It really does suck for her. Maybe they're planning a huge reception after the pandemic.
On the other hand, what with her father's troubles, maybe having to have a small wedding was for the best.

I'm happy for them. A big, splashy wedding can be such an entertainment, but their marriage faced so many hurdles that a small, private wedding ensures the more important elements are still in place. They're already living together, and it was wonderful that Bea's grandparents were able to attend in relative safety. She's never deserved to suffer for her parents' misdeeds.

I don’t understand why anyone would want that huge public wedding. This seems like a gift to them - not having the pressure of being on stage. Unless they are attention whores - which isn’t the vibe I get. Goldigger maybe.

I'm shocked, I thought she'd hold out of the big white wedding, coach, the whole enchilada....
However, with the arrest of Ghislaine (or however you spell it), perhaps the BRF anticipates that things are about to go from bad to worse for Andrew and that perhaps Bea should enjoy this brief calm before the storm to get married.

by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 17, 2020 1:44 PM |
The Queen must be very pleased Bea did it this way. I’m sure she appreciates what a sacrifice that was for her.
But from the practical point of view, it’s much easier for all of them. This way, her father could walk her down the aisle and go to the reception without controversy, her mother could be her weird self without scandal, her grandparents could attend without having to fear their health. They probably had to quarantine for weeks ahead so anyone could come. And maybe the lack of press and family only is a relief for them. It’s like a wartime wedding.
I’m wondering how living through all this is going to affect the next generation. I’m kind of hoping this next generation will learn self sacrifice, like the Greatest Generation, from all this. The effects will be with us for a long time.

Beatrice's problem has not been her bulging Queen Victoria eyes or her horse mouth.
It's been the intense security profile every man she ever dated must pass.
Count Mozzi must have passed, otherwise the Queen would never have stood witness to their wedding.

As R67 pointed out, this was the perfect solution. Avoids the controversies surrounding Bea's parents, avoids accusations of excess in a time of austerity and uncertainty, allows her grandparents to be there, and is done so quickly and quietly that the Sussexes can't step on her spotlight. Nicely done, Bea.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 17, 2020 2:23 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 17, 2020 2:25 PM |
The photos of Archie are an obvious bid for attention on Bea's special day, but since the Sussexes were almost certainly not given advance word of the wedding, Meghan didn't have time to come up with anything better. By the time she does, Bea will have had her moment. Again, nicely done by the BRF.

R95, she’s not. Like most borderlines, she acts on impulse and with her “emotions”, which are unregulated. If she’d put any thought and planning into what she did, she’d be a lot better off.

Bea's wedding hit the news at noon UK time. The picture of Archie dropped at 5:30 AM California time, about 90 minutes after the wedding announcement.
Coincidence? I think not.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | July 17, 2020 2:35 PM |
No nutter at r92, I'm in no way, shape or form a Megstan, but people seem to be confusing "in the presence of" with "acted as witness", which is not what in the presence of means.

by Anonymous | reply 104 | July 17, 2020 2:56 PM |
The timing of the Instagram photo is sort of hilarious. We know that Meghan gets up at 5 AM--she must have gotten up, had her shot of wheatgrass juice, checked her phone, freaked out, and rushed to put up a photo of Archie in a desperate attempt to take the edge of Bea's publicity. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there's some other attention-grabbing announcement tomorrow, the day that Bea's wedding photos are supposed to drop.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | July 17, 2020 2:56 PM |
R102 Of course. As Dominick Dunne said, "I like climbers. They interest me."
by Anonymous | reply 106 | July 17, 2020 2:57 PM |

R105 It's such a weird compulsion.

Were Harry and Meghan invited to the wedding? Fun to imagine they weren't. The family line was probably, "It's going to be VERY small and private, of course we don't expect you and Meghan to take the risk to travel." I wonder if they were given any details as to place and time. I'd be concerned they would leak the info.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | July 17, 2020 3:07 PM |
Harry and Meghan are invited to nothing, ever, until the funerals.
Just like Wallace.

by Anonymous | reply 111 | July 17, 2020 3:13 PM |
I guarantee that Harry and Meghan were not invited. The BRF has a perfect excuse, what with the exploding infection rates in California. Also, notice that there's no word that the Cambridges came. I'm sure they would have liked to, but by not having them there, the Sussexes can't cry favoritism. There's even the built-in excuse that Be and Edo couldn't wait any longer (for a time when their Royal cousins could be there), as the Queen is planning to leave for Balmoral tomorrow. Really, the whole thing was perfectly timed and executed.

