Just some of the normal, everyday shit on DL is disappointing. Calling someone "retard" for a minor disagreement. Sometimes you wonder what people do for a living. Do they really interact with people in this manner?

I know of posters who have been stalked by a lunatic here for about 10 years. One of the "special" DLers who threatens to cut people's throats but always finds a way back in. It accuses posters of being other posters, says it has the FBI involved, says it is suing the DL and then says it has power over the DL. Very unpleasant and stupid.

Yeah, ignoring the worst is best. But hard when it's so hateful and personal, I imagine.

I don’t understand how there are so many people on here who are not on the side of the trans women and men. The division is so disheartening.

I'm not against trans women - I'm just against being placed in the same group as them. Gay men and trans women have different agendas (not that they don't overlap on many points).

When I first came on DL I posted once in a rather benign fashion about something or other. Someone took exception to it apparently because he called me a fat cunt. I was really hurt for a while, though I don't know why. Only when I began visiting the site regularly did I realize that it was the lingua franca. It's funny how an anonymous board affected me in that way.

The MBM and Oopsie Grandaddy threads are some of my favorites. I assumed that there were other cruel threads going on, but glad to know that I've seen the "best" of DL. Please continue to point out other threads that I've missed.

Everyone is fair game here. Frauen, faygala, auto-immuned diseased, advocates for peanut allergy suffers, muscle worshippers, traditionally masculine looking gays, the clergy, lesbians, Christians, entertainers....NO ONE IS EXEMPT. Once you realize that, your time in the DL will be easier. Think of it as a tour through Hell and it's really quite entertaining.

The cruelty against each other is the worst. I remember a poster asking for advice on how to cook pork chops. Most replies were helpful, but one reply instructed the OP to shove his pork chops up his ass for asking such a stupid question.

When people post they’re suicidal and other posters make fun or encourage them to do it really bothers me.

When I first got to DL, years ago, I was on other message boards. You had to register a name and everyone played cutesy nice with everyone else, while slicing them up in private group chats.

Several months ago one of those exact threads was taken over by a homophobic troll, and when she was caught, she crafted herself this really nutty backstory that for some reason a lot of DLers believed. They were all so busy patting themselves on the back for being so kind and warm and generous to each other about their birds and their puppies and their kitties, that when a couple people pointed out that the nutty lady was also the homophobe, they lost their fucking minds.

It wasn't funny or witty, it was just mean for the sake of being mean, the same "ooh, what a dollface, your kitty is so sweet, isn't DL nice sometimes?" people were screaming at the those who had tried to warn them about the homophobe. There were threats. They took it to other threads. They defended that homophobe like she was their own sainted mother.

That kind of thing happens all the time. I see people say that DL is full of witty cuntery and it's fierce and intelligent, but I haven't seen a sign of any of that so-called intelligence for quite a while. I think a lot of people think this is still the DL of 2004.
