One wild card left in Nevada: 60,000 provisional ballots are still out. Those could break more for Trump than the mail in ballots, we just don't know, says John Lapinski, NBC director of elections

by Anonymousreply 5November 6, 2020 7:11 PM

Hi Georgia!

by Anonymousreply 6November 6, 2020 7:11 PM

What is this nonsense of Trump trying to get legislators to pressure electors to go against the will of the people? That and his planned victory rally this weekend ... who is enabling this nonsense?

by Anonymousreply 7November 6, 2020 7:13 PM

Timmy reposted a GA peach meme. Let the celebrations begin!

by Anonymousreply 8November 6, 2020 7:14 PM

The whole notion of "calling it" is suspect... the formal moment when the new President is elected in December 14, when the Electoral College votes. Everything before them is conventional, but not constitutional, in terms of picking the new President.

We always knew that Trump would try to challenge the election when he lost. He said so explicitly..."take it to my Supreme Court" etc. He could have lost by 30% and he'd still claim the election results were not valid.

It's a mess. He a psychopath/sociopath and there are too man Republicans who accepted that. So this was always going to happen. Joe won the election. It'll take time to get to Dec 14, and Trump and his gang will try lots more dirty tricks before then. Stay calm, stat patient. The American Democracy is purging a parasite, and it will take time.

by Anonymousreply 12November 6, 2020 7:19 PM

The networks are making excuses for not calling it. I’d imagine the Biden campaign is getting frustrated

by Anonymousreply 13November 6, 2020 7:20 PM

Apparently Mark Meadows is egging on Trump’s dementia inside the White House.

by Anonymousreply 14November 6, 2020 7:21 PM

This GA story is nuts. Just call it AP.

by Anonymousreply 15November 6, 2020 7:22 PM

I think the networks want to wait until COB today, so maybe fire Biden’s speech?

by Anonymousreply 16November 6, 2020 7:23 PM

Did the Libertarian in PA help or hurt Trump? Trying to think who she pulled votes from? If we had those 70,000 it would be done but conversely if Trump has them we'd be screwed

by Anonymousreply 17November 6, 2020 7:23 PM

Who is responsible for this (3) #16 threads debacle? I want to speak to the manager....

by Anonymousreply 18November 6, 2020 7:23 PM

There will be violence by nightfall if these networks don’t call it. The “stop the steal” shit is growing fast on Facebook.

by Anonymousreply 19November 6, 2020 7:24 PM

GOP leaders are nervously watching President Trump’s erratic handling of an election that's slipping away from him, delicately urging him and his team to clearly make a specific case about voting impropriety or accept the will of the American public.

As they watch Trump make one unfounded claim after another, Republicans are worried about the lasting ramifications from the President’s meritless barrage of attacks against a cornerstone of US democracy — especially as they gear up for two months of intense battling over two hugely consequential races in Georgia that will determine the next Senate majority.

by Anonymousreply 26November 6, 2020 7:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 27November 6, 2020 7:29 PM

[bold]Rupert Murdoch privately told Trump that he had lost — and made a similar call to McConnell: report[/bold]

As President Trump’s early lead on Election Day began to dwindle, he slowly began to realize that he could no longer rely on the support of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire, inews’ David Parsley wrote this Friday.

According to Parsley, Murdoch spoke to Trump earlier this week and told him he was set to lose the election, but Trump was having none of it.

“Privately, Mr Murdoch – formerly a friend and supporter of the President – is dismayed by Mr Trump’s inappropriate conduct since the polls closed,” Parsley writes. “The 89-year-old’s backing for the President has been scaled back substantially in recent months as concerns grew about Mr Trump’s erratic performance and handling of Covid-19.”

This Wednesday, Murdoch reportedly called Mitch McConnell and asked him and his GOP colleagues not to bolster Trump’s conspiracy theories about election fraud. McConnell apparently agreed, as evidenced by his Thursday morning comments where he said, “Claiming you’ve won the election is different from finishing the counting.”