If Meghan and Harry were planning all along to leave, they could have done the decent thing and rejected the title upgrade, the expensive public wedding, and the grace-and-favor house. But that would have denied them the profile boost they were aiming for as a way of financing their departure. It was a grift from start to finish, and for what? R98 Actually people with borderline personality disorder do not have unregulated emotions, rather it’s dysregulated emotions which get activated into impulsive and harmful behavior. Unregulated emotions may be normal under circumstances. Dysregulation go a step further into deliberately harmful, unhinged, and devious territory. That’s why it is so hard to treat this personality disorder. I don’t think Meghan is BDP she’s just an awful, shitty person who doesn’t even deserve mental disorder as an excuse.
Back to Bea, I think the couple likely had no choice but to have a small wedding. Things won’t be back to normal until next spring and even then I doubt QE would be on board with a big wedding like what Eugenie had especially with the economy in recovery mode. So the platitudes for Bea and Edo for their thrift and consideration are most likely forced upon them. Also why would Bea risk a longer engagement with Edo thinking that having Andrew as FIL is a business liability? Better to do it now than have more shit go wrong, nothing to do consideration but more to do with writing on the wall and public relations/ optics.

Edo’s don will be very good looking when older. Wonder if he’s now to be included in the (second) cousins gatherings with the Cambridge children among others. Is Edo social climber enough to insist upon it and does Bea consider the kid as her own family? I’m sure she’s been playing stepmom to him already seeing as his mom travels and works internationally.

R149 why would the stepson of a low-ranking Royal get a title?
by Anonymous | reply 155 | July 17, 2020 7:38 PM |
R154, Bea was already supposedly caring for Edo's son, and his former fiance actually welcomed Bea to their family, which I think was a very positive act.
[quote]WATCHING your ex and the father of your child beaming into the cameras as he announces his engagement to a princess can’t be easy. But yesterday Dara Huang – former partner of Princess Beatrice’s husband-to-be Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi – responded to their happy news with a kind and classy short statement.
[quote]She said: “I wish the best for Edo and Beatrice and look forward to uniting our families.” The reaction was characteristically dignified for the American architect, mum to Edo’s two-year-old son Christopher 'Woolfie' Woolf. Despite the three-year relationship ending abruptly, with Edo dating Beatrice just weeks after their split - she has stayed silent and refused to condemn her ex-fiancee.

Conflicts with their diaries or Covid-19 excuses or something along those lines might have kept them from attending...they'll say.

Meghan and Harry heading out for California was never the issue, R185. It was the two of them heading out for California after first fleecing the British taxpayer for a wedding and a renovated mansion, not to mention the receipt of two brand-new titles that will never be used for public service. Oh, and the fact that they're still living off of Charles, whose own money from the Duchy of Cornwall has a public element to it. If Meghan and Harry had announced at the engagement interview that they were planning to eschew the Royal dukedom and large public wedding and would soon move to California to pursue opportunities there, in the meantime living off of their personal fortunes, I'd have been the first to applaud them.

Mess up the mess they call a town- A house for ninety-seven down And once a week a half a crown For twenty years.
And get that man with double chin Who'll always cheat and always win, Who washes his repulsive skin In women's tears:
And smash his desk of polished oak And smash his hands so used to stroke And stop his boring dirty joke And make him yell.
But spare the bald young clerks who add The profits of the stinking cad; It's not their fault that they are mad, They've tasted Hell.
It's not their fault they do not know The birdsong from the radio, It's not their fault they often go To Maidenhead
And talk of sport and makes of cars In various bogus-Tudor bars And daren't look up and see the stars But belch instead.
In labour-saving homes, with care Their wives frizz out peroxide hair And dry it in synthetic air And paint their nails.
Come, friendly bombs and fall on Slough To get it ready for the plough. The cabbages are coming now; The earth exhales.

The Daily Mail says this is the first royal wedding "behind closed doors" for 235 years. But don't the minor royals usually have private weddings, anyway? Eugenie seemed to be the exception, not the rule. I suppose it's a bit different because they didn't pose for the press outside afterwards.

The best thing Edward and Sophie ever did for Louise was not having her styled HRH Princess Louise. It allows her to keep a lower profile and avoid some of the vitriol that was thrown at her cousins.

Her parents and grandparents, sister and her husband, his parents, kid, brother, half-siblings or step-siblings, an aunt, uncle or cousin, a few friends. These are mainly guesses, but it's not that difficult to get to 20.

Princess Alexandra and the Duchesses of Kent and Gloucester all had semi-public weddings. The only entirely private wedding I can recall is Prince Michael to the divorced, Catholic Marie-Christine von Reibnitz (a/k/a our very own Princess Michael of Kent).
Bea is eigth in line for the throne - a private wedding amidst a global pandemic isn't exactly mysterious.
The tabloids are dragging her probably very sweet and romantic wedding in the mud.
Next time Meghan complains about how she and she alone was dragged by the tabs someone should show her the headlines on poor Bea's wedding.
It's as if she fled to Gretna Green with him.
The Chapel at Windsor is beautiful. She probably wore the gown that was nearly ready when the wedding got cancelled, the flowers from what we saw looked beautiful, her engagement ring is gorgeous (and totally eclipses that tawdry boring unimaginative thing Harry gave Meghan), and she had her nearest and dearest there including the Sovereign and her husband. My guess is that the 15-20 people also included Fergie, Charles and Camilla, and the Cambridges, and Eugenie and Jack.
With her stepson, that would round up to only 11.

