Any Other Gaymers On DL? - Thread 2

I searched for the original thread but it looks it's been archived or something. Was almost full anyway so I decided to start another one.

I think I'm going to preorder Cyberpunk 2077. Apparently you can play as a gay male--the developers had a guy get out of the main character's bed when they were showing a preview at a convention. I'm a fan of games like Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Shadowrun so I think that this will be a good one. Oh, and Keanu Reeves is in it for some reason.

Has anyone tried Shiness?

by Anonymousreply 4September 13, 2020 1:35 PM

R44 what's shiness? Also looking forward to cyberpunk. Wonder if my PC will even handle it.

by Anonymousreply 5September 13, 2020 1:50 PM

This is Shiness. I think it's the first time that this company has released a legit game so it's slightly wonky but pretty good so far. Battle system needs work though.

R6 That looks cool! I love the graphic style. Is this also on PC? I am PC Masterrace--oh I have a switch I guess

On sale on Steam and super cheap, R7.

by Anonymousreply 8September 14, 2020 2:11 AM

Here! I'm looking forward to Watchdogs Legion and Cyberpunk

by Anonymousreply 9September 14, 2020 3:50 AM

Did anyone play Greedfall from last year? I’m jonesing for a Dragon Age-style RPG and this seems like it’d fit the bill.

by Anonymousreply 10September 14, 2020 5:11 AM

I would be excited for Cyberpunk if it wasn't forced first person perspective. I will never understand why game devs do these super involved character creation systems with umpteen millions face, hair, body type, clothing and etc choices just to turn around and force you to play in first person mode aside from cutscenes. Just makes no sense to me.

Currently I've been playing the hell out of Marvel's Avengers. It's buggy af, crashes an insane amout and has a severe memory leak issue, but when it works it's amazingly fun.

As for games coming out in the future I'm excited about maybe some of you 90s gamers would rememeber Baulder's Gate 1 and 2. Well Larian Studios (makers of Divinity Original Sin 1&2) are actually releasing the early access for the 3rd title in the series on the 30th of September. Price is 59.99$ which will go up to the full 79.99$ price tag next year when the game fully releases. It comes out for testing with about 20 hours of content and you can go up to lvl 4 which works out to be about 25% or so of the total content in the game. Larian has done such a phenomal job and the head guy named Swen Vincke is actually a delight. He always seems so excited for the games they make and they're as a company really pushing new ideas into what turn based RPGs are supposed to be. I really really hope a few of you look into it and pick it up cause that gaming studio really deserves their positive reputation.

[R10] I did, actually totally hated it. The combat tries to be like Dark Souls but you only get like 3-4 abilities per "class" for the entire game. Mages are basically just auto attacks until half way ine before they get some form of decent castable spells, but one cast takes like half your mp so you can only use one or two spells before having to either eat a potion or default back to magic missle auto attacks. The voice acting is completely mediocre and they really hand wave over the whole natives being wiped out by white settlers thing. If you want a game similar but with a much better story, better combat and much better voice acting I'd personally suggest Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on Steam. A far superior gaming experience and way more fun when you can actually climb onto gigantic monsters and stab them in the eyeball.

by Anonymousreply 11September 14, 2020 11:38 AM

[quote] are actually releasing the early access for the 3rd title in the series on the 30th of September.

Monopoly?

by Anonymousreply 14September 15, 2020 11:44 AM

Do we have thoughts about the PS5 vs the Series X/S now that we know dates and prices?

I was actually thinking dipping a toe back into Xbox world because the Series S has such a good price, but it's significantly underpowered and has a hard drive that's half the size of the others, which is important when your games are...you know, digital. By comparison, the extra $100 for the PS5 Digital buys you the exact same console as the one with the drive.

I don't think I'll ever pre-order a game again, so the lack of a system seller on either console will have me waiting.

by Anonymousreply 15September 20, 2020 1:57 PM

599$ for the base model PS5 iirc. Think they're going to plan for a holiday launch, right now people aren't spending as much money... except during the x-mas season. Sony are gunna want that sweet sweet holiday cash

I would just fork over a few extra hundreds and buy a decent gaming PC rig. Besides a handful of exclusives most games launched will come out for PC which has better performance, loading times and graphic settings.

by Anonymousreply 16September 22, 2020 6:38 PM

Well shit. The only games my basic self plays are Fallout, Elder Scrolls and, er, King's Bounty and Bethesda is being sold to Microsoft.

I only play on my Alienware laptop, so no console wars for me.

$499. Same as Series X. PS5 Digital is $399, Series S is $299.

by Anonymousreply 18September 22, 2020 7:17 PM

I'm still going to obtain a PS5. XBox's OS is junky and buggy.

Given the number of losers on DL, this thread should hit 500 by the end of the day.

by Anonymousreply 24December 16, 2020 1:44 PM

I've been playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning FATE edition and loving it. With the ability to use a primary and secondary weapon at all times, I think it's my favorite combat of any game I've played. If you like Dragon Age and The Witcher, you'll like Kingdoms of Amalur.

by Anonymousreply 25December 16, 2020 2:00 PM

After playing Cyberpunk for a few hours I realized I'm not into it at all. That's probably mostly to do with Days Gone which I've now played close to 30 hours. Days Gone, a zombie game starring Sam Witwer as a biker guy looking for his lost wife is not the deepest game out there but still next to it Cyberpunk feels extremely superficial.

I've been playing Cyberpunk on PS4 and even though I haven't noticed bugs many others have. IGN gave PS4/Xbox One version a crushing 4/10 score and after reading the review I realized what's the point of paying a full price for this crap. I asked Sony for a refund although I doubt they'll give it. If they do I might pre-order Mass Effect: Legendary Edition.

If they refund me I'll probably get Cyberpunk again at some later point when it's hopefully finally finished, and will cost a fraction it does now.

by Anonymousreply 26December 16, 2020 7:09 PM

I sympathize, R21. They seem to have really botched the console versions of the game. I play CP77 on a high-end PC (with graphics maxed, albeit on 1080p), and it works like a charm. There are some very minor glitches and bugs, but nothing worse than many other similar games.

by Anonymousreply 27December 16, 2020 8:18 PM

R24 not sure why you seem to triggered and unpleasant - did a guy you were dating pay more attention to a game than to you or something?

I'm really looking forward to playing Cyberpunk 2077, but PROPERLY - I don't have the new Xbox yet and the Xbox One version is pretty unplayable by all accounts at the moment and isn't likely to be patched sufficiently until February. I'd rather wait a bit longer and play it 'right' than have a sub-standard initial experience.

I've got a backlog of stuff to play through anyway, and aim to spend a lot of the Christmas break catching up!

by Anonymousreply 28December 17, 2020 9:20 AM

Sony and Microsoft are now offering refunds for Cyberpunk 2077 bought at their stores. Great news. I have yet to receive mind but Sony certainly made requesting the refund extremely simple. You just have to log in to your account on a Playstation Store web page and press one button.

Big fan of EU 4

by Anonymousreply 30December 19, 2020 12:18 AM

R23 MARY!!! I’m a lady and didn’t realize Cyberpunk goes full naked customizable body—that’s bordering on pornographic. Is that the same for a female protagonist?

by Anonymousreply 31December 19, 2020 12:37 AM

Big into Borderlands 3 - just got the year 2 season pass. Still playing year one content.

by Anonymousreply 32December 19, 2020 12:40 AM

Gaymers, any co-op couples? I have an Xbox one and we are sadly low on couch co-op games for Xbox and switches. My spouse and I used to do a ton of stuff together on the 360 (Lord of the rings war in the north, Diablo 3, Dungeon Siege 2, Sacred 3, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, etc.—we bought every 360 co-op campaign game we could find).

Are there any great Xbox One couch co-op campaign games or great Switch couch co-op campaign games out there?

by Anonymousreply 33December 19, 2020 12:42 AM

I've been busy with AC:Valhalla since before Thanksgiving. I don't know how game reviewers can get off claiming that this came is like 30 hours of gameplay. I've already put in 130, and I'm only 65% done. I won't finish before the end of the year at this rate.

by Anonymousreply 34December 19, 2020 12:47 AM

Anyone here played Bloodstained it's an homage to the old school side-scrolling Castlevania games only with modern graphics.

by Anonymousreply 35December 19, 2020 12:56 AM

by Anonymousreply 36December 19, 2020 1:00 AM

Refunds for Cyberpunk?

