got it in CA, she wouldn't have to take classes, but if it was another state, she would have to take 3 months off to take all the classes.

Scarlett this time around reminds me of Gigi Goode- supremely confident. She looks more uhhh fishy this time too, less like a man in a wig.

R299 A'keria and Ginger will likely make it to the top 3. Pandora I would say top five at best. She's been coming across really nervous in the first two episodes and I think she might be intimidated. Also, the show seems not to like older Queens. I agree with R298 that if Ginger and A'keria make it to the top, A'keria will win. Since All Stars 4, producers have been wary of crowning white Queens although Ginger being plus sized might be enough to let Ginger crack by.

It does seem intentional that all of the recent queens have been black. There was also that season during the pandemic (12 or 13?) where Ru had only black guest judges. That would have been filmed during the BLM protests I think.

I just don't get much from Akeria. She's good but just not a personality that stands out to me. (I have taken a stand against using stupid punctuation in queens' names, it's like someone who puts hearts over their i's at this point).

I love Ginger (altho do think it's a bit odd that she made a big deal about how Jiggly is her best, BEST, BESSSST friend at the competition) but her runways aren't great and that seems to be The big requirement since season 6. So I don't think she will win unless Ru goes out of her way to clear the path for her.

Eureka has great runways and is good in a lot (not all) of challenges but she seems overexposed (and she has some big emotional antifans who would love to see her just drop dead, for whatever reason). So I don't think she will win.

Pandora so far seems to have lost whatever spark she had ages ago. She really made a negative impression in her original All Stars season and now she just seems very, very old and worn out. Has she had a drug problem or something similar?

R303 A few years ago there was a small but vocal backlash on social media claiming that RuPaul only liked to crown white and blonde Queens which is ridiculous for two reasons: it's people on social media who largely determine who the winner is, and to date, there have only been 4 or 5 white Queen's crowned in 13 season, the winners have been very diverse since the show started. But this irked producers and so Trinity and Monet tied AS4 fearing a backlash if Trinity won (despite the fact Trinity clearly won the season).

R304 oh yeah they've been saying that since season 7, I think. That was why Trinity and Monet x change were given the dual crowns for All Stars 4 (?)

It's a way of "working the refs", (similarly used by Republican politicians to bully news organizations and social media etc.). into giving them better coverage. I think the black queens tended to have less money coming in so their drag isn't as good (which Ru really values over everything) but that seems to have changed the last three seasons as the incoming queens have had much better outfits.

I think a better way to level the playing field is to give each Queen a budget of $10,000. 12 queens = $120K (just add 2 or 3 more commercials into the show to pay for it or do an in show sponsorship - bring Absolut back) and all they are allowed to bring with them is makeup and hair and maybe some key additional pieces.

No other show requires the contestants to take out a second mortgage in order to compete. All Stars is different, these queen should be making money and can afford custom looks. But on the mother ship, you limit the people who can participate because they can't afford to.

R303 I think it is intentional but for different reasons. In season 11, it was clear they wanted a Black queen because in part so many were cast. Then, in All Stars, it seems Manilla would have won, but Naomi kicked her out, and Valentina didn’t do as good as expected, so, while one of them could have won (non white), they had no choice but to give it to a Black queen. Then, during season 12, it was during the peak of BLM PLUS Sherry Pie was disqualified, so Jaida was kind of the only choice. Finally, in S13, Symone did too good not to crown. I don’t think it was ever a situation on “lets crown only Black queens for a while” and more of each season having factors which lead to a Black Queen winning. And then AS5 was made for Shae to win.

I also think that is why so many White queens won before that as well. Less about wanting a White queen and more about various circumstances on each Season. Asia fucked up sooo bad that she couldn’t win. Shangela was disliked by her peers. Sasha beat Shae unexpectedly.

In fact, during the vote at the end of the season producers heavily pressured them to eliminate Shangela from the top 2. Katya has also stated they knew that Alaksa was going to win.

Though I will say Alaska, Trixie and Shea all seem like quite chilly people behind the paint.