[quote] They’re all Tories. The lot of them. The Queen, Charles, Camilla, William, Kate - and Harry too until he met Meghan.
With a few exceptions, the Queen has usually liked and gotten along better with Labour Prime Ministers than she has with the Tory ones. She's been pretty good at not showing any political bias, and to not do so is part of her "job". The Queen Mother was quite fond of a number of Labour politicians, but her views were very right wing. Until he was in his 30s, Charles definitely known to favour predominately Labour views and the courtiers really had to rein him in. As he has gotten older, like most people, he's likely quite conservative now. Camilla, yes, Tory through and through, but now only privately because of her membership in the Royal Family.
Princess Margaret was no doubt a Tory at heart, but had very little interest in being informed about politics, unless something popped up that might curtail her freedoms and privileges.
Prince Philip's maternal grandmother was a pronounced socialist, but because she was born a princess, she really wasn't taken seriously in her views. Dickie Mountbatten was left wing and his wife a claimed to be a socialist. And while they were overall serious in their political beliefs, they flagged a bit when taxation threatened their enormous wealth. Prince Philip shared some of his relatives radical views which set off huge alarms in the Royal Court when it became obvious Princess Elizabeth would be marrying him. And when I say Philip had radical ideas, I mean they were certainly radical for that time, but by today's standards they'd be thought of as moderately progressive.

Beatrice is ninth in line for the throne, not eighth. (1) Charles, (2) William, (3) George, (4) Charlotte, (5) Louis, (6) Harry, (7) Archie, (8) Andrew, (9) Beatrice. With Harry not living in the UK, Beatrice could be asked to be a Counsellor of State, which is made up of the monarch's consort and the first four adults in the succession if they are living in the UK. That would be (1) Philip, (2) Charles, (3) William, (4) Andrew, and (5) if Harry is out, Beatrice. Suddenly, she's important!

R296 - Crikey, it's true! It's a new replica of a Hartnell.
She looks really sweet, and yes, it does fit. It's perfect for an intimate spring wedding and if only how it will piss off Meghan Markle I'm delighted to see a major tiara instead of one of the minor lend-outs (except for the ones she lends Kate, of course).
The Queen is announcing to all and sundry that this an adored granddaughter and Princess of the Blood.
No one - but NO ONE, has worn that tiara but top tier royals: Mary (who wore it first, I think), the Queen Mother, QEII, the Princess Royal at her wedding.
It is truly a loving gesture to her granddaughter.

It's sweet that she wore her grandmother's dress and wedding tiara. I believe Anne also wore it at her wedding. I assume this means that HM has retired from wearing the fringe and it will be used by Beatrice or Eugenie and their daughters.
I guess this puts to rest the question about what happened to the tiara the queen had made as a wedding present for Fergie. Probably sold at an inflated price to some middle eastern potentate or one of Andrew's scummy friends from one of the stans to pay off her debts.

Great choice. The Queen loves those two girls, seems to offer support and protection as best she can by showing the world her approval with the truly “big gun” tiaras. She probably has her favorite grandchildren, but favorite can be different things. Peter a favorite as the first, William, the favorite as the heir, Bea and Eugenie the favorites with their f&cked up parents.

It's the perfect message to send in a time of austerity and uncertainty: continuity, family, and tradition, all signaled by a vintage dress (by a British designer) and a grand tiara worn by the Queen herself at her wedding. Whatever Andrew's current status, the Queen is indicating her favor and protection of Beatrice. Nicely done!

Let's face it, this was very likely the last wedding of one of her grandchildren The Queen will live to see (and most certainly the last one with Prince Philip attending). In that respect, providing the bride with the Fringe Tiara - the very one tiara she wore at her own wedding - is particularly poignant.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | July 18, 2020 9:48 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 325 | July 18, 2020 9:48 PM |
It's definitely the last grandchild wedding HM will attend if Louise and James follow the traditional marriage age for this generation of royal grandchildren. Every one of them was around 30 when they got married (the youngest was Eugenie at 28 and the oldest was Harry at 33). Possibly even Charles won't be around for Louise and James' weddings.

So we're looking at 15 years before the next major Royal wedding unless Louise breaks tradition and marries young, and given that she's not styled an HRH it will probably be a low-key event. We all just have to wait for George and Charlotte in a quarter-century or so.

She won't necessarily always be not styled as such.
Her parents have given her the option of choosing to go by the title HRH the Princess Louise of Wessex after she turns 18.

It would be very unlikely, not to mention pointless, for the Wessex kids to use their full titles. They're dynastically irrelevant (barring a King Ralph scenario) and will have to live as private wealthy citizens.

