MSNBC - Part 18

Move over, Vaughn Hillyard.

Gary Grumbach is the new twink in town!

by Anonymousreply 600November 10, 2020 6:07 PM

Gary is adorable.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 1August 16, 2020 12:15 AM

He is cute, when is he on?

by Anonymousreply 2August 16, 2020 12:20 AM

Is this the new MSNBC: Homeschool Edition?

by Anonymousreply 3August 16, 2020 12:38 AM

Lol R3.

Here's Gary in his College News gig.

by Anonymousreply 4August 16, 2020 12:42 AM

Gary looks like he's 12.

There is only room for ONE NewsTwink, and it is me!

Go ask Andrea!

Is Vaughn about to do the news equivalent of transitioning from Helix Studios to Treasure Island Media?

Is his news hole too used up and blown out to excite MSNBC viewers?

by Anonymousreply 6August 16, 2020 1:41 AM

Gary's ears are a problem.

There's a newish plastic surgery procedure called macrotia surgery that can reduce ear size, not just pin them back, which is all they could do in the past (otoplasty).

He might want to look into that.

David Gura is clearly in crisis. He appears to be blond now.

by Anonymousreply 8August 16, 2020 1:50 AM

Gary Grumbach?

Bitch stole my look!
There is only room for ONE NewsTwink, and it is me!

A-hem!

by Anonymousreply 10August 16, 2020 2:02 AM

Somebody in the old thread said they never seen Haake anchoring. I had the privilege to catch him substitute for Joy one Saturday morning and he looked sexy as ever without the mask. This was before The Reid Out was announced. He's a correspondent but, I love staring at him all day. Let's give him a live hour, fuck Chuck Todd, give Nicolle MTP on Sundays....did I miss anything??

by Anonymousreply 11August 16, 2020 2:07 AM

In case you all didn't know David Gura is hung massively. I mean the thing exists in its on zip code. At Cornell he was called "tube".

by Anonymousreply 12August 16, 2020 2:15 AM

What are your sources of this information, R12?

Or are you David Gura, drunk, blond, and fiddling on his roof while eyeballing Google Alerts?

by Anonymousreply 13August 16, 2020 2:20 AM

I went to Williams, he went to Cornell. My roommate was best friends with him and he would visit from time to time. Fun guy, always had good weed.

by Anonymousreply 14August 16, 2020 2:27 AM

He looks like he still smokes weed, R14!

But who gossiped about his dick? Men? Women?

by Anonymousreply 15August 16, 2020 2:39 AM

If that’s your description of adorable, I’d hate to see what your description of cute looks like. He looks like he’s on his way to Sunday School. Throw this one back and try again!

by Anonymousreply 16August 16, 2020 2:40 AM

R15, my roommate had a bunch of high school friends visit (girls and guys) and someone brought up his "tube" nickname. So I asked and that's how I found out. Then later on that semester a girl that hung out with us blew him and she gave me details.

by Anonymousreply 17August 16, 2020 2:45 AM
I mean the thing exists in its on zip code.

What were the details, R17?

by Anonymousreply 18August 16, 2020 2:50 AM

Fucking corporate media, and you care, OP?

Duck the duck off.

by Anonymousreply 19August 16, 2020 3:06 AM

Wait, so David Gura is straight, R17?

That's a bummer.

The story about his huge cock is a major turn on, though.

BREAKING NEWS

by Anonymousreply 24August 16, 2020 4:16 PM

Yes, grandma. That's what adult males look like "Now-A-Days."

by Anonymousreply 25August 16, 2020 4:35 PM

Bullshit, R25! R24 is right. I thought he was like 15.

I see he's like 25. I've seen 25yo TODAY. He doesn't look like them, R25.

by Anonymousreply 26August 16, 2020 4:44 PM

I just landed on MSNBC.

Garrett Haake is very easy on the eyes.

He also has a very pleasant personality.

Why doesn't he anchor more often?

by Anonymousreply 27August 16, 2020 5:29 PM

[OT There is not a CBS news thread but I wanted to comment that Margaret Brennan ate the Governor of Mississippi's lunch today on FTN. It was amazeballs watching her tear into his ineffective policies against his open school orders amid rising infection rates. She is getting better. ]

by Anonymousreply 35August 17, 2020 11:23 AM

by Anonymousreply 44August 18, 2020 7:58 PM

Honestly, r44, I have no idea. She doesn't look like she's been done, but her face is more "chiseled" if this makes any sense? Though I have to say it wouldn't surprise me if she had work done while away. It's their seeking nature, right?

by Anonymousreply 45August 19, 2020 8:42 AM

Beto alert! He's on next.

by Anonymousreply 46August 19, 2020 9:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 49August 19, 2020 9:46 PM

Hans Nichols (now at Axios) is on C-Span from his house right now. There are animal paintings on the wall behind him- a bunny, a fawn, an owl, a badger(?) and one other I can’t identify.

Pretty cute.

by Anonymousreply 50August 19, 2020 9:54 PM

Is Hans straight?

by Anonymousreply 51August 19, 2020 9:57 PM

Why does it seem as if Joy Reid & Jason Johnson express more disdain for Mayor Pete than Donald Trump? And she gets a show at a prime hour?

Is MSNBC turning on scholarly, married, white gay men with "ambition"?

by Anonymousreply 52August 19, 2020 11:04 PM

Please shut the fuck up R52.

by Anonymousreply 53August 19, 2020 11:44 PM

Jason Johnson is truly horrible. I didn’t miss him. He’s wrong about virtually everything and never owns up to it when he’s called out. One of the worst contributors.

by Anonymousreply 54August 19, 2020 11:49 PM

Hans has BGF. He does appear on TV. Saw him briefly on the show that precedes Morning Joe.

by Anonymousreply 55August 19, 2020 11:55 PM

Someone posted this in Part 17 (which is paywalled, so I'm posting it here):
I hope Hillary remarks on how Mika was part of the but her emails crowd, and she and Joe licked Trump's boots during the campaign. Yes, I am still holding a grudge against Joe and Mika for their past Trump support.

I'd like to add that she should also call Mika out on completely TRASHING Joe Biden over the Tara Reade allegations, only to have Tara Reade completely discredited. Now Tara Reade is cancelled, and Joe is the nominee.

But Mika should be held accountable for presuming Joe guilty, before all the facts were out.