That season seemed determined from the start to crown a young fashion queen since those would always have tons of social media pull even if they had no talent. Half the cast this season was young fashion queens who easily appealed to the new mainstream demographics the show was attracting.

Silky Nutmeg Ganache barely resembles human proportions.

I was not a fan of Silky on her original season and I really didn't like her attitude and her sloppy drag, and much like Kandy felt like she was constantly being given a pass by the judges when she really should have been eliminated.

BUT that said, she did make me laugh a few times, so she wasn't completely unentertaining as Kandy was. I am willing to give her another chance on All Stars, but after the first couple of episodes I'm not yet convinced she's managed to elevate her drag. Though I do think her hair and make-up on her entrance was much better than I'd seen previously so there is some improvement there.

I really could not STAND Ra'jah on her original season, so far she hasn't done anything to annoy me and her looks have been very good, it remains to be seen whether she will have a rudemption.

Scarlett I thought was great in her original season and was sent home prematurely so I'm pleased to see her back and I hope she does well.

I don't have strong opinions particularly over the rest of the cast yet. I do think that they are perhaps stretching the ALL STARS concept a bit at this point but that's the problem with having an All Stars season each year - really, it should have been bi-annually at most. Though that does make it slightly more interesting as it's really hard to call who might end up on top!

I call bullshit on that R338. Katya was on the rise going into her season of All Stars and everyone loved her. Alaska came across as really pathetic when she threw a tantrum over - I can't even remember what it was. People also hated the return of RolAskaTox and how Alaska should never have eliminated Tati. Going into the final, there was WAY more support for Katya to win than Alaska, but they picked Alaska anyway because...reasons.

Alaska was the rightful winner of AS2, but I think in the process she undid most of the popular sentiment from season five that she was the nice one in Rolaskatox and the least beholden to their alliance.

Katya, like Ben Dela Creme, has a conscientious objector streak that keeps her from buying into the program like other queens do - she had a great run on AS2, but I think exorcising some of her demons was way more important to her than winning.

I want Jan to stay in the top 3 or be safe, but not win, for the next several episodes, then end up in the bottom 2. She will lose her mind and it will be a fun watch.

Allstars is a Ru demption road for several queens, Ra'Jah being one of them. Even if she does not place in top 3 she wins already for not being a cunt. I don't know why Ginger would come back again...she knows how it works with the lipsticks. I think she won't win, too many chances. Of all of them honestly I am rooting or Eureka.

And I'm not one of these blame the editing people. People said what they said and did what they did, but it can be edited together to appear a certain way and lead the audience down a certain road. Once again I will compare it to Big Brother. The people who watch the feeds versus the people who just watch the edited show, get a completely different view of the houseguests.

And as for her "sloppy drag"? Isn't that what Drag Race is sort of about? Taking queens who are on the come up and helping them polish their performances and looks so they can move to the next level?

They did seem to go out of their way to show every time Silky had the slightest flaw in her outfits.

That being said, she seemed to have a "good enough" attitude about some of the challenges (like the one with the face mask where she barely did any makeup under it). Like she knew she was doing enough to be safe and that she wasn't going to do more. She's definitely not a perfectionist like some of the queens.

I liked the messiness though, but that whole season felt off because it really did seem like Ru wanted Silky and Vangie there the entire time, and so she pushed them through, despite Michelle's endless (and irritating) nagging about Vangie's silhouette. So you knew in advance who was going to stay. Ru's gotten far more obvious with her machinations.

She did the same thing with Kandi Muse in her season, but Kandi was far less entertaining than Silky or Vangie.

To the person above saying that the fat queens should stop talking about being fat or lose weight - It's actually not that simple. When you get to a certain level of obesity, your metabolism slows down to a crawl. So you really aren't eating a ton of food. And repairing a broken metabolism can be difficult to impossible.

In order to lose weight, a person must eat less calories, but when your metabolism is that out of whack that you burn 50% the calories you should be (again, when you get to the "morbidly obese" level) you have to actually starve yourself to lose weight. You can't just "eat normally". Your body wants, for example, 5k calories a day. But if you eat more than 3k calories, because your metabolism is halved, you actually will gain weight. So to lose weight you have to eat 2k or so, and if you're morbidly obese this is starving yourself.