The Cambridges didn't attend, neatly sidestepping the problem of explaining to Harry why he wasn't invited.
Who knows - they may have decided to do it this way partly to ensure they wouldn't have to have Andrew being seen walking her down the aisle, and partly so they wouldn't have to invite the dreaded Harkles, who would have elicited boos from the crowd if this was a public wedding, and whose presence would have marred the day in about ten different ways.

To be honest - this strikes me as a much nicer wedding than the Sussexes had, for all its straining at "Big Royal".
There's something very nice about it. The tabloids are being as nasty as they can be - they act as if COVD had absolutely nothing to do with it, forgetting that if Andrew had been a paragon of virtue, the pandemic still would have gotten the May wedding cancelled.
But that's who they are and what they do. Someone send a memo to L.A. on the subject.

She looked okay, not great but not sloppy either like how vintage dresses can look on today's figures but I suppose the tailors worked their magic on making that dress fit Bea. She does look genuinely happy.
Glad to see that DLers on this thread aren't going after Edo's ex Dara like the crazy pro-BRF loons on Tumblr and on some DM comments. To the point of attacking Edo's ex and judging her for having a kid with him (apparently it's all her fault for getting knocked up), her IG selfies, her clothes, or even just wearing shorts when out at lunch yesterday with friends. It isn't her fault that DM had stalked her having lunch and taken photos of her. Now these loons are trying to lump her with Meghan who's truly deserving of disdain.
Bea is a likable woman but really weren't she and her sister being criticized for taking expensive vacations paid by Andrew and hardly ever working at their jobs? Now all of a sudden she's a saint for having a small and private wedding when the question was why should she have had a big, produced affair like Eugenie did? That was also undeserved for a daughter of the Queen's second son. Both are princesses who seem nice and shouldn't be judged by their creepy dad's misdeeds. But both are also nothing special looks or talent-wise. Gimme some real entertainment like Fergie and her whoring around, it's vastly more interesting. I'm just here for the implosion, Edo is a climber like Meghan and there's something off about him.

These "poor Bea" posters are hilarious. This gurl has worked less than Paris Hilton. All she did was pretend to work, go on vacation, spend Grandma's money, and use her title to get ahead. Now she's an aging princes that lucked up and found an attractive social climber. They will continue to live in palaces and expensive country homes. There is nothing poor about this story. They are far down the line of succession and their father is a pedo, the public didn't need to see their wedding.

r380 has no idea what they are talking about. Harry and Meghan make the rest of the BRF look fantastic. The BRF is more beloved today than they've been for a while, despite the difficult year.
The single exception is Andrew because there's no making him look good - but, there was no way of making him look good since Koo Stark, and everyone in Britain has disliked him for decades, so no loss there.
by Anonymous | reply 385 | July 19, 2020 2:17 AM |
Andrew was popular when he was handsome, and that lasted through Koo Stark to about the time of his marriage to Fergie. Then he got thick-waisted and homely.
by Anonymous | reply 386 | July 19, 2020 2:21 AM |
R385 It’s a draw. Meghan and Harry leaving for money and fame haven’t paid themselves any dividends, instead the British people can’t stand them now. The RF got the wrong sort of spotlight shined on it and people do question why it needs public funding. However, the RF had certain members step up in the aftermath particularly in light of COVID-19. So now the family has regained some respect back. It’ll continue to exist for now and certainly long past the Sussexes’ skid into obscurity.

[quote] No one - but NO ONE, has worn that tiara but top tier royals: Mary (who wore it first, I think), the Queen Mother, QEII, the Princess Royal at her wedding.
Yes, Queen Mary wore it first. It was made for her. It was later worn by the Queen for her wedding and then again by Princess Anne for her first wedding. The Queen Mother never wore it as it Queen Mary's personal property and left it to the present Queen. The Queen Mother wore a similar fringe tiara known by various names...the George III Fringe, Queen Adelaide's Tiara, the Hanoverian Fringe. Queen Victoria was given it by her aunt, Queen Adelaide and Victoria incorporated it as part of the Crown Collection (not to be confused with the Crown Jewels). As with the Delhi Durbar Tiara and the Indian Ruby Tiara, when the Queen came to throne, she allowed the Hanoverian Fringe Tiara to be used by her mother solely for the Queen Mother's lifetime.
[quote] I believe the Kents also have a very similar fringe tiara. Pss. Michael of Kent has worn it on occasion.
Yes, it belonged to Princess Marina, although Princess Michael has altered it slightly. The fringe tiara was one of two owned by Marina's mother, the Grand Duchess Helen of Russia. The other fringe was given to Marina's sister Princess Elizabeth, Countess of Toerring-Jettenbach. I believe it is still in the Toerring-Jettenbach family. The third daughter of Grand Duchess Helen received her mother's ruby and diamond parure. This was bought back by the main line of the Greek Royal Family and is now worn by ex-Queen Anne-Marie.