...do you still get to keep it?

It's not /that/ bad. It is reallllly buggy though on ps4.

by Anonymousreply 37December 19, 2020 1:31 AM

R31, yes.

by Anonymousreply 38December 19, 2020 1:59 AM

R31, you can deactivate nudity completely.

Besides, even if you have activated nudity, in the vanilla game, V will wear underwear; so the nudity is only visible during character creation and in the inventory menu.

I'm using a mod to remove the underwear. This way, V can be nude in the photo mode. In first person view, he's still a Ken doll however, at least until modders will have figured out how to re-add the first-person penis.

(I'm also waiting for modders to create a 'Schlongs of Night City' mod...)

by Anonymousreply 39December 19, 2020 2:11 AM

I have an NES and N64 emulator installed on my PC and a bunch of the old Nintendo games. Plus have Steam installed with Bioshock and Bioshock II and Fallout IV.

by Anonymousreply 40December 19, 2020 2:26 AM

AC:Odyssey had tons of opportunities for hot man-on-man action (sex, romance... all very PG-13, no nudity or anything, but still, lots of flirting and making out, and suggestive dialog).

AC:Valhalla has almost no such opportunities. In over 130 hours of play, I've only found one... my male main character hooked up with a male character after a wedding. There was one other opportunity, but the guy was already a member of a gay relationship and wasn't interested in playing around. And it was all closeted/subtle, such that if you weren't trying for gay action you probably could have completely missed it.

by Anonymousreply 41December 20, 2020 3:48 AM

Too bad Cyberpunk 2077 was so janky it had a character creator that let you choose Everything.

by Anonymousreply 42December 20, 2020 5:29 AM

Me too r30, although I admit I'm getting a little tired of it. Haven't tried any of the other paradox games. I'm wondering about Crusader Kings, or maybe Imperator.

by Anonymousreply 43December 20, 2020 9:45 PM

Playing AC:Valhalla, finally in the end-game, and FINALLY got another hot male-on-male action opportunity. TWO of them in the same hour! For a total of three so far.

REPRESENTATION MATTERS!

by Anonymousreply 44December 23, 2020 4:37 AM

So, nobody else playing AC:Valhalla?

It's certainly less buggy than Cyberpunk 2077.

by Anonymousreply 45December 25, 2020 4:57 AM

I actully only now finally managed to start playing Assassins's Creed Odyssey. TBH there's nothing about Valhalla that seems interesting, mostly because the whole viking thing has been done to death over the years. Odyssey got great reviews and seems to have some gay content so I finally bought it from a sale. I've been wondering if I should get the season pass as well since it's on sale for half price now.

I'm still playing Days Gone after giving up on Cyberpunk (and still waiting for Sony to refund me). I also started playing Red Dead Redemption 2 a few weeks back and the story seems well written but I'm not feeling it at the moment since I'm more into zombies and riding motorbikes in a dystopian near future.

by Anonymousreply 47December 25, 2020 8:43 AM

Nine years later and I'm still (only) playing Skyrim on a PS3.

Maybe I should get a new console and a new game, haha

by Anonymousreply 48December 25, 2020 11:26 AM

r45 I'm playing it. The story and pacing is a lot better than Odyssey. Though it's still taking me forever to get through everything. Poor Sigurd has been locked up being tortured for weeks while I run around emptying chests and chasing tattoo designs over rooftops.

by Anonymousreply 49December 25, 2020 12:01 PM

I just finished Watchdog Legion which is AMAZING. Spiderman: Miles Morales is also a great game that's too short. Currently, playing Cyberpunk but not particularly jazzed about it. It's definitely something that I would normally get into but there's a lot going on and I'm just not really feeling it. I still haven't finished Last of US part 2 and can't explain why.

by Anonymousreply 50December 25, 2020 12:19 PM

R48 haha! I hear you, I go back and play Skyrim once in awhile but I hate the ending. I’m a bigger fan of the Dragon Age series and Mass Effects—love going back and playing those! Just finished DA Inquisition for the 3rd or 4th time, actually.

by Anonymousreply 51December 25, 2020 6:02 PM

Skyrim on Xbox One (with the enhanced special edition) is great. The loading screens are SO much shorter.

I just finished AC:Valhalla, the main story anyway. I still have weeks of stuff to finish though. No spoilers, but the AC:V ending is.... ugh.

by Anonymousreply 55December 26, 2020 12:44 PM

I've been obsessed with Hades for the past couple weeks. Bisexual Zagreus is so sweet and adorable. And I love the numerous gay/bi characters in the world (Achilles, Patroclus, Thanatos). Everyone being supportive of the player character being in a mlm relationship is wonderful.

Gameplay, characters, art, music, level design...everything is awesome.

by Anonymousreply 56January 25, 2021 9:48 AM

I only play racing games on my phone

by Anonymousreply 57January 25, 2021 9:54 AM

r33, check out Sea Of Thieves. Been playing that one with a friend almost every night since the pandemic started. It's great fun. You can be crew mates on a pirate ship and you go look for treasure, battle skeleton pirates and other players and the graphics are amazing. There are things that happen like getting attacked by a Megalodon or ghost pirate ships or a kraken. You can also do Tale Tales which are fun and have you running around following a bit of a story. We both became Pirate Legends after about 6 months of playing which just means we unlocked other aspects of the game. Fun game and challenging.

by Anonymousreply 58January 25, 2021 10:14 AM

I've been trying to find something big to play while waiting for Mass Effect Legendary Ediiton but none of the games I try feel just right for the moment. I did however start playing Housemarque's Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition, an isometric shoot'em up, and I love it. This is pure game play. I usually go for RPGs so this change of pace feels great... until I start replaying Mass Effect.

by Anonymousreply 59January 26, 2021 6:32 PM

R59 Have you done BioWare’s Dragon Age series? If you like isometric RPGs and play on PC, you might try Divine Divinity—I really enjoyed that one.

I just played The Witcher 3 this year and this game really raised the bar for RPGs with the array of activities and quests, as well as the Gwent card game. I hope BioWare takes notes from it and creates a big adventure game with a similar formula but with LGBT character options. BioWare will have to raise the bar to compete now.

by Anonymousreply 60January 26, 2021 7:47 PM

They are saying Outward is good I just downloaded it for my PS4 but you need to buy a PlayStation Plus membership to play co-op.

by Anonymousreply 61January 26, 2021 9:33 PM

I'm annoyed Far Cry 6 is delayed until May. I'm finding myself between open world games having just finished AC:Valhalla.

by Anonymousreply 62January 30, 2021 7:37 PM

I was planning on buying the Mass Effect Legendary Edition but couldn't wait the release and decided to boot up my trusty old PS3 and start replaying Mass Effect 1 from the start after a few years. Well, that was a good choice since I realized there isn't much that game can give me anymore. They have upgraded the graphics in the Legendary Edition but the game play itself remains the same.

by Anonymousreply 63February 28, 2021 7:00 AM

Next to the updated visuals, ME Legendary Edition is supposed to have some game play changes, mostly quality of life stuff: updated Mako's controls, skippable elevator rides, weapon balancing, AI enhancements, boss fight rebalancing, dedicated melee button in ME1, cover system in ME1, ...

by Anonymousreply 64February 28, 2021 7:10 AM

Yes but the core game remains the same. I've played the first one through two times and the other ones three times. The first one especially doesn't have a huge replay value since the long drives on the planets feel like tedious grinding and everything about the game feels hugely dated, and that includes the storytelling. The reality is the story is awesome but emotionally it's only truly touching the first time. I mean seriously, the first time I finished the trilogy the effect was as strong as after watching Brokeback Mountain the first time, a huge punch to the gut. I got depressed for a week after finishing the game, and that was the only time any piece of entertainment has ever affected me that much.