Once you lose weight, your metabolism is still fucked, so you have to - again - eat less than a normal person would to just MAINTAIN your weight. In effect you are having to diet forever. There is no return to normalcy.

The only way to break this currently is to do something drastic like gastric bypass surgery, which besides being expensive, does not last and has lifelong health implications.

Like the episode after she got called out for her padding, she was clearly then wearing multiple pairs of stockings to smooth out the pad edges (as suggested) but they still showed Michelle digging her for her padding problems, which were much less visible because she WAS listening to the judges. They didn't show Michelle noticing that she'd tried and had improved, because that wasn't part of their storyline that Silky was messy and overconfident and not listening to anyone's feedback.

They were definitely pushing the narrative that she was a messy queen, just as they were pushing the narrative that Vangie relied on a SINGLE SILHOUETTE (gasp!). The constant critiques about it from the judges on both counts got tiresome and annoying.

For someone with a body like Silky's it's got to be a lot harder to make sure everything is on point from all angles. Compare that to a queen like Eureka, who is a big queen but also has a different body shape, and that makes it far easier for her to handle things like that. It's Silky's body type that works against her. Not just as a big queen, but also the shape she's fighting against.

Take a look at how WOW handled her being an idiot and distracting in the workroom and phoning in her outfits. They just showed the other queens saying she was in her own world in a "oh, she's so beloved and nuts" sort of way. What I saw? Someone acting for the camera to get more airtime and attention.

Compare that to how Silly was shown by WOW and what her castmates said - the first several episodes they repeatedly said she was annoying, that she was acting for the camera, etc., and that became her main storyline. What I saw? Someone who was super excited and enthused to be there and who the other queens were jealous of.

Maybe part of the difference is the other queens knew Yara isn't a threat - she's a filler queen - where Silky could have won the whole thing.

I think Ak'eria should have gone home - she is not good at acting at all, and she's one of those "wooden delivery" queens every season has a few of - they just have no ability to act at all.

Even though Silky didn't say as much, she was funny in her actions and stood out. That plus her outfit should have kept her safe.

The problem was that Alyssa wasn't noticeably trying to create those moments, since she genuinely felt that she was all glamor and no humor. So by the time Laganja was eliminated, she had irritated the judges, all the other remaining contestants (including her long-time friend Adore who correctly clocked her act for what it was) and probably Ru herself.

I think she would have had a better run had she got on the show in a later season, after getting some maturity and a better combination of meds. She's apparently turned down All Stars several times.

I don't know if it's the real Silky reading this, but I just wanted to say - I can tell Silky is at heart a good person, and I did actually want to see more of her...BUT that said I've seen a couple of interviews and Silky is complaining about her mistreatment by fans and club promoters etc after her original season, and while I agree that hating on people is NOT ok and she most likely WAS mistreated, there seems to be a lack of self-awareness there and no acknowledgement of the negative behaviours that were the reason why people had negative perceptions.

I'm not anti-trans, but Mik was able to get a certain silhouette that no male drag queen would be able to achieve without a lot of work. They even "altered" the judging in certain ways.

GottMik just seemed like a straight woman who wanted to be a gay man so much that she transed herself. Her runways were beautiful and expensive but many were copies of things worn by queens in earlier seasons.

I really want to like Jan, but there just seems to be no soul to her performances. With many of the other contestants, you can see an inner drive to express their personality and humor, along with the drag fabulousness. With Jan, it's just the exterior she's trying so hard to express, nothing else. It's really strange.

The thing is, she's really good at that exterior. I think she just needs to go on a Walkabout for a few years, and find her soul, so that she can come back and kick ass with her presentation skills.

I think Jan's popularity is specific to her musical theater background, and her girl group "Stephanie's Child" which also includes Rose' from Season 13. Her name in NYC is Jansport, but that's a trademark violation that Ru doesn't want to get into, so she had to shorten her name.