Eug wasn't forced to have a big wedding. If she had wanted a small wedding, who would've cared besides Andy? If not for Corona and the Andrew disaster, Bea would've been happy to do the same. The sparkle and crowd were what Eugenie wanted. And most importantly, she has a man who is clearly head over heels in love.
by Anonymous | reply 422 | July 19, 2020 6:22 AM |
She dressed in maternity clothes - with the coat buttoned at the top but not the bottom, so that from the moment she stepped out of the car, the news began speculating, just as she planned.
Then she went around the service telling everyone she met that she was pregnant. Then she kept doing it at the reception, and the two of them were apparently asked to leave early.
This was the moment the family really understood how cheap and nasty she was.
Face it: She's a whore, darlin'.

Kate and Wills, and Charles and Camilla, were none of them at the service (although they might have gone to the lunch afterwards).

You clearly don't know the story, r427. They enraged the entire clan with their rudeness. It was a major turning point. They lost the Kensington Palace apt planned for them in the days after Yuge's wedding, and in the weeks after the wedding, it was reported that Meghan was being denied access to the Queen's jewels.
It's no accident that this wedding was held in a way that could avoid having Meghan and Harry attend.

by Anonymous | reply 430 | July 19, 2020 6:53 AM |
Oh god, please. She looked horrible, and not particularly happy. He's a mess of a match for her. Speaking of messy matches, nothing in her ensemble went together with any sort of elegance or panache. Yuge on the other hand looked truly fantastic. I remember on Yuge's day that many of us were ready to drag her, but as it unfolded, most of us cunts ended up cheering for her. That was a fun time.
Bea looked like her drunk mother dressed her while wearing a blindfold. If the photos released were the best they could find, it must have been even more tragic looking than we even know. The only kind thing I can think to say is that HM and the DoE looked in good spirits.

Beatrice’s tiara and vintage gown were huge statements of support from the Queen. She will likely be the last grandchild to have both Elizabeth and Philip at a family wedding and that is poignant itself. Very inspired choices and what a way to make lemonade out of lemons!
If I had to critique , I wish she would redden her hair a bit and I wish she had better makeup. She and her sister both look way better when their faces are polished with a little color, and she has dark circles that should have been camouflaged.
by Anonymous | reply 435 | July 19, 2020 9:02 AM |
It's possible that she is pregnant but, given that it would not be possible to have had the type of wedding they had originally planned for perhaps 2 years anyway, and her grandparents are very old not to mention possible complications with her father on the horizon maybe they just decided to get married now because there's never going to be a right time.

I love it. The dress is lovely and really suits her, soft, romantic, set off with her long loose-curled hair and being symbolic of the queen’s favor and suitable for a simple ceremony in the plague years. She’s worn some tacky outfits over the years, her taste is questionable but this was perfect.
If she’d had a big elaborate wedding like Eugenie, the dress would not have worked, it isn’t grand enough. But for a small, informal event—albeit attended by the queen—it was an excellent choice.

Something about that photo of Bea peeking out of the Chapel door under that enormous arch of pink and white flowers is terribly endearing and romantic. That one photo captured something that nothing in the far more expensive Sussex wedding did.
Bea is neither terribly pretty nor terribly stylish, but she has pretty skin and hair and a decent hourglass sort of figure, not unlike the Queen's in her twenties, so it's not surprising the Hartnell dress worked on her without too much time to spare. I believe Bea is about the same height as the Queen was then, as well.
Bea doesn't look beautiful but she does look authentically lit up with love and happiness, and the dress and the added organza sleeves and one of her grandmother's most prestigious tiaras were, as a totality, inspired for the look of a summer country wedding with a little touch of royal glamour.
by Anonymous | reply 461 | July 19, 2020 12:35 PM |
Lovely wedding, lovely dress and lovely tiara, but stop trying to convince us that the bride is “not terribly pretty”, she is an eyesore and hardto look at, lets call a spade a spade. She gets PR points for this small wedding for sure, it made the news but is not inviting as much scrutiny.

The problem with the dress, for me, was the hemline. When a contrasting pic was shown next to the queen wearing the dress, where the hemline is tucked under to form an elegant ballon effect, Bea’s rendition appeared a tad too short, and thus, less elegant...but she looked radiantly happy, which went a long way towards compensating for any shortcomings with the dress...
by Anonymous | reply 465 | July 19, 2020 12:50 PM |
R465 - I thought so, too, at first, but when the Queen wore it, the dress was a mature woman's ballgown, with no sleeves, just straps.
On review, I think the long balloon hem would have worked against the soft puffy organza sleeves, and the shortened hem works better with the slightly "country milkmaid but with tiara" look they correctly aimed for given the size of the wedding.
I note that the veil must have a floor length bit in back that we haven't seen yet, you can see a bit of it gathered behind Bea in the fully outdoor photo.
I do hope they publish more photos, I'd like to the back of the dress and veil.