Jonathan Lemire is my future ex-husband. He just doesn't know it yet.

by Anonymousreply 61August 21, 2020 6:23 PM

I really wish I understood Ari Melber's show. It is almost pointless. Could we move him to 4 and have Nicole lead in to Joy's show.

by Anonymousreply 62August 22, 2020 12:11 AM

Ari's an attorney, so I think they brought him on a some sort of legal analyst.

Dan Abrams used to be the go-to law guy for MSNBC, but when he left, they filled the void with Ari.

I guess that MSNBC thought it would be worthwhile to have Ari as a commentator, since Trump breaks so many laws.

But alas, Washington and Congress doesn't seem to care about how many laws Trump breaks.

by Anonymousreply 63August 22, 2020 12:23 AM

The only thing I like about Ari Melber is that he's a lawyer who's capable of asking questions and making comments that are intelligent and informative from a legal perspective. Unfortunately, he's not content to remain in that role without veering off into rap territory. Now that you mention it, R63, I miss Dan Abrams!

by Anonymousreply 64August 22, 2020 12:26 AM

I loved Dan Abrams. I'm not sure if the average MSNBC watcher is all that into rap.

by Anonymousreply 65August 22, 2020 12:28 AM

Fucking hell, R62.

You posted about Ari, then I responded to you at R63.

About two minutes later, I opened up a new tab for Youtube, and Ari Melber was the first suggested video on the page.

What the fuck???!!! Goddamned internet.

by Anonymousreply 66August 22, 2020 12:31 AM

When I first moved to NYC 20 years ago, I was walking up Sixth Avenue and Dan Abrams was approaching from the opposite direction. I recognized him immediately because I thought he was so gorgeous then. He was wearing a tan suit and exuded sex appeal.

Joe Biden is on "live" with Andrea Mitchell right now.

Horrible lighting, Joe looks like he's 120 years old.

by Anonymousreply 83August 27, 2020 4:53 PM

Andrea sounds like she had a stroke.

Chuck the Toad was visibly shocked that HE didn't get the Biden call in.

by Anonymousreply 84August 28, 2020 12:22 AM

Watching Andrea and Joe try to do a remote interview was tense because neither one of them can actually end a sentence cleanly. She stutters and rambles on even when she should have just stopped talking. Thankfully, it went okay and he didn't have any major gaffes.

by Anonymousreply 85August 28, 2020 12:28 AM

Why did MSNBC feel it necessary to obviously lighten Kamala Harris' skin color in their promotional ads for her "exclusive" interview with Craig Melvin?

Andrea Mitchell sounds like she's half asleep.

Joy Reid also had her on yesterday. Floriana says she is voting for Biden.

by Anonymousreply 92August 28, 2020 4:53 PM

I hate the way Carly Fiorina talks. I’d guess she had elocution lessons and used to have a nasty accent of some sort.

by Anonymousreply 93August 28, 2020 4:58 PM
Cara Carleton Sneed was born on September 6, 1954, in Austin, Texas, the daughter of Madelon Montross (née Juergens) and Joseph Tyree Sneed III. The name "Carleton", from which "Carly" is derived, has been used in every generation of the Sneed family since the Civil War. At the time of her birth, Fiorina's father was a professor at the University of Texas School of Law. He would later become dean of Duke University School of Law, Deputy U.S. Attorney General, and judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Her mother was an abstract painter. She is mainly of English and German ancestry, and was raised Episcopalian. Her paternal great-great-great-grandfather, Joseph P. Sneed, was a Methodist minister and educator in Texas.

I never would have guessed. All this time, I thought she was Italian. She kind of looks Italian.

So I'm thinking that maybe she had a heavy Texas accent, and tried to get rid of it.

It's that time in the election cycle when MSNBC tries to be a little more balanced and invites a few sacrificial Republicans to be on a few panels. They get torn down immediately and don't fight back. I remember in 2016 some cheap, whorish woman on Trump's campaign (pre-Kellyanne) was on Lawrence's show. About ten seconds after she started spouting her bullshit, Lawrence said very loudly "OH SHUT UP!" I relish that moment even today.

R103, His close friendship with Lin-Manuel Miranda makes him automatically unattractive to me.

Thick meat and a thick ass, too, R103.

by Anonymousreply 105August 31, 2020 2:19 AM

Chris Hayes has not learned to get over his college age disdain for people he presumes aren't as smart as he thinks he is. Not a good look for us liberals. In fact, it fires right back in our faces among working-class swing voters. Hayes' smug, know-it-all personality grates on them as well as us.

by Anonymousreply 106August 31, 2020 4:50 PM

Translation of r106: I know Chris Hayes is smarter than me, and it wounds.

by Anonymousreply 107August 31, 2020 4:56 PM

If you want someone to celebrate ignorance you won’t find it on MSNBC.

by Anonymousreply 108August 31, 2020 4:57 PM

How does one justify his smirky, barely self-contained bask-in-his-own glow persona? Rachel is a Ph. D. Rhodes scholar, yet she manages without Hayes level of self-congratulatory smarm.

by Anonymousreply 109August 31, 2020 5:13 PM

Rachel is an alpha dyke who has to one up everyone. The first time she had Pete on she mentioned that she was a Rhodes scholar FIRST within the first 20 seconds of the interview, as if Pete was supposed to grovel and praise her for it. She’s also a loony toon who pushed Russian conspiracy theories for 2 years. There’s a reason her ratings tanked after the muller report was released.

by Anonymousreply 110August 31, 2020 5:22 PM

Rachel uses faux modesty: “Did I get anything wrong?” Meaning “Please tell everyone I got it exactly right.” She conveys her contempt by explaining everything three or four times, showing she doesn’t think her audience is smart enough to follow along.

by Anonymousreply 111August 31, 2020 7:36 PM

Actually she mentioned it because Pete is also a gay Rhodes Scholar, but unlike her, he was not out at the time.

by Anonymousreply 113August 31, 2020 7:50 PM

Rachel isn’t the expert so she asks the expert to correct her if necessary.

Why are people so pressed about this? LOL

by Anonymousreply 114September 1, 2020 12:30 AM

And the other hosts are all experts? What are her writers and producers for?