“Other senior Republicans began to publicly question Mr Trump’s behaviour in the aftermath of the vote,” Parsley writes. “Such phone calls from Mr Murdoch and his team may help to explain why the President has struggled to find many prominent Republicans to publicly endorse his wild claims – alongside the lack of any evidence of fraud, of course.”

R5 I worked the polls in Nevada and we had a lot of provisional ballots for a lot of Californians that were voting in Nevada for the first time. Many, many did not have a Nevada license. So they came in with documents proving that they actually lived here. They were allowed to vote. But they have to get a DMV ID or license by today. Because of Covid the DMV has been closed and it’s by appointment only.

[quote]Prior to Mr Trump’s latest televised eruption, there had been vague speculation about the supposed political ambitions of his daughter, Ivanka Trump. The prospect of her ever receiving the support of Mr Murdoch and his right-wing US media assets appears slim, at this moment in time. Mr Murdoch believes Ivanka to be charming but the Trump name to be sullied beyond repair for any run at office in the foreseeable future.

This, if true, will guarantee Trump tries to launch his own network to take on Fox. The resulting GOP civil war will be delicious.

How Trumpy are the GA GOP Senate candidates? It's going to be interesting if Trump campaigns in the runoffs, or if he sulks.

by Anonymousreply 44November 6, 2020 7:56 PM

R39 and yet Murdoch still allows Hannity to go on air, bend over, and open his ass to Orange by sharing his conspiracy theories.

by Anonymousreply 46November 6, 2020 7:58 PM

The networks will call the race tonight for primetime ratings. They’ll also be calling it tonight so that we can see the Biden family act surprised when the race is called for them so that Biden can win with a lot of fanfare instead of a whimper.

Then he’ll make his speech.

by Anonymousreply 47November 6, 2020 7:59 PM

The longer these vote counts take, the more opportunities the trump goons are given to say they keep “finding Biden votes”. The networks need to grow some balls and end this misery.

by Anonymousreply 48November 6, 2020 8:00 PM

Cohn suggests networks may be waiting for PA margin to be greater than .5% (anything less triggers an automatic recount) before calling - that'd be around 35,000 votes. That makes a great deal of sense - imagine they called it, and then it went to recounts? That'd be even more agonising than this.

Postal service slowdowns in key states are suspicious:

WASHINGTON — The Postal Service has continued to struggle in the days before the election to meet its standards for on-time delivery of mail ballots despite court orders intended to speed its operations.

The percentage of ballots delivered to election officials nationwide in one to three days has hovered in the low to mid-90s in the past week. But portions of swing states like Pennsylvania and Michigan have seen significantly lower rates in the closing days of the campaign, leaving some voting rights groups concerned about ballots being mailed in time to be counted.

According to an estimate by the United States Elections Project, about 29.6 million mail-in ballots are still outstanding, although it is not clear how many of those were never sent back or reflected decisions by voters to cast their ballots in person.

Judge Emmet G. Sullivan of United States District Court for the District of Columbia ordered on Sunday evening that the Postal Service again emphasize to its work force the need for “extraordinary measures” to ensure that every possible ballot was delivered by the cutoff time on Election Day, or Monday in Louisiana.

Judge Sullivan instructed the agency to clear and process all local ballots for delivery to election officials by no later than the next morning until at least Saturday. The agency must also use its Express Mail network to expedite certain ballots.

cnt'd-

Pennsylvania, whose electoral votes could clinch a victory for either candidate, has experienced some of the most significant mail delays in the delivery of ballots. In the district covering the center of the state, daily on-time ballot delivery rates over the past 10 days have ranged from 83.28 percent to as low as 56.21 percent. The Philadelphia metropolitan area has seen better on-time delivery rates during the same period — between 78.01 and 96.7 percent — along with the Western Pennsylvania district.

The Postal Service has blamed the effects of the coronavirus and a lack of available employees for service issues in Central Pennsylvania. In a court filing on Sunday, the agency said it was moving employees to its processing plant, maximizing overtime and hiring new employees to address concerns about mail ballots.