Rolls eyes at R433.
The "wee wedding" was so Bea could marry her fiance rather than waiting another year.
And she isn't an "aging Princess" she's all of 31 - she is only two years older than Kate was when she married William, and one year younger than Mary Donaldson was when she married Crown Prince Frederik and five years younger than Lady Gabriella Windsor (Pss. Michael of Kent's daughter) was when she got married last year.
But that she wanted to get married and have her own family and stop going to other people's weddings is without doubt true, but that wouldn't make her terribly different from many other women of that age interested in having children - even if they won't admit it in public.
by Anonymous | reply 467 | July 19, 2020 1:11 PM |
R466, “country milkmaid but with tiara”, while somewhat brutal, is an apt description of the overall look...lol...

Oof, in the up-close picture those sleeves do look awkward, don't they? They should have removed the straps altogether and done a yoke and sleeves. Either that, or they should have gone with the time-honored tradition of making a simple shrug to go over a strapped or strapless wedding gown to make it suitable for church.
Of the 3 York wedding gowns, Eugenie's definitely wins.

Buggy eyes and big overbite are not features of beauty. She is not beautiful not even an odd one. Rather she has distinguishing features that keep her from being entirely forgettable. Not a generic face but not pretty let alone beautiful. Love how diehard BRF fans are now trying to make her sound like a beauty. She looked happy and charming on her wedding day. But don’t let the fact that in the years leading up to it she and her sister were regularly slammed for taking luxury vacations more than working. Why, it’s almost like sleazy dad was funding their jet set lives. The companies they work were fine with them spending half the time on vacation, perhaps they were vanity/ status hires.
Edo seems like a grifter like Meghan. Who the fuck shacks up with his baby mama and romances another woman, with the baby mama having to find out of their split upon return from business trip? He just gives off skeet vibes and perhaps this is why he doesn’t mind being associated with Andrew

I think Bea is SUPER, giddy, happy, don't you? LOL.
by Anonymous | reply 486 | July 19, 2020 2:07 PM |
R476 R477 - Anne's dress is my personal favourite of all the BRF wedding dresses of her generation. I thought it absolutely marvellous, the sleeves were a triumph of innovation that combined an intensely royal look with simplicity , and Anne looked the best she ever has. The material was gorgeous, as well. Maureen Baker did a bang-up job.
I love the photo of Bea and Edo in the shadow of the tree.
This wedding was pulled together in three weeks, so I'm prepared to cut slack on dress alteration.
Between Bea's pop eyes and gummy overbite, the latter is really her worst feature. Absent those the pop eyes wouldn't be so terrible, and her hair and skin are lovely.
The sparkle of the dress goes with the tiara - perhaps putting a yoke on would have been too much detail, and it would have been inappropriate in church.
I notice it was a double-ring ceremony, which is rare amongst royals.
by Anonymous | reply 487 | July 19, 2020 2:09 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 488 | July 19, 2020 2:09 PM |
^* that is, going strappy without arm covering of some sort would have been inappropriate in church.
A yoke would also have detracted from Hartnell's geometric diamante down the front.
I think they did well enough with the organza sleeves.

R484 - In that set of photos, the Queen is wearing the Fringe Tiara on her head and another one that doubles as a necklace on her neck. That's quite a feat.

by Anonymous | reply 494 | July 19, 2020 2:18 PM |
Yes I agree it’s the combination of buggy eyes and overbite that is unfortunate. If she didn’t have the big overbite and instead had an attractive mouth then she could even be considered attractive in an atypical way. The eyes could be made to look less buggy but the overbite is the dealbreaker to any talk of beauty

Flowers and the presence of QE and Phillip made that wedding. What stood out is the fact that this is very likely the last wedding QE and Phillip would both attend. Extra poignancy for the wedding being a small affair due to Covid-19 restrictions and financial implications.

Meghan's behavior immediately before and in the days since her wedding is the real issue, R504. If she'd behaved herself impeccably once the engagement ring was on her finger, the shadiness of the BEGINNING of her relationship with Harry would have been mostly overlooked.

I think the “milkmaid” description is a lovely compliment. If you didn’t know, from these photos she looks to be in her early 20s. Long loose curls, wide-eyed, the peaches and cream completion, the puff sleeves, the trailing veil, the casual bouquet. It’s a very pretty look.
Wedding gowns are the most uncomfortable outfit a woman ever wears. Very form fitting with no give to the fabric, the fit must be impeccable and rarely is. White! So every wrinkle and stain shows, heavy with a massive train. Scrutinized by all attendees. The stuff of nightmares. Bea avoided all that, clever girl.

Cream or off-white gowns photograph better in outdoors. That’s why she looked okay. I still think the dress is not ideal because it looks too matronly particularly with hemlines. Like gotta take up the hemline cuz granny might trip on it. The sleeves offer no interesting effect it’s just there. They could’ve reworked the dress so that it is uniquely Bea’s. That’s my main issue with it.