Anyway, the point was Rachel is free of self-congratulation. I find her ‘Did I get that right?” shtick to be be a form of self-congratulations. You are free to take it at face value.

by Anonymousreply 115September 1, 2020 1:24 AM
Rachel uses faux modesty: “Did I get anything wrong?” Meaning “Please tell everyone I got it exactly right.”

No, there are a couple of times when a reporter (who's story Rachel's explaining) or guest (who is the subject of her discussion) provides additional detail that's germane to our understanding what's going on.

In that context, I think it's also a sign of respect that after providing the set-up, Rachel then defers to the reporter or the subject in order for them to be the last word in defining the overall narrative.

by Anonymousreply 116September 1, 2020 1:39 AM

Most guests would correct an important error on their own initiative, and 99% of the time we hear the “you got it exactly right, Rachel.” Completely unnecessary.

by Anonymousreply 117September 1, 2020 1:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 122September 1, 2020 5:07 PM

Nope. Not smarmy. He just assumes his audience is smart.

by Anonymousreply 123September 1, 2020 5:23 PM

Did you stop to consider that his potential audience might find his "I'm a smart guy, hear me roar" smarmimess a bit of a discouraging turn off? He's average to middling smart to the rest of us not in a Trump choke hold.

by Anonymousreply 124September 1, 2020 6:23 PM
Rachel isn’t the expert so she asks the expert to correct her if necessary.

Rachel does it so she can act like “the expert agrees that I’m right about everything!”

by Anonymousreply 125September 1, 2020 6:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 130September 1, 2020 10:22 PM

Poor Rachel. I used to sit and watch her religiously. Now I can barely sit through a whole hour. Today, just like yesterday, she is promoting someone's book and spending most of the hour discussing/reading excerpts of topics she's DEFINITELY covered before.

Have her ratings gone down since Trump??? I used to complain she was spending too much time on him and his controversies. I just want the good old days. Remember when she broke stories like Bridgegate & Flint??? Petty local corruption?? Hopefully a Biden adminstration would re-center her show, but I really miss Rachel from 2015/2016.

by Anonymousreply 131September 2, 2020 1:19 AM

R131 - I haven't watched tonight's show yet, but yesterday's show (to which R120 alluded) was a discussion of Michael Schmidt new book - which was also discussed this morning on Morning Joe.

Given the book contains new information, it was certainly worth discussing.

I still love Rachel but do admit I'm surprised the publishing companies are okay with her reading so much of their authors' books on her show. Yes, it's great promotion and not really the entire book but she basically reads out for the audience anything in there that might be considered the headliner (or the reason you might actually want to buy it). But here she is reading it out for free, so why bother.

That said, it's vital information that needs to get out (particularly with regard to Schmidt's book last night), so it's worth the time to listen.

by Anonymousreply 133September 2, 2020 1:33 AM

Wow this author with Rachel seems really fragile, like she’s about to burst into tears. I want to give her a hug.

by Anonymousreply 134September 2, 2020 1:39 AM

After the way Rachel treated Buttigieg, she lost me forever.

The only time I want to see her smug face is if somebody's slapping it.

by Anonymousreply 135September 2, 2020 1:45 AM

After the way Rachel treated Buttigieg I understand how she is a threatened Lesbian intellectual.

I would LOVE to see Rachel interview Amy Walter: Liberal intellectual Lesbian to Conservative intellectual Lesbian.

A Nutloaf Fever Dream

by Anonymousreply 136September 2, 2020 11:42 AM

I wouldn't say Amy Walter is a conservative.

by Anonymousreply 137September 2, 2020 11:49 AM

OMG, she is the conservative counterpoint on PBS EVERY time.

Most certainly conservative.

by Anonymousreply 138September 2, 2020 11:57 AM

I haven’t seen any evidence Amy Walter is conservative.

by Anonymousreply 139September 2, 2020 1:25 PM

Ben Collins is on all the time now. He’s a hottie

by Anonymousreply 140September 2, 2020 1:33 PM

Whatever happened to Joyce Vance? I haven't seen her in months. It would be very interesting to get her perspective as a University of Alabama law school faculty member.

by Anonymousreply 141September 2, 2020 2:17 PM

Brian Williams is smarmy; Chris Hayes is manic. Rachel? Insecure people-pleaser? Hell I don't know. Just glad they got rid of doddery grampa Chris Matthews.

by Anonymousreply 142September 2, 2020 2:23 PM

I want to lick Chris Hayes' big biceps and chest.

by Anonymousreply 143September 2, 2020 2:38 PM

Eugene Robinson sounds like Kermit the Frog.

by Anonymousreply 144September 2, 2020 2:48 PM

On Monday Rachel was promoting Michael Schmidt's book. Michael Schmidt is an MSNBC REGULAR. Anything new in the book he could've simply been interviewed on. I don't buy the shameless promotion.....

by Anonymousreply 145September 2, 2020 3:19 PM

I’ve never appreciated Rachel’s fetish for reading long excerpts of trial transcripts, memos, books etc. with the text up on the screen so you can spot her changes. She complains about not having time for the news, but wastes so much of it.

by Anonymousreply 146September 2, 2020 7:22 PM

Lol, on Joy Reid's show now: "Study: Muslims, Jews more likely to oppose violence"

She was getting dragged on Twitter Monday for comparing radicalized right wing groups to Muslim terrorists, so now she's doing major damage control.

by Anonymousreply 147September 3, 2020 12:02 AM
She was getting dragged on Twitter Monday for comparing radicalized right wing groups to Muslim terrorists, so now she's doing major damage control.

I wonder how much she paid that Muslim woman to kiss her ass and talk about how great Joy is?

by Anonymousreply 148September 3, 2020 12:51 AM

Joy wasn’t wrong about what she said. Dump,is radicalizing right wing morons

by Anonymousreply 149September 3, 2020 1:40 AM

Exactly, R149. The point she was making -- and I agree with her -- is why do all Muslims get condemned for acts of terrorism but no one condemns all white Americans for the acts of right-wing radical groups. I'm sure the only people "dragging" her were right-wing trolls like R147.

by Anonymousreply 150September 3, 2020 1:46 AM

Rosie said basically the same thing on the View many years ago and was pilloried for it. America just doesn’t want to hear that.

by Anonymousreply 151September 3, 2020 1:52 AM

Look, Trump is radicalizing his followers, and the media does give him a pass, but she did make a sweeping, unflattering generalization about Muslims that was completely unnecessary to make those points.