I'm glad they're bringing out the updated version because that way so many new gamers will get to experience the awesomeness Mass Effect is.

by Anonymousreply 65February 28, 2021 6:33 PM

You couldn't do male-male romances in the first few games, and they didn't change that in the update.

by Anonymousreply 66February 28, 2021 6:52 PM

Playing The Division 2 with some friends. Never played The Division 1 though. It's a very complex game, but it can be pretty fun.

by Anonymousreply 67March 1, 2021 5:48 AM

I really want to play Baldur's Gate 3 but I don't think my current laptop can handle it, plus it's still early access at the moment and I'd rather wait for it to be finished. I really loved Divinity Original Sin 2, but even that on my laptop was struggling. I don't have any other incentive to get a new laptop at the moment so just sticking with Xbox One for the time being until I can get hold of Xbox Series X.

by Anonymousreply 68March 1, 2021 1:24 PM

R68, I've played through the early access of BG3, before the last two patches. The game's going to be really great, but at the moment it's just frustrating to see all that potential without being able to play all classes (they just added the druid, but there are still several missing), to progress past level 4, or to continue the story after the first act.

My recommendation is definitely to wait until its full release. Less frustration this way.

by Anonymousreply 69March 1, 2021 1:52 PM

Not sure if there are any Dragon Age fans here, but I just played the Trespasser DLC and was disappointed. Yes, there is a major plot point, but the game was just a lot of running around killing enemies and finding eluvians at the same time for a few hours before beating it. I am not happy about how things go with Solas, but that’s forgivable if there was more content to the DLC. I was hoping there’d be a new open area to explore and even some new gear to make rather than the eluvians in a fade-like place with the same gear and weapons you had before other than the anchor.

by Anonymousreply 70March 1, 2021 5:35 PM

I loved Trespasser, but it was mostly because it gave some closure to the whole story arc, included some juicy bits of lore, and I really loved the music. However, I agree that it was weak with regard to visuals and gameplay.

Also, although I loved Solas' explanation about his past the Evanuris, I feel that it somewhat undermined one of the setting's strength: the uncertainty of religions in Thedas. A lot of the conflict in the setting is driven by religious dogma about the nature of the Maker, about the fade, spirits and magic. Even in DA:O, when the Warden found Andraste's grave in the Frostback Mountains, the nature of Andraste and her backstory were kept mostly mysterious. Solas outright explaining what the Evanuris are and how the world came to be the way it is, was taking away a lot of this uncertainty.

by Anonymousreply 71March 1, 2021 6:51 PM

I got Cyberpunk 2077 from the Steam store for my birthday

by Anonymousreply 72March 3, 2021 3:36 PM

Is Dragon Age: Inquisition good?

by Anonymousreply 73March 3, 2021 4:23 PM

R73 YES! Loved it—one of my top favorite video games ever.

by Anonymousreply 74March 4, 2021 4:34 AM

R73, it's good but I got burned out by the gigantic (sometimes pretty empty) maps and all the collectibles quests eventually. My advice is, forget a completionist approach with regard to the in-game collectibles (they're really not worth it) and play mainly for the story.

I would rate the Dragon Age games as follows: DA:O > DA:I > DA2

I think I played through DA:0 at least 5 times, whereas I never managed to finish a 2nd playthrough of DA2 and never even tried one with DA:I.

by Anonymousreply 75March 4, 2021 5:32 AM

Really weirdly with Dragon Age Inquisition, although I had the previous games and finished them, I never got fully into Inquisition the first time around - I think I probably played maybe 20 hours or something. Noticed it was available through the EA Game Pass deal on Xbox and downloaded it recently and put a few hours in but again didn't get fully into it. Maybe I will return to it at some point but it is odd that something that I would have thought I would get obsessed with, I have tried and failed twice to actually get into.

by Anonymousreply 76March 4, 2021 9:24 AM

DA: Inquisition was on sale for the PS4 about a year ago along with all the expansion packs so I bought it then but still haven't played it.

by Anonymousreply 77March 4, 2021 12:09 PM

For DA: Inquisition I found that advancing the main plot and doing the fade quests helped me get into the game more, as well as romancing one of the characters and doing the side quests for each of your party members. Otherwise you’re just grinding in the open areas and collecting ingredients for gear. I also really enjoy upgrading my gear and that of my party up at Skyhold.

by Anonymousreply 78March 4, 2021 4:22 PM

R76, that happened to me with BioShock.

That game is, on paper, tailor made for me. I should love it. But I didn't. Years after the first attempt (where I just petered out after several hours), I tried again, and petered out right about the same place. Just couldn't get into it, but cannot tell you why.

by Anonymousreply 79March 4, 2021 4:49 PM

Funnily enough I spent close to 200 hours both in Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect Andromeda although I can't say I really love them. Playing them was satisfying, partly because they both looked gorgeous on my PS4, but largely because I enjoyed the well-developed world and gripping enough story both offered.

I did have an emotional connection with DA:I and even shed some tears a few hours into the campaign when there's singing.

by Anonymousreply 80March 4, 2021 10:31 PM

R80 I did love the part where the inquisitor emerges from the snow and the camp of survivors sings the theme song—very touching! I also oooed small touches like cutscenes of the party playing cards and at the end, getting to check in with all of your friends before the final cutscene. BioWare did that right with the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises—you really felt a connection to some of the characters after enough chats and going on missions/quests.

by Anonymousreply 81March 5, 2021 6:38 AM

Set aside cash for the PS5. Now I just have to wait for one to finally be available.

by Anonymousreply 82March 6, 2021 11:48 PM

I'm a huge fan of the Borderlands series. I find them endlessly clever, fun, and replayable. Brilliant, really.

by Anonymousreply 83March 7, 2021 12:53 AM

R83, too bad Borderlands 3 shit the bed... the story was such crap. Totally awful. And some of the new characters were really, really awful.

Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel were all amazingly good, with amazingly great DLC.

Borderlands 3 was pretty bad, and with mostly awful DLC.

by Anonymousreply 84March 7, 2021 1:47 AM

Sorry to hear that, R84. I haven't played Borderlands 3 yet.

by Anonymousreply 85March 7, 2021 5:31 AM

I'm still surprised how much I'm enjoying Days Gone. I initially played it for like 15 hours when it was on Playstation Now but had to stop when it left the service. I thought ok, that was that, time to move on since I'm not buying the game for practically the full price but fairly soon I started missing driving around on a motorcycle and generally everything else you do in the game. When I found the game on sale I immediately bought it and have now spent probably around 50 hours on it.

I'm only now getting into killing zombie hordes which are one of the scariest things I've encountered in any games I've played. There's something exhilarating having like 200 zombies crazily run after you making angry and inhuman sounds and immediately overpowering you the moment they catch you. I managed to destroy my first horde a few days back and although it was slightly anti-climactic since I did it safely from a distance hiding in a bush it still felt wonderful.

I've still got story missions to finish and probably at least 20 hours to play but I'm taking my time, just enjoying everything. I rarely find games I truly love spending time in but when I do I try to savor the experience.

Sam Witwer is awesome as the lead. Never really realized how good he is with his voice and how enjoyable it is to hear it.

Journey To The Savage Planet is on Xbox Game Pass so I gave it a spin, and it's actually pretty fun. Amusing, and a 3-d open-ish-world platformer, basically. Relatively short, but fun.

I have the complete Sims 4 on my PS4 but I'm thinking of buying it again on PC because I want all the weird and super slutty mods.

by Anonymousreply 88March 7, 2021 6:05 PM

The WickedWhims mod for Sims 4 is great. Sims 4 is rather boring in comparison to previous versions, so you can see your sims porn it up at least.

by Anonymousreply 89March 7, 2021 6:07 PM

Yeah, It seems like with each new Sims base game they give you less and less, Sims 1 and 2 gave you a completely populated home map, now everything is an expansion pack. I tried downloading Wicked Whims but when I click the download button nothing happens.

by Anonymousreply 96March 7, 2021 6:54 PM

Great, have fun Just! Just remember to also download some animation files.

by Anonymousreply 97March 7, 2021 7:00 PM

Which animation files do you recommend R97 and can they be downloaded from the same site that finally let me download Wicked Whims?

by Anonymousreply 98March 7, 2021 9:48 PM

What does Wicked Whims do on its own without the other animations? Have you been a Sims player for very long R97?

by Anonymousreply 99March 8, 2021 12:39 AM

I have downloaded all animations, R99, so I don't know the exact differences. Only some animation packs include explicitly gay sex animations (although you can switch off gender restrictions in Wicked Whims and it often works fine), so you have to check yourself. Most animators post their packs on LoversLab as far as I know.