The bouncy castle obviously was for Edo's son, so he had something to do that was fun during the reception while the adults talked with one another. there might have been other children there.
The Yorks budgeted lots of money for this wedding that they did not have to spend since it became a tiny affair, so they could afford the beautiful flower arch and the bouncy castle.

My theory about Meghan's breaking the news about her pregnancy on Eugenie's wedding day is that she's such a narcissist that seeing Eugenie get all that attention was too much for her. Even normally it would be offensive to upstage a bride on her wedding day, but for the BRF it's even a bigger deal. Princess Margaret was forbidden from announcing her engagement to Anthony Armstrong-Jones for months because the queen was pregnant with Andrew, and royal protocol required that Margaret had to wait.
It must have really annoyed all of them that Meghan couldn't wait until at least the next day to announce her pregnancy.
by Anonymous | reply 555 | July 19, 2020 5:30 PM |
I doubt though that the Sussexes were purposefully not invited to the wedding. If the Cambridges and the Wessexes and Anne's family were not invited, there's no reason why the Sussexes would have been--obviously they wanted this to be as tiny as possible so as not to tip off the press. It look like what Beatrice most wanted was to have a beautiful wedding with her grandparents, her parents, her sister and his husband, and Edo's nearest and dearest there and no one else.
by Anonymous | reply 556 | July 19, 2020 5:30 PM |
The failure to invite the Sussexes and the cloistering of Andrew from any cameras sets a marvellous precedence for the BRF to snub them in the future.

My guess for the reason Meghan shared her pregnancy at the wedding: her loose, nontraditional LA upbringing. She doesn’t have a strong sense of traditional social dos and donts. She may have thought a family gathering was the ideal place to share happy news.

This was Meghan's last chance to upstage a Royal bride, and the Firm saw to it that she went nowhere near this wedding nor had news of it beforehand.

Not everyone has an Instagram model face. She looks like a very happy version of herself, which some people are able to appreciate. (Speaking of gingers, red hair is a very nice bridal accessory—it always pops.)

R504 - Oh ffs no one is "heaping platitudes" on Edo.
And he and MM are not an equivalency - he's a minor aristo raised in England with a title however low-grade of his own that she now shares; he grew up in her social circle; he and his family have money.
He and MM both married up, but MM went much farther up from her beginnings.
Yeah, she'd have liked a wedding like her sister. I expect the Queen would have liked that, too. That doesn't mean it wasn't a lovely wedding and what Bea is happiest about is being married.
And she's not an "aging Princess" - she's only two years older than Kate was when she married William, and one year younger than Mary Donaldson was when she married Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, and five years younger than Pss. Michael of Kent's daughter when she got married last year.
The "married by 20" types like Diana didn't do too well, did they?
But she was undoubtedly thrilled to be married. It's probably the career she's best suited to - which Edo probably shrewdly recognised.

A bouncy castle should be a requirement for any wedding that includes kids. Those events suck when you are a kid. They are not much more fun as an adult, but at least there is alcohol and cake.

She's far from beautiful but I hope she's happy. Maybe the sisters can get pregnant at the same time and shove out a couple of brats next year from their semi-royal fannies.

Andrew isn't a paedophile although you haters keep insisting on using the term.
Paedophiilia refers to sex with children under 12, which no one, anywhere, has accused him of.
The complainant was 17 at the time. Age of sexual consent in New York where the "act" took place. As wearily pointed out earlier, that makes him a dirty old man, and profoundly lacking in moral values never mind common sense.
But it doesn't make him a paedophile.

R555 or it was her revenge for tiaragate. Harry warned them that Meghan doesn't get what Meghan wants.

R550 - Oh shut the fuck off. You give yourself away by adding "cunts" to pro-BRF.
Most us who approve how the BRF and Bea handled her wedding haven't said jack shit about Dara.
You and the few who did are two sides of the same coin.

r531, no that is the Queen at the State opening of Parliament in the picture with the crown on.

[quote]r295 I actually like the dress, it was better than Sparkles
Much as I pity the overly-titted fug, I think wearing a remodeled vintage dress was a good thing for be-boobied B to do at this time.
But Meghan's dress was divine. You have to have standards to appreciate its stark simplicity. She made every other BRF bride look like they were trying too hard.

Did Meg's plain dress really cost 250k?
by Anonymous | reply 576 | July 19, 2020 6:19 PM |
R575 There is no excuse for how baggy that dress was on her (not just in places like her waist, but in the arms and shoulders). And that’s not Meghan’s fault unless she insisted on that fit (but who would?), that’s poor tailoring and assistance from the dress designer. They should have been tweaking it up to and including the morning of. It’s a mystery...
I did love Meghan’s tiara

Why no images of Eugenie? They haven't even confirmed her attendance. It's really weird TBH.

I don't imagine she was charged the full price, whatever it was.
And if you find the work of Audrey Hepburn's favorite couturier "plain," well - -

As the Meghan dress-hater, I’ll also say I hated Kate Middleton’s wedding earrings (tacky) and her dress’s lace collar neckline. It’s a lot of pressure...