Once again, she plays the victim rather than own what she said. No doubt some of her critics are happy to go after her for reasons unrelated to concern for Muslims, but they did not “misconstrue” what she said.

Once again, she relies upon her friends to bail her out.

I wonder how many times that will work for her.

by Anonymousreply 152September 3, 2020 2:05 AM
Whatever happened to Joyce Vance?

She still appears on MSNBC on occasion, but you know, I know, and she knows why she isn't being featured as much lately. Perhaps that will change as others explore new career opportunities.

by Anonymousreply 153September 3, 2020 2:17 AM

Joyce is pretty active on Twitter and has spot-on things to say, as always.

by Anonymousreply 154September 3, 2020 2:56 AM
... you know, I know, and she knows why she isn't being featured as much lately.

I don't know, R153 -- please explain.

by Anonymousreply 155September 3, 2020 5:13 AM

R153 = Joan Crawford.

by Anonymousreply 156September 3, 2020 1:51 PM

I would sniff and lick Ben Collins' hairy hole

by Anonymousreply 157September 3, 2020 2:42 PM

Get in line, R157.

by Anonymousreply 158September 3, 2020 3:53 PM

Thank you, r152, for clearing that up for the knee-jerkers here on DL.

by Anonymousreply 159September 3, 2020 6:58 PM

Rachel was sloppy tonight. Disinherit is not the same as disown, and Tiffany’s child support would end when she was no longer dependent (got a job or joined military or peace corps), not specifically if she joined the military.

by Anonymousreply 160September 4, 2020 3:15 AM

Neal Katyal is so cute and sexy. Love his hairy chest.

by Anonymousreply 161September 4, 2020 3:27 AM

Sorry, let me clarify that I love the fact it's obvious he has a hairy chest as it peeks out from the top of his unbuttoned shirts. I haven't actually SEEN his hairy chest, unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 162September 4, 2020 3:28 AM

R160. That was really sloppy. Stopping child support if the child got a job, or joined the military. Hardly a scandal, not sure why she came to the conclusion she did.

by Anonymousreply 163September 4, 2020 4:52 AM
Disinherit is not the same as disown, and Tiffany’s child support would end when she was no longer dependent

Could you enlighten us about the differences, please?

by Anonymousreply 164September 4, 2020 5:47 AM

In one you are expelled from the family; the other you don’t inherit money.

by Anonymousreply 165September 4, 2020 5:51 AM

So one can be expelled, but still inherit?

by Anonymousreply 166September 4, 2020 6:20 AM

Unlikely.

by Anonymousreply 167September 4, 2020 7:23 AM

Hey Rachel haters!

Programming note. Rachel will be interviewing Michael Cohen on Tuesday, September 8 at 9:00 p.m.

Okay, toodles!

by Anonymousreply 168September 4, 2020 12:24 PM

That's the day of Cohen's book release. I'm surprised we haven't seen any leaks from it yet. No one in the media has gotten an advance copy?

by Anonymousreply 169September 4, 2020 12:29 PM

Joy Reid is on Morning Joe, and I can't stand listening to her.

She is the absolute worst.

Everything out of her mouth is opinion, and nothing based on fact. Which is why she gets into so much fucking trouble.

Reid is one of the least intelligent commentators on the entire network, simply because she goes on these long, annoying rants (like she's doing right now on Morning Joe), and cites no references or research. It's all just fucking OPINION.

Well nobody wants to hear your goddamned OPINION, bitch.

News people should be basing their commentary on FACT.

by Anonymousreply 170September 4, 2020 12:33 PM

Everybody on Morning Joe traffics in opinion, R170.

by Anonymousreply 171September 4, 2020 12:44 PM

“The Young Paul Ryan Chronicles”

by Anonymousreply 172September 4, 2020 12:48 PM

R168 - Lester Holt is interviewing him on NBC on the same day.

Cohen's going to be a busy guy next week.

by Anonymousreply 173September 4, 2020 2:43 PM

R173, Will his ghostwriter, Rosie O'Donnell, be appearing with him?

by Anonymousreply 174September 4, 2020 3:16 PM

R171, yes, but Joy did it while black, which was the only real problem for R170.

by Anonymousreply 175September 4, 2020 3:48 PM

Whatever happened to that blonde MSNBC person who had the inside track on all things related to Michael Cohen? Is she irrelevant now that the man himself is willing to talk?

by Anonymousreply 176September 4, 2020 4:30 PM

Emily Jane Fox was interviewed from her oceanside vacation spot a few days go when Melania's ex-friend's book came out. Expect to see her a lot next week.

by Anonymousreply 177September 4, 2020 4:55 PM

Rachel announced she is doing 2 hours of her show tonight. Put Lawrence out to pasture or replace him after the election.

by Anonymousreply 178September 5, 2020 1:44 AM

Joy did two hours also.

by Anonymousreply 179September 5, 2020 1:55 AM
Joy did two hours also.

by Anonymousreply 180September 5, 2020 1:55 AM
Joy did two hours also.

Why is this bitch appearing everywhere on MSNBC?

Morning Joe had her on today, promoting her stupid book.

Then she gets an extra hour for her nightly show?

And she also pops in on A.M. Joy on the weekends.

She's fucking everywhere, like the coronavirus.

by Anonymousreply 181September 5, 2020 1:57 AM

I wasn't sold on Joy at first when they announced that she would be taking over Chris Matthews's slot, but she's really become a phenom. She's a bigger deal than Nicole Wallace now.

by Anonymousreply 182September 5, 2020 4:37 AM

I love Joy. No one trolls Trump better than she does.

by Anonymousreply 183September 5, 2020 4:48 AM

Joy refers to her teenage children. Who is their father?

by Anonymousreply 184September 5, 2020 6:56 AM

Holiday weekend.

by Anonymousreply 185September 5, 2020 7:13 AM
Whatever happened to Joyce Vance? I haven't seen her in months.

She was just on Velshi's show a few minutes ago. They were talking about Dump barring federal agencies from doing racial sensitivity training. She said he's just "blasting out his racism" by ending those programs.

by Anonymousreply 186September 5, 2020 1:27 PM

The 2nd half of Rachel's two hour show consisted of a repeat of her interviews with Stephanie Winston Wolkoff and Michael Schmidt's - I guess in case anyone missed it.