Figures show problems in Michigan as well. Over the past week, Detroit has seen its on-time rates vary from below 50 percent to 80 percent.

In the Greater Michigan district, covering the rest of the state, the rate varied from 55 percent to 96 percent. However, in that district — as in others around the country, like in North Carolina — the Postal Service said in court documents that the figures did not include ballots that were processed in local post offices and “delivered the same day with a near 100 percent success rate.”

The agency has also argued that daily delivery rates submitted to the courts do not accurately reflect performance, as the scores fluctuate based on day and mail volume. However, a Postal Service spokesman said he could not provide weekly figures by region.

The Postal Service has blamed the pandemic and labor shortages for some of the poor rates. As coronavirus cases surge across the country, the Detroit district reported just 78 percent of its employees were available to work, while Central Pennsylvania reported 84 percent, according to a court filing on Friday.

“This has been one of the things that I’ve been really worried about this year,” said Tammy Patrick, a former Arizona elections administrator and a senior adviser at Democracy Fund, a research and advocacy group. “When you get closer and closer to Election Day, your options tend to run out.”

Keith Combs, the president of the Detroit chapter of the American Postal Workers Union, said the post office was still recovering from operational cutbacks imposed this summer by Louis DeJoy, the postmaster general, while it continued to deal with a shortage of employees.

Backups in mail delivery were better than they once were, but customers were still experiencing delays, Mr. Combs said. The Postal Service has been careful to try to shield ballots from the slowdowns, but some might slip through the cracks, he added.

Michigan and Pennsylvania are far from the only places to report problems. Lakeland, the Postal Service district that covers most of Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, has consistently fallen below the national average, along with Atlanta. The Gulf Atlantic district, which includes parts of Georgia and Florida, has also performed below the national average most days this week.

Other swing states have not experienced delays that are as widespread. Certain postal districts in Florida, including Suncoast and South Florida, have mostly had ballot delivery to election officials at rates above 90 percent this week. With the exception of Friday and Saturday, the rate of on-time mail delivery in Arizona has stayed above 97 percent.

PA was supposed to be 100K margin win for Biden. It's disappointing that this will end far below that and in a recount territory. That's the main reason this is till dragging out. GOP were smart to disqualify all late arriving ballots here. The trick worked.

I don't understand why is it ok for Alaska to wait for ballots to arrive until 10th November but not for PA!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 259November 6, 2020 11:17 PM

Trump is not coming back from this.

There is no excuse not to call it.

State E.V. Leader Margin Est. votes in

Arizona 11 Biden ✓ +38,455 90%

Georgia 16 Biden +4,224 99%

Nevada 6 Biden +22,657 87%

North Carolina 15 Trump +76,587 99%

Pennsylvania 20 Biden +16,825 98%

by Anonymousreply 261November 6, 2020 11:18 PM

Remember how last week we discussed how the internet is so right wing that we all felt outnumbered 10-1 on social sites? We wondered if we could ever win when when we see so few vocal Dem supporters on Youtube and Reddit and Twitter. Well now we know we are in a silent majority of 74 million people. Pretty cool and shows exactly who is in our camp and who is in theirs. Puts to bed forever the idea that the R is the party of the hardworking 'bootstrap' types. They are idle with too much free time to waste online and in militias and in the Q world.

by Anonymousreply 269November 6, 2020 11:23 PM

Are they really delaying calling PA, and therefore the entire election, because they're afraid of Trump and his delusional minions and what they might do over the weekend? Just call it.

by Anonymousreply 270November 6, 2020 11:25 PM

Hopefully, R268, as Mary Trump said that he will probably want to take others down with him that would only mean his Republican cohorts, so I'm hopeful for that.

by Anonymousreply 271November 6, 2020 11:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 272November 6, 2020 11:25 PM

And, once again, a call isn't going to silence those crazies. They're going to be banging the fraud drum probably for months to come.

by Anonymousreply 293November 6, 2020 11:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 294November 6, 2020 11:37 PM

PA has 200,000 ballots left. It ain’t over - even if it looks good. 100k regular absentee and 100k disputed. They said it could be all weekend. We are likely looking at next week at this rate - as the “provisional” (aka, mailed on Election Day) ballots are yet to go too. Reason to be optimistic - but not to celebrate yet.