R578 Maybe a pregnancy announcement tomorrow with another wedding photo of the sisters?
by Anonymous | reply 582 | July 19, 2020 6:40 PM |
r558, she would by that time have certainly been instructed in royal protocols regarding big announcements. That's just part of marrying into the royal family--they sit you down and explain things like that to you so you don't make big errors.

[quote]r577 I did love Meghan’s tiara
I did, too. It had very elaborate workmanship up close, but looked gracefully simple from afar.
Everyone's gaga about that spikey icicle row the queen leant B, but as far as aesthetics go, it's kind of Frumpy-Olde-World-Russia. That style would be my LAST choice.
by Anonymous | reply 584 | July 19, 2020 6:44 PM |
Also: it's significant that Beatrice wore off-white since she and Edo had been living together for some time. You don't absolutely have to wear off-white now if you're not a virgin, but it's certainly following protocol to the letter.
Supposedly the Queen was shocked Meghan wore white for her wedding to Harry since it was her second wedding.
by Anonymous | reply 585 | July 19, 2020 6:45 PM |
Color me old fashioned, but I think a woman pushing 40 wearing the big veil/white dress when she's been married at lest once (maybe twice) is tacky.
by Anonymous | reply 586 | July 19, 2020 6:45 PM |
Calm your caftans, girls. There are many things to criticize about that yawn of a dress, but brides across the Western World wear white on their wedding day, regardless if they've been married before or live in sin.

[quote] This was Meghan's last chance to upstage a Royal bride, and the Firm saw to it that she went nowhere near this wedding nor had news of it beforehand.
As much fun as this scenario would be, I hugely doubt that there was a sinister conspiracy to keep them excluded.
Since so few people were invited, there would not have been room. I doubt they would have flown out for it even if they were invited given how bad it would look for them to be allowed international travel just for a wedding of a cousin.
by Anonymous | reply 588 | July 19, 2020 6:50 PM |
Edo's title is not a "real" title, since Italy no longer officially recognizes an aristocracy. It's just a courtesy title.

R559 I agree there was definitely that element, but I maintain there was a touch of not knowing any better, or not realizing it was a tacky thing to do. It was immature, something a teenager would do.

We've had lots of fun over the years poking fun at the York sisters and their bizarre fashion sense. I include myself. But I've also never read any stories of either of them being rude or difficult to other people. They're considered to be among the 'nicest' Royals, despite their constant vacations. So it's been pleasant to celebrate their weddings to attractive men, and wish them the best, in exchange for all the entertainment and gossip they provide.
by Anonymous | reply 592 | July 19, 2020 7:06 PM |
Do we know how much the dress cost?
by Anonymous | reply 593 | July 19, 2020 7:10 PM |
The color of the wedding dress should depend on the bride’s coloring. Very few women look good in stark white. Eugenie for example, had the right complexion, dark hair and pale, “winter”. Everyone else does better in an off-white, ivory or cream—especially redheads.
Lots of brides lose weight before the wedding, some deliberately and some because they are too busy organizing it to eat. Alterations are can be finished around two weeks to a month before the date when the gown has its final pressing, bagged with tissue paper, and taken home and hung up. However for a royal wedding, the fashion house should have sent someone to alter it on the spot. MM’s gown was classic but it looked “thick” and fitted badly in the bodice. She might have carried it off if the rest had been perfectly styled. The tiara was fine but the long veil looked silly, over done and the messy, wispy hair was terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 594 | July 19, 2020 7:15 PM |
The whole thing does have a bit of a Princess Margaret vibe to it. 32 is not old to be single, but when your little sister gets married to a man who clearly adores her, you wasted 10 years on a guy who married someone else 5 minutes after dumping you, all your cousins are married, I can understand grabbing the first available groom.
I've seen plenty of people do it. I'd rather be a spinster than a divorcee, myself.

Before Meghan, though, that was simply not the case in the royal family at all--protocol is much more important for them.
Neither Anne nor Camilla wore white for their second weddings.
by Anonymous | reply 599 | July 19, 2020 7:24 PM |
A full-length gown with trailing veil is definitely a bit eyebrow-raising for a second wedding, even now. The thought is that you get a chance at your 'princess wedding' the first time around, and after that, you are a mature woman of the world and should be beyond such fripperies. However, since Meghan's first wedding was beachside and her second was to an actual prince, I get why she wanted to go all-out. That said, the dress was badly fitted and the hair was bad. Ironically, the tiara she didn't want was the best part of the ensemble.
by Anonymous | reply 600 | July 19, 2020 7:30 PM |
R594 Meghan’s wedding day hair was such a shame, ruined the whole effect. Bothers me every time I see a picture from that day. The dress didn’t appeal to me but I see what she was going for - Caroline Bessette Kennedy minimalist whatever, and the hair was part of that “effortless chic” in her mind but it was a real swing and a miss. Or mess. I did very much like the tiara she wore though.