I don't think it was to put Lawrence out to pasture so much as it was for MSNBC to get the night people home for the Labor Day weekend - and have them well rested enough for when Michael Cohen pays a visit next week.

by Anonymousreply 187September 5, 2020 1:51 PM

R187, it was the same thing with Joy's show prior to Rachel's -- she did a 2-hour show, the second hour taking over Chris Hayes' spot, and part of her second hour was a repeat segment of her interview with Mary Trump. As you said, I think they did this to give folks the night off and an early start for the Labor Day weekend. (Instead of Steve Kornacki filling in for Brian at 11 as he's done all week, they repeated Ari's show from earlier in the evening.)

There will be no new shows on Monday night by the way.

by Anonymousreply 188September 5, 2020 1:58 PM

Maria Teresa Kumar filling in as host of AM Joy this morning. Nice!

by Anonymousreply 189September 5, 2020 2:02 PM

R189 She called Ali Velshi Velshi Ali a couple of times. Not nice.

by Anonymousreply 190September 5, 2020 3:40 PM

Lol R190.

I would call him Ah-Lee, like Muhammed Ali.

I don't know why he goes with the girl's pronunciation of his name, like Alley.

Kind of self-loathing, if you ask me.

by Anonymousreply 191September 5, 2020 6:33 PM

R191, He has a face for radio.

by Anonymousreply 192September 5, 2020 6:57 PM

R191, why would you think you could tell someone how to pronounce their OWN name?

by Anonymousreply 193September 6, 2020 10:49 PM

I really like Joy, yes she's had a few missteps over the years, but those have been rare. She's a great interviewer and I enjoy her analysis of the issues.

by Anonymousreply 194September 6, 2020 11:44 PM

I can't watch Steve Kornacki even for a minute now, he causes me to seizure

by Anonymousreply 195September 6, 2020 11:53 PM

I do find it odd that Kornacki wears the same tan-colored pants anytime he's at that board. Does no one at MSNBC ever think to ask him if he has a pair of another color?

That said, he and Ali Velshi have to be the hardest-working men in cable news. I swear one or the other is on the air every single day.

by Anonymousreply 196September 7, 2020 12:09 AM

R196, gurl we have this conversation about Kornacki allllll the time! It's his "uniform" a la Steve Jobs and Rachel Maddow. Focus on his work and what he's saying, not how glutinous he looks in those khakis! 😍😍

by Anonymousreply 203September 8, 2020 4:28 AM

Seriously, R203???

What's the scoop? Sounds juicy.

by Anonymousreply 204September 8, 2020 4:41 AM

Chuck Todd has the most punchable face in broadcasting.

by Anonymousreply 205September 8, 2020 6:11 PM

The thing that bothers me the most about Chuck Todd is how he'll ask a question, and if the interviewee takes more than 5 seconds to answer, he starts bristling and tries to cut them off. He's the most awkward interviewer I've ever seen.

by Anonymousreply 206September 8, 2020 7:19 PM

I like Nicole Wallace. I mean, she's okay. Do we really need two hours of her?

We didn't get it the first time.

by Anonymousreply 212September 9, 2020 4:30 PM

Last night, Joy confused “oligarchs” with “autocrats.” They’re not synonyms, dear.

by Anonymousreply 213September 9, 2020 4:33 PM

Come on R213 - you're splitting hairs. I think they're close enough. This isn't a covfefe moment.

Oligarch: 1 a ruler in an oligarchy; 2 a very rich business leader with a great deal of political influence. Autocrat: 1 a ruler who has absolute power; 2 someone who insists on complete obedience from others; an imperious or domineering person

by Anonymousreply 214September 9, 2020 5:33 PM

They are not “close enough.” In today’s discourse the oligarchs are Putin’s cronies. Autocrats are dictators like Putin, Erdogan, Kim and Duterte.

At least she treats her audience like adults.

I'm so sick of this fucking mommy frau culture, where the audience are treated like children.

r183, No one can get under Trumptard's skins more than Joy. I remember on her "A.M. Joy" show when it first started she had a Republic on who used the term "Democrat" party. Without skipping a beat, Joy said very calmly and smoothly "On my show it is the Democrat-IC party, my friend." The Republic was so shocked they literally couldn't speak. All she did was call them to task for using the wrong phrase for the Democratic party and they were absolutely flummoxed that anybody would call them to task for that.

I loved Joy for that.

by Anonymousreply 235September 10, 2020 5:00 AM

Is Ari Melber a bit...simple? He mispronounces the most random, non-difficult words.

Yesterday it was "ROCK-chester," New York. Not once, not twice, but throughout the entire segment.

by Anonymousreply 238September 10, 2020 12:40 PM

R238, Bennett Cerf on WML? always pronounced Los Angeles with a hard "g".

by Anonymousreply 239September 10, 2020 2:07 PM

R238. I’ve noticed that too. Ari seems to have trouble with random simple words, it’s weird.

by Anonymousreply 240September 10, 2020 5:17 PM

Andrea just called in to Rachel’s show. She yelled “pussy!” and then slammed the phone down.

by Anonymousreply 241September 11, 2020 1:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 242September 11, 2020 1:21 AM

I have a ridiculous crush on Peter Strzok

by Anonymousreply 243September 11, 2020 1:44 AM

I've also noticed that Ari Melber sometimes mispronounces words that I'd expect him to know (I can't remember any of the words, of course). He may be mispronouncing words he's never seen written before. I guess it's possible for an American his age who's been through law school to never have encountered the name "Rochester" in writing.

by Anonymousreply 263September 13, 2020 4:40 AM

R263, Joshua Johnson is far from being eye candy. He's got an unattractive mouth, like a fish, and bad hair.

Unlike other MSNBC males, JJ has no sex appeal.

The other morning Yasmin Vessoughian broke out in a great big smile and I nearly fell out of my chair.

Even nun-with-a-ruler Stephanie Rhul smiles.

I like that KC got the pre-joe spot.

by Anonymousreply 265September 13, 2020 8:08 AM

Johnson is boring, but I'd take him over Capehart
I guess Kasie Hunt's Sunday political show was not bringing in enough viewers.