Oh, I've never been a hardcore Sims gamer, but I started with the first Sims game and I played every main version so far. It's been a long time though, so I'm not good at keeping the versions apart but, yeah, Sims 4 and its business model / releases are... frustrating, to say the least.

by Anonymousreply 100March 8, 2021 6:39 AM

I haven't tried installing Wicked Whims yet but if I can't download the animations at nexusmods then it sounds like Wicked Whims is pretty useless.

by Anonymousreply 101March 8, 2021 7:44 PM

Mary, R101, don't be so defeatist! Just try it out, the mod does come with some animations as far as I know! :)

Besides, as I wrote, most animations are available on LoversLabs which has its own download section that always worked fine for me.

by Anonymousreply 102March 9, 2021 4:37 AM

I was able to download all of the animations available now I just need to find instructions on how to install everything. I really miss Filemaid, I wonder if someone could find that guy and convince him to make it for Sims 4, just for old times sake.

Has anyone ever heard of Greedfall on Xbox one? I just started it.

by Anonymousreply 109March 19, 2021 12:38 PM

I finished Greefall (on the PC). It's good, I guess. I loved the setting and the 17th century style, it even had prettier male models for the player character than female ones. My main impression was that the game definitely had great potential but, despite aiming for quality of Bioware classics like Dragon Age, it fell a bit short in the end.

I think Vasco was the only male same-sex romance option in the game, but I used a mod that allowed me to romance both Vasco and Kurt (or maybe all four of them? I can't remember which says a lot about the game...).

by Anonymousreply 110March 19, 2021 12:52 PM

R110 interesting! I also find the setting refreshing, but at times it does feel like some of the character development is missing or half-baked with your party members, at least, so far in the game (very few dialogue options with them). But I’m only 15 hours in or so and have only begun completing parts of quests for some of my party members.

by Anonymousreply 111March 19, 2021 11:30 PM

I've been getting back into Assassin's Creed Odyssey lately. Such a huge game that I never even came close to finishing everything on the map in my first playthrough, though I did complete the main story. It's without a doubt the most gorgeous game I've ever played, scenery-wise. And Alexios is a tasty morsel with lovably campy voice acting.

by Anonymousreply 112March 31, 2021 11:13 PM

I'm currently playing The Sims 4 but it's annoying the way EA has divided pretty much everything that would have come with the older games into expansion packs.

by Anonymousreply 115April 12, 2021 3:08 AM

So many great game suggestions. I'm not too much of a gamer, I was gifted an Xbox Series S by my best friend so here I am. Gamer once again! I also work in a certain level of live streaming but not gaming. Creative arts.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is such a better value than most subscription services. Roughly $9k worth of games for $15 a month, possibly free with doing Microsoft Rewards offers? I don't mind paying for it, but getting the console for free definitely sweetens the deal. The Series S is a perfect console for my gaming preferences, as I am extremely casual with game playing. I use my Xbox more for the Microsoft Rewards stuff more than anything. I am also a heavy Discord user.

by Anonymousreply 124May 7, 2021 12:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 129May 19, 2021 4:31 PM

R124 I just finished Greedfall, myself! I was a bit disappointed that there weren't many interactions between party members, but overall, I did like the unique setting and the storyline. I do think it was a bit hard to be able to romance certain characters (a woman romancing Siora was tricky--you had to answer in a way that didn't make sense in the moment or else you wouldn't get to romance her). I think they have room to grow, but I hope they put out more games.

Anyone know when the next Dragon Age will be out? It has now been 7 years since Inquisition. I wish Bioware had a big enough team to tackle Mass Effect and Dragon Age at the same time-really annoying that they pulled in the Dragon Age team for the Mass Effect Andromeda rollout and basically put the project on hold for awhile.

by Anonymousreply 130May 20, 2021 4:50 PM

R130, if I remember correctly they pretty much seemed to have started from the scratch a year or two ago with the new Dragon Age. I remember reading speculation from the game press that we shouldn't expect anything in maybe 3 to 4 years. Bioware has been a total mess for quite some time and all the time they wasted on Anthem when they could've been making Dragon Age 4 is just heart breaking.

by Anonymousreply 131May 20, 2021 4:56 PM

Really loved "Outriders" personally (though the story is... DARK). Not any gay content, really. But it's a fun game.

[quote] Dragon Age 4 doesn't have an official release date yet but is probably coming out next year or in 2023.

[italic] "We do know that it's likely still quite a ways off. In August 2020, then general manager Casey Hudson described Dragon Age 4 as still in "early production". [/italic] (pcgamer)

That was only 10 months ago. AAA games can take easily 4-5 years to perfect. Dragon Age 2 is notorious in the gaming world for its rushed production and I very much doubt Bioware would risk to go through the same disaster again. Although with Bioware being what it is these days anything is possible.

That said I'm sure they've tons of assets created earlier they can reuse, and it's quite possible they've achieved more than they're publically saying. Inquisition was so rich with all kinds of gorgeous material from various artists that I'm sure they left a lot of it unused at that time. But the reality is Anthem was supposed to be their Destiny-like money maker and they poured practically all their resources on creating and maintaining it. There was little time left for anything else, or at least that's what I remember from an article. I do feel sorry for their workers who spent all that time creating a failure.

by Anonymousreply 137May 23, 2021 5:47 AM

Bioware better get their shit together. They need a success before they disappear into oblivion completely.

by Anonymousreply 138May 23, 2021 10:03 AM

r122 I know it was a remaster rather than a remake but I wish they'd redone it enough so you can start Kaidans gay relationship in the first game. I hadn't really realised when I first played back then how unsatisfying the start of the romance with him actually is in 3.

by Anonymousreply 139June 10, 2021 3:57 PM

The AC: Valhalla DLC in Ireland has ZERO opportunities for a male character to romance another male. But plenty for a male to romance a female. This was very annoying.

by Anonymousreply 140June 10, 2021 4:04 PM

I want Saints Row 5 so bad. I wanna make some hot, muscular, hung characters to play with already. I wonder if there will be romance/sex options.

I played Nioh 2 for the first three months of the year, finishing the third DLC, then just doing co-op, helping other people. It was great, and I made the hottest character I’ve ever designed in a game.

Then I played Marvel’s Avengers on PS Now. I had its good points, but the game got incredibly tedious. I’m definitely opposed to the whole ‘live-service’ concept.

I’ve started replaying Horizon Zero Dawn, then I’m replaying God of War and Spider-Man. I love my Sony exclusives. I played Days Gone last year and loved it. Highly recommended, and I don’t even like zombies.

R147 The only one I can think of is Assassin's Creed 2. Its set in Florence, Italy.

by Anonymousreply 148June 19, 2021 9:39 PM

And AC: Brotherhood, the sequel. Set in Rome a few years later.

The relationship between Ezio and his gay best friend Leonardo da Vinci is nice in those games.

No real LGBT content though.

Does anyone like strategy games such as XCOM and Darkest Dungeon?

by Anonymousreply 151June 21, 2021 11:19 PM

I hate first-person shooters. A short term fling guy I knew basically dedicated his life to both sex and Hunt:Showdown. He was kinda cute and a decent pp, but pretty much a pass in terms of personality. Long story.

I met another guy this past Spring that was devoutly into Escape from Tarkov. This game turns the most kindred of souls into only obsessives for this shitty game. Even my best friend of six years is obsessed with it. I can’t aim a video game gun worth a shit so it’s no fun. I grew up on Mario, not this gun and violence-laden poppycock.

by Anonymousreply 152June 22, 2021 1:13 AM

R152, when I was still gaming on a pc I loved playing Unreal Tournament. It's an exhilarating experience to kill or be killed when done correctly. In my case that meant short (max 30 to 40 minutes) matches once or twice a day on maps I loved. However after I dedicated my pc for work and started playing only on Playstation I lost interest in pure fps games, mostly because playing them on a console seems tedious. I do love games like Control which are a bit fps like but still have something else to them.