An apologia for Clark County Nevada.

The Trump response to the Corona Virus Pandemic was a unilateral push of an unfunded mandate to the states. One of the items included in the HEROES Act was funding for elections security. This has stayed on McConnell's desk for five months.

The state of Nevada went through a legal legislative update to pandemic voting where all active voters were sent a mail-in ballot. No one supplemented Clark County's budget. The small Clark County Election Department was prohibited for processing Vote By Mail ballots until two weeks before the election date. This has proved to be insufficient.

The CCED is staffed with a small core of permanent employees and a small supplement of part-time/seasonal and volunteer workers. Because no funding was provided from the Federal government and the count time is obviously too short, leads us to the micro clusterfuck that we see in Metropolitan Las Vegas.

And PS, I wish that Clark County were renamed Las Vegas County. The worldwide travel destination known as Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Strip is actually NOT IN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS. It's in Clark County.

Previously, they could safely use previous elections as a guide to how each area would likely vote. The split between on-the-day votes, early/postal votes, and then how provisional votes would split complicates this and leads to confusion.

So you can believe one of two things. That they're being super-cautious because this is an entirely unprecedented election, and any false call will be seized upon by the president to try and smear the entire election. Or that the Associated Press and ALL of the networks are collectively in some kind of conspiracy to delay the results to benefit Trump/Biden/themselves. Protip: only one of these options results in you sounding like a QAnon believer.

by Anonymousreply 379November 7, 2020 12:30 AM

I hate the phrase "pro tip" (it's just a smarmy phrase to use, no matter the context) but other than that, I agree with R379.

by Anonymousreply 380November 7, 2020 12:33 AM

R379, that explains ONE state. And not very well since they’ve projected wins with smaller margins before.

But do go on covering for this cowardly press that still covers for that piece of shit, intentionally or otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 381November 7, 2020 12:34 AM

So Biden needs a margin of more than 33,000 in PA to avoid a recount. So presumably once it gets over 33,000 they’ll all call it.

by Anonymousreply 427November 7, 2020 12:55 AM

When the media "calls it" on a state it is just their projection. The only thing that matters is what the final actual vote count is AFTER the votes are certified which is something like 3 weeks from now. So stop bitching about the media deciding who did or didn't win. You have the same facts they have. Form your own conclusion.

by Anonymousreply 428November 7, 2020 12:55 AM

The press DOES have to be more delicate with Trump. This is a hostage situation. He has to be removed carefully and systematically, so people don’t get killed.

by Anonymousreply 429November 7, 2020 12:56 AM

R422 I don't know why you're quoting what you quoted and talking about Hillary... but I have always maintained they should have fought harder for Hillary's Presidency. They all knew the numbers were fucked up and there was tons of cheating and after 2000 and 2004 they should have recounted every last damn vote they could.

by Anonymousreply 430November 7, 2020 12:56 AM

R429, chicken or the egg. He holds everyone hostage because they let him get away with everything from the start.

by Anonymousreply 431November 7, 2020 12:57 AM

R420 Nothing. They won't start counting early and absentee votes until the 10th.

R421 You've been given the reasons, and you've given zero reasons for them to be ignored. And again NO-ONE IS SAYING THIS IS NORMAL. It's a completely unprecedented situation, hence the delay.

Christ, I can't wait to see how you behave once you realise we still have to wait for certification, and then the electoral college vote.

by Anonymousreply 432November 7, 2020 12:59 AM

R421, a bunch of Nevada isn’t counted. Anybody that knows anything about Nevada knows it’s over, but people back East apparently think it’s still red like it was thirty or forty years ago. So fine, a bunch of it isn’t counted, let it go. It will probably be Monday or Tuesday at this rate.