Isn't a move to weekdays a promotion of sorts, especially what they say about the early am time slot.

by Anonymousreply 267September 13, 2020 3:43 PM

R267, Kasie's morning show will air at 4-5 am. Most people are still asleep.

by Anonymousreply 268September 13, 2020 4:27 PM

They need to fire that illiterate, race-baiting embarassment "Reverend" Al.

by Anonymousreply 269September 13, 2020 5:00 PM
Kasie's morning show will air at 4-5 am. Most people are still asleep.

Willie Geist used to have that lead-in show to "Morning Joe."

I think it was called "Way Too Early." I remember I texted in one morning, and he read my text on-air. He also had Louis Bergdorf as a sidekick sometimes.

It was an okay show, but basically just a filler to compete with CNN's 4-5 am show.

Louis Burgdorf was fired and is now jobless with a newborn to support.

by Anonymousreply 272September 13, 2020 6:13 PM

Thomas Roberts took over Way Too Early after Willie Geist left to do the Today Show.

Then he got into BIG, BIG trouble with Louis Bergdorf.

I'm assuming that this is why they were both canned from MSNBC.

by Anonymousreply 276September 13, 2020 7:55 PM

I agree, R276. He's "reformed" but never admitted his charlatan past, whether driven by desperation of African Amercan's systemic, racist mistreatment or a simple need to aggrandize himself. He needs to reconcile himself with his past seedy actions.

by Anonymousreply 277September 13, 2020 8:12 PM

Capeheart doesn't have enough gravitas to host his own show. He's too twee, like Vaughn.

by Anonymousreply 278September 13, 2020 8:14 PM

The only show Vaughn should be hosting is his own special take on Make Room For Daddy.

by Anonymousreply 291September 16, 2020 9:58 PM

You could tell that she was really looking forward to the interview and that she intended to be fair.

What a crock of shit.

Andrea wanted to ask him about the Middle East recognition deals that he brokered, but of course he pussied out.

by Anonymousreply 293September 17, 2020 12:26 AM

If Nicolle Wallace doesn't care how her hair looks on national TV, doesn't someone at MSNBC give a shit about it? I used to excuse it because she's having to appear from her basement or wherever and may not have access to the kind of staff needed to help her. But it's been 6 months since the pandemic mode commenced and surely she could at least have managed to get it cut by now! Does she glance in the mirror each day and think she looks just fine? Does that schlubby boyfriend with the collarless black jacket tell her every morning that she's such a natural beauty there's no need to gild the lily by doing something with that drab lank mop? Even just pulling it back in a ponytail with a rubberband would be an improvement.

by Anonymousreply 294September 17, 2020 4:49 AM

She still lapses into a garish necklace occasionally but the change for the better is noticeable.

by Anonymousreply 306September 17, 2020 6:14 PM

R306, Agreed. It's almost like she knew to shape up (pun intended). On the weekends, I really think she did it as a running gag, but needs to be serious on the weekdays.

We also pick apart men too. Folks here definitely felt Johnathan Lemire needed a haircut and I don't watch weekend mornings anymore because of JOHNATHAN CAPEHARTS JAGGED HAIRLINE!!! UGH I'M SO TRIGGERED...

by Anonymousreply 307September 17, 2020 6:25 PM

Reid didn't shape up on her own. Before her move, she did occasional subbing for evening hosts or panel appearances on election nights and still wore ridiculous outfits and weaves.

I'm sure producers and execs who greenlit her 7 pm anchoring had a few choice words with her.

by Anonymousreply 308September 17, 2020 7:19 PM

The Hill: Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews on Monday praised President Trump's “true presidential behavior” regarding the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, prompting backlash primarily from the left on social media, including from former colleague Keith Olbermann.

“Trump is right to show respect for RBG. True presidential behavior. Far too rare,” Matthews tweeted to his more than 950,000 followers.

The post from the former speechwriter to President Jimmy Carter came after Trump said on "Fox & Friends" that he plans to announce his nominee to replace Ginsburg, who died Friday due to complications from pancreatic cancer, on Friday or Saturday.

The president added that he wanted to “pay respect” to Ginsburg by waiting until after her funeral services to announce his nominee.

Joy and her guests spoke about the Breonna Taylor prosecutor’s decision without ever mentioning that her boyfriend shot at the police first. They never mentioned that he was armed or firing at the police at all. I’m not endorsing the AG’s decision, but how can you discuss it without mentioning that the police were being shot at when they fired?

by Anonymousreply 334September 24, 2020 8:53 PM

The BF claims the police never announced themselves and as far as he was concerned, they were armed intruders bursting into his home & simply he was defending himself.

by Anonymousreply 335September 25, 2020 12:34 AM

Additionally, R334 (and R335), by now it's essentially common knowledge, as it has been regularly reported, that Kenneth Walker, Breonna's boyfriend, woke up to what sounded like a break-in, then grabbed and fired his legally registered gun once at those cops, who were indeed armed intruders.

by Anonymousreply 336September 25, 2020 4:49 AM

They were going into details about the shooting. There’s no reason to leave out that Walker fired first. Other MSNBC anchors mentioned it.

by Anonymousreply 337September 25, 2020 5:21 AM

Joy has an agenda. That being said, I still think the boyfriend acted appropriately. His house was being invaded in the middle of the night by armed, unidentified intruders. Don’t Republicans generally approve of people having the right to bear arms to protect yourself against intruders and “stand your ground”?

by Anonymousreply 338September 25, 2020 8:30 AM

Mika was on another tear about the president today, yelling, "You can't tell when the hell he tested positive!" and basically blamed the WH for the city of Washington's overall increasing infection rate.

BTW, for the past couple of days on Morning Joe I've noticed Jonathan Lemire seems to have moved away from that brick wall that's been behind him for the past several months. (The attached pic is for R382.)

Oh and I have to mention this: on NBC's Evening News on Sunday night, the anchor (Kate Snow) meant to say "the world's most important patient" when talking about Trump at Walter Reed, but it instead came out as, "The world's most impatient - most [bold]important[/bold] patient . . ."

Ari Velshi must sleep, shower and keep a change of clothes at MSNBC. He hosted Brian Williams show last night and now here he is.

Do those studios have little studio apartments for use of the on-air personalities? Of course in the pandemic, if they do they're probably not available but just wondering.

Katty Kay is on a Morning Joe panel, and her living room is hideous!

Hideous color, hideous furniture, hideous everything.