Unreal Tournament matches were a sort of like drug that I started missing more and more. When I noticed I'd rather just play than work and study I realized it was becoming an issue. That's when I moved to console playing since I needed to separate it totally from my work. Playing on a console has never become a problem the way Unreal Tournament on a pc was. Quite frankly I'm now sad I so rarely find games I truly WANT to play since I need the release after work. The past few years there have only been a handful games I've fallen in love with, like Control and more lately Days Gone which somehow suited my life situation perfectly. The Mass Effect trilogy is still my number one gaming experience and I'm still pondering whether to buy the Legendary Edition. I'll possibly wait until I get either a PS5 or an Xbox Series X. I've played the trilogy through three times on a PS3 and each time the experience was more diluted. I'm afraid I end up disliking that world totally.

Still, I understand why you are pissed with your friends and loved ones playing too much fps's. It truly is like using drugs since you get such an adrenaline rush from playing. You really become the person wielding a weapon. It's gorgeous and scary at the same time. In itself there's nothing wrong with enjoying playing immensely but it obviously becomes an issue when you lose control of the situation.

by Anonymousreply 153June 22, 2021 2:27 PM

R153 I didn’t really understand video game addiction or why they called Warcraft “Warcrack” until I played it myself one summer. I remember playing daily and getting pissed off every time they shut down the server for updates. I realized I couldn’t sustain a normal life that way and stopped playing. Another factor was that once you got to a certain level, it got harder to level up and the world was less exciting. That was for the best.

by Anonymousreply 157June 23, 2021 1:41 AM

r147 Not so much the renaissance as it is the tail end of the late middle ages (In modern terms about 50 years and 200 miles). But I recommend Kingdom Come: Deliverance for how immersive in the period it is.

If the GTA, Elder Scrolls, Red Dead Redemption, and Fallout series are my favorite, which other games might I enjoy (since the greedy fuckers at Rockstar and Bethesda have opted to focus on online cash grabs)?

I've had Witcher 3 and Far Cry 3 recommended to me, but Witcher 3 just didn't resonate with me and I quit less than halfway through the game (I've actually quit playing it several times over the course of 4 years....last year I quit for good). Far Cry 3 had a cool story, but the ability to interact with other characters and the larger world was severely limited. Basically, all you could do was drive shitty cars and kill enemies.

I've never been able to get into Witcher 3. No idea why. On paper, it should be my kind of game (I love love love Skyrim). But it's just boring and kinda sucks. And the controls are stupid.

I really enjoyed "Outriders" even though it's not my normal kind of game.

by Anonymousreply 165July 26, 2021 7:43 PM

What about games like Dead Island or Dying Light, R163? They are also open world games, unless you despise zombie genre. I've not played Dying Light but Dead Island was so fun. It's very sinister and charming at the same time living through a zombie apocalypse in a hot and sunny island resort. The contrast of a beautiful vacation island lined by blue ocean and sky and the gritty gory horrors of zombie mess was like the salt and sweet combination of a junk food & drinks order.

by Anonymousreply 166July 26, 2021 7:53 PM

Hear hear. I've tried three times to play the damn game because it's supposedly so awesome but it's so fucking boring that I always end up quitting after an hour or two. I guess it's finally time to say the final goodbye.

by Anonymousreply 167July 26, 2021 11:10 PM

All my friends say "Witcher 3" is the best game they've ever played, and they loved it. It's so tedious and boring. We mostly agree on other games, so I'm constantly wondering what the fuck I'm missing with this game. I've started it three times, and bailed on it three times after only a dozen hours or so. I just can't get into it. It's terrible.

by Anonymousreply 168July 27, 2021 2:50 PM

Netflix is developing a Dragon Age TV show. According to IGN it's probably a live action show and not an animation. Not sure how I feel about this.

by Anonymousreply 169July 28, 2021 6:28 AM

Witcher 3 non-fans, I’m surprised you found it tedious and boring. The learning curve for gameplay was ROUGH for me and took several hours to really understand combat and horse riding and Gwent. But I started loving the quest variety and gear upgrades, as well as decisions you get to make. I liken it to a Skyrim with a better ending, wider range of activities to do + the romance storyline and moral choices of BioWare games (not same sex romance, which is a bummer though).

I found Zelda Breath of the Wild to be boring as HELL though…running around finding shrines 90% of the game. So if you also loved that game, then we will never agree on games.

I’d give Witcher another chance if you haven’t put in more than a few hours. If you’ve put in 30 or more, then you probably won’t ever like it.

by Anonymousreply 170July 28, 2021 6:32 AM

by Anonymousreply 171July 28, 2021 6:38 AM

Is anybody care looking forward to playing Horizon Forbidden West? It’s the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. It’s expected to come out late 2021.

by Anonymousreply 172July 28, 2021 6:44 AM

R170, it's possible CD Projekt Red's notorious earlier anti-gay attitude is partly making me not want to go deeper in the game but it's really mostly the world and the storylines that I just don't feel any connection to. And after seeing almost all episodes of the Netflix show I dislike that world now even more. This from someone who played Dragon Age Inquisition for close to 200 hours.

Do I need to force myself play a game I dislike dozens of hours before possibly starting to enjoy it? Bullshit. I have a job and no free time enough to lose. BTW I'm picky with games and if after a few hours I'm not getting into it it's sayonara.

One game I am currently enjoying is Dying Light. It's not one of my most favorite games ever but the world is fascinating enough and the game play is nicely frantic.

by Anonymousreply 173July 28, 2021 7:01 AM

Just out of curiosity, r173, what was CDPR's anti-gay attitude? They got grief a couple of years ago for transphobia, and I know it's easy to assume that because they are Polish they are anti-gay, but do you have any concrete examples?

by Anonymousreply 174July 28, 2021 9:47 AM

Witcher 2 had a gay character that was apparently vile and presented in a very homophobic way. I never played the game but I've read enough people disliking the character to believe them. I vaguely remember the company not handling the controversy too well, either, but it's possible I remember it wrong. The whole thing was apparently the reason there's only one really minor gay character in Witcher 3. Cyberpunk was their true step forward in gay representation and was actually the reason I finally decided to buy Witcher 3.

by Anonymousreply 175July 29, 2021 12:15 AM

Reached the near end of Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen with a bunch of extremely difficult side quests left (gather a ton of extremely hard to find items), and can’t upgrade my gear without some other extremely hard items to find. Also discovered I missed several side quests and special items as rewards because I didn’t realize I did things in the wrong order or didn’t speak to the right person at the right time. This game has been fun overall, but completing some of the quests and enhancing gear to the highest level is a little too difficult for my tastes.

by Anonymousreply 182September 17, 2021 11:21 PM

I'm not really a gamer, though I do play occasionally. This year I bought myself a Switch for my birthday - it was on sale too. I'm really enjoying it. Only have a couple of games so far, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and the Alex Kidd remake, but also downloaded the NES and SNES packages, and have had a lot of fun with those too.

Always open to recommendations from gamers who know what they're talking about. I tend to love more role playing games, I guess - like Zelda, Final Fantasy etc. I hope to get Final Fantasy X/X2 downloaded sometime in the future. I remember enjoyed X on the Playstation 2 back in the day.

A question: are there any games like this that have real world backgrounds? Like you travel in, and act out the adventure in the real world? I always thought that could be fun.

by Anonymousreply 183September 17, 2021 11:27 PM

One of the many virtues of Guardians of the Galaxy is that it shows off Star-Lord's Star Butt. At least in this game, gay men and women are being catered to in the way that straight men have been catered to in video games forever.

I can't stop staring at his ass while I'm playing the game and knowing that he's canonically bisexual makes it even better.

It's a wonderful game otherwise, too. Uplifting and earnest and nostalgic in a way I really needed in 2021.

I just d/l'd that R184. Was on sale.

Anybody into indie games on steam like Graveyard Keeper or Stoneshard? Steam has this early access feature where indie gamers can release a not yet finished game and let players test it and create a supportive fan community early on before the full game is released. Later some of those games get DLC (extra content) which gives you more hours of fun with the game. Currently, I am replaying Graveyard Keeper with the Better Save Soul DLC.

by Anonymousreply 187February 13, 2022 11:07 AM

I'm curious to see if R182 gets any responses, as I've also wanted to build a gaming PC for modded-out Skyrim for a while now. As a Mac guy, PCs and modding games seems like a scary, daunting task. I honestly don't even know where to begin. I'd probably have to hire one of those Best Buy geeks to come and do it for me, lol

I dusted off my PS4 the other day to download Horizon Forbidden West. It’s the continuation of the game Horizon Zero Dawn. I really loved the first game and so far am enjoying HFW. Anyone else play these 2 games?