AZ and GA- close. AZ seems like a wild card. Plus both were red for decades, so that’s why people aren’t too sure how it’s going to turn out.

PA is going to be the closer. So they can’t get it wrong. Besides, Trump is going to want to file a lot of frivolous lawsuits in PA, so they have to cover their asses.

by Anonymousreply 433November 7, 2020 12:59 AM

They should just call all the remaining states at the same time. Trump gets NC. Biden gets AZ, NV, PA, and GA. The end.

Whoopi Goldberg said it best. If it's such a long and drawn out process, then the media should have said so at the beginning of their election broadcasts. They should also pack up shop so to speak on Wednesday and went on with their regular programming until the election results are firmly calculated and they had a clear winner.

What they did in 2000, for those who keep bringing THAT up.

Instead, they're being dishonest and turning the whole thing into a circus. Completely unprofessional. And all it's going to do is make people so bored of the whole thing that by the time Biden wins the enthusiasm level will be WAY down and a lot of people while relieved, will also be over it. And then don't come bitching and moaning on here over the lack of passion.

R444, the whole point is to wear people out so they’re resigned to their fate. They were talking about that on CNN earlier. If Trump isn’t going to concede, people need to see how the vote is going step by step. There’s always going to be some ride or die Trumpers, but many people can watch Republican officials talk about what’s going on and accept reality.

CNN has had a Republican election lawyer on to talk about the legalities several times. He has a pretty reassuring, calm demeanor.

The Secretary of State in AZ says some of the provisional ballots will end up being disqualified, so it won’t really be as many as the total says.

by Anonymousreply 494November 7, 2020 1:20 AM

Wolf just asked the Secretary of State of Arizona to predict the outcome of the provisional ballots. What a fucking idiot. He should know she can't do that. Her job is to count the votes, not forecast the outcome. Wolf has a network full of people who can make that forecast; imagine the hell that would erupt had she answered, "Oh, those ballots will likely favor Biden."

by Anonymousreply 495November 7, 2020 1:20 AM

I think a lot of people forget that most of the states that have already been called are still counting votes too. It's just their margins are definitive enough to call the states. What's upsetting to me is how close the remaining states are. The fact that so many people voted for Trump to make the margins slim is what's preventing the race from being over. I think people are misplacing anger with the counters rather than deplorable voters who deserve all the wrath

by Anonymousreply 496November 7, 2020 1:20 AM

If this election (and this year, in general) has proved anything, it's that we need more mental hospitals and to make it easier to commit people to them. We can start with the President.

He just called Trump's inner WH circle of advisors in charge of his legal strategies (Ivanka, Jared et al.) "not exactly the Algonquin Round Table, you know". lol.

by Anonymousreply 516November 7, 2020 1:28 AM

Again, both the AP and Fox called AZ for Biden on election night for a reason and they are NOT in the business of making mistakes. This is not a guessing game. They know that there is zero chance for Trump to catch up (barring some sort of late game cheating fiasco - which I always fear with the scum bag GOP). Biden will win all of them - AZ, NV, PA and GA. GA will try to cheat like Hell with the recount though - Biden/Harris attorneys need to be there every step of the way and watch them like hawks. Racism reaches a whole different level in the long-standing GOP controlled state of Georgia than many of you can imagine. I know well as half of my very racist, white, elitist family lives there and they are all well-educated so one would assume that they would know better than to hold on to such vile, archaic beliefs. Also being nut job Evangelicals just makes them that much more nauseating.

200,000 votes left in PA. Would people stop saying it should be called now? It would be irresponsible and counter productive to call it. Personally I hope it’s at 99.9% for the remaining states. Let there be no question. No one is saying Trump won. The first thing Biden needs to do is emphasize the difference in leadership - truth and facts rather than lies and deceit.