A green chair, ugly flower painting, another chair that looks like it's covered in material that resembles a flowered comforter, and what looks to be dresser drawers built into a wall, next to a fireplace.

HIDEOUS!!!

Is this a British thing, or does she just have really, really bad taste?

by Anonymousreply 412October 12, 2020 10:21 AM

by Anonymousreply 415October 12, 2020 10:45 AM

R413 My dad watches the news constantly. As soon as the reporting-from-home thing started, he began to rant to me about the book shelves that everyone placed behind their cameras. He said he can buy someone like John Meacham’s home office has a library behind the desk, but everyone else is a pretentious asshole trying to curate some kind of intellectual statement by carefully arranging certain books behind them. I thought his annoyance was funny but there’s definitely truth to it. I’m sure most of these people rearranged their furniture so that they could have a wall of ‘smart book’ behind them.

by Anonymousreply 416October 12, 2020 10:49 AM

Funny you just mentioned that R416, because I was staring at all the books behind David Ignatius who is another guest on Morning Joe.

And yeah, I totally believe that he reads all of these books. The guy is smart.

I took a screen shot for you.

by Anonymousreply 417October 12, 2020 10:56 AM

R417 I don’t think my dad doubts that the people on camera read the books they own. It’s more the pretense of always happening to have one’s camera aimed at one’s walls of books. Someone above criticized Katty Kay’s living room style, but I give her credit for not rearranging her house so that she can make herself look like an intellectual courtesy of a home library.

R442 A college or university trustee is a member of the board that governs a higher education institution. The board is made up of community representatives and collectively is legally responsible for ensuring that the institution operates according to its mission, that it is financially sound, etc. Public college and university board trustees are locally elected like school board members are or appointed (usually) by the state governor and usually are community leaders, such as businesspeople—lawyers, doctors, small business owners or business execs. Private university board members are selected by other members of the board or college alums. Public boards typically focus on financial oversight and students’ outcomes, whereas private board such as that of Notre Dame do a lot more fundraising, so they tend to be highly connected (and therefore in my opinion more likely to have conflicts of interest and to be corrupt) operators. At Notre Dame, I’d expect board members to be mostly conservative Catholics or if not then to really rake in money or broker major relationships for the university.

Boards don’t do any of the work of a university/college. They receive reports and approve or reject what they are given by a collective vote. Their biggest job besides ensuring fiscal solvency is to hire, evaluate and fire the college president. The board is the boss of the president, setting broad goals that the president is responsible for carrying out, and those goals can range from fundraising targets to increasing graduation rates to (this should never happen but it does) awarding major contracts to their companies or their friends’ businesses.

by Anonymousreply 448October 13, 2020 5:18 AM

Thank you, R448. I'm surprised Costa's a trustee - and even more surprised that he might be a conservative Catholic. Interesting.

by Anonymousreply 449October 13, 2020 5:59 AM

I admire the way Costa lost weight and has kept it off. He must be quite disciplined.

by Anonymousreply 450October 13, 2020 6:09 AM

R449 I’m not surprised. High-profile alums usually are asked to serve on a board for prestige, because it pays dividends in recognition and esteem by association whether or not they are very engaged. You can look at any college or university board list and most names won’t be known to you even though most of the people are wealthy or connected to wealth. But once you see a famous name, you’ll stop, think “Oh!” and you’ll associate the institution with someone familiar and probably somewhat esteemed. It’s very good PR. And of course for the person, it’s a major feather in their cap to be assigned to a notable higher ed institution governing board. It’s prestigious and also very rewarding for an ego that likes power but can claim public service.

The Notre Dame board of trustees is ridiculously huge. They must be a rubber stamp type board; there’s no way this many people can actually do the work of a governing board productively if many of them are actively engaged. They’ve got to be there mainly to rake in cash. The chair is the former chairman of Vanguard—$$$$$$.

It's a matter of prestige for the members and they may profit from the association. But the university / college's goal is definitely to rake in cash FROM them. Board members or Trustees are chosen for their name and/or their money. The expectation is they will be either principal donors (seven figures) themselves or facilitate fundraising through their connections or name and reputation.

by Anonymousreply 484October 20, 2020 9:33 PM
... is [Nicolle Wallace] down with the Lincoln Project??? Seems a bit too conflict of interest for me although I generally support it.

Well, R482, she's fucking "NY Times" reporter Michael Schmidt, who frequently appears as a guest on her show. I'm not aware that either of them has revealed this to the public, though they've apparently told MSNBC about it and been cleared to continue the professional relationship without disclosing the personal one to the audience. So a little thing like being long-time pals with a founder of the Lincoln Project (who frequently appears as a guest on her show, just like Mikey) hardly seems to matter. I don't care one way or the other, but do find journalistic "ethics" to be confusing on occasion.

by Anonymousreply 485October 21, 2020 1:22 AM

Nicolle Wallace was a Republican; she is no longer. She left the party over....wait for it.....TRUMP.

by Anonymousreply 486October 21, 2020 1:59 AM

R485, last I heard, they split up. Did they get back together?

by Anonymousreply 488October 21, 2020 2:02 AM

I haven't heard that they broke up, R488 -- if they did, I haven't heard whether they got back together.

R487, Michael Schmidt and Steve Schmidt are 2 different people (and not related as far as I know). I don't know what political party (if any) Michael belongs to. Steve was a Republican but may have left the party by now and is a founder of the Lincoln Project.

by Anonymousreply 489October 21, 2020 2:16 AM

Nicolle can do better than Michael Schmidt

by Anonymousreply 490October 21, 2020 11:39 AM

Joe and Mika, Nicolle and dude of the day...for a supposedly Democratic news network, MSNBC sure does harbor a lot of horny Republicans who get around with their colleagues. Between that and NBC counterprogramming for Trump to compete against Biden, protecting Lauer, protecting Weinstein, the lascivious stuff at NBC networks seems to outdo even Fox News’s antics with Roger Ailes.

Are NBC News Christmas parties just big Baby Boomer orgies?