I managed to get a PS5 before Christmas and have been playing mostly Returnal on it. Not many free hours to play during the week so things are moving on slowly but the game looks and plays just fantastic. Especially because I treated myself to a new 65" OLED TV, LG C1.

I've got Death Loop, Cyberpunk 2077 and others waiting but it's Dying Light 2 I'll be playing next. I subscribed to the EA Play for discounted first three months to play Mass Effect: Legendary Edition but there's no denying I'm probably over that trilogy. The first one is just tedious to play and it's the one I skipped during my last two playthroughs on PS3 but now I'm afraid I'm over 2 and 3 as well.

R189, I played the first one for like 20 hours until I just stopped. I was never super deep into it and at that point I was like why am I doing this. The game play was fine and the story was good enough but I never liked the main character, I mean almost at all. I tend to always play as a man but in some instances, like Control, where you have to play as a female the character better be great. Horizon Zero Dawn's protagonist was a totally bland teen girl that felt just totally uninteresting in every way. The story wasn't really fascinating enough to ignore that.

by Anonymousreply 190February 20, 2022 12:07 AM

I'm looking forward to playing as twunk Leon in the RE4 remake next year. Twink Leon was great eye candy in RE2 and it seems like he'll look the same, just a few years older. I liked the gameplay of the original RE4so I hope they'll preserve that.

FFXVI looks a little meh to me. Just very generic gameplay and art design and the footage of a forced heterosexual romance (par for the course in FF) makes me even less keen.

Dragon Age announcement was mildly interesting. I hope it's a strong game for BioWare's sake.

These are all next year, though. I realise how little I'm excited for this year. Starfield is supposed to be this year, as well as a new Assassin's Creed most likely, but I haven't heard anything about either. I guess I could go through my backlog and pick up some indie games.

by Anonymousreply 191June 4, 2022 8:57 AM

Starfield is delayed until 2023, and it doesn’t really matter anyway as it’s an Xbox exclusive. Who the fuck plays Xbox over the age of 10? Bethesda has turned into a vaporware company at this point.

by Anonymousreply 192June 4, 2022 9:02 AM

I started playing Elden Ring about six weeks ago. I heard so much about it so I figured I would give it a go. I have never played any of the Dark Souls games before. At first I didn’t like it because The learning curve was steep for me. Also the boss fights are really difficult. But I stuck with it & got better and better and now I’m really enjoying it.

by Anonymousreply 193June 4, 2022 9:18 AM

R192, Starfield will also be on PC.

by Anonymousreply 194June 4, 2022 9:23 AM

So, you're a Play Station fan boy.

by Anonymousreply 196June 4, 2022 1:00 PM

I am so deep into Elden Ring it isn’t even funny. I haven’t been this attached to a video game in probably a decade. I struggled at first, and couldn’t get into the rhythm and feel of it, and then it just kind of clicked, and now I’m a level 110 badass strength/dex build with a touch of wand sorcery for ranged shit and melee weapons that no one can defend against. But I’m still mining every little detail and nook and cranny of this huge-ass world. I love this game like no other.

by Anonymousreply 197June 5, 2022 5:35 AM

by Anonymousreply 198June 5, 2022 6:40 AM

I haven't tried Elden Ring. I don't think I would get into it - I'm not a huge fan of difficult games that you really have to work on to get better at - feels too much like work to me. Not that I don't want to play anything that it takes a bit of time to get skilled at, but it has to be fun while you're still learning, and I could be wrong but it doesn't come across to me like it would be.

by Anonymousreply 203June 6, 2022 10:03 AM

R202 is new here. It’s been like this for twenty years, hun.

by Anonymousreply 204June 6, 2022 11:52 AM

Microsoft’s Xbox announcement was… kind of a mess. That Starfield trailer with “gameplay” was brutal. Barely running at 20 fps, looking like No Man’s Skyrim, saying they had a “1000 planets”. Lol, yeah we’ll see about that. NPC faces looking genuinely terrifying despite the fact they’ve had a decade to improve their design. Characters walking around in the background had their heads on backwards…. No wonder they delayed. There was no way this was going to release this year. Based on what everyone saw, I don’t think it releases next year.

No one wants to be the next Cyberpunk, and certainly not Bethesda, Microsoft’s 7.5 billion dollar purchase that now looks problematic at best.

by Anonymousreply 205June 13, 2022 12:36 PM

[quote]Obviously [R197] has never known Malenia, blade of Miquella

Have you seen all the videos and articles on the guy who goes by Let Me Solo Her. He's naked except for a pot on his head, so barely any defenses, not that armor makes any difference in that fight. No summons or spirit ashes.

He takes down Malenia so easily, often without taking any damage. It's pretty impressive. He dodges through her attacks, including that ridiculous one, Waterfowl Dance.

by Anonymousreply 206June 13, 2022 12:44 PM

The Bethesda purchase is perhaps looking less like a money printing factory.

OTOH, the Obsidian purchase, that one hurts.

by Anonymousreply 207June 13, 2022 1:12 PM

Does anyone here play Conan Exiles?

by Anonymousreply 212June 15, 2022 9:11 PM

I waste more time modding rather than playing. . . or updating abandoned mods for new patches. . . or tackling the bugs that the newer patches never seem to address. It's more of a headache, tho.

so, usually distract on the more frivolous like skins, models, and objects. . . it's surprising how many companies are against modding these days, though. It's getting harder to find hosts outside of github because a few target the main modding sites with dmcas. . . even with games that should be considered abandonware at this point. Then everyone else with inane social politics or other dramas.

of playing, I primarily focus on singleplayer rpgs.

by Anonymousreply 213June 15, 2022 10:30 PM

There are a lot of mods for Conan Exiles apparently, many for map and skill changes, and some for other things.

by Anonymousreply 214June 16, 2022 12:56 AM

Well, do you like Bethesda games R213? Because you probably have a big job ahead of you modding Starfield into a workable version if you like.

by Anonymousreply 215June 16, 2022 12:01 PM

I just finished playing The Quarry and really liked it. Good, campy fun.

by Anonymousreply 216June 16, 2022 12:08 PM

I'm not, R213, but as long as I can get Schlongs of Starfield mod, I'm good.

by Anonymousreply 217June 16, 2022 3:49 PM

I did play Conan Exiles for a bit R212 but I got bored with it fairly quickly and I didn't realise if you don't log in for a while the building you've created just goes. I guess it makes sense to prevent loads of abandoned buildings but when I went back to it and found I had to start from scratch, I just couldn't be bothered.

by Anonymousreply 218June 16, 2022 4:06 PM

R216 Yeah, it was pretty good. And after like 6(?) similar games from SuperMassive we FINALLY got a gay option in this one!

Unfortunately said gay story really leads nowhere and then the ending of the game just falls apart completely. I would barely even call it an ending.

R197, R198, R200, & R206 I finally became Elden Lord last night! You may come by and kiss my ring. But seriously, what should I play next? I’m tired of Elden Ring so I don’t want anymore Fromsoft games at the moment. I’m on PS4.

by Anonymousreply 222July 3, 2022 1:55 AM

I finished Elden Ring on the X Box X last week, after three and a half months of play, exhausted and exhilarated. Think I’m gonna get into No Man’s Sky for a while. I need something low impact after the ballbuster of ER, and from what I’ve read, No Man’s Sky has been improved by leaps and bounds since it was released several years ago.

by Anonymousreply 223July 3, 2022 5:25 AM

Lately I've been blasting thru the Resident Evil games and some GTA Rp.

by Anonymousreply 224July 3, 2022 5:41 AM

I finally found out how to remove the censors from Conan Exiles and of course, I gave my character the biggest cock possible!

by Anonymousreply 225July 3, 2022 8:49 PM

R225 how big we talking?

by Anonymousreply 226July 3, 2022 8:53 PM

[quote] Think I’m gonna get into No Man’s Sky for a while.

I've been intrigued by No Man's Sky since it came out but after watching a few game play videos over the years it still puzzles me that what the hell you're supposed to do in the game. Isn't it just basically a space exploration simulation without any meaningful story to experience?

by Anonymousreply 227July 4, 2022 3:46 AM

A decent 5 inches soft and very thick, but he comes uncut by default which will ruin it for some guys.

by Anonymousreply 228July 4, 2022 4:35 AM

I just bought myself an Xbox Series X. Don't really know why since I don't have enough time to even play on my PS5.