Just only 20-30 years ago it would have just been a panel of all white men....

by Anonymousreply 493October 23, 2020 12:25 AM

Joy Reid has stuck with this weave since she got the 7 pm show. Her producers deserve a raise just for that.

by Anonymousreply 494October 23, 2020 6:48 AM

Did you catch when Joy said the right has been attacking Hillary for 40 years?

by Anonymousreply 495October 23, 2020 6:58 AM

Every MSNBC host got the memo that no discussion of the Thursday debate will be complete without praising Kristen Welker to the heavens

by Anonymousreply 496October 25, 2020 1:13 AM

For you Steve Kornacki fans he has an election special show on Sunday Oct 25 at 10pm EDT.

by Anonymousreply 497October 25, 2020 1:51 AM

R496, that's "our (very) own Kristen Welker", aka "my (good) friend and colleague Kristen Welker". I always wonder if their pay gets docked any time they say the name without the preamble.

What's not to love about Kristin Welker? She did do a great job at the debate and she is consistently poised, professional, and, as they show on the video below, unflappable.

I can’t stand those Rachel Maddie commercials where she tries to sound uber-intellectual while saying something of no importance. “Watch what they do, not what they say.” Gee thanks Captain Obvious.

by Anonymousreply 512November 2, 2020 2:05 PM

I love when Rachel goes all anti-Russian Intel.

She wears it well.

by Anonymousreply 513November 2, 2020 8:14 PM

I'm sad to say that I didn't watch MSNBC's election night coverage.

I can't stand Joy Reid and her self-righteousness, so I watched CNN instead.

It wasn't completely terrible. But they are kind of boring.

I miss the days of Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann.

Now it's a politically correct SJW and FrauFest on MSNBC, doing the election night coverage.

by Anonymousreply 514November 4, 2020 9:31 AM
I can't stand Joy Reid and her self-righteousness, so I watched CNN instead.

Joy Reid didn’t have much to say because her usual spiel about “record Black turnout will decide the election” turned out not to be true. It’s white people in the Rust Belt who will decide the election as it usually is.

by Anonymousreply 515November 4, 2020 10:14 AM

Stupid Joy Reid asked Steve Kornacki "When will the call be made, announcing Joe Biden the winner????" on Thursday night's election coverage.

She was acting like an ignorant, petulant child. When? When? When??? I want it now!!!!!

Rachel shut that shit down, spoke to the camera, and said "I just wanted to clarify that we have no control over when the announcement of a winner will be made. We have nothing to do with that."

Bwaahahahaha. She made Joy Reid look SO stupid!! And rightfully so.

by Anonymousreply 546November 6, 2020 6:09 AM

Joy Reid’s pussy smells like unrefrigerated for a month Limburger cheese.

by Anonymousreply 547November 6, 2020 6:23 AM

I still find it weird that the machine votes went to Trump and the unhackable paper ballots went to Biden.

Putin knows.

We need to move to 100% mail ballot. 100% auditable record.

2018 did not have Trump on the Ballot. Blue Wave. Hmmm.

Not one dime of election security money spent by Red States. Hmmm.

This explains the 3% shift in WI and MI on machines. Were they updated since 2016?

There WAS a Blue Wave that was stolen by Putin AGAIN!

by Anonymousreply 548November 6, 2020 11:53 AM

R560, I saw that too. NBC seems to have established testing for the staff. I was trying to determine what the hospital like bands on Kornacki's wrists are and figured it had something to do with that.

This week long coverage was really not necessary. If y'all know they ain't counting votes seriously, let the staff go home and keep one producer & anchor to cut in for Breaking News.

And where was our "I hate Willie Heist" train?? When y'all posted that video of him trashing Rosie O'donnell, like his name was Trump Jr, I lost all respect for him.

Even better.... NO JOY REID!!! Sorry, Covid Karen!

by Anonymousreply 573November 7, 2020 6:50 PM

Back on DL after several months away so forgive me if this has already been discussed but have you all noticed the coolness between Chris Hayes and Rachel in the last months? They barely speak as he cues her show. I think he's furious that he wasn't chosen to be a part of the debate and election night triumvirate of Rachel, Joy and Nicolle. I'm assuming Rachel chose the two ladies for the panel. And because he has the 8 pm slot he was completely off the air for many nights during the most important time of the year.

And lately Joy and Lawrence are chatting up a storm together whereas once there was so much coolness and awkwardness. Lawrence is really fawning over her every chance he gets.

Anyone else notice this stuff?

by Anonymousreply 574November 7, 2020 11:59 PM

Yes, I noticed it R574 . Also, when Rachel appeared during Joy's segment tonight, first Joy mentioned needing an excuse to have Nicole, Rachel, and Joy back together because the three of them bonded during the election coverage. Rachel sincerely agreed; her tone struck me. Wrapping up, Joy said she considered Rachel family and talked about Rachel coming to her family barbecues. Then she called Rachel "sister" and told her she loves her. Rachel reciprocated. Even my aunt exclaimed, "I thought they didn't get along?!" Something about that group dynamic has changed.

I used to like Chris Hayes and found him very attractive. But yes, something about him has changed and I notice his smarmy intellectual superior attitude has ramped up. During a Kornacki segment, Hayes would ask him questions and begin interrupting even as Steve was trying to answer as if Hayes already knew the answer. It was really annoying and made Hayes out to be an arrogant asshole. Maybe Rachel also sees this and is trying to distance herself from Hayes. Rachel doesn't suffer fools easily. But yeah, something has definitely changed among that group.

by Anonymousreply 575November 8, 2020 2:22 AM

Joy was acting like a child earlier.

She had on Michael Steele, David Plouffe, and another guest, and she was openly gloating and mocking Trump during her segment.

Though I have no problem mocking Trump as a private citizen, I think it's tacky and immature for a news station anchor to behave like that.

I was actually embarassed for her.

by Anonymousreply 576November 8, 2020 2:30 AM

All these awful horrifying inhumane things you all claim Joy Reid is doing I never see so are we supposed to automatically believe the DL Joy Reid observation team?

by Anonymousreply 577November 8, 2020 3:45 AM

I love Joy. I like Chris, too, but do think his hand-offs with Rachel have become less chatty. And if it does have anything to do with him getting bumped from election night coverage, I don't get why he should get mad at her. Wouldn't MSNBC producers make those kinds of decisions?

by Anonymousreply 578November 8, 2020 4:41 AM

I have to admit I didn't like Joy at first. But after hearing her gushing about the Biden/Harrison win and how excited she is with Lawrence O'Donnell on the phone Saturday afternoon then her exchange with Rachel I described at R575 , I'm warming up to her.