On PS5 I've been playing Spiderman: Miles Morales which is a very pleasant experience. I really loved the first Spiderman game, the game play was just awesome and pretty much flying among the New York buildings just beautiful but since I found the guy super sexy it made playing the game just much more special. He looked to be around 20 or more and it was fun watching him swing away while ogling at his bulge and muscles. Not the same with Miles Morales since he's like pre-twinky 15 and ogling at his body really does nothing for me. Still, as a character he's super nice and his relationship with his mom and friend somehow really hit home.

I tried to get into Elden Ring but the story or the gameplay doesn't grab me in any way. I just keep wondering how the hell was this game getting 10/10 reviews everywhere. I guess it's the whole souls-games thing and the people reviewing them are super in love with the whole genre. Like Daemon Hatfield from IGN said when he was recounting his experience of playing Elden Ring after thinking he might love it: "Fuck no, same old [Dark Souls] bullshit".

I've been in search for the next big game to spend 100 hours in, which is probably why I ended up getting the Xbox. I started to play the Halo franchise, and obviously the older Halo games are not in any way on the same level as the current games which makes it a bit hard to get super into them. I am enjoying Forza Horizon 5 although I can't see myself spending too many hours there. And I just played Gears 4 for an hour. I got the Game Pass Ultimate and can easily go through tons of high quality games and see what I'll enjoy, if any. It's really not easy to find big games that make me want to spend around 100 hours in them. The last one was Days Gone, before that Control, way before that Dragon Age Inquisition and before that all the Mass Effect games.

by Anonymousreply 229July 16, 2022 8:34 PM

I also value game hours and story/lore. Horizon is pretty good for that.

by Anonymousreply 230July 16, 2022 8:35 PM

Like Daemon Hatfield from IGN said when he was recounting his experience of playing Elden Ring after thinking he might love it: "Fuck no, same old [Dark Souls] bullshit".

It took me about 15-20 hours to get into it, but when I finally did it was a cool experience. It’s NOT the 10/10 every fan claims, maybe for DS fans, but for regular players it’s an interesting twist on open world gaming, with some cool design and semi new interesting ideas. I didn’t find it as nearly as punishing as others did but that’s probably because I heavily invested in magic. The story is extremely opaque because there really isn’t much of one, it’s more about wandering the world and kind of relishing in your aloneness with some big boss battles thrown in. If you’re a fan of open world games it’s worth a concerted try. It didn’t make me want to go back and play other Souls games, though. I felt I saw all I needed to see with this one.

by Anonymousreply 231July 17, 2022 12:52 PM

I'm playing some shitty Dead by Daylight chinese knockoff. The thing is, aesthetically they're blatantly imitating Tim Burtons style, and sometimes is so spot on you'd believe it was the man himself behind a lot of the designs.

Also, did any of you actually play the FFVII remake? I played the OG a lot but idk about this one (Also 85 fucking euros, fuck off square)

by Anonymousreply 232July 17, 2022 1:02 PM

So, no lore / story R231. I expect more from Bandai Namco. They did that game didn't they or was it Square, who is starting to put out shit product.

by Anonymousreply 233July 17, 2022 9:56 PM

R229 did you ever play the Witcher: The Wild Hunt (3) game of the year edition? It is one of my top favorite games ever. Just so many things to do and quests, and the expansions are fun.

by Anonymousreply 234July 18, 2022 1:37 PM

R233 there is a story but it is quite esoteric and buried within the game. For example, a lot of the fragments of the story can be read in item descriptions. There are hundreds of items in the game, and most people are not going to read them. You have to then piece this together with the cinematics and random dialogue with NPCs across a game that can take dozens if not a 100 hours to complete to get any understanding.

It's too bad because what's been revealed so far with the story is kind of interesting. I don't understand the game design choice to bury the story like this though.

by Anonymousreply 235July 18, 2022 2:45 PM

I’m near the end of Divinity 2: Original Sin on Xbox One and have found it to be a bit tedious after awhile (there’s no good gear upgrades after a certain point, it seems, and apparently you can do quests completely out of order and miss a bunch of side quests, which is annoying). I started using walkthroughs because I missed important parts of the quests, which takes away from the fun.

Does anyone remember LA Noir from Rockstar Games on box 360? I still go back and play that one because it had a great detective storyline and it was a lot of fun to relive the historical aspects.

by Anonymousreply 236July 18, 2022 9:51 PM

I'm playing Divinity 2 right now as well. On the nameless isle so I think I might be reaching the point of no return soon.

by Anonymousreply 237July 19, 2022 12:32 PM

R235, Do the other Souls games have a back story or plot?

by Anonymousreply 238July 21, 2022 2:10 AM

Not really R235.

by Anonymousreply 239July 21, 2022 12:54 PM

R238 Never played them.

by Anonymousreply 240July 21, 2022 3:58 PM

The company that made Elden Ring hired a professional author, George R.R. Martin, to help develop the story so not sure why they make it so unapproachable and cryptic for the audience/players.

by Anonymousreply 241July 21, 2022 4:02 PM

[quote] [R229] did you ever play the Witcher: The Wild Hunt (3) game of the year edition? It is one of my top favorite games ever. Just so many things to do and quests, and the expansions are fun.

I've tried playing it multiple times but I don't find the story or the world itself very interesting. It was a cliché after a cliché during the 5 to 10 hours I've put in the game. The only thing holding my interest was Geralt's sexiness but that obviously only gets you that far. BTW, not surprisingly I seriously disliked the Netflix series as well. In my eyes there's something very inauthentic about the world building by both CD Projekt Red and the makers of the show.

As a comparison I loved playing Dragon Age Inquisition although it definitely had many issues as well. But for whatever reasons I enjoyed that world but just can't stand the Witcher's.

by Anonymousreply 242July 23, 2022 4:11 PM

I would play Witcher 3 if the main character is a hot white man. But he is way too ugly for me to continue playing after a few hours.

by Anonymousreply 243July 24, 2022 3:58 AM

R242 to be fair, I was just a few hours into Witcher 3 and trying to learn gwent at the first inn and felt way over my head with the game’s intense learning curve and layout. It only grew on me after I dove in several more hours. But it’s not for everyone. I do think there are a lot of types of tasks and quests beyond most games.

I also LOVED inquisition and I still go back and play all three Dragon Age games, particularly Inquisition.

by Anonymousreply 244July 24, 2022 4:10 AM

I tried at least three times to get into Witcher 3 and just couldn’t do it, and I’ve played hundreds of hours Skyrim, Fallout and multiple other open world games. I couldn’t do Cyberpunk either. There’s something very cold and empty about Witcher dev’s games. It could just be a cultural difference, but I haven’t found a way to bridge it.

by Anonymousreply 245July 24, 2022 12:17 PM

R236 LA Noire is one of my all-time favorite games. I go back and replay it every now and then. There's still nothing else like it. Plus, I like the setting and styles.

by Anonymousreply 246July 24, 2022 12:42 PM

it's not new but recently I have been playing Disco Elysium, it's an amazing game and it's somewhat gay

by Anonymousreply 247July 24, 2022 2:42 PM

I'd like to play the co-op modded Skyrim.

by Anonymousreply 248July 24, 2022 9:22 PM

R247 some of my younger student-age mutuals are really into DISCO ELYSIUM, and though I don't game at all, it has caught my attention for its lush visual art style, indie soundtrack, and literary meme culture that has sprung up around it. Apparently if you get deep enough into the game, you start getting hot sociopolitical takes and philosophical weirdness happening, though there's no real way to complete the mission.

It seems highbrow, even a bit pretentious--is it? Or is that just hype backlash?

I just picked up Elden Ring again since there are rumors that there is going to be a DLC soon. I want to play Sekiro, but keep waiting for it to drop in price on Steam.

I've been sitting on Borderlands III and Devil May Cry 5 for almost a year.

I'm actually excited for Space Skyrim, Starfied.

by Anonymousreply 251October 18, 2022 10:39 PM

It has been an absolute desert in gaming for almost a year with a few very rare expections. I know the pandemic hit gaming hard but damn. Releases have been bleak. Everything is a copy, a sequel, a reboot, or derivative. The creative well has run dry for gaming. It’s bad out there. Overwatch 2 remains trash, Dead any Daylight devs have made the game virtually unplayable for 70% of its players, the toxicity in online gaming is unreal, indie releases are awful, AAA releases are broken and when they’re fixed get worse.

I’ve been on Xbox or PlayStation for nearly thirty years but I’m genuinely thinking of switching to PC, although I’m not at all convinced PC is any better at this no point. Gaming feels played out.

by Anonymousreply 252October 19, 2022 12:35 PM

r252 I mean I'd say the droughts over. Plague Tale came out yesterday, Gotham Knights is at the end of the week, God of War next month. This is probably the first time since covid I'm probably going to be more console focused since there's at least one major game I'm interested in out once every month from now until February with Hogwarts Legacy.

by Anonymousreply 253October 19, 2022 3:25 PM

Kind of looking forward to The Callisto Protocol, a big, deep horror space thing that comes out in early December. First new game in years by the studio that made Dead Space, and I LOVED those games.

by Anonymousreply 254October 19, 2022 6:30 PM

I’m impatiently waiting for Dragon Age 4. It sounds like we have another year to go?

by Anonymousreply 255October 19, 2022 7:41 PM

Gotham Knights reviews are terrible R253. Technical disaster which can’t even manage 30 fps locked on PS5 or Xbox X, a standard which has existed for over a decade. Arkham looks better.

Callisto Protocol (essentially a Dead Space remake) being released a month before an actual Dead Space remake? Make it make sense.

The new GOW looks good. That’s a total of 40 hours gameplay, maybe? Gaming is in trouble.

by Anonymousreply 256October 20, 2022 3:30 PM

Why was there a lockdown gaming drought I wonder?

I got into Fortnight for during lockdown with my cousins. What caused me to quit was my experience accidentally joining a campaign with what appeared to be a bunch of 7 year olds during their school lunch break. They were such little assholes!

You may get more bang for your buck with an AMD processor and graphics, rather than going with intel/nvidia. These should all hit below $1000. However, gaming laptop price breakpoints are odd. You may get a substantially better computer for $1200-1400.

R258 Just build a PC yourself. $1000 can get you a decent setup. Gaming laptop is trash.

by Anonymousreply 261October 20, 2022 6:09 PM

R261, for a while now it's been cheaper to buy ready-made branded desktop computers than to build one yourself. Or at least that's been the case here in Europe. Obviously you can also choose the components and have a professional assemble it. I've used an Asus ROG desktop I bought from a sale for a few years now and it's been quite solid. I've used it extensively for 3d modeling and digital painting and I couldn't have been happier. I'm about to replace it with a similar gaming desktop once RTX 4080 or 4090 versions start coming out.

[quote] I’ve been on Xbox or PlayStation for nearly thirty years but I’m genuinely thinking of switching to PC, although I’m not at all convinced PC is any better at this no point. Gaming feels played out.

Gaming on pc can feel quite different, especially with FPSs. Years ago I was practically addicted to playing Unreal Tournament on my pc until I decided to move all my gaming to Playstation 3. I've since bought a PS4, PS5 and recently Xbox Series X and I still can't imagine playing a fast moving FPS on a console since the controls just can't match a keyboard and a mouse in shooting accuracy. And there's also some sort of intimacy playing right in front of a screen you can't get with a TV. I've got a 65" OLED TV which obviously offers nice immersion but still the difference is there.

And about getting bored with gaming? Maybe it's just time to widen your horizons. Doing sports, body building, meditating and developing new skills can give you real life experiences gaming is just simulating.

I've never been a huge gamer, and really playing various versions of Unreal Tournament was the only time I've truly enjoyed gaming in an adrenaline rush kind of way. I've since played thousands of hours on consoles but I've never reached the same kind of rush I got from UTs on pc.

I just finished Gears 4 and 5 on my Xbox and quite frankly I wondered more than once why the hell am I playing this crap. The visuals were awesome but the game play itself was rather off-putting. JD's sexiness was a big part why I didn't just quit. However I do love scifi and Mass Effect trilogy is my all time favorite. Gears is a pale version of ME story wise but it was scifi enough to keep me entertained.

I just started playing Quantum Break and so far I'm liking the story elements although I'm still in the learning phase.

Are Gaymers as hot in real life as they are in porn? No judgement, please. I happen to like the "type."

by Anonymousreply 263October 25, 2022 5:22 PM

Gamers and Gaymers come in all forms. Some are hot, most are not, just like with anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 264October 25, 2022 5:59 PM

Yeah, I should have thought of that on my own before asking. I was just wondering if, even overgeneralized, they were [italic]usually[/italic] a "type."

Thanks.

I'm not necessarily a super gamer like a lot of my online friends, but I am a full-time Discord addict, and it definitely is my most used communications platform.

My PC is old and really showing its age after six years. It was lower-end gaming stuff back in 2016 (off-the-shelf Best Buy garbage)—time for a fresh one. I am pretty much still stuck at home, so I'm going to go all out and build a really incredible PC. RTX 4090 is included. My current build spec sheet is over $3k, but I'm going to be picking up little pieces on sale, not to mention I'm just a cheapskate and saved money on other things in my setup over the past while. This will be my first high-end computer ever, outside of my very nice M1 MacBook Air, which is a low-end Mac but, in general, is just a luxury item along with my Apple ecosystem. I've had a shitty past couple of years, yet I've been blessed with a little extra jingle in my pockets. It's not a terribly large mount, but it will definitely allow me to build an incredible PC that'll last me for seven to ten years. I am very much into VR and am hoping to get my first VR headset in a few months.

Going all in on my nerd hobby, as musical instruments are just stupidly outrageous right now. It will be many years until I can stomach buying another Martin guitar, if they ever go back to a somewhat reasonable price, or I become really rich and famous- ha!

I grew up on the (S)NES but shifted to PC gaming ever since. These days, Overwatch 2 is my go-to "kill a few minutes of time between meetings" or "get stoned and light up the right areas of my brain for a bit" activity, but I rarely play other games. I've loved Disco Elysium and The Witness recently.

The Diablo 4 beta was fun, though it's not really my kind of game. I generally like games that are a bit slower paced and thoughtful. Still, I liked it enough to pre-order.

R266 here. Built my new system and WOO is it nice. It has so much power I literally don't know what to do with it. I've played a bit of Cyberpunk borrowed from my friend with the settings cranked - it's amazing how far graphics have come. And yes, I did get a RTX 4090! The last one available at Best Buy in my state.

Just finished Far Cry 6. Meh. Ubisoft needs a new formula. Ghost Recon / Assassin’s Creed / Far Cry.. all the same.

Ghost Recon Wildlands was particularly bad.

Now.. Looking for a solid sniper game.

I just finished Final Fantasy 16, and it is HANDS DOWNS one of the best games that I've EVER played. It was my first FF and I'm looking forward to backtracking. The graphics are UNREAL on PS5. It deserved every nerd award it received and then some. Absolutely breathtaking.

R272, I actually liked all those games.

FWIW, "Sniper Elite" series is a great sniper game, the latest being the best.

I've finished the main game of Diablo IV and love it (the visuals are breathtaking, the cut scenes are cinematic). It can get a little repetitive if you try to finish all the side quests and dungeons, but none of that is necessary. The main line quest is where it's at. Still playing with other character classes though.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is an amazing fun game (but with many of the same mechanics as the Assassin's Creed open world games). REALLY great sense of humor, if you're into old greek mythology jokes. Some of the puzzles in the dungeons cross the line between "clever" and "whoever designed this is just being an asshole", but you don't HAVE to do all of them to successfully complete the game. The cartoony style is fun to look at.

Starfield, or Skyrim in Space, is coming soon.

It actually looks pretty good, but also like playing it and enjoying it is a HUGE commitment. Can't wait to see what the modding community does with it.

Decided to replay Witcher 3 since I just found it they released a 3 next gen upgrade and nothing else was calling to me. Am probably going to mostly drag that playthrough out until October when Spider-Man 2 better let me make Peter and Harry Osborne kiss. Might get that new Assassins Creed before as well though depending on how the finished product ends up looking. Its meant to be more like the Ezio series but from everything I've seen so far it looks more and more like an Odyssey and Valhalla style slug fest.
